SPECTACULAR VEGAS PRE-BIKETOBERFEST THURSDAY NEWS

Hey,

Life is nuts, as you know, but here’s a grand example. For years Las Vegas was the wild growth entertainment center. It was a place where carpenters could get wealthy. Now the unemployment rate in Vegas is 25 percent, 67 percent of all home are upside down, and 20 percent are in foreclosure. The glitzy city went from the top of the entertainment heap to the very bottom.

But the folks keep chugging away, hoping for a better day. The bottom line is hard work, innovation, and business freedom. Our government needs to find a way to support business, not restrict it. Take for instance the motorcycle industry. It’s full of innovation and creativity, and passion. In some circles of government their nature would be to put us out of business with helmet laws, emission regulations, road blocks, restrictions, you name it. In some cases the agencies feel the need to justify their existence and larger governmental budgets by passing more regulations. Somehow we need to get over the notion that all business is bad and it needs to be curbed. If we don’t there will be no income for anyone, except government workers.

I still like the notion of education over legislation. That’s why I’m working with the Motorcycle Riders Foundation to establish a motorcycle aftermarket group to support our future. You’ll get a kick out of this news column. Hang on!

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY UNDER THE AUSPICES OF A VAST GOVERNMENT GRANT DISCOVERED THE FOLLOWING– Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.

Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else.
— Frederic Bastiat, French economist (1801-1850)

Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

5-BALL RACING BONNEVILLE 2012, BONNE BELLE ENGINE BUILD OBSTACLE–Lee Clemens the boss of Departure Bike Works in Richmond, Virginia, is building our 45 flathead engine with the K-model top-end for better breathing. He installed a stronger Sportster bottom end, with Timken bearings, but couldn’t button-up the cases, so we reached out to Duncan Keller and here’s what he recommended:

He said narrow the flywheels to match the 45 units, mill .020-.030 off the inside left case.
Take about the same off the right case inside
The cam bushing cannot stick into the crank area at all. Run WR lifters (from V-twin) so you can run KR cams.

BONNEVILLE CONTENDORS ELLER/ALLEN RACING–Burnin’ The Midnight Oil And The Candle At Both Ends

The humble racing and cycle building legend, Wink Eller, has some killer tricks up his sleeve for El Mirage 2011. Teamed now with motorcycle rally legend, salt flat racer and Broken Spoke Saloon founder, Jay Allen, the duo is, “a force to be reckoned with.”

Their original goal was to take the World Finals at Bonneville by storm this year. The delay, however, is a notable one. The intricacies of building a masterpiece race bullet is taking more time than anticipated. “I knew this was going to be a big challenge. You’ve got to take your time to properly build a bike for a 200 mph run. It takes a lot of painstaking work and it takes time to do it exactly right,” tells Eller.

Exactly right in the world of Wink Eller means that there are no short cuts and no cut corners when creating something that will be downright mind blowing and surely record setting. The heartbeat of these racing innovations is an S&S engine coupled with a Baker transmission.

Though Allen was disappointed that the bikes would not be completed for the World Finals at Bonneville, veteran Eller had a different attitude. “El Mirage was our ace in the hole anyway if we didn’t get to go to the World Finals. It’s just as prestigious a record and a more exciting record because we’re doing it in the dirt!” claimed Eller. Passes are made on a dry lake bed at this two-day event. Here, the duo will be able to set the same kind of records they would have at Bonneville with the SCTA. “El Mirage for us is what a fisherman’s favorite secret fishing hole is to them. If we can run there, we can run Bonneville. If we run 200 mph at El Mirage our season is going to be incredible,” said Eller.

The Eller Allen racing team intends to “turn heads and ruffle skirts” and certainly set the racing world on fire with their unique racing creations, yet to be named, and the benefactor of Wink’s tricks up his sleeve. “I’m burning the midnight oil and the candle at both ends working on these bikes day and night. My wife is wondering when the heck she’s going to see me again. Jay has seen the level of work that goes into building something this powerful. He freaked out when he saw it. In my world, it’s a piece of artwork.”

The team will run identical bikes in two different classes and is currently seeking sponsors. Sponsorship packages are available at Eller Allen Racing. Read more at www.ellerallenracing.com

LAS VEGAS BIKE FEST QUICK THROTTLE REPORT, QUICK–
The first installment of this years show.

Good weather – pretty good turnout.

Obviously fewer spectators but decent.

Lots of show bikes – some good events to follow.

VEGAS SHOP REPORT–Well as you saw we are still alive and growing over here in Lost Wages NV. The economy here has taken a terrible shit Kickin’ with the housing prices and commercial construction thus we are paying our bills but not getting ahead.

Glad to see your continung to grow and Bikernet is alive and well. What’s O SCHOOL CHOPPERS up to? Well after three trips down the block with production companies doing reality shows on us, maybe we have a real one this time. Sony entertainment has been romancing us with a new show and no it’s not a bike builder show, but way more O School family thread.

I’m doing a radio webcast show weekly now called O School Rules on  www.radiozone1.com . Interestingly this is a rock music show and after three weeks we are up to 275,000 listeners, wherever they are? I have a strong Euro, Pacific rim following, haven’t seen all the demogrphics yet, but the guy who runs the show is a real pro and worked for Sony Australia for 11 years.

My son just won the Cycle Source best on street with his dirt track style bobber and is getting a Dec. cover at Cycle Source apparently, yaaaa for us. At the shop we are building a lot of Sporty bobbers for $7995. We need something under 10 g for the market and it seems to work.

URGENT REGULATORY ALERT–Federal Government Proposes Mandatory Salt Replenishment Program for Bonneville Salt Flats.

The Bonneville Salt Flats is where racing began. From the early 20th century, legendary racers have sought to break land speed records or achieve a personal best. In addition to its professional racing programs, Bonneville remains at the heart of every racer’s dreams. For decades, the Salt Flats have decreased in size, strength and thickness because salt has been removed by an adjoining potash mining operation and not adequately replaced.

Preservation of the Salt Flats is under the authority of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The BLM has issued an “Environmental Assessment” of the current mining operation that addresses future salt removal and replenishment. It provides three options, including a voluntary approach (Alternative A) and taking no action at all (Alternative C). The SAN is urging the BLM to adopt “Alternative B,” which requires a mandatory salt replenishment program. Salt removed from Bonneville to obtain potash will be replaced in the same amount OR MORE. The current mine owner, Intrepid Potash – Wendover, LLC, has also recommended adoption of Alternative B.

We Urge You to Contact the BLM Immediately in Support of Alternative B

* The Bonneville Salt Flats (BSF) is a national treasure, a rare and unique resource. For motorsports enthusiasts, it is the place where hundreds of records have been set in a variety of automotive and motorcycle classes.

* BLM must adopt “Alternative B” from its proposed Environmental Assessment. Alternative B establishes a permanent salt replacement program to help protect the BSF.

* Alternative B is supported by the mine operator, Intrepid, and will require a minimum one-for-one replacement of salt that has been removed for potash mining.

* The BLM has had the responsibility to manage and preserve the BSF since 1946, when the racing area’s salt depth was at least 5 feet. It is now only a few inches thick. BLM must live up to its obligation to institute its own supplement program to replenish the salt.

DON’T DELAY! Please contact the BLM immediately by e-mail or fax in support of Alternative B. Comments are due by November 7, 2011.

Please e-mail a copy of your comments to Stuart Gosswein at stuartg@sema.org.

ANOTHER ACTION-PACKED WEEK IN THE WORLD OF BIKERNET–
We packed the company limo with stickers, Bonneville books, all kinds of good shit.

With Bandit at the wheel we rolled out of the west coast headquarters late Thursday evening in a daze, after a non-stop day that included a major relocate-a-ton-of-stuff to the garage move and the Thursday News, which always kicks our butts. My head is still spinnin from the move, or was it the scantily clad women and whiskey in Sin City for the last three days?

LAS VEGAS

Rolled away from the curb in front of Bikernet Inter-Galatic headquarters about 10:00 p.m. in the trusty company limo (lowered black hearse). We slid safely into the valet parking at the Fritz Casino after 300 miles of rock n roll on the juke box. The Fritz is home of the ever buzzing-all-night-hotel rooms, that’s located in the heart of the monster that’s called downtown Las Vegas.

The Code of the West.
Swore on a greasy, oily, dog eared, tear stained H-D manual, that the wine, women and bullshit would stay in Vegas.

Cantina Back Stage

We did manage to meet with some of the motorcycle industries leaders, we’re working diligently seeking more discounts on more products for our Cantina members. Rumor has it that the Girls of Bikernet ranks will swarm next week with the Girls of the Smoke Out.

STAY TUNED Bonneville 2012!

We’re just warmin the belly of the beast up. Parts are arriving daily for the Bikernet 2012 Bonneville projects. The Thursday news might be packed full of exciting news of Bonne Belle 45-flathead part heading from Departure Bike Works.

Peeled out in the dead of the night while the L A freeways are the easiest to navigate. Destination World Finals, Bonneville Salt Flats, one more time.

The crew at Bikernet will clink their glasses and tip their hats in a salute to all of the race teams and their families. Have a safe, successful, record setting week on the salts. See Ya there.

It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.

BIKERNET READERS IN VEGAS–
One of the highlights of my Las Vegas Bikefest weekend was meeting and talking with Bandit and Ray as Cashman Field. They took a few minutes out of their hetic schedule to chat with a Bikernet fan and Cantina member. Great guys.

ILLUSION MOTORCYCLE CHOSEN–llusion Motorcycles, Rusty Coones and Rod Requejo chosen to build Sons Of Anarchy Wounded Warriors Charity Chopper
www.illusionmotorcycles.com

Kurt Sutter, producer of SOA initially came up with the idea of building a SOA charity bike to be auctioned with all sale proceeds going to The Wounded Warriors Foundation. Much of the bike’s design is a direct reflection of Sutter’s input and based on the show’s unfilterd insight into the tight knit family culture SOA has managed to capture and craft into one of the most compelling true to life and heavily watched television series ever. Sutter’s choice of Rusty Coones and Rod Requejo (T-Rod) at Illusion Motorsports to put his vision to metal couldn’t have been more dead on. Coones and Rod are the real deal and have the credentials to back it up.

An imposing figure, Coones has been down the road more than a few times and in doing so has become legendary in the motorcycle community as has Rod with notoriety as one of the most skilled metal craftsmen in the business. Their state of the art facility, Illusion Motorsports, in Westminster California has a long history of producing real world custom bikes and was one of the first to offer complete rolling chassis kits.
Illusion is also the source for a full line of custom built, EPA certified big inch engines and the revolutionary BAR 6-speed transmission.
Rod and Rusty were given the task to build the SOA /Wounded Warriors charity bike in 14 days while being filmed by FOX. The footage of that build is available in SONS Season 3 DVD Collection.”

Illusion really nailed the soul of Sons Of Anarchy with this Bad ‘N Black scooter and it is a fitting tribute to our men and women in uniform. This is SOA’s way of saying “thank you for your unselfish service to our country.”

ATTIKA7, Coones’ Metal Band has songs in Episode 8 ‘Greed & Power’ and Final Episode Season 3 ‘Crackerman’.

Rusty is also the founder of and lead guitar for ATTIKA7 and will be playing at the Whisky A-Go-Go in West Hollywood on November 10 2011 at 8pm.

MYTH-BUSTERS KICKS MOTORCYCLES– Damn! Thought you should have this if it comes up somewhere in your politics.  Mythbusters answers which is greener, cars or motorcycles?

Mythbusters answers which is greener, cars or motorcycles?

By Aaron Richardson

Using portable emissions equipment, a wide sampling of cars and bikes from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s and with the help of Dr. Kent Johnson of UC Riverside, the Mythbusters team claims they proved motorcycles are dirtier than cars.

Doing so meant gathering data in real-world driving conditions along a 75-percent freeway, 25-percent city driving loop in and on the vehicles from different eras. The results of that test proved one thing that everyone should already know: motorcycles use less fuel than cars.

They also produce less carbon dioxide than cars, which accounts for 90 percent of a vehicle’s emissions. Where cars pull ahead, though, is in the amount of other noxious gases they produce. The Mythbusters found that bikes produce tons more hydrocarbons, which are carcinogenic; nitrogen oxides, which cause acid rain; and carbon monoxide, everyone’s favorite odorless deadly gas. Astoundingly, the ‘busters claim bikes produce up to 8,000 percent more carbon monoxide than cars. Yes, 8,000 percent.

A controlled test on a track using a small displacement, fuel injected modern bike didn’t give two wheelers the help the ‘busters thought it would. To give bikes another chance, Jamie and Adam built an aerodynamic frame to make the modern bike sip even more gently through the wind. The result, predictably, was that the emissions got a little better, but were still worse than the car’s. See the videos for yourself after the break.

News Source: YouTube

But the show didn’t really tell us why this is so. Is it because the equipment that cars have is simply too bulky or heavy for motorcycles, or is it because government regulations aren’t as strict on bikes?
–Brandon Frazier

This results make perfect sense as most cars come equipped with catylitic converters that use a chemical reaction to convert CO, unburned HC and nitrogen oxides into CO2 and N2 and H2O. These are not present on motorcycles and would easily account for the difference in readings. Compare a car with no cat or add one to a motorcycle and i bet your results would be drastically different,
–jj360

Their job is to ‘prove’ commonly held beliefs wrong for entertainment, so that’s what they set out to do therefore nothing they do is partial. If you take their results as facts you should not be allowed to reproduce.
–WillieD

Have you not watched the show before? The verdict goes either way all the time.
–Brandon Frazier

How important are NOx, HC, and CO, out here in central Arizona. Seriously, isn’t carbon dioxide the main concern outside of a smog-forming climate or in a big city?
However, my Geo Metro gets about the same mileage as most of my motorcycles have (50mpg), so no real CO2 advantage there either.
–NissanGTR

I completely missed the 2nd and 3rd part staring at Kari Byrons bigger boobs.
–Rotation

nitrogen oxides are also a component in smog as well as acid rain.
–johnbravo6

Since when is mythbusters credible?
–Andre Neves

So we emit substantially less carbon dioxide than cars, how much? They say that 90 percent of car emissions is CD. They missed the fact that there are fewer motorcycles on the road, consuming fewer mile than cars. Motorcycle damage the world of roads much less than cars and trucks, and the list goes on. Leave us alone, goddamnit. –Bandit

BIKERTOBERFEST Exhaust Noise Abatement–  Carl’s Speed Shop and the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau welcome you to Biketoberfest. We want you to have a fun and safe time, but we need your help and cooperation, so we can continue to bring you this exciting event next year.

We all know that the mellow baritone exhaust sound from a Harley engine is music to many riders’ ears. As a courtesy to city residents and everyone attending this prestigious event, we ask that you keep your engine’s exhaust note at reasonable levels within city limits. Then once you are on the highway outside the city, go have fun!

As a long time rider, racer and engine builder of Harley-Davidson, I know it is not that hard to keep engine exhaust sounds down to moderate levels. So I would like to share with you some tips that I learned through years of successful racing that will help make this Biketoberfest a fun event for all.

When an engine has a performance exhaust system, the easiest way to keep exhaust noise down to reasonable levels is to use less rpm. For example, try limiting your engine speed within the city limits to 2500 to 3000 rpm. This can be easily accomplished by upshifting to the next higher gear earlier than normal. Up-shifting early will allow you to take advantage of the low speed torque your Harley engine is noted for. Your bike will still accelerate quickly but with less noise. As a result, you will find that you will not need to use the engine’s high rpm horsepower, which is what produces high noise levels.

This riding technique is called short-shifting, which I often used on the racetrack to provide quicker acceleration. Try this technique and you will see for yourself that your bike will still accelerate quickly while keeping the exhaust note down to a reasonable level.

From all of us at Carl’s Speed shop, we wish you a fun and exciting time at Biketoberfest® and a safe trip home. If you are in the area of our shop, please stop by and say hello. We would like to meet you.

Ride safely. We’ll see you next year!

HELLS ANGELS MEMBERS APPEAR IN COURT–Judge denies most of the arrested Hells Angels members’ request for bail

Twenty-Six members of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang gathered in a federal courtroom Monday, but only one of the arrested individuals received a hearing.

Martin Thomas Forschner, an alleged member of the gang, was one of the 26 individuals arrested Thursday.

Evidence from a wiretap was brought forth in his hearing, which the prosecutor said showed him involved in a meth delivery at another defendant’s house. Forschner had served time in jail, and also had several instances where he failed to appear in court.

However his attorney said that in the past five years since his release, he has behaved well, taking care of his wife and mother-and-law and working at an automotive repair shop. Still, with his record, the magistrate said that he still posed a risk of flight. He was ordered detained.

Eleven others were given stipulated custody without bail at the hearing. The remaining suspects were delayed, and may be heard Thursday instead. One attorney told the family of a defendant that he would be asking for a later hearing, as the judge was in a “deny, deny, deny” mood.

Police and FBI officials are still on the lookout for four fugitives who evaded arrest.

BIKERNET TO COVER HAIRY BIKERS, NEW FOOD TV SHOW– I thought you might be interested in covering the upcoming premiere of “Hairy Bikers,” Friday October, 14 at 10PM ET on HISTORY.

They’re hairy, they’re hungry…and they’re hitting America’s back roads…one bite at a time…

Follow Chef Paul Patranella and Mechanic Bill Allen on an adventure through America’s Heartland

In Hairy Bikers, premiering Friday, October 14 at 10pm ET on HISTORY, Paul and Bill embark on an amusing and informative road trip along back roads to immerse themselves in local American history and long-standing traditions. But they don’t just cook and eat with the locals – they do everything it takes to put the meal on the table. They spear bullfrogs, trawl for shrimp and capture gators with a cross bow; they clean road kill, harvest wheat for beer, and track down wild boars.

In this 12-part series produced for HISTORY by BBC Worldwide Productions, also producers of the network’s hit series Top Gear, Bill and Paul explore the different old-school eating habits of various regions, from the southern Louisiana coast to South Carolina’s Low Country, from the Great Smokey Mountains to central Oklahoma and beyond. They learn folklore and age-old customs as they hunt, gather, cook, and eat side-by-side with a colorful assortment of local characters.

Back on the open road, the boys camp, fix up motorcycles, stop at roadside attractions, and swing by local biker events – all part of the Hairy Bikers mission to experience first-hand why eating and biking are some of America’s favorite pastimes.
Hairy Bikers – Biographies

Bill Allen, 44, is the owner of Bill Allen Motorcycle Company, a premiere shop in central Texas where he’s known for his attention to detail. He is also a custom bike builder, musician and passionate cook. After graduating from the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando, FL, he became crew chief in the super modified class of the American Drag Bike Association race circuit, setting 4 national records in his class for drag racing. CUSTOM CYCLE CONTROLS, INC. Slashes Prices by 15% on the New Improved Simplified Air Suspension/SAS for Softails–Henderson, NV- Custom Cycle Control Systems, Inc. announced today that it has reduced the price of their SAS/Simplified Air Suspension by 15% at both the dealer and consumer levels….MSRP is now $1,395.00.

Gary Farrell, Sales and Marketing Manager for Custom Cycle Control Systems stated, “We have lowered the price on our SAS system in order to stimulate sales at the dealer level during these tough economic times. Additionally, we are offering a 30 day money back guarantee and also a lifetime warranty on all machined parts on our newly engineered SAS unit”, Farrell concluded. If the rider ever experiences any problems, take off the SAS (it only take a few minutes), send it back and you’ll receive a reconditioned or new unit…no questions asked.

If you have any problems with (most) other units on the market, (you have to take your bike in to a shop to have them find the leaks in the airlines or fittings, which is where 90% of the leaks are found).

The SAS is super easy to install and comes complete with mounting instructions. The SAS has no compressor to mount, no pressure hoses to run, no fittings to fail…All you have to do is replace your old shocks with a new SAS unit and wire an on/off switch directly to the battery. Stay EPA Compliant on stock H-D’s by not having to move canisters to make room for an ugly compressor. Fits all soft tail Harley-Davidson’s as well as custom production bikes. Its water-resistant design is perfect for those that ride in inclement weather and they are manufactured right here in the USA.

Raise and lower your rear end at the touch of a button. Add air pressure to improve ride quality during changing road conditions or while hauling added weight. Also improving the ride quality is a “pre-set factory” dampening valve. At approximately 150 psi, the bike will be fully raised and the suspension will be resting on its piston bumpers at *maximum ride height*. After that your height will not change, but you can continue to increase air pressure for improved riding during cornering or with a passenger.

Additional Features and Benefits Include:
Price Reduced 15% (Dealer and MSRP)
3 Year Warranty…No Questions Asked!
Money Back Guarantee
Lifetime Warranty on Machined Parts
Built-in compressor
Cylinder Pistons and Rods are doubled sealed (Pneumatic seals and top quality O-rings are forever protected and eliminate leaks)
Pre-set factory dampening
Easiest install on the market (no compressor to mount)
Quick connect fitting with improved convenient breather line
The pneumatic cylinders eliminate bottoming out
Remote filtered air breather keeps compressor clean and dry

UNCLE MONKEY MEETS ZEN–  With the wind in our hair, warm sun on our skin we race across black ribbons of asphalt chasing the dream. Good miles or bad they are still miles. We see the country, we feel the country. It is in the smells that surround us, in the shifts in weather as we drop into a valley or skirt a coulee. When not on the road we are at gas stations talking to the locals about our motorcycles and trying to find word of a hidden treasure of a road to ride. We sit in bars and share the moments that only come on two wheels.

Sometimes we are stopped on the side of the road to answer the call of nature or just to stretch our legs and take in the breath taking beauty that is this country. Often as quick as we stopped we are back on the road. Rolling on the miles. But sometimes we don’t head out right away. Sometimes after we served the purpose of our stop on the side of the road we sit there. Solitude. We listen to the tinging of cooling pipes, chirping crickets, the far off screech of an eagle passing overhead.

We pull the air into our lungs and savour it before pushing it out. Oil, dirt, a little gasoline combine with wild flowers, tall grass and cereal crops. No longer in a hurry we bask in the emptiness. We stare at the road, the road that brought us here to right now, this time, this place in space. The universe sits right and lets us know we are on the right path. Ants scurry maintaining there homes as honeybees hang on the breeze. Swaying grass and the whirl of far off automobiles; their tires humming on the asphalt.

We sit alone surrounded by the world. Significant as that ant under foot, magnificent as Man stepping onto the moon. I’ve been there, you’ve been there, we’ve all been there sitting on the side of the road just waiting for our souls to catch up to our selves. However brief our stay is it centers us, grounds us to the road. When we do click that kick stand back against the case we move a little slower, more reserved, more…well you know what I’m talking about. We are man and machine but we are nothing without the road underneath.

VICTORY LAUNCHES NEW MOTORCYCLE AD CAMPAIGN FEATURING R. LEE ERMEY– I also hope you had a chance to look at the new Victory motorcycles Campaign – “Ride one and you’ll own one”. We launched it with a series of commercials starring R. Lee Ermey – star of the film “Full Metal Jacket” and the quintessential Gunnery Sergeant. I’m sure you have seen this scene from that movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPvsPBd5Feg

After your ride on the High-Ball I think you will understand how we are challenging riders to try a Victory. We plan a strong push in the demo arena with six full semi trucks of demos, plus several smaller trucks – likely more than any OEM’s demo fleet. You will continue to see this push in the months and years to come – this is the campaign that will exhibit the confidence we have always had in the motorcycles, and a pride we will now wear on our sleeves.

FACTORY DISPUTE WITH H-D DEALERS–
I’ve heard from a couple of people in Europe dealers there cannot sell online or Amazon and cannot ship outside of their own countries.
Harley must be positioning themselves to sell online themselves.

From the dealer aspect I’m right in the middle of it. Prairie Motorcycle (1/2 hr away) gouges customers every chance they get. They have Sportster 1200 on the floor for $18,000. Our club had a choice between a Road King or a
Heritage for the same price from Yorkton H-D (3 hrs away).

Prairie t-shirts are $55 compared to $35 elsewhere. Leather jackets are min. $700 and up…
on sale. They charged me $120 for the FatBoy logos for my bike when I could get them for $35 from Yorkton. It’s dealers like Prairie, and there are a lot of them, that are complaining about people buying outside of their area.

It will hurt the company but in the long run there are still people willing to pay. I talked to one guy in Houston and he only uses genuine Harley
accessories to customize his bikes. Why? Because it won’t void his warranty (supposedly unlimited lifetime on the motor and drive-train. Never heard that one before but he swears by it.)

The aftermarket always lacked in stuff for touring models but in recent years companies like FBI, Bad Dad and CamTech offer everything one could
need to build a custom bagger. Victory is making roads into Harley’s market and Indian can only get stronger.

BEN STEIN COMMENTARY–  The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.

My confession:
I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees… I don’t feel threatened.. I don’t feel discriminated against.. That’s what they are, Christmas trees.
It doesn’t bother me a bit when people say, ‘Merry Christmas’ to me. I don’t think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn’t bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu . If people want a creche, it’s just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don’t like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don’t think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can’t find it in the Constitution and I don’t like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren’t allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that’s a sign that I’m getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it’s not funny, it’s intended to get you thinking.
Billy Graham’s daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her ‘How could God let something like this happen?’ (regarding Hurricane Katrina).. Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response.. She said, ‘I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we’ve been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?’

In light of recent events… terrorists attack, school shootings, etc.. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O’Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn’t want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn’t spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock’s son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he’s talking about.. And we said okay..

Now we’re asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don’t know right from wrong, and why it doesn’t bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with ‘WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.’

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world’s going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send ‘jokes’ through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.
Are you laughing yet?

BIKERNET TRADEMARK DISPUTE–  This is Mona-Lisa Carstensen with Static Entertainment and Publishing on Vancouver Island, BC. I publish a free local magazine for car enthusiasts on Vancouver Island called, VI Performance Magazine. I found a picture (BIKERNET 15TH LOGO) I used it in an ad for Associated Tire from an open source file sharing on the internet. I use several sources and have tried to relocate the exact location so you can see the originating source file, but I am unable to find it, unfortunately. I was unaware that this was a trademarked logo for your company.

I did find out about your company through some research online and make a public notice on my website mentioning the wrong use of your logo and that it actually belongs to you. www.viperformance.ca I also changed the ad and revised the online version of the magazine.

Since my magazine is free and I have run out of copies as I only printed 5,000 I don’t know who has copies and how to retrieve them in order to send to you to destroy.

I apologize for the use of your trademarked logo. I would never use a trademarked logo of any kind had I know it was trademarked.

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN BIKER’S SON SHOT–
South Australian police say they are worried Fink’s MC Mark Sandery could take revenge after armed intruders shot his 11-year-old son.
The well-known biker’s son was sleeping in the front bedroom of a Semaphore house when the intruders burst in and fired two shots through the doorway – both bullets hitting him in the leg.

Neighbours called police after hearing screams from the house but when they arrived, they found only blood and a number of occupants who refused to say what had happened.

Local media are reporting that nobody from the house called police or an ambulance for the boy, who was driven to Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s emergency department by a parent.

It was the hospital that called police to report a boy had been shot.

Superintendent Howard Davies, of Western Adelaide Police, said Sandery – a senior member of the Finks – was not home at the time and people from the house were refusing to co-operate with police.

“I am appalled that an innocent child who has nothing to do with this in any way, shape or form has been shot and that people know what has happened and they’re not willing to come forward and tell the police what has happened so we can investigate the matter and bring those people who are responsible to justice,” he said.

“There are people who have information for the police but they are not assisting this investigation and that makes our job more difficult.”

Media who gathered outside the house yesterday were subjected to a torrent of abuse from Sandery and his fellow Finks, who hurled rocks, bricks and eggs in their direction.

One rock hit a car as it drove past the house, while another narrowly missed a glazier there to repair windows smashed during the late night attack. One window had a swastika flag hanging as a curtain.

Supt Davies said people were seen outside the house talking after the boy was taken to hospital.

He said they left in a diesel car but there was no description of the offenders or the car. The boy was the only one injured. Two other young boys were seen leaving the house yesterday morning.

Outlaw bikies post $500,000 bounty for shooters of 11-year-old boy
October 05, 2011 2:43pm

POLICE have warned bikies planning retaliatory action over the shooting of a young boy to leave it to them to resolve.

A statement issued by SA Police this afternoon said the South Australian public should be “aware that police have in place a number of operational tactics in a bid to stop any retaliation in response to the weekend’s events”.

“Police are currently assessing every avenue to investigate this matter and urge anyone who has any information to come forward immediately,” it says.

“The fact remains that an innocent child sustained serious injuries as a consequence of his
father being associated with a bikie gang.

“Police are committed to finding the offenders, but our job is made more difficult by the silence of those with valuable information.

“Police issue a stern warning that anyone considering retaliatory action will be swiftly dealt with.

“The message is clear. Leave this to the police.’

The statement was issued after it was reported there was a $500,000 bounty on the heads of those responsible for shooting the 11-year-old son of a notorious Fink member, Mark Sandery.

The boy was shot twice in the leg after armed intruders forced their way into a Semaphore house on Friday night. Police have received no co-operation from witnesses.

A source told Melbourne’s Herald Sun: “The Finks are offering $500,000 to bring this bloke into any clubhouse in Australia. Every crook in Australia knows about it.”

The Advertiser understands the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where the boy is recovering, remains on high security alert, with some staff said to be terrified there could be further outbreaks of violence.

Several police cars were seen parked outside and circling the hospital yesterday.

Police were appalled by the incident, which is believed to be related to continuing bikie violence in South Australia. All Finks chapters nationally were notified of the alleged offer, a source said.

If the attackers are captured and presented to a Finks clubhouse, it is likely they will be tortured. Police are still working towards solving the case before tit-for-tat reprisals break out.

In a statement released this morning, the Finks Motorcycle Club denied it had put a price on the heads of the men who shot the boy.

The club statement says there was no reward of any value being offered and says the shooting has “nothing to do” with inter-club rivalry. It urges police to “do their job” and arrest the gunmen.

The shooting followed years of feuding between the Finks and Hells Angels, which culminated in a brawl in Hindley St in May.

SA Police would not comment on the alleged bounty but said they were worried about an outbreak of violence.

MEANWHILE BACK IN THE BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING OFFICES–
My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school reunion, and she kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby table. I asked her, “Do you know him?”

“Yes” she sighed, “He’s my old boyfriend. I understand he took to drinking right after we split up all those years ago and I hear he hasn’t been sober since.”

“My God!” I said. “Who would think that a person could go on celebrating that long?” That’s when the fight started.

BIKERNET TECH QUESTION OF THE DAY–I’m listing a bunch of Harley parts on Ebay right now but can’t describe one of the items due to lack of accurate information. I’ve done a lot of searching on the internet and have found partial information but in my opinion, not enough to confidently list as being 100% accurate. I’m obviously motorcycle illiterate but everyone who will look at my items doesn’t need to know that!

I have an Arlen Ness/ Bob Dron fairing that came off of an ’07 Road King Custom. It has three different windshield inserts and is finished in vivid black. I was given information regarding what everything is supposed to fit on and that was FLHRS, which I’m assuming is a model or special identification for what type of bike.

When I was looking for more information on this fairing, I noticed that most said these were only for FLHR and had a “except FLHRS” notation alongside the description. Then I noticed that there was a special kit that could be purchased that would make this fairing fit the FLHRS.

Basically what I need to know is, since there is no additional or separate hardware with the fairing I’ve got sitting here, is this something that would ordinarily remain on the bike itself or is it the hardware that is currently mounted on the fairing? I’ll include a photo in case this would be of help in determining.

ONE WORLD STUDIOS COMPLETES ANOTHER FILM–Here’s a testament to small town values your readers might appreciate. While filming our new movie on San Juan Island, WA we encountered so many friendly people who reached out to help the strangers in their midst, none more than when we were scouring the island for a bike to include in a cameo for the film.

The movie is a horror movie about a Ouija board possession, but we wanted to put a bike in it as a secret tip-of-the-hat to all the people that supported our bike films (Choppertown, Brittown, and Harbortown) over the years. Problem was, we were on an island…but someone must have a Harley, right? Anything would do, but we needed it quick or we’d have to skip the bike scene altogether. So here’s the story and it starts with fish…

I needed two fish, two big fresh salmon to be precise, how hard could that be to find on an island in the Puget Sound? We needed them for an important scene coming up in two days and the whole crew (and more importantly, the director Scott DiLalla) were counting on me to find them.

Problem is, salmon were out of season and none of the fishermen were allowed to catch them! As an ignorant mainlander I never would have thought that…lesson learned. So I was wandering around the docks looking for anyone who might have accidentally caught two salmon and a local merchant pointed me to the captain of the Pintail salvage ship, Tim DeLapp. Said she heard he had a couple nice fish on ice that he was looking to unload.

Sure enough Tim had a couple of 12lb Chum salmon that he had caught during season and was saving for just such an occasion. He gave me a good deal, and as I was making my way out of his shop, and I noticed he had pictures of an old Indian hanging on his walls.

“Do you ride?” I asked hopefully.

“I used to,” he replied, “but not any more. Why?”

I explained my bike predicament and he said, “Well I don’t know if it’s what you’re looking for, but one of my crew likes to work on bikes as a hobby and he might have something. Let’s go over and see him.”

So we took a five minute ride over to John Vejvoda’s place and as we pulled up my jaw dropped. Not only did he have a Harley, but it looked like it was right out of the ’70s. The exact style that we love back in SoCal! John came out and greeted us, and as we walked around the skoot talking about what he’d done to it.

He looked up and said, “You’re a film guy, right?

Have you ever heard of an underground biker documentary called Choppertown?

It’s one of my favorite movies.” I stopped in my tracks. “Actually I’m one of the guys who made Choppertown.” I’ll never forget the look on John’s face as we stood there both wondering how this crazy bit of fate had put us in each other’s path.

John extended his arm, “Let me shake your hand again, Man.”

“Of course!” I said as we shook hands standing over the only hand-built chopper on the island.

Funny how things work out.

METAL SPORT MEETS VEE RUBBER–Several years ago, whiled building some monster wheels for Matt Hotch, for a Discovery Channel Biker Build-Off, Ron Loynds, the boss of Metal Sports Wheels reached out to Vee Rubber, a Thailand based tire manufacturer (with 10,000 employees). Vee Rubber is known for being able to develop new tires quickly. They own their mold making facility.

The relationship has grown between Metal Sports Wheels and Vee Rubber. Metalsports has taken over being the west coast (anything west of the Mississippi) importer/distributor of the entire line of Vee Rubber motorcycle tires. Ron and John Leale from Vee Rubber signed the deal this week.

Bikernet will bring you the whole story next week, but their entire line of motorcycle tires, including H-D OEM tires, 23-inch white walls tires, 30-inch tires, 23s, and 200 to 360 wide tires. They have the largest array of whitewall tires in the industry.

ALGAE BIOFUEL BIKERNET UPDATE–  Arizona algae biofuel developer in deal to produce jet fuel– Arizona-based algae technology company Heliae has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to produce algae-based jet fuel for SkyNRG, a Dutch renewable aviation fuel producer.

While both companies acknowledged that a cost-competitive, large-scale supply of aviation fuel derived from algae is not yet a reality, they cited significant progress and a marketplace eager for an alternative supply of renewable fuel.

“We fully understand that algae-based jet fuel is in its infancy,” said SkyNRG Managing Director Dirk Kronemeijer.

“But we firmly believe in algae’s promise as a source of truly renewable aviation fuel, and our aviation customers are, of course, very keen to see sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel that, in time, can be cost competitive. We see it as our mission to partner with firms like Heliae that are helping to make these alternatives a reality. We’re truly impressed with the long term vision and commitment of Heliae’s shareholders and with Heliae’s technical progress to date.”

The company said its processes could help companies worldwide convert free sunlight and industrial waste-streams into the affordable, renewable food and drop-in transportation fuels that our growing world requires.

Built by Jack Lilley Ltd, West London’s renowned and long established Triumph dealer in collaboration with Ace Cafe London’s Stonebridge Motor Company to celebrate to 10th anniversary of the legendary cafe having fully reopened, as a Limited Edition series of 10 individually numbered machines, the Ace 675CR Street Triple Special is based on Triumph’s popular and highly successful Street Triple R, a global hit since its introduction in 2008.

The Ace 675CR is a Street Triple R with more spec, style and attitude! The torque and sound of the liquid cooled 12-valve triple cylinder motor, running through heat-wrapped exhaust down pipes and Arrow end cans, combined with a close ratio 6-speed gear box and equipped with Triumph’s Quickshifter, produces performance and agility that makes for an exciting and exhilarating ride.

Individually numbered and with bespoke “Ace” graphics and paintwork to include to seat and radiator cowls, belly pan and to the lightweight five-spoke cast 17″ aluminium wheels applied by finish experts Altamuma of Camberley, Surrey, each of the 10 machines is fitted with a host of German TUV compliant performance parts from LSL, adjustable rear-sets, clip-ons, grips and levers, mirrors, brake reservoirs (front and rear), “tail tidy”, crash protectors (forks, swingarm, clutch & frame) and, in true cafe racer style, a single, powerful 7″ halogen 60/55 headlight.

Top notch fully adjustable race spec Kayaba front and rear suspension, “hugger” protected Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa shod wheels, confidence inspiring four piston radial calliper brakes and twin floating discs up front, all combine to make the Ace 675CR Special a great ride on the twisties!

BURT MONRO IN BIKERNET STUDIO–
In 1915, at the age of sixteen, Burt bought his first motorcycle, a Douglas. In 1919, he bought a Clyno motorcycle with a sidecar. After removing the sidecar from the Clyno, Burt went to the Fortose racing circuit, where he set some speed records with it.

In 1920, Burt bought his favorite motorcycle, a brand new Indian Scout, from a man in Invercargill. At that time, the motorcycle was in stock condition, with a 600 cc engine and 3 speed transmission.

He first modified his precious Indian in 1926, using very crude tools. For example, his micrometer was a bicycle spoke and he cast pistons in tin cans. Within a short time, he had replaced the barrels, pistons, lubrication system, and flywheels with some of his own making. He also designed a 4 cam to replace the original 2 cam design.

10%+ INCREASE IN HP WITH FAT CAT PIPE FOR SWITCHBACK–The 2012 Dyna Switchback 2-1 FatCat exhaust pipe comes with 4 baffle options for sound and performance. D&D’s dyno testing shows an increase in torque and horsepower gain by as much as 10+ percent. It was tested with Zippers Hi-Flow Air Cleaner.

Harley-Davidson has switched over to 2-into-1 exhaust on many of their motorcycles because it provides better performance and is more efficient. D&D Performance Enterprises has known this for years because they dyno test all of their pipes. D&D pipes are tuned for power in the passing zone and off idle. You have tone options that are based on the baffle. Each choice delivers greater rumble and a deeper tone.

JIFFY STAND FROM MR. LUCKY IS BACK–
Good news on the jiffy stand…they will be coming available. I received one for use in test fitment/developing Instruction Sheet for mounting….particularly the assembly of the ball, plunger spring etc.

There will be two versions available, featuring different frame mounting tab circumferences;
#MU29917, which is the version I have, is for welding to frame tubing 1-1/8″
to 1-1/2″ (size of my ML139Y frame for XS650’s you’re putting the bike
together) and, #MU29919, for welding to frame tubing 1-3/8″ to 2″.

BIKERNET OPENS ORGANIC FRESH PRODUCE STAND ON THE CORNER–

Seasonal Food: Apples Nothing says fall like fresh, juicy apples. This portable, mildly sweet source of nutrients may indeed “keep the doctor away” if eaten daily. Apples contain abundant soluble and insoluble dietary fiber, and provide vitamin C, which helps support healthy immune function. There are numerous varieties of apples available, and it’s worth taking the time to sample several and find the ones you will enjoy most. Choose apples free of blemishes, and always seek out organically grown apples to avoid pesticide exposure. Preparation tip: Help prevent browning when cutting up apples by mixing the slices in a bowl with some lemon juice and water.

CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS BEFORE LEAVING ANY WALMART CASHIER’S STATION!!!!!**
It happened at Wal-Mart (Supercenter Store #1279,
10411 N Freeway 45, Houston , TX 77037 a month ago.I bought a bunch of stuff, over $150, & I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was handing me the bags. I saw a cash-back of $40. I told her I didn’t request a cash back & to delete it.

She said *I’d have to take the $40 *because she couldn’t delete it I told her to call a supervisor.

Supervisor came and said I’d have to take it! I said NO! Taking the $40 would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn’t paying interest on a cash advance!!!!! If they couldn’t delete it then they would have to delete the whole order.

So the supervisor had the cashier delete the whole order and re-scan everything!
The second time I looked at the electronic pad before I signed & a cash-back of $20 popped up. At that point I told the cashier & she deleted it. The total came out right. The cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be defective.
(yeah, right!)

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY VOCABULARY CLASS WORD OF THE DAY–

bandersnatch BAN-der-snach, noun:

1. An imaginary wild animal of fierce disposition.
2. A person of uncouth or unconventional habits, attitudes, etc., especially one considered a menace, nuisance, or the like.

No one ever influenced Tolkien—you might as well try to influence a bandersnatch.
— Lin Carter, Imaginary Worlds

But while he was seeking with thimbles and care, a bandersnatch swiftly drew nigh and grabbed at the Banker, who shrieked in despair, for he knew it was useless to fly.
— Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass

Bandersnatch was invented by Lewis Carroll in 1871 in his book Through the Looking Glass.

SEARS SUPPORT OUR VETERANS– I know I needed this reminder, since Sears isn’t always my first choice. It’s amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and Sears hasn’t withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up for active duty.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears at least once, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement & feedback it well deserves.

REPORT FROM THE BIKERNET GHETTO PRE-SCHOOL–A mother was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school.

He didn’t want his mother to walk with him.

She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.
So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn’t notice her.

She said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.
As the two walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy’s little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, ‘Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?’

Timmy nonchalantly replied, ‘Yeah, I know who she is.’

The little girl said, ‘Well, who is she?’

‘That’s just Shirley Goodnest,’ Timmy replied, ‘and her daughter Marcy.’

‘Shirley Goodnest? Who is she and why is she following us?’

‘Well,’ Timmy explained, ‘every night my Mum makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, ‘cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, ‘ Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life’, so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it!’

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
May Shirley Goodnest and Marcy be with you today and always.

WHATTA YA TINK?–Amazing news. I’ve got to thank all my contributors, especially Rogue, the master contributor, for all the help every goddamn week. The way the world rolls nowadays, we never have a dull week, plus we produce a Sunday News in the Cantina.

Enough sniveling. Let’s discuss the future. Two Girls of Bikernet features are headed your way in the Cantina. One of them involves 41 girls. I’m going to wrap up another chapter of World Run the second Chance Hogan book. We sold out of the first printing of Harbor Town seduction, and I need to order more. Next week I will work on the Bennett’s Performance Evo Engine Rebuild Tech. Oh, and we will wrap up the Motorsports Wheels/Vee Rubber story. We now have a new tire manufacturer to work with. My first question involved tires for the Salt Raycer and Bonneville. They have Z-rated tires in 17-inch configuration.

If I’m lucky, the first Mudflap girl bike will fire this weekend. And with the luck of the gods, I have two bike features to post next week, a one-off antique, and the Machine Gun Preacher’s bikes.

I watched Rio Bravo last night with John Wayne, Dean Martin, Angie Dickerson, and Ricky Nelson. Dean sang a song and one of the lines included, “My Rifle, my pony, and me,” and, “She’ll be waiting ’round the bend.” There’s got to be a motorcycle line waiting to take its place, but hopefully she’s always waiting ’round the bend. Have a helluva weekend.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
