Hey,
It’s all interesting and changing quickly. Folks and whole governments have a tough time learning from their mistakes. From the beginning I’ve felt we were a struggling breed, outlaws generally are. I’m sure lots of guys in motorcycle rights felt the same.
Last of the freedom fighters is another way to put it. You’ll read some fascinating reports in this news. The fight continues and the brotherhood never stops expanding.
Let’s hit it.

THE BORN FREE SADDLEMEN REPORT– After another fun and successful year at Born Free, I can safely say Saddlemen seats were on the best bikes I saw all weekend!
Here are a few bikes and seats that stood out. The excitement of seeing the end result of what we all know is a lot of hours of hard work on these machines is always a sight to behold for me.
It’s such a pleasure working side by side with our customers and industry Brothers and Sisters on such rad projects.
Enjoy!

Elio chugging along
Elio Motors announced the addition of cruise control as standard equipment as a perfect example of how having the best folks in the business coming together can get something done. Elio engineering team were told that the reservation holders were clamoring for cruise control, and they went to work and made it happen. “This is a great example of the Elio way,” said Jeff Johnston, the VP of Engineering at Elio Motors. “The sales and marketing group put cruise control on the “bubble list,” which lead to the group talking about it. Having the right supplier partners in the room at the right time enabled us to make this happen in a cost-effective manner for our customers.”
There will be many advantages to having cruise control come standard in the Elio. For one, this time of year brings to mind summer road trips. With cruise control standard, Elio owners will be able to give their legs a well-deserved break on long hauls. Secondly, for our fans with a lead foot, cruise control will help save on traffic tickets. The Elio by itself is a head turner, so cruise control will be a good way to stay on the road instead of having to pull to the side of it.
Elio Motors explains that if you have an All-In, non-refundable reservation and you’d like to lock in your base price at $7,000, you need to go to www.eliomotors.com/lockin and fill out the brief form. Please make sure to use the email address you used to initially make the reservation.
If you do not wish to make the binding commitment and lock in the lower price, no action is necessary- your price is set at $7,300*.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPENS EARLY– A man is waiting for his wife to give birth. The doctor comes in and informs the dad that his son was born without a torso, arms or legs. The son is just a head!
But the dad loves his son anyway and raises him as well as he can, with love and compassion. After 21 years, the son is old enough for his first drink.
Dad takes him to the bar and tearfully tells his son he is proud of him. Dad orders up the biggest, strongest drink for his boy.
With all the bar patrons looking on curiously and the bartender shaking his head in disbelief, the boy takes his first sip of alcohol. Swoooop! A torso pops out!
The bar is dead silent; then bursts into a whoop of joy. The father, shocked, begs his son to drink again. The patrons chant “Take another drink”!
The bartender still shakes his head in dismay. Swoooop! Swoooop! Two arms pops out. The bar goes wild. The father, crying and wailing, begs his son to drink again. The patrons chant “Take another drink”!
The bartender ignores the whole affair. By now the boy is getting tipsy, and with his new hands he reaches down, grabs his drink and guzzles the last of it. Swoooop! Swoooop! Two legs pop out.
The bar is in chaos. The father falls to his knees and tearfully thanks God. The boy stands up on his new legs and stumbles to the left…. then to the right…. right through the front door, into the street, where a truck runs over him and kills him instantly. The bar falls silent. The father moans in grief.
The bartender sighs and says, “That boy should have quit while he was a head.”

Spicy food really does keep you cooler in the summer
As the weather turns warmer, you may feel the urge to reach for something cool to eat. But you’d be doing yourself a favor by swapping that frozen yogurt for some Buffalo wings.
Humans have long combatted the heat by eating spicy food. And while it may seem counterproductive to chow down on some salsa while baking in the sun, there’s sound evidence to suggest it will help you cool down.
The secret? Sweat. Chilis like cayenne, jalapeño, and habanero peppers get their heat from the chemical capsaicin, which acts as an irritant for certain animals—including humans. When you ingest capsaicin, it triggers a neural response from your body. As Yale professor Barry Green explained in Scientific American,
…spicy foods excite the receptors in the skin that normally respond to heat…The central nervous system reacts to whatever the sensory system tells it is going on. Therefore, the pattern of activity from pain and warm nerve fibers triggers both the sensations and the physical reactions of heat, including vasodilation, sweating, and flushing.
The “burn” you feel in your mouth from eating spicy food can be followed by a similar warming sensation across the rest of your body, causing you to sweat as you eat. Sweating is one of the primary methods the human body has to regulate its temperature—specifically, it’s the evaporation of sweat that removes heat from your body.
So as long as you stay hydrated while eating spicy food, the perspiration that comes from enjoying a good three-alarm chili will force your body to cool itself quickly and more efficiently.

NEWS FROM BAKER DRIVETRAIN REGARDING THE BIKERNET STURGIS PROJECT PANHEAD— We are building a quirky Panhead in a classic Kraft Tech rigid frame. It will have Softail fatbob tanks, an EVO 5-speed trans we found in the shop, you name it. The trans wasn’t working, but when I dug into the Transmission parts locker I found a Baker shift drum, but would it work.
I reached out to the Baker crew:
That drum is setup to work with 88-97 5 speeds. As long as the top cover you are using is a ‘99 or earlier and you have a normally open neutral switch it will work just fine right out of the box.’
Normally open Harley neutral switch part numbers:
33900-59 (single pole)
33904-00 (double pole)

TWIN POWER, BIKER’S CHOICE, PBI SPROCKETS FOR THE STURGIS PAN—I’m eliminating the belt pulley from the 5-Speed Softail transmission. So I needed a sprocket to fit the trans and align with the stock rear wheel, which came from Dale’s ’96 Badboy Softail.
I reached out to James at Twin Power and Biker’s Choice. I swear web site drive me nuts trying to find shit.
“We carry the PBI 277 series and the 281 series, see attached. I don’t like the 277 because it uses the chinsy lock screw rather than the plate. The 281 uses the early small diameter spacer and seal and has a .500 spline width.
You will probably do best with ¼” offset, their # 283. I like these because it uses the 94 and later spacer which takes the larger diameter seal and gives more spline engagement (.766)
Throw an aftermarket frame and wheel spacing in the mix and it’s a crap shoot!
I think you would be best contacting PBI directly, since they are in Oregon and you are in Cali. They are easy to deal with.
Let me know how you make out.

BIKERNET MOTORCYCLE SAFETY SEMINAR– My “aha!” moment about motorcycle safety
by Jackie Eldridge
Motorcycle Safety and Awareness month is over. By now, if you’re like me, you’re tired of reading the same five or ten safety tips from a myriad of sources.
Don’t get me wrong; the safety messaging and its vast promotion across the country are a large part of what we need to push motorcycle safety to the forefront the other 11 months of the year.
I have seen more safety and awareness articles, posters and social media posts than ever in my life. But I can’t help but think we are missing a huge piece of the puzzle: drivers of cars.
I arrived at this deduction by listening to car/truck drivers of all ages discuss motorcycles. While waiting for my car to be repaired, I used Lyft for three weeks. Drivers always asked what I did for a living and typically when I told them I worked for a motorcycle accident law firm, a conversation ensued. Here are a few excerpts from those conversations:
Dad biker childRiders are dangerous people
“Isn’t that dangerous? Aren’t you afraid of motorcycle gangs? Those motorcycle guys scare me. And the way they drive!” said the early twenty-something, male driver I’ll call Tommy. I was telling Tommy that’s a big misconception about motorcycle riders. I gave him the bigger picture of the freedom and joy a bike provides its rider, as well as the tight, meaningful camaraderie of motorcycle clubs that raise millions of dollars each year for wonderful causes. And of course, their rugged individuality.
After I shared this with him, he said, “Wait! Now I remember when I had to pull off the freeway because my trailer hitch was slipping. Before I got out of my car, a guy on a bike had stopped, fixed my hitch (I had the pin in wrong) and rode off with a wave and a smile. I guess they are a pretty nice group. I’ve always been a little frightened by them. It’s just the clothes. All that leather.”
I asked what he’d rather be wearing when his bike crashed…his Dockers and a polo or leathers? “Well, I guess, leather. Now it makes sense to me. I thought they were just trying to look tough.”
By the time I arrived at my destination, I had a new motorcycle advocate.
Riders weave and speed
One woman went on and on about how motorcycle riders weave in and out of traffic, just looking for trouble. She also mentioned that they speed ALL THE TIME! “No wonder they get in accidents!”
It was senseless for me to try to explain to her that what appeared to be weaving to her was actually defensive driving. And speeding? Motorcycles typically can ride closer to the speed limit when cars are slowed down or stopped in traffic, often seeming like speeding.
It was this woman who gave me the aha moment. Here’s the disconnect in motorcycle safety:
Motorcycle riders know what it’s like to drive a car and what the rules are for both modes of transportation.
Aha moment indeed. Safety and awareness advocates are doing everything right, with the exception of educating drivers of cars (beyond two questions on the driver license exam), who remain the number one cause of motorcycle accidents and fatalities.
To reduce the number of motorcycle accidents and fatalities, we have to rethink the way drivers of cars are educated. When a 16-year-old earns a new driver license, the test needs to include a section on motorcycle safety. Not just a video reinforcing look twice; it needs to be a type of training where the potential new driver can experience the road from the eyes of a rider. A simulation or training videos, even a video game. Gaining an understanding of how and why motorcyclists drive the way they do could very well be the missing link for reducing motorcycle accidents and fatalities.
AMF has a program called Commitment to Safety, Family and Friends that drivers, new or seasoned, read, initial and sign to indicate their commitment to safety of the road. It’s a start, but only as effective as the commitment behind the signature.
Another thought is car manufacturers and motorcycle makers joining forces to place technology on the bikes that would alert drivers of cars that a motorcycle was nearby. With all the strides in technology, this should be an easy fix. The only problem is retrofitting older cars and bikes—a project for an aftermarket developer, perhaps.
The unfortunate part of my aha moment is that most decisions to change law or systems is based on numbers. In the US, the annual estimate of motorcycle fatalities is 5,000, while the total of motorcycle accidents hovers near 90,000.
Contact your state representative or congressman to discuss a change in the licensing of drivers in your state. It will take time and tenacity but it can be done. If it’s numbers they want, let’s get out in droves to change the future of motorcycle safety and awareness in the US. Think about the lives you might save.
Update. This just in:
Bosch Mobility Solutions has announced a prototype vehicle-to-vehicle communication system that it describe as a “digital protection shield.” The company predicts it could prevent one-third of all motorcycle accidents.
Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) is a technology that allows vehicles to communicate important data to each other. For example, every new Cadillac CTS sedan is equipped with V2V; as a result, each one can talk to other CTS sedans within a radius of about 1,000 feet. When one car comes across a hazard that requires hard braking, it can communicate that information to other cars, so the driver knows about it before they see it.
Here’s a video demonstrating how it works. Wow! Very exciting for motorcycle safety enthusiasts such as Law Tigers!

NEW 2017 Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame Inductee– Peter Fonda
Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame announces the “Easy Rider” himself, Peter Fonda, as inductee into the 2017 class.
Peter Fonda, an American actor who started his acting career in the 60’s, is an icon of the counterculture of that time. In 1968, Fonda produced, co-wrote and starred in Easy Rider, which was his breakthrough role.
Easy Rider is about two long-haired bikers traveling through the southwest and southern United States where they encounter intolerance and violence. Fonda played “Captain America,” a charismatic, iconic man whose motorcycle jacket bore a large American flag across the back.
“When you think of motorcycle legends, Peter Fonda always comes to mind. Easy Rider allowed not just motorcycle riders but people from all over to relate to the “search for freedom”. It is an honor for us to have Peter Fonda inducted into the 2017 Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame. He has been such an influence in the motorcycle culture”, states Mindi Cherry, Vice President and Show Manager of Las Vegas BikeFest.
Fonda has continued his acting career throughout the decades in films such as Ulee’s Gold, where he was nominated for Best Lead Actor.
“I’m very honored to be inducted into the 2017 Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame. This couldn’t come at a better time with the 50th Anniversary of Easy Rider coming up”, says Fonda.
Las Vegas BikeFest, in partnership with Branscombe Richmond, launched the Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame at the 2016 rally. “The Hall of Fame is designed to honor the iconic ambassadors, influential heroes and people who put their interests above and beyond for the motorcycle community.
This honor celebrates, illuminates and preserves the rich tradition of motorcycling in America”, says Cherry and Richmond, curators of the Hall of Fame.
A ceremony to honor the inductees will be held on Friday, October 6 during the 17th Annual Las Vegas BikeFest held in Downtown Las Vegas.
The 17th annual Las Vegas BikeFest will be held October 5 – 8, 2017 in the heart of downtown Las Vegas on Fremont East.

THE MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS MOVEMENT REPORT– I continue to be amazed, and impressed, at how effective the motorcyclists’ rights movement has been, and remains. This is even more noteworthy when you consider the limited resources and limited numbers.
Depending on what source you use, there are about 8 and half million motorcycles registered in the United States. If you compare that to how many automobiles are registered, or how many smokers there are, we are a rather small number.
Yet drivers across the country were not able to fend off mandatory seatbelt laws, and smokers’ rights have eroded almost completely. I don’t mean anything disparaging about either of these groups, only demonstrating that we are much smaller in numbers, but have been quite successful in protecting our chosen lifestyle.
Now let’s take this a step further. Of those 8.5 million registered bikes, only a couple hundred thousand or so are actually actively involved in fighting for our freedom and the right to ride. That is certainly less than 5 percent. Those of you invested in the cause should take great pride in our victories and accomplishments.
Just imagine the impact we could have if we were able to motivate more of the folks that are able to enjoy the exhilaration of riding. We could definitely use some additional resources, but more concerning is the risk of dwindling numbers.
As bikers age, and regrettably die off, our membership numbers decline. This is much like the shrinking numbers of Veterans from WWII and Vietnam. We must actively search out and recruit new, younger riders to carry on the future battles of the motorcyclists. Believe me when I say, there are those out there who would rather that motorcycles be relegated to museums and racetracks and no longer be a
part of the traffic mix on public roadways. Many don’t even want them on racetracks.

LEGENDARY SOUL MAN SAM MOORE JOINS THE BLUES BROTHERS FOR SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMANCE ON PBS’ A CAPITOL FOURTH, AMERICA’S NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION, LIVE FROM THE U.S. CAPITOL!—
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Grammy and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and Legendary Soul Man Sam Moore will join Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi of The Blues Brothers for a special guest performance on the 37th annual edition of PBS’ A CAPITOL FOURTH, broadcast live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Named one of the “Top 100 Greatest Singers of All Time” by Rolling Stone Magazine, Moore is best known as one half of the famed Grammy-winning R&B duo Sam & Dave.
Their monster hit “Soul Man” catapulted them up both the Pop and R&B Charts selling more than 10 million records worldwide. The Blues Brothers, who based their stage presence and personae on Sam & Dave, premiered their breakthrough, high-energy rendition of “Soul Man” during their national television debut in 1978 on Saturday Night Live.
“I couldn’t think of a more fitting way to honor the 50th anniversary of the release of my 1967 Grammy winning song ‘Soul Man’ than to be asked to perform it with the Blues Brothers on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol,” said Sam Moore, whose album An American Patriot is scheduled for release later this summer.
A CAPITOL FOURTH airs on PBS Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET before a concert audience of hundreds of thousands, millions more at home, as well as to our troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network. A LESSON FROM THE MOUNTAIN– Who has touched your Life?
Hi friends, it has been a long since I have written. Since New Years I have been meditating on a daily basis, so I have not written. A week ago, I lost someone very dear to me and felt the need to write for the first time in a long time.
Throughout our lives we have had people who have touched us positively and negatively. Today, might be a good day to think and be Grateful for those who were a blessing in our lives.
Last week my Uncle Hershey passed. When I heard about it I knew that I had to get on a plane and go to the funeral. Since then I have done a lot of soul searching about the people who have touched My life.
There have been people who have touched me positively and some negatively.
My Uncle was one who did it positively. He was always in my corner, he has been a little rough at times, but I don’t ever remember him ever saying anything to bring me down, he always made me feel special.
I always felt welcome when I was with him and his family. I believe that being in his presence inspired me to be a better father, husband, friend and person. I am so grateful that I have had him and his family in my life. As a kid, I remember spending a great part of my summer on his boat. I had so much fun hanging with him, he was the coolest.
I am a better person because of all the amazing people who have touched my life over the years. I am so Grateful for the lessons I learned from them.
Today’s Affirmation: As I begin the gift of today I Pause to reflect on the gifts I received from the people who have touched My Life. I Know that they have inspired me to be a better person. Some will never know how they affected me, because we met for a very short time or very long ago, but I am Grateful to All.
Today I say Thank You to all My Mentors for All the gifts you have given me. Thanks Uncle Hershey

OMG–The Future of Motorcycling
It’s ironic that I saw this article now. For the last week I have been preaching against self driving vehicles to all my friends and family. It’s kept me awake at nights recently as I fear what is coming in the very near future.
I see what they are doing to cars. First it was taking away our cd players, then adding driver assist features and automatic braking. I recognize it as a gradual transformation to an autonomous vehicle and it scares the hell out of me!
I enjoy driving and I see the writing on the wall. In ten years the steering wheel will be gone and our rights to drive will be stripped away completely.
As for motorcycles, I think creating a self driving cycle is a little farther off, but equally as scary. I agree completely with the article- I want the freedom to ride wherever I want.
I don’t want rider assist features made mandatory on my bike. I want to ride free as we all do now. I want it to last forever- or at least until the end of my lifetime.

California: Governor Brown Signs AB 103 and Anti-Gun Bills Pass Public Safety Committees
Today, June 27, Governor Brown signed the state budget along with budget trailer bills including AB 103. AB 103, the Public Safety omnibus budget trailer bill changes current law by significantly expanding the prohibiting categories for firearms to include persons who have a warrant for a felony or disqualifying misdemeanor.
Current law prohibits a person from owning, purchasing, receiving, possessing, or having under his/her custody or control a firearm upon conviction of a felony or for ten years upon conviction of a specified misdemeanor (29085 pc). AB 103’s drastic policy change will violate an individual’s right to due process as warrants can be issued without notice or hearing.
In addition AB 103 allows for additional money and a time for the Department of Justice to implement and allow for the registration of newly classified “assault weapons.” News of the Governor’s signature came shortly after the Office of Administrative Law Rejected the California Department of Justice’s assault weapon regulations.
Also today, the Assembly and Senate Public Safety Committees heard anti-gun bills SB 464, SB 497 and AB 424. All three bills passed by party-line votes and will be sent to the respective Appropriations Committees. Please use our TAKE ACTION button below to email members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee and urge them to OPPOSE SB 464 and SB 497 and the Senate Appropriations Committee to OPPOSE AB 424.
Moving to the Assembly Appropriations Committee:
Senate Bill 464, sponsored by Senator Jerry Hill (D-13) would further increase the mandatory storage and security requirements for licensed firearms dealers. California already has some of the strictest laws in the country regarding how dealers must store and secure firearms. This bill simply places more costs and mandates on law-abiding business owners.
Senate Bill 497, sponsored by Senator Anthony Portantino (D-25), would extend California’s one-handgun-a-month limitation to all guns. It is obvious this legislation is another attempt to place more barriers on those exercising their rights and does nothing to address the criminal misuse of firearms or firearm trafficking. Criminals who generally acquire their firearms through illicit means will continue to ignore California’s stringent laws including limitations on the number of firearms that can be acquired within a 30 day time period.
Moving to the Senate Appropriations Committee:
Assembly Bill 424, sponsored by Kevin McCarty (D-7), would remove the authority of a school district superintendent, his or her designee, or equivalent school authority to provide written permission for a person to possess a firearm within a school zone, absent very limited exceptions.

BIKERNET STAFF JUST BOUGHT A BOTTLE OF VANS GUN BLUING COMPOUND–
Whether you are touching up the barrel of your favorite shotgun or bluing an entire motorcycle frame, the following is a basic guideline to help ensure the best possible results.
Safety First:
Properly protect skin when using Van’s Instant Gun Blue. As with all chemicals, skin and eyes should be protected from potential exposure.
Preparing the Steel:
Steel should be in “finished condition” before bluing. This means smoothing out any pits, scratches or rust to your satisfaction. Bluing will not cover-up imperfections in the steel so taking time to properly prep your project is often the most important step.
For this process, using the least abrasive method necessary is always best. Steel wool and very fine sandpaper (600 – 1500 grit) are often preferred. Chemical methods for stripping steel can also be used. Pink Naval Jelly or simple white vinegar can be very effective methods of cleaning steel.
Degreasing and Cleaning:
Next, the steel must be degreased. Oils will block uniform penetration so they must be removed completely. Degrease using the methods and materials you believe will work best for the steel you are bluing. Acetone, denatured alcohol, and brake parts cleaner are effective chemicals for removing both synthetic and natural oils.
One product that we particularly like is OLD DEVIL Degreaser which is manufactured by our gun care partners at Frontier Products Company. You can find this degreaser at: www.frontierproductscompany.com.
Heat Helps:
The bluing process is often accelerated and intesified with the use of heat. On a molecular level, heat gets things moving! All things become more pliable and receptive to change when they are heated.
This science can be applied to bluing steel as well. Warm steel will take bluing faster and often deeper than cold steel.
It’s important to note that extreme heat is not necessary, and should not be used unless by a trained metal artisan or blacksmith.
Heating steel with a hair dryer or heat gun is sufficient to get all the desired benefits. Heated steel should not be so hot that in can’t be handled. If using a heat gun be mindful of non-metallic parts that could be damaged by heat such as wood, plastics and resins. Never heat Van’s Gun Blue. Heating the bluing itself could create vapor that may be harmful to breathe. Only heat the steel being blued.
Application:
Pour bluing intended for the project into a separate non-metalic container to prevent contamination with the unused portion. Apply Van’s Instant Gun Blue with a clean cloth. Old, white, 100% cotton T-shirts cut into small squares work great for application as do unused soft bristle tooth brushes, as they are relatively free from other chemicals.
Cotton balls, cotton swabs, and gun patches contain oils and are not recommended. When applying Van’s, work in small 2-3 inch sections wiping fresh Van’s continuously over the area until the desired color is reached. Continue this process while blending with the previously blued sections. Dipping: If you decide to dip your project, create a non-metalic container that is just big enough for your project as this will minimize the amount of bluing needed. For example, a capped piece of PVC is often perfect for bluing barrels (see photo).
IMG_6042.JPG
Tech Tip: Test your container with plain water. Doing a practice run with water will show you exactly how much Van’s will be required for the job and also gives you a chance to perfect your technique.
Polish and Protect:
When application is complete, the piece should be dried thoroughly. This can be done with a clean cloth or with direct heat from a hairdryer or heat gun. At this point in the process the finish will appear very dull. Next, buff the steel with #0000 steel wool. This will bring a luster to the blued area and further blend the blued project. When the desired finish is attained, it is important to stop the oxidation process. Van’s can be neutralized with water or oil depending on the project being blued. Once neutralized, the blued piece should be treated and protected like any raw steel. Firearms are most often protected with quality gun oil or gun wax while other metal projects may call for a lacquer or clear coat.
For protecting your firearm, Frontier Products Formula 15 Gunwax is an excellent choice! Find Formula 15 Gunwax at: www.frontierproductscompany.com
GOOD MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS NEWS FROM ALABAMA– A couple of victories this period: First, the passage of the
Alabama Act #2017-336, the Marshall James Walton Highway Safety Act, which creates the crime of homicide
by vehicle or vessel.
A person is now guilty of homicide by vehicle or vessel if the person causes the death of another person while knowingly engaged in the violation of any state law or municipal ordinance applying to the operation or use of a vehicle, a vessel, or to the regulation of
traffic or boating, if the violation is the proximate cause of death. This bill provides criminal penalties.
Naturally, we wholeheartedly supported this bill.
We also attended the sentencing hearing for the man who hit and killed one of our life members on Memorial Day last year. The presiding judge, The Honorable Johnny Hardwick, sent him into the Alabama Correctional System for ten years.
Judge Hardwick let us speak at the hearing, and listened attentively and respectfully to what we had to say. We were appalled that all he was being sentenced for was leaving the scene and not manslaughter, but we were elated to see the man who caused the accident being taken off the streets for several years.
We did what Dixie ABATE does, and that was to support our member’s family in a time of need.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS STILL OPEN EVEN AFTER THAT LAST JOKE– This guy goes into a bar, orders up a beer, and notices that the patrons are holding slips of paper with numbers written on them, and periodically numbers are being called over the p.a. system.
Curiously, the guy asks the Bartender “What’s going on”?
So the Bartender breaks it down saying “it’s simple, you order a drink you get a Number “If we call your number, you get to go in the back and get laid!”
The guy says “I don’t believe it, it sounds like bullshit to me”!
Some drunk guy sitting a few stools down, interrupts, “It’s not bullshit, My wife’s number has been called 3 times in the last 20 minutes!

SMOKE OUT 18 (SO18) — wrapped up at the end of June with entertaining Chopper Jockeys from across the country with a ride-bike-bike show, kickass music, 1950’s style drag racing, camping, drift trike sliding & mini bike racing,
You see, SO 18 is about choppers. It is about builders, from professional builders to those bloody-knuckled guys (and gals) burning the midnight oil in an unheated shed to build a chopper they can call their own. Chops of all makes are featured, American, British, Metric, everything. The event is about riders, cross-town to cross-country in a rainstorm.
Rebel Son, The Koffin Kats and Sarah Shook and the Disarmers were the hit of the show. And with Freakshow Deluxe providing grotesque and amazing entertainment between the acts, it was an amazing adventure in site, sound and 2-wheel entertainment.
The weather was hot as hades and then it cooled off with a nice summer monsoon that cooled off the boys and girls on both days.

THE UNCLE GOES CAMPING–
Another long day in the wind. Miles rolled on across this great country with no where particular to go. You had cleared the calendar for this day. The bike ran sweet and strong. The wind was light and the sun long in the sky. Today was a day meant for riding. Country roads with tight curves, light traffic within the cities. Time would bring cold beers and salty pub food. It is one of the days that you will look back upon fondly, wishing that more days were like today.
As the sun sets in the western sky you’ve returned home to roost. You put the bike up in its stable for the night. Old Blue meets you as you enter the back yard. There the old lady sits by a fire curled up with a book extracting the last few rays of sun light. You throw a log or two onto the fire and settle down into your favorite deck chair.
You check the cooler. The old lady smiles having stocked it knowing you would be thirsty after a long day riding. Mick Jagger croons a Little Walter song from the speaker. Blue stretches before curling up on his old Mexican blanket that stays by the fire.
One by one the little solar lights twinkle to life as she finally puts down her book – that’s your cue to tell her about the day. Bobby was early for a change. Doug got laid off but has an interview Monday at the new factory that is going up on the outside of town.
You slip off your boots and socks and scrunch your toes into the soft grass. And so ends another day in paradise.

“GET OVER HERE, BABY AND GIVE YOUR UNCLE CLAY A HUG!!!”
Well, this was a first for me. I’ve lobbied in Washington for over ten years and have never received as warm an introduction like this. The warm welcome came from the
newly elected Congressman Clay Higgins from Louisiana.
He himself is a biker and former law enforcement officer and, thanks to the work by the folks in Louisiana, the newest champion in Washington for motorcycle rights.
I spent time with him and his staff during our annual Bikers Inside the
Beltway event on May 23rd. The event was a success. It was our most widely-attended BITB to date with 130 participants representing 32 states.
What’s more, is that we had a strong showing from our SMROs (the backbone of this organization), but also representatives from NCOM, MCs as well as independents that care about their right to ride.
Prior to lobbying, we met as a group to prepare for our meetings. The energy in the room was electric and the comradery was felt by everyone; first timers and veterans, republicans and democrats, young and not-so-young.
The common theme among us? We are bikers; we care about our motorcycles, our lifestyle and our right to ride free.
To this end, we made strides in our nation’s capital at the May BITB event. By the end of the week, I had emails from our congressional champions telling us they had already signed on to the RPM Act and Profiling Resolution as well as emails from other congressional offices wanting to know more about the aforementioned legislative measures.
What’s more, I had phone calls and emails from staffers that dropped by the
SMARTrainer event wanting to get involved and learn more about our advocacy objectives. For those that don’t know, this year, thanks to MRF A&E, we brought a SMARTrainer into the Capitol and held an event allowing Members of Congress and staff to “go for a ride.”
The event was fun, yet educational in what is otherwise a very buttoned up, suit and tie environment. (Down the hall there was another event about diabetes in the military. You tell me what was more fun!). Very well-deserved and special thank you goes to Ron Braaksma and Carol Downs and everyone at MRF A&E for bringing in the SMARTrainer, running the event and making the whole thing possible.
With the passion and devotion we have in this eclectic group, I don’t doubt for a second that 2018 will be bigger and better.

Laconia Roadhouse the Hub of Activity for 94th Anniversary of Historic Bike Rally
Thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts gathered in New Hampshire June 10–18 for the 94th Anniversary of the world’s oldest bike rally, Laconia Motorcycle Week®.
Legendary emcee Jack Schit presided over the festivities as master of ceremonies, setting up shop at the Laconia Roadhouse, where he introduced live music and oversaw all contests and special events.
“What a lineup,” said Richard Ray, co-owner of Faro Italian Grille and the Laconia Roadhouse. “People were rocking at the Roadhouse all week long.”
Featuring the best audio production quality during Laconia Motorcycle Week, the Laconia Roadhouse main stage hosted live music from major regional acts every day of the rally. Some of this year’s rockers included Southern Breeze, Annie Brobst Band, Hypercane, Herland Brothers, Josh Logan Band and the Boneshakerz.
Laconia Roadhouse was proud to welcome Indian Motorcycles to the rally this year. They were on property for the week with their full display of bikes, and Indian reps answered questions, talked bikes and joined in the fun.
The second We Love Laconia charity ride was a big success with over 100 riders and returning for the third year in a row, the Flaunt Girls—billed as “part burlesque, part cirque and all tease”—took to the Main Stage every night, dazzling the crowd with a racy, fun-filled 45-minute routine, including aerials and dance numbers. And the adult-themed entertainment continued with the Laconia Motorcycle Week world-famous wet T-shirt contest and mud wrestling bouts.
The Laconia Roadhouse was the center of activity for this storied rally, and, for the 94th time in as many years, rally goers enjoyed great food, great entertainment, and great fun after long days riding through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We look forward to seeing everyone at the 95th next year!

ROYAL ENFIELD ALERT–
Enfield Himalayan no longer in stock anywhere. It was a highly advertised launch of all terrain motorcycle which resulted in many consumer complaints, negative publicity and some recalls. Every part of the highly touted Himalayan had problems and complaints. Thee resale value of the current Himalayan is incredibly poor.
On the backdrop of BS4 emission norms becoming mandatory in the country from 1st April 2017, many manufacturers discontinued their ailing motorcycle models. However, there was one brand which had to do it just to make it a presentable reason – Royal Enfield for Himalayan.
Himalayan FI Launch & Availability
For all of you waiting for the fuel injected BS4 compliant Himalayan, here is an official update. As per a report at IndianAutosBlog, Royal Enfield’s president Rudratej Singh revealed that they will be coming out with the BS4 Himalayan (which will be fuel injected) ‘very soon‘. Here is what he said…
WE ARE STILL WORKING ON THE BSIV PROJECT. (FUEL INJECTED VERSION?, WE ASK) YES, YES, WE ARE GOING TO BE COMING OUT VERY SOON WITH THAT. OTHER THAN THAT WE ARE VERY, VERY DELIGHTED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HIMALAYAN. I AM VERY CONFIDENT ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE MOTORCYCLE.
We are hoping against hope that the 2017 Himalayan would be niggle-free.
