It’s another strange day in paradise. I’m working with the community group to finish our Wilmington corridor to the water. Life is so strange. We are asking the Port to give us a waterfront in Wilmington, which they took away from the community. We are the only coastal community in California without a beach. San Pedro has 6 miles of waterfront, we have 600 feet. What the fuck?
I’m also working with the port to paint an historic mural on the side of the Bikernet Headquarters, which faces the busiest street in the Port of Los Angeles. This effort is designed to support the Port, the community, and of course Bikers. Amazing. After three or four years it is now moving forward.
It’s good to dream, then try to make dreams a reality. I try to get this across to kids who sit about smoking cigarettes and dope, then piss and moan about their condition.
Through an old high school buddy, Larry St. Marie, I met Andrew, who built this Sportster. An amazing young man, he will be building quality custom bikes and cars for years to come. He’s also a union guy repairing equipment on the docks. We are working up a feature on his first custom Sporty for American Iron.
Next to Andrew’s shop is McQuiston’s Custom Cycles and a great group of guys. I think they should be featured in Cycle Source.

MAY IS MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS MONTH IN WISCONSIN–May is the traditional start of the motorcycle riding season for many riders in the Midwest and northern states. Proclamations recognizing this and the need for other motorists to Watch for Motorcycles are signed each year by state’s governors.
Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin have all shared in this tradition for many years. In Wisconsin, some community groups and motorcycle clubs and associations came together to plan a special memorial and awareness event for the week of May 4-10, 2014. The Milwaukee City Common Council issued a citywide resolution declaring May 4-10 is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Week. This is in addition to a statewide proclamation from the governor proclaiming May is Motorcycle Awareness Month.
The events in Milwaukee are centered around plans formulated by a select committee representing various motorcycle clubs and associations. Weeklong activities include several educational elements, including Accident Scene Management for Road Captains, Group Riding workshops and race-tested techniques for braking and cornering. The weeklong activities culminate with a bike blessing in Milwaukee followed by bikers from around the state gathering at the state capitol in Madison for a memorial and awareness program on the State Street steps at the Capitol.

SABERTOOTH FIGHTS LEGAL BULLY BY ARCTIC CAT– Sabertooth Motorcycles is fighting back against a bullying lawsuit brought by Minnesota based Arctic Cat over the use of Sabertooth’s registered WildCat name and logo with a countersuit of its own.
Sabertooth owns the federally registered WildCat trademark for its motorcycles and trikes. Arctic Cat applied to the US Patent and Trademark Office to register the same name for its new line of side-by-side ATVs. The USPTO, however, rejected Arctic Cat’s application because it conflicted with Sabertooth’s trademark rights.
Although Sabertooth filed, received registrations and used the WildCat trademark first, Arctic Cat is trying to wrest control of the trademark from Sabertooth. Arctic Cat’s lawsuit is expensive, time consuming and without merit. Sabertooth has been using the WildCat mark for eight years. Arctic Cat more recently starting using the name on its ATVs.
“This is a clear case of Arctic Cat trying to strip our rights from us,” Ben Daniels, owner and founder of Sabertooth says, “and we won’t tolerate it. We will not be pushed around by a bigger company. All the evidence supports our position.”
One of many points that refute Arctic Cat’s claim is that the USPTO denied, three times, Arctic Cat’s application to register Wildcat, citing the likelihood of confusion with Sabertooth’s WildCat trademarks.
In Arctic Cat’s original lawsuit regarding the WildCat trademark, Arctic Cat sought only a ruling that declared its use of Wildcat did not infringe upon Sabertooth’s trademark rights. After reading Sabertooth’s countersuit, however, Arctic Cat realized that they were in danger of losing and they responded by filing other actions trying to invalidate all of Sabertooth’s claims to the WildCat trademark, with scurrilous and false allegations.
Trademark bullying is not uncommon when a larger company wants to trample on the rights of a smaller company. They sometimes use expensive litigation as a means to take what they cannot get in any other way. “It appears that’s what Arctic Cat is doing here,” says Daniels “since they filed their lawsuit just days after receiving the final rejection for their trademark application from the USPTO.”
In related news, Arctic Cat has recently been sued by Polaris for patent infringement involving Arctic Cat’s Wildcat line of side-by-side ATVs.

WEED WORLD NEWS– Golden, CO: Fibromyalgia patients who have tried cannabis say that it is more likely to relieve their symptoms than are conventional alternatives, according to the findings of an online survey of over 1,300 subjects conducted by The National Pain Foundation and NationalPainReport.com.
Of those surveyed, 379 respondents reported having used cannabis therapeutically. Sixty-two percent of them rated the substance to be “very effective” in the treatment of their condition. Only five percent of said that cannabis did “not work at all.”
By comparison, among those who had used the prescription drug Cymbalta, only eight percent rated the drug as “very effective,” and 60 percent said it did “not work at all.” Among those who had used Lyrica, ten percent said that drug was “very effective,” versus 61 percent who reported no relief. Among those who had used Savella, ten percent rated the drug as effective, and 68 percent said it was ineffective.
Each of the three prescription drugs assessed in the survey is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of fibromyalgia, a chronic pain syndrome characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and multiple tender points in the neck, spine, shoulders and hips. An estimated five million Americans are afflicted by fibromyalgia, which is often poorly controlled by standard pain medications.

Great read. Something I did not know about the Indian heritage. .
I wish Polaris all the success with again, another resurrection of the Indian line. My opinion, is you have to stay true to the Indian look. That iconic bloodline appearance is always a head turner and known for its history.
I own a 1999 Chief manufactured Gilroy CA. I won high bid in 2002, from a desperate guy getting a divorce. “Isn’t that when you buy a bike”, but his misery became my pleasure.
Indian flare, and the S&S 88 twin which loves weather like todays ride, 53 degrees, if it wasn’t so windy, I would have loved it better.

HEALDSBURG JAZZ FESTIVAL COMING–For its 16th annual affair, May 30 – June 8, the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, located in the Sonoma County wine country, only 70 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, gets the blues – and is very happy about it. Blues icon Charlie Musselwhite is guest of honor and will blow his unmistakable harp with not only fellow blues artists like Elvin Bishop and Guy Davis, but also with jazz star Joshua Redman and Latin-jazz ace John Santos. What a great way this will be for festival goers to witness firsthand the critical connection between jazz and the blues.
Audiences have come to expect greatness at the Healdsburg Fest, and the 2014 edition does not disappoint. Besides those listed above, other heavy hitters include:
Ron Carter, one of the most acclaimed bassists in jazz history, performs with a blazing quartet featuring sublime pianist Renee Rosnes, who is also leading her own show.

Shelby will celebrate her with his big band and the 100-plus HJF Freedom Jazz Choir.
Violinist Mads Tolling pays a tribute to his great inspiration, violinist Jean Luc Ponty, in a fusion extravaganza at Spoonbar.
Singer-guitarist Guy Davis – one of the blues headliners performing with Charlie Musselwhite – will serenade diners during a Blues Brunch at Davis Family Vineyards.

HELPING WITH HORSEPOWER–kick starts “Reservation Restoration” in Pine Ridge, South Dakota
The Heart of the Reservation Restoration
MITCHELL, SD – Joel and Jacki Tomkinson, head of the Reservation Restoration project, are utilizing the Helping with Horsepower Bike Rebuild Program curriculum to provide students with hands-on repair and customization skills using an Ironhead donated by Black Hills Harley-Davidson of Rapid City, SD.
Throughout the program the youth will be developing problem-solving skills, self-confidence, and learning an important life lesson: You can repair and rebuild anything in your life with the right tools and inspiration.
“My husband Joel and I are heading up Pastor Mike Brennan’s Reservation Restoration Project. We work with the youth and train them to restore motorcycles, while teaching them how the Lord restores our lives,” said Jacki Tomkinson.
Many industry-leading companies recognized the value of this project, and provided donations, including Klock Werks Kustom Cycles, Black Hills Harley-Davidson. The Rez Rocket Garage was built specifically for the project with a lot of donated time and materials.
The Reservation Restoration project is a part of Youth Evangelism Strategies, Inc. larger vision of the restoration of the Lakota Nation, headed up by Pastor Mike “TwoShadows” Brennan. “The Helping With Horsepower curriculum and mission fits well with the mission of Youth Evangelism Strategies, Inc. and their efforts to provide restoration as well as valuable life skills to youth in Pine Ridge and the surrounding areas,” states Laura Klock, Co-Founder of Helping With Horsepower. “We are excited to help them have a very successful program!”
In addition to providing practical experience and life skills, Reservation Restoration will benefit from Helping with Horsepower™, as the finished motorcycle will be raffled to raise needed funds for Youth Evangelism Strategies, Inc.
“Industrial Arts are undervalued and our educational system has systematically eliminated shop class, explained Pastor Mike “TwoShadows” Brennan. “Where it is not undervalued is in the marketplace, which has seen a greater and greater demand for the skilled craftspeople.” “Reservation Restoration provides a new option for graduates, as Black Hills Harley will hire a number of the builders who complete the training.”
Reservation Restoration is the first of many projects planned at the Rez Rocket Garage. Youth Evangelism Strategies, Inc. needs donations to get started including a shop press, motorcycle jack, chop saw, drill press, grinder and welding helmets for kids. Currently the bike build team is looking for donations of paint and tins.

MOTORCYCLE DOCUMENTARY’S WORLD PREMIERE TO BE HELD IN BELLINGHAM, WA– The world premiere of P51 Picture’s feature film Out of Nothing will be held May 17th at 8pm at the Mt. Baker Theatre in Bellingham, WA. The film, from Producers Ryan Stiles & Andrew Lahmann and Director Chad DeRosa, is the inspiring true story of four men who set out to conquer land speed records on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
It is the first local production to boast such a large-scale public premiere. DeRosa, whose photography has been published in Hot Bike and The Horse-Backstreet Choppers, has ventured into film before.
His first film, Ripped Wide Open III, was released worldwide in 2004. DeRosa teamed up with Lahmann and Stiles last year to help bring this incredible story to the big screen. Out of Nothing, a feature-length documentary, follows brothers Mark & Carl Bjorklund from Bellingham, WA, as they team up with friends Jason Omer & Bill Woods in order to overcome nearly impossible odds.
They must work together as they battle a gauntlet of mounting obstacles such as finances, family issues, anxiety disorder, in-team conflict, severe weather, and hundreds of other racers╜ all while attempting to set records at breakneck speeds on homemade machines.

In case you are not familiar with the Outlaw Street Class, it’s designed for the fastest street ridden Harley based motorcycles only. The only limitations on the engines are a 145 cubic inch maximum, and they must run on gasoline with no nitrous oxide. Engines can be carbureted or fuel injected, but must be naturally aspirated. The chassis must be built from a modified production OEM or aftermarket frame with a valid VIN, and a wheelbase of no more than 70”.
Entrants in the Outlaw Street class must be licensable for street use with OEM lighting, V-rated DOT tires, and no wheelie bars. Other than that, it’s just run hard, repeat as needed.

UNCLE MONKEY MENTIONS Freedom– It is a hard concept to really, truly wrap your mind around. We here in the west are quick to pound our chest and proclaim that we are the proud and free.
The sad thing is freedom is a mirage lingering on the horizon. For many of us we work an honest day work, ride our bikes in the meantime, we complain about politics to our friends but we never really do anything about it other than some grumbles. We could be plopped down in any part of the world and our lives would change very little. That is not freedom – only the allusion of freedom.
As we sit idly by watching our police forces militarize we blindly seek out more rules more regulations. I’m not sure what the tipping point was, what had caused us to shift our focus from freedom, true freedom to regulation?
I do remember growing up in the 70s. We didn’t have clasps and locks on the cabinets, our mothers never absently minded left us in the kitchen by ourselves. When I was bad in school I was sent to the Principal’s office and was punished by a leather strap across my behind (I still don’t swear). Trying out for sport teams was a try out. Not everyone made the team. The ones that didn’t spent the year shooting pucks into pails, snagging baseballs rolling off of roofs until we were good enough to make the team the next year.
We had winners and losers and even in the playground when the next goal won each and everyone of us knew exactly what the score was and who the real winner was. It drove us to be better. Sports were not for everyone though. Those that didn’t excel on the field read books, created art. Of my friends growing up some went on to play in the NHL, my cousin is a mover and shaker in Silicon Valley designing and programming many of the things we use today.
Others became mechanics and plumbers-the blue collar workers who keep this world running. Yet others became doctors and lawyers, others became successful actors and musicians, teachers and mothers. But somewhere someone decide to level the playing field, that we were all special little stars. Everyone made the team, everyone got a medal. That it wasn’t fair that someone would succeed where others couldn’t. That parenting should fall on someone else’s shoulder – daycares, teachers… the government.
Society forgot that it was suppose to be harder for the asthma kid with the deformed leg to play sports. Society forgot that those disadvantaged who truly wanted and worked hard still found success. We threw away personal responsibility, personal accountability. If a person backs over a kid in their driveway it’s not because they are a bad driver, not because they are a bad parent, not because they were not paying attention – it is because the company didn’t put sensors on the back of the car.
If a kid shoots up a school its not because of mental illness, not because of bad parenting or teaching – its because the government didn’t take away our guns (Considering the recent rash of stabbings in schools and malls it is obvious that person will use any and all things). Each of these small steps was on our freedom, pushing it a little farther down into the dirt.
Our last freedom is freedom of speech, that I’m allowed to speak my mind here. Freedom as long as I’m mindful of sponsors, event organizers.

I watched Louie playing as a small boy tearing his little matchbox cars up smashing them with a hammer (like his Dad with a car crusher in his scrap yard) lol.. and somehow I just knew he would grow up to be successful.
I’ve never personally been to Louie’s shop nor have I ever had a motorcycle worked on by Louie but I have heard all kinds of great stories about him as a businessman and friend to many and that his work is impeccable.
I couldn’t be more proud of my son and certainly cannot take credit for his accomplishments, but I am VERY proud of Louie for growing above and beyond and making something good out of his life.

MCQUEEN’S 275 GTB/4 TAKES CENTER STAGE AT RM’S FLAGSHIP MONTEREY SALE– BLENHEIM, Ontario (May 8, 2014) – Calling all Steve McQueen fans: RM Auctions, the world’s largest collector car auction house for investment-quality automobiles, will lift the gavel on the 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 formerly owned by the “King of Cool” at its flagship Monterey sale, which returns to California from August 15 to 16.
Sporting a distinctive shade of metallic gold called Nocciola, the vehicle on offer, chassis 10621, was special ordered by Hollywood Sport Cars for Steve McQueen in 1967, while he was filming The Thomas Crown Affair. McQueen, known for lightly customizing his cars, sent the car to be repainted Chianti Red prior to taking possession. He also requested that 10621 be fitted with the Borrani wire wheels from his beloved 275 GTB N.A.R.T. Spider, which was a victim of an unfortunate earlier crash, as well as equipped with a custom-designed driver’s side rear view mirror, a retractable radio antenna, and custom seat trim. Once complete, McQueen took delivery of the car while on the set of his legendary 1968 crime-drama Bullitt. It remained the only Ferrari in his renowned stable of sports cars for almost five years, before passing onto fellow actor Guy Williams, of Zorro and Lost in Space fame, in 1971.
After passing through a small number of other respected owners, 10621 was eventually purchased by its current owner in 2010, who commissioned Ferrari Classiche to complete a full restoration, returning the four-cam to McQueen’s personal specification. In March 2013, Ferrari signed an agreement with the owner to display the car in Museo Ferrari as part of the “From Cinecittà to Hollywood, all Ferraris in the Cinema” exhibition, featuring other Ferraris associated with the silver screen.
Chassis 10621 proved so popular with visitors that it has remained a feature attraction at the Maranello museum. Before its upcoming auction in Monterey, the McQueen Ferrari will be on display at RM’s Monaco sale this week (May 10), providing collectors with an advance inspection opportunity (Estimate available upon request).

The Twins at Twins Turbo in Long Beach received our intercooler from Bell Intercooler Friday afternoon. We had a quick team meeting on Monday afternoon in the Twins magic shop. The call this afternoon reported a completed, under the tail; isolator and carrier strapped mounting system.
Research indicates colder fuel packs the cylinders with more fuel, equaling more power. Our finished system will chill fuel lines, the fuel pump and one filter.
Ducted air will enter via the tail section providing needed air/over/ice/over/intercooler with a temperature of -110 degrees vs. 32 degrees freezing water.
We met again at Twins Turbo, noon Thursday as the Bikernet news is being fed into an army of smoking hot key boards tied to the computers located directly under the calloused fingertips of the hard working staff. A Huge Raisin Pie is on order.
Last Wednesday afternoon we shipped our Aero Charger Series 66 Turbo to Turbo Doc in Ogden, Utah for a once over pre Dan Thayer tune up in New York.
The Turbo arrived in Long Beach this afternoon with a clean bill of health, just in time to remount for the latest intercooler plumbing.
Monday afternoon the Doctor Willie removed the air plenum pieces for the trip to Marc Susman’s shop, Colorado Customs for a major modifications. Might be major to some but all in a days work for the Crew at Marc’s. The intercooler dry ice charge will enter via the backside of the air plenum. We had it aimed toward the front. Marc called Wednesday afternoon reporting the air plenum is in progress and nearly completed.
The 5-Ball racing Team arrived home last summer with a Thread Locker holder. Should you recognize it, send an address and we will return immediately.
Last week end the ECTA Ohio Mile kicked the season off. Friday and Saturday were windy and off and on. Sunday was a new day starting at 10:30 with an extended 6:00 quitting time. The Hot Rod Top Speed Shoot Out, Camaro driven by Bill Ammaral, “Death Proof” posted 208 mph. Firebird piloted by Brian Action, “Geezer 2 Express” ran a quicker 217.
Here at home the last couple of days the wind has been blowing at gale force. Not to worry, the hatches are battened down.
We have a big day tomorrow with major progress in the works. Our inner primary is at Spyke’s for a larger bearing upgrade. Then we build it one more time and prepare for shipping.

CONSTRUCTION: Custom tapered and TIG welded 16-gauge steel canister with 1.76″I.D. slip joint end. TIG welded, stamped steel hanger bracket with Biltwell anvil marking. Gold zinc plated 16-gauge perforated steel baffle tube with stamped and TIG welded end caps. Fiberglass packing around removable internal baffle assembly provides additional sound muffling and inhibits sparks during backfiring. Two finishes available: Triple chrome plating or matte black high-temperature powdercoating.
FITMENT: Biltwell mini mufflers fit over 1-3/4-inch O.D. open tube exhaust pipes with a minimum of 1-1/8 inch of straight tube at the end of the exhaust pipe. If your current straight pipes feature a removable baffle inside the tube end, it may be necessary to remove the baffle and associated mounting hardware to facilitate slip fitment of the Biltwell mini muffler over the tube end. Biltwell mini mufflers can be secured on the exhaust tube end with any standard P-clamp constructed for this purpose (not included), or with a Biltwell machined alloy muffler clamp. The TIG welded mounting strap on the back of the mini muffler canister provides a place to mount a bracket for custom installations.
NOTICE TO CALIFORNIA END USERS: Biltwell mini mufflers are designed to fit a variety of 1977 or older and 1978 or newer motorcycles as a “replacement part” as defined by the California Air Resources Board. To be legal for operation on or off highways in the state of California, any aftermarket part falling under CARB’s replacement part definition may not eliminate or replace any original emission control component(s), such as an oxygen sensor(s), catalytic converter(s), etc. If the motorcycle you plan to customize by installing Biltwell mini muffler(s) has a catalytic converter, please understand that removing either the catalytic converter and/or any oxygen sensor(s) on the exhaust system is a violation of CARB regulations.

My name is Mohammed Reza and I live in Birmingham , and I would like to present before you the following story.
Many years ago, I married a widow out of love who had an 18-year-old daughter.
After the wedding, my father, a widower, came to visit a number of times, and he fell in love with my step-daughter.
My father eventually married her without my authorization.
As a result, my step-daughter legally became my step-mother and my father my son-in-law.
My father’s wife (also my step-daughter) and my step-mother, gave birth to a son who is my grandchild because I am the husband of my step-daughter’s mother.
This boy is also my brother, as the son of my father.
As you can see, my wife became a grandmother, because she is the mother of my father’s wife.
Therefore, it appears that I am also my wife’s grandchild
.
A short time after these events, my wife gave birth to a son, who became my father’s brother-in-law, the step-son of my father’s wife, and my uncle.
My son is also my step-mother’s brother, and through my step-mother, my wife has become a grandmother and I have become my own grandfather.
In light of the above mentioned, I would like to know the following:
Does my son, who is also my uncle, my father’s son-in-law, and my step-mother’s brother fulfill the requirements for receiving childcare benefits?

THAT’S ALL THE NEWS FIT TO PRINT—I hate to say that, since news is never ending. About the time I try to wrap-up, more news pops onto the surface.
We are about to publish a major story on baggers and handling. I spent the afternoon with Matt Hotch discussing mostly bagger mods, which I will share with you in the near future. We are going to rebuild Krash Kranzler’s scooter, but the issue has opened a major flood of information. We hope to save lives during this process and make riding touring Harleys more fun for all of our readers for years to come.
Now, if only I can get Krash to publish that piece. We want your input moving forward. We plan to use a replacement Paughco frame, but before we order the modification we are open to any suggestions.
Hopefully I can ride the Mudflap girl FXR this weekend.
