Hey,
I had a strange day yesterday. My mission was pure creativity, to come up with an artistic notion for the Flying Piston Charity Builder’s Breakfast in Sturgis about a month away.
I was burning daylight with no concept, materials and limited time. It was 4th of July and my mind spun with my plans for getting on the road to Sturgis, which would cut my deadline back for making a metal piece and shipping it, or hauling it to Sturgis.
I went to the Long Beach VA for a healing hands treatment Tuesday and struggled trying for focus. My son wants me to write a book about my life and when I think about all the Bandit shit I’ve done and the renegades I’ve known, my head spins.
But there’s something I tell myself when I’m feeling down or stressed, and it always works, actually two things. First, ya gotta remember your thoughts are just that, “Thoughts.” So tell yourself, “Wow, that was an interesting thought. That’s all it was.”
And I remind myself, “I’m too strong to let shit bother me!” Works every time. At the end to the day I had something sorta amazing coming together. It’s something I’ve never done before. Then Jeremiah showed up with Ceviche, avocados, and marinated Chicken. I poured a glass of whiskey and the party started. We avoided the crowds and headed to the headquarters roof with the Redhead and his girlfriend Honor (I said her last name should be Everything) for the most amazing fireworks show on the planet.
I’ll show you more at the conclusion of the news.

· At World Ducati Week a jam-packed schedule of events, parties, motorcycle parades, shows, concerts, races on track and much more
Less than a month to go until the 10th edition of the World Ducati Week that will exhilarate the Romagna Riviera and the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”. From July 20-22, thousands of Ducatisti from all corners of the world will celebrate their passion for the legendary “Reds of Borgo Panigale.” Ducati announces day-and-night activities and events happening at the Circuit and along the Adriatic Riviera with a full schedule of events, parties, motorcycle parades, shows, concerts and races on track with professional riders of modern and historic Ducatis.
During the Press Conference at the Company’s headquarters, Andrea Dovizioso also surprised everyone by unveiling the Monster 1200 25° Anniversario, a limited edition dedicated to the iconic naked bike from Borgo Panigale.
The races
On Friday, July 20, a Flat Track Race will open the competitions with a direct elimination race for eight riders: Andrea Dovizioso, winner of the 2016 edition, Troy Bayliss, Danilo Petrucci, Jack Miller, Michele Pirro and others will battle it out on the seat of a Scrambler Flat Track Pro, specially set up in race configuration.
Lined up for Saturday, July 21, “The Race of Champions” is the real novelty of this 10th edition:, a track race that only Ducati could give its fans. Twelve Ducati riders of all times will duel each other on the track of the Misano World Circuit riding the Panigale V4 S, specially prepared in a “limited edition” with a racing configuration.
With free practices, qualifying practices and starting grid, it promises to be a unique experience and a chance to see some stiff competition with even a spectacular fly-by of The Frecce Tricolori Aerobatic Team. At the starting grid, the riders – like Dovizioso, Lorenzo, Davies, Melandri, Petrucci and Miller, also Bayliss and others still- will be ready to tough it out on the track in a battle for the highest step on the podium. Official timekeeper will be Locman, licensee of a line of watches dedicated to Ducati.
A motorcycle to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Monster
Produced in a limited edition of only 500, the Monster 1200 25° Anniversario features a three-colour Italian flag livery on the nose fairing, tank and passenger seat cover, inspired by the 2008 Monster S4RS Testastretta Tricolore from 2008. The special colour scheme partners perfectly with the seat and its embroidered 25th anniversary logo. The motorcycle, unveiled by the standard bearer of the Ducati Team, Andrea Dovizioso, will have an important space in the paddock of the WDW2018.
.
The public of the WDW2018 will have the chance to enter an exclusive “closed room” where they can admire a new Ducati motorcycle representing a preview of the Model Year 2019 which will be unveiled to the public during EICMA2018.
The 2018 edition of the WDW will include special “Rookie” ticket prices, for young people aged 18-25, who can purchase a 1-Day Pass at a special price. WDW2018 will also see a number of new initiatives dedicated to millennials, such as test rides with entry-level motorcycles and opportunities to tell and share emotions and experiences.
The WDW2018 offers plenty of opportunities for visitors to challenge themselves on a Ducati motorcycle. The Ducati Riding Academy and the Scrambler Days of Joy will be there with “nuggets” of the Enduro, Safety and Flat Track School courses. Over the three days participants will be able to take test rides of the Ducati and Scrambler range.
As with every edition, the 266 clubs (Desmo Owners Clubs) provide an international dimension and infuse a strong sense of belonging to the community. Boasting more than 35,913 members in 59 countries around the world, the DOCs are a key component of the Ducati universe.
Regular updates before and during the event are broadcasted via the new Official WDW App of World Ducati Week 2018. Download from Apple Store and Play Store.

Voted #1 beef burger for 2017 by The Illinois Beef Association!! Route No. 73 Brew & Chew in Pearl City, IL.
Missed my turn on the bike and ended up in Pearl City and found burger Nirvana!! It took me seven napkins to finish my burger. The Owner is the lead singer in 3 Rock bands.
The bun is so crispy, but does not overpower the star of the show, the fresh ground beef. The flavor of beef, the perfect seasoning and the crust from cooking on their griddle make this one of my all time favorite burgers.
Their fresh cut fries are also outstanding! They also have awesome Craft Beer on draft. Make sure and get to Rt. 73 Brew & Chew now!

Wherein a guy from Hawaii tries to make saving the environment attractive to men by starting a motorcycle club
There’s this guy named Scott Cooney. He’s the founder and CEO of a media company that includes the website Clean Technica, which is dedicated (among other things) to spreading the word about clean energy.
Not too long ago, Cooney decided that, in an effort to get men around the world more involved in saving the environment, he’d start a very manly motorcycle gang in which all the members ride electric bikes.
CHECK OUT: 2018 Zero SR – A Commuter’s Dream Bike
“Sometimes, men just need to know that fighting climate change can also kick serious ass,” said Cooney.
Ah, huh. HUH. Okay, so, how does he plan to do such a thing? Well, Cooney and a coalition of “sustainability business leaders” from Hawaii got together and drafted a request for proposal. The coalition, which includes both Clean Technica and The Blue Planet Foundation, proposed the foundation of an electric motorcycle gang in Honolulu, Hawaii. They then put the proposal out there on the internet and invited electric bike manufacturers and dealers to contact them for a fantastic opportunity.
“Electric motorcycle manufacturers and dealers are welcomed to submit proposals to sell or lend a bulk number of electric motorcycles to this group of business leaders for any type of special offer or at a discounted price, and for any period of time,” reads a portion of the RFP. “In exchange for these discounted rates and special offers, our electric motorcycle gang will showcase the bikes to the public and bring media attention to the manufacturer through group rides, educational outreach, and local sustainability events.
In addition, the electric motorcycle gang will be routinely covered on Cleantechnica, the world’s largest clean tech news website, with more than 4 million monthly readers and 1.5 million social media followers, the grand majority of whom are men with incomes above $100,000, mainly in the U.S. and Europe.”
It goes on to state that interested parties should send questions, comments, or proposals right to Scott Cooney. If you’re interested, you can read the entire RFP here. It’s sure something.
Look, we like electric bikes around here. We like them a lot in fact, but we’re not convinced this is a real tenable idea. That said, anything that gets the word out about electric motorcycles is pretty great in our book though, so we wish Cooney and his coalition luck. See you on the road soon, man!

THE FLORIDA FREEDOM FIGHT–As we prepare to celebrate the birthday of American democracy, Second Chances Florida wants to place a spotlight on some of the 1.4 million Floridians who are still fighting for the eligibility to participate in our democracy.
These are our friends and neighbors that want to be able to fully participate in their communities and build a stronger Florida. These are men and women who have served our country and placed their lives on the line to protect that very democracy. These are our family members that want to contribute and build stronger communities.
Will you help make a stronger Florida by supporting our work to pass Amendment 4, the Voting Restoration Amendment? Your gift of $4 today will help ensure that every Floridian hears our stories.
Here in Florida, we know our system is broken. There are countless stories of thousands of American veterans living in Florida that have been banned from voting for life because of a past conviction, even after they’ve completed their full sentence and paid their debt to society.
Former member of the U.S. Army Andrew Darling of Orlando, who served two tours in Iraq—in Baghdad and Kandahar—is a recent graduate of the University of Miami School of Law. Andrew said, “I spent seven and a half years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Iraq. Losing your eligibility to vote shouldn’t last longer than the sentence for the crime you committed. Having access to voting, the ability to vote, is fundamental to being an American and a Floridian.”
Amendment 4 will restore the eligibility to vote for Floridians that have earned a second chance.
Help us celebrate America’s Independence Day and thousands of Florida veterans by supporting the campaign today.

WE DON’T NEED IT NOW, BUT A READER WANTS TO KNOW —I had some questions about this tech about Heated Clothing. The Bikernet Baggers Editor in Chieftain immediately responded.
The lead is long enough to run pretty much out either side of the motorcycle and it would not be a problem with the clothing working. The only problem I would see is if the clothing was not in use you would have a long connector running? In this case it is neatly secured to the saddlebag crash bar.
The lead from the motorcycle to the clothing is a Quick Disconnect slide fit. No problem if you had to get off the bike quickly. It would Not damage the lead. See 6th photo down.
There is one fused power lead to the motorcycle if for and reason the hot lead became damaged the fuse would go and protect everything else and of course the ground is ground anyway.
A Y jumper cable comes off the lead to the battery and supplies power to jacket and pants which each have separate heat controls. If only one garment was used you would not need the Y.
The garments also have connectors in case you want to add gloves, socks etc. Note connector wires on sleeve of jacket all have little pockets for the wires to store in when not in use. See photo of jacket.
Looks like H-D did their homework on this.
The heated clothing comes with really good information and instructions. Depending on the rider preference some minor variations are possible

Greenland Continues To Gain Ice – 2 year in a row ‘which there has been a large increase in ice’
https://realclimatescience.com/2018/07/greenland-continues-to-gain-ice-2/
With only 30 days left to the Greenland melt season, it hasn’t started yet. Yet another catastrophe for climate alarmists.
Last year, DMI scientists tried blaming it on Hurricane Nicole, but there wasn’t any hurricane this year. Sea surface temperatures around Greenland are running very cold.
This is the hottest week of the year on the ice sheet, and temperatures are well below freezing.

AMA LEGISLATIVE NEWS– National and Regional News
MILWAUKEE – The Harley-Davidson Motor Co. announced it may shift to overseas production of motorcycles for the European market to avoid stiff tariffs approved by the European Union in retaliation for U.S. tariffs on European products.
Harley says President Donald Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminum will cost Harley as much as $20 million this year, with European Union retaliation adding $45 million in costs. The company has plants in India, Brazil and Australia, where production for its European customers will move. The European Union raised U.S. motorcycle tariffs from 6 percent to 31 percent. Harley sells about 40,000 bikes a year in Europe.
MEDINA, MINN. – Polaris Industries Inc., which produces the Indian brand of motorcycles, said it may shift some production to its plant in Poland because of the European Union tariffs on motorcycles with 500cc or larger engines.
The move would include the production of motorcycles aimed at the European market. Polaris said the tariffs will add $15 million a year to the company’s costs if it continues to ship U.S.-made motorcycles to Europe.
The Twin Cities Business Journal reports that Indian Motorcycles are manufactured and assembled in Roseau, Minn.; Spirit Lake, Iowa; Osceola, Wis. and Huntsville, Ala. Manufacturing and assembly also takes place in Monterrey, Mexico. Polaris’ Opole, Poland facility is 345,000 square feet and has a capacity for 500 employees, according to the company. It opened in 2014 for manufacturing off-road vehicles.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced higher proposed levels of ethanol for 2019, which could lead to increases in the number of stations selling fuel blends containing more than 10 percent ethanol by volume. The 2019 renewable volume obligations announced June 26 call for 19.88 billion gallons of ethanol to be blended into the nation’s vehicle fuel supply in 2019, up 3 percent from the 19.29 billion gallons mandated for 2018.
All of the proposed increase is in advanced biofuels-those made from non-food sources-while the amount of ethanol derived mainly from corn remains flat at 15 billion gallons.
The AMA opposes any increase in the amount of ethanol the government mandates for U.S. vehicle fuels, because none of the estimated 22 million motorcycles and ATVs currently in use are approved by the EPA to use fuels containing more than 10 percent ethanol by volume. The AMA also fears that higher-ethanol blends, such as E15 will begin to push ethanol-free and E10 fuel out of the marketplace, much the way E10 has marginalized E0.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The California Off-Road Recreation and Conservation Act (H.R. 857) has passed the U.S. House of Representatives. The AMA supports this bill, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Paul Cook (R-Calif.). The bill would establish or expand six Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Areas in the California desert.
Other areas would be designated as wilderness, primarily within these wilderness study areas and Death Valley National Park. H.R. 857 also would protect OHV users by ensuring that OHV areas cannot be closed by administrative action. The bill would add about 39,000 acres to the National Park System at Joshua Tree National Park and Death Valley National Park.
The bill also would designate about 18,000 acres of federal land as the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area, restricting large-scale projects, while preserving existing recreational and commercial uses. Motorized vehicle use would be unaffected.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The Boat Owners Association of The United States is surveying its members about their experiences with fuel that contains ethanol. The 13-question survey (http://sgiz.mobi/s3/EthanolSurvey) is intended to provide an understanding of how ethanol fuels are affecting recreational boating this summer, gauge opinions and seek comments related to the Renewable Fuel Standard.
BoatUS says that gasoline use has not increased as forecast when the RFS was enacted, which forces more ethanol into each gallon of gas. As with motorcycles, recreational boats are approved only for use of fuels containing up to 10 percent ethanol. However, 92 percent of readers of Boating Industry magazine reported in 2017 that they have seen damage caused by ethanol, which also decreases fuel economy.
State News
HONOLULU – Gov. David Ige (D) vetoed a bill that would have allowed motorcyclists to use the right shoulder to navigate around congested traffic. H.B. 2589 passed the state House and Senate, with a two-year sunset provision. Ige also has reportedly said he will veto any lane-splitting legislation that reaches his desk.
NEW YORK – The New York Motorcycle & Scooter Task Force has set up a Checkpoint Alert System for riders. The AMA urges New York-area riders to take advantage of this service.
Those who sign up for the Checkpoint Alert System get notifications about motorcycle-only checkpoints in New York City. The system also allows them to warn other riders about MOCs. The AMA supports the work of the NYMSTF on this practice and its fight for riders’ rights in the city.
Whether it’s discriminatory checkpoints, ticketing riders for daring to open their face shields at a stop light, unfair congestion pricing proposals or the unnecessary impounding of parked motorcycles for minor infractions, the NYMSTF has organized a community of riders to fight back. Motorcyclists can connect with the NYMSTF on its website (www.nymstf.org),
Facebook page (www.facebook.com/groups/nymstf/about) and Twitter to stay up to date on the group’s efforts to address motorcycling issues in New York City.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – S.B. 1316 has passed the state Senate and has been referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for consideration. This bill again attempts to deny the OHV community a long overdue opportunity for increased motorized recreational opportunities on property purchased using funds from the Off Highway Vehicle Trust Fund over 20 years ago.
This legislation ignores the fact that a majority of the opposition comes from local land owners, many of whom previously agreed to the acquisition, and disregards the legislature’s own approval of the purchase expressly for OHV recreation. This important State Vehicle Recreation Area has been part of the California State Parks system since 1980, when the site was purchased by the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
Prior to that the 1,500+ acres was privately owned and enjoyed by generations of motorized recreationists, including a period when it was operated as a private motorcycle park. AMA members and indeed all OHV recreationists must immediately contact their elected officials and remind them of the agreement that was made when the expansion properties were acquired.
It is also important to remind them that the program uses no general fund monies and is in fact based on a user-pay, user-benefit style model. Monies used to pay for the program include those taxes collected on fuel, SVRA entrance fees and vehicle registrations (green and red stickers).

Haven’t read your rag in years. Used to subscribe going back to 1975. Miss the ole’ days. I’m looking for a poem written by Gypsy called “Rode Rash Blues” published in a 1970s issue. I’m going to give it to my grandson, who just wiped out bad. I’m hoping to cheer him up.

DAVID ALLAN COE CONCERT NEWS–Like Merle Haggard before him, David Allan Coe served time in prison before setting his dreams on becoming a country music star. Coe headed to Nashville in 1967 and found his first big success over five years later — as a songwriter. As a singer, his biggest hits were “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile,” “The Ride,” “You Never Even Called Me by My Name,” “She Used to Love Me a Lot,” and “Longhaired Redneck.”
His best-known compositions are the No. 1 successes “Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)” (which was covered by Tanya Tucker) and “Take This Job and Shove It” (which was later covered by Johnny Paycheck and inspired a hit movie.) His defiant stance and love of motorbikes, multiple tattoos and ultra-long hair made him a natural ‘Nashville outlaw’, which he wrote about in the self-glorifying ‘Longhaired Redneck’ and ‘Willie, Waylon And Me.’
Coe’s musical style derives from blues, rock and country music traditions. His vocal style is described as a “throaty baritone”. His lyrical content is often humorous or comedic. Thomas Erlewine describes Coe as “a great, unashamed country singer, singing the purest honky-tonk and hardest country of his era…..He may not be the most original outlaw, but there’s none more outlaw than him.”

TRUMP SAYS HARLEY WILL TAKE A HIT–
Trump rails against Harley-Davidson, claims sales are down 7 percent.
Ryan calls tariffs ‘basically taxes’ amid Trump’s Harley-Davidson feud
Trump says Harley-Davidson’s planned overseas move will be its ‘end’
Trump slams Harley-Davidson over tariff dispute
WASHINGTON– President Trump in an interview aired Sunday, accused American motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson ?of using tariffs as an excuse to produce more bikes overseas.
“Look, I devoted a lot of time to Harley-Davidson. I treated ?them good. I guarantee you everybody that ever bought a Harley-Davidson voted for Trump,” Trump told Maria Bartiromo during a sit-down for her ?Fox ?News show “Sunday Morning Futures.”
“I guarantee you everybody that ever bought a Harley Davidson voted for Trump,” the president claimed. “I don’t know if you know that. I would have to – they call them Bikers for Trump. There’s hundreds. ”
?T?he Wisconsin-based company announced Monday that it would move some of its production overseas to avoid retaliatory tariffs enacted by the European Union? in response to Trump’s trade policies.
The president ?also ?claimed Harley-Davidson had planned to make the move for the past six months.
“They made this deal at the beginning of the year, long before they ever heard of the word tariff,” Trump said. “They made this deal at the beginning of the year. And I don’t think they should do it.”
“Increasing international production to alleviate the EU tariff burden is not the company’s preference, but represents the only sustainable option to make its motorcycles accessible to customers in the EU and maintain a viable business in Europe,” the company said last week.
“I think that Harley is an American bike. It’s an American motorcycle and they should build them in this country,” ?Trump told Bartiromo?, repeating comments he made earlier in the week?. “They shouldn’t play cute.”
Trump suggested the company would take a “big hit” for not building its bikes in the United States.
The company recently finished construction of a plant in Thailand.
“I know those people. Those are my voters,” he said of Harley enthusiasts. “They don’t want Harley-Davidson getting cute to make $2 more.”

LEGISLATIVE NEWS FROM The American Motorcyclist Association supports the following legislation in Florida.
H.B. 33: Texting while driving, removes the requirement that enforcement be accomplished as a secondary action.
Update: Died in committee
The American Motorcyclist Association opposes the following legislation in Florida.
H.B. 583 and S.B. 346. Both bills raise the age at which a motorcyclist is no longer required to wear a helmet from 18 to 21 and require a moped registered to someone younger than 21 to display a license plate. The AMA is opposed to imposing additional restrictions on adult riders.
For information on other legislation the AMA is monitoring in Florida, please visit our legislative report.

NEVER STOP AND NEVER GIVE UP—I know some of my stress is self induced with too many projects, but I’m not stopping until I handle some and get them off my plate.
On the other hand some of the stress comes from our government. I’d like to produce a report on all the government related shit we need to do or pay for every month, but it’s depressing. There must be a way.
I’m working with Tony Sanfelipo and others on another report regarding anti-tampering laws and the California Air Resources Board. Hang on for that. We need to make a difference.
In the meantime, let’s do fun shit, ride hard, build very cool shit, hope someone will make a movie out of Sam ‘Chopper’ Orwell and save motorcycling forever. Like Sugar Bear said this morning, “Dreaming takes us there.”
So, I’m pondering whether to go all deco or dragon with my sculpture.
This is still the restored Panhead deal of the year. It was built to be the exact replica of the Pan on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post in 1951. It’s amazing and would make a helluva addition to any collection. Drop me a line if you’re interested.
I’m still working on my bronze effort. Too bad Jeff Decker isn’t next door, but I do have access to several local artists, who are very helpful.
So, I was forced to make a quick run to Home Depot on July 4th. Fortunately they had the shit I needed to keep the art project rolling.
Here’s the start. I finished two wings, a sketch, part of the base, and I was sorta proud of myself for getting this concept off the ground. The goal will be to hit this for a chunk of time every day until it’s done. Hang on. Let’s see how far I get before Sunday.
In the meantime, ride free forever!
