Hey,

Another interesting week in Paradise. This weekend the good Dr. Hamster and I are riding into the desert to perform a tech on his 200,000 mile ’89 Evo dresser. This tech will contain some interesting aspects and a couple of simple ones.

We’re riding over to Bennett’s Performance in Long Beach tomorrow to dyno the old dresser. Then when we ride out Saturday morning, we’ll top off and check his mileage to the Marengo Caverns and the Chop N Grind Performance Center.

We are going to switch out his duals exhaust system from a D&D 2-into-1 performance system. We’ll change the air cleaner to a high-flow K&N and then switch out his entire ignition system for a new Compu-Fire Single Fire system. Usually single fire entails dual coils, new mounts some wiring adjustment. Not so this time. This is a clean, single coil system. We’ll bring you all the results, Yucca Valley Girls and how many real palms reside in 29 Palms, California (call Chop N Grind if you need service work in that area, (760) 910-5010). Let’s hit the news:

D&D’s NEW QUIET RIOT PIPE FOR 2009 BAGGERS–The new 2009 Boss Fat Cat – 2:1 Concentric Baffle drops 10db at full throttle and moves the peak torque down about 1000 rpms, thus making it more usable and enjoyable. For riders that have a stereo, you can now hear the stereo and run a performance pipe at the same time. The 2009 Boss Fat Cat pipe is low tone in cruise mode.

“I definitely feel there is “no compromise” when it comes to D&D Performance Exhausts!” – Kevin Lang, Parts Manager, New Roc Harley-Davidson

“I work in a shop and see a lot of pipes but there is nothing that delivers the rich tone and produces the horsepower like a D&D Fat Cat Pipe with a Zipper’s Hi-Flow air cleaner.”-Jacob, Ft. Worth

MRFrelease

REGISTER NOW FOR MEETING OF THE MINDS!–The pre-registration deadline for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation?s (MRF) 25th Anniversary Meeting of the Minds (MOTM) conference is quickly approaching. The MOTM conference this year will take place in Bloomington, MN from September 24-27. You can save $10 by registering for MOTM prior to the August 24 pre-registration deadline. The pre-registration price for MRF members is only $70.00, and it is $80.00 for non-MRF members.

After August 24, the price will increase to $80.00 and $90.00 respectively. To register, simply go to the MRF website (www.mrf.org) and click on Conference Info, then register for Meeting of the Minds 2009. If you prefer, you can mail a check to the DC office. A mail-in registration form can be downloaded from the MRF website.

The MOTM will be held at the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel, Minneapolis South. Our group room rate is only $89.00 for single and double rooms. They also are offering special rates for our group in their Cabana, Deluxe and Club rooms. Reservations must be made no later than August 24 to take advantage of the group rate. This is a really good deal, as regular room rates start at $149.00. Hotel information can also be found in the Conference Info area of the MRF website.

There is some conflicting information about the airport shuttle service. Even an upcoming article in THE MRF REPORTS unfortunately has misinformation. The discontinuation of the hotel shuttle service is what has led to the confusion. However, there will be hotel shuttle service Thursday-Sunday, including limited service to and from the Mall of America. The Conference Info section of the MRF website has the correct information.

While you are on the website, please take a look at the agenda for the conference, as there are many new workshops being offered this year. For instance, our panel discussion on Saturday morning, regarding political activism, will have panelists that include not only motorcyclists? rights activists, but also politicians who may or may not support all of our issues. It should be a lively discussion on exactly how the political process works from the perspective of our elected officials.

Because this is the 25th Meeting of the Minds, we expect to see lots of people who have been involved in our movement through the MRF for many years. A wealth of knowledge and history will be present at this year?s MOTM; we hope you will be too.

KRAWIEC BUILDS POINTS LEAD WITH SEMI-FINAL RUN AT BRAINERD–Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines Riders Stay 1-2 in Season Points Standings.

BRAINERD, Minn. (August 16, 2009) ? Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec leads the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle series by more than 100 points after racing a Harley-Davidson V-Rod to the semi-final round of eliminations at the Lucas Oils NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.

Krawiec?s closest rival in the points race both went out in the first round of eliminations. Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines, who is in second place, lost to Stone Mountain/Granite Mountain Harley-Davidson Buell rider Junior Pippin. Krawiec scored a first-round win over Nitrofish.com Buell rider Matt Smith, who is third in points. In round two, Krawiec defeated MPR/Damn Sports Suzuki rider Michael Phillips. Krawiec lost in round three to top-qualifier Hector Arana. Arana got a win in the final when Pippin fouled at the starting line.

?Our focus is to maintain our momentum, go rounds, and do well at Indy,? said Krawiec, the defending Pro Stock Motorcycle champion. ?A run to the semi-final round today caps another great weekend for the Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines team.?

Hines lost at the starting line, with a 0.073 reaction time and 7.034 run to the 0.027 start and 7.056 run of Pippin.

?I was shooting for about 0.050 on the tree,? said Hines. ?He got that start on me and beat me to 60 feet, and then I just ran out of track before I could catch him. The good news is that my teammate beat Matt Smith in round one and kept him from catching me for second place in points.?

After the Brainerd event, six Pro Stock Motorcycle riders have qualified for the 2009 Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship. Hines and Krawiec are joined by Arana, Smith, Horne Racing Buell rider Doug Horne, and Team Scream Suzuki rider Craig Treble. Only the top 10 points earners in the class will take part in the Countdown playoffs, which begin at the North Carolina Nationals on Sept. 17-20.

After 10 events on the 17-race 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock Motorcycle schedule, Krawiec leads the series with 911 points. Hines is second with 803, followed by Smith with 668. Arana moves up to fourth with 644 points, followed by Treble with 641 and Horne with 632.

The next event on the 2009 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle schedule is the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals, Aug. 20-23 at Maple Grove Raceway near Reading, Pa.

The Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team is sponsored by Matco Tools, Dunlop and S100.

Buell

NEWS FROM CHOP N GRIND PERFORMANCE CENTER–Chop N Grind Black Magic Night Fighter Mock up….Last week Chop N Grind started the mock-up of Robert Jr`s 1999 X1 Buell lighting “Chop N Grind crew member”. It all stared with a $500 used Buell. In Chop N Grind fashion bought the bike from local Drunk who forgot he had the bike sitting in a corner of his garage of buried parts and tools.

Buellnbob

We put a battery in her and, “Bam,” she came to life. The Buell is just in the mock up stage, we need to invade the Bikernet headquarters for more parts. Wilburn Roach is a great guy at the headquarters as long as the Bandit guy isn`t around watching over us. We need to find Bandits secret stash of parts. I think the crew is talking about kidnappin Sin Wu..

BROTHERS CAN’T CATCH A BREAK– This was sent to me by a retired friend in law enforcement.

Few days ago at 11pm at the largest intersection in ID, some gypsy jokers, & Jackals out of Oregon were heading back. A few Brother Speed were with them also. The traffic cam caught one blocking traffic so they can all go as a group.

They called in the gang task force, state, nampa & sheriffs & at an exit ramp a few miles west in Nampa, pulled them all over. Searched all & busted 1. Then wrote the tix. Talk about harassment.

Massive traffic stop leads to 46 citations ? of bikers in Meridian – STATESMAN STAFF

MERIDIAN – Forty-six motorcyclists believed to be part of the Gypsy Jokers motorcycle gang were cited for flouting traffic laws when they passed through the Treasure Valley late Wednesday, according to Meridian, Boise and Nampa police officials. At least one was arrested on a drug-related charge.

The group, coming from the annual motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D., blocked intersections on Eagle Road in Meridian to allow members to pass through red lights, according to Meridian Police Chief Jeff Lavey.
