TWISTED BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for February 1, 2024

Hey,

This is going to be an interesting news column. It will point out the extreme need for everyone to be alert, informed and involved.
Following are pieces of an email from a very active motorcycle rights advocate.

“In general, I like your Freedom Flier copy. One suggestion would be to add a section on the effect CO2 has on human breathing, and how adverse effects can be mitigated simply through keeping the air in your home clean. I mention this because many in the public are convinced that significant risks posed to human health by CO2 emissions are not only a regular occurrence but are also similar in severity to those supposedly posed to the planet.

“Having been in cities in China where the air pollution was so bad that my eyes and lungs were burning even though I was in my room inside a high-end hotel, pretending that excessive amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere are not dangerous is shortsighted. The point is that only under such extreme circumstances are humans normally at risk. Even in the most polluted cities in the U.S. and Europe, this isn’t the case. A simple explanation that CO2 is not dangerous to human health except in the most extreme conditions would be a good thing to add.

Mark is completely off base. CO2 is not a pollutant. We thrive with more CO2. We currently have 420 ppm in the atmosphere, actually a very low number. You will see a report below that will blow your mind.

The real point is that we need to learn the differences, the data and the positive aspects of CO2. This news is full of twists and turns all around inaccurate info that we’ve been fed for almost 20 years. The truth must return…

THIS JUST IN FROM FLORIDA, 100-WORD FICTION CONTEST ENTRY–
Mountain Ride

In the dark of the overcast day, I navigated the mountain road. Curve after curve then slowing for the switchbacks, the chill started to get to me. I froze to the bone. I contemplated pulling over to walk off the cold. As I made the last turn the sky brightened and the warmth of the sun hit my face.

AHHH, no need to pull over now.
Well, maybe for fuel.

TODAY’S CLIMATE CRISES IS A FAIRY TALE—This is just a snippet of a fantastic article, everyone should read.

As atmospheric CO2 increases, its GHG effect decreases: CO2’s warming effect is 1.5°C between zero and 20 ppm, 0.3°C between 20 and 40 ppm, and 0.15°C between 40 and 60 ppm. Every doubling of atmospheric CO2 from today’s levels decreases radiation back into space by a mere 1%. For most of the past 800,000 years, Earth’s atmospheric CO2 has ranged between about 180 ppm and 320 ppm; below 150 ppm, Earth’s plants could not exist, and all life would be extinguished.

Today’s global atmospheric CO2 levels are ~420 ppm. Even at these levels, plants are “partially CO2-starved.” In fact, standard procedures for commercial greenhouse growers include elevating CO2 to 800–1200 ppm; this enhances growth and crop yield ~20–50%. As shown by satellite since 1978, increased atmospheric CO2 has helped “green” the Earth by more than 15 percent, substantially enhancing crop production.

If global atmospheric CO2 was ~280 ppm in 1750, and it’s ~420 ppm today, what’s the source of this 140-ppm increase? Scientists estimate that human-associated industrial emissions might have contributed 135 ppm — with “natural causes” accounting for the remaining 5 ppm.

In Earth’s history, the highest levels of atmospheric CO2 (6,000–9,000 ppm) occurred about 550–450 million years ago, which caused plant life to flourish. CO2 levels in older nuclear submarines routinely operated at 7,000 ppm, whereas newer subs keep CO2 in the 2,000- to 5,000-ppm range. Meanwhile, ice core data over the last 800,000 years show no correlation between global warming or cooling cycles and atmospheric CO2 levels.

CO2 in our lungs reaches 40,000–50,000 ppm, which induces us to take our next breath. Each human exhales about 2.3 pounds of CO2 per day, which means Earth’s 8 billion people produce daily 18.4 billion pounds of CO2. But humans represent only 1/40 of all CO2-excreting life on Earth. Multiplying 18.4 billion pounds by 40 gives us 736 billion pounds of CO2 per day. This approximates the overall CO2 excreted by the total animal and fungal biomass on the planet.

Daily emissions from worldwide industry in 2020 were estimated to be 16 million metric tons of CO2 equivalents. If one metric ton is 2,200 pounds, then “total industrial emissions” amount to 35,200,000,000 (35.2 billion) pounds of CO2 per day. This means that the entire animal and fungal biomass (736 billion pounds) puts out more than 20 times as much CO2 as all industrial emissions (35.2 billion pounds)!

Can any clear-thinking person comprehend the facts above and still create a company with idiotic plans to “sequester CO2” or “sequester carbon”? Scientifically, “net zero” and “carbon footprint” are meaningless terms. There is no “climate crisis.”

STEP INTO THE BIKERNET EMERALD THOUGHT TEMPLE FOR TODAYS INSPIRING SERMON–Embrace the Challenges Disappointments and Obstacles

Within every adversity is the seed for equal or greater benefit.

True growth doesn’t stem from our successes; rather, it flourishes in the face of mistakes and challenges. Einstein wrote that we never solve a problem at the same level of consciousness that it was created in. What he was telling us is that we must move to a higher level of consciousness in order to find the solution. Why would we want to focus our energy on the problem instead of taking that same negative energy and find the solution.

My friends we will face challenges every day, some small, some monumental. This is just the way it is.

It is up to us whether they are going to handle us or are we going to handle them.

No matter what, we have a choice of which way to go. Les Brown wrote “Our ability to handle life’s challenges is a measure of our strength of character.”

Affirmation: Today I embrace and challenge for I Know that they are an opportunity for me to grow. I am confident in the inherent solutions within me.

I learn from the lesson, rise above the situation and my Life is better for it. Today I am in charge of any situation.

And So It Is

DRAG REP COMMENT— ALERT! Drag Specialties Waiver Story

https://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=15404

Is this the national enquiree? You’ve heard something but you haven’t verified it and passing it off as fact. The page in the catalog that everyone is freaking out about has been in the previous 2 catalogs as well. You should consider doing some research before jumping to conclusions.

It’s on page 7 in this year’s catalog, it was on page 6 in the 2022 and 2023 catalogs. Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited must print it to cover their asses. Whether an acknowledgement or waiver that dealers will be required to sign to purchase race-only parts is yet to be determined.

Nowhere does Drag require consumers to sign waivers but if the EPA requires it of the distributor to cover their asses, then dealers should follow suit to cover theirs. As of right now, it’s business as usual. The only thing that’s a certainty is that CARB and the EPA have and will continue to make it more difficult to acquire class 3 parts.

Keep your eye on the Supreme Court case Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo case. A decision is expected to be made soon which could overturn the Chevron Doctrine and take away the EPA and other federal agencies abilities to interpret laws and make rules without judicial review.

–Anonymous Drag Rep

We actually did our research and Amy did a helluva job on that article. This rep caused me to dig even deeper. I spoke to Bob Kay from the IMA, who spoke to Tom Motsko from Drag Specialties.

The waiver program is happening, but S&S and Vance and Hines are paying to have many of their performance products reach compliance with the EPA, so they can be sold far and wide without issues.

We will publish another report in the very near future.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE DRAG WEBSITE–Emissions and Noise Regulations

NOTE: The California Air Resources Board (“CARB”) and/or the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) does not permit the use of aftermarket emissions-related part(s) that alter the performance of OEM emissions-related devices unless carb has issued an Executive Order, other than on racing vehicles on closed courses. Check your local laws and manufacturer’s information. More California exhaust information is available at www.arb.ca.gov/.

NOTE: Aftermarket products, including but not limited to exhausts, catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, fuel/air controller modules, air filter kits, camshafts, O2 eliminators, and carburetors and jet kits which alter, modify, or replace emission control devices or systems of an originally compliant highway motorcycle, are not legal for sale or street use in California unless they have been issued a CARB Executive Order.

Aftermarket emissions-related products which have not been issued an Executive Order or which are not aftermarket Replacement Parts, as defined in Title 13, California Code of Regulations, Section 1900(b)(2), are authorized for closed circuit race use only. Products shown may be designed, manufactured, intended and sold for closed circuit race use only and use of the same on public roads or lands may be a violation of local, state and/or federal laws. See manufacturer’s information and state and local laws to determine what is authorized for your use on your vehicle.

The following emissions-related defined terms are used on this website (PARTS WITH THE FOLLOWING DESIGNATIONS ON THIS WEBSITE ARE NOT ILLEGAL FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA UNDER CARB REGULATIONS):

“CARB E.O.” means the specified Executive Order issued by CARB. An Executive Order constitutes an exemption by CARB from CA Vehicle Code 27156 and 38391, for sale of the part number for the make/model/year fitment(s) specified in the Executive Order.

“Replacement Part” means any aftermarket part intended to replace an original equipment emissions-related part and which is functionally identical to the original equipment part in all respects which in any way affect emissions (including durability), or a consolidated part.

“Qualified Manufacturer Declared Replacement Part” means any aftermarket part intended to replace an original equipment emissions-related part and which is functionally identical to the original equipment part in all respects which in any way affect emissions (including durability), or a consolidated part, that has been evaluated and declared by the manufacturer to meet this definition and carry this categorization and designation label. This manufacturer has declared in writing that it has documentation, based upon sound engineering judgment, indicating the replacement part does not reduce the effectiveness of any required emission control device and it does not cause the modified vehicle/engine/equipment to exceed applicable emissions standards for that make/model/year fitment(s) advertised.

NOTE: Products shown may not conform to federal, state or local emissions and/or noise regulations.

AMAZING TECH: INSTALLING THE JIMS FORCE FLOW FOR TWIN CAMS

https://www.bikernet.com/pages/AMAZING_TECH_INSTALLING_THE_JIMS_FORCE_FLOW_FOR_TWIN_CAMS.aspx

–Eliot
Orland, IN

The people who manufactured JIMS force flow fan said they do not sell a fan for a 2023 Rural King special. So, I asked them why and they told me they’ve never upgraded the wiring. So, for 2000 I think 2022, 2023 , 2000 and 2024 you can buy it you can install it but they do not tell you how to wire it.

They said they do not make one for my 2023. That’s the major manufacturers response. I said give me a break it’s a fan dammit. Just tell me how to make it work off of the thermostat and the on and off switch and that’s all I care about. I would appreciate if somebody could help.

Thanks for any help

Hey,

I reached out to JIMS. I put one on the Salt Torpedo with a toggle switch. I believe the black wire was ground, then I just tested the other wires until I found the power wire, bada bing. I had it wired to a switch.

JIMS Contributed

Eliot –

I’m sorry about the original feedback given to you on our Forceflow – we had some miscommunication on our end that led to this.

In short, originally, we would connect the Forceflow to the dataport link on earlier bikes. Reason being, often times customers were loaded up already on their accessory port, and the dataport was pretty much always unused, and gave us a 12V source.

That said, about two years ago – the dataport was changed to an injected molded plug and we could no longer source the mating part of the plug. We had to come up with a solution.

We have developed an adapter, which converts the dataport plug over to the accessory port – and this makes it an easy plug and play install. I have a couple of proto’s made up, and if you want to go this way – I can throw one of them at you if you decide to run a JIMS Forceflow.

Or … it’s as simple as tapping into a 12V source on the bike – almost anyone can figure this out. I know you can.

Our sales manager “Monty” has a wiring diagram that shows our harness, and we could send this to you. Monty’s up to speed on how these work and can help.

Again, I’m sorry we didn’t give you this information earlier.

AMCA BLACK HILLS CHAPTER MEET– Feels like spring in the Black Hills. We had a great time at the Christmas party, it was terrific to see everyone. We will be meeting again on May 18, 2024, in Aberdeen at Carl’s for our spring meeting. Please put it on your calendar. Reminder that this is also the Olsen boy’s (Carl, Matt, Locke) birthday’s so always a lot of fun.

Our Road-run last fall was a big success, and we continue to be the one’s setting the bar for other runs. Reach out to me, if you want to share your Road Run story.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you, as you are my favorite people. Until then be safe and healthy.

FAB KEVIN TO THE RESCUE—Brother John bought a 1960 roller and started to work on it. The glide didn’t have the stock drum brake and for so many bikes a springer front brake system will do the trick. We went to work.

The most inexpensive way to go includes Fab Kevin’s mounting plate and a common, Tokico, 4-piston Jap bike brake caliper. We machined a spacer and offset the bracket. Bada bing, strong stopping power with class on a Panhead. John is currently rebuilding the caliper.

NON-STOP, NEVER DULL AND NEVER GIVE UP—This News column speaks to the need to stay informed and involved. But wait, in the middle of all the chaos is day to day life. The evil ones seem to miss that.

Next week I need to focus on a couple of techs, including one about rebuilding a 4-speed transmission for the first time in 40 years. Hang on!

The talented Freddie Cuba sent me this shot of his new railing.

Picked up my paint at the TNT Headquarters in Spearfish. We had it flat cleared. Tim said, “Don’t touch it, the flat clear will go shiny.”

What the hell, I’m going to be touching it for the next month handling final assembly.

I machined down the dust collector on the inside of John’s hydraulic brake drum then welded it back in place. It still hit the backing plate and we removed it again.

We attended a gala event at the Deadwood Mountain Grand. The goal was to raise funds for the Sacred Mountain Retreat for drug and alcohol addicted Vets. It was a good time and hopefully we pitched in some.

It’s non-stop around here. Another tech will update the VLXAFL5 build. In the meantime we will fight for the freedom to build and ride anything you like.
