TERROR TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY NEWS FOR Thursday May 29, 2014

Hey,

I have a major bitch about seemingly ridiculous shit. Two things: Any rolling appliance not capable of rolling over its own cord should be shot. And what about beds. They put the casters on the corners so you can kick them with bare feet in the middle of the night.

I’ve wrapped the bastards with chunks of carpeting, but it’s bullshit. A wise manufacturer could measure the length of the crest of your foot and move the casters inboard so this wouldn’t happen. Give me a fuckin’ break.

And how’s this for a sign of the times. Since 2008 kids from 18-29 quit investing in the stock market. I don’t blame them, but here’s the quirk according to The Week Magazine. They said, “Twenty somethings with more than $50,000 in investable assets reported keeping more than half of their funds in cash.” –Bloomberg.com.

Cash doesn’t work for the owner, in fact it drops in value every year. Unless, you use it for a deal on an antique car, motorcycle, or art it’s slipping away. Collectibles seem to do better than almost any investment today.

Let’s hit the news:

EXCLUSIVE! NEW BIKES FROM BRASS BALLS CYCLES–Stoked about this bike. It’s the most incredible riders bike we’ve ever created… And the first person I’ve given photos to is BIKERNET.

By the way, I know there is no chain guard on it. We fabricated one from aluminum, then took it off to use it for making a mold to make one from carbon fiber.

Here is our latest Brawler GT that we have just finished this week.

It has an S&S EFI, T-series (they can’t say twin cam for copyright legal reasons) 111″ motor. Mated to a 6 Rivera Primo FL style tranny with Oil pan underneath. Has a Delkron inner primary and Barnetts Scorpion billet outer primary. D&D 2 into 1 with carbon fiber canister exhaust. Oh, and one of the new S&S Air 1 air cleaners.

Some more featured components incorporated into the Brawler GT:

Ohlin’s front and rear suspension with our own custom designed & machined fork clamps, with the top clamp housing our Chronoclassic analog tach/digital speedo.

Dual Brembo radial calipers with EBC floating rotors.

BST carbon fiber wheels with Avon 3D-XM Storm tires.

Carbon fiber front fender.

It has our Brass Balls Performance LED headlight up front and rear LED signal lights incorporated into the chassis.

Custom fabricated in house: fuel tank, rear cowling and side panels.

ISR adjustable hand controls with our new Brass Balls Performance leather wrapped billet grips.

Motion pro cables.

Oh, and we have a new relationship with Drive Oils (formerly Joe Gibbs Racing oils). We will be loading this bike with Driven’s amazing performance oils.

This one is going to our dealer in Shanghai… yes, we are exporting American Motorcycles to China.

BIKERNET CODE OF THE WEST WARNINGS–

No one is listening until you fart.

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

A professor at the Auburn University was giving a lecture on Paranormal Studies. To get a feel for his audience, he asks, ‘How many people here believe in ghosts?’ About 90 students raise their hands. Well, that’s a good start. Out of those who believe in ghosts, do any of you think you have seen a ghost?’ About 40 students raise their hands.

That’s really good. I’m really glad you take this seriously. Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost?’ About 15 students raise their hand. Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?’ Three students raise their hands.

That’s fantastic. Now let me ask you one question further…Have any of you ever made love to a ghost?’ Way in the back, Ahmed raises his hand. The professor takes off his glasses and says ‘Son, all the years I’ve been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have made love to a ghost. You’ve got to come up here and tell us about your experience.’

The Middle Eastern student replied with a nod and a grin, and began to make his way up to the podium. When he reached the front of the room, the professor asks, ‘So, Ahmed, tell us what it’s like to have sex with a ghost?’

Ahmed replied, “Shit, from way back there I thought you said Goats.”

AUSSIE STATE MAY CHANGE SOME ROAD RULES FOR BIKES–
Riders who weave between cars in traffic jams could soon be on the right side of the law, with Queensland considering a swag of changes to traffic rules.

In a discussion paper to be released today, the government will ask for opinions on whether or not it is a good idea.

The behavior – known as “lane filtering” – is legal, changing lanes without indicating is not.

Queensland Transport minister Scott Emerson said the state could join New South Wales, which was already preparing to formally legalize the weaving or filtering.

“It could ease traffic congestion and make the rules clearer for all road users,” Mr Emerson said.

The paper will also consider the way riders sit on their bike, including the law that forces them to keep their feet on the pegs.

“While the intention of the rule was to prevent reckless and dangerous behavior, it doesn’t take into account the everyday practicalities of riding a motorcycle,” he said.

“By broadening the rules, it will mean a rider can remove their feet to reverse park, or take their hands off the handlebars to adjust their visor and not be in breach of the law.”

In January, a Brisbane rider was fined $146 for not having both feet on the footrests – the rider claimed he was just stretching his leg.

Police Commissioner Ian Stewart later admitted he too stretched his legs while riding

SALUTE A VET, RIDE A HARLEY– Have you ever heard of veteran motorcycle clubs? Many Americans are unaware of the humble and heroic veteran riders who run motorcycle clubs all across the country. Without fanfare or recognition, they organize annual rides to raise money for fallen heroes; build websites and design and sell patches to remember their deceased brothers and sisters; and hold social events to support returning troops and their families.

Some veteran motorcycle clubs are specifically dedicated to serving Marine vets; combat vets, POWs/MIAs, or Navy submarine vets while many other motorcycle clubs honor and serve all veterans, from every branch of the military.
Not every veteran biker rides a Harley, but Harley-Davidson has consistently supported veterans, personal freedom and the American Dream.

Harley-Davidson also introduced many vets to the joy and freedom of biking. Harley produced the Harley-Davidson WLA dispatch-rider model for our troops during World War II. Motorcycles surged in demand when the war ended as veterans sought bikes similar to those they had used during service.

This Memorial Day, veteran-run motorcycle clubs offer a ray of hope and optimism in the face of troubling reports of the current administration’s abuse and neglect of veterans. There is an investigation into whether 40 veterans died due to unethical Veterans Administration staff practices; veterans have been denied access to the Washington, D.C. memorials that were built to honor them; and the latest report from the Department of Veterans Affairs shows that approximately 22 veterans commit suicide daily.

As a Millennial, it is humbling and inspiring to witness veterans of preceding generations—who have already given many years of service to our country—using their bikes to serve the next generation of Millennial vets. Young vets are coming home after repeat deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq with missing limbs and the battle scar of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Syndrome—and seasoned vets on motorcycles are greeting them with support, even if their commander-in-chief is not.

Rain or shine, today’s veteran riders “ride on” and continually find ways to serve. During the winter months, Marine Riders organize “Toys for Tots” drives and many other veteran motorcycle clubs place Christmas wreaths on the tombs of their fallen brothers and sisters at Arlington Cemetery and cemeteries across the nation. Meanwhile, members of the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club in Jensen Beach, Florida—where the sun shines year round—turn themselves into virtual biking Santas with their annual “Toy Run.”

Last week, thousands of veteran bikers traversed from the West Coast to the East Coast in rides to honor veterans, veteran families and POWs/MIAs—such as the “Carry the Flame Across America Tour,” the “Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom,” and the “Run for the Wall.”

Please consider supporting motorcycle clubs and their fundraiser rides. Many clubs have websites where they accept donations for veterans. Even if you are not a veteran or do not own a motorcycle, you can often join in solidarity on any given ride by taking the same path that the bikers take in your car.

Below is a sampling of five upcoming veteran motorcycle club events for you to check out.

Veteran riders: please post a comment beneath this article if you are member of a veteran motorcycle club that is hosting a ride this summer so TheBlaze readers can learn about your event!

Ohio: U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club of Fairborn Ohio will host the 2nd Annual “Fallen Hero Poker Run” on July 26, 2014 in honor of Army Specialist Jesse A. Snow (KIA) who died in the Watapur district of Afghanistan on Nov. 14, 2010 while serving in the 101st Airport Division (Air Assault). Snow was posthumously honored with a Silver Star for heroically saving the lives of three fellow servicemen before insurgents killed him.

Kentucky: U.S. Marine Riders host many events, including one bringing awareness to a living American Prisoner of War, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan in June of 2009 through the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Rally on June 29, 2014.

Massachusetts: Support Our Soldiers hosts a motorcycle ride, concert and pig roast on July 5, 2014.

Pennsylvania: A Pennsylvania Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association club will host the 11th Annual Homeless Veterans Memorial Ride on July 12, 2014.

Illinois: Purple Heart Riders will co-host their 4th Annual Motorcycle Charity Run on July 12, 2014 to help veterans recover from PTSD, depression and drug addiction.

Thank you to all of our veterans for serving our country. We appreciate your sacrifice and are humbled by your ongoing patriotism and generosity. Ride on!

MORE ON MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT REPORTING–“If the trend set in recent weeks continues, there may be an increase in deaths during this warmer, drier spring,” I don’t know where this washington post reporter lives but we had DC’s 10th largest snowfall ever on March 17th, and we had flurries and freezing rain for a good part of April in my downtown DC neighborhood. There is always a story like this in the post around rolling thunder weekend with a bunch of bogus numbers.

AMERICAN ROAD RACER JEREMY TOYE TO COMPETE IN THE 2014 PIKES PEAK HILL CLIMB ON A KAWASAKI NINJA ZX-10R–
One of America’s top road racers aims to conquer Pikes Peak with his rookie attempt at the world’s most famous hill climb.

Jeremy Toye from San Diego, California is no rookie to professional road racing. His accomplishments include setting the fastest lap for a newcomer at the Isle of Man TT in 2006, a third place at the Macau GP, and multiple top-five finishes in AMA Pro Racing competition.

Race veteran Toye will compete in the Open Class Division on a World Superbike Championship-winning Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, which will be modified to meet the extreme demands of racing a 12.42-mile course ending at the mountain-top finish.

Jeremy isn’t simply hoping to finish; he has his eye set on beating the outright Pikes Peak motorcycle record, which was set by Carlin Dunne in 2012 with a time of 9:52.819.

Additionally, Daniel Fernández from Medellin, Colombia will be competing on a Kawasaki Versys 1000. Daniel will go down in history as the first Colombian rider to race this prestigious event.

Kawasaki representatives, along with Jeremy Toye and his ZX-10R will be on-hand to celebrate the Ninja’s 30th Anniversary in downtown Colorado Springs at the Pikes Peak Fan Fest on Friday, June 27th. The flag then drops for racing on Sunday, June 29th at 8:00am.

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is North America’s second-oldest motorsports event behind the Indianapolis 500. The hill climb is the ultimate test of man and machine, since no other course in the world offers the challenge of 156 complex hairpin turns during the nearly 5,000 ft ascent to the mountain’s 14,110 ft. summit amid some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery.

You may follow Jeremy’s test sessions and receive live race results for the 92nd running of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb at www.ppihc.com. Updates will also be streamed via http://twitter.com/KawasakiOnline and http://www.facebook.com/kawasaki. For information on Colombian rider Daniel Fernández go to www.versyschallenge.com.

Custom Cycle Control Systems Offers Lifetime Warranty on the New Improved Simplified Air Suspension/SAS–Custom Cycle Control Systems announced today a new lifetime warranty on all of the machined parts as well as a 3 year “all encompassing” warranty on their new SAS air suspension. If ANYTHING happens to your SAS the first 3 years, take it off and send it back to CCCS (it only take a few minutes), You’ll receive a reconditioned or new unit…no questions asked…and there’s no wait!

Raise and lower your rear end at the touch of a button. Add air pressure to improve ride quality during changing road conditions or while hauling added weight.

Also improving the ride quality is a “pre-set factory” dampening valve. At approximately 150 psi, the bike will be fully raised and the suspension will be resting on its piston bumpers at *maximum ride height*. After that your height will not change, but you can continue to increase air pressure for improved riding during cornering or with a passenger.

The SAS is super easy to install and comes complete with mounting instructions. There’s no compressor to mount, no pressure hoses to run, no fittings to fail…All you have to do is replace your old shocks with a new SAS unit and wire an on/off switch directly to the battery.

The biggest advantage to the SAS vs. “old style” compressor suspension units is that there are no hoses to run…Hoses that after a while get invisible pin holes causing your suspension to leak. It may be hours or days to track down one of these pin holes, but you’ll never have that problem with CCCS’ new SAS System.

You won’t have to remove your EPA canisters to make room for an ugly compressor so you’ll always be legal. Fits all Softail Harley-Davidson’s, as well as custom production bikes. Its water-resistant design is perfect for those inclement weather rides and they are manufactured right here in the USA.

MSRP-$1,395.00

For those interested in obtaining more information on Custom Cycle Control Systems new SAS system, you can reach them at 866-438-2129, or 702-438-2129. Check them out online at www.customcyclecontrols.com or email them at lyaple@customcyclecontrols.com.

When building this show winning ground up custom bike I sourced the very best parts on the market. Naturally that included the Simplified Air Suspension from Custom Cycle Controls as this system rocks!

Being able to slam the bike to the ground at shows, but then at the touch of a button pump it up again, is totally cool. The installation couldn’t be simpler and the unit itself seems bullet proof. Highly recommended.

Cheers, Doc

BIKER BUILD-OFF ACTION–Raw Iron Choppers will be on a new DISCOVERY CHANNEL show called #BIKERLIVE next Monday at 10pm/9pm central for the (Rust belt episode). Please forward this email to all of your contacts and if you would also be so kind to share the attached flyer for our Raw Iron-Unveil Bash that will be on June 14th at Zeppes Tavern on all of your social media pages such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to help spread the word; I’d greatly appreciate it and all of you are welcome to join.

-Here’s a clip of the #Bikerlive commercial that is on all this week as well:

SHOW INFO:

When: June 2nd at 10pm eastern/9pm central (show has changed times, so keep a look out with any DVR or TV guide scheduling in case it changes back to 9pm eastern)

How it all started: Earlier this year we were asked to be a part of this new series which began airing May 12th on Discovery Channel, called #BikerLive. We started filming in the beginning of March and had only 5 weeks to build a ground up custom motorcycle.

When I say ground up, I really mean we started with straight sections of DOM tubing and flat sheets of 18 gauge sheet metal as we typical do here at Raw Iron; our end result was a beautiful crafted fire breathing motorcycle.

This project was a “shoot from the hip” style of build with no prior designs, parts, or build style in mind…with little time to prepare and 36-55 hour multiple-days without sleep, we pulled it off and we’re extremely happy with the outcome of our build.

I had a ton of help from my supporters/sponsors as well as my closest friends that joined in, we could have not made this happen without everyone’s input.

“I did not do this show to promote just myself/RIC or enforce the stereotypical rock star bike builder stigma…I wanted to build a bike to hopefully motivate and inspire the public of all ages to get out there and start welding, machining, or just get involved in something that has positive benefits surrounding the blue collar industries. That’s how it started for me 10 years ago, from watching all the Motorcycle Mania and Biker build off shows.”

MOTIVATE, CREATE, & INSPIRE!

Your vote counts: Votes are determined by via Twitter, you must tweet: #bikerliverawiron during the show to cast your vote. You can vote as many times as you’d like. If you don’t have a twitter, you can sign up for one just like any other social media sites and if you don’t want to keep it, just delete it after the airing of the show.

JUNE 14TH (Raw Iron Choppers-Unveil Bash) will be held at Zeppes Tavern in Newbury, Ohio from 1pm till close on Saturday June 14th. We will be unveiling the “Raw Iron Special” bike on site, assortment of vendors, custom bikes and hot rods (bring your one of a kind ride up to the event), live music, food & drinks, and tons of awesome giveaway items from our generous sponsors. This is a public event, so everyone is welcome to join us.

“I want to thank each and every one of you who’ve supported me from the start or along my journey through the years. It’s been a blast and to have Raw Iron go from a hobby ten years ago, to a full on service shop, licensed motorcycle manufacturer, and precision welding shop was beyond what I had ever dreamed. My hat is off to you all, with much appreciation!”

Many thanks,

S&S Cycle Will Sponsor the 2014 WMDRA Sturgis Races–S&S Cycle is proud to announce that they have signed on to be an Associate Sponsor of the 2014 Western Motorcycle Drag Race Association’s AMSOIL Sturgis Nationals at the Sturgis Dragway in Sturgis, South Dakota, August 5th and 6th. This race event is always a major attraction during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

“Drag racing has always been a major factor in the history of S&S Cycle. Drag racing is what got George J. Smith, our company founder, interested in developing go fast parts for Harley-Davidson® motorcycles in the first place,” says S&S Racing Manager Justin Bramstedt. Justin went on to say, “We think it’s important that S&S should promote drag racing both on the professional and grass roots levels.”

In addition to the races, S&S will once again be holding the T124 Demo Days event from 10:00 am to noon on both days of the race event. Here’s your chance to see what it’s like to run one of our big motors down the drag strip!

“We’re excited to welcome S&S Cycle as an Associate Sponsor of the 2014 Sturgis Nationals and thrilled to have them join us out at the drag strip again this year for the T124 Demo Days,” says WMDRA President Sandra Alberti.

Sturgis Dragway is THE place to be during the 74th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and is located only about four miles from downtown at 20523 Hwy 79, just off Hwy 34 between the Full Throttle Saloon and Buffalo Chip Campground. Demo rides are scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to noon and racing kicks off at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 5 and 6, 2014.

BRAND New Bikernet Reader Comment!– THE BORN INDIAN FANATIC

http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=11169

I serve as the Special Interest Group Leader for the Indian Silver Arrow outboard motor on behalf of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, Inc.

I enjoyed this article, especially the portion on the rare outboard motors. I know that you cannot divulge an email address for Bob Clift; however, I would appreciate it if you could ask him to consider contacting me.

I have been researching documentation on the outboard motors since 1999 when I purchased my first one.

I now own three. I would love to have an opportunity to discuss his two Indians, one a 1930 model and the other a 1931 model.

I can also assist in finding parts for their restoration if he is interested. Thank you for your consideration. I hope to hear back from you soon.

THE DEVIL’S PROJECT FOR THE WEEK–Thought I’d share a shot of this little hot rod project I am working on right now, she is just making her way into the body shop. .

The original wide tire set up had an extended sprocket without an outboard support so it pushed the gears out of the back side of the tranny case so I ended up sawing it off . . . did a little clean up work and molested the rockers a little before sending the parts out for machining.

Her intended use is to be a “rough playmate” so we’ll be doing some extra work on the engine and running a special order RSD from Baker. . . because I am building motorplates and using a 2-inch open belt. I lifted the tranny plate so the mainshaft is in line in between the rear axel and engine mainshaft, more like a top fuel dragster frame. . . Not that it will see that kind of pressure, but I figured it sure can’t hurt if you really want something to thrash on, ha ha!

Because the neck is a bit smoother than the big twins I used some Panhead style axel adjusters. backwards to match a little better.

Cosmetically she is being dressed up to match a Harley addition Ford truck that the client drives, all Black on Black with red flames.

Speaking of black . . . .not too bad for a welder stuck in a paint booth, eh? hehe!

SOLD — TRAILER DEAL OF THE WEEK– SOLD
As you probably know, Harry passed away in March this year. Marty (our son) and I are trying to liquidate Harry’s trucking equipment to pay off some bills.

We’ve already sold the truck but still have his 53′
show trailer to sell. This is the trailer that is specifically set up to transport and display motorcycles. It’s the one that was used for the
Custom Cruiser Tour when John Hoover was there. It has a ton of extra equipment just for this purpose.

The price is very reasonable considering everything that’s included. To set up a trailer like this would cost a person the basic freight trailer plus an additional $40,000-$60,000.

The trailer is in excellent condition – just needs a little touch-up black paint in spots, but everything else is good.

Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.

What the hell is with these television ‘motorcycle club members” riding in them?
Come on…at 60 I just have a tough time with the whole sneaker thing, in general. What the hell is with these television “motorcycle club members” riding  in them? White sneakers, no less. When I got into this whole bike thing it was BOOTS ONLY! We did not wear wingtips, oxfords, sandals, “Flip Flops”, high heels, flats, pumps, Penny Loafers, and certainly NOT sneakers when we rode. We wore manly footwear. And it was NEVER WHITE! Never, ever!

WORLD’S FASTEST HARLEYS THIS WEEK AT ROCKINGHAM DRAGWAY THE HOME OF THE SMOKEOUT–ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – The world’s quickest and fastest Harley-Davidson motorcycles, including the national record-holding Top Fuel bike of Harley legend Ray Price, descend on Rockingham Dragway this weekend for the American Motorcycle Racing Association’s All-Harley Nitro Nationals.

An international lineup of bikes and riders is expected to contest the Top Fuel title insomuch as this will be the 2014 AMRA debut for the nitromethane-burners. Neither Top Fuel nor Funny Bike was contested at Baton Rouge, La., or Bowling Green, Ky., in the season’s first two events.
As a result, extra attention will be focused on Steve Earwood’s high traction quarter mile, the track on which Tommy Grimes of Clemmons, N.C., drove Price’s Raleigh-based Harley to an AMRA record 6.197 seconds at a finish line speed of 227.96 miles per hour en route to victory last October in the Jim McClure Nitro Classic.

The first AMRA Top Fuel rider to break the 6.20 barrier, Grimes is expected to have lots of company this week. Among those expected to challenge him and the record book are former IHRA World Champion and Rockingham winner Jay Turner of Julian, N.C., current IHRA Nitro Jam point leader Mark Cox of Wilkesboro, N.C., and his Bojangles-sponsored Harley and 2013 AMRA champion Randal Andras of Amelia, La.

Rockingham regular Mike Scott of Blind Bay, British Columbia, Canada, who rode Turner’s second bike to runner-up honors last fall and to a victory in last month’s Nitro Jam Spring Nationals, also is expected to contest the title.

Andras will be one of several riders trying to double-up. In addition to his Top Fuel bike, the Louisiana rider also is expected to compete in Funny Bike astride the Harley on which he won last fall.

Among the contenders in Pro Fuel will be Johnny Vickers of Millers Creek, N.C., the national record holder, current point leader Rebel Glover of Holly Hill, Fla., and Rocky Jackson of Youngsville, La., last fall’s Rockingham winner.
The three-day event begins Friday with a 3-8 p.m. test session and continues with time trials and qualifying at 10 a.m. Saturday and single elimination finals beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Adult admission is $45 for all three days, $35 for a Saturday-Sunday combo or $20 daily at the gate. Saturday admission includes access to the traditional Harley music concert that follows qualifying. Parking is free in Rockingham’s main lot.

THE S&S STORY CONTINUES– S&S Cycle presents the second episode of the S&S Proven Performance video series – Don’t Settle For Stock. In the first episode we witnessed life in the “Stockyard” – dull, monotonous, and stifling, with a repressive regime imposing its will on those who want to go beyond a ‘stock’ existence. We also saw a man who has chosen not to settle.

In this second video, he finds out that he is not alone, and he begins to put his choice into action. With the help of other like-minded independent individuals, will he be able to break free, or will he be discovered by the Stock Corps and its P.I.G., the enforcers of the four tenets of conformity?

UNCLE MONKEY DISCUSSES WHEN TO RIDE AND WHEN NOT TO RIDE–That special time of day when the sun rides as low in the saddle as we do. The Golden Hour just before sunset, just before the sun gets so low that it blinds you to oncoming traffic. The air is crisp but not yet cold.

Darkness starts to creep across the countryside mixing in with the shadows. The wind as calm in the evening air as our soul is. We weave in and out of traffic content with the ride, not the speed.

It’s been a good day riding. Miles and smiles. A few more miles until we tie a bow on the day – maybe with the ribbon from a pretty girl’s hair. Life is full and complete, unhindered by the outside world.

We live within, within nature, within life.
Our restless soul, restless mind is soothed by the road. Life shifting from day to night. The last few hours for the day walkers, the first few hours for the night stalkers. Bike and machine as one. Soon we will settle in for the night with a good drink, with a fine woman by our side. It is a day to be alive, a day to be shared.

You catch a glimpse of a fast moving blur in the rear view. The crotch rocket closes in quickly but holds once beside, anticipating another twist of the throttle except he hesitates caught off guard by the tranquility of your ride. In that moment he realizes why the lazy ride, why you are not hell bent on speed. His world slows. You ride in silence for a couple more miles before he gives a nod and moves on a little more reserved, a little more in the here and now.

We pass a few more cars throwing a peace sign at the little boy whose face is pressed up to a car window watching as we pass by. As our exhaust resonates off the car we know it is resonating within him. He will be a rider; this moment will stay with him until one day when he is riding in the Golden Hour passing a mini-van he too can smile at the young boy looking out the window.

As the Golden Hour slips away to dusk we slide off the highway making our way home. We cherish these rides; hold them close to our hearts. They are the foundation of who we are. The backdrop behind the high speed passes on the salt flats, the wild and crazy nights tearing up Sturgis. It is the reason we stand tall, the reason we honor those who stand in the line of fire. It is the reason we ride.

THE DAVE ZIEN FLAG CONTROVERSY WITH H-D– Somehow this has to be a win-win for Harley. just discovered by scooter, service manager at Rice Lake Harley Davidson yesterday –a major contributing reason for clutch / tranny failures-perhaps for past several years.

Thursday, May 8 :

Maverick Harley-DAVIDSON Dallas Texas; service immediately after clutch noise started. Maverick’s Jeff, a technician, had been on the phone with Harley technical services for over one hour. Bike at that shop seven hours.

Prognosis:
(1)can’t find reason for noise in clutch
(2) noise will continue
(3) Dave instructed to take it easy when noise occurs
(4)three clutch plates were dry, not known why -soaked in oil

Thursday, May 8 – Sat May 10 :
Dave speaks to world’s largest motorcycle rights organization national coalition of motorcyclist (NCOM) Board of Directors, legislative task force, and Confederation of clubs. He interacts with Christian unity conference: Bike Not driven at all .

Sunday May 11 fifth-gear slips .

Dave uses only one, four, and six gears :

Monday, May 12:

St. Croix Harley-DAVIDSON Dave Thorsen, senior service technician :

(1) discovers service manual is wrong . it describes two instead of three steel plates . He informs Harley technical services of error.
(2) three clutch plates dry, not knowing why! exactly as happened at Maverick in Dallas.
(3) observes two design errors (a)beveling (b) lack of Teflon , which snowmobiles have been using since 1979.
(4) Notices sludge on the bottom of transmission Kyle service writer, Informs Dave That Harley has blocked powertrain engine -clutch &transmission for seven years of warranty work because of flags.
Tuesday, May 13

Greg Freiberg service manager tells Dave :

(1)there is 99.9% chance Harley-DAVIDSON will not change mind on Blocking VIN #.

(2) tranny is out as well , Dave responsible for all repair costs!
(3) Accuses Dave , rather abrasively ( it appears he was speaking on behalf of HD Corporate), of not using clutch. I said ,”I have never speed shifted that Bike a single time ! after being one of two people to surpass 2 1/2 million miles driving motorcycle ,I know how to use a clutch!”

he said something confusing about clutch lever being on the gearshift . I said it is on original place , on handlebar . gear shift lever is extended . I reach across with my right hand the . My 2011 Trike has the clutch on the shift lever .
(4) he said Harley would not have warranted clutch anyway , because clutch is a wearable item just like tires .
 (5) in seven years they’ve never seen That clutch so bad .” I replied that the hydraulic clutch is brand-new ,as of August 2013 in the Harley trikes . he had no response.

Friday, May 16 :

Garth Johnson ,retired truck mechanic accompanies me to St. Croix .his Possible assessment:

(1)obvious lubricating /circulating issue
(2)air in lines ,affecting engaging& disengaging
(3) clutch tolerance clutch not correct ,causing burn marks

(4) improper installation of clutch plates (5) obvious clutch interrelated to transmission problems

Wed 5/28/14 :

Dave calls St. Croix ,Greg answers , saying compensating sprocket is also worn & is on backorder. “You’ve Ridden that bike hard,” said Greg.

Scooter Rice. Lake HD , service manager theorizes that Trikes are always level and do not tip in order to allow oil to circulate properly . The primary clutch areas on 2 wheeled Cycles ,lean on corners and on kickstands, which circulates oil better .

Scooter believes there are not enough oil holes in the drums and plates . If there is not proper release ,this could be a major design error for trikes .

Harley has been experimenting with a wide variety of clutch components and assemblies since 2010 . The 2014 is yet a new design. Could this be a reason that I had clutch / transmission problems with my 2011 Trike?

Is there anyone out there that still believes flags are the problem?

BEWARE OF THE ONSLAUGHT OF TECHNOLOGY–
How does Google’s self-driving car work – and when can we drive one?

Self-driving car prototype has no steering wheel, brake or accelerator pedals. So how safe is it, and what is it like on the road?

• Google’s driverless car: no steering wheel, two seats, 25mph

• Analysis: a long and winding road to success

Google unveiled a brand new self-driving car prototype on Tuesday; the first company to build a car with no a steering wheel, accelerator or brake pedal.

The car’s arrival marks the next stage in Google’s self-driving car project, which was born from the Darpa Grand Challenges for robotic vehicles in the early 2000s. Google kickstarted its own self-driving car project in 2008, and it has been rumbling on ever since, first with modified Toyota Prius and then with customised Lexus SUVs, which took the car’s existing sensors, such as the cruise-control cameras, and added a spinning laser scanner on the top.

It is the first truly driverless electric car prototype built by Google to test the next stage of its five-year-old self-driving car project. It looks like a cross between a Smart car and a Nissan Micra, with two seats and room enough for a small amount of luggage.

MRF BOARD CONTACT–
I was contacted today by the new state coordinator of ABATE of Oregon via email. Some of you remember Joseph Laurence, he keynoted Best of the West a few years back.

He is a man of few words and deep thoughts. I’ve known Joe since before my first official day with the MRF. Karen Bolin called me while I was still working for a member of
congress and asked me to hook up with the ABATE of Oregon guys who were lobbying DC for a couple of days. Joe and I hit it off and he became one of the folks who I communicate with on a regular basis and he continued to come to DC for a few more years.

Karen knew him personally as she was from a neighboring state. Joe has a really unique story. He used to make a living as truck driver hauling logs from the Oregon timber field to the lumbar yard.

Because of the spotted owl and other environmental reasons the EPA and Dept of Interior started reducing the land areas available for logging. This caused Joe to not have as much work. He went to his county commissioner and begged him to step in and help. When the commissioner sat idly by and let his constituents be forced out of work Joe decided to do something.

He ran for county commissioner, and won. He is still county commissioner and now state coordinator for ABATE of Oregon. I’m going to speak to him in the next few days and inquire as to what is happening with BIKEPAC and the general state of Oregon. One thing
you can be sure of and that is ABATE of Oregon is in great hands.

Thornley, “We’re really pleased with our first few outings; although we haven’t made the winner’s circle yet this year we’re running very strong and were runner up to some pretty stiff competition. Valerie Thompson to attend BMW Riders Association Rally and California Superbike School in Birmingham– (Scottsdale, AZ) – May 28, 2014 – Five-time land speed record holder and one of the world’s fastest BMW racers, Valerie Thompson, will travel to Birmingham Alabama to participate in the 42nd annual BMW Riders Association Rally at Barber Motorsports Park. Thompson will also attend the California Superbike School that runs in conjunction with the rally from May 29 – June 2.

The rally will feature over 45 BMW motorcycle related vendors, seminars and on-track events. Thompson’s record holding BMW S 1000 RR will be displayed at the Schuberth Helmet booth and she will be a featured speaker during the event.

“I can’t wait to get to Birmingham for these two excellent events. I’m looking forward to touring the Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum, home to the world’s best motorcycle collection with over 1,200 vintage and modern motorcycles and racecars,” said Thompson. “BMW supplies S 1000 RR Superbikes for the California Superbike School, so I’ll feel right at home,” added Thompson.

Keith Code founded the California Superbike School to provide a unique combination of classroom and on-track step-by-step instruction for motorcyclists whose skills range from novice street riders to factory racers. The school offers four levels of courses throughout the US, Australia and Europe. The first three levels present five precise technical riding skills and each level can be completed in one day. Code is credited with breaking the sport down into its essential components and bringing real understanding to riders in all categories. His books, video and schools were the first to make that knowledge available to everyone.

“No matter how long you’ve been riding motorcycles, the expert training provided by the California Superbike School will make you even better. The combination of trained professionals like Keith Code and BMW Superbikes offers an unmatched opportunity to improve your riding skills,” added Thompson.?

LUBE OF THE WEEK–High Temperature / High Shear Viscosity Premium Semi-Synthetic 20W-50 Dynacycle Oil.

Jamesburg, NJ – Dynacycle Oil is a High Temperature / High Shear Viscosity Premium Semi-Synthetic 20W-50 Dynacycle Oil guaranteed to reduce engine temperature up to 30°F over conventional oils and up to 15°F over full synthetic oils, thus extending piston and bearing life. This oil was specifically designed and patented for “air cooled” or oxygenated “Harley type” engines to extend engine life, but also increases oil pressure and horsepower.

Viscosity is an important property of fluid lubricants. The viscosity of all fluids varies with temperature. The usefulness of the viscosity of lubricants is greatest when the viscosity is measured at or near the conditions of shear rate and temperature that the lubricants will experience in service.

The High Temperature / High Shear Test measures a lubricants viscosity under severe high temperature and shear conditions that resemble highly-loaded journal bearings in fired internal combustion engines. In order to prevent bearing wear, it is important for a lubricant to maintain its protective viscosity under severe operating conditions.

Dynacycle Oil has one of the best High Temperature / High Shear Viscosity numbers in the industry with a 6.12, which beats many of the top selling motorcycle oil’s on the market today. Watch for the latest results from the independent testing currently being conducted comparing horsepower and torque results from the top oil producers.

The Info and Specs we are reporting was gathered from independent Dynacycle Oil testing
and from the data reported on our competitor’s websites.

Dynacycle Oil and it’s owners are NOT responsible for incorrect data or misprints
reported by our competitors and/or from other manufacturer websites

Want more horsepower, torque and a longer lasting engine, try Dynacycle Oil. Call Dynacycle Oil at 732-605-9003, email them at info@dynacycleoil.com or check them out online at www.dynacycleoil.com.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN– A farmer named Clyde had a tractor accident. In court, the trucking company’s fancy hot shot lawyer, was questioning Clyde. “Didn’t you say, at the scene of the accident, ‘I’m fine,’?” asked the lawyer.

Clyde responded, “Well, I’ll tell you what happened. I had just loaded my favorite cow, Bessie, into the…”

“I didn’t ask for any details”, the lawyer interrupted. “Just answer the question, please. Did you, or did you not say, at the scene of the accident, ‘I’m fine!’?”

Clyde said, “Well, I had just got Bessie into the trailer behind the tractor and I was driving down the road….”

The lawyer interrupted again and said, “Your Honor, I am trying to establish the fact that, at the scene of the accident, this man told the Highway Patrolman on the scene that he was just fine. Now several weeks after the accident he is trying to sue my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tell him to simply answer the question.”

By this time, the Judge was fairly interested in Clyde’s answer and said to the lawyer, “I’d like to hear what he has to say about his favorite cow, Bessie”.

Clyde thanked the Judge and proceeded. “Well, as I was saying, I had just loaded Bessie, my favorite cow, into the trailer and was driving her down the highway when this huge semi-truck and trailer ran the stop sign and smacked my John Deer Tractor right in the side. I was thrown into one ditch and Bessie was thrown into the other. I was hurting, real bad and didn’t want to move. However, I could hear old Bessie moaning and groaning. I knew she was in terrible shape just by her groans.

Shortly after the accident a Highway Patrolman came on the scene. He could hear Bessie moaning and groaning, so he went over to her. After he looked at her, and saw her fatal condition, he took out his gun and shot her between the eyes. Then the Patrolman came across the road, gun still in hand, looked at me, and said, “How are you feeling?”

“Now tell me, what the HECK would you say?”

SINCE I’M ON A RANT—This issue of the news points out how technology will eat us alive. We are running into some wonderful improvements within the world of technology, but what happens if robots eliminate 47 percent of all jobs? What happens if motorcycles are banned for driverless cars and no accidents?

And with Obama care fully enacted you will be monitored from a risk management angle 24/7. What’s it mean to the human spirit, if you can’t customize, you can’t go fast, or do a burnout on your front lawn. What if we didn’t work, but lived totally safe lives. On the weekend you could take a pass to a old school utopia where you would be forced to sign a release, then under very guided circumstances you could ride a bike, in controlled conditions. Maybe you could see a stripper, and then return to your controlled living environment.

Quick, run for your lives.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
