THE VAST AND UNRELENTING UNIVERSAL BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for April 23rd, 2015

Hey,

This is a fascinating day in the vast Bikernet universe. In one week we learned so much we can’t hardly put it into context. Think about the adage, “Think out of the box.” It’s more than a marketing tool, but a mental exercise. It will expand your brain’s ability. Try to learn something new and implement it. It will expand your mental agility. Learn a different welding technique, a foreign language, or harmonica. You’ll be surprised. In a sense, it’s like working out.

Alter your thinking. As human beings we can and do, depending on your state of mind. Here’s an example. Your neighbor kicked your dog, so you’re pissed at him or her for a while. Then, one day you discover a flat tire on your truck, but before you can get to it, your neighbor fixes it. Suddenly your brain has changed. You have control over your brain. For 20 years you have smoked. You believe mentally you can’t quit. If tomorrow you change your attitude to, “Yes, I can.” You will.

And finally from the Accidental Universe, by Alan Lightman: What we see with our eyes, what we hear with our ears, what we feel with our fingertips, is only a tiny sliver of reality. Little by little, using artificial devices, we have uncovered a hidden reality. It is often a reality that violates common sense. It is often a reality strange to our bodies. It is a reality that forces us to re-examine our most basic concepts of how the world works. And it is a reality that discounts the present moment and our immediate experience of the world.

Hang on! Let’s hit the news, quick before anything else surfaces. The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by Cycle Source Magazine. The new issue will hit the stands on May 5th. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation supports the Bikernet news, and Iron Trader News posts our news, from the queen of Iron, Marilyn Stemp.

BIG MOUNTAIN RUN 2015 Heating Up With Jared Blake!

We have just signed a deal with country music recording artist Jared Blake to headline the 2015 Big Mountain Run. Friday night Jared will take the stage and if you have seen him in concert you know he brings one hell of a show!

In addition to Jared Blake, we have added some great new features to BMR this year. After such an incredible first year back in the new location in beautiful Tucker County West Virginia, we can’t wait to do it in the same spot again for 2015. One of the most exciting new features is the Sportster Challenge. Started as a amateur build-off between a couple of friends, now there are 24 some odd amateur builders doing their best to take home the first ever “Sportster Challenge” first place trophy.

You can get all the info and get in on the action if you are interested at the Official FB page: https://www.facebook.com/events/504928702981398/

Below is a video interview with Jared when we caught up to him at the Lone Star Rally this past year. Check out his web site to see him in a town near you: http://www.jaredblakemusic.com/

RUMOR HAS IT RSD AND POWER PLANT HAVE SPLIT— Bikernet Hollywood reporter crept by P16 [Yaniv] yesterday– ‘Closed’ for ‘Renovations’ ‘Open in 2 Weeks.’

All RSD clothing ,bikes, everything but the gold leaf ‘RSD’ on the door glass was gone. Hardly anything left up front. No one around…today, searched RSD’s sites, no mention of the heralded retail partnership, looks to me like it’s D-I-V-O-R-C-E time…

LUCAS OIL MODIFIED SERIES – ON FIRE FOR 2015– Corona, CA (April XX, 2015): Now in its 10th season, the Lucas Oil Modified Series is one of the most exciting motor racing ‘shows’ in America. As one of the oldest and most revered form of motorsport, Modified racing has recaptured its fan base, blazing a trail across the West with thrilling Saturday night battles that light up the hearts of grassroots racing aficionados in the stands and the even larger audience on TV.

Once considered a local/regional event with ‘good old boy’ local heroes behind the wheels, the 12 round Lucas Oil Modified Series grew exponentially when Lucas Oil entered the fray a decade ago bringing with them national and international sponsors to cast a spotlight on each event and attract national stars to compete in the series.

Now in 2015, LoanMart is the Lucas Oil Modified Series Presenting sponsor, Hoosier Tire West is the Point Fund sponsor, K&N is the Tow sponsor, Sunoco Fuel names the Winners Circle, DJ Safety is the Rookie sponsor and Bilstein Shocks is the ‘B’ Main event sponsor; plus General Tire, E3 Spark Plugs, GEICO, Optima Batteries, Auto Meter, Protect The Harvest, Super Clean, 5 Star Body, NextEra Energy, ASi, Carlyle Tools and the Lucas Oil owned motorsports television network MAVTV, having all thrown their hats into the ring to successfully raise their brand awareness and provide the financial incentives to bring the best Modified racers in the country together.

Race Series Director Greg Scheidecker says, “The past ten years have seen a huge growth in Modified racing. Purses, spectator counts, sponsors and the point fund have all increased as have entries with more than 70 racecars/teams doing battle under the lights. Already we looking forward to putting in place the 2016 schedule as we have requests from track owners to host multiple races – although at this point demand exceeds supply.”

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION Washington Weekly Updates— Congress came back this week amidst a flurry of highway bill talk. The House introduced a bipartisan bill to attempt to solve the highway bill problems. Representative Jim Renacci (R-OH) and Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) have introduced a bill aimed at tackling the Highway Trust Fund crisis once and for all.

The Renacci-Pascrell bill would index the gas tax to inflation and then form a sort of Highway Trust Fund supercommittee to find a long-term funding solution. It is a bold stab at a big problem. Even the bill’s sponsors are not that optimistic about the bill’s prospects. Renacci, a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, was asked if he had the support of his fellow committee members, his answer was, “They know about it.”

Something needs to be done, but it’s nearly impossible before this round of funding expires, which is just about 40 days away. My prediction is that we will have another short-term extension of no more than a year, and hopefully with that, this drawn out legislative and funding punting will be over.

Hopefully you saw the release announcing HR 1861 entrance back into the world. Congressman James Sensenbrenner has reintroduced the legislation once again. The language is exactly the same as years past. That’s not the only similarity; the bill number should also sound familiar, because it’s the same as last congress. The bright minds that are Team Sensenbrenner reserved the bill number in the early days of Congress to, as they put it to the motorcycle community, “make your lives easier.” We thank Mr. Sensenbrenner and his staff. Get on the phone and start collecting co-sponsors. Write about it for your state and local papers and websites. Should you need anything from me, just ask.

House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chair Bill Shuster (R-PA) was in the hot seat this week. Shuster is negotiating a major Federal Aviation Administration overhaul, which has been very complicated and controversial with a lot of strong opinions, and millions upon millions of dollars spent lobbying the members of the committee. This is the definition of Washington D.C. high stakes poker.

It was a little alarming when Shuster was found to be dating a high power aviation lobbyist who represents every major airline. Her firm alone has spent millions on this issue. Shuster issued a statement saying that his office has a strict policy that his girlfriend cannot lobby him or his staff. She is still free to lobby the other 58 members of his committee though. Like father like son, you see, Shuster is the second Shuster to chair the committee. It’s sort of the family business. Bill’s father, Bud, chaired the committee prior to his son. And even more father like son, Bud had a questionable relationship with one of his staffers-turned-lobbyist. Her area of lobbying? Transportation. You cannot make this stuff up!

BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS NOW OPEN– A Good Friend Is Like A Good Bra: Hard to Find, Supportive, Comfortable,
And Always Close To Your Heart!

A man and his wife moved back home to Minnesota from Arizona. The wife had a wooden leg, and to insure it in Arizona was $2,000.00 per year! When they arrived in Minnesota, they went to Sven’s Insurance Agency to see how much it would cost to insure the wooden leg.

Sven looked it up on his computer and told the couple, “$39.00.” The husband was shocked and asked why it was so cheap here in Minnesota to insure, because it had cost him $2,000.00 in Arizona!!

Sven turned his computer screen toward the couple and said, “Well, here it is, direct from Ole’s Minnesota Fire Insurance Company, it says: Any wooden structure, with a sprinkler system over it, is $39.00.

The article and information was great. I wish other builders would open up to us on some of their builds and technical knowledge. Cyril does this with great style.

But!! You give me the cash and a team of experts I could blow Cyril’s mind and any other builder out the back door with my bike build dreams.

I just never could reach the finances to do it. Great article.

FLORIDA BRIEFS, BAD JAIL GUARDS IN PANAMA CITY– Two former corrections officers plead guilty in assault of inmate at NW Florida facility

Authorities say two former Florida Department of Corrections officers have pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate the civil rights of an inmate.

U.S. Attorney Pamela Marsh’s office said William F. Finch, 35, of Wauseau and Dalton E. Riley, 24, of Bethlehem pleaded guilty Thursday in Panama City federal Court.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported another former corrections officer, Robert L. Miller, 48, pleaded guilty April 1 to the same charge.

According to an indictment, the officers assaulted inmate Jeremiah Tatum without justification and caused bodily harm in the August incident at the Northwest Florida Reception Center in Chipley.

The Democrat reported that three other officers also were charged in the assault.

Last fall, Florida corrections officials fired nearly 50 employees, including several over allegations that they punched and beat inmates.

BACK TO THE BAD SENATOR– Not corruption, just a Florida ‘bro-mance?’ Did prosecutors confuse link between senator, West Palm doctor?

Sen. Robert Menendez says he’s angry because federal prosecutors “don’t know the difference between friendship and corruption.”

The New Jersey Democrat is upset about being indicted on fraud and bribery charges for allegedly using his political clout to benefit his longtime pal, Dr. Salomon Melgen of West Palm Beach.

Melgen was also charged in the bribery case and has separately been indicted for epic Medicare fraud. Like Menendez, Melgen says he has committed no crimes.

Except for the super-sized favors they did for each other, the friendship between the powerful U.S. senator and the multimillionaire eye surgeon really isn’t so different from any ordinary bro-romance.

If your best buddy needed a few bucks, you’d be there for him, right?

When Menendez last ran for re-election, Melgen donated $700,000 to a political action committee that gave $582,000 to the senator’s campaign — a heartfelt gesture with absolutely no strings attached, according to the doctor and the senator.

And when the government forced Melgen to return almost $9 million that he’d overbilled Medicare for eye procedures, it was nothing but personal devotion that motivated Menendez to start sending emails and making calls, trying to get the money back for his favorite ophthalmologist.

Hey, what are friends for?

Melgen often used his private jet to take Menendez on gilded getaways to the Dominican Republic. You’d do the same for your best friend, if you had a private jet.

And you could easily afford one, if you were the doctor who raked in more Medicare payments than any other doctor in the United States.

The government says that, between 2008 and 2013, Melgen and his South Florida clinics collected more than $105 million from fraudulent claims for eye injections, laser surgery and other treatments.

In 2012 alone, Melgen received almost $21 million in Medicare reimbursements, which works out to almost $12,000 for every eyeball touched by him or his staff. That year, he filed claims for 894 patients undergoing approximately 92,000 procedures.

What a busy beaver! Yet still he found time for companionship with the senator from New Jersey.

And Menendez was obviously appreciative.

According to prosecutors, he intervened on three occasions to obtain visas for college-age girlfriends of Dr. Melgen, who is married. The women — from Brazil, the Ukraine and Dominican Republic — were described as a model, a model/actress or (in one case) a model/actress/ lawyer.

Menendez wasted no time smoothing out the women’s visa problems so they could join Melgen in the United States.

Hey, what are friends for?

You’d do the same thing, if you could snap your fingers and shake up a U.S. embassy. It helps to be on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

According to prosecutors, Menendez met all three women. He and Melgen allegedly dined with the Ukrainian model at the Mandarin Hotel in Miami shortly after she’d received her visa.

How many senators would take time out from their hectic schedule to personally welcome a new arrival to the United States? That’s pure Bob Menendez.

Melgen was no less of a trueblue bud to the senator.

The indictment describes the time in 2010 when Menendez wanted to spend three nights in a swanky hotel suite in Paris. He was particularly excited about the limestone bath, exotic rain shower and soaking tub.

Upon realizing how expensive the room would be, Menendez emailed Melgen, asking him to pay for it with the doctor’s credit-card points: “You call American Express Rewards and they will book it for you. It would need to be in my name.”

Hey, what are friends for?

Caribbean vacations, private jets, Parisian nights — don’t think of this as a corrupt relationship between a sleazy politician and a rich donor. Think of it as two wild and crazy guys being generous to each other.

When a firm owned by Melgen had trouble with a contract for cargo screening at a Dominican port, the eye doctor called on his pal in the U.S. Senate to stir up some diplomatic heat.

On May 16, 2012, Menendez met with an assistant secretary of state to discuss Melgen’s business problem. That same day, prosecutors say, Melgen gave $40,000 to the New Jersey Democratic State Committee Victory Federal Account, and another $20,000 directly to Menendez’s legal defense fund.

Hey, what are friends for?

Unfortunately for the senator, that 20 grand for legal fees is just a drop in the bucket.

Or, in his case, the soaking tub.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON reducing 2015 shipments following soft first-quarter sales–
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Harley-Davidson will scale back motorcycle shipments and growth projections for the rest of the year after a decrease of 1.3 percent in worldwide sales during the first quarter of 2015.

Wall Street negatively reacted to the announcement on Tuesday, with shares of Harley-Davidson (HOG) falling 9.7 percent to $55.59 In early trading.

Dealers worldwide sold 56,661 new Harley-Davidson motorcycles in first quarter, a 1.3 percent decrease from 57,415 motorcycles during the first three months of 2014, the company announced.

In the U.S., dealers sold 35,488 new motorcycles in the quarter, down 0.7 percent compared to sales of 35,730 motorcycles in Q1 2014. The company cited “increased, aggressive competitive motorcycle discounting” as a factor adversely affecting first-quarter U.S. retail sales.

In foreign markets, dealers sold 21,173 new motorcycles during the quarter compared to 21,685 motorcycles in the year-ago period, with unit sales down 1.1 percent in the Asia Pacific region, down 5.6 percent in the EMEA region, and up 0.3 percent in Latin America and 5.7 percent in Canada.

After an extensive research program, with focus groups, dealer questionnaires, and mathematical analysis, an independent group determined that if Harley-Davidson would advertise on Bikernet for a world wide reach they would not lose 1.2 percent in sales, but show gains. Too bad.

BAD COP FILES OPENED–Woman whose phone was slammed by marshal says she feared for her life.

A video that appears to show a federal law enforcement officer grabbing a woman’s cellphone and then slamming it to the ground in South Gate over the weekend is under investigation.

A South Gate woman said she feared for her life during a confrontation with a deputy U.S. Marshal that was captured on video, showing the deputy grabbing her phone while she was recording and slamming it to the ground.

In an interview Tuesday, Beatriz Paez, 34, said she was out for a stroll Sunday afternoon in South Gate when she came upon what appeared to be a massive federal operation in her neighborhood involving local bikers.

U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement officers had blocked off a stretch of San Juan Avenue and had eight to 10 people lying on their stomachs with their hands on their heads when Paez took out her Samsung cellphone and began recording, she said.

What happened next – and captured in a 53-second video from a neighbor and posted on YouTube – is now being investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, the agency said.

In the video, Paez is shown standing on the sidewalk aiming a cellphone toward two men standing a short distance away in black shirts with tactical vests reading “Police” across the back.
As the men stand with their backs to the woman, she can be heard saying, “I do not feel safe with you” and “You are making me feel unsafe and I have a right to be here” and “You need to stay away from me, I don’t feel safe with you closer to me,” among other statements.

Paez told The Times on Tuesday that the men had noticed her recording moments earlier and began to back up toward her to block her view of their operation.

About 27 seconds into the video, a third man, a deputy U.S. Marshal wearing a tactical vest and carrying a rifle walks across a front lawn toward the sidewalk where Paez is standing.

Paez appears to aim her phone toward the deputy as one of the other men motions toward her with his arm. What everyone says in the video at that point is unintelligible.

At 32 seconds, Paez takes a couple of steps away from the men. The deputy marshal crossing the lawn then rushes toward her and grabs the device from her hand.

“Oh! No! Don’t do that!” Paez is heard yelling as the man wrestles the device out of her hand and smashes it to the ground. Paez said the man then kicked a plastic cup down the street that she dropped in the struggle.

The phone’s screen is shattered and the device doesn’t work, said Paez’s attorney, Colleen Flynn. They plan to try to recover the video Paez was recording from the phone’s chip, Flynn said. The three men seen in the video all violated Paez’s rights, Flynn said.

Paez said she began recording for the public’s safety when she saw the massive law enforcement presence, their military-style weapons and armor, and a line of people being detained. She said the officers started letting the bikers go soon after she pulled out her phone and started recording.

“It’s our responsibility to take care of each other,” Paez said. “It’s our constitutional right to film.”

On Tuesday, South Gate police confirmed that the U.S. Marshals Service was involved in an incident within the city that day but said the city’s officers were not involved.

TRAILBLAZERS CELEBRATE MOTORCYCLING IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA– Legendary club keeping history alive at 71st annual banquet.

The Trailblazers held its 71st annual banquet on Saturday, April 11th at the Carson Center in Carson, CA. The club has a long and rich history of motorcycling in Southern California, dating as far back as 1936 when A.F. Van Order put out the call for racers of the early boardtrack racing era to get together and share stories about their days on the track. There were a few such gatherings to follow, but in 1940 “Van” and a few others decided to make it an official effort and organized their group as the Trailblazers.

With a few exceptions, such as during World War II, the Trailblazers have continued to meet annually with the purpose of keeping in contact with those from racing, industry, the press and other aspects of motorcycling.

The group is led by a board of directors that consists of 15 longtime motorcyclists with racing and industry backgrounds including Skip Van Leeuwen (AMA Hall of Fame racer and long time motorcycle accessory distributor), Don Emde (AMA Hall of Fame racer and motorcycle industry publisher), Tom Seymour (Saddlemen), Tom White (AMA Hall of Fame racer and long time motorcycle accessory distributor), Paul Flanders (Flanders Company), Keith Mashburn (1970s racer featured in “On Any Sunday” and retired Fire Captain), filmmaker Peter Starr (Take It To The Limit) and others.

According to club President Don Emde, their purpose is simple. “We exist to hold a banquet once a year to honor notable motorcyclists who built the sport here in Southern California and to let our members connect with their long time friends in the sport.”

This year’s banquet drew a crowd approaching the max capacity of 700. Activities began at 3:00 p.m. for attendees to check in and then spend the next three hours enjoying motorcycles on display and seeing old friends during the Tom Cates Memorial Bike Show presented by The Early Years of Motocross Museum and Hagerty Insurance. At 6:00 p.m. the doors to the banquet hall opened and attendees found their seats to enjoy dinner and the awards program.

This year the Trailblazers inducted into its Hall of Fame eight notable motorcyclists and a ninth individual, CH Wheat, was awarded the club’s top honor, the Dick Hammer Award, named after the late-great AMA Hall of Fame racer. The Hall of Fame inductees included Walt Axthelm (former off-road racer who was a pioneer in the International Six Days Trial competition), the late-Ron Bishop (competed in 40 consecutive Baja 1000 races), Chris Carter (former Six Days Gold Medalist and whose career continues with his company Motion Pro), Neil Fergus (champion desert racer who gave Honda its first-ever #1 title in the United States), Rob Morrison (former California State flat track racing champion), Thad Wolff (top level 1980s roadracing star and stunt rider with numerous TV and print advertising credits). Also honored were two posthumous awards to former desert racing champion Gary Conrad and long time racing tuner Mel Dinesen.

The date for the 2016 Trailblazers banquet has not been announced yet, but information on the plans and other pertinent details can be found on their website at: www.trailblazers.com. The price of banquet tickets each year also includes a year’s membership in the club.

You will see CH Wheat’s racing history featured on Bikernet next week. If you are interested in the history of the other inductees let us know. We will be glad to work with Don and feature the all the amazing and historic racing inductees. Their stories are inspiring.–Bandit

UNCLE MONKEY MAKES A SWAP–
With two motorcycle lifts in a cramped work space 11×17, I don’t have enough room to work on all the projects that I would like. I picked up an old Vauxhall station wagon with the hopes of getting it up and running but with a long cold winter rolling over us. I threw the old car up on the inter-web to see if I could catch any interesting trades.

Over the winter I had lots of offers. Some good, some bad but nothing really excited me. Eventual a call came in to trade for a 1978 Yamaha XS11 and after looking each over I swapped the old car for the old bike.

Going in, I knew I had a long trek to get the bike back on the road. The bike didn’t run but it did turn over and was complete except for the missing battery cover. I’m not sure why it is always the battery cover but a search EBay and forums it seems to be universal truth.

The biggest problem, the gas tank was extremely rusty on the inside. Combined with someone’s attempted at a seal job made the gas tank more than questionable. It wasn’t a deal breaker as I was planning on building it into a cafe racer anyway.

The plus is that the ’78 XS11 is already a factory styled cafe so the bike already has the styling cues without necessarily breaking the bank. I filled the tank with a concoction to remove the sealer and eat away at the rust. After a day it didn’t seem to be doing much, but I started on rebuilding the carbs while I waited. Several hours later I turned the tank to another side only to find several pinholes in the tank spritzing my chemical witch’s brew out the sides. So now I’m stuck. Do I dare repair the pinholes? They are from the tank rusting on the inside so the metal is going to be weak everywhere.

Do I seal the inside with the hope that it will be enough to hold the pinholes until I can pick up another tank? Judging from the mass of sealer that was already in the tank I think that was what the previous owner had attempted.

Living on tight construction budgets I have all my spare cash earmarked for the Road King that HAS to be running for Sturgis. A new cafe tank would probably get the XS11 back on the road, but I already know that is an extremely slippery slope. A universal tank never just fits.

It will mean the seat will not fit, so that means a new seat which means modifying the frame. So here I sit with another project wonder how far I go? How much do I spend? Either way I know Mrs. Monkey will not be happy. Maybe I should finish her HondaMatic.

SSMRO LEADERS ALERT FOR INSIDE THE BELTWAY GATHERING– Bikers Inside the Beltway is quickly approaching on May 14th. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the event in Washington. We do understand that some of you may not be able to attend.

Therefore I would like to ask those states that cannot send representatives, if they would like for those of us attending to lobby your delegations for you. We would visit their offices and drop off MRF information packets and speak with any available members / staffers. This is an idea that I brought to the BOD last year, and it was decided to move forward with the permission of the individual SSMROs.

For those of you that would like us to proceed in your absence, please respond ASAP so that we can adequately prepare, as well as secure the manpower to achieve our goal of seeing ALL 535 members of Congress.

NRA ALERT, What’s in your Bug-Out Bag?

by Il Ling New

There are unlimited sources for bug-out bag lists, but you should also consider your own unique circumstances and specific needs (don’t just purchase a generic kit and call it good). Everybody’s kit will be different, but each should have the basics. You should be able to carry your own kit, as well as someone else’s, if they (kids, older people, pets) can’t. Mine weighs more than the recommended 25 percent of your body weight, but I’ve made sure I can lift, stand and hike with it if required.

The pack that I use has an extremely practical and cool feature, a smaller backpack that zips onto the larger pack. I’ve loaded what I consider to be the most critical items in the smaller pack, so I’m still ready if I only have room/energy for the smaller pack.

These items are not in order of importance. Wherever possible, and practical, I use re-sealable and/or space saver bags-both to protect stuff and to have the bags available.

Small (Critical Items) Pack:

Water filtration system, steel cup and collapsible water bottle

Food

Fire starter and candles

Disposable towels

Headlamp with spare batteries

Comprehensive first-aid kit (also includes trauma equipment, rubbing alcohol, saline, dental floss for sutures, etc.)

Duct tape, paracord, zip ties

Garbage bags

Whistle (I like the Storm brand)

Fixed-blade knife

Multitool

Permanent marker

Socks

Fleece stocking cap

Non-battery flashlight

Clothes (including waterproof stuff)

Saw

Neoprene work gloves

Nitrile gloves (also in first-aid kit)

Alcohol wipes (also in first-aid kit)

Orange safety vest

Orange surveyor’s tape

Orange bandana

Survival suit

Space blanket

Strobing (clip on) blinker

Breathing mask (dust, etc.)

Copies of important documents and information

Medications

Cash (small and larger bills)

Personal defense tools go on my person

In the larger pack (which zips to the smaller)

Tent

Sleeping bag

Solar charging panel and adaptors

Extra clothing

Quick-dry microfiber towel

Permanent marker

Energy drinks

Large garbage bags (the dark, thick ones)

Waterproof pads-can be used together as tarp or individually to carry, wrap, funnel, etc.

Tissues

Toothbrush and toothpaste

Emergency poncho

Baby wipes

Additional first-aid supplies (to supplement those in small pack)

Extra shoes

Playing cards (aside from obvious use, can also be used for paper, etc.)

LETTER TO THE EDITOR IN FLORIDA TODAY– Treat citizens like people, not suspects

I agree that in a country where practically everyone owns a gun, it would be foolish for the police to not have guns. But as recent events have shown in many cases of “violent arrests,” the violence was purely on the part of the police officers. And in many of these cases the escalation to violence was the police officers’ doing.

What is needed is a complete change in the way that police officers are trained, both officially and unofficially. The “brotherhood of silence” has to be broken so that good cops can report bad cops and not face reprisals and be ostracized by their fellow officers.

Training has to include nonviolent methods of calming down a situation and how to avoid escalating a problem into violence. There also needs to be a change in “attitude” by the police. They work for us, not the other way around. And, as far as I know, we are still innocent until proven guilty. If the police treated us like people instead of “suspects,” then maybe they would receive more cooperation.

It’s very simple. The police need to follow three simple rules: 1) Uphold the law; 2) Obey the law; and 3) Protect the rights of everyone.

OFFICIAL CERTIFIED BIKERNET PHILOSPHER ON HEALTH– It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. –Mahatma Gandhi

Health, one of the other precious gifts of Life! It seems every day I hear about someone facing a health challenge or worse leaving this earth. The older I get the more I hear it

Many of us are facing health challenges some major some minor. For many years I have had challenges with my back, but lately it has gotten worse. A lot of my conversation and thoughts have been around my resent MRIs and how bad my back is. The constant pain reminds me of how bad it is and I let it dominate my thoughts.

As I Paused this morning and reflected on my conversations I realize that I am part of the problem. I am spending way too much time talking and thinking about the problem and my Doctors opinion. I love what Nick Ortner writes about Doctors opinions:

A medical diagnosis is not a “final” answer. It’s an opinion. Yes, perhaps an informed one, but take it as that, an opinion. With a diagnosis often comes a “prognosis” – what to expect from the future. Again, still an opinion.

Remember they are practicing…

YOU remain in control of your destiny and your brain, or thoughts. Sometimes in order to heal we have to let go of everything we’ve been told, everything we read, everything we believe, sadly because those are often negative, fearful, thoughts, memories and experiences.

Replace these limiting beliefs with hope, with possibilities, with joy, with relaxation, and watch how your body responds and heals.

I find his words inspiring and a catalyst for me to change my thinking. I want to Live the best Life I possibly can as long, as I am going to be on this earth.

I am going to do all that I can possibly do to support My Health.

And So It Is

WAIT A MINUTE, New Bikernet Reader Comment!
Harley-Davidson and the Marlboro Man Bike at Loess H-D

Why is the tank on the bike in the picture not the same as the tank in the movie? The tank in the movie from the first scene, where it shows a close up of the logo on the tank has different initials than the bike pictured in your dealership.

Did they paint the tank different on the different bikes that were used in the movie? I’m in the process of building a replica for myself and have been doing a lot of research on it for the last year and a half.

This is something I’m curious of. I have read a lot of different articles which state that the initials on the deck of cards were supposedly friends and family of Mickie’s which had passed away over the years. In the movie the second to last ace says DAD where as your bike says RD instead.

TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLES LAUNCHES ‘VOICES’ TV ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN–
ATLANTA (April 23, 2015) – Triumph Motorcycles America is airing national television commercials as part of its global “For The Ride” brand slogan positioning. The 30- and 60-second spots dubbed “Voices” reaffirm and remind the audience of the classic nostalgia, timelessness and pure riding spirit the Triumph brand evokes.

“For The Ride” and the current accompanying television, print and digital campaign surrounding the “Voices” spots, convey a universal motorcycling truth – the farther you ride, the softer the everyday voices and noises in your head become; the more miles logged, the freer you become from the daily grind. This truth connects to a wide audience of motorcycle enthusiasts and non-motorcyclists and is as relevant today as it will be in 25 years.

The “Voices” commercial begins in the streets of Los Angeles, Calif., and closes on an open, expansive salt flats, signifying the historical ties of the Bonneville motorcycle to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah where the bike earned its namesake. The 60-second spot is currently available for viewing on YouTube at https://youtu.be/bd_Dbqxs1yU.

BAD JOKE LIBRARY STILL OPEN– A nice, calm and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, walked up to the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said, “I would like to buy some cyanide.”

The pharmacist asked, “Why in the world do you need cyanide?”

The lady replied,”I need it to poison my husband.”

The pharmacist’s eyes got big and he exclaimed, “Lord have mercy! I can’t give you cyanide to kill your husband, that’s against the law! I’ll lose my license! They’ll throw both of us in jail! All kinds of bad things will happen. Absolutely not! You CANNOT have any cyanide!”

The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist’s wife.

The pharmacist looked at the picture and said, “You didn’t tell me you had a prescription.”

INCREDIBLE NEWS— Sometimes it’s damn amazing.

I’m feeling bad about selling this 45 Flathead motor with a K-model top end. It’s an amazing engine built by Lee Clemens and his staff at Departure Bike Works. It has a Sportster bottom end and the whole engine was basically hand built. Now it’s going to Tom Seymour, of Saddlemen to be apart of a very classic build with Paughco.

We’re proud to say ARCH Motorcycles has come on board Bikernet. We’ve been working on a series of articles about their new bikes. We wish them the absolute best with their amazing machines. The motorcycle business is all about passion and love of the sport. It’s not about making money. If it was, we would design art deco toasters. Hell, most of the country can only ride a few months of the year.

Bonneville Speed Trials is coming up this summer and is right at the pinnacle of the list for many Bikernet Staffers. Sure, we’re starving artist who are trying to set world land speed records. But for many of us aficionados, this event is the mother lode. We need to be there or die trying.

Any minute now two new Progressive Suspension shocks will fly into the headquarters for our Mudflap girl FXR. We also need to wrap up the tech with Jeremiah’s Dyna and his new Progressive rear shocks.

I know there’s more news, but it’s time for chow and whiskey.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
