The 23rd Annual I.O.O.B. Motorcycle Club Pig Roast

The 23rd Annual I.O.O.B. Motorcycle Club Pig Roast:

                “Peace, Freedom, and Brotherhood Forever”!

First off, I.O.O.B. translates to the International Order of Old Bastards. Now they clarify the use of the term “Bastard” with the following disclaimer: “The term “Bastard” in the I.O.O.B. is not intended to question either one’s age or parentage. You see, some I.O.O.B. members have difficulty in expressing positive feelings and emotions to each other. So, the expression we can safely use that is nearest to having something positive to say about another is “BASTARD”. BASTARD is regarded as a term of great endearment, as in “How are you, you old bastard?” Do not be offended if someone refers to you as an Old Bastard. Just smile and accept the compliment as it was intended.”

The club’s philosophy also translates to “Peace, Freedom and Brotherhood Forever.” And as far as “Old,” there are no age limits except at least 21. If you’ve got an American made bike, you’re welcome to seek membership in chapters (aka “Tribes”) across the U.S. including  Los Angeles, CA, Apple Valley, CA, Midway, CA, San Francisco, CA, Rochester, NY, Tucson, AZ, Edmonton AB Canada, Reno, NV, Elko, NV, Las Vegas, and also overseas including Germany and Australia.

They’re a non-political, non-attitude, all- encompassing “family” of motorcyclists

who share a passion for riding, socializing and good neighborship. Every year the founding chapter of the I.O.O.B., the Nevada “Desert Tribe” chapter, throws a major party focusing around the club’s official food…barbecued pig, as tasty as you’ll stick a fork into. This year the 23rd annual event was on Saturday, May 14 held in Crystal, Nevada a short hump outside Pahrump, itself not far from the Las Vegas. Several hundred riders and family members showed up to enjoy a day of feasting, bike events, and music.

According to club member Caveman, the Las Vegas, Nevada Chapter’s Club Scribe, “We’ve had the event at Indian Springs for a number of years, then back in Vegas at the Plaza, and this year for the first time at Crystal and the Short Branch Saloon run by Miss Kathy. Her place is really biker friendly and it turned out to about the best of the events so far. All riders were welcome. Even people in cars. The John Zito Band played, and we had riding competitions, a raffle, a wet T-shirt contest and a dunk tank. Our club member Springer served as the chef, and was cooking all night on a barbecue grill that holds six pigs at a time. It turned out to one great day.” Caveman by the way got the moniker growing up in Carlsbad famous for its caverns and the nickname stuck when playing sports. He’s now a draftsman by profession working as a structural engineering company, many of his fellow club’s members working in construction as carpenters and electricians.

The Desert Tribe also hosts a Memorial Run to Laughlin at the end of September that attracts several of the other chapters as well as large number of other participants…all in all a great reason to explore Nevada and try your luck in Las Vegas.
