THE MIX BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for March 16, 2017

Hey,

Today is a mix of wild news from Daytona to Los Angeles. Half the gang is in Daytona Beach kickin’ the sand. Some are planning for Arizona Bike Week next month. Others are making plans for the Smoke Out and I’m planning a run to 13 Palms to Dr. Hamster’s digs with some girls, one who wants me to write another mystery novel.

We will dig in the desert to find Bob T. and then slip over to the other side of the 10 freeway to hook up with more girls in Palm Streams. But hell, I need to peel back to the shop to help Frankie Jr. fix his Dyna, and register his Spitfire Motorcycles FXR. Hang on.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored by companies who dig Freedom including Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown and BorntoRide.com.

THE BIKERNET UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER ANALYSIS OF NEW TRUMP HEALTH CARE PACKAGE–
The American Medical Association has weighed in on Trump’s proposed health care package to replace Obama-care:

The Allergists were in favor of scratching it; but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it; but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception; while the Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Pathologists yelled, “Over my dead body!” While the Pediatricians said, “Oh, grow up!”

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness; while the Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and the Internists claimed it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow.

The Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would “put a whole new
face on the matter.”

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward; but the Urologists were
pissed off at the whole idea.

Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out; leaving the entire decision up
to the assholes in Washington!

AT 140 MPH ON SNOW OR 200 MPH ON PAVEMENT, RANDALL FUELS HIS PASSION WITH VP FUELS–
Cliff Randall is passionate about most things in life, but perhaps most about speed – drag racing on snowmobiles and running mile events on motorcycles. Whether on two wheels or snow, Randall is fueled by VP Racing Fuels, a company that shares his passion for performance.

“We live and breathe performance on snow and pavement up here in Toronto. It’s our passion,” said Randall. “When you’re topping out above 140 mph on sleds and 200 mph on bikes, you need the best products and support from your suppliers. We’d be lost without the fabulous expertise and support from VP Racing Fuels, particularly Randy Lungal, our go-to guy at VP-Ontario.”

“Over the years, we’ve done quite a bit of collaboration with VP on product development and quality control. That’s one of VP’s strengths. Most of them are racers themselves and they don’t confine themselves to the laboratory – they get out in the field and on the track with their customers,” Randall continued.

“At this point, it’s been 17 years that we’ve been using VP fuels and in recent years, we’ve found C12 to be the most consistent, best performing fuel for both our sleds and bikes,” added Randall. “In most cases, we’ve found we don’t need every bit of C12’s 112 octane, so we mix it with pump gas to yield the 100 octane that appears to optimize performance in our Ski-Doo MachZ 1000cc 2 stroke race sled and Kawasaki ZX1270.”

“Working with Cliff is a real pleasure – it’s rewarding to be in a position to help support someone’s passion,” said Randy Lungal, owner of VP-Ontario. “He’s not in it for the money, but rather for the challenge and the joy of competing. Win or lose, Cliff is always well-prepared with the best looking equipment in the field and represents VP really well.”

VP Racing Fuels is best known as the World Leader in Race Fuel Technology, fueling champions in virtually every form of motorsport on land, sea and air since 1975.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–

A funeral procession pulled into Pressley Cemetery. Several car loads of family members followed a black truck towing a boat with a coffin in it. A passer-by remarked, “That guy must have been a very avid fisherman.”

“Oh, he still is,” remarked one of the mourners. “As a matter of fact, he’s headed off to the lake as soon as we bury his wife.”

President Trump has proposed that we build a wall to keep the Mexicans out of the U.S. and there are some that say it will not work. Well China has proved that it will work. Over 2,000 years ago they built a wall and today there are absolutely no Mexicans in China.

CLIMATE CALAMITY REPORT–
To Protect Climate Money, Obama Stashed It Where It’s Hard to Find

by Christopher Flavelle

President Donald Trump will find the job of reining in spending on climate initiatives made harder by an Obama-era policy of dispersing billions of dollars in programs across dozens of agencies — in part so they couldn’t easily be cut.

There is no single list of those programs or their cost, because President Barack Obama sought to integrate climate programs into everything the federal government did. The goal was to get all agencies to take climate into account, and also make those programs hard to disentangle, according to former members of the administration. In some cases, the idea was to make climate programs hard for Republicans in Congress to even find.

“Much of the effort in the Obama administration was to mainstream climate change,” said Jesse Keenan, who worked on climate issues with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and now teaches at Harvard University. He said all federal agencies were required to incorporate climate-change plans into their operations.

The Obama administration’s approach will be tested by Trump’s first budget request to Congress, an outline of which is due to be released Thursday. Trump has called climate change a hoax; last November he promised to save $100 billion over eight years by cutting all federal climate spending. His budget will offer an early indication of the seriousness of that pledge — and whether his administration is able to identify programs that may have intentionally been called anything but climate-related.

The last time the Congressional Research Service estimated total federal spending on climate was in 2013. It concluded 18 agencies had climate-related activities, and calculated $77 billion in spending from fiscal 2008 through 2013 alone.

But that figure could well be too low. The Obama administration didn’t always include “climate” in program names, said Alice Hill, director for resilience policy on Obama’s National Security Council.

Meanwhile, a handful of lesser-known offices saw their funding increase while Obama was in office. The budget for NASA’s Earth Science program increased 50 percent, to $1.8 billion. Funding for the U.S. Global Change Research Program, which is mandated by Congress to report every four years on the state of climate change, rose 45 percent to $2.6 billion. At the National Science Foundation, the geosciences program almost doubled to $1.3 billion.

FEATURE COMING TO BIKERNET TRIKES—
I can’t wait for this. This hot rod trike is cool and Josh is going to road test it.

“I’m about to pilot a Vanderhall “Autocycle” for a road test feature, if you’re interested,” said Josh.

Please see https://vanderhallusa.com

According to a factory spokesman, the hotrod/motorcycle crossbreed is registered as a motorcycle in all states. However, there also seems some loophole that allows the driver to need only a regular driver’s license, no special endorsements or helmet needed. The spokesman claims their vehicle outperforms the Slingshot in every relevant category.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY STILL OPEN–
A blonde buys a ticket and wins the LOTTERY.

She goes to lottery headquarters to claim it and the man verifies his ticket number. The blonde says, “I want my $20 million.”
The man replied, “No, sorry lady. It doesn’t work that way. We give you a million today and then you’ll get the rest spread out for the next 19 years.”

The blonde said, “Oh, no. I want all my money right now! I won it and I want it.”

Again, the man explain that he would only get a million that day and the rest during the next 19 years.

The blonde, furious with the man, screams out, “Look, I want my money! If you’re not going to give me my $20 million right now, then I want my dollar back!”

The Day of the Long Bikes, Straight outa Berdoo and into AZ

Loved the articles and comments on Denver’s Choppers. My husband at the time had a Denver’s Chopper & was good friends with him. He told Denver when he saw Denver’s high school picture on the wall at his home, “Damn, Denver, you could have posed for holy pictures!”

I spent a lot of time at Denver’s Choppers in the late 1970s-1980s. I still have one of the Denver’s Choppers t-shirts. I just got back from Berdoo & I tried to find the location of his shop. Does anyone know the address?

UNCLE MONKEY ON BOOK LEARNIN’–

For all the time that can be spent reading books and watching videos you don’t really start to learn until you get hands on. It is by actually doing something that you learn the essence of what it is.

Text books often only focus on the best case scenario. We’ve all watched TV shows of factories assembling motors simply slipping pistons into the cylinders and valves through the guide and thought we could do the same.

By doing we learn that everything is unique, everything acts and reacts in its own special way. We make mistakes and learn from them. We figure out how to avoid mistakes and how to correct them when they happen.

We also learn just how far we can push the envelope before it collapses on itself. In whipping up fibreglass rear fender for Mrs. Monkey’s bike I knew what I had to do but I also wasn’t sure that this new fender was the way I wanted to go. So I set out making mistake after mistake. Skipping a step here, combining a couple over there to see just how far I could get down the rabbit hole.

Turns out I could get sot far as long as I was in the ball park. I learnt what can be done. What causes mistakes and how to repair them. Going forward this knowledge will make future attempts that much better.

It is by doing that we learn how to accomplish in this world. Mistakes are just as important as the successes. It is because this world isn’t perfect and neither are we.

-bad Uncle Monkey

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY STILL OPEN–
A very old man lay dying in his bed. In death’s doorway, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookie wafting up the stairs.

He gathered his remaining strength and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort forced himself down the stairs, gripping the railing with both hands. With labored breath, he leaned against the door frame, gazing into the kitchen.

Were it not for death’s agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven. There, spread out on newspapers on the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favorite chocolate chip cookies.

Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted wife, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man? Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself toward the table. The aged and withered hand, shaking, made its way to a cookie at the edge of the table, when he was suddenly smacked with a spatula by his wife.

“Stay out of those,” she said. “They’re for the funeral.”

Every time I hear the dirty word ‘exercise’, I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

Late Model Sportster Bobber Solution

Anson,

Thanks so much for posting this tutorial. I have looked at a LOT of ECM relocation tutorials, and this one is the most practical by far. With your instructions, I was able to complete nearly all of the winter projects I had planned in a single afternoon.

I did things a little differently than you. Rather than taking out all of the bolts to remove the tray, I just got out a drill bit and drilled a bunch of little holes into the backside of the tray (VERY carefully so as to not puncture the oil tank behind it) until I could just yank out the area to be discarded.

After that, I was able to cram all of the pieces under the battery cover and zip tie it to keep it all in place. I wasn’t able to get the cover back into all of the brackets, but I connected the cover to the top two brackets, then zip tied at the top so the bottom was the part that was dangling free. Then I double zip tied the bottom bracket around the frame to keep it from moving around.

Thanks again for this tutorial. My bike looks way better with the aftermarket seat, and it is much more comfortable than the POS stock seat. Stay safe out there!

STURGIS MUSEUM NEWS, PAPPY HOEL SPEED CLASSIC– Flat Track Racing In Sturgis Comes Full Circle

Sturgis, South Dakota, March 16, 2017 – On a dusty summer day in 1938, local Indian motorcycle dealer J.C. Hoel set the wheels of history in motion when he promoted a flat track race at the Sturgis Fairgrounds. History comes full circle this year as the Pappy Hoel Speed Classic returns to the same historic dirt track where it all began. The event set for August 3-5, 2017 in downtown Sturgis kicks off a full week of racing during this year’s Rally.

“For Sturgis Rally founder J.C. ‘Pappy’ Hoel, the focus for the Rally was always on racing,” says Tigra Tsujikawa, Marketing & Development Director for the Sturgis Museum & Hall Of Fame. “From Johnny Spiegelhoff’s win on an Indian back in 1938 until today, flat track is an integral part of Sturgis history. We are honored to partner with the White Plate Motorcycle Club and Steve Nace Racing Promotions to present The Pappy Hoel Speed Classic, sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association.”

A full slate of racing with top Professional, Amateur and Vintage classes will be at the Sturgis Fairgrounds. As a three-time AMA Track Racing Organizer of the Year, Steve Nace Racing Promotions strives for perfection. “The objective of the AMA All-Star Series is to bring a professional show… we are known for having great tracks and rider safety is always our number one concern,” says Nace.

In 1938, the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club – coincidently founded by “Pappy” as the father of the Rally was affectionately known by racers and Rally goers alike – hosted a Gypsy Tour through South Dakota’s majestic Black Hills. The first “Black Hills Motor Classic” brought out 200 participants. Pappy and his wife, Pearl, provided camping behind their shop on Junction Avenue. “Weenies, Sloppy Joes, potato salad and watermelon for dessert, is what Pearl and the other Gypsies ladies served that first year,” says Tsujikawa. The riders washed their free meal down with iced tea or coffee, served in a tent behind the Hoel’s garage.

“The Pappy Hoel Speed Classic is the perfect way to start the 77th Sturgis Rally, but it is only part of the program,” she notes. Displays, entertainment, swap meet and more are being hosted by the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum throughout the week, culminating with the Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony presented by Strider Sports. “However, just like Pappy Hoel envisioned back in 1938, flat track racing is the focal point that brings it all together as we have come full circle.”

The Induction is being held August 9th at the Lodge at Deadwood in Deadwood, South Dakota. Breakfast tickets are available for a $45 donation, tables of eight for $350. Tickets are available by calling the Museum at 605.347.2001 or they can be purchased online at:

THIS DAY IS NUTS—
I lost a very important data base of photo codes. What the hell? Then the house phone quit.

On the other hand, we have content flying at us from Lindby, Biker’s Choice, Memphis Shades, Markus Cuff, the Bikernet Art Gallery and another Cantina Episode.

Just want to give you a taste of the lavish lifestyle surrounding the Bikernet Staff and Wilmington, California. Here is California you can be a hardworking stiff and get a DUI after a couple of beers with the bros. You’re life will be destroyed, but there’s hope.

They just passed a new law to help the homeless, so if you lose your job and become addicted to drugs Los Angeles will feed you and give you a home. Amazing.

More rumors about struggling magazines. We are waiting for reports from Daytona regarding Easyriders auction and other news regarding industry publications.

Hang on for constant action and Ride Free Forever.
