All roads lead to Rome, I mean Hollister

All roads don’t lead to Hollister but it was the morning of July 4th and what few there were I knew would be crowded. An early start riding from Moss Landing over Hwy 152 got me a cup of coffee from Gilroy Motorcycle Center when they opened and a road free of traffic.

From Gilroy Motorcycle Center I’d avoid Hwy 101 and follow Uvas Canyon Road to House of Thunder. Owner Dan Stern would be leading a group of riders from there along the backroads to Hollister. Indian Larry would’ve approved of the bike Dan was riding. House of Thunder would later in the day be hosting a BBQ and band and in the evening a fireworks display.

Once in Hollister everyone was on their own…so why not have another cup of coffee courtesy of Indian Motorcycle’s ambassador Branscombe Richmond. Branscombe, star of the TV series RENEGADE, was at Hollister Power Sports and enjoying himself introducing customers to Indian’s new line of bikes.

We’d arrived in Hollister early enough to find parking on the main street and before the crowds and the heat came.

Shopping as fast as I could wasn’t fast enough, and by the time I returned there was gridlock. I escaped by riding through an alley and along the paved part next to the railroad tracks. All in all it was worth it. If you go just plan on getting there early and having a planned route getting out…I’ve heard the same advice concerning Sturgis.
