Wire Plus has been engineering state-of-the-art custom wiring harnesses, digital instrument panels and other innovative products for more than a decade. Rick Marler, President and founder of Wire Plus is an avid enthusiast himself, and has been riding his entire life. Marler knows what the environment can do to motorcycle components, especially electronics. “Our systems are built to survive the rugged environment of the Harley-Davidson and custom V-twin bikes,” says Marler.
The Classic Chromed version is probably the most recognized unit in the Wire Plus lineup
In black, the Classic is also a hit.
The systems Marler is referring to are recognizable from the elegant switch housings that you can see positioned on the seat post of many custom bikes these days. More than stylish add-ons, they are brimming with state-of-the-art technology, with their waterproof construction and vibration-resistant, solid-state breakers that never need replacing.
An up-close look at the underside of the wiring panel reveals its sealed construction. Nothing can get wet or vibrate out of whack because it’s dipped in resin.
Another key feature of the Wire Plus wiring systems is that they self diagnose. Riders currently building a custom bike and struggling with the task of hand wiring or fighting the service problems of a microprocessor-controlled system can now purchase a reliable, complete custom system that will save hours of install time
Here is an overview of what the 8 L.E.D.s visible on the control panel do:
Start Relay Output
Start Input +
Neutral or Clutch Input –
Compression release Breaker
Ignition Breaker
Accessory Breaker
Rear lights Breaker
Fronts lights Breaker
Seat Post-mounted wiring systems for use with stock style handlebar controls now include compression release, and integrated load sensing, auto-canceling, lighting control module to run rear turn signals as running lights, brake lights and turn signal.
Also, Wire Plus wiring systems are configured for Neutral Safety (Motorcycle will only start when transmission is in neutral), and also for Clutch Safety (Motorcycle will only start when the Clutch is dis-engaged). Of course before you begin, consider whether you are installing handlebar controls with a clutch switch to know when the clutch is disengaged, and if you are going to run a neutral switch. Wire Plus does not recommend you disable the neutral safety, however few aftermarket handlebars currently accommodate a clutch switch.
Take great care when handling the housing to avoid scratching the finish of the parts. A thread locker (blue) should be applied to all hardware for vibration resistance. The wiring harness should be installed on the bike (see schematic below for wiring breakouts).
At Wire Plus the focus is on the reliability of everything they manufacture. They stand behind their products and the customers who count on them to be the best, most reliable products in the industry. In addition, Wire Plus backs them with expert technical support.
