V-Twin Stunt Contest
In front of a standing-room only crowd of cheering fans, Bell Helmets Rider and Phoenix local, Tyler Heuertz (@TallBoyyTee) with his effortless-looking riding style, rode away victorious at the first stop of the 2018 “Bell Brawl”, a first of its kind, invite only, V-Twin specific motorcycle stunt contest at the Phoenix Bike Fest.
In total, ten highly talented stunt riders were given the opportunity to compete for the $2,500 prize purse, while displaying to the motorcycle community the increasingly popular sport of V-Twin motorcycle stunting. Carey Hart, Bell Helmets Rider and former FMX competitor, led the panel of judges alongside Danny Gorman and Kris Ganem.
“It was great to be a part of such a fun event,” noted Hart. “The riders were all throwing down hard! Reminds me of the old days of FMX. I really hope to see more of these events with Bell.”
Brett Conley, the Brand Marketing Manager/Culture for Bell continued, “When you take these super talented riders who are all on such a high level of riding and combined with the perfect venue Phoenix Bike Fest provids, everyone wins. What a great kick off to the triple crown of Bell Brawl events this was!”
Rounding out the podium were Dom Parrillo, also of Phoenix, in second place, and Phillip Hayes of San Diego in third place, both displaying amazing riding style and technique.
“The level of riding is mind-blowing these days,” mentioned Max Kuszaj of Ride and Destroy. “These riders are pushing the boundaries of what is possible on big-twin motorcycles, while focusing on style and technicality. It is such a raw, punk rock, style of motorcycle riding that everyone that enjoys two wheels need to witness first hand. I cannot wait for the next event.”

HELMETS NO LONGER MANDATORY– for turban-wearing Sikh motorcyclists in Alberta– Effective April 12, 2018, Sikhs over the age of 18 will be permitted to operate or be a passenger on a motorcycle without a helmet in Alberta.
The exemption follows similar amendments to traffic safety acts in British Columbia and Manitoba.
“The Sikh community has urged us to grant this exemption in recognition of its civil rights and religious expression,” said Brian Mason, Alberta’s Minister of Transportation in a statement. “Our government is committed to these principles.”
The province’s Traffic Safety Act is being amended to reflect the exemption.
Baltej Singh Dhillion, the first RCMP officer to wear a turban, applauds the move. “The decision by the Government of Alberta to allow Sikhs to be able to ride their motorcycles without having to remove their turbans, which is an integral part of the Sikh identity, demonstrates a deep respect for the traditions and customs of the Sikh community,” said Dhillon in a statement.
“This exemption is a testament to the Government of Alberta’s continued commitment to respecting diversity and religious rights of all Albertans.”
In 2014, Ontario announced it would not provide a helmet exemption to turban-wearing Sikhs.
Premier Kathleen Wynne outlined her reasoning in a letter to the Canadian Sikh Association. “After careful deliberation, we have determined that we will not grant this type of exemption as it would pose a road safety risk,” she wrote in the Aug. 14, 2014 letter. “Ultimately, the safety of Ontarians is my utmost priority, and I cannot justify setting that concern aside on this issue.”

TESLA RECALLS HALF OF ALL VEHICLES PRODUCED—Tesla announced last week a recall of almost half of all the vehicles the company has so far produced,” said Paul Eisenstein in NBCNews.com. The electric vehicle maker said 123,000 of its Model S sedans would be recalled because of an issue with corroding b olts leading to the loss of power steering—third time the Model S has been recalled since it came to market.
This seems to be a cold climate, salted roads problem, but adds to Tesla Production Problems.

DEADWOOD CASINOS TO IMPLEMENT ‘NO COLORS’ DURING STURGIS RALLY
Following a February 16 request from law enforcement for the South Dakota Commission on Gaming to ban colors in casinos during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the commission put the onus on the city of Deadwood and the individual gaming properties in coming up with a solution, tasking them with “taking the lead” to implement policies to monitor potential increased bike gang presence during Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Deadwood Gaming Association (DGA) Executive Director Mike Rodman briefed the commission on the industry’s response plan at the April 3 gaming commission meeting in Deadwood. “We believe that the best path forward to keep Deadwood safe is for each individual property to have their security and management teams work with the city of Deadwood and its safety officials on proper safety planning that takes their unique properties into consideration.
We do not believe there is a ‘one solution fits all’ approach that would be effective overall,” said Rodman in a letter to South Dakota Commission on Gaming Executive Director Larry Eliason.
The letter was drafted in response to correspondence from Eliason requesting proposals from the city and the industry as to how they would proceed to comply with the commission’s directive.
The commission asked for a list of DGA member casinos that will and won’t allow colors during the Rally.

COLORADO OFFICE OF THE DEAD CROWS–Just a reminder to watch out for crows (and all the other road hazards out there!)…
The Colorado D. O. T. found over 200 dead crows on the highways recently and the was an Avian Flu concern.
A pathologist examined all the remains and to everyone’s relief confirmed that that was not the issue.
The cause of death appeared to be from vehicular impacts. During the examinations note was made of the types and colors of the paint found on the remains.
When analyzing the residue or wad found that a disproportionate number of the crows were killed by impact with motorcycles – approximately 98%.
The D.O.T. hired an ornithological behaviorist to determine if there was an overriding cause for this finding.
She quickly determined that when eating road kill there was always a “lookout” crow posted.
While all the lookouts could say “cah”, not a single one could say “bike”.

FROM THE MOTORCYCLE PROFILING PROJECT–Daytona Beach News Journal Falsely Reports Bikers Kill Children.
The Daytona Beach News Journal (News Journal) is disrespectfully using the anniversary of a biker’s murder as an opportunity to promote a discriminatory and highly inaccurate stereotype about motorcycle clubs, even going so far as quoting an investigator from Wisconsin saying that motorcycle club members have a history of killing children.
The National Council of Clubs, a movement representing the political, legal, and legislative interests of motorcycle clubs nationwide, is outraged that any media source would desecrate the memory of a man that lost his life prematurely by irresponsibly propagating fear and false narratives about tens of thousands of individuals that belong to motorcycle clubs.
The Story as Published in the Daytona Beach News Journal
Outlaw MC member Louie Da’ Lip was murdered in Daytona Beach on April 2, 2017.
The News Journal released an article on April 2, 2018 titled, “1 year later, murder of Daytona Outlaws biker ‘Louie da Lip’ remains unsolved.” But instead of merely reporting on the facts of Louie’s murder, the News Journal used the 1 year anniversary of this incident to spread fear and sensationalized falsehoods regarding motorcycle club culture. The News Journal reports:
“Members of biker gangs have committed murder, rape and other violent crimes and they have a history of degrading women and even killing children, said Charles Berard, a criminal investigator from Wisconsin who has studied biker gangs for more than three decades.”
The above quote is so highly inaccurate and offensive that it’s printing alone should disqualify Mr. Berard and the News Journal’s credibility. To imply that motorcycle clubs have a history of killing children is as far from the truth as possible. There is a fundamental and foundational principle among members of motorcycle club culture that crimes against children are absolutely not tolerated.
Basic research by the News Journal would have revealed that even qualified law enforcement experts recently testifying in trials in Waco and San Antonio recognize that motorcycle clubs will not allow members that have committed crimes against children and that committing a crime against a child is grounds for expulsion from the club. Indeed, there are dozens of motorcycle clubs such as Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) that are dedicated to the mission of protecting children.
On the other hand, law enforcement officers do truly have a long and irrefutable history relating to crimes against children and women. The Associated Press recently reported 1,000 cases of sex crimes committed by police, including sex crimes against children. The State of Florida is not exempt. Consider the recent conviction of a Florida cop for statutory rape while on duty. And in terms of law enforcement killing children, there is simply not enough time or space to discuss even the most recent incidents that have happened coast to coast, including Florida.
Motorcycle club members, by comparison, have far less propensity to commit felony crimes. Have some members of motorcycle clubs been convicted of felony crimes? Most certainly. But, just as the egregious acts of some police officers do not define the whole, the vast majority of motorcycle club members, including 1%’ERS, do not have criminal records. The sensationalized hype is simply not true.
What do the available statistics reveal? The 2017 National Motorcycle Profiling Survey, with only a 1.4% margin of error, demonstrates that less than 2% of club members in Florida have been convicted of a felony crime.
The News Journal should be admonished for irresponsible and one-sided tabloid reporting. Louie Da’ Lip’s memory should be respected with dignity. His murder should not be, must not be, used for the purpose of spreading fear and sensationalism. This fear is, in-turn, being used to justify the current epidemic of profiling and discrimination targeting motorcycle clubs, particularly in Daytona Beach.
Professional ethics would dictate that the News Journal cease taking an active role in law enforcement’s campaign of discrimination and begin to responsibly report balanced and researched journalism relating to motorcycle clubs.

CLIMATE CHANGE EXTREME–David Buckel: US lawyer sets himself on fire in climate protest.
A prominent US lawyer has died after setting himself on fire in a New York park in a protest against climate change.
The remains of David Buckel, 60, were found in Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
In a suicide note found nearby, Mr Buckel wrote that he had immolated himself using fossil fuel to symbolise what he said was the damage human beings were doing to the Earth.
“My early death by fossil fuel reflects what we are doing to ourselves,” he said.

BAD COP FILES–Deputy gets house arrest for stealing pills from dead man
WEST PALM BEACH – A former Florida deputy accused of stealing prescription medications from a dead man’s home after Hurricane Irma has been sentenced to a year of house arrest.
The Palm Beach Post reported that 36-year-old Jason Cooke pleaded guilty Friday to burglary and petit theft as part of deal with prosecutors.
Authorities said Palm Beach County deputies went to an 85-year-old man’s Boynton Beach home for a wellness check on Sept. 12, two days after the storm made landfall in Florida. The man was found collapsed in the bedroom and later died at a nearby hospital.
Later that day, the man’s son received an alert from the home’s motion detector. Surveillance footage showed Cooke, who wasn’t with the deputies that responded earlier, enter the home through the garage. Authorities said Cooke took pain pills, muscle relaxers and anti-psychotic medication.
Ex-Texas congressman Stockman convicted of fraud, conspiracy
A federal jury convicted a former GOP congressman from Texas of fraud and conspiracy Thursday for misusing charitable donations to pay for personal and political expenses.
The jury found that Steve Stockman worked with staffers to bilk conservative foundations out of at least $775,000. A campaign worker and an aide have pleaded guilty to various charges. Stockman, 61, could face decades in prison at sentencing in August.

300–Through it all, it lets the good times roll
Ever since Canadian-born French explorer Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville chose the swampy, flood-prone bend in the lower Mississippi River as the spot for a new French colony in 1718, New Orleans has been a roller coaster of historical events.
Nouvelle-Orléans , as it was originally known, was ruled by three countries in less than a century — France, Spain and America — and swelled with Caribbean, European and African immigrants. It endured outbreaks of yellow fever, slave uprisings, river floods and one debilitating hurricane after another. The most recent big one, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, submerged 80% of the city, led to about 1,400 deaths and threatened the city’s very existence.
This year, New Orleans, birthplace of jazz and jambalaya, celebrates its survival from three centuries of tumult with a 300th birthday party filled with exhibitions, panel discussions, street parades and parties. Throughout the city, large “300” signs have been set up in plazas and parks, each big enough for visitors to snap pictures beside.
Sean Cummings, a hotelier and entrepreneur, said the tricentennial is as much a tribute to the city’s resilience as it is to its existence.
“For me, it’s a (sign) that something here works,” he said. “It’s lasted for 300 years, and New Orleans has managed to be not only part of the physical landscape as an American city but in many ways part of the poetic landscape.”
The city that today is New Orleans almost wasn’t. British explorers nearly claimed the area for themselves, and even the 18th-century aristocrats in Paris originally wanted their French outpost in Biloxi or farther upriver near modern-day Baton Rouge.
Only Bienville’s machinations brought New Orleans to its present spot. After surviving disease, starvation and storms, New Orleans in the 19th century became a thriving center of commerce, reaping profits from cotton, banking, slaves, and anything that floated up or down the Mississippi, said Lawrence Powell, a Tulane University historian and author of The Accidental City: Improvising New Orleans.
By 1840, New Orleans was the thirdlargest banking center in the U.S., behind only New York and Baltimore, he said. “There was a time when this town was practically the center of the universe,” Powell said.
New Orleans, like the rest of the nation, was gripped by World War I during the city’s 200th anniversary in 1918 and didn’t roll out much of a celebration. This year, expect the city to throw a true party, he said. “Three hundred years is a pretty good run,” Powell said.
There will be street performances at Congo Square, where slaves would meet and dance to beating drums; displays of 18th-century artifacts and documents explaining the city’s founding; and a tricentennial fireworks show.
More than anything, the city will be celebrating the various groups and cultures that have descended onto New Orleans over the years and forged its uniqueness, said Steven Bingler, a New Orleans architect and urban planner.
Each new wave of immigrants to the city brought with them their food, music and architecture. Spanish settlers in the late 18th and early 19th centuries used local ingredients to morph their beloved paella into jambalaya.
They filled the French Quarter, the city’s oldest neighborhood, with homes decorated with ornate wrought-iron balconies and courtyards, more akin to homes in Havana and Sevilla than anything found in the U.S., Bingler said. “Almost every art form in New Orleans is connected to an earlier era,” he said.
Into the 20th and 21st centuries, New Orleans struggled through waves of economic depression, blistering storms and a steady brain drain of its educated class. Hurricane Katrina infused billions of dollars into the economy and led to significant flood protection and public school improvements.
Still, the economy appears stalled, job growth is slowing, and the poverty rate still lingers around 24% — nearly double the U.S. average, according to the Brookings Institution. Murders and violent crime also remain challenges.
None of that seemed to matter to Benny Jones Sr., leader of the Treme Brass Band, on a recent Tuesday night as he readied his musicians for a gig at d.b.a.’s on Frenchmen Street. Jones, 74, has been playing traditional New Orleans music in his Sixth Ward neighborhood since before he was a teenager.
Jones said he never thought he’d live to see the city’s 300th birthday. But now that it’s here, he plans to praise it right.
“It’s going to be a party,” he said. “And it’s going to be big.”

Several reports now indicate that technology companies are providing police with ways to unlock an iPhone, the most secure of all popular mobile devices. Agencies have complained that Apple has prevented them from accessing iPhones during their investigations and say they have no other options.
Android phones have always been less of a problem to unlock because there are many more manufacturers with varying levels of the Android OS, the apps are less secure, and most of the phones rarely get updated when a vulnerability is found. That was noted earlier this week when it was reported that Facebook scraped Android phone users’ phone and message logs.
Apple has also taken the greatest care among the leading device manufacturers to protect its customers’ confidentiality. One of their arguments for not providing a backdoor to unlock their phones has been that once their phones are susceptible to being unlocked, that capability will be used not only by law enforcement agencies, but also by criminals, putting their customers at risk.

MOST EXPENSIVE WATCH IN MONTANA–20 Years of American Watchmaking
We create vintage inspired timepieces from the turn-of-the-century to mid century. And – we do it way up here in Montana. 90% of our clientele never even walk through our door or have the opportunity to see our cool ittle studio on Main Street in Livingston. The first decade in business primarily existed of phone calls and snail mail photographs back and forth from prospective clients.
As we begin to celebrate our 20th year in business – email, Instagram and Facebook tend to lead the way for communication of our micro brand. People, turns out, really like photographs. And they really, really like photographs of real people wearing watches. So while we stay true to who we are, slowly building each and every watch with meticulous care, we also embrace the present.
So this is our request to you, we would love to see photographs of our watches on your wrists. We don’t care if the lighting is perfect or the photo is crystal clear. We want to see where our watches live. We would be honored see our history played out through your pictures and we would be grateful for any assistance in this project. Motorbike Oil Cabinet by LIQUI MOLY–Those who deal with lots of different lubricants know the problem: Opened oil cans and canisters are scattered throughout the entire garage. LIQUI MOLY is now introducing a solution to the market that ensures order and cleanliness: the Motorbike Oil Cabinet.
This is a metal cabinet, which can be hung on the wall. Three 20 liter canisters as well as 18 one liter containers fit inside it. The large canisters are laid down in the cabinet so that the oil can be comfortably taken via the tap and the canisters do not have to be moved. Should some happen to drip it will land in the pull-out oil drip pan.

ANOTHER GUN NUT REPORT–Today, I placed my Glock pistol on the table right next to my front door. I left its clip beside it, then left it alone and went about my business.While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor’s son across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the “stop” sign near the front of my house.
After about an hour, I checked on the gun and it was quietly sitting there, right where I had left it. It had not moved itself outside. It had not killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do that. In fact, it had not even loaded itself.
Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the hype by the Left and the media, about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people. Either the media is wrong, or I’m in possession of the laziest gun in the world.
The United States is 3rd in murders throughout the world. But if you take out just 5 ‘left-wing’ cities: Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, St Louis, and New Orleans — the United States is 4th from the bottom, in the ENTIRE world, for murders.
Those 5 cities are controlled by Democrats. They also have the toughest gun control laws in the USA. It would be absurd to draw any conclusions from this data, right? Well, I’m off to check on my spoons. I hear they’re making people fat!

SOMETIMES I WONDER?—I’m talking to my Grandson about Global Warming and look into his questioning eyes.
I talked to a young girl about abortion, when her boyfriend is 45 and his kids are almost grown. Talk about two different prospectives.
It’s all so interesting and daunting. Each element holds compelling factors. Who can fault someone for trying to save the planet? But should they lie about their intentions, methods and torture humanity today over something that won’t happen in the future.
Think about it. What else in life wants to control your actions today around threats to your life after death. Hang on. Folks just seem to want to control other folks for power or financial gain. Interesting.
That’s the reason this country was founded, to put freedom today first.
