HANG ON 2019 IS COMING BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS

Hey,

Hang On another year is screaming at us. I could talk about all the new things flying at Bikernet. We are changing the format some, trying to slow down and hoping for the best. If you’re not a Cantina member please consider joining.

We are also husltling on the Salt Torpedo, our next Bonneville effort. I hope to launch another report tomorrow morning. We may be working on two books next year and still contributing to Cycle Source.

But beyond all our projects, the MRF has a serious list of goals for 2019 to keep motorcycling strong. I always ask that you join a Motorcycle Rights Organization, national or local, just join and support for our future.

The President of the United States has major goals ahead of him. Some folks don’t like him, but I believe he’s working very hard for us. I watched a debate on immigration last night. It was fascinating. Unfortunately our media doesn’t portray the issue like the experts do, so we think there’s something wrong with any immigration effort, but that’s not the case at all. And where our government hasn’t had the balls to step up to this issue, the President does.

Here’s my set of goals for our government and the President. Each one would change our lives substantially for the better, but will anyone step up? Let’s see:

Tort Reform: We need to reduce our sue- happy society. Unfortunately our government is run by attorneys. Probably won’t happen. If it did our wages would increase, jobs would increase and profits would increase.

TSA: The TSA has ruined our travel experience and cost taxpayers billions every year for a bucket full of pocket knives. There are technologies available, which would eliminate this intrusion into our lives. I don’t want all these guys and gals to lose their jobs and I have a plan for a very positive outcome.

And finally, another major effort, that should have been addresses 30 some years ago: Infrastructure for a growing population. We need more and doubled-up roads. They want to blame everything on Global Warming when the earth is cooling and we experience fewer storms. But they don’t want citizens to drive comfortably to work. It’s backwards, but what the hell I’m left-handed. Maybe that’s why I dream of a better country for our hard-working tax paying citizens.

Let’s hit the news and work for a better America, riding free and Bonneville Records.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. Most recently the Smoke Out and Quick Throttle Magazine came on board.

PETERSEN MUSEUM ACTION–Auto-Didactic: The Juxtapoz School
Armand Hammer Foundation Gallery

Prior to the introduction of Juxtapoz Magazine, artists working within a variety of genres outside of the mainstream tastes of the fine art world were often marginalized by reigning cultural institutions, if not completely ignored. Auto-Didactic highlights the works of a few of these artists with roots in automotive culture. Challenge your perceptions with this compelling display!

FEW HAL ROBINSON’S LEFT—We still have some limited edition prints and T-shirts available. The Easyriders Empire told us we couldn’t sell Hal’s work so we are forced to shut down this effort, but we have some time before I’m shackled and dragged to the Paisano Publication’s dungeon.

Don’t knock on the gate. I may not answer it.

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE MOON—It causes global warming and the earth’s spin because of the gravitational pull. Unfortunately every year is spins slightly farther from the earth and the gravitational pull decreases. In a billion years we will quit spinning so fast and start to wobble. We’ll be fucked. But your mom’s SUV or your gas-powered chopper won’t have anything to do with it.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT WITH NEW H-D TECHNOLOGY– Increase visibility at night, in hard weather conditions and even in daylight with the 7 in. Daymaker Adaptive LED Headlamp (P/N 67700426 or 67700427, $849.95*).

The 7-inch Daymaker™ Adaptive LED headlamp combines advanced motorcycle headlight performance with modern styling. The projector-style LED offers superior punch and spread with a pure white light that produces a “Daylight Color Impression” that appears more natural to the user and is conspicuous in traffic. The signature LED light outer ring operates as a position lamp.

The most-advanced headlamp system ever developed for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle utilizes patented sensors and electronics integrated into the headlamp to determine lean angle of the motorcycle and automatically projects additional light into corners to illuminate areas of the road that may be unlit by traditional LED headlamps. Extensive engineering and testing was completed on the lamp to ensure every part of the road in front of the rider is equally lit. The adaptive light feature works in both the high- and low-beam functions.

The night-time beam pattern is focused on the road ahead and is engineered to reduce wasted light that can impact oncoming traffic. The solid-state LEDs are designed for long life and low energy draw, and installation of the shock and vibration-resistant lamp assembly is quick and easy with a plug-in connection to the factory headlamp wiring.

The 7-inch Daymaker Adaptive LED headlamps feature a top-mount low beam, a large bottom-mount projector high beam, two additional D-shaped lenses, an outer signature ring and 12 adaptive lights and is offered in Black or Chrome finish. It fits 2009-later Touring models (except Road Glide), 2012-2016 Switchback™ and 2004-2017 Softail® models with a 7-inch headlamp. DOT and ECE compliant for all markets.

NEWS FROM THE CLIMATE DEPOT–With five days left in the year, The Weather Channel reported that the United States will finish with the fewest tornado deaths on record, should no tornadoes touch down and create fatalities before January 1.

And should no EF4/5 tornadoes hit the U.S. in the next five days, it would mark the first time that none have hit in a calendar year since that record began in 1950, according to the Washington Post.

NEW BIKERNET AND BANDIT’S CANTINA PROGRAMS FOR 2019

To keep Bikernet moving forward in the New Year, we’ve shuffled things around a bit. We have decided to shut down all major advertising sales and will move all of Bikernet’s impressive library and 24 years of archived editorial content into Bandit’s Cantina, Bikernet’s subscription-supported section.

We will however keep the Bikernet Blog active daily and accessible for free. All major content will be expanded into the Cantina.

So, from a business side here’s how it will work for the New Year. We will continue to build great content featuring the Weekly News, a variety of features and tech articles.

Our readers can stay abreast of all the action on Bikernet by joining the Cantina for as little as $24 yearly or $39 for two years. They will also receive a special package containing an assortment of Bikernet goodies and bling.

Industry members, if you’d like us to keep supporting your company and promote your products, events or services with editorials, we will do so for a mere $98 a year. Keep sending your press releases and we will take care of them.

For the company that wants to reach all 50,000 Bikernet readers and Bandit’s Cantina subscribers 24/7 (plus a 2 million social media reach) your ad will be placed on our Blog page and your banner will accompany any and all of your company’s content. Just $165 a month. This also means all of your company content is archived on Bikernet for the duration working 24/7 and supported with your banner ad.

All the best for 2019

NEWS FROM 5-BALL RACING LEATHERS—We shipped a 3X Jak Shirt to Gina, for her husband, but it still wasn’t big enough. “Lol, yep…6’4, broad shoulders, long arms, maybe a little gut… finding shoes is even worse! He loves the shirt, the density of the leather, everything about it!” Said Gina.

“BTW, he really appreciated all the extras, he was 14 when a neighbor gave him a stack of early era Easyriders magazines, back in the Spider/Miraculous Mutha days.”

We are going to switch out the 3X for a 4X as soon as we receive the 3X back. No extra charge.–Bandit

NEWS FROM THE FLY OVER STATES HEADQUARTERS–Pride
Lately it’s been posited on the news that nationalism, “a sense of national consciousness” according to Merriam-Webster, is a negative. We differ, with intent.

We think a national consciousness is the very thing America needs now, the very binding agent that brings us together as a nation, as a culture, as a family and as a beacon of freedom to the majority of the people on this planet who live in terror, slavery and political bondage of one form or another.

We have enormous national pride. We are proud of America and what this great nation, our great nation, has achieved, and will achieve in the future. And while we cherish our allies, and as in the past, would be there with everything we’ve got if they ever faced a hostile force, we are also proud and staunch nationalists and we put America first.

We are the FOS.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT LESSON—You know the earth is full of magma under the surface. At the center it’s as hot as the sun. There is always pressure building under the surface and it forms zits or volcanoes on the outter shell. They pop from time to time.

Some 600 million years ago the earth was covered with ice and the seas were frozen. Life was almost completely gone. But ultimately the surface of the earth was saved by the heat of volcanoes and when they popped they emitted mass amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. Without that CO2 life would not exist.

Unfortunately all the SUVs in the world could not even come close to doing that.–Bandit

MORE TRAILBLAZERS NEWS-– JERRY GREER R.I.P.

Jerry Greer passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack on Monday, December 17th. Son, Tom, said he lost his true mentor and a motivator like no other. Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Jerry had a full life. He was schooled in Aeronautical Engineering and Aviation Management, but his life centered on motorcycles. He came to California in the late 1960’s. He freelanced for Cycle News magazine while racing in Adelanto, Huntington Beach and later, Corona.

Jerry raced Flat Track mostly and was frequently on the podium in the lightweight (250) Amateur/Semi-Pro events. He raced, and still won through the mid 1980’s. Jerry restored motorcycles, favoring Maico’s. In 1982, his Maico got a 4th at the Houston TT and a 5th at the Ascot TT.

In the early ‘80s Jerry got interested in Craig Vetter’s motorcycle – mileage contests. He was full of knowledge and humor and shared it with his family, friends and on Facebook. Jerry is racing on the big track in the sky and will be truly missed. Jerry leaves his wife Jan, two sons, Jeff and Thomas, and a large extended family.

Both sons have grandchildren. There will be a private service on Friday and a memorial around the 2nd week in January. Tom will post it on Facebook when they have it set up. The family says thanks to all for your support and kind words.

OLD SCHOOL TT SCRAMBLES RACING SEASON OPENER AND 2018 AWARDS PRESENTATION

SATURDAY, JANUARY 12, 2019

The bikes have barely cooled off and another season of really fun racing is to begin. They have added another class to the event. It sounds like a blast. It is called “Masters of Momentum”, a vintage 125cc Challenge Series. To quote their flyer, “To make things easy, we’ve broken it down into just two classes: Vintage (1975 and older) and Post Vintage (1976 to 1983), air-cooled and drum brakes bikes only. One of the great things about bikes from this era is that they can be picked up for some reasonable prices, so adding a 125 to your quiver is cheap to do. There’s nothing quite like the starting gate of a 125 race: the smell of bean oil, and the sound of a thousand angry bees.. so come join us and see if YOU are a Master! www.oldschoolscramblesracing.com Takes place at Glen Helen Raceway.

FROM RIDER MAGAZINE–2019 Triumph Street Scrambler Review

By Jenny Smith

The lion’s share of the Street Scrambler’s power bump is in the mid-to-high-end, making highway passes easier and reducing the need to downshift in corners.

Triumph’s 2017 Street Scrambler, powered by the 900cc “high-torque” parallel twin used in the Street Twin, rolled into the gap left by the departure of the previous generation Scrambler two years ago. With less weight, more power and a slightly modernized look, it has proven to be a popular choice in Triumph’s modern classic line, and for 2019 it has received a refresh that includes a bump in mid-range power, a new cartridge-style fork and a Brembo front brake.

As its name suggests, the Street Scrambler is primarily a road-going machine (those looking for more than just light off-roading adventures should give the all-new Scrambler 1200 a hard look), and after riding it and its Street Twin sibling (which received similar changes this year) back-to-back at the press launch in Portugal, the Street Scrambler’s upright, commanding riding position proved to be well-suited to navigating the urban jungle.

For 2019, the Street Scrambler gets more power, better suspension and brakes, new ride modes and a light style refresh.

ALWAYS HAPPENING—I’m a lucky mofo, always have been. Twice I left Easyriders. The first time was over drugs. My boss Lou Kimzey was a great guy and my mentor, but he was slipping down a bad path and it was time to check out for awhile and try something new. It was the only time in my life I backed away from motorcycles for five years.

I came back in ’87 to a new biker world and rocked with it until ’99, when I was the executive VP and responsible for 14 titles, videos, you name it. The company went public and I decided to step away and semi-retire.

I have never been a big money-maker, but I love to accomplish stuff and I’ve been very lucky to always be able to do so. This year was packed with accomplishments and I dig it, from making a steel sculpture for a Sturgis Charity effort to the mural on the side of the building.  I need two quiet weeks for finish a screenplay and with the help of another Hamster, I’m working on a bronze sculpture for another charity effort. Hell, I built another bike, the amazing Panhead bobber, which I might sell to help support our Bonneville effort.

Maybe I should write another life and times of Bandit. I’m thinking about the new year and what we can do to rock our year from start to finish.

And remember two things. Ride Free Forever, and everything will be all right in the end. If it’s not all right, it’s not the end.
