NON-STOP ACTION THURSDAY NEWS FOR JUNE 20, 2013

Hey,

I work hard all week planning for the Thursday News. The notion is to focus solely on the news on Thursday, but that rarely happens. There’s always business that jumps in the way, requests, flat tires, pissed off old ladies, or emergencies. Okay, so what’s new?

Let’s hit the news. It’s going to be a good one.

The Thursday News is Sponsored in part by IronWorks and Cycle Source Magazines.

AUSTRALIAN CLUB NEWS, Tramps motorcycle club ‘puppets’ of Hells Angels say Aussie cops– A small motorcycle club in the state of Victoria’s north-east whose members were stripped of their firearm licences is a ”puppet” of the Hells Angels and operates only with the club’s permission, according to police.

The claim was made by a lawyer for Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Ken Lay at a hearing at the Firearms Appeals Committee last week and foreshadowed the evidence police are likely to rely on when they apply to criminalise such clubs under new laws.

Members of the Wangaratta-based Tramps motorcycle club are appealing Mr Lay’s decision to strip nine of them of their firearm licences on the basis they are not fit and proper persons to hold them.

Since stripping the Tramps – and dozens of other bikers – of their licences last year, Victoria Police has refused to explain why they are not considered fit and proper persons, but details finally emerged at last week’s hearing.

Counsel for Mr Lay said the Tramps’ long-standing ties to the Hells Angels – one of the ”big four” clubs, along with the Comancheros, the Rebels and the Bandidos – had compromised them and forced them into the role of a puppet club. It was claimed the Tramps were previously a front for the larger Coffin Cheaters club.

It’s claimed the Tramps operated in the north-east of Victoria only with permission of the Hells Angels and therefore owed loyalty to the bigger club.

The Tramps have acknowledged in the past that they have long-standing ties to the Hells Angels, but have denied being a front for the bigger club.

”Mr Harding has no loyalty to any other club,” said John Suta, a lawyer for Tramps president Ronny Harding. ”The police don’t understand that you can maintain friendships with men from other clubs without giving anything in return.”

Police have asked that some of the evidence used to cancel the firearm licences be kept secret because it contains intelligence on ”outlaw motorcycle gangs” and could identify a police source.

In a submission to the committee, police also said they needed to keep information from other police services – and material from ongoing investigations – secret.

This is significant because Victoria Police is on the verge of applying to the Supreme Court to have motorcycle clubs declared ”criminal organizations” under laws passed by the state government last year.

Individuals who breach a control order could face up to five years’ jail and organisations can be fined up to $400,000 and have their assets confiscated.

ROGUE BAD COP FILE NOW OPEN: ‘Humane’ Officer Point Blank Shoots and Executes 5 Kittens In Front of Screaming Children—

by Cassius Methyl

‘Humane’ officer Barry Accorti arrived at an Ohio home, after a parent called in about a family of cats living in a pile of wood, who she wanted taken to a shelter.

The mother of four who called, said the kittens had fleas, and she wanted them removed. Barry Accorti, the officer who arrived shortly, claimed the shelter was full, and that the kittens had to go to “kitty heaven”.

Without warning, Barry proceeded to fire rounds into the kittens, executing them point blank in front of four children and the mother. The children began crying and screaming, and the mother later made this a public affair.

The completely out of control police state consisting of brutal officers, often without any common sense or morality whatsoever except for the false morality indoctrinated into them from the media, is being protested nationwide, as they continue to abuse their power, while officers face no consequences for their crimes against the peace.

The kingpin of this gang of thugs in Ohio, chief of police, said that “shooting is an acceptable form of euthanasia”, and “the officers actions were appropriate. ”

The NYPD is even now a global police force, with offices in several other countries, bearing the slogan “the best police department in the world.”

NEWS FROM THE FINEST GLOVE MAKER IN THE MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY–Office Manager Christie Ung and I are in the middle of a 6-week road trip driving around the country for Total Control Training and Lee Parks Design.

We first drove from California to Toronto, Canada for four Total Control ARCs then had a great show at Americade in Lake George, New York. It’s been great seeing so many of you at these events as it makes the time away from home more bearable.

We even took my two pit bulls with us for the trip and they are loving all the attention from the passers-by, not to mention chasing all the new critters in each state. Unfortunately we had to leave them in Niagara Falls, NY for that part of the journey as the entire province of Ontario has banned all pit bulls! And I always thought Canadians were the among the most open people on the planet.

I guess any government can overstep its bounds some of the time. Fortunately we had a much better time visiting Lee Parks Design dealer Town Moto in downtown Toronto. They are a veritable motorcycle culture toy store with nick-knacks aplenty, along with the usual quality staples for riding.

We did get to take a little time for fun and got to experience a bobsled run at Lake Placid, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. The sleds are on wheels for the summer and they limit you to the bottom 1/2 mile of the course. Even still we hit 55 mph and what felt like about 3Gs of cornering force. Check it out if you’re ever in upstate NY.

While in NY we also got a chance to visit our new Lee Parks Design dealer Union Garage in Brooklyn. They have a really cool little store filled with trick riding gear. Definitely worth the trip to visit.

As a special for Father’s day, we’re offering a FREE pair of our popular Rok Pack Straps with any order over $85 on the Lee Parks Design website. Just add the straps in your shopping cart and type STRAPS in the coupon code area. You can also use this code as a discount off the standard-sized Rok straps.

I’ll actually be teaching a couple schools in the next two weeks while being on the East Coast. This Saturday June 15 is one of our popular suspension clinics in Demarest, NJ. Next week I’ll be teaching a Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic at the BMW RA National Rally in Asheville, NC at the famed Biltmore Estate. Both of these still have a few left so if you’re so inclined, I’d love to see you there.

We have some new locations worth mentioning in Georgetown, KY and Cuyahoga Falls, OH as well as at the BMW MOA National Rally in Salem, OR. Of course, we have many Total Control ARCs planned all over North America listed below so see if there is one in your neighborhood and pull the trigger on that bad boy.

Also don’t forget our two “vacation” events this year with The Moto Mancation in Sopiago Springs,CA and the High Seas Rally in the Eastern Caribbean which is a motorcycle rally on a cruise ship! And just to show you that you’re never too old, or skilled, to learn something new, I’m going to be taking the MotoMark1 Precision Manuevering class as a student (I signed up just like anybody else) right before teaching a Suspension Clinic. You can register for both classes with me for a special combo price here.—Lee Parks

REPORT FROM THE NATIONAL MOTORISTS ASSOCIATION–

Red-Light Camera Companies Fight Back

Despite scandal, gross mismanagement and financial setback, purveyors of red-light cameras continue their quest to place cameras on every street corner in the nation. Or maybe it’s because of these challenges. Either way, camera companies are practically doing or saying anything to regain the profitable ground they’ve lost over the last year.

One strategy is to put the hit on states that have traditionally been “protected” from cameras either through legislation or court ruling.

In February, Redflex lobbyists swarmed over the Minnesota Statehouse pushing a bill to allow ticket cameras into the state. The bill was written to thwart a 2007 Minnesota Supreme Court ruling that Minneapolis’ red-light camera program was unconstitutional. The bill was defeated in committee, thanks in part to the efforts of the NMA and ABATE of Minnesota.

Next up Michigan, where a 2007 ruling from the state’s attorney general has been keeping cameras at bay. Nonetheless, recently introduced camera legislation has turned Michigan into the latest photo enforcement battleground state. The NMA has been aggressively fighting the measure at the committee level, but the outcome is far from certain.

The point: If you live in one of the 15 states that have taken steps to keep cameras out, stay alert. Chances are that a camera company lobbyist is cozying up to a friendly state lawmaker with a nice campaign donation and a pre-written camera bill that needs support.

Camera companies and their supporters have also been supplementing their specious PR arsenal with new myths. In Florida, it was recently revealed that the Florida Department of Transportation had purposely decreased yellow-light times at camera-equipped intersections.

Many public officials are now calling for longer yellow lights. In response, camera company spokespeople are claiming that any safety benefit from longer yellow-light intervals is temporary because drivers adapt to the longer times and begin running red lights again.

Not true. Several studies debunk this claim:? ?“The data show that the percentage of last-to-cross vehicles clearing the intersection (T + 0.2) seconds or more past the yellow onset was not appreciably changed by the extension of the yellow phase.”

The Influence of the Time Duration of Yellow Traffic Signals on Driver Response, Stimpson/ Zador/Tarnoff, ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) Journal, November 1980 “Research has consistently shown that drivers do not, in fact, adapt to the length of the yellow.”

Determining Vehicle Change Intervals – A Proposed Recommended Practice, Institute of Transportation Engineers, 1985 “Drivers do adapt to the increase in yellow duration; however, this adaptation does not undo the benefit of an increase in yellow duration.” Effect of Yellow-Interval Timing on Red-Light-Violation Frequency at Urban Intersections, Bonneson/Zimmerman, Texas Transportation Institute, January 2004

The JIMS Super Gas class will be highly contested as racers compete on the 1/8 mile drag strip for the top prize of a 6-Speed Transmission Gear Set, $250 for runner-up, and $125 for each semi-finalist. “We’re excited to join the WMDRA’s efforts to renew the early ‘Rally and Races’ spirit with grass roots motorcycle drag racing and we welcome the opportunity to support the racers,” said JIMS Director of Product & Business Development Paul Platts.

According to WMDRA President Sandra Alberti, “This is such a wonderful opportunity for the men and women racers of the WMDRA and our Super Gas competitors; we are so happy to welcome JIMS to the WMDRA family of supporters.”

Opening in 1967, JIMS established itself as one of the frontrunners in the aftermarket Harley-Davidson performance industry. MILLION MILE MAN VISITS Hupy and Abraham, S.C. Milwaukee Office–Former Wisconsin State Senator Dave Zien, also known as the Million Mile Man, visited the Milwaukee office of Hupy and Abraham, S.C. on Tuesday, June 18. He met with Attorney Michael Hupy to discuss some upcoming projects he’s involved with including a 50th Anniversary of the Viet Nam War scheduled to take place sometime in November of this year in Madison, Wisconsin.

Zien has been inducted into several Motorcycle Halls of Fame and is considered a “Patriot Warrior” by many. Attorney Hupy presented Zien with a signed copy of the video “Last Ounce of Courage” starring Marshall Teague. Hupy is a friend of Marshall Teague and they compete in a celebrity clay shoot each year for charity.

When Zien logged the last of a million miles on his FXRT, Attorney Hupy rode behind him as he entered the parking lot of Hal’s Harley-Davidson in New Berlin, Wisconsin for a giant celebration of that world record. Hupy and Abraham, S.C. sponsored Zien in his successful attempt to reach the million mile mark on a single motorcycle. That bike is now in the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum in South Dakota.

MEMO FROM BIKERNET AIR FORCE BASE IN GREENLAND– Even if you weren’t in the service you can appreciate this one….

A US Air Force C-130 was scheduled to leave Thule Air Base, Greenland , at midnight during a winter month. During the pilot’s preflight check, he discovers that the latrine holding tank is still full from the last flight. So a message is sent to the base and an airman who was off duty is called out to take care of it.

The young man finally gets to the air base and makes his way to the aircraft only to find that the latrine pump-truck has been left outdoors and is frozen solid, so he must find another one in the hangar, which takes even more time. He returns to the aircraft and is less than enthusiastic about what he has to do. Nevertheless, he goes about the pumping job deliberately, carefully and slowly… so as not to risk criticism later. As he’s leaving the plane, the pilot stops him and says, ‘Son, your attitude and performance has caused this flight to be late and I’m going to personally see to it that you are not just reprimanded but punished.’ Shivering in the cold, his task finished, he takes a deep breath, stands tall and says,

“Sir, with all due respect, I’m not your son…. I’m an Airman in the United States Air Force. I’ve been in Thule , Greenland , for 11 months without any leave, and reindeer’s asses are beginning to look good to me. I have one stripe; it’s 2:30 in the morning, the temperature is 40 degrees below zero, and my job here is to pump shit out of an aircraft.

Just exactly what form of punishment did you have in mind?”

HELP TORNADO VICTIMS–
I got a group of people to help the Oklahoma Tornado victims. In the midst of all, I was confronted with a huge problem. The people of Hood & a few surrounding counties were also hit by devastating tornadoes.

FEMA will not be helping the good people of Texas. Many lost their homes and everything they owned. Six people died, and hundreds were injured. I am asking everyone to

A.) Share what I am doing to help my fellow Texans and ask them to support it.

B.) Support by buying a patch if you can.

I had 2 unique patches designed specifically to sell & use the monies to give to the Texas tornado victims. The monies will not be donated to a charity. Monies over cost will go straight to the victims. I need everyone supporting & spreading the word to make a difference. Many have nothing left but a cement slab that was once their home and all their belongings.

Please, check this out (click on the link) & then pass it on to your friends, family, and fellow Texans.

Banff motorcyclist pursued by ‘massive’ grey wolf along B.C. highway-

BY TRISTIN HOPPER, NATIONAL POST

Last Saturday, Banff mechanic Tim Bartlett was christening a new motorcycle through the Rocky Mountains when he had a rare wildlife encounter that was equal parts terrifying and enchanting. On a stretch of British Columbia’s Highway 93, a massive grey wolf emerged from the trees, lunged at his speeding ride and chased after him at full speed as he pulled away.

The story would have become little more than another legend clanging around the roadhouses of Western Canada if Mr. Bartlett had not whipped a camera out of his top pocket to record the event for posterity; capturing a series of rare snapshots that have since been beamed around the world. The National Post’s Tristin Hopper reached him by phone.

How did this happen?

I was about 320 [kilometers] into a 400 k trip … and was doing about 90km/h in the right hand lane going north and [the wolf] came from the left hand side of the road. It darted out, crossed the other lane and I had to swerve and accelerate to get around it. I went forward about 100 meters and when I turned around it was just standing in the middle of the lane watching me.

How close did it get to you?

It was coming at me. It probably got to within a couple meters, easy, maybe a meter. If I’d have slowed down I would have definitely hit it, so I just opened it up, got a bit of power and got around it. I’ve had dogs run out at me on bikes before and you sort of get a feel for the distance the speed you’re going, but it was pretty tight.

But after you’d gotten some distance between you, that’s when you pulled around for a closer look?

I stopped the bike, pulled my gloves off, took my camera out, did a u-turn and came back, and that’s when I managed to get the pictures. When [the wolf] heard me coming, it jumped back over a [roadside] barrier and it started running. I sped up a little bit, it got in nice and close and I was driving with my right hand and clicking pictures with my left. When I first came back around, it came in really close; probably a bit too close. It would have been a real bad time to run out of gas. Even over the motor, I could hear it. I could hear its feet on the road.

Do you think this wolf was playing with you, or were you being hunted?

To me, it was more exciting than scary, I’ll put it to you that way. In my gut, I didn’t feel threatened at all. I would have felt threatened if I was walking or on a bicycle, but I knew I could outrun it. It also didn’t have a real aggressive feel. I don’t think it was after me, it was probably after the bike. That’s just the way I felt; I could have been wrong, I’m no wolf expert.

How fast was it going?

I didn’t look at the speedo, but I’d say somewhere between 30 to 40 km/h.

And the wolf’s size?

It was bigger than the biggest dog I’ve ever seen. Long legs and a big head, a massive head; it was almost out of proportion. It was big enough.
The chase kept up for about a kilometer. How did it end?

Just seeing a wolf is one thing, to have it run beside you and chase you is another thing altogether.

BIKERNET INTERNATIONAL EDITOR RETURNS FROM ASIAN BIKEFEST–
I was recently invited to attend the second annual bikefest held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia Hosted and produced by Nagaworld Casino on the banks of the Mekong river. The casino is truly world-class, newer than most Vegas casinos and provides gamblers with all they need. In fact it has been so successful that they are now adding a second gaming floor and more rooms. They were the most gracious hosts, thank you Alan, Suzie and Farid.

Can’t say enough about the quality of everything and service superb. http://www.nagaworld.com/

Last year the ride count was 350, and I didn’t get the final number for this year. Planning and execution of all aspects of the event were flawless or at least not noticed by my critical eye. There was a terrific venue set up outside the front of the casino where dozens of vendors were set up. The main stage was busy all weekend and held some great concerts after the blazing hot sun went down as the daytime temperature got up to 99. But that didn’t stop the crowds from showing up and the bikers from riding. These guys are hardy bikers riding in conditions we don’t see often.

One organized ride was to a resort that the local city dwellers used on weekends for cultural enlightenment. They are monastery grounds, with a temple of spiritual significance at the top of a several hundred step climb to a grand vista of the countryside.

This was an escorted ride like you have not been on. The big bikes own the roads in Cambodia. Everybody is expected to pull over and let them pass a la emergency vehicle style here in the states. Highways become barely paved roads that become dirt roads and if you don’t hit a scared water buffalo you stand a good chance of reaching your destination. With a long procession of noisy bikes, the crowds have a chance to assemble parade style to see a relatively rare gathering of Harleys and cruisers rumble by.

Plenty of scheduled and organized events Thursday through Monday. At one point a group headed out on a ride to Angkor Wat, one of the most famous ruins in the world, and it should should be one of the seven wonders of the world. Definitely an amazing city once back in about 1200 A.D. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angkor_wat

A packed weekend but of course if you found any spare time there was lots of sightseeing around Phnom Penh, the capitol of Cambodia. A great bunch of people from all over the world came for this. All were very friendly and seemed to have a great time, I did.

UNCLE MONKEY RUNS AFOUL OF SNOW WHITE–Snow White has me stumped. Something in the motor is making noise and it has me scratching my head. I could dive head long into the motor pulling parts apart to seek out the source but it could quickly get out of my reach.

I had to bite the bullet taking her to a trained tech to sort out the problems. I left her together and running so he could hear exactly what I was hearing. It was my only option. I’ve been on the other side of the counter when some well-meaning customer has dropped a box of parts off saying it didn’t work. It meant lots of time checking things that didn’t need to be checked and time means money.

It was difficult. The local guys specialize in Jap bikes so while a motor is a motor I wanted someone who knew the inside of a big twin. The closest Harley dealership doesn’t even like working on Harleys so my aftermarket Harley “inspired” motor would be a complete slap in the face to them.

That left me and Snow White travelling three times the distance to Yorkton Harley-Davidson. Even though she wasn’t booked in until the next morning, they unloaded her immediately. All the techs surrounded her. They listened and immediately discuss mechanical options, giving their two cents as to what the problem might be. They all asked Bill, the service writer, if they were the one that was going to get to work on her. As I waited for the paper work to be drawn up, I looked through the bikes in the showroom.

Owner, Rick, understood the strong heritage that drove them to where they are now. The majority of the floor space was dedicated to bikes. I was eyeing up a murdered out RoadKing and before I knew it they had a spare helmet strapped on my head and I was on the road for a test ride. I was impressed and tempted.

The blacked out two up bagger is the complete opposite of Snow White making a good compliment to my empty garage space.

Don’t miss our story about the History of SU carbs, in the Cantina.

For now I must wait on a prognoses from the mechanic. As I talk to Rick they told me about accidently cutting their drag bike drive belt, because it could throw the belt at the top end, at the worst time. The cut belt allowed half the belt to stay on through the trap.

It reassured me that they understand performance, that sometimes a wrong makes something correct. He pointed out the Shovelheads and other bikes that his staff ride and work on. Yorkton Harley- Davidson understands the last 110 years, that bikes are apart of us, who we are. They understand we all come from different walks of life, from different income levels. That we stood behind our V-twin when it wasn’t fashionable, when it wasn’t the most reliable. ‘

Rick is there to make sure that those roots, the very foundation that Harley-Davidson was built on doesn’t get lost.

GUN NUT FREEDOM ALERT–California:Vote to Ban Traditional Ammunition to be Heard in Senate Committee on Monday– Members of the state Senate Appropriations Committee MUST hear your OPPOSITION

?Assembly Bill 711 would make California the first state in the nation to prohibit the use of all lead ammunition for hunting. This bill’s next stop is in the state Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, June 23, when it is expected to be brought up for a vote.

We need a strong voice of opposition to AB 711.??

Extensive research has shown that traditional lead ammunition does NOT pose a health hazard for hunters.??In order to save California’s hunting heritage, all hunters, recreational shooters and gun owners MUST actively oppose AB 711.

We strongly urge you to contact each member of the state Senate Appropriations Committee listed below. Please forward this alert to your family, friends, fellow sportsmen and gun owners throughout California and urge them to do the same.??

There are five facts that you can communicate to members of the state Senate Appropriations Committee and your state Senator as reasons to OPPOSE AB 711:

1)The lead in ammunition is not the same as the highly toxic, chemical lead in old paint and gasoline.

2) Federal and state health department studies have concluded that lead ammunition is not a human health risk.

3) Studies have found that lead ammunition does not cause lead poisoning in wildlife.

4) Despite 99% hunter compliance, the AB 821 lead ammunition ban has failed to reduce lead poisoning in condors.

5) AB 711 fails to address the alternative sources of lead in the environment that are poisoning condors and other wildlife.?

For more information on AB 711, check out HuntForTruth.org’s shocking video opposing AB 711 and its recent hard-hitting rebuttal to the bill sponsor’s alleged “facts” sheet in support of the bill. This video and the rebuttal reveal the truth regarding lead ammunition, and expose the misinformation being spread by the ammunition ban proponents in their latest attack on hunters that is being disguised as a campaign to “get the lead out.”

Please act now!

Visit the HuntForTruth.org website and Facebook page and “like” us, “share us with your friends, and anyone else you think may be interested in helping to fight this serious assault on hunting. You can also follow HuntforTruth.org on YouTube. Click here to receive e-bulletins from Hunt for Truth. Click here to forward to a friend. Please help get the word out! Forwarding and posting this email in its entirety is allowed and encouraged.

You can also remain informed on important issue to hunters, like California’s AB 711 and other attempts to ban traditional ammunition at NRAhuntersrights.org.

The state Senators LISTED ON THE NRA WEBSITE are the key votes on the Senate Appropriations Committee. Please contact each of them as soon as possible and respectfully ask them to OPPOSE AB 711.

One helluva week so far in the getting-warmer-by-the-day quaint Harbor town of Wilmington, CA. The call came in from Christi, Suspension Dept. at Race Tech Suspension in Corona, CA. early Tuesday morning. Most if not all of the Race Tech employees ride a 2-wheeler of some type. Great job with happy employees.

“Ray, your hot rod will be ready by Friday the 28th,” said Christi. The image of a straight-as-a-string attempt at record speeds on the salt flats, with the finest suspension available, raced through my mind. Race Tech Suspension has multiple locations around the world. They refine the suspension on the finest bikes from rutted muddy dirt tracks to land speed racing monsters. The suspension will be the last thing on my mind when Robert, the flag-man cuts a perfect figure eight with the green starter’s flag. Nothing like a dream becoming reality. Easy does it, remember to breathe, then HAUL ASS.

Holy Shit in less than 10 days your 5-Ball Racing Team will relocate to Dr. Willie’s garage in Long Beach for an afternoon and evening of Balls out Dyno preparation for the following days (Sat and Sun) in San Jose, located North on I-5, a mere 5 hours 43 minutes, 359.22 flat ass, hot, dark miles with the odoriferous aroma of feed lots and diesel big rigs wafting through the air conditioning system.

Smells like shit to me, to a Rancher or a cowboy it might smell like money. One man’s crap is another man’s sandwich, famous quote from a professional shit house mechanic on a power house job in Washington years ago.

It’s late and my ass is draggin’ like a wagon with a flat tire, just thinking about the upcoming days until Christmas. Which reminds me.

The newest addition to the Wheeler clan, Leon VonMohr is very happy and healthy. Grand Kids make you think about things like living healthier and longer. Lots of shit to do and runnin’ out of highway, hang the fuk on sweetheart wherever you are today, keep your arms inside of the ride.

Thanks….With one helleva lot of help from my family and Industry friends….Thanks, Thanks, Thanks.

DELAWARE FREEDOM WARNING–
In Delaware if you refused a breathalyzer test during a pull over for DUI by law they could take your blood, of course I would refuse. Now under Missouri vs. McNeely they can no longer mandate that here. I saw the Alabama article earlier. Why would people allow that? Fuck me running!

In April, the court ruled (Missouri vs. McNeely) that police cannot force DUI suspects to surrender blood samples without a search warrant, saying that such drastic measures can only be invoked in emergency situations. State officials unsuccessfully argued that drunk driving cases present “exigent circumstances” which allow for the extraction of blood without a search warrant.

OFFICIAL BIKERNET PHILOSOPHER SPEAKS OUT–My Good is Unfolding Today.

What the mind can conceive and believe It will achieve– Napoleon Hill

Close to 100 hundred years ago Napoleon Hill wrote a book called Think and Grow Rich. The message throughout the book was conceive it, believe it and you will achieve it. A simple message with such great power.

My favorite quote was “what the mind can conceive and believe it will achieve.” Funny I have read the book many times over the last 30 years and it took me until about the third reading until I started to get the message and about two more times until I started to practice the message.

One of the tough things about the message is the responsibility to improve our Lives is up to us. I wish we could be like a computer and simply remove any viruses and bad programing and replace it with Right Thinking. Some of the behavior traits we practice began many years ago and have been hard to change. One of the Spiritual Exercises I do on a daily basis is to read a list of things I will be, do, and have. I add to this as I find new things and remove the accomplishments from the list. Clear definite goals repeated in our Minds helps manifest these from the invisible to the visible.

And So It Is

ANOTHER BIKERNET FREEDOM ALERT–The faces of more than 120 million people are in searchable photo databases that state officials assembled to prevent driver’s-license fraud but that increasingly are used by police to identify suspects, accomplices and even innocent bystanders in a wide range of criminal investigations.

The facial databases have grown rapidly in recent years and generally operate with few legal safeguards beyond the requirement that searches are conducted for “law enforcement purposes.”

Amid rising concern about the National Security Agency’s high-tech surveillance aimed at foreigners, it is these state-level facial-recognition programs that more typically involve American citizens.

REMOVE THE RUBBER SPIGOT MIKUNI CARB MOUNT–Wanted to know if you have tried one of these in past? It looks like a great way to get rid of the rubber spigot mount on the Mikuni.

Just curious if you had any info about them from experience.

Adapts HRS-42 Mikuni Carb to S&S Super ‘B’ & ‘E’ Manifold Precision machined bore, tapers from Mikuni outlet diameter to S&S manifold inlet size.
Substantial flow increase using S&S’s larger plenum intake manifold.

Ideal for stroker & big bore motors that require odd length intake manifolds.

S&S manifolds are available for all length cylinders.

Includes O-Rings & metric hardware.

I don’t believe I’ve tried one. I don’t have a problem with the rubber mount, and it would depend on the position of the carb.–Bandit

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER RESEARCH BY DR. WEIL–Three Ways to Prevent Blindness.

The leading cause of blindness in those over the age of 60 – affecting more than 13 million Americans – is macular degeneration. The health of the macula (an oval spot in the center of the retina that’s essential for central vision) depends on a very rich blood supply, and anything that interferes with circulation can cause damage to the macula and decrease its ability to function.

Unhealthy diet and lifestyle choices can reduce the supply of oxygen and vital nutrients to the eye, eventually leading to the death of cells in the retina and macula. To help prevent macular degeneration and other vision problems, consider the following:

1.Stop smoking. The nicotine in tobacco smoke can decrease blood supply by causing a narrowing of the blood vessels and a thickening of the blood. You should also avoid secondhand smoke.
2.Eat a diet low in sugar, flour and oxidized oils (such as oils used in deep-fat frying). These can contribute to plaque build-up along blood vessel walls, including those supplying the macula, which impedes blood flow.
3.Get enough antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E and lutein. These antioxidant compounds may help prevent plaque from sticking to the blood vessel walls, lessening the risk of damage to the tissue

DENNIS HOPPER AND STEVE MCQUEEN MOTORCYCLES?ADDED TO THE MECUM CELEBRITY ITEMS AUCTION– JULY 26 & 27
RARE AND VINTAGE MOTORCYCLES
JOIN A GROWING LIST OF COLLECTIBLE VEHICLES
SET TO HIT THE AUCTION BLOCK THIS SUMMER!

Mecum has announced the addition of two vintage, celebrity motorcycles to the upcoming Celebrity Items Auction taking place July 26-27 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. A 1968 Husqvarna 250T Commando previously owned by actor Dennis Hopper and a 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross previously owned and raced by actor Steve McQueen join a growing list of previously announced collectible vehicles including personal cars from Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and actress Bette Davis, alongside cars from films including the Green Hornet, and more! In addition, another unique piece previously owned by McQueen, a late 1890s Hendee & Nelson Silver King bicycle, will also be up for auction.

Dennis Hopper’s 1968 Husqvarna 250T Commando (Lot F310)is one of only 300 Commando’s ever produced and includes many special features: 21” front, single cylinder two-stroke engine, CEV speedometer, headlight, horn and tail light, leather tank bag and single muffler. An original DMV release of liability shows the Husqvarna was originally registered to Dennis Lee Hopper of Venice, California, and will be included in this sale. This is the first time ever a Hopper bike has been offered at auction and Mecum is honored to bringing it across the block.

Steve McQueen’s 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross (Lot F311) with its signature red and chrome gas tank patch, mud flap, Magura cables, and brake and clutch lever dust covers, is identical to the one McQueen famously rode shirtless on the cover of “Sports Illustrated” and in the whimsical beach scene outside of Camp Pendleton for “On Any Sunday.”

Lastly, McQueen’s personal bicycle, a late 1890s Hendee & Nelson Silver King (Lot F236)  will also make its way to the auction block. This unique piece pre-dates the Hendee & Nelson work bikers have come to know and love, as co-founders and partners of the famed Indian Motorcycle Company. The bicycle features solid rubber tires on wooden rims, a vintage leather seat, and a portion of 19th century lantern on the front handlebars. A painted plaque that reads “Steve McQueen” hangs from the cross bar. The bike comes with a letter of authenticity signed by McQueen’s widow Barbara Minty McQueen. ? ?

Previously announced vehicles headed to the auction block include Steve McQueen’s 1931 Harley Davidson VL 74 (1200 ccm) [Lot F238] and 1969 Chevrolet C/10 Baja Truck (Lot F239). Other collector cars to be featured include Elvis Presley’s personal 1972 Cadillac Custom Estate Wagon (Lot S210), Frank Sinatra’s personal 1989 Jaguar XJS (Lot S169), a George Barris Custom built 1957 Chevy Coupe for Ringo Starr (Lot S235), Bette Davis’ 1980 Ford Mustang (Lot S129), a 1965 Chrysler Imperial used in the 2011 film The Green Hornet (Lot S278), the 1973 Chevrolet El Camino used in the popular TV series My Name is Earl (Lot S369), a 2007 GMC Yukon featured in CSI: Miami (Lot S329) and the custom-made “Flintstone Family Car” from the 1994 feature film The Flintstones.

Mecum Auctions, the largest collector car auction house in the world, recently announced the Mecum Celebrity Items Auction: Celebrating the Legendary History of Hollywood, a two-day extravaganza at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA July 26-27, 2013.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON 110TH ALERT–Are you looking for lodging during the Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary?

By Tony Pan

Despite some rumors to the contrary, there are still many opportunities throughout Wisconsin with available housing or hotel rooms for visitors to the Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary, August 29-September 1, 2013. To help you find appropriate accomodations, the Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association has created a web page to assist you in finding and booking your stay in Wisconsin.

You can choose to book online or call the property for more information when you visit this web site. The Wisconsin Hotel and Lodging Association updates the information every week on Thursday with available housing opportunities and the listings are in desending order according to distance from Milwaukee, divided in 15 minute increments.

You can decide by looking at the listings and the map of properties available in Wisconsin how far you want to book away from the downtown Milwaukee area. Some may choose to locate further outside of the metro-Miwaukee area and those options are listed all the way up to 2 hours out (Green Bay, Wisconsin).

This tool is a great way to secure your lodging before the big show, but don’t wait too long because there is no guarantee how long these listings will remain available.

BIKERNET TRIKES READER COMMENT–TILTING REVERSE TRIKE TRT

http://www.bikernettrikes.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=11169

That is one ugly conversion. It ruins the traditional Harley-Davidson. In my opinion, if you are looking for a try then join us on a Can Am Roadster.

I have ridden Harleys for 30 years and moved on to a Can Am for the stability and safety of the vehicle as have many Harley riders.

Most H-D riders will stay with the brand until they have had a chance to explore the Can Am brand. At that point either they will be hooked or will be to proud to move on.

OLD SCHOOL RIGID & SOFTAIL SOLO BAG MADE WITH OLD-WORLD QUALITY–In the land of big-ticket baggers and luxo-liners there is a lone solo bag manufacturer building bags the old-school way with hand-selected heavy-weight leather, hot-forged alloy steel and turn-of-the-century construction techniques.

The individual components of the bag are cut using a die and hydraulic press, using the same heavy equipment right out of the 1900s. The individual pieces are secured in a jig and are stitched by American workers using American-made thread. The process provides consistent quality, fit and finish.

The latch is hot-forged, one of the oldest known metalworking processes. This method was selected because it delivers metal that is stronger than cast or machined metal parts. The Garage Leathers’ latch is load tested at 3,000 lbs. It is then brass or nickel-plated, which provides an antique-style finish and complements the warm tone of the black and brown leather.

“We hand-select top-grain leather that is finished with a light matte surface to construct our solo bags,” explained Robert Camardo, Garage Leathers’ Chief Leather Designer. “Each bag has a slightly weathered look with nickel and brass fasteners completing a satisfying antique or old-school influence. Our bags aren’t shiny or glossy as this signifies bags made with inferior leather quality.”

The standard left-side Garage Leathers’ Solo Bag comes with everything needed, including four leather straps that attach to a rigid frame without the need for brackets. For Softails, the bags strap directly to the swingarm. The firm provides a tin of leather dressing to keep the Solo Bag looking well-dressed.

“Our bags are built tough, and because of the combination of quality leather, meticulous stitching and solid design, we have not had a solo bag returned in 7 years of production,” explained Camardo.

BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING SEMINAR–A guy brings his best buddy home for dinner. His wife screams, “You asshole! My hair & makeup aren’t done, the house is a mess, the dishes aren’t done, I’m still in my pajamas and I can’t be bothered with cooking tonight! Why the f***k did you bring him home?”

“Cause he’s thinking of getting married…”

POPE FRANCIS BLESSES HARLEY–
In case you’ve missed it, Pope Francis blessed thousands of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and their riders as he rode through the crowd in Vatican City. Harley-Davidson fans from all over the world rode to the Vatican as part of the European leg of Harley-Davidson’s 110th Anniversary celebrations. The Pontiff had previously been given 2 Harley motorcycles and a leather jacket.

“Our promise to our customers is to offer them once-in-a-lifetime experiences that few other brands can fulfill,” said Mark-Hans Richer, Chief Marketing Officer, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “Having our customers treated to the blessing today fulfills that promise of epic adventures.”

During the Mass, Pope Francis thanked everyone participating in Harley-Davidson’s 110th Anniversary celebrations in Rome. The 4 day celebration closed Sunday night with a full program of music and entertainment at the Port of Ostia, Rome. The events were part of the a year-long series of global celebrations for Harley-Davidson’s 110th Anniversary. Celebrations were/will be held in 11 countries on 6 continents and culminate in the company’s hometown of Milwaukee during the last weekend in August.

ONE FINAL THOUGHT, New Bikernet Reader Comment!–PRE-FATHERS DAY THURSDAY NEWS FOR JUNE 13, 2013

Regarding Mary Anne Whitonis attack on loud pipes.

jackdoggies@yahoo.com

I love this,

So it’s okay for distracted drivers to run down motorcyclists. And you are telling me that your kids will never listen to loud music, they will never make noise, or scream and holler. You sound like you just want to control folks. Are you going to pass a law against sirens, trucks, jackhammers, loud movies, rock groups? This was once a free country.

What’s this business about 18 seconds? A motorcycle passing at 50 mph will be at it’s peak rate of sound to a child on a street corner for maybe a second or two. WTF. You better go after rock groups.

And yes, we have a Bikernet noise study that proves that loud saves lives.

Mary Anne, Mary Anne, Mary Anne…………

I only have a couple of things to add.

1. Your kids ears would be subject to much more damage by following a 18 wheeler for a period of time. I don’t have any facts to back that up, but it seems like something you would agree is logical.

2. No matter how loud I try to rev up my bright clothing the guy on the other side never see’s me.

3. You actually can hear me coming or going, north and south.

4. Pardon me for saying this, but I don’t find it hard to believe you don’t swallow what you read in our noise study. As a matter of fact, I doubt you’ve ever swallowed much of anything (see 1st Amendment).

THERE YOU HAVE IT—One fine Thursday News. Before the end of next week and the Born Free Rally. Michael Lichter is flying into town to cover it. We will barbecue at Sugar Bear’s shop the night before. And the week will fly past, as we kick around Sturgis Plans, Bonneville efforts, and motorcycle repairs.

We will post more techs, and a story about the history of All American Rider Products from Saddlemen, then my first Bonneville 2014 streamlined article will hit the airways. I’ve got a couple of killer features, and Quentin teased me with this Knucklehead. Is that perfect or what. Or is she perfect?

The action around here is flying and Ray is bouncing off the walls. We need our certified welder, then our 1928 Shovelhead will be back on the road. I need to have a conversation with Kyle, the Bikernet intern, who is riding it. A man to man discussion.

Two more potential sponsors are stepping up, one a leather manufacturer here in the states, and second Memphis Shades. They make all sorts of fairings and such. Here’s one example.

Don’t miss this FXR deal of the week for $7,000. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll hook you up.

Have a helluva weekend,

–Bandit
