What a week, Bandit and the 5-Ball racing team left the confines of California for a chance to make Bikernet History on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Reports are rolling in and we are trying to keep up with the latest.

Ray Wheeler and his Steed have completed scrutinering and are going to make their first pass on the salts Monday morning, here is to hoping that Ray makes it to the magical 200 mark and finally earns his red hat.

Bandit and Toby dragged the Bonne Belle back to Bonneville for its second bite at the salt, during tech today they got news that the 45 flathead engine in the Bonne Belle is not classified as a pushrod engine so it is going to be running in the Run What Ya Brung Class.

Lets all hoist a glass of Jack to the Salt gods that the Salt will be fast and safe.
Lets hit the news. The Sunday Post is sponsored by 5-ball racing leathers.

BAKER BRINGS FACTORY HARLEY HOME FOURTH AT VIRGINIA MEGA-MILE — Harley Wrecking Crew Rider Jared Mees is Fifth, Drops to Second in Season Points Battle
NEW KENT, Va. (August 24, 2014) – Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® Factory Team rider Brad Baker finished fourth after leading early laps in the AMA Pro Grand National Twins main on the Virginia Mega-Mile at Colonial Downs. The race was won by Bryan Smith on the Crosley Radios/Villa-Esparza Kawasaki.
Harley-Davidson® Wrecking Crew rider Jared Mees started the race from the fourth row and finished fifth on the Rogers Racing/Las Vegas H-D/Blue Springs H-D Harley-Davidson® XR750 motorcycle.
Baker, riding the Factory Harley-Davidson XR750 motorcycle, finished second in his heat race, was fourth in the Dash for Cash bonus sprint race, and qualified on the front row for the 15-lap main.
“We had a really strong Harley-Davidson all night,” said Baker. “But I had to ride the wheels off it in the main. I had the throttle pinned all the way, and on this big track that really stresses the engine. The track surface and length here are a real challenge.”
Smith jumped the start of the main on the 1.25-mile dirt oval and was forced to line up in the fourth row for the restart. Baker took the lead on the restart and held the point for the first four laps of the race until he was passed by Smith, who had raced his way through the field in five laps. Smith opened a three-second gap on Baker, Montgomeryville Cycle Center Kawasaki rider Jake Shoemaker and GE Capital KTM rider Johnny Lewis. Lewis dropped out with a mechanical problem on lap 12 as Baker and Shoemaker engaged in a fierce battle for second place.
On the last lap of the race, Baker’s motorcycle suffered a mechanical problem coming out of the final turn and he was passed by Jake Johnson on the Ramspur Winery/Lloyd Brothers Motorsports Kawasaki as he coasted across the finish line. Shoemaker finished second.
The win and five bonus points for winning the Dash for Cash boosted Smith past Mees in the series standings. After 12 of 15 events on the AMA Pro Grand National schedule, Smith leads with 224 points. Mees is second with 218 points, followed by Johnson with 206 points. Zanotti Racing/Moroneys H-D rider Kenny Coolbeth Jr., who finished eighth at Colonial Downs, is in fourth place with 171 points. Baker is sixth with 149 points.
AMA Pro Grand National Twins racing resumes on August 31 on the Springfield Mile at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill.

Motus Awaits EPA Certifications, Launches Website, Goes Land Speed Racing —
Motus Motorcycles says it has successfully completed durability and emissions testing on its MST series of American sportbikes and has submitted the results to EPA/CARB.
According to the manufacturer, the independent testing demonstrates impressive performance and low tailpipe emissions. Motus will begin production of MST and MSTR motorcycles once the test results are certified by the governing bodies.
“It is a long and complex process, but we’re happy with the results of the tailpipe emissions and fuel permeation tests for the MST series,” said Motus Powertrain Manager, Jim Ray. “We will always work to improve, but at just 43% of EPA’s standards for hydrocarbons and NOx emissions and just 23% of the carbon monoxide standards, we think it’s a good starting point.”
“The Baby Block is under-stressed and has a great engine management system,” said Design Director Brian Case, “and we are glad to have the lab testing behind us so we can prepare for production as we await certification.”
Motus will offer press and public demo rides once the MST’s are certified “street legal” by the governing bodies. Meanwhile, Motus has launched a new website at motusmotorcycles.com and is registered to compete at the Bonneville Speed Trials in Utah August 23-28.
The 1650cc Motus MV4 Baby Block® powers America’s only line of sport touring motorcycles, including the MST and more premium MSTR. Making up to 180 horsepower and 126 ft lbs of torque, the Baby Block is also available for other applications that could benefit from a light, compact engine.
After revealing early concepts motorcycles in 2011, Motus has since extensively developed the motorcycles to excel in performance, comfort and range. Motus motorcycles will be sold through a dealer network stretching from Seattle to Miami.

BIKERS OF LESSER TOLERANCE (BOLT) and the Lane splitting debate —
In CA, as you probably know, lane filtering (as we prefer to call it) is allowed…there is no law that says we can or cannot split lanes. Last Senator Beall introduce SB350, a law restricting lane filtering. We do not want a law. To counter this, rights activists from BRO (Biker Rights Organization) had several discussions with California’s Office of Traffic Safety, who in turn were working with the CHP.
There is a motorcycle safety committee…at this time I can’t remember what it is a called, but they came out with Lane Filtering guidelines; in print, on CHP website, recommended by OTS and published in the DMV motorcycle safety booklet. We all agreed to this as a step to stop SB350. With the success of our first Unification Rally and constant pressure from BRO, BOLT and MMA…SB350 was Shelved…I should mention AMA also supported the guidelines and was opposed to any legislature.

The above info is from my own public information request. One person, Ken Mandler, doesn’t like lane filtering. On his actions alone all guidelines have been pulled…not published…not on websites, no longer in the DMV motorcycle safety booklet. In spite of Ken Mandlers accusation, the CHP was not enforcing those guidelines (tickets), it was simply a public safety statement. The CHP, OTS and the DMV all do NOT want any legislation regarding lane filtering. We believe this action caused by Ken Mandler will reopen the door to regulations. Lane Filtering is a common practice in most countries around the world.
In CA, we have the highest number of motorcycle riders of any state AND the lowest percentage of rear end collisions to motorcycle riders. This has been 100% attributed to lane filtering.

The Tipton Murder Investigation Day 56 — from www.agingrebel.com
It has been eight weeks since a patched member of the Black Pistons Motorcycle Club named Zachariah “Nas T” Tipton was shot and killed in a parking area outside Nippers Beach Grille in Jacksonville Beach, Florida by a member or prospect of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club.
Tipton was shot and killed at 5:15 p.m. Pacific Time on June 26 and The Aging Rebel became aware of the incident eight hours later at about 1:15 a.m. Pacific Time on June 27. The initial tip included a link to television station WJXT’s account of the shooting and stated:
“It’s been reported that a Black Piston is dead, shot four times in the face. The shooter is reported as an Iron Order douche. It was a fair fight and the IO decided to shoot the BP in the face four times. Just what our lifestyle (club, real clubs) doesn’t need is these fucking fools doing this shit. These muthafuckas need to fucking go!”
“Contact your sources, I’m sure they will verify those involved and the cowardly way the IO douche handled himself.”
First Accounts
WJXT and competing news outlets reported that Tipton had been shot four times and that the shooter had been taken into custody. The next morning on the phone, a police spokesman in Jacksonville Beach began what was to become an endless editing and revision of the first reports of the homicide. Jacksonville Beach Police Sergeant Tommy Crumley said there had been no arrests and that the apparent shooter had been released. Crumley declined to say whether the apparent shooter’s hands had been bagged and tested for gunshot residue.
A police bulletin issued by the Okaloosa County, Florida Sheriff’s Office about 24 hours after the shooting stated: “Be aware as some members of law enforcement and the military are part of Iron order MC as indicated below. A ‘kill on sight’ order was issued by Outlaws/Black Pistons for members of IOMC. Be aware as MC traffic may increase due to upcoming funeral.
The Iron Order M/C officers I met with wanted to get the message out that they are not a one percenter motorcycle club, nor do they aspire to become one or to be known as one. Normally, at least in my experience and interaction with the club, they are LEO friendly and most wear a Maltese Cross as an indicator they are armed. Of the club officers I met with this evening, all are former law enforcement officers with the exception of one – and he is an Active Duty First Sergeant affiliated with Security Forces. So the information I received today came from a VERY RELIABLE source. So far, what they have on the shooting in Jacksonville is as follows: Sometime on the evening of 6/26/2014, two IOMC prospects were accosted by numerous members of the Black Pistons M/C at a gathering in Jacksonville. A member of the Black Pistons was shot and killed. The IOMC shooter has been released without being charged, as the shooting has been ruled ‘self defense.’ Obviously this does not sit well with the Black Pistons and/or their affiliates, The Outlaws MC per info received this evening, there has been a ‘kill on sight’ order issued by the Black Pistons/Outlaws for any member of the IOMC.
We have a pretty big contingent of IOMC between Navarre, Crestview, Florala, and Andalusia, not including their sister club, The Iron Rockets. Also, we do have members of the Black Pistons residing in our area, as well as members of The Outlaws.”

Clarence Wells at last surrendered To fate’s fitful draughy phases, And, one day, sir, with a razor Off he swiped those crinose daisies!
— Logansport Pharos-Tribune , 1924
... it must be allowed that the title has not devolved upon a beardless boy; for if crinose appearance give an imposing air, his Grace has strong pretensions to consequence on that score.
— Thomas Brown, the Elder, Bath: A Satirical Novel , 1818
Origin:
Crinose finds its origin in the Latin crinis meaning “hair.” The suffix -ose is used in formation of adjectives borrowed from Latin to denote “full” or “abounding in.” Crinose entered English in the 1720s.

From the McQuiston Gang
Gaylord Street rests on the west side of Long Beach, California, a bunched industrial community of little stucco shops, cinder-block buildings, even a small home or two, and oil refineries next to the Port of Long Beach. It’s the low rent district.

There’s an unmarked shop next to a blacked-out iron gate very close to the end of Long Beach proper, the largest city in Los Angeles. McQuiston’s Custom Cycles is definitely on the outskirts of the city, but it’s packed with projects. Ryan McQuiston loves choppers. “But everyone wants to build bobbers these days,” he says.
Ryan has his own code of the West. He loves building motorcycles with his shop mouse, cute Oginee (she works as hard as any of the guys). It’s not about the money; it’s about helping a brother or sister hit the road in rustic style. “Nobody has any money,” Ryan said.
He prefers to work on Knuckles and Pans, but will work on anything delivered to his shop unceremoniously, usually in old milk crates and oil-soaked cardboard boxes, like this 650 XS Yamaha. Right now he’s inundated with Triumphs and Ironhead Sportsters.

Doobie Brother Patrick Simmons to Participate in Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run 2014 – Cross-Country Journey Leads up to New Album Release
August 21, 2014, Nashville, TN…Patrick Simmons, founding member of The Doobie Brothers and longtime motorcycle enthusiast, will ride coast to coast, with his wife, Cris Sommer Simmons in the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run 2014 in September. The duo will journey more than 4,100 miles from Daytona, FL to Takoma, WA on their 1934 and 1929 Harley-Davidsons with stops in GA, TN, MO, KS, CO, UT, N V, ID, and WA. Cris, who is a well-known author and member of the National Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Anamosa Iowa and the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Westerville, Ohio, and the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame, will be raising money on the ride for Stand Up To Cancer, in honor of their son, Pat Jr., who battled testicular cancer last year and now is cancer free.

The Cannonball Run began in 2010 as a ride to showcase the restoration and power of antique motorcycles built before 1915. It has since evolved into a cross-country endurance ride held every other year with over 100 participants, which now includes bikes built before 1936.
In preparation for the ride Patrick notes, “Cris and I are excited, and so ready to head out on the 2014 Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run. We have been working on our bikes for over a year now.” Cris previously participated in the 2010 Cannonball Run, where she was the only American female out of 45 riders. She completed the over 2,800 miles and finished in 20th place.
This year Patrick Simmons will be riding a 1929 Harley-Davidson JD, nick-named “Norge” because of its similar blue color to Norge refrigerators once popular in the 1950s. As for Cris’ choice, she explains, “My bike “Buddy” is a 1934 Harley-Davidson, named after it’s previous owner, well-known Hollywood stunt man Bud Ekins. Pat bought the bike from Bud many years ago and I stole it from Pat in 1993, vowing to ride it ‘someday’.”
Patrick Simmons has spent the majority of the summer on tour with The Doobie Brothers and preparing for their upcoming release Southbound. The album celebrates the band’s iconic hits re-recorded alongside some of country music’s biggest stars (including Blake Shelton, Zac Brown Band, Sara Evans, and Brad Paisley). After his participation in the Cannonball Endurance Run, Simmons will continue to tour with the band and plan for the upcoming release of Southbound November 4, on Arista Records Nashville.
