a.) More motorcycle rider involvement and participation in the making and wearing of self certified helmets, leading to greater public awareness and exposure to our problem with improper law enforcement.
b.) Request ABATE of California and MMA sponsor a bill to raise the fines imposed by law on car drivers who injure motorcyclists in a collision by not following driving rules and violating the motorcyclist’s ‘right of way’.
1) Develop a program to stop tailgating, especially behind motorcycles.
2) Move forward to block motorcycle noise restrictions, in the interest of safety.
c.) More visibility in the public eye.

* We should participate in and publicize the ASAP Program.
* Get positive media attention whenever possible.
2) Awareness by riders
* Set up Rights info booth (ABATE or MMA) at Motorcycle Safety Training sites at scheduled class times. Use media (#3 below)

* MRO members participating in scheduled non-MRO events ride as a cohesive group, promoting the MRO & its benefits to MRO nonmembers.
* Have package available to members for more easily promoting the MRO.

3) Awareness by media of Motorcycle events and MRO activities
* Use internet media sites as they will allow.
* Use print motorcycle news/magazines as they will allow.

d.) Sponsor helmet law repeal legislation through ABATE and/or MMA and/or AMA.
e.) Develop better relationship between motorcycle related businesses and MROs.
f.) Improve communication contact quality and quantity from MROs to members,and non-members interested in motorcycle Rights.

PATRIOT GUARD HONORS FALLEN MARIETTA SOLDIER–As he surveyed nearly 200 flag-flying motorcycles approaching the church where former student Hayes Clayton Jr. was about to be eulogized, David Gilbreath couldn’t hold back the tears.
“That’s impressive, seeing all these folks coming out to honor Hayes,” said Gilbreath, who was a vice principal at Marietta High School when Clayton was a student. “He’d take this as a real honor.”
Army Capt. Hayes Clayton Jr., 29, died Christmas Day in an explosion in Balad, about 50 miles north of Baghdad, Iraq. As mourners walked toward the sanctuary at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marietta on Saturday, they were greeted by the Patriot Guard Riders, a national organization of motorcyclists – many veterans themselves – initially formed to shield grieving families from protesters who picket at military funerals and claim the deaths are God’s retribution for a country that tolerates homosexuality.
A small contingent of the protesters, from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., showed up Saturday – but at the wrong location. They had obtained a permit to demonstrate outside the church where the funeral originally was scheduled, about a mile up Whitlock Avenue, but the service was moved at the last minute to accommodate the overflow crowd.
“I guess they had bad intel,” said Marietta police Officer Casey Camp.Regardless, the protesters would have had a difficult time overwhelming the Patriot Guard Riders, whose red, white and blue mission has become more about comforting families than confronting pickets.
“This is patriotism in motion right here,” said Nick Petty, 68, of Fairburn. The retired Marine is a national officer with the Patriot Guard Riders.
“Capt. Clayton gave his life for our freedoms, and it’s our duty to honor that,” he said. “I look at this like it’s my job. This is what I do.”Petty said he has attended 59 funerals since joining the Guard last February.
“It tears me apart, every last one of them,” he said.Those who knew Clayton said they appreciated the respect paid by this group of strangers, who mostly rode Harleys.”It shows that he touched more people than just his friends and family,” said Andrew Jefferson, who was in the ROTC with Clayton at Fort Valley State University in Middle Georgia.
Some people turned out just to watch, having read about the Patriot Guard Riders.
“I could hear the rumble of the engines from my house,” said George Miller, who lives about a block away from the church on Marietta’s west side. “This is very inspirational, very fitting for someone who gave his life for their country.”Others showed up for their first mission on Saturday.”We’ve had people come up with flags to stand with us,” said rider Bill Gaskin, who coordinated the tribute. “There’s something about a bunch of grizzled old bikers in leather standing at attention, holding a flag to honor someone they didn’t know, that really gets to people.”

TWO NEW MOTORCYCLE LAWS IN FLORIDA– One requires motorcycles registered to those under 21 to display a special license plate. The other is to force all First Time Applicants for Motorcycle Endorsements to attend a Safety Course which they will have to pay for.
I am against both of these laws.
People are serving in the military and putting their life on the line for our rights but they cannot exercise their right to make decisions about their own safety while operating a vehicle. It also would not stop those under 21 from operating a motorcycle with out a helmet if the motorcycle is registered to some one else.
The Mandatory Rider Training Course has been lobbied into law by those looking to make money from it. The courses should be a matter of choice and made Free to Residents.
The State of Florida has been collecting $1.00 for every license issued since the separate license law was passed.
When Clark Maxwell submitted the bill to the Florida Legislature he included a section that the money could not be used for anything else.

Something that the riders of Florida should also be aware of is that should the Mandatory Rider Training Law be allowed to stay on the books the following will be Mandatory Re-Schooling for those already with Motorcycle endorsements. I am not talking about testing here but having to go back to school and pay. At this time there is no cap on what these schools, classes and courses charge so once it becomes Mandatory You Are At Their Mercy!

THREE BIKERS WERE OUT RIDING, COOTER, PETE AND K.C.–As they came to the intersection in town a car ran the stop sign and hits Cooter who is killed instantly.
As the ambulance takes the body away, Pete says, “Well, damn, someone should go and tell his wife.”
KC says, “OK, I’m pretty good at that sensitive stuff, I’ll do it.”
Two hours later, he comes back carrying a case of Budweiser.
Pete says, “Where did you get that beer, KC?”
“Cooter’s wife gave it to me,” KC replies.
“That’s unbelievable, you told the lady her husband was dead and she gave you beer?”
Well, not exactly”, KC says. “When she answered the door, I said to her, You must be Cooter’s widow’.”
She said, “You must be mistaken, I’m not a widow.”…. then I said “I’ll bet you a case of Budweiser you are.”

I know I had more to report, but it slipped through my brain cells and escaped out the back through the shop.
