Hey,
I was called by Tom Prewitt to his paint facility in Anaheim, California, called the Department of Customs. He’s worked with John Kosmoski and the House of Kolors since he was a kid. I got a kick out of checking out his facilities and some of his 31 projects including a ground up Ariel square four, several other bikes including a Triumph, an air-cooled 1933 Franklin inline six, a ’52 and ’53 Cad restorations, a complete ground up restoration of a 1948 rear-engine Tucker. It was a one year automobile brand, and when he is done, it will be the best existing Tucker. Some 57 were build and 47 are still around.
The owner has four Tuckers including number six which is considered the best. He searched for a restorer for eight years before deciding on Tom Prewitt and his son Jason. He’s also working to restore Jane Mansfield’s 1948 Bentley with a Hooper aluminum body, an amazing car.
So, the weekend was covered while the Cycle Source Editorial team was all over the Indian Larry block party in New York City. Then we will all fly out to Vegas for Bike Fest.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT TARDY STUDENT WEEKEND VOCABULARY LESSON–monad MON-ad, MOH-nad, noun:
— T.S. Eliot, Knowledge and Experience in the Philosophy of F.H. Bradley, 1916
— Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet, 1991
Monad comes from the Greek root mon- which is a variant of mono- which means “alone” or “single.”
BAD JOKE LIBRARY NOW OPEN–An 80-year-old rancher from Wyoming goes to the Mayo clinic in Rochester for a check-up.
The doctor is amazed at what good shape the guy is in and asks, “How do you stay in such great physical condition?”
“I’m from Wyoming and in my spare time I like to hunt and fish” says the old guy, “and that’s why I’m in such good shape. I’m up well before daylight riding herd and mending fences and when I’m not doing that, I’m out hunting or fishing. In the evening, I have a beer, a shot of whiskey and all is well.”
“Well” says the doctor, “I’m sure that helps, but there’s got to be more to it. How old was your father when he died?”
“Who said my Father’s dead ?”
The doctor is amazed. “You mean you’re 80 years old and your father’s still alive? How old is he?”
“He’s 100 years old,” says the old cowboy. “In fact he worked and hunted with me this morning, and had a little beer and that’s why he’s still alive. He’s a Wyoming rancher and he hunts and fishes too!”
“Well,” the doctor says, “that’s great, but I’m sure there’s more to it than that. How about your father’s father? How old was he when he died?”
“Who said my Grandpa’s dead ?”
Stunned, the doctor asks, “You mean you’re 80 years old and your grandfather’s still alive?”
“He’s 118 years old,” says the man.
The doctor is getting frustrated at this point, “So, I guess he went hunting with you this morning too?”
“No, Grandpa couldn’t go this morning because he’s getting married today.”
At this point the doctor is close to losing it. “Getting Married??? Why would a 118 year-old guy want to get married?”
“Who said he wanted to … ?

MOTORCYCLE DEATH STATS–This is a list of numbers of motorcycle deaths in U.S. by year from 1994 to 2010. United States motorcycle fatalities increased every year for 11 years since reaching a historic low of 2,116 fatalities in 1997, until a decline in 2009. In nine years motorcycle deaths more than doubled.
From 1980 motorcycle ownership among riders aged 40 and over increased dramatically, from 15.1 percent of all riders in 1980 to 43.7 percent in 1998. The mean engine displacement of the motorcycles involved in fatal crashes also increased, from an average engine size of 769 cc (46.9 cu in) in 1990, to 959 cc (58.5 cu in) in 2001, an increase of 24.7 percent.[2]
It has been suggested that the combination of older riders on higher-powered motorcycles might have been partially responsible for the increase in motorcycle deaths from the late 1990s until 2004.[2]
Half of motorcycle fatalities in single vehicle crashes relate to problems negotiating a curve prior to a crash—almost 60 percent of motorcyclist fatalities in single-vehicle crashes occur at night.[3]
In 2009 motorcycle fatalities in the US declined for the first time in 11 years. The yearly total dropped from 5,312 to 4,469.[1]
Automobile fatalities continued to decline for the seventh straight year.[4] A decline in recreational motorcycling due to the late-2000s recession might account for the decrease in accidents, according to the authors of a report by the Governors Highway Safety Association, but a state motorcyclists’ rights organization, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, said motorcycle use appeared to have increased, influenced by motorcycles’ better fuel economy.[5]
BIKERNET TAKES A QUIET RELIGIOUS MOMENT–There once was a religious young woman who went to Confession. Upon entering the confessional, she said, ‘Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.’
The priest said, ‘Confess your sins and be forgiven.’
The young woman said, ‘Last night my boyfriend made mad passionate love to me seven times.’
The priest thought long and hard and then said, ‘Squeeze seven lemons into a glass and then drink the juice.’
The young woman asked, ‘Will this cleanse me of my sins?’
The priest said, ‘No, but it will wipe that smile off of your face
A woman is at home when she hears someone knock at the door. She goes to the door and opens the door to see a man standing there.
He asks the lady ‘Do you have a vagina ?
She slams the door in disgust. The next morning she hears a knock at the door and it is the same man and he asks the same question of the woman ‘Do you have a vagina ?
She slams the door again. Later that night when her husband gets home she tells him what has happened for the last two days.
The husband tells the wife in a loving and concerned voice, “Honey I am taking tomorrow off to be home just in case this guy shows up again.”
The next morning they hear a knock at the door and both run for the door. The husband says to the wife in a whispered voice, ‘Honey, I’m going to hide behind the door and listen and if it is the same guy I want you to answer yes to the question because I want to see where he is going with it’.
She nods yes to her husband and opens the door. Sure enough the same fellow is standing there and asks the same question. Do you have vagina’……. Yes’ she says……
The man replies.. ‘Good! Would you mind telling your husband to leave my wife’s alone and start using yours ?’

ANNUAL ARRESTS FOR MARIJUANA HOLDS IN 2013—
According to the report, marijuana arrests comprise nearly half (48.3 percent) of the 1.5 million annual illicit drug arrests in the United States.
“As in past years, the so-called ‘drug war’ remains fueled by the arrests of minor marijuana possession offenders,” NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano said. “Cannabis prohibition financially burdens taxpayers, encroaches upon civil liberties, engenders disrespect for the law, impedes upon legitimate scientific research into the plant’s medicinal properties, and disproportionately impacts communities of color. It is time for lawmakers and law enforcement to listen to the voters and to stop stigmatizing and criminalizing tens of millions of Americans for choosing to consume a substance that is safer than either tobacco or alcohol.”
Of those charged in 2011 with marijuana law violations, 658,231 (86 percent) were arrested for marijuana offenses involving possession only. The remaining 91,593 individuals were charged with “sale/manufacture,” a category that includes virtually all cultivation offenses.
The arrest totals come at a time when numerous state and national polls indicate that strong majorities of American voters no longer support arresting or criminally prosecuting adults who possess or consume cannabis.
By region, the percentage of marijuana arrests was highest in the Midwest and in the South (52 percent and 51 percent of all illicit drug arrests respectively) and was lowest in the west, where cannabis violations comprised only 22 percent of total drug arrests.
For more information, please contact Allen St. Pierre, NORML Executive Director, at (202) 483-5500 or Paul Armentano, NORML Deputy Director, at: paul@norml.org.

AUSTRALIAN POLICE CAN’T MAKE THEIR ANTI-CLUB EFFORTS STICK SO GO AFTER THE TATTOO INDUSTRY—
An ABC 7.30 Report investigation claims to have found NSW motorcycle club members have a stranglehold on the booming tattoo industry, with violence, standover tactics, extortion and money laundering commonplace.
New South Wales cops say they “conservatively” estimate one-in-four tattoo parlours are biker affiliated in the state alone, with 189 crimes recorded at tattoo parlours over the past five years.
Offences include murder, armed robbery, arson, malicious damage and firearm offences.
Detective Superintendent Arthur Katsogiannis, Commander in Chief of the NSW Police Gangs Squad, told 7.30 the industry needs a shake up.
“Tattoo parlours are synonymous with outlaw motorcycle gangs,” he said.
In an effort to crack down on biker-related crime, the NSW Government recently introduced mandatory licensing laws for tattoo operators and artists.
From October 1, police will have sweeping new powers to raid tattoo parlours and search for firearms, drugs and explosives.
Det Supt Katsogiannis says bikers in the tattoo business are on borrowed time.
“It’s about breaking the stranglehold that outlaw motorcycle gangs have over the industry,” he said.
The new laws require everyone in the tattoo industry to provide detailed information about their personal associations and criminal history.
“We will know who’s operating the business, we will know who are the tattooists working from the business, we will have access to their books and records which will allow us to record the number of tattoos, the age of individuals getting the tattoos, we will have powers to enter tattoo parlours and look at those records,” Det Supt Katsogiannis said.
Bikers fight back against new laws
The crackdown comes as motorcycle club membership numbers around Australia are growing.
In NSW alone police claim there are more than 2,000 members, prospects and nominees of motorcycle clubs.
Police there say both nationally and internationally, recruitment and expansion is growing at a large rate.
Bikers have already used the courts to overturn anti-association legislation in New South Wales and South Australia, and they are engaged in a similar battle in Queensland.
Now, with just weeks left before the new licensing system comes into effect, they have vowed to take on the Tattoo Parlours Act in New South Wales.
Barrister Wayne Baffsky, who represents a group of motorcycle clubs, says there are legal grounds to challenge the law.
“If the reason a person is refused a licence is solely because they’re a member of a club or they have an association with someone who’s a member of a club, then I expect we’ll be taking that to the Supreme Court,” he said.
Outlaw clubs claim unfair treatment
Motorcycle clubs insist they are being targeted unfairly. They claim club membership does not equate to criminality.
Frank Perram, a long-time and proud member of the Finks motorcycle club, says he is not trying to hide anything.
“I’ve made no secret of the fact … when I spoke to the Department of Fair Trading last week I brought it up with them that I’m a member of a club,” he said.
Mr Perram owns two tattoo studios on Sydney’s northern beaches, has an Order of Australia Medal for his charity work, and has no criminal record.
He applied for his licence more than six months ago and says he has not got it yet.
“I can guess (why), but I can’t answer that … and I don’t want to guess,” he said.
Law enforcers around the country are watching closely what is happening in New South Wales.
On Queensland’s Gold Coast, MP Ray Stevens is pushing for a similar crackdown. He says in his electorate, tattoo parlours are a front for money laundering.
“It is a great opportunity for them to clean some of their money and turn dirty money through private companies, pay the tax, and then it becomes clean and they can invest that in legitimate businesses,” he said.
Det Supt Katsogiannis says motorcycle clubs often make their dirty money through manufacturing and distributing illegal drugs.
“And by having the tattoo parlours opening, they can put some of the income derived from those illegal practices and declare it as income through the tattoo parlour which then legitimises that particular income … when in fact, it’s come from criminal means,” he said.
Caught in the crosshairs
Tony Cohen is a legend of Sydney’s tattoo scene and is the face behind The Illustrated Man. He has been in the business for 40 years and says he has seen turf wars between rival clubs and tattoo parlours as long as he can remember.
“There’s always been tattoo wars for years and years and years and now it’s escalating,” he said.
“Beating each other up, annoying people and trying to get people out of business because they’ve opened up next door.”
Mr Cohen says the new laws will just push the industry underground. He says he has learnt that to stay in the game, you keep your head down.
“I don’t associate with other tattoo shops. This is a family business. We keep to ourselves. It’s a tough industry and always has been,” he said.
Arson attacks at a tattoo parlour just a few kilometres from Mr Cohen’s studio show how tough that industry can be.
In April last year, the former head of the Nomads motorcycle club went to jail for an attack on a police van parked outside his own tattoo studio, Skin Deep.
Months later, security cameras inside that same studio showed an intruder smashing through the window, spreading an accelerant and setting fire to the studio.
Det Supt Katsogiannis says, inevitably, police investigating crimes like this come up against a wall of silence.
“The victims do not want to make any formal statements to police for fear of retribution from these outlaw motorcycle gangs … or organized criminal networks,” he said.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN ON SUNDAYS–I came home from the golf course today.
The wife had left a note on the fridge:
“IT’S NOT WORKING. I can’t take it anymore!
Gone to stay with my Mother.”
I opened the fridge. The light came on, and the beer
was cold, why is she so hysterical?
I never know what the hell she is talking about….

NEW TRAVEL BOOK EFFORT-–
I was reading your article just the other day about the Royal Enfield run into the Himalayas and remember as I traveled to Africa of finding several riders from Namibia and even Angola on Royal Enfields! I’m hoping you will find a way to include a mention of my project, my book and the beauty of traveling on my motorcycle anywhere all over the world!
A few years ago I quit my job and got on my motorcycle and proceeded to ride around the world–alone.
After three years, 62,000 miles through 35 countries on five continents, I decided to return home. It was quite an adventure. An amazing story.
For the last three years I’ve been writing a book that brings to life this journey. It’s an oversized, full-color coffee-table style book with photos, stories and food from each of the 35 countries I visited.
The book is called:
FORKS.
A Quest for Culture, Cuisine, and Connection
Three Years, Five Continents, One Motorcycle
I’ve invested nearly everything I’ve in writing and producing this book. It’s ready to go to be published and will be available later this year.
I’m publishing this book in the same manner I set out on this journey — alone.
Rather than compromise my vision and give in to publishers concerns, I have personally funded the entire production of the book to date. To print it, and to offer pre-sales preorders, I’ve turned to the popular crowd-funding site Kickstarter.
So, this Monday, September 23rd I’m launching this Kickstarter campaign. Will you help me share this story with your readers and post news of the book and the Kickstarter campaign on your site–share it with your friends and followers on social media?
Even in Syria I connected with motorcyclists. Many were riding old Czech Jawas. In Sudan many rode cheap Chinese bikes–about all they can get there. In all of these cases, the brand never mattered, as they are all bikers. It’s the ride and the community that counts.
Timing is critical. I’ve got less than 30 days to reach my goal. That’s where I need your help. I need the support next week–as early as Monday, if possible.
I invite you to take a look at the Kickstarter preview page — the project isn’t live yet, but you can see it before we launch:
· Kickstarter: http://worldri.de/bkrblgs
· WorldRider: http://worldri.de/r-site
· Digital Media Kit: http://forksthebook.com/media-kit
I have a 30 second video where I introduce the name of the book — if you want to check it out: https://vimeo.com/73412517

BIKERNET PHILOSOPHER LOOKS TO CHANGE-– Over the years I have learned that change is inevitable, there is good change and there is bad change, there are changes I can make and changes that are far beyond my power.
I Love the words of the Serenity Prayer “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.” Over the years I have learned to embrace change that I have no control over, for instance we will lose people in our lives through death or parting of the ways. I have learned to be thankful for the experience and the lessons I have learned from them.
Many years ago I had a friend who was one of my mentors pass away, I saw him the day before he passed, but I was too busy to stop and talk for a minute and the next day he was gone. I beat myself up for a long time for not finding 5 minutes to talk to him, as time went on I learned from this lesson that no matter how busy I might be I can find a minute to talk to someone I care about. I could not change his passing but I changed how I treat people close to me.
Other changes that we have choices over is to quit doing things that don’t make sense like working at something we hate, being in a relationship that is bad, eating foods that are not healthy for us, or whatever we do that is not working. Unfortunately many of us would rather be in an uncomfortable rut than put the effort into making the change.
Some of us are held back by fear, in my early years I was paralyzed by the fear of change today I embrace it. I have learned if the change doesn’t work I can change again until it does.
And So It Is
Namaste’
The definition of insanity is to keep doing what you are doing and expect a change, not gonna happen.

ACCELERATION EXPLAINED— * One Top Fuel dragster outfitted with a 500 cubic-inch replica Dodge (actually Keith Black, etc)
Hemi engine makes more horsepower (8,000 HP) than the first 4 rows of cars at NASCAR’s Daytona 500.
* Under full throttle, a dragster engine will consume 11.2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded Boeing 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate but with 25% less energy being produced.
* A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to merely drive the dragster’s supercharger.
* With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lockup at full throttle.
* At the stoichio metric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F.
* Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases.
* Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. Which is typically the output of an electric arc welder in each cylinder.
* Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 way thru the run, the engine is ‘dieseling’ from compression and the glow of the exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.
* If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with enough sufficient force to blow the cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half !!
* Dragsters reach over 300 MPH +… before you have completed reading this sentence.
* In order to exceed 300 MPH in 4.5 seconds, a dragster must accelerate an average of over 4 G’s.
In order to reach 200 MPH well before reaching half-track, at launch the acceleration approaches 8 G’s.
* Top Fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light!
* Including the burnout, the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load.
* The redline is actually quite high at 9500 RPM.
* THE BOTTOM LINE: Assuming all the equipment is paid for, the pit crew is working for free, & NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run will cost an estimated $1,000 per second.
0 to 100 MPH in .8 seconds (the first 60 feet of the run)
0 to 200 MPH in 2.2 seconds (the first 350 feet of the run)
6 g-forces at the starting line (nothing accelerates faster on land)
6 negative g-forces upon deployment of twin ‘chutes at 300 MPH
An NHRA Top Fuel Dragster accelerates quicker than any other land vehicle on earth . .
quicker than a jet fighter plane . . . quicker than the space shuttle….or snapping your fingers !!
The current Top Fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.420 seconds for the quarter-mile (2004, Doug Kalitta).
The top speed record is 337.58 MPH as measured over the last 66′ of the run (2005, Tony Schumacher).
Let’s now put this all into perspective:
You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the ‘Vette hard, on up through the gears and blast across the starting line & pass the dragster at an honest 200 MPH…. The ‘tree’ goes green for both of you at that exact moment.
The dragster departs & starts after you. You keep your foot buried hard to the floor, and suddenly you hear an incredibly brutally screaming whine that seares and pummels your eardrums & within a mere 3 seconds the dragster effortlessly catches & passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter-mile away from where you just passed him. Think about it –from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 MPH…..and it not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the planet when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot long race !!!!

HOUSEHOLD INNOVATION OF THE WEEK--Guy Comes Home To Find Beer Flowing Out Of Every Tap In His House
By Anthea Quay, 19 Sep 2013
A group of guys in New Zealand decided to play a prank on one of their good friends, Russ—which involved secretly plumbing his home, so that beer came out of every tap.
Commissioned by New Zealand beer brand Tui, Russ’ pals snuck into his house while he was out, to plumb in kegs of beer, and wire hidden cameras to catch their unsuspecting friend’s reaction.

Gennifer Flowers, the woman who claimed to have had a years-long sexual relationship Bill Clinton, has said in a new interview that he told her his wife Hillary was bisexual.
Flowers told the Daily Mail that she wasn’t surprised about the rumors of an affair between Hillary Clinton and longtime aide Huma Abedin, the wife of ex-congressman and failed New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner.
“I don’t know Huma or the Weiners. I just know what Bill told me and that was that he was aware that Hillary was bisexual and he didn’t care. He should know,” Flowers said, according to the Daily Mail.

According to the Daily Mail, Flowers also claimed she and the former president would still be together had it not been for the birth of Bill and Hillary’s daughter Chelsea Clinton.
But Flowers also said she would support Hillary Clinton should she decide to run for president.

BIKERNET BAD BLONDE JOKE OF THE WEEKEND–Of all the blonde jokes, this one has to be one of the best — because it makes football make sense!
A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team’s bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked it.
“Oh, I really liked it,” she replied, “especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but…
I just couldn?t understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents.”
Dumbfounded, her boyfriend asked, “What do you mean?”
“Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was…
‘Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!’
I’m like…Helloooooo?
It’s only 25 cents!!!!”

NEVER ENDS—The news never ends on Bikernet. We have the Sunday Post, then the Bikernet Blog takes over until Thursday, then the Blog and the Sunday Post again. Never a dull moment.
I got to thinking about this new Republican effort to fix the deficit and something dawned on me. Someone called to survey me and two questions went like this, “Should we fix the deficit and by doing so tank the government and cut social security checks, or not”
What does that say about the federal government? It says that they can’t fix anything without fucking you. How am I supposed to feel about that? What does that say about Obamacare. If they can’t balance the budget how the hell can they take over healthcare. Which begs one more question. Don’t you think a wise Chief would fix the financial side of our government before he took on one of the largest industries in the country? That would seem the prudent thing to do. Good god.
Okay, no wonder I try to ignore the government most of the time and focus on the Bikernet survival guide and our 2014 Bonneville effort. I’m going to go for a ride later today, then hit the screenplay again. It’s all about a brother coming back from WWI and trying to keep his dealership afloat while boardtrack racing.
It’s a time of change and control freaks who don’t want riders to have a good time. Coming up on Bikernet, we have motorcycle history from New Zealand, an interview with the guy who organized the ride on 9/11 Washington, and wild features. We will take a tour of the new Samson facility in South Dakota. The Triking Viking is riding a new Ultra Classic, and we are waiting on the Rivera clutch tech install in a Westminster H-D trike. Oh, and a new Girl of Bikernet is just around the corner from David Campbell. Let’s go for a ride.
