Cincy Sunday Post for Feb 3, 2013

Here we go,

I’m not sure where to start this morning. The industry is still in Cincy, although many are trying to find a way to watch the Super Bowl. We will have several reports from the front, most were good, but some spelled doom and gloom. That’s always the case.

I looked up a census report on the growth of the population over the last year. Actually stumbled across an article comparing 2000 figures with 2010. Get this, the male population increased by 14 million to a total of 152 million. I rounded off the numbers. The 18-44 year old population increased just one million, but the 45-64 year-old population jumped from 62 to 81.5 million. The point is that more motorcyclists are being born or coming of age, everyday.

We have one mantra that must be followed for our survival. We must insure that the country stays free and recognizes freedom, so as kids grow, they can still build motorcycles and ride free!

So Tobey finished his first set of U.S. Choppers gas/oil tanks. It may be his last, but he did a helluva job. The boss, Rick Krost, needs to work on the manufacturing process, or add some bucks to the welder’s wallet. I’m sure Ron, at Paughco would be building them if the numbers penciled out. We will see what the master of the Boardtrack chassis decides moving forward.

I learned a tremendous amount about welding, bodywork, and sheet metal fab working with Tobey. Let’s hit the news.

V-TWIN EXPO EMBEDDED REPORTERS CHECKING IN—Several Bikernet Staffers were shipped to Cincinnati to cover the V-Twin Expo. Last year the controversy boiled over as the economy hit the motorcycle market hard, yet some folks attempted to ask for more funds from struggling manufacturers. Advanstar threatened to expand their business to business motorcycle show to two shows.

Then Drag Specialities offered to promote four business to business shows for their vendors. But the Cincinnati V-Twin Expo remained true to it’s mantra, supporting the V-Twin market in the same location at the same time.

One of our embedded reporters told us the show was dying and down. Another reporter scoped out the girls and said, “Well yeah, Jasmine pretty short! From one extreme to the other at this event!” As he tended to only look for vintage bikes and the booth hotties, including the V-Twin party entertainer Jasmine Cain. The other two girls were 6-foot tall without shoes.

–PSD

Wait there’s more from PSD who snuck into the hall with a 2004 Bikernet Press Pass:

The V-twin show this go around was pretty good. Much smaller than the earlier past years but pretty good overall.

It was easier to talk to the vendors and more detailed info about their products. One product that was a standout for me was from CCI. It’s is a new HD EFI diagnostic/tuning system from europe being released in mid April.

The system allows tuning, diagnostics, code removal, along with speedo, and TSSM install.
It also allows ABS brake bleeding and HD radio diag./programing.

The system has the optional breakout box’s/ harness’s needed for HD diagnostics
Very benificial for the aftermarket shops that have to deal with the newer HD factory ECM systems.

I cornered the Euro-CCI/ rep. and he was very knowledgeable about the system.

Name of the product?? I don’t know, my stuff from the show is in the trunk, and I’m driving home right now damn it man.

We will bring you more info in the Thursday News–Bandit

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY SUPER BOWL VOCABULARY LESSON–
atavistic at-uh-VIS-tik, adjective:

of, pertaining to, or characterized by atavism; reverting to or suggesting the characteristics of a remote ancestor or primitive type.

Buck exhibits atavistic characteristics when his instincts and memories of an impossibly distant past “call” him and reassert themselves into his behavior.

— Jack London, The Call of the Wild

…so that when Mrs. and Miss Hulme of Kansas City cut them dead in the Plaza one evening, it was only that Mrs. and Miss Hulme, like most people, abominated mirrors of their atavistic selves.

— F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Beautiful and Damned

Derived from the Latin atavus meaning “ancestor,” atavistic gained popularity in the 1870s.

BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING WEEKEND LESSON–Girls, this is how to break the news!!!!

“Have you ever seen a twenty pound note all crumpled up?” asked the wife.

“No,” I said.

She gave me a little smile, reached into her cleavage and pulled out a crumpled twenty pound note.

“Have you ever seen a fifty pound note all crumpled up?” she asked.

“No,” I said.

She gave me another little smile, reached into her knickers and pulled out a crumpled fifty pound note.

“Now,” she said, “have you ever seen 30,000 pounds all crumpled up?”

“No,” I said, intrigued, thinking of financial gain.

“Well, go and take a quick look in the garage.”

DECORATED COMBAT VETERAN ARRESTED IN NEW YORK– Charged with 5 felonies for possession AR magazines.

Posted by: Rob Richardson

In the latest attack on the American people, a decorated War Hero has been arrested and charged with five counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon, for having empty 30 round AR-15 Magazines in his vehicle.

On Sunday January 6th Staff Sgt. Nathan Haddad, a decorated combat veteran, was driving through Jefferson County New York when he was randomly pulled over for a vehicle check. Haddad, who had five 30 round empty magazines in his possession, was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and charged with five felony counts.

According to Haddad’s brother, Michael Haddad, Nathan thought these magazines were legally made before the New York Assault Weapons Ban. When Nathan Haddad was arrested the new ban had not even been fully enacted yet.

This is not a criminal, this is not some thug looking to hurt people; this is a decorated combat veteran who was recently honored by the Philadelphia chapter of Blue Star Mothers and the Union League’s Armed Services Council for helping disabled vets get back on their feet. What’s happening to Army veteran Nate Haddad is an absolute attack on liberty. Here we have a man who honorably served his country, who was trusted with weaponry that far exceeded anything he was carrying, that now finds himself facing the possibility of spending years in prison.?? Still think these gun control laws are meant to stop criminals?

Nathan Haddad’s brother has set up a legal defense fund for his brother who cannot afford to fight these charges on his own. We ask that you share this story with everyone you know so that this attack on Hassad is seen for what it is, an attack on every law abiding citizen in America.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT WRITING CLASS–
boustrophedon boo-struh-FEED-n, noun:

an ancient method of writing in which the lines run alternately from right to left and from left to right.

This, they call the boustrophedon form because it mimics the back-and-forth pacing of an ox tied to a tether.

— Chuck Palahniuk, Lullaby

Elsa suddenly recalls a word from the recesses of her memory: boustrophedon, scripts written in alternating directions.

— Jennifer Vanderbes, Easter Island

This ancient form of writing is named for an ancient form of farming and literally translates as “to turn like an ox while plowing.” Derived from the Greek boûs for “ox,” and strophe meaning “to turn,” boustrophedon describes a snake-like motion in which a line of text doubles back on itself as it descends a page.

WEEKEND GUN NUT REPORT–According to John Lott, a gun violence expert, since at least 1950, every public shooting incident, except one, in which 3 or more people were killed happened where citizens are not allowed to carry.

Killers’ profile——-Interesting

It seems that there are three common denomonators in the recent shootings. 1. Mental illness 2. Gun free zones 3. Read the e-mail
“Why is it the progressive liberal that steals guns then go and kill movie goers and children in school has never been a NRA member?”

Ft Hood- Registered Democrat- Muslim
Columbine- Too young to vote – both families were registered democrats and progressive liberals
VA Tech- Wrote hate mail to Pres Bush and to his staff. Registered Democrat
Colorado Theater- Registered Democrat, staff worker on the Obama campaign, occupy wall street participant , progressive liberal
Connecticut School Shooter- Registered Democrat, hated Christians
Common thread is that all of these shooters were progressive liberal democrats.”
Interesting…isn’t it

SPEAKING OF EMBEDDED, HERE’S A REPORT FROM CHINA–
They are playing Blue Christmas Elvis on hotel patio. Many stores still have Xmas decorations up.

I think I found the only no HE Massage in Beijing.
220Y= 35.00 for an hour – very good though.

It is about 5 hrs flying to Bangkok from here.

Mc D’s was playing Xmas songs still, while I had a breakfast sandwich & coffee 14Y = 2.35
Not settling well at the moment.

Yesterday I hit KFC for 27Y=4.65
2 small pieces of chicken – fries and small Pepsi.

Had a small “gourmet” pizza and coke for lunch 40Y. Kinda like a Pizza Hut really – full of Chinese !!

Same feeling as Guanzhou here. Unless you have some purpose there is no purpose to be here.
Some countries are easy to hang out in – this doesn’t feel like it.

Cannot rent motorcycle or car here. Must have Chinese drivers license.
Cannot ride Harley everywhere – just some roads and highways. Motorbikes are not allowed in city center where I am.

You CAN however pay $5000 to get a permit, so it’s an A plate verses a B plate. Harley prices are only about double the US here -TRIPLE in other countries. They gave me a T shirt at the Harley store – Price tag was about $66usd.

On the most part it seems Chinese food is not same in the US.

Room & hotel are decent – $50/nite all in tax, etc. good value for area. Newer construction – marble bath – not real large but spacious enough –
Better than Motel 6 by far -steam radiator heater keeps it very warm. Free bottled water – wired internet that doesn’t work so well.
The lobby computer wouldn’t do my e-m or hotmail so it was essential to have laptop.
Nor did I ever see one internet shop on the street.

NO You tube or Facebook here –

Hotel Breakfast buffet looked OK at 22Y but I had to make my one McD’s visit.

“Always do sober what you said you’d do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.”

Just got back from the Harley dealer. Nice guys as usual for the H-D community in SE Asia – now Asia too.

Had a good visit – took pictures met shop mechanic from Baltimore Md. Gen sales mgr etc.
They have three meals a day catered for employees – joined them for lunch – good dishes.
Will do a story on riding in China – not as easy as US. License–roads — plates – all issues

At the Jade factory we learned about all the good luck it can bring when worn correctly.
When at the Ming tombs we learned about good fortune by stepping through the gate correctly and Feng Shuay. Then at the tea factory we had a chance to buy tea that promised long life – big money – best health, etc., etc., etc.

I guess this is why the Chinese ALL live forever, are so happy and have so much money. NOT !!

That’s about it for now – Not sure what I will do tonight – I am toured out for today –
Maybe I need a massage – that sounds like a good idea

–Art

THE SEARCH FOR NUMBERS–Unfortunately MIC doesn’t track that key statistic, but should! What I can tell you is that the owner profile by age is as follows:
2008 m/c owners under 18 4%, 18-24 11%
2003 m/c owners under 18 4%, 18-24 11%
1998 m/c owners under 18 4% 18-24 10%
1990 m/c owner under 18 8% 18-24 16%

Depending on how you phrase the question, the total number of 18 year-olds should turn up in the Census reports.

–Robin Hartfiel

MORE ON THE V-TWIN EXPO–
And while the changing face of the V-Twin Expo is but a reflection of the recent downturn of the motorcycle industry as a whole, the 2012 event still provided a valuable opportunity for companies to gain exposure for their new products as there was plenty of wheeling and dealing going down on the floor of the Duke Energy Center as new alliances were formed, friendships were strengthened, and innovative products for the V-Twin industry were debuted.

The bagger movement was well-represented at the show and was the topic of conversation at the Road Iron Review seminar. Here, Sinister Industries and John Shope show they are at the forefront of the big tire movement for baggers.
In addition to the action on the showroom floor, some insightful seminars were taking place in the upstairs rooms. We happened to catch the Road Iron Review featuring some of the best bagger builders around. The panel consisted of Cory Ness, Bagger Nation’s Paul Yaffe, Brian Klock, Tom Motzko of Drag Specialties, Jim Nasi, Dirk Hinsey from Bad Dad and Dave Perewitz. Many on this list also brought along some exemplary demonstrations of how far the bagger segment has progressed in a special section designated predominantly to custom baggers downstairs.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER AFTER PARTY FINDINGS–

Today we go over some ways to eliminate toxins that may have accumulated. To reduce your body’s toxic load:

Drink plenty of pure water.
Have regular bowel movements – eating a diet with plenty of whole grains and fresh, organic fruits and vegetables can promote healthy digestion.
Breathe clean air deeply.
Sweat – a sauna, steam bath or vigorous exercise can help promote sweating.
Try milk thistle (Silybum marianum). This herb may have beneficial, detoxifying effects, and supports optimal liver function. Look for extracts standardized to 70-80 percent silymarin, and take two capsules twice a day or as the label directs.

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF OUR WORTHLESS GOVERNMENT AND ITS LACK OF INTEREST IN PUBLIC WORKS–
ARE THERE NO GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES THAT WILL SPEAK UP OR DO SOMETHING?

THEY TAX OUR INCOME, OUR PURCHASES, TAX OUR LIQUOR AND EVEN OUR GROCERIES. WHERE DOES ALL OUR TAX MONEY GO?
JUST LOOK BELOW. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!

It’s a piece of shit. It needs immediate and urgent maintenance!

QUOTES FROM THE MASTER, THOMAS JEFFERSON–“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” — Thomas Jefferson

“It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.” — Thomas Jefferson

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

— Thomas Jefferson

“My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.”

— Thomas Jefferson

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.”

–Thomas Jefferson

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” — Thomas Jefferson

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

— Thomas Jefferson

“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” — Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property – until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”

CENSUS POPULATION GROWTH REPORT–The population grew at a faster rate in the older ages than in the younger ages.

The data presented in Table 1 also include the distribution of the population for selected age cat- egories. In the 2010 Census, the number of people under age 18 was 74.2 million (24.0 percent of the total population). The younger working-age population, ages 18 to 44, represented 112.8 million persons (36.5 percent). The older working-age population, ages 45 to 64, made up 81.5 million persons (26.4 percent). Finally, the 65 and over population was 40.3 million persons (13.0 percent).

Between 2000 and 2010, the popu- lation under the age of 18 grew at a rate of 2.6 percent. The growth rate was even slower for those aged 18 to 44 (0.6 percent). This contrasts with the substantially faster growth rates seen at older ages.

The population aged 45 to 64 grew at a rate of 31.5 percent. The large growth in this age group is primarily due to the aging of the Baby Boom population.2 Finally, the population aged 65 and over also grew at a faster rate (15.1 percent) than the population under age 45.

BIKERNET SECURITY DOGS WERE ALSO MIDDLE EASTERN ASSIGNED VETERANS—These photos were just released. Our dogs don’t generally talk about their tours overseas, but they can no longer hide their service to our country.

ALMOST GAME TIME—I’m scrambling to finish the post and relax for the big game. For some reason I’m going to miss football when the season ends. There is something about that escape for a couple of hours.

On the other hand, that two hours, maybe four a week I can put into projects for the year. I’m rapidly head toward a start date on my next book. I will post another chapter of World Run in the next week or so. Simon’s Big Bear interview will be launched tonight or tomorrow. I’m hoping Michel from Campagna trikes can ship me a frame to play with for our new Bonneville effort. A door has opened with the city, to work on the headquarters.

This could be an absolutely amazing year, and we’re already into February. I may try to duck a few events this year, so I can stay focused. Some of these projects have been years in the making. But this is the year to make major strides on the Headquarters, books, our Industry Council, and our Assalt Weapon II. Hang on.

Ride forever,

–Bandit
