Hey,
Another crazy day on the wet coast during the CCI show. Ray Wheeler is on his way back from the Morgan Hill show while we wrap up the news.
When I asked him what was hot, he immediately proclaimed, “The new salt flats Wink Eller bike.” Ray has a one track mind. But dig his name: Ray C. Wheeler. That’s his real name and racing is in his blood. But he was also excited about the return of STD. “That’s huge,” Ray said. “They are building some very hot engine products.”
We will bring you all the show scoop next week. In the meantime we were charging the battery in the 250 cc ATK V-twin for a road test. Every time a kid wanders into the Bikernet shop, he or she is impressed with this little inexpensive monster, so we decided to give it a shot. It sells for around $3,950 and Frank is hoping to have them sold in H-D dealerships as an entry-level scooter. We’ll bring you a road test as soon as this fuckin’ weather clears. Let’s hit the news:

This year’s celebration also proved a success for Hot Leathers, the industry leader in motorcycle apparel who is synonymous for offering the best selection of motorcycle merchandise in stores, online and on the road who managed to maintain a large presence during this year’s unprecedented rally.
One of their first stops of the 2011 rally season, Hot Leathers managed to stay very busy during the legendary ten day festival. Not only did they feature a number of impressive and strategically located booths where they showcased their premier products, Hot Leathers also acted as official merchandiser for the renowned festival.
In addition to acting as presenting sponsor for the event, Hot Leathers also took the stage at one point to unveil the 2011 Motorcycles as Art exhibition theme and logo. Together with the Legendary Buffalo Chip and celebrated motorcycle artist and photographer, Michael Lichter, this year’s internationally renowned exhibit is entitled, “Slant Artist-An Eccentric View of Motorcycles as Art” and will focus on the works of artist, Jeff Decker. Also unveiled was the new exhibit logo, created by the innovative minds at Hot Leathers.

2011 Speedweek Cancelled– It is with great disappointment and regret that we must inform all supporters, fans and media that Jake Dolan’s World Land Speed record attempt on the Catavolt Eken Powerbike, is over before it began.
Wet weather last night at Lake Gairdner in north South Australia, has flooded the lake circuit and also cut off the access road, actually trapping some competitors on the circuit.
The event is beyond postponement, so has officially been cancelled.
To say the team is devestated by this shock news, is an understatement.
We are down, but not out.
Please look for more news soon.

THE ITALIAN MISTRESS– An Italian husband and wife were having dinner at a very fine restaurant when this absolutely stunning young woman comes over to their table, gives the husband a big open-mouthed kiss, then says she’ll see him later and walks away.
The wife glares at her husband and says, “Who was that?”
“Oh,” replies the husband, “she’s my mistress.”
“Well, that’s the last straw,” says the wife. “I’ve had enough, I want a divorce!”
“I can understand that,” replies her husband, “but remember, if we get a divorce it will mean no more shopping trips to Paris , no more wintering in Barbados , no more summers in Tuscany , no more Jaguar in the garage and no more yacht club. No more credit card and large Bank accounts. But…. the decision is all yours.”
Just then, a mutual friend enters the restaurant with a gorgeous babe on his arm.
“Who’s that woman with Tony?” asks the wife.
“That’s his mistress,” says her husband.
“Ours is prettier,” she replies.

BIKERNET STAFF TECHNICAL CONSULTANT MOVES FROM MOTORCYCLES TO OIL COMPANY–Another H-D motorcycle tech moves to space exploration during economic downturn–,
Not too bad for a dumb Harley mechanic right?
Dear Neil,
Thank you for submitting your application for a summer internship in the 2011 NASA/GSFC Lunar & Planetary Science Academy (LPSA) in Greenbelt, Maryland. I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an intern for the LPSA for the coming summer. You will be working on the project “Dust Mitigation of Mirror Surfaces using SPARCLE” with your mentor, Mr. Fred Minetto.
“A critical problem with space telescopes is the maintenance of contamination free and dust free surfaces. We propose to test the efficacy of electron beams in the cleaning of optical surfaces. We have already demonstrated the effectiveness of electron beams at removing massive amounts of dust from contaminated surfaces at close range using the GSFC patent –protected SPARCLE/SPARCLED (Space Plasma Alleviation of Regolith Concentrations in Lunar Environments by Discharge) Exploration funded technology development. Thus the proposed work would be heavily leveraged off of the hardware built and high vacuum techniques developed for the SPARCLE/SPARCLED effort.
A proof of concept has been observed with the solar wind cleaning of the mirrors on the STEREO spacecraft. However, the applicability of this natural cleaning process is extremely limited since the telescope is required to stare directly at the Sun. The electron beam gun of SPARLE/SPARCLED can serve as a potential solar wind surrogate and maintain optical surface cleanliness.
The major question to be explored here is the adaptability of this technology to cleaning mirror surfaces. This would require the electron gun to be much farther from the surface for complete coverage and also to have an appropriately lower gun luminosity, since the optical systems to be cleaned would be much less contaminated than planetary/ NEO surface explorer surfaces. The intern would support a series of “hands on” tests that will be designed and conducted in vacuum using modified SPARCLE/SPARCLED technology on representatively contaminated optical surfaces. Design improvements will be investigated as experimentation progresses. Resulting research shall produce a prototype that will demonstrate the capability for mirror cleaning.”
This is Neal’s story, what he is doing for his future. This is his path taken for a career change during this economic downturn. I have worked with Neal and know him well. He will succeed.
My story might be leading me to Williston, ND. The Oil Fields. They are looking for truck drivers with a good clean class “A” CDL license. There is a ton work up there. If a person can stand the cold and snow you will make some cash!
There is hope for those who want to work. You just have to where the work is.
As always I will keep you informed.

AN OD TO YOU MY BROTHERS– Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says, “Oh Crap, He’s up!”
Brother, life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forgive the ones who don’t just because you can.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it.
Take a few minutes to think before you act when you’re mad. Forgive quickly.
No one said life would be easy, but it is worth it!
Today is Brother’s day, send this to all your brothers, fathers, sons, nephews, cousins, uncles, friends, etc.
–Happy Brothers Day!
I LOVE YA BROTHER!
To the cool men that have touched my life. Here’s to you!
A real Brother walks with you when the rest of the world walks on you.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT Word of the Day for Sunday, March 20, 2011–
largess lar-ZHES; lar-JES; LAR-jes, noun;
also largesse:
1. Generous giving (as of gifts or money), often accompanied by condescension.
2. Gifts, money, or other valuables so given.
3. Generosity; liberality.

— Stacy Schiff, “Otherwise Engaged”, New York Times, March 19, 2000
The recipients of Johnson’s largesse were understandably indifferent to what propelled him.
— Robert Dallek, Flawed Giant: Lyndon Johnson and His Times, 1961-1973
We need to step up with vast largesse for the Japanese people, you cheap bastards. –Bandit to the Bikernet staff 2011
A swelling chorus has arisen recently to complain that the PRI has been up to its old tricks, showering voters with largesse (ranging from washing machines to bicycles and cash).
— “Mexico’s vote”, Economist, June 24, 2000
Largess is from Old French largesse, “largeness, generosity,” from large, from Latin largus, “plentiful, generous.”

AIM/NCOM MOTORCYCLE E-NEWS SERVICE–Visiting Senator Dave Zien at the hospital, James “Doc” Reichenbach, Chairman of the NCOM Board of Directors, reports that Dave is alert and preparing for extensive surgery on his fractured hip, but remains in good spirits and already talking about riding again.
“Please thank everyone for their well-wishes and for keeping me in their hearts,” Zien said, adding “I’m lucky to be alive.”
— Vicki Roberts-Sanfelipo
To anyone who cares about Dave Zien & wishes to see him get well:
Dave’s condition is fragile. He remains in ICU. The biggest issue that is going on is the continuous violation of privacy by well meaning people. The family & hospital are pleading with you – PLEASE STOP CALLING & DO NOT ATTEMPT TO VISIT!!!!! This is doing more harm than… good. To get a message to Dave, send an e-mail to vicki@accidentscene.org.

HOLY SHIT, HYPERFORMANCE 222ci motor–HYPERFORMANCE has completed building a 222ci V-twin motor, which will be used to power a street legal Pro-Street bike in Thailand.
The motor, built for Mario Kleff, is said to produce 290hp / 300lbs torque.
The Street Pro Motor, the fourth built by the company, is based on a set of Duex crank cases which have been machined by Hyperformance to make them suitable for the large capacity of the engine, which runs 5-5/16in bore and 5in stroke. The bottom end held in the cases was manufactured by Paul Matyka of Riverside Cycle and features double tapered Timken bearings for the crank and CNC machined billet steel conrods.
The pistons from Ross carry rings by Hastings and are in cylinders from Hyperformance. These are topped off with R&R Cycle Pro Racing heads, which have been modified by Hyperformance. In order for the motor to be used on the street, the heads have had extra fins welded and bolted on to provide cooling. Inside the heads, Jessel automotive rocker arms are controlled by an Andrews cam and custom 14in pushrods from Smith Brothers, and act on Ferrea valves and springs. The intake ports are 2.45in and the exhaust 2in.
Fuel is fed to the engine via a pair of S&S Super D carbs with 2.15 in venture and there is a nitrous system installed too.
To deal with the power output of the engine Hyperformance machined a special pair of cradle plates that secure the Baker five-speed Torquebox to the motor, with shifting via a Pingel electric shifter. Power transfer is taken care of by a 5in Karata open belt drive, matched to a 13-plate clutch.
Additional detailing on the engine package includes a 1.9Kw Tech Cycle starter, two compression releases on each cylinder and a three-stage nitrous oxide system.

WOMEN GOTTA PEE– Two women friends had gone for a girls’ night out.
Both were very faithful and loving wives, however they had gotten over-enthusiastic on the Bacardi Breezers.
Incredibly drunk and walking home they needed to pee, so they stopped in the cemetery.
One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she would take off her panties and use them..
Her friend however was wearing a rather expensive pair of panties and did not want to ruin them.
She was lucky enough to squat down next to a grave that had a wreath with a ribbon on it, so she proceeded to wipe with that.
After the girls did their business, they proceeded to go home.
The next day, the husband of one of the women was concerned that his normally sweet and innocent wife was still in bed hung over, so he phoned the other husband and said:
“These girl nights have got to stop! I’m starting to suspect the worst. My wife came home with no panties!!”
“Thats nothing,” said the other husband,
“Mine came back with a card stuck to her ass that said…
From all of us at the Fire Station. Well never forget you.’
NEXT WEEK–Here’s the stuff etched on the Bikernet chalkboard for next week. I’m facing another HORSE, Brass Balls Sweepstakes bike build article deadline tomorrow. They’re just back from Daytona, and I’ll bet they’re scrambling. I have a short Rivera clutch tech to wrap up on Monday, if I can get some info from that bastard Ben Kudon.
I will launch the Denco Harman hot rod bike feature today, since it’s raining cats and dogs, or tomorrow. On Tuesday I’ll run out to Motorsport Wheels to work with the boss, Ron, on maybe becoming a Bikernet Sponsor, and ordering my FXR wheels. Then Wednesday afternoon I’ll roll over to Bennett’s Performance. We are going to tear down my new H-D Evo engine and prepare it for a new Andrews EV-27 Cam installation and Branch O’Keefe ported heads.
I’ll work on the next Mudflap girl article, and another antique bike feature is coming from the Sturgis Museum. Plus I’m working on three additional chapters for my 1%er book for Motorbooks. They like the book a lot, but want me to pack in more words.
Finally, next week we hope to make a run out to Spitfire to pick up our frames and front ends, so we can get charging on our Sturgis Mudflap girl bikes. Holy shit. Never a dull moment.
Ride Forever,
–Bandit
