Last night we got the call. “Blaze to Melrose the gang is waiting,” Snake issued the announcement and hung up. We peeled.
Yaniv “Neevo” Evan, of Power Plant or P16, which means P-P (16th letter of the alphabet) or Power Plant has been located in an alley behind Melrose, one of the most fashionable fabulous, trendy streets in Los Angeles. He always needed a storefront.
At one point another vintage trendy apparel line took the storefront and gladly put heavy glass panes into the Power Plant grubby garage to give their apparel line authenticity. It worked, but times changed and they moved out.
Yaniv scrambled to make the storefront his own and began collaborating with four other pals to offset the high price of Melrose properties, and then Roland Sands entered the picture.
Roland, who owns a terrific store front in Westminster, California, needed serious foot traffic to test his apparel offerings. He immediately recognized the vintage connection, the quality of Neevo’s workmanship, the style, panache, and hard work ethic. He offered to share the space and help refurbish the old classic storefront.
They were still painting the sign on the wood-slat front of the building as the crowds roared up to enjoy the party, check the action, and chow on tacos from hell.
“Lots of people attended and there was a waiting line to get in at 10 p.m.,” said Bikernet International editor, Art Hall. “Melrose has probably not seen so many bikes before.” Art flew in from Thailand with a member of the Thai motorcycling community to cover this event.
“The Bandit was seen,” Art reported, “But escaped before photographic evidence could be obtained.”
We will bring you more on the store, the product lines and the hand-built P-16 Panhead located in the store window in the very near future on Bikernet.
