HOT DAYTONA REPORT THURSDAY NEWS FOR MARCH 10TH

Hey,

Life is nuts as you’ll see in the news today. Last night a buddy in Australia sent me a link to an investment Web effort effort called Crisis and Opportunity. This guy talks very professionally about crazy investment opportunities and it goes on and on. How much time does this bastard think we have to listen to his unending pitch. It reminded me of Scientology. One web site selling subscriptions for $999.00, fortunately Stansberry was $49. You’ll get rich if you don’t die trying to listen to his pitch: https://www.angelnexus.com

I’m in a daze, thumbing through e-mails in the middle of the night. I couldn’t sleep. This news will blow your mind with reports on Daytona, Global Warming, and New Motorcycles. Even Daytona History is covered. —Enjoy

DAYTONA BIKE WEEK HISTORY– Bikers and bike fans gathered at the World’s Most Famous Beach as early as 1903 for beach speed trials, but it wasn’t until 30 years later that Daytona Beach’s bike racing tradition, and Bike Week, gained traction.

The Daytona 200 took place on January 24, 1937. Bill France was one of the race’s founders. The race ran 3.2 miles, including parts on the beach and A1A connected by banked sand turns. There were 86 starters and about 15,000 fans watching as Ed “Iron Man” Kretz won on an Indian motorcycle, with an average speed of 73.34 mph.

For nearly a decade the event grew until it was halted by WWII, when most factories were retooled for national defense.

Read the whole historic rundown in Bandit’s Cantina with some terrific historic shots from the Bob T. Collection.

THE DEALER ECONOMIC REPORT– The 21 dealers discussed are Aprilia, Arctic Cat, BMW, BRP, Ducati, Genuine Scooters, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Hyosung, John Deere, Kawasaki, KTM. KYMCO, Moto Guzzi, Piaggio, Polaris, Schwinn, Suzuki, Triumph, Vespa, and Yamaha. These 21 OEMs operated 9,129 dealership stores (rooftops) in 2006, 9,008 in 2007, 8,987 in 2008, 8,508 in 2009 and 8,233 in 2010. The total number of dealership facilities in this group declined by 3.3 percent from 2009 to 2010 and 8.6 percent between 2006 and 2010.

While the total number of these dealerships declined by 775 over the last five years, the total number of franchises dropped by only 652, indicating that OEMs often simply shifted their franchise to an existing dealer when one of their dealers went out of business. It’s also notable that of the dealers representing these 21 OEMs, the number of 21 OEM franchises per store increased only modestly, from 1.65 to 1.75 from 2006 to 2010.

On the other hand, for these same dealers, their total franchises per store (including all OEMs, not just the 21 above) increased from 1.90 to 2.24, indicating that dealers have been progressively taking on more non-mainstream OEMs.

Total Franchises Increases. It’s interesting to note, however, that the total number of franchises for all OEMs Musick tracks increased from 20,599 (55 OEMs) in 2006, 27,320 (100 OEMs) in 2009, to 34,809 last year (121 OEMs), a gain of 7,489, or 27 percent, in 2010.

Perhaps the most interesting trend that Musick identified was the growth in the number of retail outlets for UTVs. Last year, Case-International Harvester, New Holland, and Husqvarna Group among others began offering UTVs through their dealerships. This is significant due to the large number of retail outlets represented by each of these OEMs (note that not all Husqvarna Group dealers sell UTVs although any of their nearly 3,000 retailers can order UTV product).

More than 75 percent of the 21,219 rooftops followed by Musick carried UTVs last year, by far the largest product category in the powersports industry. By comparison, only 36 percent carried motorcycles, 50 percent carried ATVs, and 38 percent offered scooters. A mere 10 percent handled PWC and only about 7 percent carried snowmobiles.

THIS JUST IN, THE SMOKE OUT LONG ROAD SCHEDULE FOR 2011–The Long Road
New Orleans, LA to Rockingham, NC
June 19 to June 23, 2011.

The Gypsies have a word, “Lungo Drom,” which translates into English as the “Long Road.” The Long Road being a synonym for life. To me, the name is a perfect fit with our crazy sub-culture of all things HORSE. The Long Road is not a gut-check-cross-country race like the Stampede, it is a connection with friends and a chance to have fun on some cool bikes. The Long Road is NOT a group ride but a gypsy ride; meaning you can ride with a couple of friends, as a group, by yourself, you can leave anytime, like at 5 am (without me) or leave at 10 am. The route is actually a collection of places we stop for the day. The chopper faithful that complete the Long Road for the first time are presented with the coveted, serial-numbered, solid silver medallion.

This year the 1,000 + mile ride will take the party through parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. The average day will be about 250 miles with wildly interesting activities along the way.
Sunday, June 19 – Meet in New Orleans, LA and sign in Sunday night. We will meet in the Voodoo Room at the House of Blues in in the French Quarter at 8pm. This gives y’all Saturday and Sunday to get to the start point.

We have two recommended hotels. To make a reservation at a hotel on this list tell the hotel representative that you are requesting a room in The Long Road block of rooms, first thing.

Bienville House, phone # (800) 535-7836 or (504) 529-2345
320 Decatur St., New Orleans, LA 70130
Rates are $ 99 to $129 depending on the type of room.
Bike parking cost $10 per day.

Daphine Orleans, phone # (800) 521-7111 or (504) 586-1800
415 Rue Dauphine, New Orleans, LA 70112
Bike parking cost $14 per day.

Monday, June 20 – We ride 250 miles to Henderson Beach State Park (Florida State Campground) on the emerald green ocean. The recommended route (but you can do what you want on any bike you want) takes you on Route 90 along the Gulf with spectacular views of the ocean. Some of us are stopping in Louisiana for a swamp tour through the bayou and we are taking the Mobile Bay Ferry to Dauphin Island. The plan is to have a small fire on the beach with some Jimmy Buffet type jams.

If you want to camp it will be $15 for the night. Do not call the park for a camping reservation. We have already reserved and paid for camping spots and we will settle up at the campsite.

Henderson Beach State Park
17000 Emerald Coast Parkway
Destin, Florida 32541

Wednesday, June 22 – Ride 215 miles to Columbia, SC to stay at the Sequicentenial State Park. We rented the entire campground, every space, so they have been able to allow us to have music and outdoor movies on a big inflatable screen. We will show Smoke Out and Long Road footage as well as “The Masters of Menace.” Nicky Boots might do the cooking but don’t let that scare you off. I hear he is an underground master chef.

Thursday, June 23 – Some riders will choose to ride up to Rockingham (150 miles) and settle in for the Smoke Out. My guess is that this will include all of the staff (because there are things that need we need to do). However, the riders that can afford to arrive on Friday will ride 115 miles to Charleston, SC; which is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the US. So many great places to enjoy a Guinness, watch the Atlantic Ocean and check out cool unique shops. The ride from Charleston, SC to Rockingham, NC is 190 miles to Rockingham.

Details on registration, cost, recommended hotels, and all will be on the website at www.SmokeOutRally.com

Enjoy the wild ride. Thanks.

THE NEW BUYER PHENOMENON FROM UNCLE MONKEY–Scott bought a new bike. We’ve pushed several tables together for supper and the news spreads like wild fire. What did he buy? Where did he buy it? How much? The table was a buzz with excitement as we talked about the lucky new owner and his new ride. Buying a motorcycle is a communal experience. We were all excited for Scott. We talked about when we bought a brand new bike, when we owned a Heritage, and the regrets we had when we sold it.

Most importantly we talked about the good times yet to come; the miles Scott will put on in the summers to come. Unlike other demographics, there was no jealousy, no ill will towards the new owner. There was no “Jones” to keep up with. We were as keyed up as the new owner. Brand new or just new to us we were genuinely pleased. We wanted to know what Scott planned with his new purchase, what accessories added, what junk stripped away.

We listened about the service level from the selling dealership and the service he didn’t receive from our most local dealer. I always try to encourage riders to buy local, however that isn’t always the best case. In the end Scott traveled several hours and saved several thousands for the same bike. Not all dealers are the same. Some shops will give you the shirt off of their back to make sure you are happy and a repeat customer. Others it is the price on the tag and a few hidden dollars and surcharges for the “extras” and destination fees not listed on the tag and they’ll get to you as soon as they’re done watering their crops on FarmVille.

The good dealers, the busy dealers, get it while the others bitch and complain about lagging sales, refuse to perform warranty work, and gouge us with high prices for sundries. They are content to sell one bike to a customer. They don’t understand the only thing we like more than talking about our bike is talking about someone else’s bike. We are privy to every detail of the negotiations. A great experience at a dealership not only means a repeat customer, but more customers chasing the wind to their door.

So as you mull over that decision on a new bike remember we are all there with you.

ROYAL ENFIELD REPORT, NEW Models–Bullet 500
This new bike is an updated version of the original Bullet as sold in a 350cc form in India. This basic bike has been built for over 55 years but was never sold in the export markets. We refer to it internally as the “Bullet Black” or B5. It is built on the original Bullet frame and has the same new Fuel Injected UCE engine and disk brake that the rest of the bikes have. It also sports an old style metal badge on the tank and the original 19 inch wheels. It is only available in Black.

This bike has a very aggressive introductory MSRP of $5495 (California model may be slightly higher). They will be available in March in limited numbers so you should order now. It represents the best value in the motorcycle market today.

These bikes will sell very well at this price so don’t wait to order in hopes that we will have extras. The factory is now 9 months behind in production and our production slots are limited. What we don’t order we won’t get.

Classic Chrome
This new bike is stunning. It was named one of the top ten bikes at the NY show by Popular Mechanics magazine.

We actually were awarded two top bikes out of the ten. It is built on a C5 platform and features chrome tank, fenders and the oval cover that looks like and air box. It has a brown solo seat (with an accessory matching pillion seat) and has a beautiful red stripe with pin striping down the middle. It is very reminiscent of the Interceptor. Judging from the reception in NY it will be a good seller. It will not be available until April at the earliest. Because of the beautiful handmade chrome tank it is a very difficult bike to build and will also only be available in limited quantities as a special order type bike.

We will be offering each dealer an allocation of these bikes so if you have an interest I would call your dealer now so they can get one for you.

2011 Price Increases and Current 2010 model deals

2010 is still the current model year. The 2011 bikes will have a price increase between $100-$200. There are only very small changes to the 2011 bikes so this is a great time to buy. Until the END OF MARCH we are also offering $150 in free accessories to all purchasers of a 2009-2010 model at particiapting dealers.

New CEO, New Factory, and New Bikes
A new CEO was named and he started this past January. His name is Dr. Venki Padmanabhan (commonly known as “Venki”). is name is mane HHe is an American citizen of Indian descent. This is a first. He spent many years with GM, Chrysler and Mercedes. (Read more about him in our recent press release). He has been running the plant operations for the past two years and really “gets it”. He is a pleasure to work with (as was the past CEO, who is now working on worldwide branding of all of the products that RE’s parent company makes). He has a very good understanding of our market and our needs.

As you know, Royal Enfield Motors of India has become very successful. Because of overwhelming worldwide demand they are 9 months behind in production. In spite of several expansions at the current factory they still cannot make enough bikes.

In 2010 we made 52,250 bikes which I am told is slightly more than Triumph. For 2011 they are hoping to make 70,000 units a very ambitious target. Because of the success and profitability, our new CEO Dr. Padmanabhan announced at the NY show that we are building a brand new factory to meet our future needs. The new factory will allow us to increase production to levels that will meet the strong demand world wide.

DAYTONA REPORT, Ormond offers options for families, ‘old school’ bikers– ORMOND BEACH — Packs of people look down from the wooden walkway about 15 feet in the air — drinks in hand — to monitor the chrome and leather action of motorcycles rolling toward the Iron Horse Memorial Bridge they’re standing on.

The ponytailed guy on a gray trike leads the line under the bridge for a moment as bikers pass a free beer coozie table next to a tent with Christian books. They all head toward any space big enough in the sand pit of motorcycles that’s as much a center of attention as it is a parking lot.

Sunday, day three of Bike Week, which runs through March 13, was in full gear at the Iron Horse Saloon, a prime and rougher hangout for thousands of bikers on the U.S. 1 tour of outdoor hot spots. Thousands more hit Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona, just a few miles north of the saloon for a more commercialized theme of motorcycle products and services, and live music and Budweiser Clydesdales.

The smell of exhaust from idling bikes fills the lungs on the way in, while plumes from a barbecue smoker smother crowds on the other side of the Iron Horse. This is where the roots of Bike Week are for Kathi and Keith Keeton, newlyweds from Orlando who are flipping through tattoo artist portfolios at Willie’s Tropical Tattoo booth.

No one’s in the hot seat yet, though there’s a big window into the tiny studio just large enough for an artist and client to sit for a few hours of ink action.

Kathi, known as “Kitty Kat,” stands at the counter consulting on her second tattoo. She’s thinking about a cat skull for her right arm that will line up just right to meet her husband’s bulldog tattoo on his left arm.

“I want to match him,” she said, pushing her arm up against his, which is nearly twice as big and tan.

Friends “Lizard” and “Ghost” gave her the thumbs up, she said, though the pigtailed blonde with the tight black cat shirt will ride her Harley back on Thursday to seal the deal.

Keith, or “Big Dawg,” a burly 6-foot kind of a man with a salt-and-pepper goatee, said Iron Horse is the “old school” side of Bike Week, where you won’t see newbies.

“It gives you the true biker feeling,” he said as a woman with deep red hair walked past, her head rocking out to the music on her way toward the Wall of Death stunt show.

Leather vests and men’s facial hair rule here. Women with skull jewelry, corsets, midriff shirts, tight and bedazzled tops also are on hand.

On Sunday afternoon, there was even a tiny infant swaddled in the arms of a grandmother as she made her way past the tattoo shop. The young mother pushed the stroller just behind.

The Keetons still go to places like Destination Daytona every Bike Week, though they said “it’s not a priority.”

“Destination Daytona is awesome but it’s very sterile. Daytona Disney is what we call it,” Keith said. “You drink here, people watch and you always run across friends.”

“It’s more commercialized over here, a more calmer crowd,” he said, compared to what he expects at the Iron Horse Saloon.

But he’ll “have to do both sides,” Bennett said, to get the full Bike Week experience.

ZERO MOTORCYCLES FOUNDER LEAVES COMPANY TO ENTER THE SIKORSKY COMPETITION–SANTA CRUZ, Calif., (March 8, 2011) – Zero Motorcycles, the global leader in the electric motorcycle industry today announced that its founder, Neal Saiki, is leaving his daily operational responsibilities for the company and re-entering the Igor I. Sikorski Human Powered Helicopter Competition, which Neal first pursued at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo as an aeronautical engineering student in 1989. Neal and his wife, Lisa, founded Zero Motorcycles Inc. (then called Electricross) in their garage in Scotts Valley, Calif., in January of 2006. Now, five years later, the company has built a strong management team, an employee base of over 60 people and has just announced the industry’s broadest line of electric motorcycles for 2011.

“Neal had the vision, the talent and the courage to launch an electric motorcycle company before there really was an electric motorcycle industry, or even a market. His vision and hard work have helped make Zero the industry leader,” stated long-time Zero Motorcycles Board Member, Aflalo Guimarães, Managing Director of The Invus Group, Zero’s largest investor. “We are grateful to Neal and will continue to rely on his vision and counsel.” Zero Motorcycles is also a corporate sponsor of Neal’s entry into the competition.

Zero Motorcycles has added several industry veterans to its management team over the past year and is well positioned to execute the vision with which Neal launched the company. “Founding Zero was exciting, fun and a lot of hard work. At this point, I think it is well established. I’m extremely proud of the team we’ve assembled to carry Zero into the future. I can now move on to pursuing the dream of building a human powered flying machine,” stated Neal.

BIKERNET ELEMENTARY-SCHOOL CAMPUS REPORT–  A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children as they drew. She would occasionally walk around to see each child’s artwork. As she came around to one little girl, who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.

The little girl replied, “I’m drawing God.”

The teacher paused and said, “But no one knows what God looks like.”

Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, “They will in a minute.”

EPA GLOBAL WARMING NEWS– Okay, here’s the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet – all of you.

Of course you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress – it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow, and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans, and all animal life.

I know, it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of: driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid’s “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cents light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs…well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in just four days – yes – FOUR DAYS ONLY by that volcano in Iceland, has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud any one time – EVERY DAY.

I don’t really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in its entire YEARS on earth. Yes folks, Mt Pinatubo was active for over one year – think about it.

Of course I shouldn’t spoil this touchy-feely tree-hugging moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keep happening, despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.

Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you on the basis of the bogus “human-caused” climate change scenario.

Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention “Global Warming” any more, but just “Climate Change” – you know why? It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past century and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.

And just keep in mind that you might yet have an Emissions Trading Scheme – that whopping new tax – imposed on you, that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer. It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.

But hey, relax, give the world a hug and have a nice day!

PS: I wonder if Iceland is buying carbon offsets?

MONGOLS VISIT AUSTRALIA–The Mongol Brotherhood has descended on Australia’s New South Wales central coast but the notorious US outlaw motorcycle club has no plans to ”step on anyone’s toes” by expanding to Sydney, its national president says.

The club’s Australian president, Peter ”Chop” Emerton, told media the idea that the club was establishing a Sydney chapter was ”complete and total bullshit” which police had promoted to destabilise relations with other clubs.

Officers from Strikeforce Raptor and the tactical response group had raided his property recently and ”found nothing because there was nothing to find”, Mr Emerton said.

‘We are not trying to establish drug turf or to seek conflict with other clubs,” he said. ”That’s not what our club is about.”

Mr Emerton said the Mongols had kept their central coast presence secret for about two years until posting photographs of members on Facebook last year. The club now numbered more than two dozen, contrary to reports of only six members, he said.

”But we are very happy to remain on the central coast. We have deliberately stayed out of Sydney. We don’t need to step on anyone’s toes unless someone steps on ours first.”

Biker insiders are concerned that if the Mongols came to Sydney it could spark deadly tension. Police fear the recent defection of more than 50 Bandidos to the Hells Angels, has created the potential for violence between the clubs.

”The Mongols should know that going to Sydney would be a suicidal move,” one insider said. ”There’s too much tension between existing clubs. There’s just no room for another club, especially one that has history with other major clubs in the US.”

BIKERNET NRA GUN NUT REPORT–The U.S. Senate may soon begin confirmation hearings on one of the most dangerous political appointees of Barack Obama’s presidency — and NRA-ILA needs YOUR HELP to defeat this nomination!

President Obama has tapped Andrew Traver, a committed ringleader in the gun-ban movement, to head up the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE). Now, the U.S. Senate must decide whether to allow Traver to take over this crucial government post.

As a committed Second Amendment freedom fighter, you’re well aware that this agency has an enormous and direct impact on you and other gun owners nationwide. And if Andrew Traver is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, it will turn back the clock all the way to the Clinton days when the full force of BATFE’s enormous powers were leveled against gun stores and gun owners on an almost daily basis.

That’s why I’m asking you to visit www.StopTraver.org today.

Through this special website, you can send messages directly to your U.S. Senators and make your voice heard BEFORE the Senate considers this disastrous nomination. This website also includes an important “Stop Traver” Fact Sheet with critical information you need to know about Andrew Traver.

Please understand, Traver is not just another run-of-the-mill anti-gun elitist, but a dedicated gun-ban zealot with the deepest possible ties to the national “gun control” movement.

And now, President Barack Obama wants to put him in charge of BATFE where he can inflict almost unlimited and permanent damage to our rights.

Please, visit www.StopTraver.org today and help us win this crucial battle — for yourself and for every American who cherishes our constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Thanks in advance for your courageous help!

Sincerely,

Chris W. Cox
Executive Director
NRA Institute for Legislative Action

P.S. Anti-gun ringleaders across the country are doing everything in their power to make sure that Andrew Traver is confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the next Director of BATFE. You need to make your voice heard! Please, click here to visit www.StopTraver.org and help defeat this disastrous Obama nomination today!

BIKERNET MINNEAPOLIS NEWS BUREAU REPORT–Two boys are playing hockey on a pond in a Minneapolis park when one of the boys is suddenly attacked by a crazed Rottweiler.
Thinking quickly, the other boy takes his hockey stick, shoves it under the dog’s collar, twists it and breaks the dog’s neck, saving his friend.
A reporter is standing by, sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy.
“Young Twins Fan Saves Friend from Vicious Animal” he starts writing in his notebook.
“But I’m not a Twins Fan”, the little boy replies. “Sorry but since we’re in Minneapolis , I just assumed you were”, says the reporter and starts writing again.
“Vikings Fan Rescues Friend from Horrific Attack,” he writes in his notebook. “But I’m not a Vikings Fan either,” the little boy replies.”Sorry but since we’re in Minneapolis , ‘ I just assumed you were,” says the reporter and starts writing again.
“Gophers Fan Rescues Friend from Horrific Attack,” he writes in his notebook. “I’m not a Gophers Fan either,” says the boy.
“Oh… I assumed everyone in Minneapolis was either for the Twins, Vikings or Gophers. What team do you root for?” the reporter asked. “I’m a Packers fan,” the boy replies.
The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes…

BIKERNET INSURANCE GROUP ECONOMIC STUDY FORUM–Economy is hinting at recovery. Yes? No?
Let’s look at the facts that matter folks. Depending on how you count, there have been seven straight quarters of growth in the national gross domestic product (GDP), following this nasty recession. This growth, albeit anemic, has been led by manufacturing and the service sector. This would appear to indicate that people are beginning to spend. But, don’t get to excited yet. The housing market still sucks and unemployment remains way to damn high. If feedback from our customer base is any indication, consumers are still wary but appear to be regaining some confidence. This is looking good for a recovery.

Any upside to this “down-like” economy?
Let’s look at some hopeful signs.

1. We are wising up, determined to cut back and focus on only key financial transactions.
We’ve all had to make the tough choices necessary to get back on a positive financial track. Scaling back is in. Join the smart crowd now and rid yourself of all the little costs here, and other costs there. Evaluate everything and determine whether or not you need any of your “stuff”. What can you live without?

2. We are turning to the life we were destined to “afford”.
Forget the life of luxury. That’s passe folks. Get real! Give up the “appearances” or even the “conveniences”. Start dealing in a cash-only mentality. Use credit cards only to accumulate points for free stuff. Never go over your monthly budget on your credit cards. Pay them off monthly. You should have no more than two credit cards. One for regular use and one as a back-up. Cut up all other cards to free yourself of purchasing temptations.

3.. We are getting rid of debt . . . once and for all.
Rule here is actually quite simple. STOP SPENDING. Begin to pay down debt one dollar at a time and you’ll be amazed how quickly your debt load decreases if you actually stop spending on crap. Remember, this is a time of food, shelter, transportation (motorcycles) and water (JD for some of us).

4. We are beginning to aim higher again. For example, set yourself a goal of “Total Financial Security” in the next 10 years.
Now that you feel motivated to get your financial house in order, look for ways to not only trim your spending but for ways to start investing in your future retirement. Start simple with a “savings account”. Place 5% of your take home pay in this account every paycheck. Then, as you get back to some level of financial prosperity, increase your savings to 10% and more if you can afford it. What ever you do, don’t spend all your money all the time.

Aim High, Don’t Mortgage Your Future. Start saving now.
We’ll do our part to help you save money. Take those insurance savings we get ya and put them in your savings account. You’ll be glad you did.

BIKERNET ANTIQUE DISCOVERY OF THE WEEK–  1953 Indian Chief with Factory Sidecar– It’s a 1953 Chief that has a 5 digit serial# match with the foot board (frame) number and it is 100 percent correct down to the last nut and bolt.

I have shown and judged Indians all over the country and this is the best example I have seen. The only thing I found that I don’t like is an ugly weld on the rear sidekick frame that is easy enough to correct. You know how fussy I am and I would not have have sent you a Chief unless it were special. I am asking $45K and I’m sure it should make that. It runs and ride perfectly and it won best of show at Indian day in Springfield. It was part of Allen Smith’s collection for a few years, and I took it in trade on my Pierce Arrow Four.

— Don

Side-valve
Displacement 1300 cc
Horsepower 40 BHP
62″ wheelbase
Weight 560 pounds
Top speed less sidecar 95 MPH

This example benefited from an extensive, thorough accurate restoration down to the last detail. This was a complete original real bike and the restoration utilized either original parts or new old stock throughout. All of the small details are correct: the Linkert carburetor body are painted black, the generator belt cover is black, the fork legs are painted not polished, the gas caps are painted instead of chromed, the paint is the correct Indian red, the correct speedo and gauges.

The bike has won numerous Best of Shows, including Indian Days at Springfield and has been part of a major Midwest collection for the past 3 years. It has been stored in a climate- controlled facility.

Everything works down to the horn and it is in running, riding condition. Doubtful that you will find a better detailed example of a side hack rig anywhere.

Yep, it’s for sale: 626 840-3326

INTERESTING TIMES–I just received word from Motorbooks. They want more words for the Terry book, so I’m scrambling into the hills to write three more chapters at Bob Bitchin’s cabin by the lake. Ya see, it’s his Birthday today. Mine is next week, and I believe Debi Black, from Bartels’ H-D is celebrating hers this week. And Joe Teresi, the Boss of Paisano Publications is facing another one.

Darwin Holmstrom, the Motorbooks editor, wants to wrap it up by the 18th. That means I’ll scour his edits right through my BD to the end. But then we have a Rivera clutch tech to post, if I can find Ben Kudon. I also need to wrap up the Harmon bike feature from Denco Cycle.

We are working on the next Mudflap Girl bike build feature as Spitfire wraps up the frames, now in two configurations. More features are coming, and some damn exciting material. Hang on.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
