IS IT STURGIS YET THURSDAY NEWS – AUGUST 2, 2012

Hey,

This is a strange day. Half the Biker Nation is on the road to the Badlands. The other half is struggling to stay financially afloat during these tough times. It’s so tough folks ignore terrific opportunities. They dodge the big score, while grappling to keep the lights on. Good god.

The government wants to regulate every thing we do, but can’t control their own bureaucracies. Hang on. Brothers and sisters are still innovative. There must be a way. Hell, this weekend will be nuts with the hunt for a Bonneville trailer, fixing my Snap-on tool drawer, dealing with the sheet metal paint work for the Bonne Belle. The 45 engine is on its way to Sturgis with the Departure Bike Works crew.

Then we’re scheduled for a TV show writers’ meeting to prepare a pitch for a new series. And Andy, from Crank and Stroker is coming to the Bikernet Headquarters for a meeting about a line of t-shirts. Holy smokes. Plus, I’m on my deadline for the sixth episode of the Bikernet/Cycle Source Sweeps build article. You could win this bike.

Let’s hit the news:

GUN CONTROL MISFIRES– A Tale of Four Cities.
Gun control is on every liberal’s lips thanks to the shootings in Aurora, Colo., by an insane gunman wielding an AR-15 rifle, shotgun and a pistol. New York Mayor and Soda Nazi Michael Bloomberg has urged police officers to go on strike until all privately held handguns are turned in, which sounds like an exceptionally good idea in New York, which has been experiencing a summer rash of shootings.

I’m sure the criminals could use the stress reduction, and residents will feel much safer knowing they won’t have to worry about shooting themselves in the foot while waiting for the police to come deal with a robber in the living room.

Gun control doesn’t work for a lot of reasons that are clear to anybody who is susceptible to logic.

Rather than confuse liberals by resorting to common sense, maybe just examining the cases of four different cities will help clarify things.

First, there’s Anaheim, Calif., home of Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Medieval Times and a whole slew of other family-oriented destinations.

During the past week, residents of Anaheim have been rioting and protesting following the fatal police shootings of two men. They were probably criminals and probably brought it on themselves by doing stupid things like being in gangs and shooting at police.

But apparently at street level it doesn’t look that way. Residents have been slinging phrases like “cop murder” or “assassination.” Accusations of opening fire on crowds and siccing police dogs on children are flying “fast and furious.”

This is in California, a state that is just chock full of gun control laws. There are a lot of factors involved (like illegal immigration — thanks, King Obama), but two points can be gleaned from this series of events: Gun control didn’t stop at least one known gang member from obtaining a weapon to fire at police (wonder if it came from Eric Holder?); and the residents of Anaheim will not (and possibly should not) ever trust the police to protect them.

Second case to consider: Chicago. Run by the liberal machine under Obama henchman Rahm Emanuel, the town of Chicago has been turned into a shooting gallery.

With gun control laws up the wazoo, Chicago has seen multiple shootings on many days this year, including even when Obama was visiting.

Despite being “outraged” and cooking up various strategies, Emanuel and the Chicago police haven’t been able to stop the bleeding. Just this past Tuesday, six people were shot in the space of an hour. There have been weekends where three dozen or more have been wounded.

Back to California. The city of Simi Valley, which isn’t that far from Anaheim, is consistently ranked as one of the safest large cities in America.

Being in California, the residents of Simi Valley are subject to the exact same state gun control laws as the residents of Anaheim, BUT … the city is known locally to be home to an abnormally large number of resident police officers from a number of local communities.

It’s not the magical badges that keep crime under control. It’s the fact that those off-duty police officer homeowners, along with a lot of non-police residents of the town, are believed by criminals to keep guns in their homes and not be afraid to use them.

Then there’s the case of Kennesaw, Georgia, a city with about one fourth the population of Simi Valley and selected by Family Circle as one of America’s 10 Best Towns for Families. Back in 1982, Kennesaw did the opposite of what most cities do. Not only did it not outlaw or restrict guns, but it passed a law requiring that every head of household in town own a handgun, with exceptions for criminal record, religious objection, handicap, etc.

Contrary to predictions, the town did not see a rise in violence. Crime plunged and has stayed low ever since.

It’s intuitive and obvious. When people are allowed to own guns to defend themselves, crime is low because criminals for some reason don’t like to be shot.

Even “gangster” rapper Ice T gets it. In an interview on the day of the Colorado shootings, he defended the right to own a gun, pointing out that it’s for self-defense, including if necessary, the last line of defense against an out-of-control government.

Liberals operate from fear, and they’ve got an entire routine about people supposedly shooting family members and not being able to stop criminals, ad infinitum.

But people who want to take away your rights under the pretense of safety and security are really just laying the groundwork for tyranny.

In the end, the only form of gun control that works is taking aim before pulling the trigger.

BIKERNET INVESTIGATES RUNNING OUT OF VIRGINS– Muslim suicide bombers in Britain are set to begin a three-day strike next Monday in a dispute over the number of virgins they are entitled to in the afterlife.

Emergency talks with Al Qaeda have so far failed to produce an agreement. The unrest began last Tuesday when Al Qaeda announced that the number of virgins a suicide bomber would receive after his death will be cut by 25% this April from 72 to only 60. The rationale for the cut was the increase in recent years of the number of suicide bombings and a subsequent shortage of virgins in the afterlife.

The suicide bombers’ union, the British Organization of Occupational Martyrs (or B.O.O.M.) responded with a statement that this was unacceptable to its members and immediately balloted for strike action. General Secretary Abdullah Amir told the press, “Our members are literally working themselves to death in the cause of Jihad. We don’t ask for much in return but to be treated like this is like a kick in the teeth.”

Speaking from his shed in Tipton in the West Midlands in which he currently resides, an Al Qaeda chief executive explained,  “We sympathize with our workers’ concerns but Al Qaeda is simply not in a position to meet their demands. They are simply not accepting the realities of modern-day Jihad in a competitive marketplace.

Thanks to Western depravity, there is now a chronic shortage of virgins in the afterlife. It’s a straight choice between reducing expenditure and laying people off. I don’t like cutting wages but I’d hate to have to tell 3000 of my staff that they won’t be able to blow themselves up.”

Spokespersons for the union in Newcastle , Middlesbrough, Essex, Glasgow, the U.S. and Australia stated that they would be unaffected as there are no virgins in these areas anyway.

STUNT RIDER ROCKS THE SMOKE OUT– Chris Conroy of All American Stunters brought out his custom fabricated Nightster stunt bike to Smoke Out 13. Chris enjoyed the Smoke Out because of the diversity of the bikes at the event from stock baggers to low and stretched inline-four choppers.

He took his stock Nightster and over several knuckle-busting nights transformed it into a stunt bike, which features a steel lip on gas tank to sit on the tank for sitting on during wheelies, hand-fabed skid plate, engine cage and chain conversion.

Chris has been stunting for over 11 years. His featured tricks include tandem circles, handstand burn outs, high chair wheelies, circle and spreader wheelies, drifting and burnouts. His signature trick is a front head-first flip off the bike to end the show.

When asked about it he stated: “I thought about it, tried it and kept slamming my ass on the front tire. After a while, I got it right and it is a perfect way to end the show.”

Chris was hired for the Smoke Out but found that he enjoyed the hanging out at the famed Rockingham drag strip. Anyone on a bike can go mano-a-mano with anyone else. Chris brought out his sled and did a wheelie all the way down the track until the engine hit the rev limiter in 5th gear.

Needless to say, the crowd enjoyed his ability on the track just as much as during the stunt show.

Accident Victim Received $31.5 MILLION in Lawsuit Against State of CALIFORNIA–  Advanced Following one of several serious injury motorcycle accidents occurring on California State Route 138, a jury recently awarded one victim $31.5 million in a verdict against California’s state agency responsible for rail, bridge, and highway transportation construction, planning, and maintenance (Caltrans).

Case number CIVVS1002497, Superior Court of the State of California for the county of San Bernardino

Following one of several serious injury motorcycle accidents occurring on California State Route 138, a jury recently awarded one victim $31.5 million in a verdict against California’s state agency responsible for rail, bridge, and highway transportation construction, planning, and maintenance (Caltrans).

Caltrans was held responsible for what was determined to be a dangerous roadway condition. On April 29, 2009, David Evans was riding his motorcycle when he collided with an oncoming vehicle. The collision left Mr. Evans with severe spinal cord and brain injuries that will require around-the-clock nursing assistance for the remainder of his life.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) documents showed that ten previous accidents had occurred at this location. The handling attorneys were able to convince the jury that Caltrans failed to provide sufficient protection for their client in an area that had been flagged for being especially dangerous.
According to the 2009 California Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 232,777 people were injured and 3,076 suffered fatal injuries in California auto collisions. Of those injured, 13,083 were pedestrians, 12,043 were bicyclists, and 10,479 were traveling on motorcycles.

Brian Chase, California motorcycle attorney and lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, has assisted dozens victims of motorcycle accident and dangerous roadway conditions. “Too often, California’s transportation agencies are made aware of dangerous roadway conditions and fail to quickly address the issue. In Mr. Evans’ case, Caltrans’ Chief of Operations had received a complaint eighteen months prior to his Evans’ collision. Had this complaint, or the several motor vehicle accidents which took place in the area, been treated with the respect that they deserved, the roadway could have been modified to help prevent Mr. Evans’ collision.

“When Caltrans, or any other governmental agency, contributes to a dangerous condition, they put themselves in a position to be held liable. Luckily, Mr. Evans received a generous verdict which will allow him to receive the care he so desperately needs.” Said Mr. Chase.

BROTHER BUYS A HOT ROD–  I finally got a chance to take some shots of this ‘52 Chevy that I picked up in May. There have been many owners over the years…I think it was originally hot-rodded in the late ‘60s or early ‘70s. Motor is a 275-hp 327 built in Nov. of ‘66. Muncie 4-speed, Tri-5 rear with 4:11. Seats are black leather big buckets from ‘60s GM car. Pinstriping on dash was done quite some time ago.

Lots I could do with this…I’ve never owned a car of this vintage. Steering wheel is too small…I found a ‘52 wheel at a swap meet last week. Family digs the huge back seat.

Plainfield woman celebrates turning 90 with spin on Harley–  Mary McShane shows off a pair of flamingo glasses as she gets ready to ride a Harley at her 90th birthday party in Plainfield. McShane’s birthday wish was to ride a Harley.

By ADAM BENSON The Bulletin

“I’ve been reading about all these people doing stupid things when they turn 90, so I said, ‘why not?’ ” McShane said shortly before she donned a pink-and-black leather jacket and matching helmet Saturday to take a ride on a cherry red Harley-Davidson driven by family friend Paul Chenail.

It was her second time on a motorcycle. Her first was nearly 70 years ago, when a friend zipped her across the Gold Star Memorial Bridge during a time when she worked as a cook in Groton.

“I had a ride once, back in 1943. I decided it was time for a second one,” McShane said. “You don’t forget something like that. It’s only the important things you tend not to remember.”

Saturday’s short ride was the culmination of a wish McShane expressed on her 80th birthday, when she told loved ones she’d ring in 90 from the leather seat of a hog.

Of course, for a woman whose life was built on free-spirited spontaneity (like the time she honed her archery skills by practicing in the attic of a building on the University of Connecticut campus), wanting to jump on a motorcyle didn’t come as much of a surprise for McShane’s family.
‘A lot more to come’

“She’s had a long, healthy, wonderful life, and she has a lot more to come,” her brother-in-law, Dennison Allen, of Sprague, said during McShane’s birthday party on Saturday.
Born on a family farm in Ledyard in 1922, McShane never quite kicked her country girl roots, developing a love for square dancing, 4-H activities and down-home logic that defined her life. She attended Norwich Free Academy and UConn in 1938, majoring in home economics and then business.

During her freshman year of college, McShane won a cow-milking contest, and she’d go on to meet her future husband at an outdoor square-dancing hoedown at the school.

Her first job was with General Electric in Bridgeport. Then she joined the U.S. Navy’s WAVES division during World War II and was stationed at a hotel in the heart of Manhattan. She also worked as a teacher at Ledyard Center School, teaching grades one through eight.
McShane’s daughter, Patricia McShane Stephen, said her mother remains firmly entrenched in the social circles of Plainfield.

“Her social life is better than mine. If I go into a store, they’re mad it’s me and not my mother,” Stephen said.

As her daughter watched the motorcycle carrying McShane pull onto Norwich Road, she said that her mother is already planning her next exploit.
“Her next adventure is a helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon when she’s 91,” Stephen said.

http://www.bikernettrikes.com/pages/Long_Beach_Secret_Triangle_of_Culinary_Delight.aspx

NEW FROM THE BIKERNET ELEMENTRY SCHOOL–The 6th grade science teacher, Mrs. Parks asked her class, “Which human body part increases to ten times its size when stimulated?”

No one answered until little Mary stood up and said, “you should not be asking sixth graders a question like that. I’m going to tell my parents and they will go tell the principal who will fire you.”

Mrs. Parks ignored her and asked the question again. “Which body part increases to 10 times its size when stimulated?”

Little Mary’s mouth fell open. Then she said to those around her, “Boy is she going to be in big trouble.”

The teacher continued to ignore her and said to the class, “Anybody?”

Finally Billy stood up, looked around nervously and said, “The body part that increases 10 times its size when stimulated is the pupil of the eye.”

Mrs. Parks said, “Very good Billy” then turned to Mary and continued. “As for you young lady, I have three things to say. One, you have a dirty mind. Two, you didn’t read your homework. And three, one day you are going to be very, very disappointed.”

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY SUMMER SCHOOL VOCABULARY CLASS– incondite in-KON-dit, adjective:
Ill-constructed; unpolished: incondite prose.?2. Crude; rough; unmannerly.

He is no such honest chronicler as R.N., and would have done better perhaps to have consulted that gentleman, before he sent these incondite reminiscences to press.
–Charles Lamb, Charles Lamb: Selected Writings

I wish I might digress and tell you more of the pavor nocturnus that would rack me at night hideously after a chance term had struck me in the random readings of my boyhood, such as peine forte et dure (what a Genius of Pain must have invented that!), or the dreadful, mysterious, insidious words “trauma,” “traumatic event,” and “transom.” But my tale is sufficiently incondite already.
–Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita

To me, the Venetians whom I have met, seem to be merely inadequate, incondite, banausic , and perfectly complacent about it.
–Frederick Rolfe, The Armed Hands

Incondite stems from the Latin root condere meaning “to put in, restore.” The prefix in- also corresponds to the prefix un-, as in the word indefensible.

Rock Artist JASMINE CAIN Will Release Her First “Unplugged” Album at the 72nd Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally!–  Nashville, TN—July 18, 2012: As the earth makes its annual trip around the sun, Jasmine Cain, Sturgis’s prodigal daughter makes her annual trip back home to the Black Hills to rock the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Deemed the Rock Queen of Sturgis, Jasmine is one of the only annual performers who was actually born and raised in Strugis. Jasmine grew up in a small town of Opal, SD on a family cattle ranch. Beginning her professional music career at age 6, she gradually moved from riding horses to riding Harleys.

Once a year she returns to the soil where she took her first steps, her first rides, and played her first notes. “It’s always so great to come home to friends, family, and familiar faces that I haven’t seen in a while. And with Sturgis Motorcycle Rally being the ultimate family reunion, I never step onstage in front of a stranger.” says Jasmine.

Despite Jasmine Cain being a well-known mainstay of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Jasmine brings new excitement with her to Rally every year. After debuting her third critically-acclaimed album, Highway Prophet, in Sturgis last year, Jasmine will release her fourth album to her Sturgis fans and family at this year’s Rally.

This fourth album, entitled Modern Day Gypsy, is Jasmine’s first all-acoustic album. With an “MTV Unplugged” vibe, the album features several new Jasmine Cain songs, acoustic arrangements of hits from her three prior releases, and a live recording of Jasmine performing her fan-favorite and show-closer, Janis Joplin’s Bobby McGee.

To accompany her new record, Jasmine brings a new apparel line to the Rally, with new designs that will set her fans apart. Never before available, Jasmine’s loyal Sturgis followers will be the first to have access to Jasmine’s hottest merchandise ever.

Finally, in addition to Jasmine’s traditional performance venues—The Broken Spoke Saloon Campground and the original Broken Spoke Saloon (now known as Sickies Garage)—Jasmine will be tearing the roof off the Sturgis Saloon Company and the Glencoe Campground.

“New venues give us a chance to reach new fans and make new friends. And, with new music and a new record to spread across the Black Hills, this year’s Rally will be one to remember! I’m super excited and can’t wait to get there.” says Jasmine.

Jasmine is the two-time and reigning holder of the award for Nashville’s Best Female Rock Vocalist. The Just Plain Folks Music Organization, which rates and critiques independent musicians worldwide, has given Jasmine more awards than any of its other competing artists and has honored her with the title of Female Artist of the Year.

Jasmine Cain’s shows are stadium-quality performances, high in energy, and wildly entertaining. The band is a cast of musical characters offering a tight performance and with an intensity rarely seen even among national acts. Look for Jasmine’s new album “Modern Day Gypsy” available only in Sturgis!!

For Information on the new album, Modern Day Gypsy, please visit us at www.jasminecain.com or www.jasminecain.net. To purchase Jasmine Cain albums, go to www.cdbaby.com. For digital downloads, go to iTunes or Rhapsody.

UNCLE MONKEY ON BUSTING KNUCKLES–  There is a personal satisfaction from putting in a hard days work. Our muscles ache, the whelming sense of fatigue. We collapse onto the sofa with a cold drink and don’t plan on moving anymore. The tank is empty. We look at our accomplishment, a work of art, something created with our fingerprint on it, something that we can say we created with our two hands.

Hard work comes in many forms. Physical labor from rolling up our sleeves and moving mountains. For others it is more artistic pouring our heart and soul out onto a canvas or pulling inspiration, knowledge, and talent together to create that top forty hit. In offices there is problem solving and number crunching, multi-billion dollar deals pivoting on your input, your knowledge, on you and you alone. We see the end product. We relish in it. Hard work. It is what our nation has been built on, needs to be continuously built on. Everything everywhere needs hard work at one time or another.

Sadly there are those out there that don’t believe in hard work. People who think barely doing the minimum is sufficient. They complain that they have no money, that they can’t make ends meet. They live beyond their means with the blind assumption that dollars per hour is the only cause of a large paycheck. Jobs are half finished, over budget, over dead lines.

Personally, when I face ten hours of work and only eight hours to get it done, I buckle down, rolling up my sleeves and get to work where they spend two hours complaining that there isn’t enough time. No there isn’t, but there might be and if there isn’t I work until it is finished. It means overtime; it means skipping coffee and smoke breaks. The job gets finished and out the door. A satisfied customer, a personal satisfaction that I’ve done everything, given 100%. The boss notices, the customer notices.

So next time the deck is stacked against you, relish in the satisfaction of putting in a hard days work.

CUSTOM MOTORCYCLE OF THE CENTURY DISCOVERED–I recently came across this photo and tried to find some info about it. I’ve come up empty.
I was told that it was possibly built in the ‘40s or ‘50s. Great lines for the period, if true.
Would you have any info on it?

We actually featured this amazing custom in the Cantina. It was customized in the ‘30s. http://www.bikernet.com/pages/1930_Henderson_Streamliner_Custom_Motorcycle_of_the_Century.aspx

DR. HAMSTER REVIEWS THE MUDFLAP GIRL FXR–The FXR Chopper is one great looking scooter, with just the right stance to have attitude, without being obnoxious. Everyone twists their neck when she goes by.

She is going down the street like a steam locomotive, no wobbles or trailing off and runs great at slow speeds or out on the Highway?

Here’s the story about the first Road Test into the Mojave desert: http://www.bikernet.com/pages/Mudflap_Girl_FXRs_part_11_The_First_Road_Test.aspx

Coming back into LA after being out on the road for a couple of days was just a reminder how compacted our life is here in the metropolis. Tons of Cars, erratic drivers, the smell combined with the humidity- it all let me know too fast that we were home.
I was glad the Bagger and me made it in one piece- “Bessie” was my reliable ride one more time and brought me back safe and sound.

VELOCITY CHANNEL SHOOTS AT WHEELS THROUGH TIME–  This past Tuesday, July 31, Velocity Channel star Wayne Carini, from the hit television show “Chasing Classic Cars”, and his production crew spent two full days filming for an upcoming segment at Wheels Through Time.

Now in its fifth season, the show gives the viewer instant membership to the exclusive club of elite car restorers and millionaire collectors, following Carini on his personal mission to uncover, restore, and sell some of the world’s rarest collector cars.
The recently filmed segment could be considered a “follow-up” to one of the largest and most significant automotive auctions to take place in the last few decades — the famed Lee Hartung Estate Auction — a November 2012 sale featuring nearly 100 rare collector cars and over two dozen extremely rare motorcycles dating back to even before the 1910s.

At the Auction, the Chasing Classic Cars crew was on hand catching many of the memorable moments and gathering commentary from countless collectors. Both Carini and Wheels Through Time Museum Curator, Dale Walksler were on hand early to identify and prepare several of the machines for the auction, gaining a rare insiders look at what made the Hartung Estate so special. During the airing of the episode, we also learned that each of the two collectors managed to take home a few rare pieces — machines so rare, they warranted a special “follow-up” episode highlighting the unique history associated with each.

Tuesday’s filming marked the first time Carini had visited the musuem, and after parusing the isles of history inside the 38,000 square foot facility, he remarked that he’d need much more than a few days to absorb a collection of such magnitude. It was also the first time Wayne had seen his token purchase from the Hartung Estate Auction — a 1912 Thor motorcycle, equipped with a sidecar and resting in its original condition –, which Walksler offered to bring back to perfect running order.

During the filming, the two also highlight one of the newest additions to Wheels Through Time — a 1949 Veritas, powered by a BMW 328″ Racing engine and bodied by the famous Spohn Body Company of Germany. Both machines are currently on display at Wheels Through Time.
Keep an eye out for the episode on Velocity Channel in the coming months. It’ll be one that you don’t want to miss.

For more information, visit www.WheelsThroughTime.com or call the museum at (828) 926-6266.

BIKERNET ROVING REPORT, NEWS SPECIAL REPORTS WRITER AND TECH SPECIALISST RIDES TO THE BADLANDS–Since Beat-On and I decided to ride state and secondary roads to Sturgis this year, we have seen a good part of the country including a lot of corn fields and animals.
Not stuff I figure will go over big on Bikernet, BUT Every Day there is something.

After a long Hot Day we stopped at the Cobblestone Inn in Bloomfield Iowa. After checking in and having a adult beverage he goes out to the bike for something, when he walks back into the bar and says “Did You See The Big Penis Outside?”

My answer was No and I do not care about any penis other than mine, he keeps it up until he convinces both the barmaid and I to go outside.

Well here is what we saw – You decide. I am still trying to figure out if it was the long hours out in the 105 weather or if it just cause he is from New Jersey.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER ROAD TRIP HEALTH ALERT SPONSORED BY 2WHEELERS IN STURGIS ON MAIN–Four Unhealthy Snacks:
If you want to eat better, it’s not difficult – adding fresh, whole fruits and vegetables is a good start, as is following my Anti-Inflammatory Diet suggestions. When it comes to snacking, avoid these four nutritional black holes:

1.Doughnuts. High in sugar, trans fats, calories and refined flour, doughnuts are not only bad for your waistline, but bad for your energy levels as well. The high sugar content is likely to end in a midday crash. If you crave a doughnut, try a piece of whole-grain bread with some jam and nut butter instead.

2.Soft Drinks. There just isn’t anything nutritious about soda, whether it’s diet or regular. Instead of a soda, try some sparkling water with a bit of fruit juice – you’ll get the carbonation without all the empty calories.

3.French Fries. Actually anything fried – from chicken to potatoes to onions to cheese – should be avoided. Deep-fried foods contain altered fats that are detrimental to the body. If you want finger foods, opt for carrot and celery sticks with a tasty dip.

4.Instant Soup. Very high in sodium, instant soup generally offers little health benefit in proportion to its sodium count. Total daily intake of sodium should not exceed 2,300 mg (individuals with hypertension, of African-American descent, and middle-aged and older adults should limit intake to 1,500 mg of sodium per day) and one serving of instant soup contains around 500 mg; some kinds of Ramen-style soup are even worse, offering up to 800 mg. A better option is low-sodium vegetable broth with whole wheat- and buckwheat-based noodles such as Japanese soba or udon.

Capone Racing, Team HeadBlade, and Bammer Racing-Bristol Bound–
Frank Capone maintains the points leads in the AHDRA Pro Mod Class. Teammate, Shaun Reno of Team Headblade has moved into 5th place after a snappy quick runner up to Capone at Norwalk.
Bammer Racing’s Screamin’ Eagle Top Fueler with Drums Brancaccio riding the infamous DJ Johnson’s Top Fueler will also be at the AHDRA’s Bristol, TN for the AHDRA to Bristol Dragway, August 3rd and 4th for the AHDRA Thunder in the Valley Nationals Presented by 95.9 The Hog and 93.9 FM94. How’s that sound race fans? Nitro, a fast 1/4 mile track and MUSIC, you’d better not miss this one.

Capone Racing with an extra bike in tow this Friday and Sat (odd days, we know) his very special and “somewhat” radical Rush Pro Gas bike is ready for some test and tune. “Why not,” Capone said when asked about hauling an unproven ride, “it won’t cost any more fuel to get it there and it’ll be a good show and I’m READY to ride it. It seems like a long time since Norwalk. I’m ready to get on the Pro Gas ride and try out the new Rush Pro Gasser.”

Shaun and Kim Reno’s Team HeadBlade, Inc. Pro Mod are looking for points along with crew chief, Ricky Stewart. “We have a great new sponsor on board with CP Pistons. With Snake’s help, we’re really excited about this new addition to our teams.”

Larry “Drums” Brancaccio is leaving his nitro Bammer Bike at home this weekend to ride with DJ Johnson’s American Cycle Top Fuel powerhouse. But Drums hasn’t been sitting around, he’s been trying some new parts and getting ready for Rockingham. Keep in mind, the points are his, regardless of the machine he’s riding.

Also Drums and crew chief Michael Hopkins brought Bammer a little more notarity after displaying for 2 days at an Orion Concert in Atlantic City NJ. He was requested by Metallica’s base player, Robert Trujillo. Needless to say a LARGE time was had by all.
Team info:

Capone’s team consists of Mark Godin, Richard Murray, Craig Fisher, Lorne Buchanan and Katy Miller.

SCHNITZ RACING LOW-PROFILE RADIATOR FAN–Cool Relief for Hot Motors.
DECATUR, Ind. (August 1, 2012) — Schnitz Racing’s Low-Profile Radiator Fan helps keep everything from hot-running stock motors to heavy-breathing hot rods cool in sizzling summer traffic or in the heat of drag-strip competition.

Packing 10 curved blades in a 7.5 in. wingspan, the fan blows up to 1100 cubic feet per minute, propelling more air than most stock fans. The injection-molded plastic blades are reversible to adjust flow. With a profile only 2.5 in. thick, it is 8.25 in. wide and weighs just 1.8 lbs. The Schnitz blower can be used as a bike’s primary cooling unit, mounted in tight confines beside its stock fan as a secondary fan that doubles the breeze, or attached to a custom radiator.

Engineered for universal fitment to most motorcycle radiators, the kit comes with brackets, lock collars and insulation that secures the fan directly to radiators via four mounting holes spaced 6 in. apart.

The Schnitz fan works with 12- to 15- volt power supplies, draws just 3 amps and can be configured to spin up automatically by thermostat or switched on manually to provide constant airflow in stop-and-go traffic or the burnout box.

In a world where efficient cooling is directly proportional to consistent horsepower output and long engine life, Schnitz’s small, lightweight fan helps avoid engine damage from overheating during low-airflow operation and increase fuel mileage.

Schnitz Racing distributes 20,000 parts and accessories for streetbikes and drag-racing machines from more than 50 leading manufacturers. The company stands behind every item with superior customer service and a technical support team led by former Kawasaki factory rider Ryan Schnitz, a championship-winning and record-breaking AMA Prostar racer and NHRA competitor.

KNOLL PLEADS GUILTY, COULD BE SENTENCED TO DECADES IN PRISON– Evan Knoll, former owner of Torco Racing Fuels in Decatur, Mich., pleaded guilty Wednesday (July 25) afternoon in a $100 million fraud.  Knoll pleaded guilty to eight charges of making false claims against the government, and one count of bank fraud. IRS Special Agent Erick Martinez says Knoll could owe 100-million dollars in restitution alone.

They have already seized luxurious homes, dozens of cars, motorcycles and trucks and even a Lear Jet, purchased with taxpayer money. Whether he can repay any of the money is unknown.

Knoll discovered that by selling racing fuel, he could get a refund from the government of 18.3 cents a gallon in excise taxes because the fuel was being used off-road. He started claiming he was selling millions of gallons of Torco racing fuels which never existed, just for the refund. He says it just “snowballed” on him.

Over the course of years, Knoll received $87 million for fictitious claims. He also used those claims as collateral for a $15 million loan through two banks. The banks have already received $2 million from the sale of a waterfront home in Gaylord, Mich., and another under construction in Decatur.

On Wednesday Knoll, standing before U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker in Grand Rapids, said he devised the plan himself – fooling his employees and accountants, banks and the government. He started small but it became “like a growing mushroom. I take full responsibility. … I just want to say I’m sorry.”

Knoll is free on bond He could get up to 70 years in prison when he is sentenced on November 20th.

CRAZY KRYLON JOHN HEADS OUT–  From August 3-13: Not that I expect trouble, but as my friends I’m entrusting you to contact the media to help bring public awareness to facilitate negotiating my release from a minor municipality’s jail should my luck turn bad.

For example Monday, August 6, I’ll be driving through the entire state of Georgia… Nothing ever goes wrong there right?

Please monitor my blog at www.streetrodderweb.com to keep abreast of the latest news… There’s some up there now.

I’ll be unreachable by email, I’m only bringing a cell phone (714) 421-5685, and 2.2-pounds of Metamucil for good luck.

I’m flying out at 6:45am from Orange County, Califa, to Atlanta, to Jacksonville. Up through Georgia to Coker tire in Chattanooga, Speedway in Lincoln, NE. to Lake Tahoe and then home. I had to borrow money to be able to do it. I hope its not too loud, but then that’ll keep my mind off steel floors, no A/C, and lots of rattles. My girlfriend said maybe this trip will get it out of my system. I’m thinking for my next trip a chopped ’33 coupe with ice-cold A/C.

OKAY—So, we’re flying into another harried weekend. I’m hoping to deliver  several features to our readers, including the lastest Sportster custom from Spitfire, with photos from Markus Cuff. I’m already working on an AFT metric feature from Jim Gufra, who is one of the coolest, most innovative builders in the world, and he is surrounded by beautiful mechanics. I wish I knew his secret.

The AFT feature, shot by Peter Linney, also contains photographs of the lovely assistants by Jerry Southworth. Ben is working on another feature with the team at LowBrow. Plus, I will bring you some teaser shots on the Bonne Belle paint as I pick it up and deliver it to George, the Wild Brush, for the detail work. I’m so far up against it, time-wise, I can’t get my hands around the paint job scheme. Just get it done. A memorial for our painter, Jim Murrillo, who died last week is coming up.

I’m now working with Chris Morrison, who handles lots of local dealer paint jobs. He’s hard working and has worked with George for a couple of decades. His shop is next door to Settle’s Custom Motorcycles in Harbor City.

I better stop, before I think of another project. Oh shit. A surprise visit might rock my world this weekend. I need to find that trailer.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
