NEW BUELL BLAST FOR 2010–THE BUELL BLAST WAS A CUTE LITTLE MOTORCYCLE.

It just never made much of a sportbike. But, as luck would have it, it makes a killer ottoman. Or end table. Or art piece. Through an innovative process known as crushing, we?ve turned a limited number of Blasts into colorful metal cubes, each numbered and signed by Erik Buell himself.

Hey, there?s no denying the Blast?s aforementioned cuteness. But there?s nothing cute about racing or riding a sportbike the way it was meant to be ridden.

BUELLBLS2

Smashed air-cooled, 4-stroke, single cylinder.

It was a very limited and exclusive production run. The entire inventory of crushed 2010 Blasts has already been spoken for, you could say we are SOLD OUT.–Eric

NEWS FROM BIKERNET METRIC–As I sit at my computer, I have no idea what to write about today. So, I do what any Google-nut would do, I Yahoo ?custom metric bikes?. And three listings down, I run into Scootworks.com. My Metric prayers have been answered. I quickly pick up the phone to find out the skinny.

Scootworks is a small company of 18 people, most of which are motorcycle enthusiasts. Some of them have been riding and building motorcycles/components for over 30 years, and have been developing and testing accessories for Scootworks since 1998. They are the engineers who designed and first started marketing Scootworks belt drive conversion kits for metric motorcycles through the internet.

They initially partnered with a local precision machine shop back in 1998 to produce the accessories for metric motorcycles. Since that time, they have grown steadily and built a CAD/CNC manufacturing facility complete with state-of-the-art automated CNC equipment (SMC – Scootworks Motor Company). They also own a manual machine shop (mill/lathe/presses/drill tables/glass bead/etc), a custom paint shop, a service department, custom bike fabrication, and more. Additionally, they have partnerships with a multitude of fiberglass shops, powder coaters, and chrome shops allowing them to utilize the best shops for the best in service and capabilities.

Since 1998, Scootworks have replaced thousands of belt drives, lowering kits, ergonomic brake pedals, custom wheel adapter kits, handlebar risers, saddlebag mounting systems, trunks, custom wheels, raked triple trees, footpegs, hand grips, motorcycle lifts, and many many other items in service all around the world. They are constantly developing new parts, testing and updating older designs, and pushing forward to improve the availability of unique accessories for metric motorcycles. Currently they manufacture over 700 items, assemblies, and sub-assemblies.

Bikernet Metric will be working with Scootworks in the months to come with tech features, custom builds, parts and more. Stay tuned. These are great folks with some great products and services and they are bikers through and through.

Two Dangerous Anti-Gun Bills Still Alive in Sacramento–Please Contact Your State Legislators Today! When the California Legislature returns from recess next week, it will consider two serious threats to our Second Amendment freedoms and they must be defeated at all costs.

Assembly Bill 962 is currently awaiting action in the Senate. Sponsored by Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), AB962 would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a ?handgun ammunition vendor? in the Department of Justice?s database. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require that purchasers submit to fingerprinting, which would be kept in dealers’ records and subject to inspection by the Department of Justice. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited.

Senate Bill 585 is awaiting consideration by the full Assembly. SB585, introduced by State Senator Mark Leno (D-3), would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition on the property or inside the buildings that comprise the Cow Palace. In short, SB585 is a stepping-stone to banning gun shows on all publicly-owned property in California.

It is imperative that you stand-up and respectfully make your voices heard loudly! Please contact your State Senator and respectfully urge them to oppose AB962. Also, please contact your Assemblymember and ask that they vote to defeat SB585. Contact information can be found here.

JENNIFER’S APPOINTMENT WITH BIKERNET MYSTIC–During a recent publicity outing, Jennifer sneaked off to visit a fortune teller of some local repute. In a dark and hazy room, peering into a crystal ball, the mystic delivered grave news.

“There’s no easy way to say this, so I’ll just be blunt: Prepare yourself to be a widow. Your husband will die a violent and horrible death this year.”

Visibly shaken, Jennifer stared at the woman’s lined face, then at the single flickering candle, then down at her hands. She took a few deep breaths to compose herself.

She simply had to know. She met the fortune teller’s gaze, steadied her voice, and asked her question.

“Will I be acquitted?”

PPG-PAINTED CORVETTE WINS ?STREET MACHINE OF THE YEAR? AT GOODGUYS PPG NATIONALS–STRONGSVILLE, Ohio ? July 27, 2009 ? There are lots of cars on the street, but there?s only one ?Street Machine of the Year.? And in 2009, it?s a stunning, PPG-painted 1962 Corvette that wowed the crowd, got the unanimous approval of the judges and drove off with the coveted ?Street Machine of the Year? award at the 12th annual Goodguys PPG Nationals held recently in Columbus, OH.

While the car looks like a Corvette and would be easily identified as one, it retains very few original components and is nothing like anything that ever came off an assembly line. Known as ?C1RS,? the car is owned by Barry Blomquist of Onalaska, WI. It was designed by artist Eric Brockmeyer and built and painted by Phil and Jeremy Gerber and their team at The Roadster Shop in Mundelein, IL.

C1RS?s body modifications were created in aluminum and then executed in fiberglass. Brockmeyer came up with a paint scheme based on black to complement and accentuate the ?Vette?s low-slung, swooping profile. The Roadster Shop chose the PPG Deltron? brand product line to enhance the car?s appearance. The Deltron coatings used included DPS 3055 gray primer and DCC 9300 single-stage black along with other Deltron metal preps.

?We?re very happy with the results we got with the Deltron coatings,? said Phil Gerber, co-owner of The Roadster Shop. ?We?ve been spraying PPG products for years. A car like this, you don?t want to diminish it by using anything less than the best paint.?

?This is an absolutely fabulous car and the finish is incredible,? added Blomquist. ?It blends blacks and grays and silvers. These guys created a beautiful car and then made it more beautiful with that PPG finish. It?s fantastic.?

The car looks like a true street machine and performs like one, too. Goodguys street machine contestants must run at least three laps on the autocross course to prove their mettle. C1RS ran away from the other entrants ? 31 of them ? thanks to its road-hugging Roadster Shop chassis, Bowler T-56 transmission and monstrous 618-horsepower, LS7 Turnkey engine. Inside the car, Blomquist will enjoy Italian red leather seats with suede accents, a sculpted aluminum dash and a handcrafted center console.

C1RS took over nine months to complete. It is the street machine to beat for the coming year.

SAVE OUR PLANET RIDE IN YORK–MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN– The Save our Plant petition that thousands of people signed is now in the hands of Harley-Davidson management. After two days of riding motorcycles from York to Harley headquarters in Milwaukee Wisconsin, seven local people meet with the president of Harley’s motor company division where they delivered a strong message of community pride and support, on behalf of thousands in central Pennsylvania.

At the end of an 800 mile journey, motor company president Matt Levatich greeted each rider and thanked them for coming. Each in turn presented Levatich petitions containing five thousand signatures from people who want the York County plant to stay. Mark Gerrick told him, “We’re really proud of Harley, as far as York, Pennsylvania, the county, the state. Hopefully it can work out the breaks and keep you where you belong.” Levatich responded by saying, “We are all in it together. We’ve got to figure it out. It is significant but we are hard at work at it.”

Each one presented a portion of the two inch thick pile of papers filled with signatures. Brian VanScyoc of Lancaster County told the manager “Wee are all here to show our support and we want to keep Harley in York.” Levatich told the group he appreciated the effort. “Well I think this is great! The spirit of it is all with the right intent. I think it’s a reflection of not just our employees but the whole community out in York.”

The Laugerman family has owned the Harley dealership in York for decades. Dave and his wife Denise Laugerman brought their granddaughter along on the trip. He told Levatich keeping the Harley plant open in York County is important to his business and his entire family. “This is my granddaughter. I brought her along just to show that we want to pass it along to her, and that everything in York County stays viable.

Levatich says work is underway to determine if the changes can be made to both the physical structure of the York County facility and adjustments to the workforce to make it more efficient and more competitive. He says “You know obviously uncertainty is stressful for people. So we are going to be as open and honest and communicate as much as we can. We need to help everybody understand what’s going. But there’s a lot that needs to come together and it will come together over time, and we think by the end of the fourth quarter we should be in the position to make the call.”

So with the petition of community support delivered– the riders say its mission is accomplished. Gerrick says “I think it was a good meeting. He (Levatich) seemed to really take our advice to heart. Hopefully it will work out for the plant.” Dan Melhorn of York County agrees. “I’m hoping it will do some good. He sounded positive on some things and hopefully we can work it out with everything that needs to be done.” Dave Thoman who used to drive Harley trucks for nearly twenty years says the meeting went well. “I expected him to be very receptive and he was. It’s been a great ride!”

After meeting with the local riders Levatich said he appreciated the effort of the group traveling to Milwaukee from York. He also said he appreciated the support from the thousands in Pennsylvania who signed the petition or attended last weekend’s rally. He says he hopes the passion and energy can translate to creativity to find ways to keep the plant open. Levatich says he predicts an answer by the end of the year.

The designer has employed different parts of a Kawasaki 1000RX and a number of cars to accomplish the motorcycle sidecar, which took 10 years and nearly 15,000 Euros to combine biking and luxury car ride in a single vehicle.

RM ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL MILLION-DOLLAR CONSIGNMENTS FOR ITS MONTEREY SALE– RM Auctions consigns a rare 1955 Aston Martin DB3S, formerly part of the celebrated ‘Kangaroo Stable’, and one of two short chassis 1937 Talbot-Lago T150C SS Teardrop Roadsters and the ex-Louis Rosier race-winning Grand Prix Car, to its ‘Sports & Classics of Monterey’ event, August 13th – 15th in California.

BLENHEIM, Ontario (August 5, 2009) ? Preeminent international auction house, RM Auctions, is delighted to announce the consignment of a highly-desirable 1955 Aston Martin DB3S and a multiple-race winning 1937 Talbot-Lago T150C SS Teardrop Roadster to its Sports & Classics of Monterey auction event, August 13th to 15th in Monterey, California.

One of just 20 customer DB3Ss built and one of three examples ordered new by Australia?s celebrated ?Kangaroo Stable? racing team, the 1955 Aston Martin DB3S, chassis number DB3S/104, boasts an unbroken chain of ownership through to the present and an impressive racing history spanning from 1956 through to its last known event in 1997.

The 1937 Talbot-Lago T150C SS Teardrop Roadster, chassis number 90115, similarly boasts impeccable provenance and a commendable and unique competition record. Born as one of three Figoni & Falaschi Teardrop roadsters and one of just two short chassis examples, the car?s second owner, gentleman racer Louis Rosier, replaced the original coachwork with new Grand Prix coachwork that remains with the car today.

?The Aston Martin DB3S in particular is rarely available to the market and when it is, traditionally only changes hands privately ? so it is exceptional to find one with such important provenance to be offered for sale publicly. Its offering, as well as that of the Talbot-Lago, truly represents a once-in-a-lifetime ownership opportunity and we expect both cars will attract significant interest from discerning collectors from around the world,? he added.

Both cars are set to be major highlights of this year?s Monterey weekend, along with previously announced 1952 Jaguar C-Type, one of the first delivered to North America and driven by Phil Hill in the 1952 Sheldon Cup at Elkhart Lake to claim the C-Type?s first North American victory.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY STUDY LESSON NUMBER ONE–First Important Lesson – Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professorgave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one:

‘What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?’

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen thecleaning woman several times.. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50’s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last questionblank. Just before class ended, one student asked ifthe last question would count toward our quiz grade.

‘Absolutely,’ said the professor…. ‘In your careers you will meet many people. All are significant. Theydeserve your attention and care, even if all you dois smile and say ‘hello.’

I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned hername was Dorothy.
