VAS LEGAS Thursday NEW LIVE FOR October 3, 2013

Hey,

I’m trying to make a list. Yesterday it was as if every project from the front of the building to the dogs needed to be addressed. Hell, even the Bikernet van tires were deflating and screamed for attention.

I tried to keep a straight face throughout the day and just deal with each issue as quickly and efficiently as possible. Sin Wu used to say I needed to slow down, while she got ready to go to the gym or to go hang out with the girls. Could this be what’s messing with the kids of today? Maybe too many projects are shoving them in the other direction.

We couldn’t wait to own a car, but it was simple. Now it’s a costly pain in the ass, so kids wait for you to drive them, so they don’t need to think about car ownership, insurance, driver’s tests, smog testing, high traffic areas, new laws, mechanics no one understands, you name it. Let’s hit the news. I need to add to the list.

The Bikernet Thursday News is sponsored by IronWorks Magazine, Cycle Source Magazine, and Bikerpics.org.

BIKERNET BOOTH AT LAS VEGAS BIKE FEST HOSTS BOOK SIGNING THIS WEEKEND—You’ll be able to pick up a signed copy of the new biker book Kick Start, and kick it around with the author
Ralph “Teach” Elrod in the Cashman Center. Here’s a clip from Rogue’s review:

I was recently sent a book named KICK START and asked to read it and comment on it.
It is about the memories of an Outlaw Biker by the name of “Teach” a member of the BARONS MC a well-known motorcycle club, which started in 1966. He became a member on July 20, 1969 after hanging around with them for about a month.
In the Foreword he states: “The adventures I lived and the things I saw were no different than the lives of every other club patch holder. That history needs to be preserved for future generations. The ‘70s can’t be judged by today’s values, it was just too different! Times were tougher it seems and we patch holders had few civil rights as far as the citizens and cops were concerned.”

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation Announces Letter to the CDC from the United States Congress–The Motorcycle Riders Foundation has been working with United States Representative and longtime motorcycle defender Tom Petri of Wisconsin to send a letter to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) asking them to stop focusing on motorcycle safety.

The CDC released a report that claimed a universal motorcycle helmet law would save lives and money. The problem with the report was that it was simply a collection of a few antiquated studies done by a handful of government agencies which are just as unqualified to focus on motorcycle safety as the CDC.

“This letter will send a clear message to the CDC that Congress is extremely displeased that they are wasting precious tax payer money on areas completely outside their area of expertise” said Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation. “We don’t need the CDC to focus on motorcycles when there are plenty of other government agencies already working on this.”

The CDC report states that 41% of all fatal motorcycle accidents victims were not wearing a helmet. Simple math shows us that 59% were wearing helmets when they were involved in a fatal motorcycle crash. This is hardly a case for a universal helmet law.

Congressman Petri had this to say, “Given the demands on your budget and the unique ability of the CDC to address such pressing issues as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s and a host of other conditions and issues which afflict millions of Americans and others around the globe, we encourage you to direct your attention and resources to areas that are not currently already being addressed elsewhere in the government.”

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation urges you to contact your Representative in the United States House and ask them to co-sign this letter to the CDC. The larger the number of co-signers the greater impact it will have. Please contact your Representative at the United States Capitol switchboard which can be reached at (202) 224-3121 and ask them to co-sign the Petri CDC motorcycle letter. The deadline for co-signing this letter is close of business Tuesday, October 8th. Please act fast.

Hang on if ObamaCare goes into effect. The government will breathe on everything we do.—Bandit

BIKERNET STAFFER OF THE WEEK—Ben Lambeouf, Advertising Director: Born and raised in France in the late ‘60s and ‘70s, I grew up watching American movies like The Great Escape, Bullit, Easy Rider and Vanishing Point. Fascinated by all things that roared on two or four wheels, I set out to terrorize my neighborhood at age ten. At the time, I was behind the bars of a front-wheel drive Solex moped (look it up for a laugh). Running on an experimental and highly volatile mix of gasoline and ether, the world’s fastest Solex threw its only rod through the engine case during a late-night land speed record attempt. And so started my career in motorcycling… with a bang!

Years later, my thirst for thrills and a white-knuckle ride took me to California, where I was welcomed by Keith Ball and his rag tag team of V-twin freaks at Easyriders Magazine. This is where I learned all I could about print publishing for the next 17 years. I started as a translator for the French versions of various titles, and went on to become the editor of trade publication V-Twin News. Finally, I was given the opportunity to design and publish a hot rod lifestyle magazine. What a ride it was!

I now run the Bikernet Blog and sell online ad space for the Bikernet family of web sites. I also sell print advertising for IronWorks magazine, and I am fortunate to be working both for the print and the digital press.

TRIKE SETS RECORD–Bill Chambers of Bill Chambers Racing took a Lehman Trike conversion to the Bonneville Salt Flats this year and set a new world speed record for a 3000 cc push rod trike at the BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials, clocking in at 125.665 mph. His top speed was 129.5 mph.

That was good enough to capture the world record in its class from the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the motorcycle body that sanctions 90 associations worldwide.

Bill took the trike to Bonneville two years ago when it was the first trike to run on the salt. He set the record then but determined to come back and push the envelope a little more. This time he came with our Pegasus electronics fuel injection system installed on a 147 cu in VTwin from Aces and Eights Racing of Deadwood, South Dakota.

CHILE PEPPERS AND ROUTE 66–Our friend Jeff Najar had the opportunity to do some riding the 66 in New Mexico while he was setting things up for the 2014 IronWorks Magazine Chile Pepper Rally sponsored by Bikernet.com. While out on the road he turned in this report. We will run the whole tamale on Bikernet, but here’s a clip:

“I got on the horn with Marilyn Stemp, Editor of IronWorks Magazine, and explained that I couldn’t make Indian Larry’s Block Party in Brooklyn, New York, because I was heading West to New Mexico to get the gears turning on the 2014 IronWorks Magazine Chile Pepper Rally to be held in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Marilyn, being the multi-tasker that she is, put the arm on me to cover the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally in Ruidoso, New Mexico, too. So I added that to the list of duties.

I also told Edge, Promoter of the Chile Pepper, that I was heading to the Land of Enchantment, and he decided to hop a flight and meet me out there to assist in the ground campaign.

I landed at Albuquerque International Sunport at noon on Tuesday and hustled up to Santa Fe Harley-Davidson. I met with Tina Reeves, the shop’s Marketing Manager and a Marine, and received the update on the Harley community in the state. In quick secession, I met with Albuquerque Harley-Davidson and then met up with Edge, loaded his gear and set off for Santa Rosa.

After our tanks were topped off, we hit the road to Santa Rosa. It’s a city where the 1950s are still alive and well. Situated on old Route 66, the architecture, neon and friendly people harken back to a much simpler time. Santa-Rosa has 18 hotel/motels.

HQ for the rally is The Inn of the Mountain Gods, Resort & Casino. It’s situated high in the picturesque mountains of Mescalero, New Mexico, and sits next to a lake. It’s an Indian gaming casino owned by the Mescalero Apache tribe. The usual amenities are provided, with an addition of big game hunting with some of the finest elk, bear and turkey in North America.

In the end, our trip was successful. We made friends, secured firm dates and municipality support for the 2014 Chile Pepper Rally, and experienced some of the most unique and dramatic land that our United States has to offer. Put September 12-13, 2014 on your calendar so you can do the same when you come out for the Chile Pepper Rally.”

GOOD NEWS REGARDING THE RANGE ROVER INCIDENT: Tonight on the Diane Sawyer ABC News show they showed the Video of the man in the hospital.

There was also the comment that the police were going to further investigate the driver of the Land Rover.

The video clearly shows the Land Rover hitting one of the stopped motorcyclists.

What happens after that is not totally clear But it was indicated that the driver of the Land Rover tried to leave the scene and his tires were cut to try and stop him.

It then shows the Land Rover driving over other motorcycles and riders.

The Land Rover is now fleeing the scene of a collision. Motorcyclist chases him until he gets caught in traffic. One of the motorcyclist break the driver’s window with a helmet, (they are good for something) The driver is pulled from the vehicle and reported to be assaulted. Reports are that one of the motorcyclists was arrested and charged. Not sure of exactly for what at this time.

I should note there is no indication that anything was done towards the passengers in the vehicle.

This has come about because motorcycle riders objected to how the original story aired and that it did not have all of what happened. Now that this information has been brought out It Is A Whole Different Story.

The drive of the Land Rover Did Hit a Motorcyclist with his vehicle and did attempt to flee the scene. People tried to stop him and he ran over others and continued to flee.

The driver was removed from the vehicle to stop him from attempting to flee again. There may be some question on how much force was necessary to subdue him. No More Than What Law Enforcement Would Do I am Sure.

The person that was arrested for removing the driver will have his day in court to explain his actions But All Motorcyclists Must Demand The Driver Of The Land Rover Be Charged As Well.

They stopped at a cemetery but had nothing to wipe with. One used her panties; the other grabbed a wreath off a grave.

Motorcycle taxi riders blame ghosts for increase in accidents —
Boda boda riders in Ukunda town Kwale County, Kenya, are blaming ghosts on the increased number of road accidents in the coastal tourist town. In a meeting with Msambweni deputy commissioner Benjamin Leparmorija and police boss Jack Ekakoro, the riders said they could not explain how rampant traffic accidents have become, and blame the rising rate of road carnage on the supernatural. “We always observe traffic rules, which everyone, including the President, has been talking about, so we cannot really tell what is happening on our roads.

“To us, these are the ghosts. It must be ghosts causing these accidents and nothing else,” Stephene Oduor, one of the riders, said. His sentiments were supported by many riders who said they could not explain how some of the accidents happen. But their sentiments were, however, brushed aside by the county commissioner and the police boss who told the riders to repent if they felt ghosts were to blame. “There is nothing like that. If you believe accidents are caused by ghosts, then go to church, mosques or Kayas and get cleansed!” said Leparmorijo.

At the meeting, the riders also blamed ‘beauty’, especially among women, as the biggest hindrance towards enforcing the requirement that all riders wear helmets. “Some of them say they cannot wear the helmet as it will ruin their hair, which costs a lot of money to make and maintain in hair beauty salons,” added the rider. But Caro Karimi, who is a regular user of the motorcycle taxis said that some of the helmets have a bad odour, that they stink of stale sweat, and that she would rather use a minibus or walk rather than using the helmet if police enforced the rule.

The police, on the other hand, warned passengers that the rule on use of helmets is not negotiable. “A helmet can save your life in the event of an accident on a motorcycle or save you from life long brain damage. We will, therefore, arrest anyone found riding on a motorcycle without one. But we urge to riders to also maintain hygiene and keep the helmets clean so that the passengers are comfortable using them,” said the OCPD. Ukunda town, which is a tourist hub, is notorious for motorcycle accidents, with an average of two to three recorded daily.

HELMET LIGHTS–I came across your site and thought you might be interested in the response I got from the CHP or possibly even my product.

California Highway Patrol Response to Electroluminescent Helmet Kits

Outstanding news from the California Highway Patrol.

After a lengthy investigation the official word from the CHP is that lighting on the rider is not the same as on the vehicle and therefore not covered under the vehicle codes restricting add-on lighting.
This is a major win as I know a LOT of people were unsure about the legality of the kit.
Full text of the response below:

CHP Response to Electroluminescent Helmet Kits

Mr. Paul Schnieder,

Thank you for providing the information on your product and your inquiry as to its legality in California. As I mentioned on the phone, the lighting and equipment requirements are contained in Division 12 of the California Vehicle Code (CVC). Some of the lighting and equipment may be referred to and specifically detailed in the California Code of Regulations, Title 13. I’ll reference a few CVC sections here with the full text at the conclusion of my remarks.

Your product is certainly innovative. As I understand, it is designed to increase the visibility and ultimate safety of persons using motorcycles, bicycles and other modes of transportation that are less visible when on or near a highway. CVC Section 24001 applies Division 12 and 13 to all vehicles upon a highway. Throughout these sections, they refer to lighting and equipment mounted on a vehicle. CVC Section 25952 allows lighting to be mounted on a load as if it was part of the vehicle. CVC Section 24003 prohibits lighting on a vehicle unless it is specifically required or permitted.

The definition of a vehicle is a device which propels persons or property. So if we look at the required, permitted and prohibited lighting, it applies only to lighting equipment mounted on a vehicle, or on a load attached to a vehicle. A driver is not considered part of the vehicle, nor a load upon a vehicle. So in effect, a motorcycle driver or passenger could install lighting on their person or helmet without being in violation.

A bicycle is not considered a vehicle by definition and is not under the requirements of Division 12, but is regulated by CVC Section 21201. A bicyclist may then also install lighting on their person or helmet, as well as their bike, and not be in violation.

The one area users may be challenged on by officers in the field, might be with the use of the blue or red strip. Blue lights or red lights facing forward are reserved for Authorized Emergency Vehicles under CVC Sections, 25258, 21201.3, and 25252. Another, is CVC Section 25950 which regulates the colors of lights, but again upon a vehicle.

In my professional opinion, the product described to us on August 27, 2013, from elhelmet.com, and Kickstarter electroluminescent helmet kit, is not regulated by the California Vehicle Code and therefore allowed for use on the highways. It would also not required testing under CVC Sections 26101, 26104.

I hope this answers your questions sufficiently. If you need further, please contact me. My information is in the signature block.

–Officer Eli Thompson

Introduction to Killing Machine Choppers.

Like many other builders, Algie started Killing Machine Choppers in a shed on the back of his property in Lake Elsinore, California at the foot of the beautiful Ortega Mountains in Riverside County, California.    Not only was he revitalizing “The Duke”, he was spending quality time with his young son Breeze and the other boys that would gather around to help.   Algie was giving back to these kids, the same way his mentors did when he was living on the streets of Rockford.  Trying to keep them on the straight and narrow and interested in learning a trade and completing a project.

Email correspondence from Allan Karl to Mistress Chris:

Chris —

Wow. I’m blown away by the work you did on this and sharing my message and Kickstarter project to Bikernet fans, followers and friends. I’m going to go over there and check all these out now!!!!

I love that you shared it with the x-rated paid content area, that’s awesome! You are incredibly sweet and I’m grateful and honored you have put this in so many places.

I know that many Bikernet followers will find interest in my project and pledge to support my crowsfunding (Kickstarter) campaign.

I will tweet and share and post on my Facebook (554 followers, not as much as you 😉 and to Twitter – I have more than 3,000 there 🙂 and send people your way too!

This just made my day and I thank you so much. Have you seen the Kickstarter page recently? Do you know much about Kickstarter? It’s important that I reach my set goal of $22k (which actually Kickstarter doesn’t refer to those who pledge as sponsors they call them backers, which is same thing anyway but I thought that’s a cool word) anyway, if I don’t hit the goal, none of the backers actually gets charged, nor would they get a book or whatever they pledged/backed for. so I’ve been very nervous and yesterday and today we’ve seen great response, maybe some from Bikernet.com I will let you know when I check. I was also on Bike Week Radio Show this morning, that was fun.

I hope you liked my story and thank you for posting it. Very cool!

I’m going to read all the stuff now and send an email to all the backers that already pledged and pre-ordered books and share your links (except paid version) with them!

Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

–Allan

AUSTRALIAN CLUB ISSUES–New club said to be looking at Queensland’s Gold Coast.

A member of a US-based motorcycle club is said by police to be eyeing off new territory for the club on the Gold Coast of Australia.
.
The newest club vying for a slice of the party strip is the Southern California-based Mongols, said to be sworn international enemies of the Hells Angels.

The patched member from the Mongols’ France-based chapter has moved to the Gold Coast and has allegedly aligned himself with the Finks, local media has been told.

The Mongols member, who also has links to Germany, has been meeting with associates in Sydney and is understood to be in talks with southern chapters about establishing an operation on the Gold Coast.

The Mongols claim to have existing chapters in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney’s North Shore and the New South Wales central coast.

Nine outlaw clubs are now based along the length of the Gold Coast’s ‘Glitter Strip’.

The news comes just days after a violent brawl involving Bandidos members outside a Broadbeach restaurant.

And on Monday the state government revealed plans for tough new anti-criminal gang laws.

The tighter controls on bikers follows three decades of inquiries into police, corruption allegations, and organized crime on the Gold Coast.

The Mongols club, which began in Southern California in 1969 and now operates in 14 US states and 13 countries, has reportedly established a temporary base at Carrara.

Money is behind motorcycle clubs attraction to the Gold Coast, University of Queensland organized crime expert Dr. Andreas Schloenhardt said on Monday.

“The problem is not new at all,” he said.

“There is a substantial drug market on the Gold Coast and a big consumer population consisting of both locals and tourists.

“As a holiday destination and party capital, it is not unsurprising that many drugs are in high demand.”

Just how much of the conflict is directly or indirectly linked to illicit drugs is anyone’s guess, Dr Schloenhardt said.

“Some of the violence may be just rivalry, revenge, and emotive.”

Dr Schloenhardt said the Gold Coast’s transient population and lateral geography had enabled clubs to gain a strong foothold in the region.

“Policing is also somewhat decentralized,” he said.

“Some of the enforcement problems seem to stem from the fact that the greater Gold Coast area is not one homogenous city with one center, but just a very large number of suburbs.”

Although a September 2010 Crime and Misconduct Commission public hearing was told Gold Coast nightclubs were forced to pay extortion, there was no evidence of this from the Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce.

Meanwhile more than 1065 inspections of God Coast licensed clubs have been run in the past three years.

Gold Coast police have championed their efforts to stamp out biker-related crime – more than 400 bikers and their associates have been nabbed on almost 1100 charges including murder, assault and weapons possession since January last year.

Investigators maintain public brawls, including that between Finks and Nomads members which occurred outside a Coolangatta restaurant during the annual Cooly Rocks On festival in June this year, have been entirely self-motivated, simply “flare-ups between hot-headed individuals”, as described by one police officer.

“There are, perhaps, more players on the scene and the growing population and the size of the markets attracts more people who want to try their luck [on the Gold Coast],” Dr Schloenhardt said.

“Many of them may operate as gangs, including bikers, but many operate as individuals or loose networks, that remain much less visible.”

IRONWORKS ATTACKS DEPARTURE BIKEWORKS–IW’s Editor (and social butterfly) Marilyn Stemp recently stopped in at Departure Bike Works on her trip to New York for the Indian Larry and wanted to pass a long this note to all of you:

“I stopped in to visit Lee and Brenda Clemens at Departure Bike Works on the way through Richmond, VA last week. I was a week early for their open house (and Lee’s birthday party) but that allowed me to get behind the scenes before the crowd got there. There were all sorts of projects on lifts – these pictures hint at a few of the new builds from Departure’s ace mechanic Andrew.

Just hanging around the shop for a while and watching Lee manage the various queries and questions from customers who wander in gives you a brief glance at the tons of institutional knowledge rattling around in his brain. Lee fields questions without ever looking up a thing – it’s all cataloged in his mind and delivered in an easygoing, helpful manner. Years of racing and wrenching matter! It’s clear: Departure is a solid resource to bikers in this area and has been for decades.

Lee and Brenda told me about a recent ride they took up route 9 through Hyde Park to the AMCA Rhinebeck meet, also visiting Newburgh, New York’s Motorcyclepedia Museum. They highly recommended the Museum. As it happens, OCC is also in that area, too. (Hi Skeeter!)

Their fall open house happens this Saturday, October 5th, preceded by an S&S Performance Seminar the day before. Stop in for a great day of food and fun. And buy something while you’re there – we want this gem of bikerdom to stay vibrant!”

Yes indeed, everyone should get out and support your local motorcycle shop and help keep these little gems in business. Departure Bike Works’ 41st Anniversary Celebration (and Lee’s birthday) will be this Saturday – October 5th 2013 at the shop at 5216 Hull Street, Richmond, Virginia.

ZIPPER’S SPEED DEMON DEAL OF THE WEEK–Human nature dictates that when we decide what we want, we want it now!– Zipper’s Twin Cam 95-inch and 103-inch cylinder exchange program reduces downtime – no waiting to have your cylinders sized because we have TC cylinders fitted and ready to ship.

Factory cylinders are bored to 3-7/8-inch (95-inch for TC88 engines, 103-inch for TC96) and precision honed on torque plates using our state-of-the-art CNC hone performed by Zipper’s skilled craftsmen.

Forged Wiseco pistons with moly-coated skirts in three different dome configurations allow you to choose the correct compression for your application. Cylinder kits include rings, pins, clips and a complete top end and cam change gasket set. Just carefully pack up your stock, unmodified TC cylinders and send them to us for same day turnaround.

New – Due to the high temperature ranges that Twin Cam engines operate in, Zipper’s has noticed irregularities on the head gasket sealing area of the cylinder casting. Once used, the aluminum cylinder’s shape is distorted by high operating temperatures. This creates two irregularities in the head gasket surface as the aluminum collapses: (photo 1) high and low spots in the gasket surface, and (photo 2) a mismatch at the junction between the cast iron cylinder liner and the aluminum cast around it. Through these heating and cooling cycles, the cylinder is stress relieved and reaches a stability that is much less affected by future heat cycles – but the resulting surface irregularities remain until corrected. This can cause a premature head gasket failure including internal and/or external oil leaks on your fresh rebuild.

Decking the top surface of the cylinder is the best solution to assure proper sealing for best performance. The dowels are removed, an expanding mandrel in inserted in the cylinder bore (ensuring perpendicularity of the gasket surface) and the cylinder tops are machined perfectly flat and square in a lathe to provide proper sealing of the head gasket.

Exchange parts must be in acceptable cosmetic condition. Expect the same from us.

DC REPORT DIRECT FROM THE MRF–
I thought I would give you an update on what’s happening in DC. The govt. remains shutdown with no real end in sight. I think it’s likely to run through the 16th of this month. The Senator my wife works for thinks it will be over before the weekend is over.

The House and Senate are working (turn on Cspan for some epic partisan rhetoric). Most staff is not working, only a bare bones network of essential hill staff remain.

The Petri letter has obviously been put on hold. Staff that are not deemed essential are forbidden from working or answering email. This is exactly what I have been talking about for the past few years. Congress and the Whitehouse are broken. Its a sad state when it comes to a govt shutdown.

However with every cloud comes a silver lining. Just 6% of all EPA employees are working!

I’ll keep you posted on this situation.

GARAGE LEATHERS SPANKS THE COLD AND RELOCATES TO NASHVILLE, TN–
Garage Leathers, the solo bag manufacturer for Harley-Davidson Softails, Dynas, Sportsters, custom motorcycles and choppers, reports today that they have relocated to the Historic Marathon Village area of Nashville, Tennessee, from Midland Park, New Jersey.

The firm’s strategic plan is to consolidate the operations of Garage Leathers with their sister company Garage Coffee to enhance sales and improve operational efficiencies. Garage Coffee, a wholesale and retail firm, plans to entrench itself in Nashville and roll out moto-centric coffee shops that serve as showcases of the Garage Leathers’ product line.

“Our current location is the perfect epicenter for our firm. Nashville provides high-volume traffic for our Garage Coffee’s retail shop and excellent creative knowledge-workers for our Garage Leathers’ business,” explained Robert Camardo, the head honcho and moving force behind Garage Leathers. “Relocating to the sunbelt in general, and Nashville in particular, provides the firms with greater opportunities to grow and increase market share.”

Nashville is ranked as a top 10th best place to live and work, with access to over 50% of the US population within a one-day drive, one of the lowest cost-of-living rates in the U.S., an outstanding music scene and an average high year-round temperature of 70 degrees.

“As we move into the 4th quarter of 2013, expect to see new leather products from the firm as well as cross-promotions between leather and coffee,” said Camardo. “Business is tough, but with the right promotional partners we expect significant growth over the next three years.”

Garage Leathers, www.garageleathers.com, is located at 1200 Clinton Street, Suite XXX, Nashville, Tennessee 37203, garageleathers@gmail.com, (888) 917-6789.

UNCLE MONKEY GOES FOR THE VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPHY–I love looking at old photographs. I won’t say it was a simpler time but it was a different life. Smiling faces from the past, you wonder who the people are. Was this an important day. Were they gathering to celebrate life and love, someone’s birthday, wedding, graduation. Was it a sombre day filled with heartache, a forced smile for the future or was it to hint at that this too will pass?

Many pictures of family, friends standing in front of cars, trucks and motorcycles and tractors. Young children forced to stand proper optimistically looking forward to a future a day when this one would feel like a century ago if it were yesterday.

There are pretty young girls, rosy blushes on their cheeks even in the fading black and white photos. Someone coming courting? A time before she was a wife, a mother, a grandmother. A time when she held someone new to the world in her delicate hands. How many hearts did she break before someone swept her away?

There are the races. Creased and folded. Faded from an image the dust and smoke. Small town excitement. Dare devils, reckless, careless, and restless for the adrenaline they craved. They captured the roar of the engines, and the roar of the crowds. Wood, dirt, asphalt, unforgiving barriers are seen. Man and machine, slight of hand, cheaters, and champions pushing the sport, and pushing the competitors. Tomorrow would be work but for that brief snapshot it was only the rush of speed and a pounding heart. What could be better?

ANOTHER DEAL OF THE WEEK FROM ATK–These motorcycles are all about attracting new, younger and first time riders to the wonderful world of Motorcycling as you noted in a good article you posted a while back on Bikernet.

We have 10 Brand New 2011 GV250 left in stock at $2,995. We sold a 100 to a States Motorcycle Training Program and we had to retain 10 for two years. Two years is up and we want to move these quickly.

These bike are brand new, however, they have a Utah Title. No worries for California buyers, these are CARB Approved (Executive Order M-187-0001)

Check out Alicia on nationwide TV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmh9sIsWfnQ

ATK has been manufacturing off-road motorcycles since 1984 and has recently hit the asphalt in offering affordable entry level street motorcycles.

ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN CLUB SCARE–Aussie anti biker journo makes patch-over claim.

A well known female anti-biker journalist with a long history of targeting the Finks motorcycle club has published a claim that the club has brokered a deal with the US based Mongols to patch over and join the international organisation.

She says at least 90 per cent of the Finks nationwide will patch over and join with the Mongols to become “arguably the most powerful outlaw gang in the country”.

Brokered in the past week, the deal includes the Finks handing in their club support gear and erasing or disguising club tattoos as they wait for official Mongol colours to arrive.

She claims the patch over of almost the entire club is believed to be largest ever seen in Australia and will see the Mongols become a major outlaw force of more than 400 members.

The woman says the move will realise the Finks goal to go global, giving them “respect” and a voice on the international stage.

According to their website, the Mongols have chapters in the US, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Thailand, Germany, Malaysia, France and Israel.

The story ends stating senior Finks have not ordered members to join the US club, leaving the decision to individual members.

The authenticity of the above story remains to be verified.

WHAT THE HELL?—While Marilyn works the crowds in Las Vegas and picks an editor’s choice bike for Bikernet we need to feature some editor’s choice winners from the past including Asian Dan from Daytona, next week.

We are working with Killing Machine on a couple of features, then Eric Bennett on his final tech Dyna Build before we feature the bike. This puppy will cover inner primary bearings from JIMS, Rivera Clutch and more.

Then I will cough up the Rivera headlight tech. It also contains LED turnsignals.

We are working with our art student on our Trike project concept drawings and he came up with another batch of sketches.
