2006 Victory By Polaris Motorcycles

VICTORY LOGO

There’s something very different about Victory. This line of ever-refining cruisers is purely American and unique to any Harley-based cycles on the market.

Not only is the line-up unique, but it’s got class, style and they work. Last year I took a road test ride with four experienced moto-journalist from American Rider, including the editor, Buzz Buzzelli, Reg Kittrelle, the famous Don Quiote of motorcycling Clement Salvadori and my ugly self. We rode Harleys, customs and a Victory King pin. We rode in the desert, in the rain, through the hills and over interstates. The Victory out shinned all the other makes.

It’s no wonder Victory received so many two-wheeled accolades last year. They may not have the traditional look of a Harley or a tough custom, but they stand on their own. If you’re in the market, they’re worth straddling for a test ride.

I’ve posted a recent report and rave compliments below:

The Victory Hammer continues to make an impressive impact on the motorcycling world, and the editors of Motorcycle Cruiser magazine recently named the Hammer the “2005 Cruiser of the Year.”

The editors praised the innovative power cruiser for its stylish looks and outstanding performance.

“Sleek, flowing bodywork in dazzling colors, with a massive rear tire that’s out to here… You just have to stare,” the editors wrote in the October 2005 issue. “The eye-popping beauty of the Hammer shows how far Victory has come.”

The Motorcycle Cruiser editors said they choose their Cruiser of the Year winners based on which new cruiser model “shakes things up. It’s the new bike that drops into the pool and makes the biggest ripples and rocks the most boats. This year that cruiser is obviously Victory’s Hammer. It pushes production-line cruisers closer to streetwise customs than ever before.”

In the October issue the editors praised the Hammer’s distinctive, sport bike-inspired styling, and said its smooth and powerful new drivetrain raises the bar for cruiser performance.

“You have to be impressed with the Freedom 100/6 engine introduced in the Hammer…” they wrote. “Without the displacement excess of some other big twins, the 100-cubic-inch Victory mill makes impressive power, and the new six-speed transmission – the only six-speed-overdrive gearbox in a production V-twin – allows you to ride at a very relaxed pace on the highway.”

With its styling, new Freedom V-Twin and transmission and fat 250mm rear tire, the Hammer also puts the cruiser spotlight on the Victory brand, the editors said.

“The Hammer’s ability to grab attention makes it important for one other reason. Traffic is way up in Victory dealers, and sales have risen by 50 percent from a year ago,” they wrote. “That seals Victory’s status as a mainstream motorcycle brand, and signals a bright future for ‘The New American Motorcycle.’”

HAMMER

IF YOU WANT SUBTLE, BUY A MINIVAN.

The first thing you’ll notice about the 2006 Victory Hammer™ is that you can’t help but notice the 2006 Hammer. It could be the monster 250 mm rear tire specially designed by Dunlop and the super-wide fender that watches over it. It may be the wicked custom-inspired paint job, deep saddle or V-bar that demands a more aggressive riding position. Look closer. Maybe it’s the beefy 100/6 Freedom V-Twin. Or the dual front Brembo® brakes. Or, quite possibly, it’s the notion that as good as the Hammer looks on the outside, it was designed and built to aggressively outperform its competitors on the inside. Besting rival bikes in balance, power and overall braking. Or maybe the Hammer is so completely undeniable for all the reasons above.

VEGAS

It hasn’t received the highest industry accolades for nothing. Striking enough to catch the eyes and break the concentration of anything and anyone within proximity, the Victory Vegas is nothing short of a work of art. First it reels you in with its long, low, stretched style, its smooth-as-virgin-silk lines and its custom-inspired details. Then it grabs you by the collar with its 100/6 Freedom V-Twin. Its tip-to-tail raised spine, flush-mounted taillight and scalloped tank. This is it. The bike you’d build if you set out to build your own. VEGAS 8-BALL

A STATEMENT. FOR THOSE WHO DON’T REALLY NEED TO MAKE A STATEMENT.

It’s brash. It’s bold. It’s obviously American. The Victory Vegas 8-Ball is the very embodiment of menacing good looks. Blacked out from split tail tank to fork sliders to triple clamps. A sinister sea of black. Blacked-out engine, blacked-out swingarm, blacked-out belt guard. It may take a second glance to realize the 8-Ball is a direct descendent of the Vegas. But then it’s worth a second glance. And a third. With a five-speed, 100 cubic inch, four-valves-per-cylinder, overhead cam Freedom V-Twin, you’ll find its performance as solid as its powder-coated components. And if you think you’ll pay a premium, think again. You’re looking at a bike whose face value far exceeds its cost. Whose overall aesthetic is rivaled only by its ride prowess. Whose mere presence commands your attention.

KINGPIN DELUXE

THE ONLY THING IT FEARS IS STANDING STILL.

One look at the cool, confident Kingpin™ and you know why it’s considered the Godfather of Victory’s lineup. The fuel-injected, 100/6 Freedom V-Twin provides massive amounts of power and torque all throughout the power band. The inverted front fork, rising-rate linkage rear suspension, rubber-mounted handlebars and vibration-absorbing floorboards assure you’ll remember each trip for all the right reasons. While the six-spoke cast aluminum wheels, fully valanced fenders and deeply contoured seat elevate the Kingpin’s polished style to be just as smooth as the Kingpin’s ride. And just in case plenty is not enough, a windshield, saddlebags and touring accessories adorn our badder-than-ever-before Kingpin Deluxe.
