VEGAS BIKEFEST BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for October 11, 2018

Hey,

It’s an exciting day in Paradise, and boy I wish the world or at least all Americans got that. I’m working on my Bikernet Freedom Manifesto, although Mark Buckner may have corrected me regarding the term, Manifesto.

Let’s hit the news. It’s a good one.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. Most recently the Smoke Out and Quick Throttle Magazine came on board.

AMD World Championship Won by Russian Builder Dmitry Golubchikov

Springing from the minds of the editors at American Motorcycle Dealer Magazine, the AMD custom bike shows are a crowd favorite, and the world championship held in Cologne, Germany, October 1-7, 2018, did not disappoint. A huge display of custom creations and motorcycle vendors took up 10 separate exhibition halls.

The AMD championships has partnered with the huge “INTERMOT Customized” show in Cologne and was sponsored by Avon Tyres, maker of motorcycle tires since 1911.

The AMD Cologne had 98 bikes competing for best custom. The innovative builders, representing 30 different countries, stretched the limits of design imagination with an international flair. The bikes were grouped by class: Freestyle, Modified Harley-Davidson, Retro Modified, Street Performance and Café Racer. Judging is by “peer group review,” meaning bikes are judged by the competitors themselves, joined by a few selected VIP judges and some past competitors.

Breaking down the classes, Freestyles are one-off, ground-up custom bikes on any chassis. Modified Harley-Davidsons are stock Evo or later frames with stock Evo engine. Retro Modifieds are any modified bike with any drivetrain and any chassis, manufactured before 1984. Café Racers are bikes inspired by the 1950/1960 road race bikes, having clip-on bars, rear-set foot controls, hump race seat and performance modifications.

The Street Performance class showcases bikes that improve performance, engineering, tuning and esthetics of the stock model.

The INTERMOT show with the AMD Avon World Championships attracted more than 150,000 visitors to the huge venue which included exhibitors of motorcycle parts and accessories and manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Kawasaki and BMW.

Italy had the most builders represented, with 21 bikes in competition. Germany had 16 bikes competing and Russia had seven. You can see more about this year’s competitors and their bikes, as well as a complete archive of past world championships since 2004 at www.amdchampionship.com.

To break down this year’s winners, Zillers Garage entry, “Insomnia,” won the freestyle class, as well as the overall World Champion title. It was built by upcoming sensation Dmitry Glubchikov, representing Russia.

Insomnia is an outstanding Yamaha SR 400.

The Modified Harley-Davidson class was taken by “Silver Storm” from the One Way Machine Company, Germany. It was a 2001 Softail Deuce built by Julian von Oheimb.

Retro Modified winner was VM Cycles’ entry, “VM 003-16,” a 1942 WLA SV 750 Flathead with a BSA military style drivetrain. This Italian entry was nearly all handmade with stainless steel and brass accessories.

Street Performance winner Paul Milbourn Customs of the United Kingdom submitted “Titanium V” for consideration, an 1100 cc Moto Guzzi.
Finally, the Café Racer class title was captured by FMW Motorcycles of Italy with an S&S Superstock 1968 Shovelhead.

Custom motorcycles have always been considered “an American thing,” born on the west coast. A natural progression of style and function evolving from the early “chopped” motorcycles that were stripped of unnecessary items to make them faster and easier to handle, the art of the motorcycle custom began to take roots.

Today, some of the finest examples of custom fabrication and genius come from all parts of Europe and Asia. The United States only had three entries in this year’s world championship, with the best finish being an eighth place in the freestyle class for Union Speed and Style’s “SourKraut,” a 1947 EL inspired by early factory race bikes.

Although top honors were won by Dmitry Glubchikov of Russia, Italy was well represented taking seventh place in the Freestyle class, a third in modified Harley, all three top places in the Retro class and a first and third place in Café Racer.

New in 2018, a “Public Choice” category was added and sponsored by motorcycle accessory distributor Detlev Louis. Show attendees were able to cast their vote for show favorite at the Detlev Louis booth or the AMD booth during the weeklong show.

TRUMP DIRECTS EPA to Allow Year-Round E-15 Gas Sales–Ahead of a scheduled visit to Iowa on Tuesday, President Donald Trump granted the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) authority to lift restrictions on higher blend of ethanol E-15 year-round.

By lifting the restriction, the EPA will begin the arduous task of creating and seeking public comment on the new regulations going forward.

The EPA anticipates the new rule making process will be completed by early June 2019 and would allow the sale of E-15 during summer of 2019. Currently, the sale of E-15 during the summer month’s is prohibited in some states due to the Clean Air Act.

“We want to get more fuel into the system,” Trump told reporters before boarding Marine One to travel to a rally in Council Bluffs, Iowa. “This is great for our farmers, and it’s a promise I made during the campaign, and as you know I keep my promises.”

The expansion of the Renewable Fuel Standard has resulted in higher content of ethanol-blended gasoline at gas stations across America. These higher blends, like E-15 and E-85, have not been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use in small engines like those in motorcycles. This is due to concerns for potential damage to fuel lines, injectors, seals, gaskets, and valve seats, as well as to carburetors. As a result, many motorcycle manufacturers now include statements in the manual that any warranty would be voided if E-15 or higher is used.

What does this mean for our motorcycles? Well, we already know that EPA guidance on E-15 fuel prohibits the use in your motorcycle along with a host of other small engines. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation believes that, until higher blends of ethanol can be approved for use by both the EPA and motorcycle manufactures, the federal government must guarantee the availability of fuel blends containing no more than 10 percent ethanol (E-10) at gas stations around the country. The MRF fully intends to submit comment when it becomes available in the new rule making process in the coming months.

So, what can we do right now? You may remember over the summer the MRF teamed up with representatives from the marine, motorcycling and outdoor power equipment on Capitol Hill in conjunction with Congressional Motorcycle and Boating Caucuses to discuss concerns over higher ethanol blends and lack of consumer education about the associated risks with ethanol. In conjunction with this event, we kicked off our support for H.R. 5855, the Consumer Protection and Fuel Transparency Act of 2018. Authored by Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA) and Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL), the legislation would require EPA to revise the labeling requirements at fuel pumps that dispense E-15 and conduct a consumer education about the risks of using it in vehicles and equipment that are prohibited from using E-15 (i.e. YOUR MOTORCYCLE).

Contact the MRF and ask your U.S. Representative to support H.R. 5855 and help protect consumers unknowingly using a fuel blend that will not only damage your motorcycle, and void your warranty but the EPA has decided is illegal to put in your motorcycle.

STORIES FROM THE OUTLAW PAST–
I got a short one for ya. About 1979 I think it was , I had got to know these guys down the street . We had met on a Kern River run . The wife and I were in bed asleep for awhile and about 2 in the morning there was a bang bang bang at the door.

In Torrance that is usually not a good thing if you are a biker. That usually means a cop raid or something worse. I answer the door in boxers and a High Standard .357 magnum behind my back.

The three-biker-brothers from down the street said “They seen the light on.”

I said, ” Maybe in your head you seen it on.”

They said, “what you got behind your back?”

I said, “Nothing. Let me go put on some pants.”

We partied till the sun came up . That is how I got to know Tex , Nazi and Chopper. The best guys a biker would want to know, but like all things, stuff happens and we all lost contact over the years. The names are acronyms to protect the innocent.

–Gearhead

PS. As matter of fact I sold that 357 hand revolver to Tex.

BONNEVILLE RUN NEWS--Hiro Koiso Bonneville Run

Hiro Koiso had set the fastest open bike record on the salt at 227.236mph in 2017. The JIMS / T-Man Performance 135 cubic inch Twin-Cam engine is coupled with C-1R ProCharger on a modified 2006 Harley-Davidson FXD-I based motorcycle that puts out over 400HP to the rear wheel.

This year, aero dynamic aid was put into place entering the team into the partially streamlined class.

Following the shake down passes form the first day, on 8/27/2018 Koiso clocked a blistering 259.951mph on the measured mile.

This is the fastest speed recorded in history on a sit-on Harley-Davidson motorcycle. GPS recording shows in excess of over 260mph. However, during the timed mile, the front tire began to fail.

Koiso was able to keep the bike upright, but extensive damages to the bike kept him from making a record return run. “We could only make a few runs at the BMST this year. But we learned some priceless information from them.

By knowing the cause of failure and what our equipment is capable of, we are going to go even faster next year. Our next goal will be a tribute to the H-D factory Streamliner efforts from 1970, which set a record at 265.492mph.

All things considered, we believe it is possible to hit the 270mph mark. We just need to work harder for it.” Koiso stated. We, at JIMS, are extremely proud to be a sponsor of Hiro Koiso Racing.

BANDIT’S CANTINA COMMENT–Just read the Sunday post about us getting older. I went to a swap meet yesterday put on by Prism Supply Company. I saw some old friends and yeah we have gotten older, the hair is either gone or turned white.

As I sat at our little set-up I thought “Man where has the time went?” I guess all of us think about that? I am going to be grandfather in January, never thought I would see this! It hit me like a ton of bricks, I am getting older! My grand child is going to be a girl!

This is going to be completely different fo me. I had three brothers, three sons, but I have no idea about little girls? I guess I will learn! I look at kids differently now, I guess because I am older and I think to myself what will they see in their life time?

Another part of getting older is losing friends and family. Last week I lost a good riding partner. it shook me pretty hard. In the last five years too many friends and family have left, this is life. I tell people as long as you live and think young you are never old and I think most readers here believe that. As we get older our memories make us whole.

Different subject, the Shovelhead is coming along, slow moving though with hurricanes and flooding. Hope to get some pics and report on the progress soon.

One thing I have decided is to take it all the way down and powder coat the frame. The old girl deserves it!

Until next time, RIDE AND STAY YOUNG!

NEWS FROM THE CLIMATE DEPOT–New York City Filled With Road Signs Flashing Climate Warnings, Including ‘Climate Denial Kills’

For the next month, pedestrians walking through New York City’s five boroughs will see flashing road signs warning those walking by of the alleged dangers of man-made global warming.

“Climate denial kills,” “Abolish Coal-Onialism,” “50,000,000 Climate Refugees” and “End climate injustice” are just some of the warnings passersby will see as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s effort to sound the alarm on global warming.

De Blasio’s office teamed up with the Climate Museum as part of a campaign called “Climate Signals” to put up road signs with warnings that were designed by artist Justin Brice Guariglia.

“When you see a traffic sign, your pulse quickens a little and you know you have to be on the alert for a changing condition that could affect your safety,” Climate Museum Director Miranda Massie told Yale Climate Connections on Wednesday.

The Climate Museum raised the money to put up the signs, so the climate advocacy campaign comes at no cost to the city, according to de Blasio’s office. (RELATED: Trump Officials Say There’s ‘A Major Problem’ With The UN’s Upcoming Climate Report, Leaked Comments Show)

“The signs were provided at no cost to the city, the Museum raised all the funds themselves,” de Blasio spokesman Seth Stein told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

De Blasio has made fighting global warming a centerpiece of his administration. The Democratic mayor embarked on a campaign to divest city pensions of fossil fuel assets earlier this year, and simultaneously filed suit against five major oil companies over global warming.

However, a federal judge tossed out New York City’s climate lawsuit in July. De Blasio brought on trial lawyers to handle the city’s suit against oil companies in exchange for a percent of any winnings from the case.

Media outlets also criticized de Blasio’s climate suit in light of his well-known travel habits. The mayor “regularly rides around town in an SUV,” a New York Times writer pointed out, and the New York Observer called de Blasio an “Imperial Hypocrite” for the fleet of SUVs he takes to the gym every week.

City officials appear to have worked closely with climate activists for the Climate Signals exhibit. “[T]en sites were picked by the Parks Department to specifically emphasize an area’s vulnerability to climate change,” Gothamist reported Tuesday.

Museum officials say the goal of the campaign is to use art to educate the public about global warming. At least one NASA climate scientist and experts from other fields will stand by road signs on Saturday to answer questions people have about global warming, according to reports.

“I think that that connection is a brilliant one to make: putting words about climate into a format that automatically triggers a heightened sense of alert and a need, urgently, to pay attention,” Massie said.

The Climate Museum is following an approach to global warming propaganda pushed by Yale Climate Connections in a 2015 article, according to the university group. Road signs will also display climate warnings in multiple languages.

ROUGH DRAFT: THE BIKERNET 2019 FREEDOM MANIFESTO–
Terrific. So think about this for a minute: I’m working on the contention that we are healthier, and safer than ever before in history. Our vehicles are amazing and we have conquered leaded fuels and the worst emissions. We should be free to do so many things because we’ve accomplished so much. We should be celebrating not punishing our fellow citizens for driving cars or smoking a cigarette. We should be free to modify anything we want.

What we really need to think about is our infrastructure and how to support a growing population.

I’ve been thinking about the all of this for a few months. I want to create a manifesto with the above as my premise. But I’m still struggling with how to present it. I’ll be interested in your thoughts. We may also need to kick around risk and how we don’t need zero anything. We need happy people who are getting strong and educated, not relying on government to do everything for them.

I don’t want to outlaw guns. I want everyone to know about them, train and be educated. I don’t want to outlaw cigarettes. I want people to be educated and aware of the risks and deal with them on their own (if you don’t like this bar find a smoke-free joint).

I don’t want there to be universal helmet laws, I want people to know all the info and make their own cholces. I don’t want to outlaw sodas but I want people to be educated and aware of the risks. I don’t want a prohibition against fossil fuels, I want people to be educated as to the real threats and the real polluters. I want folks to be educated as to the history of the earth. We wouldn’t have a earth without climate change. We wouldn’t have life on earth without climate change.

So, how can we present this in a cohesive fashion?

–Keith R. Ball

QUOTE OF THE WEEK–SUPPORT THE COUNTRY YOU LIVE IN—Or live in the country you support.

–Mark Lonsdale

THE GLOBAL TRUTH–Global Warming 101

“Global warming” refers to the global-average temperature increase that has been observed over the last one hundred years or more. But to many politicians and the public, the term carries the implication that mankind is responsible for that warming. This website describes evidence from my group’s government-funded research that suggests global warming is mostly natural, and that the climate system is quite insensitive to humanity’s greenhouse gas emissions and aerosol pollution.

Believe it or not, very little research has ever been funded to search for natural mechanisms of warming…it has simply been assumed that global warming is manmade. This assumption is rather easy for scientists since we do not have enough accurate global data for a long enough period of time to see whether there are natural warming mechanisms at work.

The United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) claims that the only way they can get their computerized climate models to produce the observed warming is with anthropogenic (human-caused) pollution. But they’re not going to find something if they don’t search for it. More than one scientist has asked me, “What else COULD it be?” Well, the answer to that takes a little digging… and as I show, one doesn’t have to dig very far.

But first let’s examine the basics of why so many scientists think global warming is manmade. Earth’s atmosphere contains natural greenhouse gases (mostly water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane) which act to keep the lower layers of the atmosphere warmer than they otherwise would be without those gases. Greenhouse gases trap infrared radiation — the radiant heat energy that the Earth naturally emits to outer space in response to solar heating. Mankind’s burning of fossil fuels (mostly coal, petroleum, and natural gas) releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and this is believed to be enhancing the Earth’s natural greenhouse effect. As of 2008, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was about 40% to 45% higher than it was before the start of the industrial revolution in the 1800’s.

It is interesting to note that, even though carbon dioxide is necessary for life on Earth to exist, there is precious little of it in Earth’s atmosphere. As of 2008, only 39 out of every 100,000 molecules of air were CO2, and it will take mankind’s CO2 emissions 5 more years to increase that number by 1, to 40.

The “Holy Grail”: Climate Sensitivity Figuring out how much past warming is due to mankind, and how much more we can expect in the future, depends upon something called “climate sensitivity”. This is the temperature response of the Earth to a given amount of ‘radiative forcing’, of which there are two kinds: a change in either the amount of sunlight absorbed by the Earth, or in the infrared energy the Earth emits to outer space.

The ‘consensus’ of opinion is that the Earth’s climate sensitivity is quite high, and so warming of about 0.25 deg. C to 0.5 deg. C (about 0.5 deg. F to 0.9 deg. F) every 10 years can be expected for as long as mankind continues to use fossil fuels as our primary source of energy. NASA’s James Hansen claims that climate sensitivity is very high, and that we have already put too much extra CO2 in the atmosphere. Presumably this is why he and Al Gore are campaigning for a moratorium on the construction of any more coal-fired power plants in the U.S.

You would think that we’d know the Earth’s ‘climate sensitivity’ by now, but it has been surprisingly difficult to determine. How atmospheric processes like clouds and precipitation systems respond to warming is critical, as they are either amplifying the warming, or reducing it. This website currently concentrates on the response of clouds to warming, an issue which I am now convinced the scientific community has totally misinterpreted when they have measured natural, year-to-year fluctuations in the climate system. As a result of that confusion, they have the mistaken belief that climate sensitivity is high, when in fact the satellite evidence suggests climate sensitivity is low.

The case for natural climate change I also present an analysis of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation which shows that most climate change might well be the result of….the climate system itself! Because small, chaotic fluctuations in atmospheric and oceanic circulation systems can cause small changes in global average cloudiness, this is all that is necessary to cause climate change. You don’t need the sun, or any other ‘external’ influence (although these are also possible…but for now I’ll let others work on that). It is simply what the climate system does. This is actually quite easy for meteorologists to believe, since we understand how complex weather processes are. Your local TV meteorologist is probably a closet ‘skeptic’ regarding mankind’s influence on climate.

Climate change — it happens, with or without our help.

NEWS FROM THE WEST WING–President Trump Declares State of Emergency in Florida Ahead of Hurricane Michael

President Donald J. Trump declared a state of emergency in Florida yesterday as the state prepares for Hurricane Michael to make landfall in the coming hours, Brett Samuels reports for The Hill.

“The emergency declaration, which is retroactive to Sunday, will provide additional federal assistance and resources to Florida in its preparation and recovery efforts,” Samuels writes. “The measure also includes additional debris removal and emergency protective assistance to several counties that are expected to be hardest hit by the storm, including Gulf, Hamilton, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison and Suwannee.”

In The Salt Lake Tribune, Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta and the U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams point out that the opioid crisis has been crippling for many Americans, ultimately keeping them out of the growing workforce. “President Trump has declared the opioid epidemic a national public health emergency, committing the full resources of his Administration to helping Americans impacted by opioid addiction,” they write.

“Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday he made ‘real progress’ in his latest meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, and said he believes the two countries are back on a path toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” Joel Gehrke reports in the Washington Examiner. At the White House, Secretary Pompeo told reporters that “while there’s still a long way to go and much work to do, we can now see a path to where we’ll achieve the ultimate goal, which is the full and final verified denuclearization of North Korea.”

In The Hill, Allen Gutierrez—Associate Administrator for the Office of Entrepreneurial Development at the Small Business Administration—writes that SBA Administrator Linda McMahon has been re-doubling efforts to support Hispanic entrepreneurs. “The Trump administration is committed to providing Hispanic entrepreneurs with not only the resources they need to succeed, but also the right policies. Hispanic Americans are better off economically today than they were before this administration’s policies were put in place.”

Tim Kenny puts on this event. It will be held at “The Place” in Ventucopa. You can reach Tim at (805) 646-9982 or thruxton71@hotmail.com. A note from Tim: This year we lost Bob Young, who manufactured immaculate replacement sheet metal for many vintage motorcycles and cars in his day, and rode with the bunch of hooligans in Griffith Park on Sunday Mornings. All on perfect British bikes…well, until the new stuff showed up…This is where I met him and many others, like Eddie Arnold, John Munoz…etc…

Old racers..taught me how to ride my Velocette…too bad the road is now closed up the backside to the top. Quite a racecourse. All the old boys would send us pups off the front, then they would slice through the pack like a hot knife. Good lessons. Not to mention the breakfast at Algemac’s before the ride. A real learning experience. I am honoring Bob at my event this year.

THE JUDDS TAKE ‘PICKLER & BEN’ ON A TOUR OF
COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM EXHIBIT
THE JUDDS: DREAM CHASERS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Judds return to national television October 12 as they provide “Pickler & Ben” an exclusive walk through of their exhibit, The Judds: Dream Chasers, at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum. Naomi and Wynonna provide hosts Kellie Pickler and Ben Aaron in-depth stories about The Judds’ rare artifacts, original manuscripts, unpublished photos and keepsake costumes on display.

Pickler & Ben
Friday, October 12

The Judds: Dream Chasers exhibit follows the popular duo from their mother-and-child beginnings, from (mother) Diana Judd and (daughter) Christina Ciminella to their chart-topping career peak as one of the most successful duos in country music. In the span of their 8-year career, The Judds earned 20 Top 10 hits, as well as five GRAMMY, nine CMA and seven ACM Awards.

The Judds brought a fresh acoustic sound to country music, with unmistakable harmonies surrounding Wynonna’s powerful lead vocals. They dominated the touring industry in the ’80s, have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, and blazed a trail for male and female artists who have followed them.

“Our lives are on display and it’s so surreal, because I’m still living the American Dream. I hope someone comes through the Hall of Fame, sees our humble beginnings and is inspired to pursue their dreams,” Wynonna shared.

“I think the exhibit is remarkable and reminds everyone to hold onto moments from their own life. We live in such a digital age, but report cards, handwritten notes and awards, even if it’s a sports trophy from school, are important to hold onto. It’s our history. Our lives were changed forever when we signed to RCA Records and we’re incredibly thankful for the Hall of Fame to tell our story through these items,” Naomi said.

The Judds are one of the most celebrated duos in country music history. They’ve earned dozens of industry awards and held a rarely interrupted stretch of 14 No.1 hits, while every single released to radio by RCA landed in the Billboard Top 10. These lifetime achievements are all honored with a new, extensive Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum exhibition. The Judds: Dream Chasers continues through July 14, 2019.

KIRSH Helmets Hires Motorcycle Industry Veteran Steve Piehl to Corporate Strategy Role–KIRSH Helmets today announced the hiring of former Harley-Davidson executive Steve Piehl to lead the startup company’s corporate strategy development.

The announcement comes shortly after the company was named a finalist in two major startup funding competitions and after winning the New York Center for Economic Growth’s (CEG) Technology Innovation Award.

After a 35-year career at Harley-Davidson Motor Company, motorcycle industry veteran Piehl joins KIRSH Helmets as Vice President of Corporate Strategy. His role will be focused on the company’s long-term strategy and helping the company deliver its aggressive plan for growth.

At Harley-Davidson, Piehl led teams in the marketing, communications, and customer experience departments. His assignments included the development and launch of the Harley Owners Group, the company’s million-member owners club, and he is a member of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum’s Hall of Fame.

“It’s an honor to have Steve bring his extensive experience to our team. He knows the motorcycle industry, he understands customers and he’s an experienced leader. Having him at KIRSH Helmets, along with our success in competing for funding and the Technology Innovation Award, positions us well for the future,” said Donnie DeVito, president of KIRSH Helmets. “This is an exciting time for our company.”

“KIRSH Helmets’ revolutionary technology, their aggressive business plan and their desire to be active leaders in the motorcycle industry is what brought me to the company. I’m excited to contribute to the successful launch of their first helmet and their growth plan for the future,” said Piehl.

The CEG’s Technology Innovation Award was earned for the KIRSH CHM-1 motorcycle helmet. It offers riders the most significant change in motorcycle helmet technology in decades, featuring a patented fluid-displacement liner inside a super-hardened shell. Unveiled in 2017, KIRSH Helmets will begin producing and shipping helmets late this year.

NEW FROM LOWBROW–Finned Aluminum Gas Caps Add Cool Factor To Late Model Harleys

Lowbrow Customs’ new Finned Gas Caps for Harley-Davidson motorcycles aim to make motorcycles cooler. Not in regards to reducing operating temperature, but in terms of style. Fins have been adopted over the years as a detail on custom vehicles of all sorts. This classic finned design will look at home on a chopper, cafe racer, or just as a unique accent piece on the motorcycle of your choosing.

The Finned Gas Cap from Lowbrow Customs replaces the boring stock gas cap (OEM #61272-92C) on your 1996 & later Harley-Davidson Big Twin or Sportster, as well as almost all aftermarket gas tanks that take a H-D thread-in style gas cap.

A useful feature of these vented, cast aluminum gas caps is the ratcheting mechanism, which allows you to tighten the cap and then rotate it back right to the spot you want it to stay, keeping the design in line with your bike.

The soft and supple gasket will ensure no gas will spill from your tank while out riding, no matter how tight the curves. Lowbrow Customs Finned Gas Caps retail for $39.95. For more information or to order please visit www.lowbrowcustoms.com/gascaps or call Lowbrow Customs toll-free at 1-855-456-9276.

NEW FROM SCOTT JACOB’S DEADWOOD STUDIO–Happy October!

I don’t know about you, but October is one of my FAVORITE months.

The leaves are changing, pumpkin flavored food is everywhere, pumpkin candles are finally ok to burn (I wish I could burn them year round), AND it’s my wedding anniversary!

Ok, enough about why I love October.

Now, I’d like to share why I think YOU will love October!

“Pirate’s Pinot”
Image Size: 19 x 27?
Edition Size: 25
Unframed Sale Price: $720 (was $1,200)

ABOUT THE PAINTING
“I created this painting for the 2010 High Seas Rally. For those that are unaware of the Rally, it’s held on a cruise ship over Halloween. I thought it was the perfect image and it’s unlike anything else I’ve done in my career.”

SOMETHING ABOUT THE BIKERNET MANIFESTO– Manifesto: a document wherein a person, government, or organization outlines their intentions, motivations, and/or views. These texts ask and attempt to answer the question: What do I believe? The word manifesto comes from Latin, and it connotes something which is very clear and conspicuous. While the length and content of a manifesto varies between each one, any well-composed manifesto will not only present a clear attack on a worldview, but also a practical means to manifest goals.

Using this definition as a baseline, you could start with a question (or several questions?), such as:

· Do you want to live in a world where new ideas and ingenuity are embraced, or one where government regulations restrict innovation?

Next, present the main intent of the manifesto in plain, concise speech.

a) Celebrating our achievements and understanding their importance, i.e. health, safety, environment, transportation

b) What are we doing to insure that we have the proper infrastructure in place to support a growing population?

c) An educated society is fully capable of making sound decisions without undue government oversight

This section should include the unifying points you’re trying to get across. For instance, you wrote, “We are healthier, and safer than ever before in history. Our vehicles are amazing and we have conquered lead fuels and the worst emissions. We should be free to do so many things because we’ve accomplished so much. We should be celebrating not punishing our fellow citizens for driving cars or smoking a cigarette. We should be free to modify anything we want.”

Attack the current worldview and provide source data to back up your argument.

a) Global warming isn’t what you’ve been told. Climate change is both natural and healthy for the earth.

b) The fallacy of ‘zero’

c) Are fossil fuels as bad for the earth as we’ve been told?

d) Why are we attacking virtual non-polluters such as motorcycles and lawn mowers, and doing so little about major pollution sources?

Offer practical means to manifest goals.

a) Adopt plans to address major polluters. Stop over-regulating statistically insignificant sources of pollution.

b) Continue to train and educate the public with the end goal of having people ever better suited to manage their own lives, rather than having their lives managed by government.

c) Embrace, don’t punish individuality and ingenuity.

Conclusion statement

· Highlight the main points of the manifesto while revisiting your main intent.

Hope this is a little more of what you had in mind.

ANOTHER STELLAR QUOTE: DON’T PRAY FOR AN EASY LIFE—But Pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.—from Mark Lonsdale

NEVER STOP OR GIVE UP—We will be working on our Manifesto next week with Mark’s help[. This weekend I will visit Paughco and pick up our Salt Torpedo.

I need to work on the shop tomorrow and start to reconfigure the shop for a Salt Torpedo home.

Check out this book on Amazon from the Scuz. I’ve been corresponding with him for about 40 years. He’s in prison, but got his book published. That must have been tough, but he got it done.

We are already planning for the Long Beach Show party, reception at the headquarters.
It’s going to get exciting, quick.
