Hey,
Daytona is in full swing and we have reports rolling in already. Folks ask all the time, if I’m coming to Daytona. Here’s a taste of Sunday at the headquarters. We’re rocking rapidly on the Sunday Post, which includes our Bikernet Blog, comments manager, and answering e-mails.
We are working on the Mudflap girl bikes, our 15th Anniversary logo with the master artist George Fleming, and refining the concept drawing for our FXRs with Chris Kallas.
Tomorrow an official from the City of Los Angeles is coming over to tell us what needs to be done to turn the front of the Bikernet Headquarters into a coffee shop or a tattoo parlor. So we need to clean this joint some.
Out front the city is ripping up the streets to add new signal sensors and widen both corners, Broad Ave, and Harry Bridges. You wouldn’t believe how the building shakes, while I try to get the city to give us a grant to refurbish the exterior of the building and paint a Wilmington Mural on the side. So, I ain’t making it to Daytona this year, but we will bring your reports from the Streets from Rogue and from 2Wheelers shop on main. Let’s hit the news before Sin Wu asks me to wash her car:
TWO CLASSICS FOR SALE, QUICK– He are some pictures of the ’47 Knuckenstein and the ’38 ULH that I have for sale. Belly numbers don’t match on either bike. Both have fresh
motors and are good everyday riders. I’d like $16500 for either bike…

FOUR SNACKS FOR WEIGHT LOSS– Eating small, healthful meals throughout the day not only helps keep blood sugar levels stable and energy levels high, but can also help prevent overeating and promote a healthy weight. Start by making your main meals smaller in size and stocking up on healthy, satisfying snack items to round out your day. Good choices include:
1. Fresh or lightly steamed veggies
2. Hummus with whole wheat pita
3. Seasonal fruit with good-quality yogurt and freshly ground flaxseed
4. Whole grain crackers with a small piece of cheese or smoked salmon
These healthy snacks also have the added benefit of being part of the anti-inflammatory diet that I recommend, and can help reduce the incidence of inflammation-related diseases.

EXCLUSIVE TO BIKERNET–I ran into Frank White recently. He’s been building foreign dirt bikes for a long time, but recently developed a line of V-twins. He’s convinced that H-D dealerships need an entry level motorcycle, like the Blast, at a price folks can afford.
He stopped by recently and brought a 250 cc test bike that goes for about 4 grand. He’s making the rounds of Los Angeles dealers and magazine guys to promote his line directly to dealers, since the factory won’t be too happy about his efforts. The components are manufactured in Korea and shipped to the United States for assembly. We will keep you abreast of the ATK new model situation.
Attached is a picture of the bike at a local Harley Dealership.
“This bike is intended for beginner riders and women who like the Harley Cruiser Styling,” said Frank. “People who see the motorcycle, think it’s a 500 or 600cc motorcycle due to the chassis size. I rode the bike at 7000 feet in Utah for 200 miles at 70 mph. (Top speed is near 90)”
The seat height is the ideal height for women who participate in the Harley Riders Edge program. Women are tired of being the “bitch” and want their own bike these days. With gas approaching $4-$5 gal we will have an new emerging customer base.
People are surprised how low the MSRP is at $3,995.
MSRP $ 4,295 (EFI)
*$ 3,995 (Carburetor)

AUSTRALIAN COPS SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE — The Western Australian police commissioner Karl O’Callaghan, says the removal of heavy fortification at a Perth motorcycle groups clubhouse will enable police to respond more effectively to organised crime activities.
Members of the Coffin Cheaters MC have four weeks to remove so called fortifications at their Bayswater clubhouse before police forcibly remove them. Last year police applied to the Corruption and Crime Commission to serve a fortification warning notice on the club.
Mr O’Callaghan says lawyers for the Coffin Cheaters have indicated the club will comply with the directions.
“What they actually have to do is remove the railway sleepers from the front and side of the perimeter fence which in some parts is two meters high so that’s got to go, security and surveillance cameras, sensor beams, and solid core internal and external doors,” he said.
Mr O’Callaghan says the legal win sends a clear message to organised crime groups.
He says forcing the removal of the fortifications is one strategy in managing organised crime.
“Because they’re premises which we believe are kept for unlawful purposes we need to be able to get in their quickly and conduct things like searches so it’s not the strategy it’s just one thing which enables us to respond to the problem of organised crime better, quicker and more effectively and obviously get convictions which is what we want to do,” he said.

Yesterday the pro’s at Hardtailz in San Jose removed the top end to check the head gaskets for a proper seal, Jeff and Ron discovered that both head gaskets were starting to leak after 4,000 miles with the Aerocharger Turbo on a well seasoned 75,000 mile lower end. We also discovered the rocker arm support plate in the front head was broken into two pieces and the lower end is just a little loose after a mere 80,000 miles on a daily ridden, coast to coast, drag strip tested, Bonneville 2x record setter.
Fresh pistons, rings and head gaskets were installed when we added the Turbo set-up in early Aug. for the B U B Bonneville Speed Trials in 2010. Since Bonneville and 90 days of non-riding due to an eye surgery, the hot rod has rolled from NorCal to SoCal many times accumulating over 4,000 miles.
My hot rod has been meticulously maintained by Ron, Jeff and the crew at Hardtailz in San Jose, Ca. The motor and tune up have never missed a beat, sniveled or left me stranded during many cross country trips or during a couple of brief WFO periods while practicing near stealth quiet evading techniques, traction and throttle control.
SOLUTION..
Were shipping the motor to Hyperformance for a complete bottom-end-up rebuild, a fresh set of S&S 41/8″ cylinders, CP Piston will machine two sets (std. and .005 over), of fresh 8.1 compression pistons for the rebuild with thicker crowns to assist in preventing melt downs during high boost periods of total fukin’ insanity, while the front wheel is reaching for the moon ya gently click into 3rd gear… Warp speeds are approaching fast, 4th gear at 5,200 (short shift and stay in the power zone)..160 plus and the sunrise is approaching.
UP COMING..
Looking forward to attending the CCI trade show in Santa Clara the 19th and 20th even though the hot rod is down for maintenance.

NEW JERSEY BLUE LAW GOES AWAY, FOREVER– New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has signed legislation ending the state’s blue law banning sales of powersports vehicles on Sundays.
State Sen. Donald Norcross, D-5, Camden, sponsored the bill that Christie signed yesterday.
“With our dealerships closed for business on Sunday, consumers were heading across the river to make their purchases at bike shops in neighboring states,” Norcross told the Gloucester County Times. “Especially in this economy, we need to give businesses the tools they need to remain competitive.”
Counties, most notably Bergen, may keep their Sunday sales bans locally. The measure does not affect the state’s Sunday ban on automobile sales.

BUSINESS OWNERS TURN ATTENTION TO BIKERS– Bikers get their chance to take over Daytona Beach.
With Speed Weeks successfully concluded, area business owners, hoteliers and tourism officials in Volusia and Flagler counties look forward to the 70th Bike Week, running Friday through March 13, hoping great weather will draw northern bikers and the rising economy will loosen their wallets.
Bike Week brings in an estimated 500,000 people and more than $300 million, according to the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“Certainly, 30 million people seeing the Daytona 500 (on TV) and the beautiful 80 degree weather should help,” said Gary Brown, owner of the Sun Viking Lodge.
Brown said Wednesday that Bike Week reservations were about on par with last year so far, but he was hopeful he’d be ahead as Bike Week nears.
“They’re a group that makes last-minute reservations,” he said.
Tim Stockman, a vice president with hotel management group Inner Circle, said some properties are getting close to sold out already.
“We’re looking at some very strong bookings,” Stockman said. “It looks like people are booking a little bit earlier than they have been in the past few years, which we feel is a very good economic indicator.”
To the north in Flagler, business leaders expect the racing momentum to continue with bikers looking for a different experience.
“We’re coming right off race weeks when a lot of the hotels were full and a lot of the restaurants were full,” said Doug Baxter, president of the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates. But since bikers are in the area to ride, they are more mobile than race fans, he said.
“People like to get away from the busyness of Daytona,” Baxter said. “We’re seeing more and more people gravitating up to Flagler County each year. Our campgrounds are doing real well, too.”
Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau President Janet Kersey said area hotels in general were fuller than last year for Speed Weeks, which bodes well for Bike Week. She agreed the races gave Daytona’s weather good publicity.
“It just made the Daytona Beach Area very beautiful to people who are probably knee-deep in snow,” she said.
For the bureau’s part, Kersey said it is using online marketing and social media to tell bikers about some of the more off-the-beaten-track things they can do for Bike Week.
“We’ve positioned it more like a vacation on two wheels,” she said.
So far, Kersey said, inquiries and bookings for Bike Week have been up from 2010.
Bob Davis, president and CEO of the Hotel and Lodging Association of Volusia County, said the feedback he’d heard from hotels indicated most of them were up a little during Speed Weeks from 2010. He’d heard good things about the upcoming event, too.
“They say reservations are really coming in now,” Davis said. “The phones are starting to ring big-time for Bike Week.”
Mandy Rossmeyer Campbell of Destination Daytona Harley-Davidson couldn’t discuss specific sales figures, but she said heavy traffic during Speed Weeks had the dealership excited to welcome the bikers.
“Everything will be ready to go, and because it’s the 70th year, we have great expectations,” she said.
Carl Morrow of Carl’s Speed Shop on Beach Street said he doesn’t usually get much traffic from Speed Weeks, and this year wasn’t any different. But he’s hopeful bikers will turn out in force for Bike Week.
“Everybody being frozen in up north like that, they probably will all have cabin fever, I bet,” he said.
Morrow said he doesn’t have a specific sales goal, but is looking to do better than last year.
“We’ll be grateful for all the ones we can get, and we don’t want to jinx ourselves by a number we may not live up to,” he said.
At Pub 44 in New Smyrna Beach, manager Chip Dinker was equally optimistic, although he said Speed Weeks was about on par with last year.
“If the weather is as good as it’s going to be, it’s going to be the best Bike Week in 10 years,” Dinker said. “That’s our forecast, and hopefully we’re right.”

BIKERNET FARM MEMO FROM SENIOR FARMER– He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple, and peach trees.
One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn’t been there for a while, and look it over.
He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.
As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond.
He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, ‘we’re not coming out until you leave!’
The old man frowned, ‘I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked.’
Holding the bucket up he said, ‘I’m here to feed the alligator…’
Some old men can still think fast.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY SUNDAY WORD OF THE DAY FOR THE MIDDLE EAST–demagogue DEM-uh-gog, noun:
1. A leader who obtains power by means of impassioned appeals to the emotions and prejudices of the populace.
2. A leader of the common people in ancient times.
This was to have held a sculpture of a Roman charioteer driving four horses, but the work was never completed, leaving behind what looks like a diving board or a futurist balcony, ideally suited for a demagogue exhorting a throng below.
— Michael Z. Wise, “A Fascist Utopia Adapted for Today”, New York Times
A consummate demagogue, McCarthy played upon cold war emotions and made charges so fantastic that frightened people believed the worst.
— Arthur Herman, Joseph McCarthy
Even when he showed his true colors as a demagogue and trickster, Stalin did so in such a crisp and weighty, confidence-inspiring manner that he bewitched not only his conversational partner but himself as well.
— Milovan Djilase, Fall of the New Class, July 11, 1999
Demagogue derives from Greek demagogos, “a leader of the people,” from demos, “the people” + agogos, “leading, one who leads,” from agein, “to lead.”

OKAY, SO NO DAYTONA FOR THE BANDIT–So that means you’ll see a feature on Jennifer next week from Jerry Southworth. The sharp Sporty was built by Jason Summer, of Salt Lake. It’s going to be a week of Sportsters with another Sporty feature from Peter Linney shot on the beach in Long Beach, California.
Then I promised the Harmon frame hot rod feature from Denco Custom in BC. Plus we’ll have reports from Daytona, as if I was there stumbling from Party to party.
Hell, hopefully we will bring you the second Mudflap girl FXR choppers build as the Spitfire frames and girder front ends are finished. So it’s never a dull moment around here, whether we’re on the road or sequestered in the Port of Los Angeles ghetto.
Ride forever,
