NEW TREES FOR THE NARROW MINDED–Custom Cycle Engineering has developed a new series of aluminum triple trees for the Narrow Minded. These are Randy Smith designed trees with the Old Narrow Glide width (6 5/8” centerline). They are furnished with an internal fork stop system that will fit any type of stock or custom frame.
The fork tube sizes that are available are 35mm, 39mm and 41mm. The top and bottom plates are a pinch bolt style and include a set of flushed out fork tube top nuts to accommodate the pinch bolt top plate.
An interesting option to these trees is the Old Style Hydra Glide Steering Damper that can be purchased on request. This offers a simple way to manually dial in more dampening on the front fork when needed.

ULTIMATE BUILDERS SHOW IN CHARLOTTE AWARD WINNERS–The surprise of the Charlotte, NC show is the diversity of the men and machines that attended the last event of the series before the US Nationals in Daytona, FL at Bikeweek. In each of the four classes we had outstanding bikes competing for the top award and cash prizes.
North Carolina has world-class builders. They may not be household names but they are masters of metal. They also have events for the discriminating biker. Edge, from the Smoke Out fame, was on-hand pumping up his event, working the crowd and looking for biker chicks to attend. I can tell you, he looked long and hard for the chicks.

SPEAKING OF AUSTRALIA–Club boss ‘not of good character.’
A motorcycle club leader convicted of murder cannot be considered a person of good character because of his role as head of a club, a judge has been told.
Comanchero national president Mahmoud “Mick” Hawi, 31, was convicted of the murder of Anthony Zervas, the brother of Hells Angel member Peter Zervas.
Mr Zervas, 29, was bludgeoned with a bollard and stabbed during a brawl at Sydney Airport on March 22, 2009.
During sentencing submissions at the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, crown prosecutor Natalie Adams said Hawi had a number of convictions as a juvenile before becoming Comanchero national president at the age of 22.
Ms Adams said Hawi headed a group that “did not comply with mainstream society”.
“(That) precludes a finding of good character,” she told the court.
Ms Adams also highlighted the fact that the bashing of Mr Zervas had occurred in a very public setting.
“In broad daylight… and in front of a large number of people including children and the elderly,” Ms Adams said.
Hawi was the only person to be found guilty of murder over the airport brawl, while another club member is to be sentenced for manslaughter in March.
Eight other Comancheros and two Hells Angels members have already been sentenced for their roles.
Justice Robert Allan Hulme will sentence Hawi on April 10.

The car is in remarkable original condition, and is being brought back to life in its “barn-find” condition by museum curator Dale Walksler and good friend Eugene Smyers.

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION– I have some good news to report, our financial health for January 2012 was better than that of January 2011, due in large part to an increase in membership, both new and renewals. Your help in informing your members about the importance of becoming and remaining members of the MRF is showing dividends. Keep up the good work.
Our thanks also go out to ABATE of Arizona and ABATE of Northern Idaho for their extra donations to help plug our projected budget deficit for 2012. This does not mean that our financial problems are in the past, just that together, we are making progress.
In an effort to help grow our membership and reach out to a new audience the MRF has created a new committee, the Industry Council Committee, whose main objective will be to find ways to engage the Motorcycle Aftermarket Industry and grow their support and involvement in protecting the rights and the lifestyle of street motorcyclists. Committee members are, Dave Dwyer, Chair, Kirk Willard, John Pierce, Jeff Hennie and Keith Ball. The BOD of the MRF has voted to approve a new category of membership, the Industry Council Member and has approved the following Mission Statement;

We endeavor to create an ongoing forum for communication between the motorcycle industry and the motorcyclist rights community in order to promote relevant legislative activity as widely and as inclusively as possible, as well as develop a joint legislative platform from which to work.
Through purposeful action we desire to protect and enhance the capacity of motorcycling by creating a direct connection between the motorcycle industry and the rights community and encourage active involvement from the business side. UNCLE MONKEY DISCUSSES THE BUSINESS CODE OF THE WEST–Starting a company is a lot of hard work. If it wasn’t we would all own the number one motorcycle website, we would all be Arlen Ness, we would all be Rockefellers.
Business hinges on many things and succeeds or fails on currents and trends. Some companies fail because of improper planning, going in blind with the assumption that they would be the exception. They rarely are. Some times companies don’t fail because of the owners. Hard work and dedication can only carry you so far when markets turn and economies collapse.
In my own company I’ve seen suppliers sell me out for a quick buck, licensing agreements disappear into thin air, and suppliers go from being the largest in the world to fighting in bankruptcy court just to keep the rights to their name. They are the luckier ones. Some established companies have simply closed their doors.
Many people are put off by the fact that Kevin and Mona Alsop have moved to Ragehard Choppers. Others question that Erik Buell is building bikes under EBR. While I don’t know the detailed ins and outs of Big Bear Choppers or Buell, I do know the companies didn’t close because of lack of hard work by these people. I’m not trying to downplay the situation.
People did lose lots of money; there are people who bought bikes in good fate expecting the company to be around for years to come. That didn’t happen. No business owner likes to see that happen. Most do what they can to right the situation. It is not always perfect and not always satisfactory but people can only do what they can.
So, while you may have lost $20-30,000 they have lost hundreds of thousands, lost their sense of pride, lost their company. All they can do is what you can do, and that is pick themselves up, brush themselves off and continue on. Should we continue to support them? We don’t seem to have a problem re-electing our politicians.

INDY SHOW REPORTING PROBLEMS– Dealer News claims record attendance and North Korea wants to hire them for tourism PR.
Whoever this guy is “Mr. Danny Phillips” at Advanstar he couldn’t have been with the company more than a year or two. This is the type of comment I expect from the Agricultural minister of North Korean not an “Executive Vice President” at a US Trade Show company.
“Nearly every segment showed attendance growth across the board at Dealer Expo and the American V-Twin Dealer Show this year,” said Advanstar executive vice president Danny Phillips. “Mass merchandisers, franchised dealers and online retailers were all up more than 5 percent, with specialty service retailers up 166 percent and outdoor retailers up more than 500 percent.
“Our exhibitors were the real winners – a large number of them reported increased onsite orders this year as they took advantage of the expanded range of high-spending buyers we delivered at the show,” Phillips said.
Seriously? Did they attend the same Powersports show I’ve been attending the last 11 years. I understand PR, but this is the same thing I see over and over again as the US publications are not publishing any investigative reporting whatsoever, no in depth analysis of what’s really happened, and worse a complete corporate machine intent on milking dealers and exhibitors alike.
HERE! HERE! TO THE MINISTRY OF TRUTH We now live in Orwellian times. I guess if you control what the dealers read you control what they believe right?
FACT: Show was smaller than any other show in the last 10 years. Attendance was down, sales were down, and the biggest exhibitors were there for free.
“The growth in attendees was greatest from franchised dealerships, specialty retailers, online retailers and big box stores, including Costco and Amazon.com,” said Heather Erickson, marketing director at Advanstar.
Mrs. Heather Erickson sounds just as ignorant as Mr. Phillips. Let’s be honest Costco and Amazon.com have led to the destruction of the US powersports mom and pop shops. The NDA auction is actually a terrible thing because instead of buying, you watch dealers make money off the failed dealers in other states.
This show has flaws that need to be fixed or the industry needs a new show. The last thing we need is more lies from Advanstar.

Imagine hearing that and then realizing that your best treatment facility is hours from your home.” OK Kids Korral will help alleviate some of the financial, physical and emotion toll put on families as they travel to and from treatment.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for later this spring and will take about 15 to 18 months to construct. The Korral home will feature 12 overnight suites and 4 daytime suites as well as an indoor playroom, theatre, community dining room, 4 neutropenic suites and many more amenities designed to create a relaxing haven for children and their families. The Korral will allow families and their children to focus on the most
important thing – getting well.
The Toby Keith Foundation is currently working on their biggest fundraiser, The Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic. At that event last year, Toby Keith received his a one-of-a-kind motorcycle, built by Dar & his team, to help in their fundraising efforts. Since then, the bike took 6th place in the World Championships of Custom Bike Building
in its class and is on display at OKC Thunder Cycles. “With Thunder Run approaching, we think we’ve found the perfect opportunity for the bike,”

SIN WU IN THE BIKERNET KITCHEN–She was standing in the kitchen, preparing our usual soft-boiled eggs and toast for breakfast, wearing only The ‘T’ shirt that she normally slept in.
As I walked in, almost awake, she turned to me and said softly, “You’ve got to make love to me this very moment!”
My eyes lit up and I thought, “I am either still dreaming or this is going to be my lucky day!” Not wanting to lose the moment, I embraced her and then Gave it my all; right there on the kitchen table.
Afterwards she said, “Thanks,” and returned to the stove, her T-shirt still around her neck.
Happy, but a little puzzled, I asked, “What was that all about?”
She explained, “The egg timer’s broken.”

This year is shaping up to be a year to remember with host, Jack Schit, revved up motorcycle events and a great line-up of music including Derek St. Holmes (vocalist and rhythm guitarist from the Ted Nugent Band) and the legendary Pat Travers on Friday, March 16th along with many other bands paying tribute to rock and roll’s elite throughout the event! The Broken Spoke Saloon Daytona is located at 1151 North U.S. Highway 1 in Ormond Beach.
The music begins on Friday, March 9th and continues through Saturday, March 17th with Derek St. Holmes rockin’ out classic hits such as, “Stranglehold,” “Cat Scratch Fever” and “Free-for-All” along with Pat Travers giving you all the guitar you can handle on the hits, “Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights)” and “Snortin’ Whiskey” on March 16th. Also performing will be Playboy cover girl and professional wrestler Christy Hemme, Lucas Hoge, Joe Santana, Jasmine Cain, Farrell Webber, Trans Ams, DJ Jazzy Josh, Slo Clap, Straight Shooter (Bad Company Tribute), Last Child (Aerosmith Tribute), Smooth (Santana Tribute), 7 Bridges Road (Eagles Tribute) and Houses of the Holy (Led Zeppelin Tribute) all rockin’ the Broken Spoke Saloon stage.

MYRTLE BEACH APPROVES SHORTER RALLY–Horry Council aims to reduce vendors’ days. A full house turned out for Tuesday’s Horry County Council meeting to see council members pass first reading of an ordinance that would shorten the vendor permit period for the spring biker rally from seven consecutive days to five.
A majority vote was needed to move the ordinance to a second reading, and that’s exactly what it got. It passed on a 7-5 vote, with council members Al Allen, James Frazier, Bob Grabowski, Jody Prince and Harold Worley opposing. Before the vote, an amendment was approved that stated special event permits also would only be for five days during biker rally.

EFFORT TO ALTER TENNESSEE’S HELMET LAW FAILS–State Motorcyclists will have to wait another year to renew their efforts to do away with Tennessee’s helmet law.
Republican Rep. Judd Matheny of Tullahoma on Tuesday told the House Transportation subcommittee that he’s withdrawing his bill seeking to end helmet requirements for adult riders.

Hardtail San Jose
With the Bennett’s Performance built 96-inch twin cam in San Jose at the Hardtailz shop, Ron William’s and his crew started pulling the old magic rabbits out of the hat. My ’04 Dyna hot rod has been parked in the way for a little over a year, waiting on a fresh start.
The previous engine rolled the last 75,000 as a 124-inch hot rod, then Ron and his crew added and tuned a Aerocharger Turbo. Seems the Turbo pushed the head gaskets out in a spot or two causing a slight loss of power along with a whistling noise that only a young man with good ears might hear? What? The head gaskets are leaking?
Early last Tuesday morning after the usual blast of caffeine to clear last night’s cobwebs the Hardtailz crew eased the new trusty Dyna onto the main operating table for a fresh 96.84 cubic inch Twin Cam power plant.
The Dyna’s worn out 2004 H-D cases had rolled coast to coast, rain, snow, back alleys, club houses, motorcycle shops, massage parlors, to the drag strip a few times, and set 2 Bonneville records in 2009 all while performing damned near flawlessly.
The men at Hardtailz are tune-up masters and they ride a motorcycle everyday and have forever.
Randy at Hyperformance rebuilt the twin cam cases to better than stock condition, Timken bearings, new races and a precision check over from top to bottom. After a ton of miles the head studs are still anchored perfectly to the cases.
Components
Starting with the fresh cases Eric at Bennett’s installed the following: A balanced, unbelievable Darkhorse Crankworks 4-inch stroke lower end with H beam rods; the top end consisted of RevTech 3.927 forged 9.5-to-1 pistons and cylinder kit; then Fueling .574 Reaper Series hydraulic chain drive cams, H-D cam support and oil pump, Fueling race series lifters and pushrods, Fueling gasket kit; Branch/O’Keefe massaged heads for maximum flow and go, polished intake, (possible top secret throttle body- no butterfly), Crane roller rockers w/S&S support plate, E.T.Krankvents, Samson exhaust system, JIM’s cam cover heat sink and Roland Sand’s latest see through air cleaner to top it off.

NINJA RECALLS– Motorcycle maker Kawasaki Motors Corp. is recalling certain Ninja ZX10R models from the 2008 to 2011 model years, and ZX-6R models from 2009 to 2012 because of an electrical problem that could keep their batteries from receiving the proper charge. The recall affects 20,544 bikes built from Dec. 14, 2007, through July 26, 2011.
If the battery discharges, the motorcycle could stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Kawasaki said dealers will replace the bikes’ voltage regulators free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Feb. 27. Owners may contact Kawasaki at 949-770-0400.

I ALMOST SPACED ON THE ENDING–I’m scrambling on the next Mudflap Girl FXR story. I’m on the brink of firing up my son’s FXR, and you’ll see the story in the next couple of days.
