LA CALENDAR SHOW, HOLLISTER, SMOKE-OUT NEWS FOR JULY 11, 2013

Hey,

Another packed weekend unfolds, and I’m not sure what to make out of it. Friday night Arlen Ness’s Birthday Dinner rocks at the Peterson Museum, then a display all weekend. A Hamster ride is scheduled for Saturday, but I have a grant meeting, then a memorial ride for George Hayward, who just passed away. And Sunday is the LA Calendar show at the Queen Mary. We will have our apparel line on display and my Mudflap Girl FXR.

But I’ll need to jam back to the headquarters to handle the Sunday Post. We better roll on the news before Mike Jones calls to discuss his new Harley movie effort. This guy is so passionate about the industry and H-D that he moved to Milwaukee to be close to the vibe. We will bring you some damn exciting news about his film effort in the very near future.

Most of the shots here didn’t make the Smoke Out coverage cut, but they were tool cool to let pass.

The Thursday news is sponsored in part by IronWorks and Cycle Source magazines.

TSA SCREENING ARE AN UNNECESSARY BLIGHT ON ALL AMERICANS–Retired Marine Cpl. Nathan Kemnitz was subject to extra TSA screening because he was wearing ‘too much metal.’ (Courtesy Patricia Martin)

By Patricia Kime Staff writer’

Wearing the uniform of the Few and Proud doesn’t rate preferential treatment from the Transportation Security Administration or California capitol security officers, retired Marine Cpl. Nathan Kemnitz recently found.

Kemnitz, severely injured in 2004 in a roadside bomb attack in Fallujah, has limited use of his right arm and cannot lift it above his head. So when security guards at the state capitol building in Sacramento, Calif., asked him to remove his dress blue blouse “because he was wearing too much metal,” and TSA asked him to raise his arms above his head for the full-body scanner at Sacramento International Airport, he could not comply.

“My right arm doesn’t work. It’s a lot of hassle for me to do that,” Kemntiz said. At the state capitol, the Marine’s refusal to remove his uniform top grew into a heated exchange between Kemnitz, a friend who was accompanying him and security officers. At the airport, bystanders stared as the TSA security screener looked under Kemnitz’s medals, ran his hands under the Marine’s waistband and swabbed his shoes for explosives.

“What does a uniform and heroism represent if our own citizens — in this case employees of the TSA and security personnel — have no regard for them?” wrote Kemnitz’s escort, Patricia Martin, to Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki following the incidents.??Martin took photos and disseminated them to family, friends and members of the media.?

“I feel so strongly that you need to know just how shamefully even a Purple Heart recipient/disabled veteran can be treated by some TSA and security employees,” she said. Kemnitz said after the incidents that he was not as annoyed with TSA officers as he was with a security screener at the California state capitol, whom he described as rude and unapologetic.

Kemnitz was visiting the building to be honored as his legislative district’s veteran of the year. “At some places I’m treated like royalty and at some like a terrorist. There’s got to be something in the middle,” he said.

The incident was not the first to spark similar outrage. In January, NBC journalist Luke Russert tweeted his irritation at an enhanced security screening at Reagan National Airport of a troop wearing a prosthetic. “Making Wounded Warriors with prosthetic legs go through extra explosives screening. #fail,” Russert wrote.

In March, bystanders notified Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., about what they perceived to be maltreatment of a double amputee by TSA screeners at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport. Concurrent with that incident, TSA announced it had changed its rules to eliminate a requirement that injured troops remove their shoes, jackets or hats. But to receive the expedited service, TSA asks affected personnel to call the agency’s Military Severely Injured Joint Service Operations Center before traveling.

TSA also offers escorted “curb-to-gate service” for injured or ill personnel who request it as well as the TSA Pre program to service members with a military common access card at four airports: Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and Washington Dulles International Airport.??

The Senate Sergeant-At-Arms is responsible for security screenings at the California capitol building. No one was available Friday to speak with the media regarding the incident.

JOHN FOGERTY, UNCLE KRACKER, 2-DAY TICKETS ATTED TO THE 110th –-100,000 thundering motorcycles, 60-plus bands, including 3 amazing headliners. A massive motorcycle parade. All the food and drink you care to have. The opportunity to ride Harley-Davidson’s all new Model Year 2014 motorcycles …free tattoos…custom bikes shows…the legendary UFC Octagon.

And now a new 2-day ticket option.

“When we have fun, we go full throttle,” said Harley-Davidson Chief Marketing Officer Mark-Hans Richer. “We know there are other music festivals and motorcycle rallies, but our 110th in Milwaukee will be an epic bash. You won’t want to miss it. It only happens once every five years.”

The Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary Celebration over Labor Day weekend is fast approaching, with non-stop events geared toward all kinds of Harley fans – riders, locals, visitors and families.

2-Day Ticket Option

The creation of a tw–day ticket option was driven by customer feedback as many nationwide reached out requesting more ticketing options.

“So now even your boss can’t stop you from joining us,” Richer added. “This isn’t just a party – it will be the party of the year. Tickets and rooms are still available, but going fast.”

The 2-day ticket is $79 plus convenience fees and is now available at www.h-d.com/110tickets. The ticket is good for any 2 days of the 3-day party, Aug. 29 – 31. Harley-Davidson will not offer 1-day tickets.

Three-day tickets, available for $95 plus convenience fees, and 2-day tickets each provide access to the 110th Anniversary party headquarters, the Milwaukee Summerfest Grounds. During the 3-day event, fans can see dozens of bands on 5 different stages ranging from emerging stars to legendary groups, as well as check out police and H.O.G. motorcycle stunts, precision riding shows and special Harley-Davidson product displays and exhibits.

In addition to the 60 acts that will take the various stages of the Summerfest Grounds during the 110th Anniversary celebration in Milwaukee, Harley-Davidson will also feature 3 headlining concerts each night of the event and a UFC fight Saturday night (Aug. 31).

Country superstar Toby Keith (Aug. 29), Rock n’ Roll Hall-of-Famers Aerosmith (Aug. 30) and Kid Rock (Aug. 31) will each take the stage at Marcus Amphitheater. Tickets for Toby Keith begin at $20, while Aerosmith and Kid Rock tickets start at $24.50 each plus convenience fees – tickets for all three concerts are available at www.h-d.com/110tickets. Country music singer-songwriter Kip Moore will open for Toby Keith. Moore hit the top of the country charts in 2011 with his single “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck,” which was followed by the release of his debut album Up All Night.

Fogerty, the former lead singer, guitarist and writer for Creedence Clearwater Revival, has the distinction of being named to Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Guitarists” and “100 Greatest Singers.” Fogerty’s new album, “Wrote a Song for Everyone,” debuted in the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at #3 earlier this year, selling 50,000+ copies in its first week. This will be his first on-stage appearance since his new album dropped.

Rocker Uncle Kracker will open for Kid Rock, while music legend John Fogerty will sit in with the American ‘Badass’ for one set during Kid Rock’s concert Aug. 31. Uncle Kracker’s hits include the two-time platinum, multi-format smash hit “Smile;” the Top 5 hit “Follow Me;” as well as “Drift Away,” which set the Billboard record for most weeks at No. 1 on any chart. Uncle Kracker met Kid Rock during a turntable competition near Detroit when he was a teenager. He later became the DJ for Kid Rock’s Twisted Brown Trucker Band before launching a solo career. His latest album Midnight Special features his upcoming single “Blue Skies.”

UFC 164 Harley-Davidson Hometown Throwdown

Fans can also witness one of the hardest-hitting live fights of the year, the UFC 164 Harley-Davidson Hometown Throwdown at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Saturday evening. The action-packed card will feature more than 10 bouts, including a UFC Lightweight Championship challenge between the current champion Benson Henderson and top contender TJ Grant and a fight between two former UFC Heavyweight champions, Frank Mir and Josh Barnett. Tickets for the UFC Hometown Throwdown range from $60 to $400 before taxes and fees.

H.O.G. 30TH Anniversary

On Thursday, Aug. 29 between noon and 5 p.m., Harley-Davidson will celebrate the 30th anniversary of H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group), the official riding club of Harley-Davidson. The event will feature exclusive early entry for H.O.G. members, live entertainment including Lynyrd Skynyrd and nine other brands, a H.O.G. precision riding competition, a New Orleans-style walking parade and a members-only Muscular Dystrophy Association bike raffle. In addition, there will be the largest-ever H.O.G. member family photo, a “Dream Ride Contest” and a H.O.G. 30th anniversary time capsule, which will be sealed on Labor Day and reopened in 2043.

A guy goes into the confessional box. He finds on one wall a small bar with Guinness on tap. On the other wall is a box of the finest Cuban cigars. On the seat is the latest Playboy.

Finally, the priest comes in.

“Father, forgive me, for it’s been a very long time since I’ve been to confession, but I must first admit that the confessional box is much more inviting these days.”

The priest replies, “Get out. You’re on my side.”

The word Hollister has been synonymous with California motorcycle rallies for decades. It secured its place in pop culture from the 1954 film “The Wild One” with Marlon Brando, which is based on the 1947 rally. The free motorcycle and street music festival (30 bands on 4 stages) featured Yamaha demo rides, vendors, a food festival, a vintage and Cafe Racer ride-in show, poker runs, bike games, Beer Garden and the premier custom bike show.

Hollister teems with history. It is universally recognized that “the birth of the American biker” occurred during the infamous Gypsy Tour motorcycle event at Hollister over the Fourth of July holiday weekend in 1947. Fast forward to 2013 and the American biker is alive and well and enjoying life. The bikers, vendors and shoppe owners all had a smile on their face.

REBELS MC PLANTS THEIR FLAG IN THE TOP END OF AUSTRALIA–Local Northern Territory media are reporting a motorcycle club has grown its presence in the Territory with the aid of social media and has set up a clubhouse, flying in the face of police tough talk to stamp them out.

The NT news says the Darwin chapter of the Rebels motorcycle club has posted pictures of its patched members and its clubhouse on its public Facebook page, which has more than 1400 followers.

The newspaper says the Northen Territory police and the Rebels were asked to comment on the story, but both refused.

In 2011, the police warned that Rebels were “not welcome” and that cops were “pulling out all stops to disrupt their activities” and “watching them very closely.”

But the page was set up almost a year ago, in August 2012, gaining more than 100 followers a month.

It is believed the club has seven fully patched members in the NT, with many more off-siders and associates.

Historical pictures of past runs and dead Rebels get supporting posts such as “1%” or an “RFFR” comments .

The timeline has been emblazoned with drawings of skulls with slogans, but also Anzac Day memorials. About a dozen faces regularly popped up on screen.

There were requests to join from Facebook members. One female user even asked where she could meet single Rebels.

NT Police have run a campaign of agitating bikers – and fined them for drug, weapons and traffic offences where possible. Bikers were briefly banned from wearing colours in Territory bars while the Hells Angels were in Darwin celebrating 20 years of the local chapter earlier this year. Police were sent to the NT border with South Australia, and set up roadblocks all the way to Darwin in preparation for the trip. No violence or crime was reported.

But there has been a colourful record of Rebels-related crime in recent years. Last month, court documents revealed Jared Davis – believed to be a long time Rebels member – was allegedly trying to get drugs from civilian Phillip Noel Kaye, 35, through prison officer Sarah Dawn Rudd. The arrests of Mr Kaye and Ms Rudd were part of a corruption sting in the Territory’s public service. Mr Davis has not been charged with drug possession in prison.

The same Rebel biker has been linked by police to the HMAS Coonawarra weapons ‘heist,’ where fourteen firearms were stolen from the Darwin navy base patrol boat .

TORNADO SURVIVOR GETS HIS DREAM BIKE FROM BRASS BALLS BOBBERS–
The Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert, organized & headlined by country music super star Toby Keith, was the perfect venue to present Gerald Mobley with his bike named “Twisted.” Gerald was building his dream bike in his garage for the past two years. But the May 20th tornado took his home, most of his belongings, and left him with a beat up motorcycle frame and powertrain.

Along with the help of many vendors, we built his bike for him. We fixed the frame. S&S Cycle completely rebuilt his motor giving him an 8-inch Hot Set Up kit from their Service & Speed Center.

Rivera provided an inner primary. Biker’s Choice gave us many of the fill in parts that are so often overlooked, like a kick stand, fender & struts, coil, gauge, etc. Thunder Custom Cycles donated hand controls, brakes & rotors and a battery. 8Fifty Speed Shop sent us derby cover and other items.

Wild One sent us Chubby Outlaw bars. LePera provided an amazingly comfortable Sorrento seat. Outlaw Polishing polished up so many items for free. Diversified Plating chromed many items for free. D&D donated a Chrome Fat Cat exhaust. Suspension Technologies donated a set of their amazing softail shocks,

Hix Design made a custom leather tank panel. Scallywag Customs is doing a custom tool bag and Ryan Townsend donated his talents providing a killer paint job. So many great people and companies. Big props to these people.

Big thanks also to Toby Keith who allowed us to present the bike to Gerald at his concert. We’d also like to thank James Pratt for being the catalyst for this project and for the photos.

ANNUAL HAMSTER CHARITY AUCTION–
The Monday event is the single largest get-together of Hamsters during the year. The silent auction held that night to benefit Children’s Care Hospital & School is a focal point for many. Hamsters USA “captains and friends” from around the country work as a team to have the most amazing auction items donated.

As you can imagine, when the most distinguished custom motorcycle builders in the world are involved, some pretty incredible items are donated! The industry truly stands behind this Hamsters USA fund-raising effort. The prominent companies in the world recognize the value of this great cause and donate some of the finest motorcycle parts.

Hamsters USA members and supporters donate nearly everything imaginable including art, fine wine, wonderful cigars, great clothing and apparel, unique musical instruments, jewelry, and even furniture!

In 2010, the Hamsters USA organization surpassed the one million dollar mark in their financial support of Children’s Care Hospital & School. Supporting this wonderful charity in such a big way does not define this amazing group – it is just one of the remarkable things they do. This fundraising effort has always been and always will be about the kids and especially about supporting one another.

CHILDREN’S CARE – RAPID CITY, SD

Children’s Care Rapid City is focused on helping children with special needs and fundamentally believes that all kids deserve to reach their greatest potential. They provide a comprehensive set of services that bridge the medical, behavioral, educational demands, and rehabilitation of children with a wide variety of special needs.

Hamsters Come Through Again For Kids

At Children’s Care, when we think of Hamsters, we think of the international motorcycle group that has the biggest hearts imaginable for kids with special needs. Hamsters USA has championed the work of Children’s Care of Rapid City for the past six years, seeing an opportunity to help kids with special challenges in the state they love for the annual motorcycle gathering at Sturgis. This past August at their gathering in the Black Hills, they raised $257,000 through a silent auction, cash raffle, and individual donations.

Chrome Heart Award recognizes bikers with big hearts. Last year’s award went to the late Hamster P.J. Otten, accepted by his wife Sheri and their daughters.

The Children’s Care mission to children & families
Children’s Care Hospital & School, established in 1952 in Sioux Falls and expanded to Rapid City in 1985, believes that all children deserve to reach their greatest potential. As an independent, non-profit organization, we offer a broad continuum of healthcare and educational services for children from birth through age 21.

Children’s Care in Rapid City offers developmental screenings, consultations, and direct care in speech, physical and occupational therapy; special education; psychology/behavioral challenges; and assistive technology. Children’s Care provides family-centered programs on an outpatient and outreach basis, providing services onsite and in homes and schools throughout western South Dakota and areas of Wyoming and Nebraska.

Members of Hamsters USA were instrumental in the raising of funds for this facility. In honor of this group of big-hearted bikers, the Learning & Conference Center, as well as the playground area, is named for the Hamsters, with the logo displayed in both areas. Thank you for helping kids have a fighting chance in life!

The T111 engine is slightly shorter than the stock engine, but the pipes
can still be used. Needless to say we’d prefer to see Gary running our

the shims at the transmission mount.

DID YOU SEE THE TRUCK-LITE ROGUE TECH ON BIKERNET BAGGERS—Here’s an update from Rogue.

http://www.bikernetbaggers.com/pages/LED_PASSING_LAMPS_FOR_TOURING_BIKES.aspx

The Truck-Lite running lamps only draw 0.7 Amps and that is a considerable drop from the standard bulb or the halogen replacements.

The Running Lamps are designed for later model Harleys and have the new connector, but they can be used on earlier models by removing the connector and replacing with the earlier style.

These lights provide superior lighting at very low amperage draw and make them a life saver for some of the earlier low-amp alternator and generator model Harleys.

As mentioned in the previous article on the Headlight, it only draws 3.6 amps on High Beam and 1.8 amps on low.

The 27270C bulb is a drop in replacement for #6014, 6015, 6016, H6024 and Par 56 lamp systems using standard H4 3 blade connector. Because the LED lamp only draws 3.6 amps on high beam and 1.8 amps on low beam it is ideal for many motorcycle systems with low output alternators and or generators. –

BIKERNET AND ROGUE BAD COP FILES NOW OPEN–Really Bad Cop; He was found GUILTY and only got 36 months in jail For Killing This Woman.

I am sure that on top of that he will get gain time (good time) and actually do less.

A Sunday School teacher was shot to death by a police officer in a church parking lot earlier this week in Culpeper, Virginia.

The female Sunday School teacher was sitting in her car while the officer was standing next to the driver’s side door talking with her. The officer claimed that the woman rolled up her window on his arm and dragged him down the street, but an eye witness to the tragedy says otherwise.

The video below is a local news report that interviews a man who says he saw the officer demand the woman keep her window rolled down. When she did not comply, he fired once. When she started driving away, the officer shot into the car five more times.

We don’t have all the information at this time. It’s unclear why the officer was talking to the woman in the first place, but given that she was a Sunday School teacher in a church parking lot, it would be surprising to hear she was up to anything too malicious.

UPDATE: The officer, 33-year-old Daniel Harmon-Wright, was found guilty of manslaughter and given 36 months in jail. Throughout the trial, Harmon-Wright maintained his innocence after responding to a call to investigate why a woman was parked in the church parking lot. A jury found him guilty.

ADELAIDE FACTORY TO STAY OPEN, SAVING 110 JOBS– Harley-Davidson, has saved 110 jobs by reversing its decision to close its Adelaide, South Australia, manufacturing plant.

The Milwaukee-based firm has struck a four-year extension to the lease of its New Castalloy factory at North Plympton as workers voted yesterday to accept a new four-year wage agreement, securing their future.

The State Government, which owns the Mooringe Ave plant, waived rent at the site to help secure the deal after months of talks in a major boon for manufacturing in SA.

Harley-Davidson had announced in December 2011 it would close the component- and wheel-making plant by the middle of this year .

It has already shed about 90 of 212 workers since that announcement.

Harley-Davidson vice president of manufacturing, John Dansby II, in Australia for discussions regarding the future of the plant, said it had determined that New Castalloy can be competitive at producing low-volume, high-finish specialty wheels.

“Harley-Davidson regularly assesses the competitiveness of our supply base and sources work accordingly,” he said.

“Through this evaluation process, we have determined that New Castalloy can be competitive at producing low-volume, high-finish specialty wheels and provides the optimal supply base for these components.

“We appreciate the support of the New Castalloy employees for their continued focus on operational competitiveness.”

He said New Castalloy is “expected to employ a workforce of about 110”.

“The South Australian Government has worked closely with us to help ensure the facility’s future competitiveness,” Mr Dansby said.

Harley-Davidson saved New Castalloy from extinction in 2006 to secure its supply of wheels and wheel hubs after previous supplier Ion went into receivership in 2004.

It leased the site from the Government, which bought the land for almost $9 million in return for New Castalloy’s continued operations guaranteed until November 2011.

The firm was producing about 1450 wheels and 500 wheel hubs per day for Harley-Davidson before restructuring began in 2009.

News of New Castalloy’s survival came the same day as Manufacturing Minister Tom Kenyon said he feared Holden might close its manufacturing operations in Australia before the end of the year.
Mr Kenyon said New Castalloy now had time to explore future business innovations and staff skills development.

“The employees at New Castalloy are already highly skilled but it’s important that people have the opportunities to continually improve their talents,” he said.

Harley-Davidson had flagged a 2013 closure of New Castalloy to become more cost competitive in face of the global financial crisis.

Australian Workers’ Union SA branch president Peter Lamps said workers had overwhelmingly voted to accept a new, four-year Enterprise Agreement, which preserved all conditions, including improved redundancy and shift penalty entitlements and guaranteed annual wage rises of 3.25 per cent.

UNCLE MONKEY ON SAVE THE LIFE GUARD–
One of the most important life lessons I learnt was talking to one of my friends who was an emergency first response trainer. He trained people from all walks of life on how to rescue and save people from lifeguards to EMT’s. I was surprised when he said the most critical lesson he taught was to “save the life guard.”

The primary duty of saving someone is to save yourself first. It seemed illogical but as he explained the greatest danger to lifeguards was being drowned by the very person they are trying to save. The majority of people drowning want to be saved and though panicked they listen to the life guard and let them take them back to the shore.

Others need to be calmed down before the lifeguard can help them. But sadly, he explained that there are people that are so desperate, so panicked, so un-listening, that if the lifeguard became too close the person would frantically drown them trying to stay above water.

He taught them that they needed to stay away and wait for the person to drown, to go lifeless before they could save them. His words stuck with me.
It was years later when my brother’s alcoholism spiraled out of control that addiction councillors and his physiatrists reminded me of that lesson. He asks for help but refused to accept it. He lashes out violently when they try to help. His only goal is to drag others into the hellish nightmare that he created for himself.

I had tried to save him but the point came that I needed to save myself. I walked away and stopped enabling him, stop giving him another excuse to drink. Our mother couldn’t do the same thing. When he lost his home she let him move in with her. Immediately he began draining her of everything. When she refused to give him money for booze he shoved her down a flight of stairs and threatened to kill her with a butcher knife. Fortunately the neighbours call the cops. He went through the motions to stay out of jail and my mother let him back into her home. It has been a continuing cycle since then.

My mother phoned early one morning last week to tell me that my brother had once again tried to kill her. She had managed to get away and call the cops while he turned the knife on himself. She was shaken up but ok and he was jail. I spent the morning scrambling to get everything in order, so I could go see her that afternoon. As I informed family with PM’s on facebook what had happened posts from my brother began to appear, bragging how he had spent the night in jail, how he was at home and we all needed to apologize to him because he was the victim here.

Less then three hours after my mother had him arrested for trying to murder her she bailed him out of jail and took him back into her home. It was my breaking point. Like for my brother I have to walk away from my mother, from the hellish nightmare that she is living. She cries for help but refuses to save herself instead tries to drag me down with her.

I know it is hard for many of you to understand how someone can turn their back on their family, on their loved ones. We are supposed to be there for them no matter what, to save them or die trying. Some will say I’m weak, selfish, cold hearted but I know that there are those out there who have lived what I have, that have had to make the same difficult decision I have. There are people right know facing that very decision to stay or leave. To them I say you are not alone; save yourself before it is too late.

“BANDO’S” GET AN EXTRA TWO RACES AT IRWINDALE–
AUGUST 16 & 17 EVENTS ADDED TO THE SCHEDULE

Irwindale, Calif. – – Sometimes you just can’t get enough of a good thing, and … if it’s Bandolero racing at Irwindale Speedway, adding a pair of races for the mini-size stock cars on August 16 and 17 is a real good thing.

The popular young driver’s (ages 8 to 14) division will add a Friday and a Saturday night race to their schedule bringing their 2013 racing season at Irwindale to a nice, round 10 races.

After the first four races of the season, Number 11 Rickey Lewis of Oxnard leads the 2013 points chase with 198 points (he’s won three of the four Bandolero races and finished second in the other one!). Number 23 Ryan Vargas of La Mirada is second in points a 186 (he’s got the other win and a string of good finishes), and Austin Farr, number 52, from Lomita is not far behind at third in points with 168.

“These kids put on a real show on our fast and tricky inner third-mile,” said Race Director Mike Atkinson. “… They’re about the most serious bunch of drivers (and crews) that race at the Speedway. I love to watch them, I see a lot of future racing stars out there!”

More about this national class for youngsters is available on-line at www.600racing.com, Each Bandolero car is technically identical, engine, bodywork, and racing tires. The only difference is the paint job and the (of course) the driver.

All of the young Bando drivers will all be out on the front straightaway at 5:45pm on Saturday August 17 for the Speedway’s regular On-Track Autograph Session. It’s a great place for kids and their parents to find out about the first step on the road to a real racing career.

Discount tickets for the Saturday night, August 17, race are on sale now on the track’s website: www.irwindaleeventecenter.com.

The rest of that night’s card will see the Lucas Oil Late Models, the Lucas Oil Modified, the Progressive Painting Race Trucks, and the INEX Legends Cars all on track at Irwindale. It really should be a great night of racing!

ROGUE’S BAD POLITICS FILE OPENS–North Carolina Republicans Quietly Attach Abortion
Restrictions To Motorcycle Safety Bill

North Carolina Republicans Quietly Attach Abortion Restrictions To Motorcycle Safety Bill

By Tara Culp-Ressler

Not satisfied with their efforts to force through stringent abortion restrictions by attaching them to an anti-Sharia bill, Republican lawmakers in North Carolina are trying again. This time, without providing any public notice, they have quietly inserted anti-abortion amendments into a measure about motorcycle safety.

House Republicans have tweaked SB 353 – a transportation measure that was approved by the Senate in April – to include most of the same abortion restrictions they attached to the anti-Sharia bill last week.

Now, in addition to changing safety standards for motorcycle riders, the legislation would also place burdensome regulations on abortion clinics that could force many of them to close their doors.

The decision to amend SB 353 came just hours after North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) threatened to veto the stringent abortion amendments tacked onto the anti-Sharia measure. The Republican governor expressed concerns that the abortion provisions were too broad and would end up simply limiting women’s access to reproductive care – a well-founded fear that has been confirmed by women’s health advocates in the state.

GOP lawmakers are hoping the new amendments attached to the motorcycle bill, which are slightly narrower in scope, will address those concerns and ultimately win McCrory’s approval. The abortion restrictions were approved by the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday morning after a party-line vote.

Democrats in the House had no idea that their GOP colleagues had plans to add the abortion-related amendments to SB 353. Some of them found out just three minutes before the committee meeting began.

“The process here is just dead wrong,” Rep. Joe Sam Queen (D) said in reference to the last-minute addition of the abortion restrictions. Republicans used a similar under-the-radar process to sneak abortion provisions onto the Sharia-related bill. Before the Senate health committee tacked on those amendments, the committee’s public schedule made no mention that reproductive health issues would be up for debate. McCror condemned
that stealth move last week.

“It is a disgrace to North Carolina that legislators have again resorted to sneak attacks to move their anti-women’s health agenda forward,” Melissa
Reed, Planned Parenthood Health Systems’s Vice President of Public Affairs, said in a statement. “This is outrageous and not how the people’s business should be conducted.”

THE BIKERNET BAD COP SCANDAL SHEET–Sex scandal embroils Lakeland police dept.

Prosecutor calls events ‘at worst, a moral bankruptcy’

–By Tamara Lush,Associated Press

LAKELAND — Authorities are investigating a widespread sex scandal involving nearly a dozen police officers in one Florida city after a civilian crime analyst detailed trysts with the men in police and fire stations, patrol cars, motels and even in a parking lot after a memorial service for a slain officer.

Sue Eberle, 37, has told officials that she had consensual and sometimes coerced sex with the officers and a firefighter, and that she once was propositioned by a city worker in Lakeland. Eberle’s accounts of the liaisons were largely corroborated by her sexual partners and others within the police department, and published in a graphic, 59-page report by the county’s top prosecutor. It said the department’s problems investigating crimes might be caused by some high-ranking officers being more interested in having sex with Eberle than doing their jobs.

“The investigation revealed an extraordinary amount of sexual conduct that was committed both on duty and off duty,” wrote Jerry Hill, Polk County’s state attorney, in the report dated June 25. “ We find the conduct of a number of sworn officers, including some officers of rank, to be, at best, a waste of taxpayer dollars. At worst, their actions indicate a moral bankruptcy that exists amongst some individuals within the ranks at the Lakeland Police Department.”

Eberle, who has retained an attorney, recounted for Hill how she had sex in police cars, cemeteries and motels with different officers — and in the parking lot outside a reception that followed the December 2011 funeral of Officer Arnulfo Crispin, who had been fatally shot on duty. She also said officers and some supervisors pressured her for sex.

“She was a target. She was weak. And they knew that they could take advantage of that, so they preyed upon her. They preyed upon her, and that’s what’s so sick about it,” Eberle’s attorney, David Linesch, said during a recent news conference.

Linesch’s spokeswoman said Eberle is not granting interviews at this time. The Associated Press typically does not identify alleged victims of sexual assault. However, Eberle has gone public with her story.

Sen. Paul Introduces Downsize DC’s ‘One subject at a time’ bill—

Submitted by Matt Sterba

AKRON, Ohio, July 16, 2012 — [PRNewswire-USNewswire] — “It’s been a long time since Congress needed a majority to pass a law,” says Jim Babka, President of DownsizeDC.org, Inc. “But that could change, thanks to Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, who has introduced our ‘One Subject at a Time Act’ (OSTA) in the Senate.”

“OSTA would require each bill Congress passes to be about one subject only,” Babka explains. “This would end the practice of clustering unrelated measures into one package. Congressional leaders have long used this trick to pass unpopular laws on the strength of the popular proposals with which they’re unnaturally joined. OSTA would end this fraud forever.”

“Every bill would have to stand or fall on its own merits,” declares Babka.

By introducing OSTA (S. 3359), Senator Paul fulfills a campaign promise. In a recent debate, Senator Paul noted, “No wonder our approval rating is 10 percent. Nobody knows what we’re voting on. In fact, things have been stuck in this bill last night that have nothing to do with any of these bills and we’re just now discovering it.”

“But multi-subject bills are an old bipartisan problem. DownsizeDC.org created OSTA in response to numerous omnibus bills passed when the Republicans controlled Congress. For instance, the massively unpopular Real ID Act was only passed because the Republican leadership included it in an Emergency Troop Appropriation bill. That bill also included tsunami relief! Another example is the ban on Internet poker. It was included in a Port Security bill,” says Babka.

OSTA was introduced in the House (H.R. 3806), back in January, by Representative Tom Marino (R-PA). It has several co-sponsors.

Babka commends Senator Paul for keeping his word. “It’s a rare politician that honors his promises. Now we can begin to collect Senate co-sponsors for this vital reform,” Babka concluded.

RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA: German motorcycle enthusiasts hold gathering—
Phillip Blackburn calls it his elegant old lady.

By Stephen Wall, Press Enterprise

The Vista resident proudly displayed his 1952 BMW motorcycle at a gathering of German bike enthusiasts Saturday morning, July 6.

“It’s my elegant old lady, but it’s my elegant old lady friend,” said Blackburn, 70. “It has an art deco look. It’s just a nice bike.”

About 20 vintage German motorcycles lined the street in front of Mike Dunn’s home in the Orangecrest neighborhood of Riverside for the inaugural “Sommer Motorrad Treffen,” which means Summer Motorcycle Event in German.

Dunn has been building and selling pre-World War II and World War II German motorcycles from his three-car garage for more than a decade. He and friend Jeff Moore decided it was time to hold an event strictly featuring German motorcycles made from 1930 to 1969.

Dunn said it was the largest gathering of pre-war, wartime and post-war German bikes in one spot that he is aware of.

“Every motorcycle event you see in California, it’s always Harleys and Indians,” said Dunn, 44. “It seems to be always catered to those bikes. We’re German bike owners. I’m excited to pull this many bikes in one location.”

Dunn’s specialty is restoring Zundapp motorcycles, which were manufactured in Germany and used by the military or sold to the civilian population.

As he spoke, a trailer pulled into Dunn’s driveway and unloaded a KS 500, a 1937 Zundapp model that he said sold for the equivalent of about $8,000 in those days. A KS 500 with a sidecar was also displayed at the event.

“I only know of four of these in the USA, and two of them are here,” Dunn said. “This was a very expensive bike. You had to have money back then.”

Dunn said he doesn’t care for the comfort and luxury of modern motorcycles.

“I like the fact that it’s so simple,” he said. “Everything’s basic. It’s easy to ride. There’s not signals and blinkers and not all this complicated stuff. It’s just a man and a machine riding a bike.”

Moore, a 47-year-old Corona resident, showed off his BMW R51/2, which was made only in 1950. It was the first twin-engine motorcycle made after war restrictions imposed on Germany were lifted, he explained.

The quality of engineering found in German bikes is superior to other brands of the era, he said.

“Beauty, elegance, cleanliness of design, simplicity. Those are things I really appreciate about them,” Moore said.

Dan Sutton said he has documentation that his 1937 BMW R35 was purchased by the German Army in 1940 and sent to the Eastern Front during World War II. It was captured by the Russians and ended up in the surplus market in Lithuania in the 1950s. Sutton said he bought it online for $3,000 and spent five years and several thousand dollars more restoring it.

“The lines of the bike are so classic,” said Sutton, 34, of San Diego. “You can go to a car show and see line after line of Harley, Harley, Harley. You show up with one of these things and it’s a show-stopper.”

After displaying their bikes for a little more than an hour, riders took a quick trip to Lake Matthews before returning to Dunn’s home for German food and a barbecue.

Dunn said he hopes to see the event grow in coming years.

“This is wonderful to have this many bikes in one place,” said Evan Bell, owner of Irv Seaver Motorcycles, a 102-year-old BMW dealer in Orange. “We’ve been needing for someone to do something and get the ball rolling.”

JIMS ADDITIONAL TOOL OF THE DAY– Reverse Brake Bleeding Tool by Phoenix Systems

This patented brake bleeding technology makes servicing and bleeding the brake lines a snap! It’s simple physics, air rises. This tool will push the fluid from the caliper to the master cylinder.

There’s no guess work; you can easily watch the master cylinder reservoir for all of the air bubbles to be removed from the brake system. Once there are no air bubbles rising in the master cylinder – the brake lines are properly bled.

This tool is for use on all hydraulic brake or clutch systems. Note that some ABS systems will still need a Digital Technician for proper service work. For more information contact us at sales@jimsusa.com, visit www.jimsusa.com, or call 805-482-6913.
