FALL BACK SUNDAY POST

Hey,

Damn, we’re slamming directly into the holidays once more. The weather has gone to shit in big chunks of the country, and the bastards turned the clocks back, so it will get darker earlier. How does that make sense? We need more light in the winter.

Ah, but we always have the Sunday Post to look forward to, and this is a good one. It’s light and easy on the eyes. I don’t believe we face any heavy to negative shit, but I’ll let you be the judge. Here’s a hot flash. The Cannonball Rally will return in 2012. It will be a European Run, and most likely sponsored by Bikernet. We will bring you all the news and highlights.

Another hot flash. Amazon sold out of the Terry books. They are currently back ordered. We also received a report that several book stores around the country are sold out. We still have a few copies on hand.

Let’s hit it:

LATEST CREATION FROM RICK KROST–
“I built 16 one-off handmade parts for this bike (frame, front end, tanks, oil bag, wheels, bla, bla, bla),” said Rick, of U.S. Choppers, ” and the two items were US Choppers production pieces (trans plate and lower boomerangs).

“I worked hard 5 months on that bike and lost my ass and my shirt to build a bitchin bike for Gabe as he told me he saved for four years while in Afghanistan (Navy fireman) to have me build him a bike.”

Rick builds amazing vintage based custom bikes, one or two a year. Markus Cuff will shoot a feature on this bike next week, and we will shop around to find a magazine to feature it. Then it will be featured on Bikernet.

SALT SHAKER UPDATE–
Well, you know I need my daily fix of Bikernet. Really appreciate you guys. Hope you get the Salt Shaker going…of course you will. I really don’t know much about electronic ignitions, and now I’m going to have to do something about that. Might have been helpful about a mag.

We went to Bennett’s yesterday and discovered the issue. The distributor is turning the wrong direction for a cone-motor ignition. A distributor turns clockwise. The cone-style turns counter clockwise. I need another idler gear from S&S.

BIKIE BOSS FOUND GUILTY OF KILLING RIVAL IN SYDNEY AIRPORT BRAWL–
A BIKIE boss has been found guilty of murdering a rival gang member in a bloody brawl inside Sydney airport in front of scores of passengers and terminal staff.

National president of the Comanchero gang, Mahmoud “Mick” Hawi, 31, was convicted yesterday of the March 2009 murder of Anthony Zervas, the brother of Hells Angels member Peter Zervas.

Five other Comancheros were found not guilty of murdering Zervas, 29, in the Qantas domestic terminal after the brawl broke out between the gangs.

The Supreme Court jury deliberated for 21 days before returning its verdict at the hearing at Parramatta in Sydney’s west.

Mr Zervas suffered stab wounds and massive head injuries when he was attacked with bollards and kicked, punched and stomped on as he lay on the floor of the terminal.

The brawl erupted after a chance encounter between Hawi and Hells Angels boss Derek Wainohu on a flight from Melbourne. The court heard that phone calls was made by various Comancheros before other gang members arrived at the airport.

Hawi’s wife, Carolina Gonzales, burst into tears as she heard the verdicts being read out.

Among the other gang members involved in the brawl, Farres Abounader was found not guilty of murder, and the jury could not reach a verdict on the alternative charge of manslaughter.

Ishmail Eken was found not guilty of murder, manslaughter or affray, but was found guilty of rioting.

Zoran Kisacanin was found not guilty of murder or manslaughter, but guilty of rioting and affray.

Christian Menzies was found not guilty of murder, and the jury could not reach a verdict on the charge of manslaughter.

Menzies was found guilty of affray. Usama Potrus was found not guilty of murder or manslaughter, but guilty of rioting.

Hells Angel David Padovan was cleared of both riot and affray.

Four other Comancheros had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and affray and received sentences of between three and four years.

Hells Angels Peter Zervas and Phillip Ovalle had pleaded guilty to affray and received eight months and a suspended prison term, respectively. Hawi’s matter will return to court to determine a date for sentencing.

TRIPLE S HARLEY-DAVIDSON “HONORS THE BRAVE” THROUGH COLLECTIONS FOR USO– MORGANTOWN —
Veteran’s Day is November 11, but Harley Davidson is gathering support for our troops through the end of the year. Stores like Triple S Harley Davidson in Monongalia County are collecting donations to pay for care packages for troops through the United Services Organization (USO) until December 31.

“You come in, do your Christmas shopping, your holiday shopping whatever you need… just shopping for yourself. You can add any amount, any dollar amount on to your total,” explained Nicole Saffron at Triple S.
“One dollar, you can round up your change you can do $50. All of that goes into an account and we send it to the USO.”

It’s easy to spot the store’s support for the military. Just one look at the “Wall of Heroes” in the entry shows why Triple S takes part in the campaign.

“We wouldn’t be here, would have our freedoms and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the military,” Saffron said. “Plus some of our customers are military or they all know someone, everybody knows someone. It’s just really close to our hearts, I know it’s really close to the Harley Davidson Corporation.”

In addition to the USO collections, Triple S will host the Harley’s Heroes Tour which connects disabled veterans to resources on Sunday November 6.
“Professional counselors come and they help veterans submit for their benefits, file claims for their benefits, understand the benefits they’re entitled to,” Saffron said. “It’s an absolutely free service for anyone who has questions about their military benefits.”
That event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BIKERNET AND CYCLE SOURCE SHARE 965 LAZELLE IN STURGIS, ACROSS FROM EASYRIDERS–
I had an interesting opportunity land in my lap, so I developed a team, and hope to share it with my friends. I don’t know how you feel about your space in Sturgis, but we now have a 75 by 110 space directly across the street from the Easyriders club and Broken Spoke, 965 Lazelle. Chris Callen and I will handle the entertainment, no heavy rock bands, and Jeff Najar will handle marketing and booth spaces. He is also working to set up a service to provide help with taxes and license renewals.

The space prices will be very reasonable, and the Bikernet/Cycle Source Garage lot will be open from 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning until 2:00 a.m. Keep us in mind, if you are looking for a new Sturgis opportunity.

HOBART’S FIRST HARLEY FRANCHISE–
Bikes, bikini-clad calendar girls, grog, sausages, helium balloons and a rock and roll band are part of a $1.7 million Harley-Davidson franchise opening in Hobart this weekend.

Business owner Simon Hrycyszyn is opening a branch of his successful Launceston franchise, Richardson’s Harley-Davidson and no expense has been spared.

A state-of-the-art showroom, hi-tech workshop and outdoor stage area take up the whole block at the Elizabeth St site at North Hobart.
“The workshop at the back is as good as the shop at the front,” Mr Hrycyszyn said.

“You have to be able to eat your dinner off the workshop floor.”
With flowing silver locks, leather gear and jewellery, Mr Hrycyszyn, 54, does not fit the bill of the average millionaire.

His wife Merilyn, 55, wears a bikie jacket and skinny-leg jeans.
“Let us not be deceived by looks,” Mr Hrycyszyn said.
It will be a big celebration for Hobart Harley fans.

Until now, Hobart has been the only capital city in Australia without a Harley-Davidson franchise. Mr Hrycyszyn is Ukrainian. His surname is best pronounced Richardson in English.

“People couldn’t possibly get it together to spell it, let alone pronounce it,” Mrs Hrycyszyn said.

Which is why the business is called Richardson’s Harley-Davidson.
Mr Hrycyszyn began his entrepreneurial skills under his dad’s house in 1973. He worked two jobs a bread run and a motor mechanic apprenticeship mortgaged everything in 1979 and bought a $7000 block of land in the Launceston suburb of Prospect before travelling to the US and bringing back 35 LA Police Department bikes.

He brought 100 bikes into Tasmania that year and business started booming. Mr Hrycyszyn has been awarded Australia’s No. 1 Harley-Davidson dealership four years in a row. Funds raised from sales of the Richardson’s Harley-Davidson Charity calendar have helped build three Tasmanian devil enclosures at the Tasmania Zoo at Riverside.
Mr Hrycyszyn said he had duplicated some of his Prospect shop in the southern store but there were things unique to the Hobart franchise.

“The culture is different here, it’s more diversified but there’s a helluva lot of people riding bikes,” he said.

SUNDAY REPORT FROM THE BIKERNET PERFORMANCE DEPARTMENT–
Home again and it sure feels good, especially after hitting the ground running at full speed last Monday morning. Monday evening and Jet Blue’s one hour hop to the SEMA show in Vegas was short and sweet. After spending Tuesday at the show we took the afternoon flight Wednesday, destination, the piece of raisin pie we call home.

Last Thursday’ News has most of the gory details, but Saturday, yesterday, a small truck load of Cantina Back Stage Member packs hit the post office with destinations throughout the US and Malaysia. Let’s us know what you think?

2012 Member-get-together

The staff has spent hours in meetings mulling over ideas for a 2012 Cantina Member get together. There may be a possibility that a red hot location is developing in Sturgis and of course you will find us on the Bonneville salt a few days after Sturgis.

The Bikernet Shop news. 120-inch Panhead

While the hot rod is on the bench a fresh set of Pan gaskets are on order and a set of distributor drive gears from S&S will solve the will-not-start problem.
Here’s a shot of the precision, roller rockers and massive billet supports that are nestled under the billet pan covers.

97 inch Twin Cam, More Air!

Tuesday we’re meeting at Bennett’s Performance and Branch/O’Keefe shop to discuss the 97-inch Twin Cam build for my street Dyna. John at Darkhorse Cranks will prepare and ship a bullet proof lower end, the rods alone are a work of art. I’m shooting for a running motor by Dec. 1. The goal is just in time for a X-mas ride.

While we’re at Bennett’s we can meander next door and visit with the Branch/O’Keefe team where turning your heads into fire breathers that will run with the big boys is their job, and their among the best in the more-air-business. A set of Twin Cam re-worked heads with all of the bells and whistles is on the short list. More air is on the way.

Thinking of Veterans Day the 11th.
What the hell, salute a Vet! It might make ya feel good all over.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY WEEKEND FUCK-UPS STILL IN CLASS, WEEKEND WORD–
junket JUHNG-kit, noun:

1. A trip, usually by an official or legislative committee, paid out of public funds and ostensibly to obtain information.
2. A sweet, custardlike food of flavored milk curdled with rennet.
3. A pleasure excursion, as a picnic or outing.

verb:
1. To go on a junket.
2. To entertain; feast; regale.

Yeah, well, there’s a lot more of them on the operation, fellows in the control room, women too. They all decided to go to California together on a junket. Whooping it up, you know?
— Patricia Highsmith, Tales of Natural and Unnatural Catastrophes

Some lobbyists get together and put up money for a few congress people to go to a resort for a winter weekend. The catch is the lobbyists get to go along and talk to them. They usually call it a seminar or a symposium, but basically it’s a junket.
— John Lutz, Final Seconds

Junket is rooted in the Latin word juncata which meant “rush basket.” It is likely that the basket was associated with the notion of a picnic basket and came to signify a pleasure trip.

MOTORCYCLE REVIEW: 2011/2012 Triumph America & Thunderbird Storm, ON WOMENRIDERS NOW.COM–

Appealing alternatives to status-quo cruisers
By Pamela Johnson, Photos by Riles and Nelson

Editor’s Note: When you think of Triumph, your mind may automatically go to the cute and nimble Bonneville or the sporty Daytona or Speed Triple. But during the last few years, this British company has been building up its stable of cruisers, knowing many Americans love laid-back cruising motorcycles. For 2011/2012, Triumph is offering four cruiser models, starting with the base model, the America, an 865cc midsize cruiser that’s comparable to the Kawasaki Vulcan 900, Star Motorcycles V Star 950, Honda Shadow models (750cc), Suzuki Boulevard C50 (805cc), and Harley-Davidson Sportster SuperLow 883.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER Holiday Travel FINDINGS:
How Unhealthy is Airplane Air? The air quality in commercial aircraft is a real problem for both travelers and airline employees. The National Research Council found evidence suggesting that air circulating in passenger cabins may contribute to a wide variety of health problems.

Among the hazards noted: overexposure to ozone levels, inadequate oxygen pressure and air contaminated with traces of engine oil, hydraulic fluid, de-icing solutions and even pesticides (sprayed on international flights).

To address these concerns, consider:

* Traveling with a portable personal air purifier (check with the flight crew before using any portable electronic device while in flight).
* Avoiding alcohol during flights to reduce your body’s toxic burden (but drinking plenty of bottled water).
* Taking an herbal supplement that supports immune health such as Echinacea before you get on the plane.

If you travel by air frequently, and have the means to afford it, another option is to fly first class – the first-class cabin provides more outside air per person than coach. Don’t miss next Sunday’s Tip, which will provide information on coping with jet lag.

ROCKERS’ MOTORCYCLES ADDED TO CLASSIC CALIFORNIA SALE–
Custom bikes from Guns N’ Roses and Godsmack members featured in Bonhams’ upcoming Los Angeles auction.

3 November 2011 – San Francisco – On the heels of the news of vehicles from Fonzie and Elvis to Madonna and ‘k.d. lang’ coming to auction, comes the announcement of two more notable consignments. Two customized Harley-Davidson motorcycles, both from members of prominent rock bands, will be featured at the Classic California Sale at the Petersen Auto Museum on November 12th.

From Matt Sorum, most recognized as the drummer for Gun N’ Roses but who also played with The Cult and was a founding member of superband Velvet Revolver, is a 2008 Heritage Softail Custom with a hopped-up motor, aftermarket exhaust pipes, slightly lowered suspension and just 2,000 miles on the odometer.

And from the lead singer of Godsmack, Sully Erna, is a 1998 Heritage Softail Custom with aftermarket rims and pipes, ape hangar bars and silver-on-black flame job.

Both motorcycles will join an impressive line-up of vehicles either owned by celebrities or featured in major Hollywood movies, in addition to many other customs and classics from all eras of the American road.

Bonhams’ annual Classic California Sale takes place, fittingly, at the temple of the automobile, the Petersen Automotive Museum, on The Miracle Mile of Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 12th. GUN NUT REPORT–
After weeks of stonewalling by the Department of Justice, a clearer picture of what its top officials knew about BATFE’s Operation Fast and Furious, and when they knew it, is slowly beginning to emerge.

On Tuesday, Lanny Breuer, Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, testified before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism about his knowledge of BATFE’s gunwalking operations, and his support for gun control.

In April 2010, Breuer says, he knew that BATFE agents had allowed hundreds of guns to be illegally purchased and smuggled to Mexican drug cartels in 2006 and 2007 as part of Wide Receiver, a Tucson-based operation similar to Fast and Furious, which was hatched out of Phoenix. Nevertheless, nearly a year later, when BATFE was accused of allowing guns to walk in Fast and Furious, Breuer suggested that he was convinced to not consider the allegations seriously. “I recall that both the leadership of ATF and the leadership of the United States Attorney’s Offices in Arizona . . . were adamant about the fact that [gunwalking] was not, in fact, a condoned practice,” Breuer said. And as noted last week by the New York Times, last February the Justice Department sent a letter to Congress stating “A.T.F. makes every effort to interdict weapons that have been purchased illegally and prevent their transport into Mexico.”

Your Immediate Action Required; National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act Going to House Floor Soon:
We continue to report on the importance of H.R. 822—the “National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011” and to detail the truth about why the legislation is very good for gun owners. The bill will be heading to the U.S. House floor soon, and it is imperative that you contact your U.S. Representative IMMEDIATELY and urge him or her to support this critically important legislation.

The Time Has Come to Fire Eric Holder! The cauldron that is the “Fast and Furious” scandal continues to boil this week, with 35 members of Congress now calling for Attorney General Eric Holder’s immediate resignation. Meanwhile, the White House and the Justice Department remain silent and stubbornly continue to ignore the demands to remove Holder.
Court Rules that Seattle Gun Ban is Illegal The Washington state Court of Appeals affirmed this week that a gun ban in Seattle’s parks is illegal. The decision comes more than a year after a King County judge sided with several area gun owners, the NRA and the Second Amendment Foundation, and the city of Seattle appealed.

MOTORCYCLE HELMET REPEAL APPROVED IN MICHIGAN HOUSE–
The latest attempt by Michigan lawmakers to repeal a state law requiring motorcyclists to wear helmets passed the state House and cleared a key hurdle.

Senate Bill 29, approved by a 69-39 vote, would allow riders 21 or older to go without helmets if they meet certain insurance and experience conditions.
Riders must have been licensed to operate a motorcycle for at least two years or have passed a safety course to go without helmets. The House bill calls for motorcyclists to have at least $20,000 of first party medical benefits coverage in the event they are involved in an accident.

The bill returns to the Senate, which already has passed the bill in a similar form. If the Senate agrees with the House-backed changes, the legislation would be sent to Gov. Rick Snyder.

It’s unclear what the Republican governor will do if the bill reaches his desk.
This summer, Snyder did not appear interested in dealing with the bill on its own but indicated it could be considered as part of broader changes to auto insurance laws.

The Senate version calls for motorcyclists wishing to ride without helmets to have at least $100,000 of insurance coverage for first-party medical benefits.
Motorcycle riders have wanted a repeal of Michigan’s mandatory helmet law for years. Critics of the requirement say it stops some out-of-state riders from visiting Michigan. Others say wearing a helmet should be a matter of personal choice, not a mandate.

Supporters of the legislation stress that wearing a helmet would be optional if the legislation becomes law.

“It’s there to wear if that’s your choice,” said Rep. Peter Pettalia, a Republican from Presque Isle who voted in favor of the bill.

The Legislature has passed bills to repeal the state’s mandatory motorcycle helmet law previously, but the bills were vetoed twice by then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Opponents of allowing motorcyclists to go helmetless say it would increase deaths and injuries and add to insurance costs.

NEW MOTORCYCLE TV SERIES BEING PITCHED–
Thought you’d be interested in seeing this teaser video my friend Carey Bohn put together. He’s a TV producer who use to work me at Ehlert as publisher of the ATV mags. Last year in Sturgis he met this guy Pee Wee who use be a Hells Angel. Now he has a security business in Vegas.

Carey is trying to sell this show — and has some good connections. Since you have an interest in one-percenters, thought you’d enjoy seeing this:

SEASONAL SHIFT–
I’m usually scrambling on the Sunday Post until late in the afternoon, while the shop list of projects looms. It’s supposed to be Sunday, and a day of reflection and relaxation. Then there’s the list of party activities and rides that I don’t seem to make.

We tried a rule: Take Monday off, but that didn’t work. Mondays set the pace for the week. It’s off to the harried races on Monday, then I have Tuesday and Wednesday to finish all the projects, and collect news for Thursday. Then Thursday hits like a sledgehammer.

So, what the hell am I getting at? It’s the same every week, unless I’m on the road to Sturgis, Vegas, or Bonneville, or a sailing trip. We need a run to 13 Palms to see the bros. We’re hoping for a quick weekend jam on new motorcycles into Joshua to count cactus and drink tequila while breaking in new motors. I can’t wait.

Okay, so my notion today is to kick back, watch a game, and make notes for my meeting tomorrow with a movie producer who is interested in a motorcycle film effort. We’ll see. The agent is working on 1%er, Machine Gun Preacher tanked, but more motorcycle TV entertainment is popping onto the flat screen. I’ve often said, in a drunken stupor, that biker flicks would become the westerns of a new era. It hasn’t happened yet. The open west is still way more sexy that dirty alleys and asphalt.

Have a helluva week.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
