BIKETOBERFEST BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for October 15, 2015

Hey,

Never a dull moment. Life is so nuts, but we bang along and try to keep the party alive. Maybe it’s the nature of the beast. We were discussing clubs the other day. Most of the violent guys from my era are dead or still in jail. You would think the new guys would find a better way. There must be a way to have a blast, ride wild motorcycles, and chase girls. I once suggested a WWF type of club sanctioning body. Then club guys could fight and make a buck. Hell, TV would go crazy for the rights. It’s not hardly just MC Clubs. Take a look at the middle east.

Maybe it’s the nature of the beast, but on the other hand society is getting tired of the bullshit and bringing more pressure to bare on these guys, like Waco, California, and Australia. I need to go to a Confederation of Clubs meeting. Richard Lester and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists have done a tremendous amount of work to open doors of communication and sort out some of the issues. But maybe it’s just the nature of the beast…

Let’s hit the news. The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by Cycle Source Magazine, Iron Trader, and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation.

CLASSIC, Ghost Towns and Day of the Dead in Death Valley?– Halloween and Encampment Highlight Fall Celebrations

Furnace Creek Resort is offering travelers a bevy of fall activities for the whole family. From touring ghost towns on Halloween weekend with the Day of the Dead Package to re-living the gold rush as a pioneer during the 66th Annual 49er’s Encampment, this mirage in the desert offers a unique twist on the perfect fall getaway.

An honored Halloween tradition, Day of the Dead (or Dia de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday that honors the deceased, and many believe that on this day, spirits of those passed return to their homes. And with a rich history and more than its fair share of ghost towns, Death Valley National Park and Furnace Creek Resort are the places to celebrate Halloween this season.

From October 30-November 2, travelers can ring in the Day of the Dead or spend Halloween weekend learning about the brave prospectors who journeyed across the country in search of treasure and explore the once bustling towns throughout.

The Day of the Dead Package includes*:
Accommodations at the Inn at Furnace Creek or the Ranch at Furnace Creek
A commemorative Day of the Dead six-by-six-inch tile – traveler’s choice from the more than 70 to choose from in the General Store
Map of Death Valley Ghost Towns with suggested itinerary for exploration

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY NOW OPEN– An elderly Floridian called 911 on her cell phone to report that her car has been broken into. She is hysterical as she explains her situation to the dispatcher: “They’ve stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator!” she cried.

The dispatcher said, “Stay calm. An officer is on the way.” A few minutes later, the officer radios in.

“Disregard.” He says. She got in the back-seat by mistake.”

“I CAN HEAR JUST FINE!”
Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day. One remarked to the other, “Windy, isn’t it?”

“No,” the second man replied, “it’s Thursday.”

And the third man chimed in, “So am I. Let’s have a beer.”

CLASSIC TRIUMPH CALENDAR SHOT OF THE WEEK– By the late 1940s a 500cc Triumph twin was old hat. Triumph dealt with the displacement deficit in the only way possible, by boring and stroking the 500cc engine to a whopping 650cc to create the hot rod of the day.

UNCLE MONKEY DISCUSSED GETTING OLD–
It sneaks up on us when we least expect it too – a hard long day helping others. We work our way through it happy to be lending a helping whether it is swinging a hammer, spinning some wrenches or wielding a shovel. It is a little different from our usual routine but we don’t think much of it.

It is not until we are home that we notice those aches and pains from usually unused muscles. We are lulled into a false sense of fitness when only the slightest change takes more toll on us than we expect. It is not until the next day that the toll really hits home, the aches and pains in parts of your body you had long forgotten about.

You put on a brave face, smile when others talk to you but on the inside you are screaming. You curse yourself for not being in better shape; curse yourself for not working on those muscles in our regular routine. We soldier on with a stiff upper lip.

We promise that we will never be caught off guard again. Deep down we know that they are false hopes. Usual routines are just that – usual routines. The guy digging ditches is worn out hanging drywall overhead; the heavy mechanic is tripped up swinging a hammer, horseback rides for nieces and nephews from the guy sitting at the desk all day. Soon the ache will go away, soon we will be back at our regular day, soon a friend will be helping us, soon they will be moving a little slower because of those forgotten muscles.

KAWASAKI Donates 30th Anniversary Edition Ninja ZX-14R for Boystown Benefit Auction–
Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., announced today that it will donate the final 30th Anniversary Edition 2015 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R made to Boys Town California for its live auction at the annual Night of Hope event on October 17, from The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California. The rare motorcycle pays tribute to the original Ninja 900R from 1984 and is painted with the exact shade of Firecracker Red and Metallic Greystone as its predecessor. Additionally, to commemorate the occasion for Kawasaki the Ninja ZX-14R is fitted with 30th Anniversary logos, has the badge number 300 on the gas tank, and features gold pinstriping and gold brake calipers. This limited run of 300 motorcycles was exclusive to the United States, making this one of the most sought after collectibles for any enthusiast.

U.S.A., and member of the Boys Town California Board of Directors. “The Night of Hope is one of the most prestigious and important events in Orange County and it’s fitting that one of the region’s most prominent companies has stepped up to support the event in such a unique and memorable way.”

Boys Town California was started in 1991 with the mission of providing programs focused on saving children of abuse in Southern California. Boys Town operates seven family homes in the region, reserved for youth who are unable to return to their homes as a result of abuse or neglect. In an effort to prevent out-of-home placement and keep families intact, Boys Town also provides intervention assistance through in-home family services and community support services.

With an MSRP of just under $16,000, this coveted piece of Kawasaki history is sure to garner tremendous attention from the gathering of 300 of Orange County’s most affluent and renowned individuals. Just last year the Night of Hope raised over $135,000, with all proceeds going directly to children and families in need. With the sought after Ninja ZX-14R up for auction, Kawasaki is sure to play an integral role in the event’s goal to raise over $180,000 this year. QUICK, GUN NUT REPORT– California: Hunters’ Guide to Complying with California’s New Lead Ammunition Restrictions.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) and its affiliate, the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA), are now distributing the Hunters’ Guide to Complying With California’s Lead Ammunition Restrictions. This helpful and important guide serves as a comprehensive resource for hunters who need to know about California’s lead ammunition restrictions. The guide will aid hunters in navigating California’s complex lead ammunition regulations especially when using traditional lead ammunition for hunting while it remains legal in certain areas for a limited time.

As previously reported, the new law will require the use of non-lead ammunition for all hunting statewide beginning July 1, 2019. In the years leading up to the total statewide ban, lead ammunition use for hunting will be incrementally restricted in phases. The guide explains each of the three phases in detail, and will help hunters comply with these patchwork restrictions as they take effect.

The guide’s centerpiece is the Phased Implementation Lead Ban Compliance Table, which can be used as a quick reference to determine whether a particular hunt will require using non-lead ammunition. Other portions of the guide detail the potential issues arising from using lead ammunition, as well as some of the law’s more subtle nuances that create legal traps for the unwary.

The NRA and CRPA have made the Guide available to the public free of charge. We recommend that you always consult the electronic, rather than a printed version of the guide because regulations may change and the guide may be updated. If you do not see the answer to a question you have or believe there is an error in this guide, please provide feedback to: contact@crpa.org.

Help Us Help You

Please help us fight for your right to choose to own a gun for sport, or to defend yourself and your family. The NRA and CRPA work together in California to fight for you, in cities and counties across the state, in regulatory agencies, and in the courts. Even with the generous rates that our team of civil rights attorneys, legislative advocates, experts and consultants grant us, these ongoing efforts are still expensive. You can support our pro-Second Amendment efforts in California by donating to the NRA Legal Action Project. All donations will be spent to specifically benefit California gun owners.

For a summary of current and recent actions NRA and CRPA have taken on behalf of California gun owners, including the groundbreaking Peruta case, click here. To read about some of the past actions NRA and CRPA have taken in the fight for your Second Amendment rights in California, click here.

MARKETING NEVER STOPS–

I wanted to pass along an innovative story idea about bikers transforming their motorcycle wheels with streaming video and images. World Moto just launched “Wheelies”, technology that transforms any wheel into a brilliant, full color billboard or video screen (see video).

It’s taken off in Asia as an advertising tool – now it’s coming to America allowing individuals to use for personal expression or for making money as rolling digital ad billboards.

Here’s the Kickstarter page and press release – please let me know if this of interest and I’m happy to send over high-res images and set up a quick interview if you wish.

YAMAHA Unveils DT-07 Flat Track Concept Bike– Codenamed the “DT-07,” the bike is a one-off creation designed and built by Jeff Palhegyi Design in conjunction with Yamaha’s U.S. race shop. The DT-07 features a special race-tuned FZ-07 twin-cylinder engine with an exhaust system created by Graves Motorsports.

“When the FZ-07 was first introduced, we knew that the bike’s ‘Crossplane Concept’ parallel-twin engine had outstanding low- to mid-range torque, which is ideal for flat track racing,” commented Keith McCarty, Motorsports Racing Division Manager for Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A.

“Babe Demay’s FZ-07 flat track creation has already shown huge potential this season, with Dominic Colindres winning his heat race and also finishing fourth at the most recent AMA Pro Flat Track event. Here in Cypress, we’ve been doing some exploration of our own, and the DT-07 Concept is the result.

The FZ-07 is a great bike and also a great platform for customization. We wanted to see what we could do with the bike as a flat tracker, and we’re very pleased with the results.”

With its one-piece bodywork resplendent in 60th-Anniversary race livery, the DT-07 features a purpose-built frame, swingarm with an adjustable pivot and link system, modified R6 conventional-style forks, an Ohlins rear shock, wheels by Propulsion Labs, and of course, the FZ-07’s compact, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, twin-cylinder engine is the focal point of the machine.

“One of our specific goals with the DT-07 was to retain some of the FZ-07’s styling cues,” Derek Brooks, Motorcycle Product Planning Manager for Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., added. “I worked with Jeff (Palhegyi) on the design of the bike, and we literally used the FZ-07’s fuel tank cover as the basis for the body mold on the DT-07 Concept. The entire bike was essentially built from scratch, and it is Yamaha’s interpretation of what a dirt tracker designed from the ground up in 2015 should look like.”

INTERMOT raises visibility in South America– Cooperation with Brazilian association

On the occasion of the largest Brazilian motorcycle fair, Salão Duas Rodas, with an expected 250,000 visitors, the event organizers of INTERMOT Cologne forged a cooperation on site with ANFAMOTO – Associação Nacional dos Fabricantes e Atacadistas de Motopeças, the Brazilian association of manufacturers and wholesalers of motorcycle parts.

“Brazil is an important growth market for our exhibitors. It is therefore our goal to raise visibility and awareness of INTERMOT in Brazil and in so doing, bring more importers, disseminators and industry contacts to Cologne”, said Christoph Werner, Senior Vice President in charge of Trade Fair Management at Koelnmesse. “We are pleased to have a strong partner on our side in ANFAMOTO which has its own stake in supporting this venture.” Through this cooperation, the international motorcycle, scooter and e-bike fair, which takes place from 5 to 9 October in Cologne, expands its engagement in South America as part of Koelnmesse’s internationalisation strategy.

ANFAMOTO plans to send a visiting delegation to INTERMOT 2016, consisting of trade and industry members who are interested in developing new contacts for import and export. A joint stand is planned for exhibiting companies from Brazil. Furthermore, both INTERMOT Cologne and ANFAMOTO will be represented as cooperating partners with a stand at the respective partner event, and will mutually support each other’s advertising efforts in advance of the fairs.

In order to heighten media attention throughout the country, the organisers of INTERMOT additionally forged media cooperations with important publications of the Brazilian motorcycle-related trade media.

With 1.1 million vehicles per year, Brazil constitutes the largest South American market for motorised two-wheelers. According to an independent survey, the INTERMOT exhibitors see one of the most relevant growth markets in the land of the Sugarloaf Mountain. With the cooperation, the fair brings supply and demand even closer together.

BROCK’S PERFORMANCE Builds the World’s Fastest Kawasaki Ninja H2– Looking to build a Kawasaki Ninja H2 streetbike that was faster than its lighter, more powerful, twice-the-price, racetrack-only H2R stablemate, Brock’s Performance took a customer-supplied, $25,000 H2, developed a $4000 Stage 2 kit that added 70 horsepower and shaved off 50 pounds, then went on to beat the H2R’s official land-speed record of 218 mph.

Brock’s Performance Kawasaki Ninja H2 Breaks H2R’s Land-Speed Record

Kawasaki’s supercharged H2 may be the most powerful mass-produced, street-legal motorcycle on Earth, but the space-age, $25,000 Ninja missile is overshadowed by its twice-the-price, racetrack-only stablemate–Kawasaki’s bolder, faster, lighter H2R.

When street-loving, H2-owning acceleration addicts around the world cried foul, saying their bikes’ 203 horsepower just wasn’t enough and 525 pounds of Ninja was way too much, the Brock’s Performance in-house team of championship-winning engineers, tuners and racers sprang into action.

On a mission to produce the world’s fastest H2 solely with bolt-on parts, they designed a Stage 2 kit consisting of Brock’s new modular exhaust system, a re-flashed, stock ECU, a custom-mapped fuel-management unit, a high-power clutch mod, revised gearing and lowered suspension.

Their intensive development program resulted in a Stage 2 kit worth 70+ horsepower–just $56 per pony–and good for a 50-pound weight loss in racetrack-ready form.

Armed with a leaner, meaner H2, the Brock’s squad set out to break a race-prepped H2R’s official land-speed record of 218.3406 mph from a standing start–in just one mile.

During the Stage 2 H2’s test & tune session, it sprinted through the quarter-mile in just 8.99 seconds at 166.54 mph on Kil-Kare Raceway’s slippery ‘strip. This was but a mere trial run.

The real deal took place at the East Coast Timing Association’s Ohio Mile, a standing-start top-speed contest that awards officially recognized world records. Each pass takes place on a 150-foot-wide runway at Airborne Park in Wilmington, Ohio.

In the saddle was veteran land-speed racer Zack Millholland, Brock’s hired gun charged with hunting down the H2R’s record in the Modified Partial Streamline, blown gas, 3000cc class. Having tracked his prey in earlier runs, by meet’s end, he walked away with a 219.4052 mph timing slip and a new world record.

After hurtling down the runway at 322 feet per second, the 34-year-old motorcycle shop parts manager from Maryville, Tennessee, proved that this 274-horsepower beast is still a capable street bike by riding it back to the Brock’s Performance R&D facility. A few hours earlier, he covered a mile in 24.21 seconds; on this commute, he put in another 45 minutes of seat time to travel just 35 more.

Milholland was inspired to give praise where it was due: “Kawasaki did an amazing job building the H2, but thanks to Brock’s Performance the bike can be ridden on the street like a normal motorcycle — yet still have a ridiculous amount of manageable power when you want it!”

Brock’s Performance President Brock Davidson, a license-holding 200+ mph land-speed-racing participant, is ecstatic with the achievement: “Our goal is always to extract the maximum performance out of the latest sportbikes using only bolt-on components. Zack ran almost 220 mph in less-than-favorable conditions. The Stage 2 H2 is the most beautiful, sophisticated and ferocious street bike we’ve ever built. I can’t believe such hassle-free performance can be had at this price.”

The $4000 Stage 2 kit is headed up by the first of Brock’s new modular full exhaust systems. The H2’s allows riders to mount either the championship-winning Alien Head muffler or a new Slash-Cut design. The Slash-Cut looks just like the more expensive H2R’s can, but omits the street bike’s bulky OEM catalytic converter. Overall, the modular system is 70% lighter than stock and gives a much cleaner, more businesslike look.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS STILL OPEN–
RETIREMENT CENTER
80-year old Bessie bursts into the rec room at the retirement home. She holds her clenched fist in the air and announces, “Anyone who can guess what’s in my hand can have sex with me tonight!”

An elderly gentleman in the rear shouts out, “An elephant?”

Bessie thinks a minute and says, “Close enough.”

Dear Boss,
I have enjoyed working here these past several years. You have paid me very well, given me benefits beyond belief. I have 3-4 months off per year and a pension plan that will pay my salary till the day I die and a health plan that most people can only dream about.

I plan to take the next 12-18 months to find a new position. During this time I will show up for work when it is convenient. In addition, I fully expect to draw my full salary and all the other perks associated with my current job.

Oh yeah, if my search for this new job proves fruitless, I will be back with no loss in pay or status. Before you say anything, remember that you have no choice in the matter.

I can and will do this.

OPEN ROAD Incredible Edibles set to introduce best tasting Superfood Bars worldwide with new Kickstarter Campaign– Tired of energy bars that taste like the wrapper? Feel The Horsepower Chocolate Superfood Bars, a subsidiary of Open Road Incredible Edibles, is launching a new Kickstarter campaign today to raise funding to introduce America’s best tasting performance enhancing bars world-wide after a successful local introduction in Chicago this past Spring.

Feel the Horsepower is a startup company specializing in artesian handcrafted specialty confectionery bars created for great taste and power-packed vitamin infusion.

The company has successfully tested the product in the Chicago market with a combination of limited retail availability, special event samplings and focus groups.

“Feel the Horsepower Bars are an on-the-go delight that not only satisfies your sweet tooth, but delivers the jolt you need to handle the rigors of the road or a too-busy day. I’m a true believer,” said Marilyn Stemp, Iron Trader News.

“Our product is unique. We have a proprietary ‘gel’ surrounded by dark chocolate infused with all natural organic ingredients that provides energy, power and performance replacement. Most importantly, it tastes like a treat, not a treatment,” said company founder, Gina Woods.

The company’s goal is to eliminate the stigma that if it is good for you it tastes bad, with a product made through nearby sourced and sustainable ingredients from local farms who hire employees within the community to drive economic growth. The company’s Kickstarter campaign is designed to raise money to take production and distribution of Feel The Horsepower worldwide.

“I recently started Open Road Incredible Edibles, through my Talk Radio Show, program, openroadradio.com. I didn’t know I’d be entering into the Energy /Nutrition Bar business when I started my program 17- years ago. It’s an $8B industry, but once bitten, it became an instant obsession for me and my staff,” added Woods.

The campaign kicks off today with rewards for donations that include Feel The Horsepower stickers, hats, t-shirts, leather jackets, gas tanks, business radio commercials, a NASCAR Experience and Valerie Thompson Racing autographed swag!

METZELER RACETEC RR named “TIRE OF THE YEAR” by Motorcycle News–Award for new category defining racing supersport tire backs up wins at Isle of Man TT and in comparative tests

Capping a fantastic year both on and off track, the class leading METZELER RACETEC RR has been named ‘Tire of the Year’ by Motorcycle News.

Awarded by the paper on the basis of its outstanding performance, the tire also came out top in the comparative test held by the publication at the circuit of Jerez earlier this year. In this test the tire was adjudged to be the ‘best Sporty tire’ and lap the fastest, as it was pitted against its rivals, with all tires running at road pressures on track.

Crucially, the actual tire used was the hardest of the three METZELER RACETEC RR compounds (the K3), perfect for both everyday road use and trackdays. Although road legal, the K1 and K2 compounds are intended for more pure track activities.

The other tires in this test were: Pirelli DIABLO Supercorsa SP, Bridgestone Battlax RS10, Dunlop Sportmax GP Racer D211, Continental ContiRaceAttack Comp and Michelin Power Supersport.

In international Road Racing METZELER RACETEC RR tires helped Ian Hutchinson complete a fairytale return to winning ways at the Isle of Man TT, winning both Supersport races and the Superstock race. The tires dominated the podium at both the TT and the North West 200 races held in Northern Ireland.

As part of the judging panel, Motorcycle News Senior Road Tester Michael Neeves explained: “The METZELER RACETEC™ RR tires stood up to the toughest of MCN tests. We pushed them to limit on track and on the road and they handled everything we threw at them with ease. It’s a truly fantastic tire that has the ability to transition from road to track”.

METZELER UK Marketing Manager Simon Carter added: “We’re incredibly proud that MCN has named the METZELER RACETEC™ RR the tire of the year. With MCN being one of the most iconic motorcycling publications in the world, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015, it really is a prestigious accolade.

We’re thrilled with the positive feedback received not just from MCN and the rest of the press but regular riders and top road racers regarding the RACETEC™ RR and are looking forward to further success on the Roads next year!”
