Good news, the recession is abating, or we’re back on the road to recovery, according to several national reports. According to the Week magazine, in 20 cities, home sales are up .5 percent. It’s the first gain since 2006. The Standard and Poor’s Index hit 1,000 for the first time since November. I say we don’t buy or support bank stocks, unless they didn’t take bailout funds, or return them. When I was making trips to Vietnam I attempted to procure a Bank of America loan for a new ’69 XLCH. They turned me down for two reasons: I was in the Navy, and I wanted a motorcycle. My parents and I had been customers for 15 years. We pulled all of our accounts and never went back. Now they’re at it again, fined 32 million for lying about bonuses.
Shit, I’m trying to stick with good news. Australians and Swedes are headed back to the coast, turning in their bikes, hanging at the Bikernet Headquarters and flying home. Consequently, the Bikernet staff was introduced to Vegemite, by Kraft, an Australian tradition. Don’t know if I’ll ever be the same. Let’s hit the news. Then I’ll bring you a Bikernet project and content report at the end. It’s all good:
REGINA, CANADA BIKERS nab masked man with machete– It was bikers versus a machete-wielding robber in Regina on Monday night ? and the bikers won.
According to Regina police, a group of 10 “motorcycle enthusiasts” were having coffee at a Tim Hortons restaurant on North Albert Street when, at around 9 p.m., they spotted some suspicious activity nearby.
Two men were observed walking up to a Domo Gas station, with one of them carrying a machete. When the two pulled on masks, Rob Hove and a motorcycling friend jumped into action.
“The gas station attendant came out and started yelling that he was being robbed,” Hove said. “The guy with the machete was swinging it at the gas station attendant, so we went and stopped them.”
The bikers grabbed the man with the machete, seized the weapon and held him for the police.
Hove wound up getting cut but he didn’t go to the hospital. “Krazy Glue works better,” he said. “It hurts to go to the hospital.”
Some people are calling Hove and his friends heroes, but Hove sees it differently.”That’s not right to see him steal their money,” he said. “It costs me more for gas.”
A 22-year-old man has been charged with several offences, including armed robbery and assault with a weapon. Police continue to search for a second suspect.

BIKERNET SUPPORTS HOMES FOR ABANDONED YOUTH AND YOU COULD WIN–I am the founder and long-time advocate of a very special charity called Youth Services Network. I am retired now, but continue to serve as a volunteer.
Youth Services Network has operated three residential homes since 1985 for abused, neglected and abandoned boys age 12 to 18 in the San Fernando Valley. These boys’ deserve more than they have gortten in life and that is why I am asking for your help to keep this organization going.
I’m helping to organize the third annual “Survivors Raffle” fundraiser for YSN. It is called the “Survivors Raffle” because the last ticket drawn wins $10,000.
We have a total of 300 tickets to sell no later than September 10th 2009. The cost of these tickets is $100.00 each. You can buy entire tickets for yourself or split them with family and friends.
On September 20th our Board President, Bob Schad, will host a BBQ at his home located at 3600 Mound View Avenue in Studio City, CA 91604. You are welcome to attend and bring your friends. You do not need to be present to win. The staff and board members will all be there and at this BBQ we will draw every ticket out of a bowl and pin them up on a board with 300 spaces. Every 25th ticket will win a prize worth more than the price of a ticket.
Only 300 tickets will be sold!
The last ticket drawn will win $10,000!
300 to 1 odds, that’s much better than the lottery. All donations are fully tax deductible andare going to a really fantastic cause.
To buy a ticket or tickets (the more you buy the better chance you have to win) please send your checks made out to Youth Services Network to my attention at the address listed below. Make sure you include your return address and we will send you your ticket/s, information on the BBQ and YSN non-profit tax ID #.
Please email me to let me know if you will be sending a check.
Thank you very much for helping Youth Services Network make a difference in these boys’ lives.

BIKERNET OPEN CAJUN LESSONS– Iced tea is appropriate for all meals, and you start drinking it when you’re two. We do like a little tea with our sugar.
“Bacards and forards” means, “I know everythin’ ’bout you.”
The word “jeet” is actually a phrase meaning, “Did you eat?”

JOKES FROM THE BIKERNET BLONDE VAULT–Two Blondes With Hammers… Lynn and Judy were doing some carpenter work on a Habitat for Humanity house. Lynn was nailing down house siding, would reach into her nail pouch, pull out a nail and either toss it over her shoulder or nail it in.
Judy, figuring this was worth looking into, asked, ‘Why are you throwing those nails away?’
Lynn explained, ‘When I pull a nail out of my pouch, about half of them have the head on the wrong end and I throw them away.’
Judy got completely upset and yelled, ‘You moron! Those nails aren’t defective! They’re for the other side of the house!’

“CASH FOR CLUNKERS” UPDATE–Question: Are motorcycles included in the federal government?s ?Cash for Clunkers? program?
Answer: Motorcycles were not included in the original clunker program, enacted by Congress as part of a Supplemental Appropriations bill in June. The program was slated to run through October 2009, however, due to its popularity, the appropriated funding has been exhausted.
Legislation to provide an additional $2 billion in funding is expected to be voted on and passed in the Senate today to keep the program going. However, the pending funding legislation makes no changes in the existing program and as such, motorcycles will still not be included. No amendments to the existing program were considered, as the addition of any amendments would make it impossible to pass before the upcoming month long recess.
The additional funding legislation will enable the program to continue into September. If there is consideration of a new program after that, MIC will work to get motorcycles included. There are two stand-alone clunker bills pending:
When the clunkers program was originally discussed, Congressional staff involved with the legislation told MIC staff that they would not consider motorcycles because they were having enough difficulty getting support for the car program. However, now that the car program has proven so popular, perhaps there will be a push for continuation. If so, it will provide an additional opportunity to advocate for motorcycle inclusion.
HARLEY-DAVIDSON EMBRACES TATTOOS–We’ve got to hand it to Harley-Davidson for continuing to come up with jazzy new styles that keep up with what’s going on in mainstream fashion circles. The new MotorClothes are inspired by tattoo art — and because they’re sexy, comfortable and cutting edge we think women riders will love them whether they ride a Harley-Davidson or not.
Launched in July, the all-new H-D Ink collection of Harley-Davidson MotorClothes sportswear celebrates this culture’s connection to the tattoo with original, wearable art and inked by masters from around the world.
H-D Ink debuts with premium tees, wovens, hoodies and technical clothing made from the finest fabrics and featuring original designs inspired by traditional and contemporary American Tattoo art. Twenty-three unique limited edition styles, including 14 men’s and nine women’s are available now with additional one-of-a-kind designs added in the future.

?Bash organisers challenge chief constable – show us yours and we?ll show you ours!?–After a hugely successful and safe Bulldog 23, the organisers and HAMC are angry and disappointed with comments by Warwickshire?s Chief Constable about the event. For the 23rd year in a row the show passed off without any serious incident – this was IN SPITE of the huge policing operation outside not BECAUSE of it as claimed by Mr Keith Bristow.
Once again the police have wasted a huge amount of taxpayers money on a totally unnecessary and unwanted operation which led to just eleven arrests.
The show has an excellent safety record ? one that?s been praised in the past by the police themselves. That record was built up over twenty years when the police presence outside the site was minimal, so it baffles us how Mr Bristow can now claim credit for this year?s safe and successful show.
The chief constable has challenged us to ?open our books? to show where the money goes?as he should know as a limited company we are required to file our records with the relevant agencies every year – this has been done and perhaps Warwickshire police should have checked them BEFORE making their wild and unfounded allegations about organised crime.
There?s also a clear case of double standards here – Mr Bristow is asking us to ?open our books? ? they?ve never been closed – but seems reluctant to tell Warwickshire taxpayers details of his own bonuses?and issue now taken up by the local MP.
We have already rejected the police claims about organised crime?they?ve been asked to come up with evidence at three licence hearings and have failed to do so. We are as disappointed as Mr Bristow that he had to deliver ?a policing operation on this scale?- it wasn?t needed or wanted by either showgoers or the local community which has always supported the ?Bash. As for ?fundraising for organised crime? the only fundraising is by the local Rotary Club and Help for Heroes – who this year raised ?10,072 on site..twice as much as last year..
The Hells Angels are not a ?designated organised crime group? in the UK as claimed by Mr Bristow and we will be seeking legal advice on this and the other unfounded allegations made recently by Warwickshire Police.
Our thanks got to all who came this year and to the people of Stratford for their continued support ?we look forward to Bulldog 24 .

PROJECT BIKE SMASHED BY MAN-VAN–Wanted to give you an update on my xs650 Junkyard build for “was” finished. Basically after all the hard work that Josh Mcbride, Robby Smith, Micheal Nantz, and Travis Sullivan put in to this little design of mine, it is once again dead.
Travis got the wiring straight with the help of G&L Choppers out in Colorado, and straighten out the carbs about 2 weeks ago. I took it out for a 3hr test ride, and it was nailin the pavement. Well, last week I parked it behind the family MAN VAN, and wham bam, I got a broken frame. Nice uh!
So, I will be stripping it back down, and sending out the frame to G&L Choppers to get it hardtailed. I believe the hardtail I had was crap anyway.
The saga continues and I am determined to make it roll…..
