Hey,
I realize the two most important games of the season are being played today, so I need to make this quick.
Get this: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will test employees at over 100 airports for radiation. No, they won’t test subject passengers or the machines. “We still have no idea how much radiation is being imposed on travelers by properly functioning machines,” said James Babb, co-founder of the We Won’t Fly, a consumer advocacy group. “A malfunctioning machine could be particularly nasty.”–the WEEK magazine.
Let’s hit the news:
BIKERNET UNIVERSITY HISTORY LESSON–As incredible as it sounds, men and women took baths only twice a year (May and October) Women kept their hair covered, while men shaved their heads (because of lice and bugs) and wore wigs.
Wealthy men could afford good wigs made from wool. They couldn’t wash the wigs, so to clean them they would carve out a loaf of bread, put the wig in the shell, and bake it for 30 minutes. The heat would make the wig big and fluffy, hence the term ‘big wig..’ Today we often use the term ‘here comes the Big Wig’ because someone appears to be or is powerful and wealthy.
–from Sam Burns
Check points: I believe the motorcycle rights community could make these taboo across the board, with the right campaign.
Motorcycle Noise issues: I believe with the correct campaign we could stop these regulatory efforts once and for all.
Freedom: Motorcycles represent one of the last free endeavors in this country. Could we create a campaign that would secure those freedoms and make the country wake up to our over-regulatory disease spreading across the land.
Just a notion or two. Join the MRF and help out. We need you.

AUSTRALIAN COAST BIKERS NOT OUT FOR “WAR”– A biker spokesman says the only “war” involving motorcycle clubs on the Gold Coast is a propaganda war.
The United Motorcycle Council said police and politicians were “scaremongering” after a recent incident between members of the Rebels and Bandidos at a Surfers Paradise strip club.
Speaking exclusively with the Sun, UMC spokesman Russell Wattie said no single club claimed Surfers Paradise as their exclusive “turf”‘. And while there may be some bad blood between individuals, he said as far as he was aware there were no “simmering tensions” between clubs on the Coast.
“There is no war other than a propaganda war,” he said. “The scaremongering is for no other reason than for the police to incite fear,” said Mr Wattie, also known as Camel. “If the same scrutiny were applied to a football club or a church that is applied to bike clubs, it would show similar criminal activity at work in all stratas of society.
“There have been much more violent offences committed by non-club members that get no media attention. “A simple fight between a couple of blokes with no weapons other than fists deserves no comment … in this day and age of the youth of the Gold Coast resorting to knives in their fights, they should look at a simple fist fight just as being the Aussie way to sort out their differences.”
The UMC, formed in 2009, represents 16 Queensland motorcycle clubs opposing anti-association laws which enable clubs to be declared criminal organisations.
The clubs claim it is unconstitutional for the “anti-freedom law” to ban bikers from associating with each other.
Mr Wattie, formerly a patched member of the Outcasts who resigned last year for “personal reasons”, said the laws were doomed to fail in Queensland just as they have when challenged in court in other states. The law has not yet been tested in Queensland.
“I believe (the “scaremongering”) to be the old magician’s trick look at this hand while the other is doing something he doesn’t want you to notice,” Mr Wattie said.
“Remember that ‘three-piece patch clubs’ contribute less than 0.03 per cent of the crime rate. “The police and government officials contribute 6 per cent of the crime rate.”
The special biker taskforce, Hydra, reported it was “too busy” to speak with the Sun newspaper for this story.

BILLY LANE TO BUILD A CHOPPER IN PRISON FOR ROLLING THUNDER AND VETS– We at Choppers Inc. are proud and excited to announce an incredible opportunity recently presented to Billy Lane, which we are certain will inspire and energize the entire motorcycle community.
Memorial Day 2012 marks the 25th Anniversary of Rolling Thunder’s annual First Amendment Demonstration Run in Washington D.C. –an event that attracts over 450,000 motorcycles and more than a million attendees. Rolling Thunder is a non-profit organization, whose mission is to publicize POW-MIA issues, educate the public concerning the many American Prisoners of War that have been left behind, to help correct the past, and to protect future Veterans. The annual rally has evolved to serve not only the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action issue, but also has become a demonstration of patriotism and respect for Service Members and Veterans from all wars.
At this year’s 25th Anniversary Run in Washington D.C., five amazing motorcycles will be unveiled to honor each branch of the U.S. Military, bringing recognition and respect to all of America’s servicemen and women. The 5 Tribute Bikes are destined to be epic, and the building process to be featured in leading motorcycle publications. These powerful, road-worthy bikes will tour the U.S. with the traveling Vietnam War Memorial “Wall that Heals”, visiting military installations and events, Veterans Affairs locations, major motorcycle rallies, and then potentially taken overseas to the troops.
• U.S. Air Force – Billy Lane, of Choppers Inc., will be building the Air Force bike unassisted, with sponsorship and support from The Horse Backstreet Choppers magazine, and donations from other generous contributors. Of course, Choppers Inc. will be providing several of Billy’s patented parts for the project. Meanwhile, “The Horse” will maintain exclusive rights to publish photos and details of Billy’s challenging build, up until the unveiling on Memorial weekend.
• U.S. Army – Jay Allen, of the famed Broken Spoke Saloon, will present his custom-built U.S. Army bike –which has already hit the asphalt nationwide, inspiring the concept for Rolling Thunder’s 25th Anniversary observance.
• U.S. Coast Guard – Mike Thomas (“Kiwi Mike”), of Kiwi Indian, will build the Coast Guard Tribute Bike, to be published in American Iron magazine.
• U.S. Marine Corps – The Marine Corps bike is courtesy of Brigitte Bourget/Bourget’s Bike Works, and will be featured in Iron Works magazine.
• U.S. Navy – The Navy Tribute Bike will be created by Darwin Holdsworth, of Darwin Motorcycles, with his build to be covered by Cycle Source magazine.
The Lane family is extremely excited about Billy’s invitation to participate in such an honorable event. We would also like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Rolling Thunder Washington D.C., Jay Allen Promotions, R&R Promotions, The Horse Backstreet Choppers, and Florida’s Department of Corrections.

ACCURATE ENGINEERING KNUCKLEHEAD–
I’m working on that Knucklehead build with Berry’s motor. There’s a secret behind this build. I’ll tell you later.
Once the bike is done, I’m going to put it in a trailer and truck it down to Alabama from Toronto, to show it to Berry personally. After that, I’ll get her professionally photographed and you will be the first and only one to get pictures for Bikernet.
Here’s some pictures of the motor that Berry did for me! God, he’s the best!!

BIKERNET 5-BALL RACING BONNE BELLE BONNEVILLE CLASS CONTROVERSY–We are trying to figure out what class we can run the 45 flathead in. Since it’s a flathead, they don’t consider the valve adjusters to be pushrods, so no Pushrod class, then since we decided to install a K-model top end, no Vintage distinction. Check below for more obstacles.
The AMA class(es) your machine would fit into are as follows.
750/A/AG
750/A/AF
750/A/ABG
750/A/ABF
Plus, the same engine classes with APS
There is currently no allowance for larger displacement with a flathead engine according to the AMA supplemental rules (e.g.- 750 flathead in the 500 classes).
PG, PBG, PF, PBF will not fit, because you do not have a pushrod engine.
VINTAGE GAS – 12.I. PAGE 45
“The engines production date shall be prior to 1956. Flathead, OHV, and two-stroke engines
shall retain the O.E.M. heads, cylinders, and crankcases originally installed at time of factory production.
Above components produced after 1955 and exact reproductions may be legal in vintage class if they offer no competitive advantage.
Documentation may be required to prove authenticity of vintage design. Allowable overbore in this class is +.050- inches over OEM standard bore to remain in displacement class.”
Please contact me any time if further questions arise.
Lastly, yes you are very cool, and so is your engine. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.
Many years ago I ran a 45 WL with a 900 XL top end and Jawa Speedway jackshaft and clutch basket, on alcohol. Special built chromoly rigid frame.
Broke my leg once, and wrist once on the thing. It was a blast!!! Sold it for $500!!
Hope this helps, and please keep in mind…………………don’t kill the messenger.

IRON WORKS EDITOR SURFACES–Many people are familiar with my Motorcycle and People photography. I’ve been at it for awhile and have had my work published in print magazines globally. STURGIS MOTORCYCLE RALLY INC. (SMRI) Financial Statements– During a meeting with the Sturgis City Council, SMRI board member Dean Kinney disclosed some numbers regarding income and expenses of the group in charge of protecting the rally trademarks acquired in June 2010.
In 2011 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Inc. received an income of $435,000 from trademarks licensing fees and had about 209,000 in legal fees to protect its intellectual property and defend them against lawsuits by the group Concerned Citizens For Sturgis.
SMRI also made $201,000 in loan payments on a debt of about 2.1 million and also paid fees of $10,500 to a public relation person. In December, SMRI donated $50,000 to Sturgis Charities but Dean Kinney believes that his group could in the future return million of dollars to the community. In 2011, 20 vendors would have accepted to pay for an official Sturgis license.
ST. AUGUSTINE HARLEY-DAVIDSON TO CLOSE AT THE END OF THE MONTH– Harley-Davidson of St. Augustine, Fla., will close its doors at the end of this month, another casualty of the slow economy, the owners have announced.
Co-owners Clark Vitulli and Allen Good bought the dealership in August 2007. It was named a Top 100 Dealer for four years straight. “It’s a difficult thing to have to do, but we’re doing it with Harley-Davidson, which is a good thing,” Vitulli told the St. Augustine Record. “They are closing … not only the store, but they’re not reappointing another dealership here.”
Vitulli says the store will probably remain open for a couple more months to sell off PG&A and used inventory. “We have products we need to sell, but we won’t be selling new Harley-Davidsons and will no longer be a dealership,” he says.
The Harley-Davidson retail store in downtown St. Augustine is expected to remain open, selling clothing and general merchandise under the management of another Harley dealership. Dealernews Top 100 dealer Adamec Harley-Davidson in Jacksonville will service VIP customers who bought a prepaid maintenance package or have gift certificates to redeem.
Over its four-and-a half-year run, the dealership has supported many local charities, including Wounded Warriors, Special Olympics, Buddy Check 12 for Breast Cancer, Humane Society, Juvenile Diabetes Relief Fund, Think Pink Ride for Breast Cancer and many more. The dealership also sold over 1,300 motorcycles during that time, plus served thousands more customers for their service, parts, motorclothes and bike rental needs, according to Vitulli. Harley-Davidson of St. Augustine supports an active HOG (Harley Owners Group) chapter.

CHANGES TO EASYRIDERS FORMAT– I was reading Bikernet Thursday news and came across where Easyriders is going to include the Dave Mann centerfolds again! It did my heart good to read this. I am going to start buying a copy again each month if for nothing else just for the centerfold.
The timing on this appearing is kinda freaky, I was just in my garage yesterday hanging some Dave Mann art on the walls?

Reconstructive surgery was performed but Matthew Wall lost 1.5? to his penis. VICTORY TO UNVEIL 2013 model THIS WEEKEND AT IMS NEW YORK– (These shots, by Prince Najar, are just in from the NYC show).

Additional attractions planned for the International Motorcycle Shows weekend at the Javits Center include the Victory Girls, and the new Victory Touring Nation presented by RoadRUNNER Touring and Travel Magazine. Editors from RoadRUNNER will partake in Q&A sessions, and attendees will enjoy free mini-magazines about touring in and outside of the New England area.
Victory says it grabbed the first 2013 pre-production motorcycle off the line specifically for Zach Ness to make his own. Given a new model and a clean slate, Ness promises that his custom will be unique and capitalize on the high-quality chassis and handling for which Victory is known. “I had to spend a weekend riding the new bike around the hills outside of Dublin to get a real feel for this bike,” says the grandson of legend Arlen Ness. “We actually delayed starting to build the bike because there was so much inspiration gained after riding the stock machine — it changed completely what I first thought I was going to build, and I’m excited to reveal it to the public on Saturday.”

Cincy V Twin Dealer Show
Speaking of winter weather, we’re flying out of Bikernet paradise into the belly of the bad weather beast in Ohio at the crack of dawn Friday the 3rd.
My eyes will be pealed for hot sweethearts and hot rod parts that will help us stop the 5-Ball Bonne Raycer in a shorter safer distance while haulin’ ass.
Bennett’s Performance
Late Friday arrived at Eric’s shop in Signal Hill to begin the assembly of our street 97-inch Twin cam build that will end up in my 2004 Dyna that’s patiently waiting on the kick stand in San Jose for the fresh engine.
After visiting Branch/O’Keefe next door to retrieve a fresh set of flowed heads for the build, the cases were scrubbed, brushed and rinsed in hot water for a clean start. Lower end bearings were installed in the cases with the proper tools for a bullet proof long mileage Darkhorse Crankworks lower end. Eric buttoned up the cases after applying case sealer to hold the oil in.
This week Eric will install the Fueling cams, lifters and performance push rods, H-D Screaming Eagle cam plate/oil pump and the CCI cylinders, pistons, rings and a massaged top end with set of Crane roller rockers to activate the valves. We expect a completed engine sometime this week. To be continued with images and tech tips for proper assembly.
Hyperfromance, Twin Cam Bonneville Fire Breather
Yahoo. Our fresh, Randy Torgeson prepared 124- inch turbo ready twin cam fire breather was boxed and loaded in a freight truck Monday afternoon in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, destination west coast where a fresh frame is waiting. More great news on the 2012 Bonneville build on Thursday in the Bikernet News.
Cantina
It’s simple, locate a sponsor on the Bikernet list. Give them a call and ask for your Cantina Member discount. In the event of a denial, give us a call and we’ll reach out for you. We have ways of dealing with denials that seldom fail. Thumb screws and water-boarding are on the short list.
Sturgis 72nd
Bikernet/Cycle Source will be located in a huge lot located on Lazelle St across the street from the new Easyrider. Come on out and enjoy the Black Hills and a cold drink under the shade tree with the Bikernet crew. We are planning a ride from the Bikernet/Cycle Source lot to the local Veterans Center just outside of town to visit a few surviving warriors.

LIFE IS NUTS–But it’s all we’ve got, so we are going to give it hell this year. I’m after my grandkids to set goals for this year, and here at Bikernet we have a stack of glorious aspirations, from building bikes, to Bonneville, to writing books, to supporting the MRF, and fighting to keep us free to work on our bikes, and build customs.
But today we’re going to kick back and watch these games. We will probably be in Cinci for the Superbowl, so this will be the last opportunity to kick back with some friends and watch the fight for the SuperBowl unfold.
I’m rolling on Frank’s (my son) Mudflap girl wiring, but I had an alternative notion for simplified wiring. I need to run it by Tim a GripAce for his approval, then I’ll let you know.

A Shreveport, La., official has introduced a bill to ban wearing pajamas in public. Of course, he ran into folks wearing pajamas in a Walmart. Why can’t we ban Walmarts? How about a moratorium on passing laws for a year, while we reevaluate laws and agencies and reduce the bullshit and put freedom back? It’s a thought.
