IT’S WILD ALREADY THURSDAY NEWS FOR January 9, 2014

Hey,

It’s already nuts and we’re just getting started, but it’s all good, if we can hold it together. The team just popped for a ’97 Bagger for the Bikernet Baggers Editor from Liftestyle Cycles, so the techs will be flying. My mission for this weekend is to finish the Rivera Headlight tech. Plus we have new travel features flying at us.

We are working on an ATK road test, building Wheeler Work Stations, and planning a photo shoot on our new line of 5-Ball leathers. Don’t even get me started. The shop dogs are pissed off that I haven’t bought another case of Mackerel. Let’s hit the news before I get in more trouble.

The Bikernet News is sponsored in part by Cycle Source and Easyriders Magazine. IronWorks magazine is no longer with us. Check the news.

QUICK, OPEN THE BAD JOKE LIBRARY–Jack decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. They loaded up Jack’s minivan and headed north.
After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. They pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night.

‘I realize it’s terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I’m recently widowed,’ she explained. ‘I’m afraid the neighbours will talk if I let you stay in my house.’

‘Don’t worry,’ Jack said.. ‘We’ll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we’ll be gone at first light.’

The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing.

But about nine months later, Jack got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow who had let them sleep in her barn on the ski weekend.

He dropped in on his friend Bob and asked, “Bob, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago?”

“Yes, I do.” Said Bob”

Did you, er, happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?”

“Well, um, yes!,” Bob said, a little embarrassed about being found out, I have to admit that I did..”

“And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?”

Bob’s face turned beet red and he said, “Yeah, look, I’m sorry,buddy.. I’m afraid I did. Why do you ask?”

“She just died and left me everything.”

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY FIRST PERIOD HISTORY LESSON–Have you ever wondered who first uttered the phrase “You Gotta Be Shittin Me?”

Well, it just so happens to have originated through the Father of Our country, way back when George Washington was crossing the Delaware river with his troops.

There were 33 (remember this number) in Washington ‘s boat. It was extremely dark and storming furiously and the water was tossing them about.

Finally, Washington grabbed Corporal Peters (remember this name) and stationed him at the front of the boat with a lantern. He ordered him to keep swinging it, so they could see where they were heading. Corporal Peters, through driving rain and cold, continued swinging the lantern back and forth, back and forth.

Then a big gust of wind and a wave hit and threw Corporal Peters and his lantern into the Delaware. Washington and his troops searched for nearly an hour trying to find Corporal Peters, but to no avail. All of them felt terrible, for the Corporal had been one of their favorites.

Sometime later, Washington and his troops landed on the other side, wet and totally exhausted. He rallied the troops and told them that they must go on.Another hour later, one of his men said, ‘General, I see lights ahead.’ They trudged toward the lights and came upon a huge house.

What they didn’t know was that this was a house of ill repute, hidden in the forest to serve all who came. General Washington pounded on the door, his men crowding around him. The door swung open, and much to his surprise stood a beautiful woman.

A huge smile came across her face, to see so many men standing there. Washington was the first to speak, ‘Madam, I am General George Washington and these are my men. We are tired, wet, exhausted, and desperately need warmth and comfort.’

Again, the Madam looked at all the men standing there, and with a broad smile on her face, said, ‘Well, General, you have come to the right place. We can surely give you warmth and comfort. How many men do you have?

‘Washington replied, ‘Well, Madam, there are 32 of us without Peters .’

And the Madam said, ‘You gotta be shittin me.’

IN AUSTRALIA IT NEVER ENDS–Biker ban at Queensland hotels extends to bottleshops

The Queensland governments repressive stance against anything remotely connected to motorcycle clubs and their members has moved to bottleshops, with shop staff told they must eject anyone wearing the “colours” of declared clubs.

Liquor chain BWS warned store managers on Friday they faced fines up to $11,000 for selling booze to bikers.

A Newman Government ban on bikers wearing “prohibited items” on licensed premises extended to bottleshops, staff were told.

“We are required by law to refuse service to minors, unduly intoxicated persons, disorderly persons and members of the public wearing prohibited club ‘colours’ or insignia,” a letter to staff says.

“This may impact the way we serve some of our customers, as it is now illegal for people to remain on licensed premises wearing their club ‘colours’ or insignia.”

Bottleshop staff – who often work alone – told local media they had concerns for their safety if they had to ask bikers to leave their stores.

The letter to BWS staff included images of the insignia used by all banned motorcycle clubs such as the Bandidos, Finks and Rebels.

Staff were also forwarded a Government pamphlet which warns: “Allowing persons wearing/carrying colours or insignia of a declared criminal organisation in these premises is illegal. Maximum penalty $11,000.”

The laws came into effect in October but BWS staff said they were only advised this week that bottle shops were included.

Law firm Hopgood Ganim warned clients banned items included club patches, insignia, names, logos and the symbol “1%” among other items. “We strongly urge licensees to immediately update their training procedures so that all staff are made aware of these new laws,” the firm’s website says.

THE BENEFITS OF UPHOLDING THE DHARMA—In Buddhism the five precepts are the equivalent of the commandments. They are: No Killing, Stealing, Lying, Sexual Misconduct, and Intoxication.

Here are the benefits:

If we do not take life but protect it, we will naturally have health and long life. If we do not steal and instead practice giving, we will enjoy wealth and good standing. If we do not engage in sexual misconduct and instead respect the integrity of others, we will have a happy and a harmonious family. If we do not lie but praise others, we will gain a good reputation. If we do not drink and stay away from the temptations of drugs, we will naturally have good health and wisdom.

By upholding the Five Precepts, we can eliminate our suffering, afflictions, and fear in this lifetime, and gain the freedom, peace, harmony, and joy of body and mind–SIMPLE

IOWA JOYRIDE CREATES SECURITY BREACH–DES MOINES — Authorities say a man claimed he rode a baggage claim carousel at the Des Moines airport because of a dare.

Local police say the man created a security breach early Monday at Des Moines International Airport. He was apprehended a short time later. Witnesses told police the man stuck his head through the baggage doorway before he crouched down and rode the belt around the secure area. He then came back out the other side.

The 27-year-old man, who has not been identified, told police he rode the carousel on a dare and didn’t think it was a serious offense. He later apologized.

RIVERA PRIMO FOUR TO SIX-SPEED CONVERSION KIT, AMAZING
Bikernet.com calls it “New Blood for Swingarm Shovels.”

We call it amazing! This kit will transform your clunky, old, worn-out 4-speed swingarm Shovelhead into a sleek, wild, drivin’ machine sporting a 1990 & later drive train.

Our Conversion Kit replaces your taper shaft 4 speed with a brand new polished PowerDrive™ six speed close ratio splined shaft transmission made specifically for a swingarm frame. And that’s not all.

With the kit you get a brand spankin’ new Primo® Brute IV Extreme™ 3″ polished Open Belt Drive System, a beautiful Monster Torque™ 1.4 kw chrome & polished gear reduction starter, transmission mounting plate and hardware.

All this for around $3200 Bucks! This deal cannot be beat. Kit # 1071-0001 will get you into the race!

Check out the 1984 Low Rider that we converted into a six speed screamin’ machine.

AND THERE’S MORE

All these kits work with our new Mid Controls that are designed to bolt on to the Brute IV Extreme and Powerdrive transmission.

The Mid Controls are polished billet aluminum and includes our stylish master cylinder assembly. These Mid Controls are a bolt-on installation with all our 4 to 6 Conversion Kits using our Brute IV Extreme.

The Brute IV Extreme™ that is included in the 6 speed conversion kit is also bolt-in ready to accept a spin-on oil filter between the front and rear pulleys, a must for shovelhead owners that either have no filter or use the obsolete fiber filter that pretty much filters nothing!

So what do you end up with? A late model starter motor to replace the stock unit that was more trouble then it should have been, an open belt drive to replace the leaky chain drive primary, a new clutch that really works and gets rid of the old stud and spring thing, and finally an extra two gears for that highway driving you’ve been wanting to do with a spline shaft so you never, ever have to screw with that taper shaft and keyway again!!

BIKERNET PRISONER TURNS HIMSELF IN–KENTUCKY To warm up, man returns to cooler.

FRANKFORT — Just how cold is it in Kentucky? Apparently cold enough for an escaped prisoner to decide to turn himself in. Authorities say the inmate escaped from a minimum security facility in Lexington on Sunday.

As temperatures dropped into low single digits Monday, officials say the man walked into a motel and asked the clerk to call police.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts says 42-year-old Robert Vick of Hartford told the clerk he wanted to turn himself in and escape the arctic air.

Roberts says Vick was checked out by paramedics and returned to Blackburn Correctional Complex.

IF ONLY WE HAD KNOWN!!!

1. HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY?  (written by kids)

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff.
Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she
should keep the chips and dip coming.

— Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who
they’re going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find
out later who you’re stuck with.

— Kristen, age 10

2. WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?

Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by
then.

— Camille, age 10

3. HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?

You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
— Derrick, age 8

4. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?

Both don’t want any more kids.
— Lori, age 8

5. WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?

-Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
— Lynnette, age 8
(isn’t she a treasure)

-On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
— Martin, age 10

6. WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?

-When they’re rich.
— Pam, age 7

-The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn’t want to mess with that.
– – Curt, age 7

-The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It’s the right thing to do.
– – Howard, age 8

7. IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?

It’s better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
— Anita, age 9 (bless you child )

8. HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN’T GET MARRIED?

There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn’t there?
— Kelvin, age 8

And the #1 Favorite is…….

Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a dump truck.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT NEW SEMESTER VOCABULARY LESSON OF THE DAY–skosh skohsh, noun: Slang. a bit; a jot: We need just a skosh more room.

The pack’s momentum had nailed me facedown cause a pebble under my toe had rolled, but it wouldn’t’ve if I’d been a skosh more coherent.

— John Barnes, The Sky So Big and Black, 2002

Except there’s just the barest crook to his version, showing he knows just a skosh more than she did. And probably wishes he didn’t.

— Ken Kesey, Sometimes a Great Notion, 1962

Skosh entered English in the 1950s from the Japanese term sukoshi which meant “a little bit.”

IRONWORKS MAGAZINE SHUT DOWN BY HATTON BROWN PUBLISHING–Exclusive Announcement: Back to our Roots

Over the eons, smarter people than this motley band of moto-journalists have noted this adage: everything changes. The change in this case is just in name, not in substance.

The editors of IronWorks Magazine are proud to announce a new title that’s really an old title: Iron Trader News. This was the name that founding editor Dennis Stemp gave our original publication back in 1989 and it’s the name that started it all. Iron Trader News was the springboard for IronWorks, a biker magazine in a classy package that insisted on quality images, spunky layout, reliable information and concise, intelligent writing. As we wrap up IronWorks after 24 years, we salute those pages that brought respect to biker rags at large and produced the industry wide identity of an “IronWorks Bike.

We can’t turn back the clock, but we can go back to pursuing motorcycle riding and wrenching the way we did then: with spirit, instinct, drive, intent, and authentic passion – no holds barred. We’re jumping back in with no corporation to kowtow to, no newsstand to tell us where we can and can’t be sold, no limit on space. Just original voices bringing the best in biking: by riders and for riders, retaining the level of excellence that you, our readers, have come to appreciate and expect.

First up is the ITN Facebook page (like us now!) then the website and blog. We will follow with a full-fledged digital magazine at a totally retro subscription price, especially considering the superior quality of its unique content. With your interest and support, subscriptions to the print version of Iron Trader News won’t be far behind.

We’re just now getting rolling with Iron Trader News so we’ll ask your patience as we get some meat on the bones of the title. But before long, look for tasty blue plate specials and offerings of the gourmet sort moving forward – and plenty of eye candy, too. Iron Trader News: all you expect, plus plenty you don’t.

UNCLE MONKEY DELIVERS THE WEATHER REPORT–As the local thermometer dips below -56 I can’t help but think of warm places. At that temperature even winter sports and recreation grinds to a halt. Not many people hit the snowmobile trails or the slopes at that temperature.

It is all about survival. The slightest mistake could mean life or death. While I think nothing of riding in the summer without a helmet and in blue jeans and a muscle shirt trips outside this week meant every part of skin is covered.

I watch the newscasts for across North America amused at the extreme cold they are dealing with. I think about taunting my new neighbors from Ireland by asking if they want to go out for ice cream or if I could at least bring them a Slurpee back on my next run. Poor souls. I haven’t seen them since the mercury dropped below freezing back in October.

I have friends who scold me for not liking winter. Warm sweaters, warm cups of cocoa by a roaring fire, yes life would be perfect if that’s all winter was. Unfortunately life goes on as it always does. There is food to get, snow to be shovelled and jobs worked to pay the bills. I’ve done my share of days in –50 to –60 spending three hours in the howling wind unloading fuel. You can actually see the cold in the air.

Some of my fortunate friends have long scurried off to Mexico and Arizona to ride out the winter. They are easy to spot. They are the ones walking around in tank tops and shorts while the locals bundle up in another parka to keep the chill off.

I take solace in the fact that I at least attempted to break away from the cold last year when I tried to sell my house to find someplace warmer some place that the thermometer doesn’t drop to -56. I try to stay positive that this cold temperature means that somewhere someone is enjoying an uncommon heat wave. Stay warm, stay safe until open hiways and thundering motorcycles await us.

BIKERNET 5-Ball RACING WHEELER REPORT—

Here we go, 2014 is officially underway with a multitude of opportunities knocking on the dark stained hardwood door, loud and clear. Seems we may be on the rebound in the Motorcycle Industry.

After a very short week in Seattle with my family and my latest Grandson, Leon VonMohr Wheeler during Christmas and New Years flew into LAX last Friday evening, the Janitor/Editor/Bandit was waiting at the curb in a freshly scrubbed limo. After a dinner we Hauled Ass to Bikernet Interplanetary Headquarters tucked away in the Port Of Los Angeles. Perfect. Home one more time and ready to rock the world.

Our 5-Ball Racing Team Raycer is headed to Bob Morelands in San Marcos for component trouble-shooting, start-up and Dyno tuning. Never Give Up! Better then 10 months until the BUB Speed Trials on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Stay tuned!

A dream out of the past colliding with reality Monday afternoon in the Bikernet shop. Bandit eyeballs the progress while our resident welder, Dr. Feng lays a perfect bead on the frame work of our Wheeler Workstation. First one built since the late ‘90s. The Wheeler Workstation is one of the latest products in the ever growing Bikernet product line.

Tuesday afternoon rolled into the shop of Marc Susman at Colorado Customs discovering a short stack of impeccable, flat and parallel within .0005″ . Lyndall Racing Brakes, composite rotors designed for late model Harley-Davidsons.

After bolting a set of rotors on, add a pair of proprietary brake pads, and ride in style, handle easier and stop much quicker.

Seems our non-stop Bagger Editor, Richard Kranzler just scored a fine bagger from Lifestyle cycles. We’ll bolt on a set of Composite Rotors and brake pads provided by Paul Kittrell of Lyndall Racing Brakes, the one and only.

Christmas was the best. Hope your family is warm and healthy as we start 2014 off with a bang.

THE BIKERNET OFFICIAL PHILOSOPHER REACHES ENLIGHTENMENT–As we start this day may we pause and go into that Place within that knows only good, that is not waivered by outside appearances, that place that knows no fear, doubt, hate, lack or negativity. The place where Spirit’s Love gives us the guidance to overcome any challenge or obstacle. In Buddhism it’s called Nirvana.

Close your eyes (if you choose) and just be still, go back to that time when you were young, when you believed you could be, do, and have anything you want. We were all there at one time, just breath and feel that Power within you.

For some of us It has been a long time since we were there, believe me we all still have the place within. Feel Spirits Love and Guidance, Know that you are Divinely Protected, Supported and Supplied.

Today I know that I am One with All, that I am above any challenge or confusion. I have that within me that Guides, Guards, Supplies and Supports My Good thoughts. I am no longer caught up in the problems and Know that I am the solution. I Let go of any limiting thoughts or beliefs. I am grateful for the Place of Love, and Joy, and Faith right where I am. Today is My Day and I am Living It to the Fullest

WOMAN SENT HOME IN A SUITCASE–Thai found in suitcase at US border

NOGALES, Arizona – Authorities say a smuggling attempt at the US-Mexico border was thwarted when inspectors found a woman from Thailand inside a suitcase.

A Thai woman has been caught trying to sneak into the United States from Mexico while curled up inside a suitcase in a sport-utility vehicle at a border crossing in Nogales, Arizona, a U.S. border protection official said on Tuesday.

Customs and Border Protection agents discovered 48-year-old Pornkamol Mongkolsermsak while inspecting a vehicle entering the United States on Dec 30.

Ms Pornkamol, from Bangkok, was hidden under clothing in the large suitcase in the back of the vehicle driven by a 56-year-old Phoenix man, whose name was not released.

Customs and Border Protection spokesman Victor Brabble said Tuesday that Ms Pornkamol was being charged with re-entry after deportation.
Authorities did not immediately know if she has a lawyer yet.

THURSDAY BIKERNET GUN NUT REPORT–Republicans Pressing Reid to Delay the Anti-gun ObamaCare Mandate.

It’s what GOA has been calling for. We’ve been begging Republicans to use any and every bill that comes before the Senate and to offer a repeal or delay of the ObamaCare mandate as an amendment. And yesterday, Senator Mitch McConnell did just that.

McConnell proposed a Unanimous Consent agreement that would allow Obama’s unemployment insurance extension to move forward — if REID WOULD SIMPLY GUARANTEE A VOTE ON DELAYING THE ANTI-GUN OBAMACARE MANDATE.

As we alerted you yesterday, we have seen where the anti-gun ObamaCare mandate is leading — with HHS regulations to waive all federal privacy laws in order to allow psychiatrists to turn in gun owners to the FBI’s NICS system.

This could potentially affect millions of gun owners! And this is just one reason why Gun Owners of America has been opposing the ObamaCare mandate for several years.
So let’s review the bidding: 68% of Americans want to delay the anti-gun ObamaCare mandate. Only 55% want to extend unemployment insurance.

Also remember this: Republicans are not demanding that the ObamaCare mandate be delayed. They’re only asking for a vote. Not surprisingly, anti-gun crazies like Senators Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer are outraged. And six Republican defections gave them the 60 votes to overcome the filibuster and move the bill forward — though it still remains to be seen whether they can get 60 votes to shut out any amendments on the bill itself.

And, as we saw with April’s gun control votes, the ability to get 60 votes on the “motion to proceed” to a bill is not always the same as getting 60 votes to shut out amendments on the underlying legislation.

In other words, there is precedent where we have lost the initial “motion to proceed” vote but still won in the end.

But McConnell is right. Before Harry Reid came on the scene, senators had a right to offer amendments dealing with the key issues of the day. That Republicans have been forced to use this strategy is an indication of how ruthlessly partisan Harry Reid and Barack Obama have become.

NOTE: There are six Republican Senators who voted with Harry Reid to overcome the filibuster, thus weakening McConnell’s hand to force an anti-ObamaCare vote. They are Kelly Ayotte (NH), Dan Coats (IN), Sue Collins (ME), Dean Heller (NV), Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Rob Portman (OH).

ACTION: Call or Click here to email your senators. Have your wife and kids call your senators. Have your neighbors and church members call your senators. Have your dog call your senator. Tell them to oppose cloture on the unemployment bill until a vote is allowed on delaying the anti-gun ObamaCare mandate.

FIVE OTHER SIMPLE TRUTHS:
1. Money cannot buy happiness, but it’s more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than on a bicycle.
2. Forgive your enemy, but remember the asshole’s name.
3. If you help someone when they’re in trouble, they will remember you when they’re in trouble again.
4. Many people are alive only because it’s illegal to kill them.
5. Alcohol does not solve any problems, but then neither does milk.

Bonus Truth: Condoms don’t guarantee safe sex.

Pre-XMAS THURSDAY NEWS FOR Thursday, December 19, 2013

http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=11460

Been off the grid the last few weeks and am getting caught up on the “News”. Not meaning to sound negative, and I know they are advertising with you, but when I saw this “Which Motorcycle Phone Mount is Right for You?” I had to answer none. I don’t listen to music when I ride. I don’t use MapQuest, Google Maps or any type of GPS to get where I’m going. I might not get there as soon as others, but I enjoy my own route and meet some interesting folks.

Maybe it’s my age or just the way I grew up but for me there isn’t a place for phone mounts on a scoot. Turn it off and stick it in a pocket or bag so you’ll have it for emergencies.

It’s my connection with the great outdoors that keeps me where I can’t wait to hit the road. I know everyone’s different, but I’ll wait until my day is done to use my phone, usually to tell friends what a bitchin’ day I had in the wind.

NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON MUSEUM EXHIBIT VIEWS LIFE ON THE OPEN ROAD–Living Lost Photographs by Josh Kurpius opens Jan. 17

MILWAUKEE – Jan. 9, 2014 – The Harley-Davidson Museum opens Living Lost Photographs by Josh Kurpius on Jan. 17, its newest exhibit featuring more than 30 original works by custom bike builder, rider and photographer Josh Kurpius. Living Lost is a presentation of photographs taken during a series of road trips across the country on a chopped 1977 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The images give an honest, open look at the uninhibited lifestyle of a group of nomadic bikers out to explore the American panorama.

“Josh’s photos embody the freedom and independence that is the very essence of Harley-Davidson,” said Bill Davidson, vice president of the Harley-Davidson Museum. “His photographs give visitors a look into a world of exploration and camaraderie that only the open road can provide.”

From the stunning juxtaposition of a roaring Harley-Davidson next to a quiet countryside, to the uncensored look into the lives of a close group of friends, Kurpius captures the timeless enticement of a life lived on the road with his motorcycle. The photos not only depict the raw beauty of America, but the beauty of the off-moments that reveal themselves in serendipitous ways. The vintage machines Kurpius and his friends ride can only go so far without refueling or needing maintenance, and they often find themselves stopping in places barely noticeable if restricted to the confines of a car.

The bike Kurpius rode on these adventures, a chopped 1977 Harley-Davidson Ironhead Sportster nicknamed “The Locust,” is being displayed in the Museum lobby during a portion of the exhibit. The exhibit opening coincides with Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward Gallery Night. Visitors receive free admission on Jan. 17 from 5-9 p.m. Living Lost runs through May 18 on the bridge between the Museum and Archives buildings.

BIKERNET STAFFER OF THE WEEK– I’m Joe Jorgenson, the web guy for Bikernet. My team and I at Robintek, keep Bikernet’s content flowing and keep Bandit from going insane (for the most part).

We helped them launch a new design for Bikernet along with getting Bandit’s life work organized and indexed. It was one hell of a task, but we got it done! We also helped create the new sites of Bikernet Trikes, Bikernet Baggers and the Bikernet Blog with more stuff always on the way!

I can’t take all the credit though. My team at Robintek is incredible and does most of the actual work here. Check out our portfolio at Robintek.com and our great staff page.

We’ve been doing our thing at Robintek for just over 15 years now. In that time we’ve worked with over 500 companies doing everything from higher learning to motorcycle mags like this one, but no lawyers. We have some standards. We do website design, photography, print design, video production, branding, social media and just about anything else our client’s need us to do.

I live in Westerville Ohio with my wife and two children. My wife, Lisa, is amazing and is absolutely the love of my life. Everything I do, I do for her. My oldest child is Ella Grace. She’s 4 years old and is determined to be an animal doctor princess mommy when she grows up. Michael Gary is my son, 3 years old and named after his two grandfathers. He flip flops between wanting to be a fireman or a garbage man. If he finds a career that would have him driving a larger or louder vehicle I’m sure he’ll choose that.

After working in front of a computer all day I like to get into things that end with bloody knuckles, bruised shins and something tangible that I built. My best friend has his garage configured for vehicle repair and steel fabrication. I’m setting mine up for wood-working, with a paint booth. When you get the two of us together, and add in some spirits, there’s not much that we can’t build or break.

I hope you’ve enjoyed using the Bikernet site as much as I’ve enjoyed working on it for these last 5 years. If you have any ideas or comments send them my way! I’m webmaster@bikernet.com, unless you don’t like something on the site and want to complain, in that case my email is bandit@bikernet.com.

AUSTRALIAN BIKER TYRANNY–There are a couple more recent incidents to report from the ever more perfect People’s Democratic Tyranny of Queensland in Australia.

The first is that Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and his running dog, Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie, have begun implementing additional tough new regulations intended to make tattoo artists who are alleged to have ties to one of Queensland’s 25 banned motorcycle clubs unemployable. All tattoo artists in the state must now be palm printed, finger printed and licensed.

“When you apply for a license, you will also need to provide details about your close associates, such as your staff, business partners and landlord,” explained Queensland’s Fair Trading Executive Director Brian Bauer. “Your finger and palm prints will be collected as part of the process to determine if you are suitable to hold a license.”

Licenses will cost $1150 (Australian) for one year or $1990 for three years. The Australian dollar is currently worth about 90 cents. Starting July 1, unlicensed tattoo artists face fines of $55,000 for a first offense and $110,000 for a second offense. Second offenders can also be sentenced to a year and half in prison.

Ice Cream Police

Meanwhile, five men were arrested at a Queensland resort Sunday for attempting to buy ice-cream together. The five men are from another Australian state named Victoria. The five were childhood friends on vacation together. They were not wearing cuts or other indicia of club membership and had left their motorcycles at home. The men all face sentences of between six months and three years in jail. Police allege three of the men are members of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club and the other two are members of the Comancheros Motorcycle Club.

Bill Potts, a defense attorney representing two of the men, told the Australian, “The police found no drugs, no guns, no evidence of any criminality. Their offence is walking down the street and looking for ice creams. It is now illegal to be friends in a public place looking for an ice cream in Surfers Paradise.”

Since the new laws went into effect last October, 485 people have been arrested for belonging to or associating with the banned clubs.

McCarthyism

Last Friday, police officials told the Brisbane Courier-Mail they intend to start investigating public officials and employees to determine if any of them have any friends who belong to motorcycle clubs. Police told the paper that the “biker trade” generates $3 billion in criminal revenues in Queensland every year.

“It’s unlike a novel you might read or CSI. You don’t get a result at the end of the episode,” Deputy Police Commissioner Brett Pointing said. “These (criminal) networks are sophisticated and they are not going to give up easily. We are very much here for the long term. This is something that has to be sustained well into the future.”

Ken Levy, the head of Queensland’s Crime and Misconduct Commission, told the Courier-Mail “You might get bikies who have a girlfriend or a boyfriend or somebody else …who might be able to use official information to assist a criminal motorcycle gang in some respect. Transport is the usual one people always think of but it could be any government department at all. That public sector type grouping will be one of those things that we will have the crosshairs on. There are many aspects where there could be conflicts of interest. Certainly as far as bikies go any possible avenues will be looked at.”

MATTERN TO TAKE ON THE 2014 CANNONBALL– for Colon Cancer Alliance and Antique Motorcycle Foundation

A few years ago, Dottie Mattern set a motorcycle speed record of 94.7 mph at the Maxton Mile. If that doesn’t sound so fast, consider that at the time she was a 62-year-old grandmother (five times over) and riding a 1937 Indian Scout.

Mattern has never avoided a challenge, and now she is preparing to take on the 2014 Cannonball Ride aboard a 1936 Indian Sport Scout. The purpose of her ride is two-fold: to raise funds for the Antique Motorcycle Foundation and the Colon Cancer Alliance, and to celebrate her 70th birthday!

Dottie has ridden motorcycles since her college days at the University of Maryland. Her current ride is a 2006 Suzuki V Strom, but she still has an abiding interest in antique motorcycles with her favorite brand being Indian.

In 1979, Dottie joined the Antique Motorcycle Club of America, served on its board in the position of National Secretary for 15 years, and received the high distinction of being named an AMCA Honorary Member in 1998. Today she is on the board of the non-profit Antique Motorcycle Foundation.

Dottie is a colon cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with the disease in September, 2001. Colon cancer is in the top three cancer killers, yet is one of the most survivable cancers provided it is diagnosed early. She explains, “My brother died from colon cancer that had spread because it was not diagnosed early. The Colon Cancer Alliance is dedicated to education, early detection, funding research, and providing the highest quality patient support services. Hopefully, my riding the Cannonball will help create an awareness of the importance of early screening and the work of the Colon Cancer Alliance.”

The Antique Motorcycle Foundation is helping organize Dottie’s campaign, but all expenses for the actual ride will be paid by Mattern and sponsors, not from AMF funds. AMF President Emeritus Dennis Craig has volunteered to prepare her 1936 Scout on a pro bono basis.

At 70, Dottie will be the oldest woman ever to ride the Cannonball. She says with a smile, “It will be a very physically and emotionally challenging endurance ride for this old gal. My goal is to raise $70,000 by completing the 4,100 mile trip. In addition to a good motorcycle and crew, I am going to need lots of prayers and good wishes.”

For more information and to support Dottie’s charitable effort, go to www.ridedottieride.org. Money raised will be divided equally between the Antique Motorcycle Foundation and the Colon Cancer Alliance. Your donations are tax-deductible.

FOREWARNINGS GONE UNHEEDED–Within the magazine HOG Tales, edition July/August 2000; there is an article written by then Harley Davidson Vice President Tim Hoelter.

In 1998 our government signed a treaty with the United Nations; Global Harmonization of Motorized Vehicles based on European Standards. Mr. Hoelter’s article and forewarnings are becoming reality. Quote: “Harmonization-“global” standards on vehicle design and test procedures-is probably the single biggest issue facing manufacturers today”.

In his article he states at one time California was once attempting to impose emission standards that no known technology would enable manufactures to meet. He goes on to discuss motorcycle Air Bags; Rear Brake Light Roll Bar; Hot Muffler protection; High Visibility Paint; Leg Protectors and Air Bag Triggers. Mr. Hoelter worked with the AMA to produce a motorcycle, with those additions, for all to see; “The Motorcycle of Your Nightmares;” as published in the AMA magazine: American Motorcyclist March 2000 edition.

In 2000 AMA and MRF became non-voting members of the United Nations so they could watch and warn us about this new Harmonization treaty. During one of their meetings, in 2000, there were discussions on destroying $30,000 Harleys if they did not meet noise requirement.

Both organizations have written several articles. In 2010 EPA was raiding motorcycle exhaust manufacturers. One of the organizations raided was BUB Enterprises. With the EPA’s and CARB’s threat of fines, a letter from the EPA written by Kenneth Feith stated: “Our meeting with you was our first in a planned series of meetings with manufacturers of bikes and after market noise control components in order to determine the state of current technology and problems that may exist in complying with the existing regulations from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Working Party on Vehicle Safety and environmental regulations.”

2010 was the year California’s SB435 was introduced; all tying into Global Harmonization. Helmets, noise, licensing, reflective paint, reflective clothing…all tied into the Harmonization Treaty.

If you prefer being told how to live, how to dress yourself, how cars hitting you are your fault, then simply do nothing.

If you value your American Heritage freedom and have had enough, join us. If you want to improve your voting power, join us. If you want to learn how to push back with civil disobedience, join us.

MY FOREWARNING TO YOU

Do not listen to those who simply prefer compromise; they will convince others fighting is futile. Do not believe that you as an individual will not make a difference; you have more power than you know.

Associate only with like-minded people. Learn how to push back, legally and constitutionally and you will make a difference. If you wait for someone else to do something it won’t happen.

Be motivated and motivate others. I have personally witnessed the power of a small group of dedicated people. Be part of the fight, it will be something to reflect on with pride.

BIKERNET QUOTE OF THE WEEK—

Worry is like a rocking chair; it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere.—Erma Bombeck, Buffalo News

The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.
Joseph Campbell, WashingtonPost.com

War never determines who’s right, just who’s left.
Bertrand Russell, quoted in the Victoria, British Columbia, Times Colonist

What looks like tomorrow’s problem is rarely the real problem when tomorrow rolls around.

The difference between what we are doing and what we are capable of doing would solve most of the worlds’s problems—

THERE YOU HAVE IT—Another amazing day in paradise. Coming up, we are planning a 5-Ball Racing apparel photo shoot right here in the shop, and here are some of the models we were considering. Markus Cuff will handle the photography.

Couple of the guys came over last night and fought over which tools to use to make James’ custom turn signal holders. They raced to see who would finish first.

They are all over the new apparel line, and hope by performing the modeling duties I will cut them a break. Let’s see if they show up on time.

In the meantime, I’m working on the last couple of chapters of my next Chance book, and with Kent Weeks from the Lucky Devil Metal Works in Houston on our Belly Pan Trike effort for Bonneville this year.

The guy’s shop is amazing and his team is capable of almost anything, which you will see over the upcoming months.

The issue of freedom in this country is heating up again. We continue to work with the MRF to form an Industrial Council, and Chris Callen and Rob Keller might be hooking up with a board member this coming week. Maybe we will have a committee by the V-Twin Show. I would love to see progress. In the meantime, let’s ride.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
