TAKE-A-BREAK THURSDAY NEWS FOR MAY 2, 2013

Hey,

Life is nuts, as we know. Have I asked this question? Is life all about money and safety? Think about it. Say you are forced through regulations to protect yourself, like wear helmets, register this, go there, and don’t go there. Is the torture from all the requirements, plus the wasted time and money worth the added time on the planet. Or would you like to be free and take your chances, but have a blast in the process.

This is just another question we will ask in our quest to honor freedom and study these issues through a government grant. In the meantime, let’s hit the news, cause it’s packed with action.

Marilyn Stemp, the esteemed editor of IronWork flew in from the east to make the run to Paso Robles with Ted Sands and a pack of Hamsters.

As soon as she returned on Sunday, Ray C. Wheeler, the Bikernet Performance editor whisked her to Illusions Cycle for their Grand Opening and K.O.’s birthday party.

The Bikernet News is sponsored in part by IronWorks magazine.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT VOCABULARY LESSON–aleatory EY-lee-uh-tawr-ee, -tohr-ee, AL-ee-, adjective:

1. of or pertaining to accidental causes; of luck or chance; unpredictable: an aleatory element.
2. Law. depending on a contingent event: an aleatory contract.
3. Music. employing the element of chance in the choice of tones, rests, durations, rhythms, dynamics, etc.

…it was not a matter of reduction at all, but—perversely—of expansion, the aleatory flutter of uncontrolled, metastatic growth…

— David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest, 1996

[Man] is supposed to love happiness; it is my contention that he rather loves excitement. Danger, enterprise, hope, the novel, the aleatory, are dearer to man than regular meals.

— Robert Louis Stevenson, The Day After To-morrow, 1866

Hailing from the Latin word meaning “the dice” or “chance” alea, aleatory first surfaced in English in the late seventeenth century.

OBAMA TAPS CHARLOTTE MAYOR FOR TOP DOT —The Motorcycle Riders Foundation reports that today, President Obama has nominated Anthony Foxx for Secretary of Transportation.
Foxx is the Mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a former member of the Charlotte City Council as well as a lawyer.

Foxx is a relative new comer to politics, winning his first election to city council in 2005 and became the youngest Mayor of Charlotte when he was elected in 2009.

Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Relations for the MRF states, “He has not said anything about his priorities as he leads the Department of Transportation (DOT) or what he will focus on. But it’s still early, so we expect his agenda to be scrutinized in the confirmation process.”

Foxx is expected to sail through the confirmation process in the coming weeks.
The MRF looks forward to working with Secretary Foxx as he leads the United States Department of Transportation.

BIKERNET DISCOVERS OUR FIRST EVER ZEN HAMSTER GURU—Opportunities: Subject of the week.
High achievers spot rich opportunities swiftly, make big decisions quickly and move into action immediately. Follow these principles and you can make your dreams come true.

–Robert H. Schuller

Are we prepared to accept and capitalize on the many opportunities that we come across?
The lessons of Life are repeated until they are learned. Over the years I have had many opportunities cross my path. Had I paused once in a while I may have even seen them. As I think back of some of the opportunities that I did seize; like my wife and some that I totally missed like my inner talent.

I still remember one business opportunity, which I could have made millions with and did not see, I think about the lesson which I learned from it many years later. I believe we have to slow down and think before we decide, to just pause. Each day many opportunities cross our path some big some small, are we moving too fast even to see them.

It may be the opportunity; to smile at someone and make their day, help a friend, to take advantage of a great business idea, to give thanks or to just enjoy a moment in the day.

Today Know: Today I open up to the Divine Flow of Great opportunities that Life has to offer. I slow down enough to recognize what lies ahead. Today I seize each and every opportunity big and small. Mostly today is my opportunity to grow and I am grateful.

And So It Is

Opportunities multiply as they are seized. Sun Tzu

NEW SPORTSTER CAMS FROM S&S–S&S Cycle Inc. announces the release of the new 482 bolt-in cams for 2000 and later Harley-Davidson® Sportster® models. Being bolt-in cams, they are fully compatible with stock pushrods and valve springs. That equates to an economical installation, since there is no need to invest in those replacement parts. In addition, the savings in labor is substantial, since the cylinder heads do not have to be removed to install valve springs.

The 482 cams work well for stock 883cc and 1200cc engines, and they are ideal for the S&S 883 to 1200cc conversion kits. The best performance gains are from 3500 to 6500 rpm. Although the 482 cams are designed for 2000 and later engines, they can be installed in 1988-’99 engines with stock flywheels if a 2000-up pinion gear is used

For more information and specs, go to www.sscycle.com/482cams.

GOVERNORS GIVE US HALF THE STORY–The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) recently released the results of their Motorcyclist Traffic Fatality 2012 preliminary report and the results are unfortunately distorted to present one single sided solution to motorcyclist safety.

The GHSA is blaming the expected rise in motorcyclist’s deaths largely on the extremely mild weather in 2012. They also cite the economy improving, allowing households to find themselves with discretionary income. Lastly, they acknowledged the fact that gas prices are at record highs and the desire for high mile per gallon vehicles is increasing.

To quote the study:

Riders will ‘use their fuel-efficient motorcycles rather than automobiles for commuting and other everyday travel,’ thus increasing rider deaths.
‘An improving economy produces more discretionary income with which to buy and ride motorcycles’ – Source: GHSA

Those are facts. Warm days, extra cash and a way to beat the gas prices. It would be very difficult to argue that those factors would not increase the amount of motorcyclists on the roads. Simple arithmetic shows that more motorcyclists on the roads will increase the chances that more are going to crash. The same equation works for all vehicle types.

Still the GHSA paints a very morbid picture and uses this false platform to push for mandatory helmet laws. After all motorcyclist fatalities are up. What they never mention is, so are registrations for motorcycles.

The study’s author James Hedlund, formerly of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, had this to say in an interview about the study, ‘I found that over the past three decades, the number of registrations tracks closely with the number of deaths’.

The long-term fatality flow chart used in the GHSA report would echo this if the registration numbers were also posted. As expected, those numbers were not included.

What started off as a promising report on valid reasons for the increase in motorcycle usage, ended up as an attack on the freedoms of all motorcycle riders in this country.

MOTORCYCLISTS DECRY PROPOSAL TO REGULATE EXHAUST SYSTEMS–

Most after-market pipes not EPA-certified

By Bud Wilkinson/RA

HARTFORD — An unexpected effort in the General Assembly to crack down on noisy motorcycles is being met by opposition from the motorcycle industry.

Under language added last week to a bill involving off-road ATVs, the sale, registration or operation of a street motorcycle having most after-market exhaust pipes would become a fineable offense.
The new provisions, if approved, would require federal Environmental Protection Agency noise emission control labels to be displayed on all motorcycles, and would institute fines of up to $250 per offense for non-compliance.

BIKERNET TRAVEL TIP–Here’s a little tip from me to you as an experienced traveler. Wake-up calls are the worst way to wake up. The phone rings, it’s loud and you can’t turn it down.

I leave the number of the room next to me.

It just rings very quietly and you hear the person next door yell, “Why are you calling me?”

Then you get up and take a shower.

It’s great.

Joseph L. Robertson’s Marijuana Will Be Returned By Cops Who Seized It, Judge Orders--TACOMA, Wash. — Police in Tacoma could soon be in real trouble over pot.
The department could be found in contempt if they continue to refuse to return a small amount of marijuana seized from a man after a traffic stop. Municipal Court Judge Jack Emery repeated an order to police Thursday to return the drug to Joseph L. Robertson within seven days or they could be found in contempt.

“Appeal or comply,” Emery told assistant city attorney John Walker. “Or next week, show up, and I would advise you to bring counsel.”

The judge first ordered police to return the drug on Feb. 28, but they have refused, The News Tribune reported Friday (http://bit.ly/10hwiD9).

It was seized in May of last year when an officer pulled over the Tacoma man for speeding. He was cited for driving without a license and misdemeanor marijuana possession. Prosecutors dismissed the drug charge in December, after state voters decided to legalize small amounts of the drug.

Robertson then asked for his pot back, and provided proof of medical marijuana authorization. The city refused, which led to Emery’s Feb. 28 order. If the matter is not settled by the May 2 hearing, it could go to higher courts.

The pot is now in the possession of the Pierce County sheriff’s department, which operates the property room for seized evidence. Deputies won’t give it to Robertson.

“It’s Tacoma’s case,” said sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer. “If they want it, they can come and get it.”
Although the judge said he thinks “there’s contemptuous behavior here,” Emery added that the case was “a quagmire,” due to the conflicting provisions of state and federal law.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT THURSDAY LESSON–Apostrophes

Rule 1
Use the apostrophe with contractions. The apostrophe is always placed at the spot where the letter(s) has been removed.
Examples:?don’t, isn’t ?You’re right. ?She’s a great teacher.

Rule 2
Use the apostrophe to show possession. Place the apostrophe before the s to show singular possession.

Examples:?one boy’s hat?one woman’s hat ?one actress’s hat ?one child’s hat ?Ms. Chang’s house

NOTE: Although names ending in s or an s sound are not required to have the second s added in possessive form, it is preferred.

Examples:?Mr. Jones’s golf clubs?Texas’s weather ?Ms. Straus’s daughter?Jose Sanchez’s artwork ?Dr. Hastings’s appointment (name is Hastings)?Mrs. Lees’s books (name is Lees)

Rule 3
Use the apostrophe where the noun that should follow is implied.
Example:?This was his father’s, not his, jacket.

Rule 4
To show plural possession, make the noun plural first. Then immediately use the apostrophe.

Examples:?two boys’ hats two women’s hats ?two actresses’ hats?two children’s hats ?the Changs’ house?the Joneses’ golf clubs ?the Strauses’ daughter?the Sanchezes’ artwork ?the Hastingses’ appointment ?the Leeses’ books

Rule 5
Do not use an apostrophe for the plural of a name.
Examples:?We visited the Sanchezes in Los Angeles.?The Changs have two cats and a dog.

Rule 6
With a singular compound noun, show possession with ‘s at the end of the word.
Example: my mother-in-law’s hat

Rule 7
If the compound noun is plural, form the plural first and then use the apostrophe.
Example: ?my two brothers-in-law’s hats

Rule 8
Use the apostrophe and s after the second name only if two people possess the same item.

Examples:
Cesar and Maribel’s home is constructed of redwood.
Cesar’s and Maribel’s job contracts will be renewed next year.
Indicates separate ownership.
Cesar and Maribel’s job contracts will be renewed next year.
Indicates joint ownership of more than one contract.

Rule 9
Never use an apostrophe with possessive pronouns: his, hers, its, theirs, ours, yours, whose. They already show possession so they do not require an apostrophe.

Correct: This book is hers, not yours.
Incorrect: Sincerely your’s.

Rule 10
The only time an apostrophe is used for it’s is when it is a contraction for it is or it has.

Examples:
It’s a nice day.
It’s your right to refuse the invitation.
It’s been great getting to know you.

Rule 11
The plurals for capital letters and numbers used as nouns are not formed with apostrophes.

Examples:
She consulted with three M.D.s. BUTShe went to three M.D.s’ offices.
The apostrophe is needed here to show plural possessive.
She learned her ABCs.
the 1990s not the 1990’s
the ’90s or the mid-’70s not the ’90’s or the mid-’70’s
She learned her times tables for 6s and 7s.

Exception:
Use apostrophes with capital letters and numbers when the meaning would be unclear otherwise.

Examples:
Please dot your i’s.
You don’t mean is.?Ted couldn’t distinguish between his 6’s and 0’s.
You need to use the apostrophe to indicate the plural of zero or it will look like the word Os. To be consistent within a sentence, you would also use the apostrophe to indicate the plural of 6’s.

Rule 12
Use the possessive case in front of a gerund (-ing word).
Examples:?Alex’s skating was a joy to behold.?This does not stop Joan’s inspecting of our facilities next Thursday.

Rule 13
If the gerund has a pronoun in front of it, use the possessive form of that pronoun.

Examples:?I appreciate your inviting me to dinner. I appreciated his working with me to resolve the conflict.

“As chairman of the Apostrophe Protection Society (www.apostrophe.org.uk), I had to write and express my pleasure at seeing your view on the apostrophe and names ending in an s.” —John Richards

UNCLE MONKEY ON FREEDOM AND THE SMELL OF SWEET GRASSES ALONG AN OPEN ROAD–
Alternating warm and cool breezes brushing against my skin as I transcend the time and place. Man and machine, nature against industrial progress. The open road calls, beckons for the miles to be crossed. The smell of sweet grasses, pungent earthy dust stirred in farmer fields. The thumping of heart amplified by the hot steel below. Riding, living.

We shed the shackles of society and embrace freedom. Freedom, the word on so many people’s lips but few know it, truly understand it the way we do. Riding isn’t simply transportation, a Unitarian way from point A to B. We take the long way around getting lost within ourselves and not in lines on a map. No 9-5, no copier low on toner, no brain dead customer to please.

Freedom to yell, to roar, uncensored thoughts and ideas, quiet reflection on all that is right, all the wrongs we will change. Freedom to judge time in not minutes and hours but simply the rise and fall of the sun. Freedom to ride. It is alive in all of us. It stirs us from our sleep to ride a few more miles before we must conform.

It quickens our pulse when we hear the growl of dual pipes and a handful of throttle. We ride because it is who we are, who we want to be. Man and machine in the wind.

–bad Uncle Monkey

MISS LUBE RACK 1955–

Here is an interesting piece of history from a guy who knew Nancy Pelosi back in the day. He had this to say about her:

Nancy D’Alesandro was the daughter of the mayor of Baltimore and the grand daughter of the governor of Maryland who was sent to jail for political corruption. She married poor old Mr. Pelosi and came west where she helped run Jerry Brown’s first campaign for governor and then got on to the Board of Supervisors for the City and County of San Francisco. She also was Miss Lube Rack in 1955.

May Day, May Day, one of my favorite months of any year. Time to continue charging your batteries, tune the hot rods and haul ass to your favorite patch of asphalt for a little rest and relaxation.

Had the distinct pleasure of chauffeuring the lovely editor of IronWorks, Marilyn Stemp to the Illusion Cycles Birthday bash for KO and their Annual Open House, Sunday afternoon. We just happened to meet our Bikernet Three Wheeler Editor at large Gary Koz Mraz. Gary was spotted in the parking lot giving KO his latest book, Midnight Rider on a Graveyard Run.

Just 99 Days until Speed Week

Our 5-Ball Racing Team Raycer has found a home for a few of the final details as we await the call from Race Tech Suspension in Corona for a complete suspension make over. The good Dr. Willie is on the job and kickin’ ass. As of Wednesday afternoon the taillights, turn signals and stop lights are connected and active.
The oil cooler fans are routed securely with the switch mounted on the coil bracket.

The Pingel air shifter solenoid is wired, wrapped and mounted in foam to lessen the vibration.

The rear caliper has the brake line mounted and the system is bled. We’ll extend the mounting brackets as we re-fit the foot pegs, shift lever and brake lever looking the comfort zone on and off of the street.

After an inspiring talk this morning with Reggie Jr. of R&R Cycle located in Manchester, New Hampshire, we’re laying out a inner-cooler system that will easily tie in while mounted on the front down tubes. Cool idea Jr., Thanks.

Lets go fast and safe.

Friday is officially Ride to Work Day for those that need a reminder to ride.

Thanks….With one helleva lot of help from my family and Industry friends….Thanks, Thanks, Thanks.

We’re on track for a stellar year on the street and on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Well, the plan was to attend the Alabama State 2013 Hog Rally in Dothan Alabama April 25th to 27th. While there, it would give me an opportunity to visit my friend and brother Berry Wardlaw at Accurate Engineering and some others I know in the area.

I would be testing the Jims Force Flow which is a high velocity cooling fan that helps reduce cylinder head temps by up to 100 degrees and also some radar detection devices from Escort. I will scribble separate articles on both of these soon.

The ride up Interstate 95 and the Interstate 10 went well and quickly. Hey, I said I was testing radar detecting devices already. LOL

After stopping at Accurate, Berry and I stopped by Harley-Davidson of Dothan to check in and say HI to some of the people there I know. They held the Welcome Party there on Thursday from 5:30 until 8:00PM and will organize Demo Rides Friday and Saturday.

Other activities were handled out of the Clarion Host Hotel. I did stop by and got a schedule but did not find much I was interested in. Don’t take that the wrong way, they had plenty going on and those involved said they enjoyed themselves. I just had some other things I would rather do.

I was more interested in the Gumbo Cook Off and street party that was held on S. Foster Street. My friend Janna runs the Blue Moon Café there and I always make it a point to roll by and have some of her great Louisiana Style cooking. And right next door to her is my friend Jeff’s bar, Bullets Speakeasy; Damn this was too easy and right up my alley. I like to party, eat and drink. Throw in some music and I am a happy camper.

Those of you who know me, know I will ride from Florida to “Nawlins” (dat be New Orleans for you Yankees) just to eat a Cajun lunch. Well, that somehow qualified me to be a judge in the Gumbo Cook-Off. All of it was good, but a few were Great. Hey, I might have found something new to add to my resume–Food Judge.

Now, while I was busy tasting Gumbo my buddy Berry “Conass-Crawdad Cooking” Wardlaw was busy doing his thing cooking up Crawdads, with corn, taters and some kind of secret stuff. Hey, ya know how dem cooks are not wanting to give up their secrets. I would rather be doin’ da eatin’ dan da cookin any way, so we all good.

Add some adult beverage, some music, and I got a case of Happy Feet out on Foster Street, well until I got tired anyway.

I am not sure when the next Hog Rally will be in Dothan BUT the Gumbo Cook-off is every year and of course the Blue Moon and Bullets are open all year long.

This is becoming a favorite stop for people heading to Panama Beach for some fun in da sun.
Ya’ll come an visit soon!

AHDRA Official Announcement–
I don’t really know where to start. This is one of the toughest things I have ever had to do. I guess the best thing to do is just get it out of the way.

The 2013 AHDRA Championship Points Series is cancelled. I am sorry for holding everyone up, but there was potential to work this out and I wanted to give it the best shot. Unfortunately, it did not materialize.

With our declining sponsorship support, most likely driven by our declining racer and spectator attendance, most likely driven by our crappy economy, we are unable to plan a budget that has a positive bottom line. This would be the 5th year of negative cash flow for AHDRA and she just can’t stand it financially.

Although they were committed to remaining as a presenting AHDRA sponsor for 2013, Harley-Davidson is moving most of its sponsorship spending to the NHRA’s Sportsman series. Last week’s news from the folks at Rush Racing Products, that they would not be continuing their sponsorship at AHDRA, was the final blow.

These were our two largest sponsors and contributed the lion’s share of sponsor revenue for AHDRA. I want to thank Hawaya Racing, Vreeland’s H-D, Irene Fish, Frank Capone, RC Components, Gainesville H-D and all the others that have committed their support for 2013.

However, without the level of support from Harley-Davidson and Rush, we can’t make the numbers work. I also want to thank Harley-Davidson and Rush Racing Products for their many years of support. Business is business and though I wish it were different, they made their decisions based on what’s best for their future. I have enjoyed working with Kris Schoonover at H-D and Terry Daniel and Lou Pringle at Rush.

These were hard decisions for them to make, and I respect their need to make them. I also want to thank all of the AHDRA members and competitors. You are one great group of people. I have lived and breathed Harley Drag Racing for the past 14 years, and have met some of the finest people I have ever known. You inspired me and kept me going through the good times and the rough times.

Please know that more than anything; you are what I will miss. On the bright side, there’s a bunch of places to race this year. AMRA looks like they have a good schedule. And with the Manufacturer’s Cup Series and NHRA offering several new venues, there should be ample opportunities to race. Maybe there’s even an enterprising entrepreneur out there that would like to take up the reins of AHDRA and run with it! I am open to any and all possibilities……

–Craig Tharpe

AHDRA memberships that were mailed in will be returned and if you signed up online with a credit card your card has not been charged. An official press release with more particulars will be published next week.

DRUG WAR ISN’T WORKING–Government Accountability Office Says The Drug War Isn’t Working; Did Anybody Think It Was?

by Paul Armentano, NORML Deputy Director

The federal government’s anti-drug efforts are inefficient and ineffective, according to a just released report issued by the Congressional watchdog agency, the US Government Accountability Office (GAO).

As if we didn’t know.

The GAO report assessed whether the Obama administration’s anti-drug strategies, as articulated by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (the ONDCP aka the Drug Czar’s office) in its 2010 National Drug Control Strategy report, have yet to achieve its stated goals.

The answer? They haven’t.

States the GAO:
“The public health, social, and economic consequences of illicit drug use, coupled with the constrained fiscal environment of recent years, highlight the need to ensure that federal programs efficiently and effectively use their resources to address this problem. ONDCP has developed a 5-year Strategy to reduce illicit drug use and its consequences, but our analysis shows lack of progress toward achieving four of the Strategy’s five goals for which primary data are available.”
In particular, the GAO criticized the administration for failing to adequately address rising levels of youth marijuana consumption.

The GAO also rebuffed the ONDCP’s allegation that increased rates adolescent marijuana use are a result of the passage of statewide laws decriminalizing the plant or allowing for its therapeutic use.

“Other factors, including state laws and changing attitudes and social norms regarding drugs, may also affect drug use. We examined studies on three of these other factors, which we refer to as societal factors, which may affect youth marijuana use. …

The studies that assessed the effect of medical marijuana laws that met our review criteria found mixed results on effects of the laws on youth marijuana use. … [S]tudies that assessed the effect of marijuana decriminalization that met our review criteria found little to no effect of the laws on youth marijuana use.”

REPORTS FROM THE TEXAS FRONT–Here is an HDR image I did. It is a pain trying to do this on my laptop. It was not purchased to run photo software!!!! 1000 images from the past weekend and Saturday was rained out, plus sorting the however many from last month. See I got the vest…don’t pay any attention to the unconscious photographer lying on the floor.

Anyway being on the “Wall” is Frigging Great, not taking anything away from the Top Alcohol cars, but when you are 8 inches away from a Top Fuel car, and it blasts down the track, man, that is hard to explain! I am still trying to get the tire residue off my cameras and lenses!

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER FINDINGS–6 Ways to Treat Diarrhea Diarrhea – a common and uncomfortable digestive disorder – is characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, cramping, nausea and frequent loose, watery stools. Typically caused by parasites, bacterial or viral infections, most cases of diarrhea are temporary and will clear up on their own within a few days without extensive treatment. You can help speed up the recovery process with the following:

1.Replenish lost fluids, salts, and electrolytes to prevent dehydration – drink electrolyte-rich formulas such as Pedialyte or coconut water.

2.Avoid certain foods that trigger or worsen symptoms, including milk and other dairy products; caffeine and alcohol; and greasy, fatty and spicy foods.

3.Follow the “BRAT” diet, an acronym for bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. These foods should be added to the diet; however, they should not replace a normal, well-balanced diet.

4.Carob powder can help soothe irritated intestines. Start with one tablespoon, mixed with some applesauce, cinnamon and honey to make it palatable. Take it on an empty stomach.

5.Blackberry root bark (Rubus macropetalus) contains tannins, which have a desirable astringent action on the intestinal lining. Take a teaspoon of tincture in water every two to four hours.

6.Probiotics help repopulate the digestive tract with healthy bacteria. Take one tablespoon of the liquid culture or one to two capsules with meals unless the label directs otherwise. (It is particularly important to take probiotics twice a day, with meals, as soon as you begin taking antibiotics. Continue the twice-daily ingestion of probiotics for a few days after completing the course of antibiotics.)

Anti-diarrheal medications – such as loperamide (Imodium) and bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) and kaolin pectin suspension (Kaopectate) – can reduce the severity of symptoms but won’t speed recovery. If you experience diarrhea that lasts longer than three days, or stool that contains pus or looks bloody or tarry, contact your physician.

U.S. To Seek Limits On Car Touchscreens–

The Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) – U.S. traffic safety regulators are expected to propose stronger measures to keep drivers from being distracted by in-car touchscreens.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration Administrator David Strickland have scheduled a news conference for Tuesday afternoon to address distracted driving.

Auto industry officials are expecting voluntary limits on the number of times a driver can push touch screen buttons while a vehicle is moving.
Industry guidelines now limit that to 10 touches or a total of 20 seconds.

A spokeswoman for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers says the government has discussed a limit of six touches or 12 seconds. The alliance is concerned that the regulations will encourage the use of mobile devices while driving.

THE SENSITIVE MAN– A woman meets a man in a bar. They end up leaving together..

They get back to his place,
And as he shows her around his apartment.

She notices that one wall of his bedroom is
Completely filled with soft, sweet, cuddly teddy bears.

There are three shelves in the bedroom,
There were small bears all along
The bottom shelf,
Medium-sized bears covering the
Length of the middle shelf,
And huge, enormous bears running
All the way along the top shelf.

She is quite impressed by his
Sensitive side.

They share a bottle of wine and
After awhile, she thinks
‘Oh my God! Maybe, this is THE guy!

She turns to him and kisses him
Lightly on the lips
He responds warmly.
They continue to kiss, the passion builds,
He carries her into his bedroom
Where they rip off each other’s
Clothes and make hot, steamy love.

She is so overwhelmed that she
Responds with more passion,
More creativity, more heat than she
Has ever known.
After an intense, explosive night
Of raw passion with this sensitive guy,
They are lying there together in
The afterglow.
The woman rolls over, gently
Strokes his chest and asks coyly,

‘Well, how was it?’
The guy gently strokes her cheek,
Looks deeply into her eyes, and says:

‘Help yourself to any prize from the middle shelf’

PROGRESSIVE – 970 Series Piggyback Shocks for Baggers!–High performance suspension and massive touring machines are not often spoken of in the same sentence, yet Progressive seems to know these are the bikes that need it the most.

With that in mind, they’ve taken their top shelf 970 Series damper and engineered a remote reservoir to create what is likely the pinnacle of bagger suspension. They begin with high pressure gas charged dampers, incorporate deflective disc valving and package them in hard anodized aluminum bodies designed to reduce friction and increase performance.

They also tell us progressive rate springs are regulated via threaded pre-load adjusters, allowing for the ultimate in fine tuning and personalized ride quality. Remote Reservoirs mount in front of the bags and allow for additional tuning via easily accessed compression adjustment knobs. Available in 12”, 13” and standard or heavy duty spring rates to suite your desired ride height and weight.

Fitment for 1993-2013 Harley Baggers. Check it out on their site or contact your local Progressive Suspension dealer for more information.

LET’S ROCK—Just over the next couple of days we will post the Kustom’s Inc. Wire Plus wiring tech, the Too Broke for Laughlin hideout, another harried Cantina Episode, and another twisted feature is headed our way.

We are also working on an article about these locking straps, which are downright amazing. Jeff has tie-down straps for loading and securing motorcycles. He has straps that run through a myriad of small items, then lock, like a cable lock. Then he has a short combination cable lock for jackets and helmets. It’s cool stuff.

Then we started working with CVPerformance. They make needles and jets for CV carburetors, and I recently received their stainless idle adjustment screw. Very cool, but first thing, after I took this shot I attempted to install it and dropped the spring.

It immediately danced across my lift dove to the deck and disappeared, the bastard. I’ve been searching ever since.

Have a helluva weekend.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
