Neanderthals, Golf Clubs and Motorcycles

I blame much of society's ills on golfers. Back in the dawn of time golf started out as a simple game where you whacked a ball with a club trying to get it in to a hole in as few whacks as possible. What could be simpler? For years Neanderthals were perfectly happy with their custom hand crafted flint headed club attached to a stick by a leather thong as they whacked away at golf balls and merrily chased them between feeding Mastodons on those primitive courses as they they laid the foundation for the modern game of golf.

Who knew that in the modern era golfers would have worked it out so that in order to be socially acceptable you need a battery of specialized clubs numbered one to nine including an odd looking one with a P on it just to whack a single golf ball where mastodons once roamed? I mean who uses just one club?

So what does this have to do with motorcycles?

Back in the day a motorcycle was a motorcycle and you rode it any where you wanted. No matter what brand you rode there was no one to tell you that if you wanted to ride to The Grand Canyon and back from anywhere in America your bike was totally inadequate. There was no one to stand there giving you a variety of reasons why your bike was no good and you needed something like a Sport Touring Bike with adjustable wind screen and specifically designed to ride to The Grand Canyon and back otherwise you were hopeless.
