Cycle Source Magazine instilled this product with the Product of The Year Award and it deserved it. This brake system revolutionized motorcycle braking forever and afforded the custom industry wheel design appearance enhancement like never before. It’s amazing, but now it’s up to you and builders world wide to install and test them out for the long run. Here’s how the installation goes:

Brake1
I believe this is a Johnny Pag jack, if you’re looking for one.

For safe installation us a proper jack stand and secure motorcycle with safety straps prior to removing wheel.

Brake2

Brake3

1.Remove axle. NOTE: It may be necessary to loosen securing bolts on bottom of forks before removing axle. Remove axle and spacer and save.

Brake4

2.Loosen brake line securing bolt to standard brake caliper assembly.

Brake5

3.Using a shop cloth to catch any leaking brake fluid, remove brake line securing bolt from original caliper

4. Install temporary plug in original caliper.

Brake7

5. Remove original caliper by removing mounting bolts.

6. Mounting holes for the original caliper will serve as the bolt holes for the 360 BRAKE ANTI ROTATION ARM (210-11-4XX). This part will have to match the make and model of the motorcycle.

Brake9

7. Remove the bolts securing the original brake rotor then remove the rotor.

Brake10

8. Remove original hub center bolts. Bolts may have been secured with Loctite and may need heat to loosen. Use only a heat gun. DO NOT USE A TORCH AS THIS MAY DAMAGE FINISH.

Brake11

9. Remove wheel from lower part of hub.

Brake11

10. If original hub is a one piece unit it will need to be parted. The most accurate method is to use a lathe. Call Baldwin Wilson Tech Support for information on specific models of hubs and motorcycles.

Brake13

11. This is what remains after machining the one piece hub. With two piece hubs only the brake side will be machined.

Brake15

12. Place wheel over lower part of new hub. Align bolt holes.

13. Install rotor HAT spacer if required. Check with Baldwin Wilson Tech Support for assistance.

Brake18

14. Install BEARING SPACER. The length of this spacer will vary for each model. If you are not familiar with measuring for a crush tube, check with Baldwin Wilson Tech Support for the proper method.

Brake20

15. Place ROTOR HAT (210-11-0XX) on rotor HAT spacer and align holes.

16. At this time measure the thread protruding through the wheel and match it to the original length.

Brake21

17. Apply Red Loctite (271) to SOCKET HEAD CAP SCREWS and insert screws in holes with head recesses. (Thread holes are for opposite side installations).

18. Using index finger check for play in bearing spacer. None should be found with bearings flush with surface.

19. Torque in a cross pattern to dry (no oil under head). Refer to torque chart on page 8 for correct torque.

Brake23

20. Install ANTI-ROTATION ARM (210-11-4XX) using Blue Loctite (242) on the screws. NOTE: This part will vary according to make and model of motorcycle.

21. Tighten screws securely. Avoid over tightening by using a small wrench.

Brake24

22. Temporarily install caliper assembly on for to establish location of AN -3, 1/8 NPT FITTING (210-21-651). One of 2 locations may be selected.

Brake25

23. Remove all plastic plugs from ports and discard. Use Teflon tape on threads of plug to seal it.

Brake26

Plug the unused port and cap off the unused bleeder port with a buttonhead screw and sealing washer.

Brake27

24. Install fittings before attaching assembly to motorcycle.

25. Install BRAKE BLEEDER (210-21-652). DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

Brake29

26. Temporarily mount wheel in position and check distance for axle spacer between bushing and for.

Brake28

Brake30

27. Dismount wheel and install bushing with proper spacer as shown above.

Brake31

Brake32

28. Reinstall axle and spacer as shown above.

29. With brake and spacer installed, install axle nut but do not tighten at this time.

Brake33

30. Using a spacer of the proper length secure the ANTI-ROTATION ARM (210-11-4XX) to the caliper mounting brackets.

Brake34

31. Tighten securely using a small wrench and Loctite 242 (blue). Tighten axle nut at this time.

Brake35

32. Attach brake line fitting at this time. NOTE: Brake line must be equipped with a AN-3 end as shown.

Brake36

33. Tighten brake line to fitting using two open end wrenches as shown.

Brake37

34. Fill brake reservoir to proper amount.

Brake38

35. Open BLEEDER using spill bottle as shown.

Brake39

36. Pump Brake handle to distribute DOT 5.1 brake fluid through out system.

37. When fluid flows from bleeder, close bleeder. With bleeder totally vertical, bleed as you would any hydraulic brake system.

We made sure the Bikernet.com Historic Society investigated the 360-Degree Brake for originality.

You can see for yourself. Back in ’49 Cushmans didn’t have hub brakes.
