STAY CALM BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for September 30, 2021

Hey,

My son sent me a documentary about the Great Reset. I started to watch it, then stopped—too depressing. I called him and said, “If it’s going in that direction only one thing to do. Let’s Party!

Actually, there are two things, fight back and let’s party, but no one wants to fight back, so let’s party until the end.

Let’s hit the news.

NEW CALIFORNIA SMOG REQUIREMENTS—
We recently received a query from an ADVRider reader asking whether a new California regulation applies to motorcycles. The regulation in question requires vehicles to pass a biennial smog check. While that part of the regulation is not new, it does add some new requirements that could be of significant interest to enthusiasts. So, we decided to check on the reader’s question.

Smog check
As amended, the new reg states that model year 1996 or newer vehicles with an ECU that’s not approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) will automatically fail the California biennial smog check.

As of July 19th, 2021, the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) is expanding the smog check test to accommodate the regulation. The new procedure will check that each ECU is running factory software or a CARB-approved ECU tune. If the vehicle is running software that does not meet these criteria, it will fail the smog check. A failure means that the vehicle cannot be registered or renewed until the ECU is brought into compliance.

In addition, any aftermarket computer device like the ECU or an inline tuner must have an Executive Order (EO) number that is CARB approved.

Are motorcycles affected?
So now that we know what California thinks and does about modified ECUs, we turn to the question of whether the new regulation pertains to motorcycles. And with a little research, we’ve found that it does not. Clicking on to CARB’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, we see that motorcycles have been specifically exempted from the new California smog check regulation.

Actually, there’s a long list of vehicles that do not require a biennial smog check. They are as follows:

Gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and alternative-fuel vehicles that are model-year 1975 and older.

Gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and alternative-fuel vehicles that are eight model years and newer do not require a biennial Smog Check.

Gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and alternative-fuel vehicles that are four model years and newer do not require a change-of-ownership Smog Check.

Diesel-powered vehicles that are model-year 1997 and older.

Diesel-powered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 14,000 pounds.

Electric-powered vehicles.
Motorcycles.
Why are motorcycles exempt from the smog check?
There’s no rationale given for why motorcycles have been exempted. It’s interesting because some governments are targeting motorcycles in other parts of the world due to the sheer number of two-wheelers on the road. With California having the strictest smog regulations in the USA, you must wonder why the state has decided to exempt them.

Peter Wade, fantastic hack for the brilliant Rolling Stone Whateveritis, is saying that Texas is throwing the US Constitution into the trash by…..get this…..denying Haitian illegal invaders their rights under the US Constitution.

“Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan to crack down on undocumented immigration across the U.S.-Mexico border has led to the arrests of hundreds of migrants who are now languishing in Texas prisons, often without being charged with a crime or assigned legal representation in violation of both their constitutional rights and Texas state law.”

XDA Champions will be crowned at DME Racing Fall Nationals–Two wheels, one mission, defeat the competition and secure the crown.

On October 8-10 the XDA concludes its motorcycle drag racing season at Maryland International Raceway with the 29th annual DME Racing Fall Nationals.

In the seventh and final battle of the year, sixteen classes and over 700 racers will be armed and ready as they compete for the 2021 XDA Championship titles and $85,000 in cash purse.

The DME Racing Fall Nationals will feature 6-second, 220+mph Pro Street Motorcycles, 7-second, 190mph Real Street bikes, 3-second 1/8 mile Pro Xtreme motorcycles, and the “Running of the Bulls” Grudge Shootouts.

And to end the season with a bang, XDA is offering up mo’ money to their sportsman racers with a $10K to win MPS Racing Pro ET race on Sunday! The class will feature a guaranteed $14,300 total payout, with double-entries permitted in Pro ET. Riders MUST enter their second entry on a different bike with a different bike number, no exceptions.

The vendor midway will be full of great deals on motorcycle parts, accessories, and apparel. And the Saturday night corn-hole tournaments are still the place to be on Saturday night at the track.

Orient Express Racing Pro Street

Next weekend the Orient Express Pro Street class will turn up the dial on the country’s quickest and fastest 650+ horsepower Pro Street motorcycles. For the last nine years, the Pro Street championship chase came down to the season’s final event. But Rodney Williford has put an end to that streak by clinching the championship at the Bike Brawl earlier this month with a 206 point lead over #2 Justin Shakir. Jason Dunigan, Greg Wallace, and Gaige Herrera follow to round out the top five in points.

And just because the championship has been decided, that doesn’t mean the battle is over. Pro Street racers will also be fighting for a top ten finish to qualify for the chance to compete in front of 40,000+ fans at the 25th annual Haltech World Cup Finals presented by Wiseco on November 3-7, 2021.

The exclusive Platinum General Services Pro Street Shootout at WCF offers a $5,000 to win purse. The top four riders are already locked in for a spot, while eight other racers will battle it out for the remaining six spots.

Darion Payne who currently sits in the #8 spot for WCF, is in serious jeopardy of being bumped out. Payne will miss the XDA finals to celebrate his wife Tonisha’s birthday. “Making my wife happy is worth it,” was Payne’s response when we asked him about potentially missing the WCF event.

Kenny Brewer, Jamie Lopes, Curtis Brown, Ryan Bonitatis, Ricky Wood, and James Waugh will be ready to capitalize on Tonisha’s happiness as they battle for one of the remaining spots.

XDA is also looking forward to seeing the Midwest racers of Brett Ware, Brad Christian, Rudy Sanzottera, and Jamie Hendricks at the DME Racing Fall Nationals for the first time this season.

DME Racing Real Street

The DME Racing Real Street class will be a pressure cooker as Mark Hylton and David Stewart battle for the championship. Hylton currently has a mere twenty-point lead on Stewart. Stewart has had three wins this season, and Hylton has had two. These are two well-matched competitors as the season finale approaches.

Brittany Bohne is in her first full season of Real Street and will finish in the top five in points. She is currently holding on to the #4 spot, one point ahead of Ralphie Navarro.

Another rookie, Trevor Schnitz, will finish in the top of ten for his first competition season. This season, Schnitz took a runner-up finish and has also been a fierce contender in HTP Performance Super Stock and several sportsman classes.

Real Street is a great class to make that next step if you are looking to enter the Pro ranks. Make plans to be at MDIR next weekend.

HTP Performance Super Stock

The HTP Performance Super Stock championship is also locked down by last year’s champion David Fondon. Fondon won the 2021 inaugural season by a respectable sixty-three-point lead. And this year, he is crushing the class with a 347 point lead! And the credit all goes to Fondon’s riding ability because he has taken wins on three different motorcycles this season. Fondon has ridden a Kawasaki ZX-10R, a BMW S1000RR, and a Kawasaki ZX-14. It has been impressive to watch Fondon at work this season.

Jy’rec Givens and Mike Davis are both sitting tied in the #2 spot. Along with Curtis McDougald and Derek Sobiech, these four will be battling for the second-place spot next weekend. Last year Givens finished the season in the #5 spot, so he would like to improve this year and hold onto that #2 position.

Maxx ECU Pro Xtreme

We are in the third year of the eighth-mile heads-up class of MaxxECU Pro Xtreme featuring the Turbocharged, Supercharged, and Nitrous Injected wheelie-bar drag bikes. Kevin Clarke and Travis Davis are the previous class champions and will be joined by Chris Garner-Jones as the new class champion.

Jones has already clinched the 2021 championship with a one hundred and seventy-eight point lead. This year, Jones also reset the ET record with a 3.897 pass at the Platinum Fleet Repair season opener. Out of the six races already contested, Jones has taken five wins. So regardless of what happens next weekend, it’s been a good year for Jones.

John Collins sits in the number two spot, and Rob Garcia is the only racer who can take that away. But what we really need to watch for next weekend are the performance numbers. With the fall air setting in and the first October race for XDA, the stage is set for real performance numbers.

MaxxECU Pro Xtreme is presented by Ace Mechanical, Billy Vose Racing, Dallas Flat Glass, Dunigan Racing, DME Racing, Grothus Dragbikes, Harley Haul, Rob Bush Motorsports, Robinson Industries, Schnitz Racing, Timblin Chassis, and Worldwide Bearings.

HTP Performance Grudge

The HTP Performance Grudge classes will be hooking up at the finals with their last chance to earn points and flex their performance on the best-prepped grudge surface around. Saturday night will be electric as the XDA Bull riders turn on win lights as they attempt to earn a few more points for a championship.

APE Nitrous Bulls

APE Nitrous Bulls is the only grudge class that already has the championship determined. Russell Dennison Jr on ‘Jimmy Hendricks’ tuned by Dave Norris officially locked down his 2021 championship at the Bike Brawl. In 2019 Dave Norris won this same championship on the very same bike. This team will still be looking for real competition next week while they celebrate success.

3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls

The 3 Sixty 5 Monster Bulls championship is wide-open. The 2020 class champion David Page on ‘Pickin Pockets’ leads the class by three points. David Martin and Jason Herron follow Page in points, but all three competitors have an equal chance to win the championship next weekend. For the past three years, Martin has been one step behind Page in points, so next weekend, he will need to hit the override button if he wants to finally get out in front.

Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls

The inaugural season of Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls has been a success with twenty-nine riders showing up to play games. Duane Jackson on ‘Miss Behavin’ has a six-point lead over the class. But the top five riders in points all have a chance to win the championship next weekend at MDIR. Those riders include Geoff Godfrey, Cody Lowe, Desmond Spalding, and Edward Thomas.

Vance & Hines 4.60

The Vance & Hines 4.60 eighth-mile class showcases the fiercest Sportsman around. Their reaction times and their dead on eighth-mile times make them the most exciting sportsman class to watch from Friday through Sunday. And currently leading the helm is the 2020 class champion, Ronald Procopio. Procopio is presently leading by forty-one points over his seventy-eight competitors.

The top seven racers in the points chase still have a chance to knock Procopio out and take the throne. And six of those competitors have made final round appearances this year. Except for Broderick Jackson, so is Jackson due for a final next weekend? If Jackson takes his first win, and Procopio takes a round one loss, it will be the upset of the season! In this class anything and everything can happen come Sunday. Make plans to be there for the action.

1 Stop Speed 5.60

The 1 Stop Speed 5.60 is led by Dustin Lee, who has officially clinched the championship to defend his 2020 title. With a two hundred and eighteen point lead, Lee can start the celebrating early while the rest of the class battles for a top ten plate.

Carson Fields will be looking over his shoulder as he tries to hold onto that #2 spot. Nick Noble, Jimmie Miller, Nick Hamlet, and Duane Jackson are in striking distance to take Fields out of the #2 spot.

Barry Pryer Sr sits seventh in points but has been on a winning hot streak; another win could land him the number two spot. The Sunday battle in this eighth-mile class will be a furious fight from the starting line to the 660′.

Mickey Thompson Tires Top Sportsman

Mickey Thompson Top Sportsman will see the quickest sportsman racers on the property go to battle next weekend. Jefferey Santin’s points lead in this class has been shrinking and now only has the lead by one point. Six additional racers have the mathematical chance for the championship at the DME Racing Fall Nationals. Bobby Holland, Robin Procopio, Dustin Lee, George Shriver, Norman Teal, and Pablo Gonzalez are in championship contention.

Procopio and Lee are both previous class champions and know the way to this championship very well. Gonzalez won the last two events and is on a hot winning streak; however, those wins were at Virginia Motorsports Park. Can he win at MDIR? You have to be there to watch the action!

MPS Racing Pro ET

Jefferey Santin leads the MPS Racing Pro ET by sixty-one points over 264 competitors. Santin has four key competitors he needs to stay in front of next weekend. Dustin Lee, Duane Jackson, Dale Hamilton, and Nick Hamlett.

You have seen these names many times in the winner’s circle, which means next weekend is not going to be an easy task for Santin. It’s going to be a slugfest at the DME Racing Fall Nationals in this category with $10,000 up for grabs that you won’t want to miss.

Brock’s Performance Street ET

The Brock’s Performance Street ET class has seen close to two hundred riders, from the beginner to the seasoned racer this year.

The 2020 class champion Derrick Milbourne is on track to defend his title as he leads the class by eighty-two points. With an average of one hundred points to an event winner, only three racers are in proximity to dethrone the champ. Mark Blake, Patrick Farrow, and Louis Green Jr. all have a shot next weekend at the championship.

But don’t let a championship chase stop you from attending. For only $65 you can start a drag racing career with the best motorcycle drag racing sanction on the east coast.

Grab your family and friends and head to Maryland International Raceway next weekend for an exciting weekend of two-wheel racing action and history-making runs on October 8-10, for the 29th annual DME Racing Fall Nationals. XDA, it’s always the place to be!

BEHIND THE SCENES AT HARLEY-DAVIDSON— Just a little something this past weekend. I went back to Virginia for my niece’s wedding. While there thought I would pay the local dealership a visit. While I was looking at shirts the apparel girl told me she heard about Harley’s new rule on t shirts. She told me, no longer can you have any type of weapon on the back of the shirts, no cleavage showing or any civil war scenes?

This part of Virginia is rich in civil war history. So, I guess Harley has joined the politically correct club now? Being a biker are we not rebels? I don’t plan on spending many more days in this segment of the industry. Things like this are part of the reason why!

A CHARGING STATION NEAR YOU–Biden announced earlier this year that he wanted 50 percent of all cars sold in 2030 to be electric. But is that practical? Car-buying decisions by consumers are just one piece of the puzzle.

According to the US Department of Energy, the nation has over 43,000 public charging stations with about 105,000 individual outlets. Approximately 5,000 of these are direct-current fast (Level 3) chargers. Biden wants to have a total of 500,000 chargers online by 2030. The Brattle Group estimates that the US will require 1.25 million public charging outlets to support a projected 20 million electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. The cost to provide that capacity is projected to be $30 to $50 billion.

The charger designation dictates the cost. The higher the level, the quicker the charge, and, of course, the more expensive the charging station installation.

Automakers continue to promise that someday it will take as little as 10 minutes to charge an EV to about 80 percent capacity. Level 1 and 2 chargers, including home units, generally require four to twelve hours to charge an EV battery fully.

More electric vehicles need to be on the road to support such an expansion of charging capabilities successfully. Kind of like a chicken and egg situation—which comes first?

That’s not an easy task either since it will require a mix of public-private partnerships that involve local governments, businesses, utility companies, and automakers, along with an emerging group of EV charging companies. The logistics of constructing an EV charging network are not as simple as putting in a gas station on every corner.

A YouTube video from a few years ago illustrated just how difficult it is actually to charge your EV if away from your home charger. Convenient and efficient EV charging is a must if Americans are going to embrace the technology.

The Hill recently had an opinion piece called Right Ways and Wrong Ways to Electrify America. This paragraph stood out:

“We must move both fast and smart in this EV revolution. There are some major potholes that we must swerve around in this Indy 500 speedway towards making America all-electric.”

The overriding issue in the electric vehicle discussion is whether consumers will flock to EVs just because the government mandates it?

Currently, only 2.1 percent of the roughly 17 million vehicles sold each year in the US are all-electric. In 2020, EV sales dropped by more than 3 percent from 2018. One in five California EV car owners has already gone back to an internal combustion engine.

Electric vehicle technology must continue to advance for the hearts and minds of the car-buying public to follow, mandate or no mandate.

NEWS FROM THE BIKERNET BLOG EDITOR–
It’s maybe different that Triumph motorcycles can capitalize on movies, even with a Steve McQueen Edition – but there is no enthusiasm from Harley-Davidson with the legend status they so proudly wear on their marketing efforts.

I think it stems from the past image of biker gangs and rebels in heydays of Hollywood from the 1950s. No company can package that for selling their product to new customers. At the same time, no motorcycle brand like Harley-Davidson would want to appear with a “You meet nicest people on a Honda” type of branding even though now we live in a politically-correct 21st century which would think that’s a great slogan.

There is no balance between the two extremes, kind of like the divided nation portrayed in politics of the nation. No middle-ground to meet for the branding in movies.

I think that’s why both Indian Motorcycle and Harley-Davidson stay out of tie-ups with Hollywood movies. Who knows which movie / actor / director / producer offends whom and then a product from the movie starts receiving bad press for association in the production.

JOHN STOSSEL SUES FACEBOOK–
Former TV journalist John Stossel is demanding at least $2 million in damages from Facebook in a lawsuit he filed against the social media giant, alleging the company defamed him by appending fact-checking labels to two videos he posted about climate change.

In a statement to Variety, a Facebook spokesperson said, “We believe this case is without merit and we will defend ourselves vigorously against the allegations.”

According to Stossel’s lawsuit, in the past year he posted two short video reports on Facebook in which he “interviewed experts in the climate change arena.”

In one video, “Government Fueled Fires,” about the 2020 wildfires in California, Facebook and its fact-checking partners “falsely attributed to Stossel a claim he never made, and on that basis flagged the content as ‘misleading’ and ‘missing context,’ so that would-be viewers would be routed to the false attribution statement.” The complaint says that Stossel’s video “explored a scientific hypothesis” that “while climate change undoubtedly contributes to forest fires, it was not the primary cause of the 2020 California fires.” Per the suit, Stossel says he never made the claim that “Forest fires are caused by poor management. Not by climate change,” which was in Facebook’s fact-check.

On the second video, “Are We Doomed?”, Facebook added a “partly false”/“factual inaccuracies” label. That video questioned claims made by those Stossel refers to as “environmental alarmists,” including “claims that hurricanes are getting stronger, that sea level rise poses a catastrophic threat, and that humans will be unable to cope with the fallout.” Stossel claims the Facebook fact-check didn’t actually challenge any facts in the video, and he argues that the company’s fact-check process “is nothing more than a pretext… to defame users with impunity, particularly when Defendants disagree with the scientific opinions expressed in user content.”

The lawsuit alleges that “Stossel was given no meaningful avenue to contest these unilateral decisions about the truth of his journalism. Meanwhile, his viewership plummeted due to both Facebook’s censorship and the reputational harm caused by the false labels.”

Bravo to @JohnStossel for suing Facebook for defaming him for his scientifically accurate reporting on climate change

 BIKERNET ACTOR/MOVIE REVIEWS–
It’s incredible that Clint Eastwood makes great movies at this age and also finds an acting role suitable for himself in his own productions. Also, he covers the American life relevant to the present era with biographical dramas based on real-life persons and events.

Whether it is a two-part movie “Flags of Our Fathers” (first one in English and second one “Letters from Iwo Jima” entirely in Japanese) 2006, or “Invictus” about South Africa and apartheid 2009, the movie “J Edgar” on FBI Director in 2011, well-known “American Sniper” 2014 (two movies directed by Eastwood was released in 2014 with musical biographical story of group “The Four Seasons” releasing earlier that year under the title “Jersey Boys” – Eastwood was 84 years old in 2014), then the life of an ageing war-veteran in biographical drama “The Mule” based on a true story (in 2018, two movies directed by Eastwood released this year as well with a movie on Paris train terrorist attack), and most recently in 2019 movie based on the true life of security guard “Richard Jewell” who found the bomb in Olympic event only to be accused of being the bomber by FBI “Profiling System” (overweight single-white-male living with his mother with past rejection for law enforcement job)

Eastwood’s peers such as Warren Beatty or Al Pacino really never got any great roles after they crossed a certain age for landing a major role in a movie.

Jack Nicholson still kicked ass every now and then with great movies in so many different genres and stopped with his last movie in 2010.

Beatty came back after 15 years absence with a movie based on director Howard Hughes’ life in 2016 (it failed miserably at the box-office earning $3.9 m against a $25 million budget).

I highly recommend Jack Nicholson’s old-age romance comedy movie “Something’s Gotta Give” with Daine Keaton, where very much like in real-life his character dates hot young women every few months but then falls in love with the mother of his latest girlfriend (2003).

– and the dark comedy romance “As Good As It Gets” with Helen Hunt where he is an a—hole best-selling romance novelist who is a completely disgusting person devoid of any feelings called love or empathy in real life (1997).

LEGISLATIVE NEWS FROM NEW MEXICO–When Forced To Choose, Some New Mexico Gas Station Liquor Stores Will Now Just Sell Liquor

A paternalistic new law is having unintended consequences.

Q: When is a gas station that sells liquor not a gas station?

A: When New Mexico lawmakers make its owners choose between selling gas or selling liquor.

Some gas stations in a rural New Mexico county are being forced by an inane new law to choose between selling gas or selling liquor and wine. Some have chosen to close their pumps in protest and sell alcohol instead of gas.

The new ban is part of a larger package of changes to the state’s liquor laws—one its chief sponsor, Sen. Daniel Ivey-Soto (D–Albuquerque), calls “the biggest reform of liquor laws in 60 years in our state.” The new law contains several key elements in addition to the gas station liquor ban. Many of those changes are steps in the right direction. In fact, the “original intention” of the alcohol bill was deregulatory in nature. Among other things, it lifts a ban on home delivery of alcohol, introduces a new, less expensive liquor license for restaurants, and allows alcohol to be sold longer hours on Sundays (on par with allowable sales hours on other days).

The bad parts of the law are, well, bad. Ask the owners of Kokoman Fine Wines in Pojoaque, which was forced to try to offload $65,000 worth of nip bottles—those little liquor bottles commonly found lurking in a hotel mini-fridge—after the new law banned their sale across the state.

And then there’s the ban on gas station sales in McKinley County, where three out of four county residents are Native American. Sen. George Muñoz (D–Gallup), who introduced the gas-station amendment to the new law, says he did so because “people die in McKinley County because of alcoholism.”

While I have no doubt that some people in McKinley County who abuse alcohol die from that abuse, compelling gas stations that sell alcohol to become alcohol stores that don’t sell gas probably won’t save many (or even any) lives, and may do just the opposite. The ban is also likely unconstitutional. That’s why one chain of gas stations has sued the state to overturn it.

QUICK, OPEN THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY— Deb was lying in bed one night. Art was falling asleep, but Deb was in a romantic mood and wanted to talk. She said: “You used to hold my hand when we were courting….”

Wearily he reached across, held her hand for a second and tried to get back to sleep.

A few moments later she said: “Then you used to kiss me….”
Mildly irritated, he reached across gave her a peck on the cheek and settled down to sleep.

Thirty seconds later she said: “Then you used to bite my neck….”

Angrily, Art threw back the bed clothes and got out of bed.

“Where are you going?” Deb asked.

“To get my teeth!”

DOWN AT THE RETIREMENT CENTER:

80-year old Bessie bursts into the rec-room at the retirement home. She holds her clenched fist in the air and announces, “Anyone who can guess what’s in my hand can have sex with me tonight!”

An elderly gentleman in the rear shouts out, “An elephant?”

Bessie thinks a minute and says, “Close enough.”

OLD FRIENDS:

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards.

One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, “Now don’t get mad at me… I know we’ve been friends for a long time, but I just can’t think of your name.
I’ve thought and thought, but I can’t remember it. Please tell me what your name is.”

Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her.

Finally, she said, “How soon do you need to know?”

CALIFORNIA EXPANDS ROAD MILEAGE TAX–
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, signed legislation Friday expanding a pilot program that charges drivers a fee based on the number of miles they drive instead of a gasoline tax.

Oregon and Utah launched similar pilot programs in 2015 and 2020, respectively, that yielded mixed results. Few people volunteered for the programs initially because of privacy and equity concerns, but the states have since seen more participation after addressing some of those problems.

Federal and state gasoline taxes fund road construction and repair and have been consistently declining. Drivers increasingly are turning to more hybrid, electric and fuel-efficient cars.

Between 1993 and 2020, average fuel efficiency improved by approximately 26%, according to a 2020 report by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, a liberal think tank, meaning drivers on average can go an extra 75 miles between fill-ups. “Those 75 extra miles of driving are generating wear and tear on the nation’s roads, without requiring any offsetting gas tax payment to cover the cost,” the report found.

NHDRO motorcycle drag racing series pre-race report–event: NHDRO Midwest Fall Nationals/World Finals presented by Liguori Drag Racing

when: September 17-19, 2021

where: Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Ohio, USA

The Midwest’s largest motorcycle drag racing series—NHDRO—is making their first trip to the Midwest’s favorite dragstrip—Summit Motorsports Park. The Midwest Fall Nationals/World Finals presented by Liguori Drag Racing marks a sudden finale to NHDRO’s championship points season, and the whole NHDRO racing family is in for a real Big Money, Shootout-laden treat.

NHDRO’s Shootout Friday kicks the weekend off with a $10,000 Box vs. No-Box Shootout. Bracket Racing stars Tom and Joe Klemme, Dustin Lee, Robert “The” Mann, Norwalk stars Kevin and Craig Adams, and many more will all be cutting lights and taking stripes, measuring each other against the best in the world.

Friday will also be Ryan Schnitz Racing Road Course day—the no-time class that’s taking the nation by storm. Kyron Drake’s wild rides took the win last time out, but this class is just now getting serious. Martin runner-up Nico Grier, Mitch Pennington, “Kawasaki” Steve Adams, and many more have been tuning up and calling out competitors for this one.

Friday will also see the first round of qualifying for all Pro and Sportsman classes, including the big-tire nitrous and turbo studs of Grothus Dragbikes/Klemme Performance Motorcycles Pro Ultra 4.60

Dan McCarten has a strong 57 point lead in the 4.60 championship fight, with Jeff Jones in second. Joey Brandgard is another 8 points behind, and 7 points ahead of Les Stimac.

The MTC Pro Street championship battle is very tight, with Rudy Sanzottera 13 points ahead of Josh Ford and his nitrous Suzuki Hayabusa. Sanzottera’s Quicktime teammate (and brother-in-law) Brad Christian is another 28 behind in third.

Christian is the defending champ. Will Rudy break through this year for a well-deserved championship?

Jeremy Teasley has a short 8 point lead over Thomas “Turtle” Cole for the Schnitz Racing Top Gas 8.20 index championship, with Ryan Schnitz another 35 points back.

But there are other big Top Gas stories this weekend. Doug Fisher and David Beshera will run the rain-delayed U.S. 131 Top Gas final. Beshara is fifth in points and an extra win would help him make a big move at this event.

And both Beshara and Fisher will be hoping to win the $500 (plus interest?) bonus that “Kounselor” Kenny Schwartz is paying to the delayed Top Gas winner,

Teasley also has the BB Racing Super Comp 8.90 index points lead by 27 over Greg Mallett, who has 11 on Joe Klemme. Young Trevor Schnitz is another 50 points back.

Marty White leads M2.Shocks 8.70 Quick Street points on his mysteriously quick “Katanabusa,” 34 points ahead of veteran racer Dave Page. Eric Yost is another 12 back, followed by Rashad Rowe.

Marty also leads Kevin Dennis Insurance Street ET points, just 30 ahead of John “Spooky” Markham. Look out! When Spooky can sniff a championship, he’s a dangerous, dangerous man.

Justin Blackford and Rashard Rowe are tied for third, 80 points out of the Street ET lead.

Advanced Sleeve Dirty 30 9.30 is the other class that didn’t finish at Martin, and Joe Klemme and Rylan Rowe will also race that final at Norwalk. These two are also locked in a championship battle in the class, with Klemme ahead by 51 points. Todd “Bounty Hunter” Smith is third.

Klemme also has the points lead in MPS Pro ET, 20 points ahead of Beshara, who’s 60 points ahead of Doug Fisher.

Saturday night will see the Stock Wheelbase Shootout, another no-time class. Expect to see Martin winner Dustin Clark back for more, along with Drake and anyone else with a stock wheelbase and confident clutch hand.

VooDoo Grudge will throw down between all the Shootouts and late-night bracket racing till midnight each night.

Brian and Niki Welch look forward to welcoming the NHDRO family to everyone’s favorite track—Summit Motorsports Park at Norwalk!

THE TEXAS WEATHER REPORT–So we had a brief glimpse of Fall weather last week, windows open until about noon, almost needed my Bikernet Special Ops Vest on Saturday morning.

Transmission is going or gone in the Bronco, so I had to get the bike legal. Went to Jiffy Lube by the house. There were two in front of me, then one left, so got in early. Directional Arrows are for other people. I go to pay my $7 with a $20 and they don’t have change, he already ran it as cash. I offered to walk across the street to the store, but the guy said don’t worry about it, cool.

So, then I had to go about 40 minutes away to HEB in Montgomery County, as I forgot to list a change of address last year. So, I’m waiting for the Customer Service to open at 10, it’s 9:50. Listening to a guy tell me he sold his bike, but still has the helmet. A young lady comes out, hands him something and commented something to me? Helmet on and ear plugs, I realize they don’t open until 11 on Saturday!

But she said hold on & goes in the back and someone came out and did my tags. I guess she saw the paperwork in my hand, cool of both places! Then we ended up at my cousin’s place. Now we’re back to our regular September heat & humidity.

BIKERNET BOOK CLUB REVIEW OF THE WEEK–Bob Woodward of Watergate “fame” and some tv talking head named Robert Costa have a book called “Peril” that is of course about how scary concerning and worrying and troubling and whatever other word they’re using this week that ends in i-n-g Donald Trump was as President.

Bob Woodward wears a bow tie. Bill Nye the Science guy wears a bow tie. I rest my case. Also, he looks like a satire of the entire Borscht Belt as drawn by Robert Crump. And Costa looks like a lipless version of Tony Soprano who I would never turn my back on.

Tony Soprano?….HIM I would turn my back on. Costa? No. This Woodward fuck is a bottom feeder of the billionth magnitude. Without famous accomplished people for him to proclaim himself better than he would be writing daily menus in chalk on sandwich boards for restaurants.

THOUGHTS FROM THE BIKERNET CULTURAL CENTER— Relationships don’t depend solely on how well we understand someone, but also on how well we manage the misunderstanding.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” – Leo Buscaglia

A person’s most valuable asset is not a brain loaded with knowledge…But a heart full of love, with an ear open to listen and a hand willing to help.

You will never be good enough for everybody, but you will always be the best for someone who appreciates you.

Be good with good people.
But don’t be bad with bad people.
Because you can shape a diamond with a diamond,
But you can’t clean garbage with more garbage.
When someone has treated you unjustly, that is their Karma – you cannot control other people’s Karma.
What you can do is be good and fair with others and that Karma of yours is your Dharma.

Life isn’t about pleasing everyone, it’s about hurting no one.

DAV NEWS–Veteran Makes DAV Car Donation “all in the name of helping my fellow veterans”

Glenn E. Smith proudly joined the Pennsylvania Air Guard’s 111th Security Forces Squadron at Willow Grove in September 1998. Three years later, to the very month, the nation came under attack.

It wasn’t long after the attacks of September 11, 2001 that Smith’s unit activated and deployed to Lajes Field in the Azores, Portugal, where they would back-up and augment active duty forces.

Like so many who are deployed, being away from loved ones was difficult for Smith.

“Being away from my wife during deployments was hard on both of us, but likely tougher on her,” says Smith. “I wrote many letters to her and called home as often as possible, but nothing could replace being together. My comrades helped get me through it, and I helped them. My wife was home alone.”

As tough as military service was on their relationship, it was equally tough on the body, and, as many veterans have experienced, the impact of service injuries or illness can last a lifetime, and often worsen as the years go by.

“I’ve been retired from the service for 10 years, and the physical effects still linger,” says Smith. “Some even grow steadily worse.”

Smith’s wife convinced him to seek disability compensation, but the paperwork, he says, was “overwhelming.” That’s when DAV came into the picture.

“Fortunately, a friend who is active with DAV helped guide me through the process,” says Smith. “I could not be happier with what the DAV has done for me. They are my advocate – cutting through red tape and making life much more enjoyable for me and my wife.”

Grateful for the assistance he received from DAV, and wanting to pay it forward, Smith and his wife donated their car to DAV’s vehicle donation program.

“When it came time to replace her 18-year-old car, we decided to make a DAV car donation rather than sell it or trade it in,” says Smith.

The Smiths donation will help veterans and their families. DAV makes it easy to part with an old or extra vehicle and will pick up the car, free of charge, at the donor’s convenience.

“We can’t always donate a lot, but we do what we can, all in the name of helping my fellow veterans, which is the whole reason for DAV’s existence,” says Smith.

A DAV car donation becomes a resource to help veterans live their lives defined by the respect and dignity they deserve. More information about donating a car to benefit veterans is available by calling (833) 227-4328 or visiting Dav.org/cars .

IRS HOSPITAL AUDIT–At the end of the tax year, the IRS office sent an inspector to audit the books of a local hospital.

While the IRS agent was checking the books, he turned to the CFO of the hospital and said, “I notice you buy a lot of bandages. What do you do with the end of the roll when there’s too little left to be of any use?”

“Good question” noted the CFO. “We save them up and send them back to the bandage company and every once in a while, they send us a free roll.”

“Oh,” replied the auditor, somewhat disappointed that his unusual question had a practical answer. But on he went, in his arrogant and obnoxious way. “What do you do with what’s left over after setting a cast on a patient?”

“Ah, yes,” replied the CFO, realizing that the auditor was trying to trap him with an unanswerable question. “We save it and send it back to the manufacturer and every so often they will send us a free bag of plaster.”

“I see,” replied the auditor, thinking hard about how he could fluster the know-it-all CFO. “Well,” he went on, “What do you do with all the remains from the circumcision surgeries?”

“Here, too, we do not waste,” answered the CFO. “What we do is save all the little foreskins and send them to the IRS office, and about once a year they send us a complete prick.”

Hero has authorized dealerships in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Panama and quite a few other South American nations. Even in island nation of Trinidad.

None in USA or Canada.

They are also popular in Africa.

REGRADING TEST RIDES – in India, Authorized Motorcycle Dealers don’t ever have new motorcycle models available for a test ride.

If you go to the Enfield showroom and ask for a Test Ride of Meteor 350 which was launched so many months ago – they won’t have one for a Test Ride. But inside their showroom they will show you the new Meteor 350 and show how the dashboard display looks after turning the key on. And that’s about it.

For Hero, they may have one or two of the 100cc models such as Splendor or Passion for test rides. The Hero Splendor is highest selling model in Indian two-wheeler market for decades – but they won’t have the more expensive Xpulse for a test ride.

So, the Hero Showroom too will show you the XPulse inside their showroom and how the digital dashboard looks.

It is very expensive for authorized Dealers to have a model just for Test Rides, even though the ones they have require a valid driving license to take on a test ride.

The Enfield Showroom will have the top selling model Classic 350 available for Test Ride but that too will be from 3 or more years ago – not having the features of 2021 edition of the Classic 350.

However, Companies such as Harley-Davidson, Indian or Triumph will always have quite a few models available for Test Rides at their authorized Dealer Showrooms in India. They will let you take it for a spin and show you how to use the various features while out riding.

These are very expensive motorcycles and rarely if any customer will buy it without actually knowing that they like the riding experience on them.

It is the same for expensive cars costing above Rs.1.5 million. For Example, the Toyota Fortuner or Ford Endeavour which are not really luxury four-wheeler brands in international markets but very expensive compared to the popular hatchbacks and compact cars most people buy. Affordable sedans such as from Suzuki, Hyundai also have high sales. Uber drivers also buy the under Rs.1 million cars.

So, the Fortuner or Endeavour will be available for Test Rides – but the smaller cars will have a few older versions available for test rides and not all the models in the lower price range will be available for test rides.

Example: If you want to drive the Suzuki WagonR they may not have that one but the Suzuki Alto may be available.

Of course, the luxury car brands always have test ride models available, people spending on a Audi, Mercedes, BMW will always ride and compare specs before buying.

Jeep entered India a few years ago and is popular competitor in its expensive segment.

KEEP THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY WIDE OPEN–Child goes to school first time in Ireland

“What’s your name?”, asked the teacher. “Mohammad,” he replied.

“You’re in Ireland now,” replied the teacher, “So from now on you will be known as Mike. “

Mohammad returned home after school. “How was your day, Mohammad?”, his mother asked.

“My name is not Mohammad. I’m in Ireland and now my name is Mike”

“Are you ashamed of your name? Are you trying to dishonor your parents, your heritage, your religion? Shame on you!”

And his mother beat him. Then she called his father, who beat him again.

The next day Mohammad returned to school. The teacher saw all of his bruises.

“What happened to you, Mike?” She asked.

“Well shortly after becoming an Irishman, I was attacked by two fuckin’ Muslims.”

NEW FROM DEEP INSIDE THE PRISM–Our Process | Psychic Shifter

When we started Prism Supply back in 2012, one of our foundational goals was to manufacture as many motorcycle parts in-house as possible.

But, we were set on having our latest product, the Psychic Shifter, sand casted and that’s simply not something we’re cut out for.

Sand casting is a discipline that seems to be increasingly rare these days. Not to mention, it was important to find a US-based sand caster.

After spinning our wheels searching all over the country, we stumbled upon a company right here in Charlotte, Jenkins Electric, who has been operating a casting foundry since before anyone on our team was even born.

WHAT’S NEXT—I’m working with a local machine shop. The owner’s name is Reno. I’ll bring you a couple of shots next week of our new number plate for the new Bikernet Intergalactic Headquarters in the Badlands.

I’m working with my grandson on a story about the techs he performed on his way to Sturgis. And a story on his ride experience. It’s an indicator of the changes we’ve been through.

I’m working on a Story about Valerie Thompson, her history with Bikernet and 5-Ball Racing, which kicked off a vast and unrelenting motorcycle career.

We are working with Steve Klein and the Sierra Madre Motorcycle Company. He bends over backwards for our industry and recently hosted the Cannonball gathering in Texas where he hung out with Jody Perewitz, who loves riding vintage shit. Steve is going to work on a story about all the cross-country motorcycle rallies currently available.

I finally broke the ice with my Chopper Chronicles series about stolen motorcycles. Still some work ahead, but I believe it’s coming together.

Hang on. We’re getting there on several fronts including the shop.

In the meantime, ride fast and free to the final party in the sky,

–Bandit
