Mr Hyde said there needed to be more emphasis on protecting the community.
He said he had been vocal about the justice system because he didn’t think it was focused “as well as it could be on preventing victims (of crime)”.
“When the courts have high-risk people before them, people who have a proven track record in terms of victimising people – and it’s almost certain to those who are willing to consider the facts that they will re-offend when they get out – you should take that into account in bail, parole in sentencing,” Mr Hyde said.
“I would like to see the justice system more focused on protecting the community and I don’t think they do it well enough or at least I thing there is a lot of room for improvement in that field of the future.”
Mr Hyde was more upbeat about the state of the police force he had led for 15 years.
He said he was leaving the force in good shape, with crime statistics and the road toll falling.
Mr Hyde said that in the past 10 to 12 years there had been an overall reduction in crime of about 40 per cent.
“Some categories such as residential break-ins have gone down 60 per cent; they are fantastic results,” he said.
“We have come from 190,000 victim-reported crimes a year to about 110,000 – the reality is 80,000 less victims reported each year … these are real people, real crimes, real benefits.”
Mr Hyde said that in 1974 there had been 382 people killed on the state’s roads, but that number had dropped to 92 last financial year.
But there was still plenty of work to do, especially with regard to outlaw motorcycle clubs.
He said he was not surprised by incident in the northern suburbs Thursday when a Finks MC bikie allegedly rammed a police car head-on at high speed.
“It just reinforces the trouble we have with bikies and the fact that they are prepared to resort to violence and they really do think they are above the law and can do what they like. No society should put up with them.”
Mr Hyde’s view was supported by incoming Commissioner Gary Burns, who said he saw bikies as the “overt’ face of organised crime with a complete disregard for the law.

You Should Feel Safe In California– Weekend enforcement operation to focus on motorcycle safety
The Sacramento Police Department will conduct a motorcycle safety enforcement operation this weekend in an effort to reduce motorcycle-related accidents and fatalities, and to educate the community about how to safely share the road with motorcycle traffic.
traject truh-JEKT, verb:
To transport, transmit, or transpose.
A sign said “loose rocks and soil on the edges” I decided to drive close to the edge and see when using the front end of my car, then swinging out the back wheels, would it cause the rocks to traject in front of his car?
— Robert A. Williams, The Fall Mission
The Roman vocabulary did not tend to traject the “aesthetic” with “manliness,” “glory,” or “wealth.”
— Brian A. Krostenko, Cicero, Catullus, and the Language of Social Performance
Traject stems from the Latin word jacere meaning “to throw” and the prefix tra- which is a variation of the prefix trans- meaning “across” or “beyond.”

PARTS UNLIMITED BACKS SAM WHEELER IN LAND SPEED RECORD ATTEMPT– 400 MPH will be needed to set the new world record on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Vance & Hines supplies Suzuki 500+HP Hayabusas.
Janesville, WI…July 18, 2012. Parts Unlimited will be the major sponsor for Sam Wheeler and his motorcycle streamliner in his quest to set a new motorcycle land speed record. Sam Wheeler of Arcadia, CA who is considered to be the best designer/constructor/driver in the motorcycle Land Speed Record (LSR) game, will attempt to break the current motorcycle land speed record of 376.156 MPH on the Bonneville Salt Flats this fall. With good weather and salt conditions, Sam feels he will be capable of exceeding 400 MPH.
Sam has over 50 years of motorcycle LSR experience. He built his first streamliner with some friends in high school. Sam’s present liner has one of the most aerodynamic shapes in LSR racing, and for this new attempt he plans to almost double his horsepower. Sam is switching from a Kawasaki KZ 1100 engine to a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 engine that will be built by Bryon Hines, of Vance and Hines. The turbo charging system will be built by Terry Kizer of Mr. Turbo. Sam explains his changes in a 7 minute video available at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfbVf4YLRqw .
“Sam has a brilliant plan to break this record. I was impressed that he had designed almost every component on computer aided drawing. It was all very well thought out.” said Fox. “One look at his ideas, and I was hooked. As a mechanical engineer, I find the challenge and Sam’s solutions nothing short of brilliant. We are happy and honored to help Sam Wheeler. This is typical of how we support the sport of motorcycling, and it’s extra nice with a great guy and a very big goal.”
Fox then sought the help of Terry Vance at Vance & Hines to furnish support for the pit crew and turned to Performance Machine to build the new rear wheel. Fred helped convince Goodyear to supply their very special Land Speed Record tires. Other sponsors currently include Dynojet, Saddlemen, Belray, ICON, Z1R, Roland Sands Designs, Alpinestars and UPS (Parts Unlimited and Parts Europe’s primary shipper). EZ Hook was given a prime sponsor logo location on the tail of the streamliner in appreciation for their many years of supporting Sam’s efforts.
“I can’t tell you how happy I am to have Parts Unlimited join our effort. They really support the motorcycle sport and have fun doing it. Fred Fox came to my shop in December and we talked for hours about what it would take to get this record. He is 100% committed to working with us to finish the job.” said Sam Wheeler.
The Sam Wheeler streamliner is considered to be the most technically advanced and meticulously constructedmotorcycle streamliner in the World. The main competitors’ motorcycle streamliners are Denis Manning’s Seven and Mike Akatiff’s Ack Attack. Manning and Akatiff have traded records back and forth since 2006 when both of them topped the existing record during the same week time trial. Wheeler had the fastest one-way time in that event, but crash damage prevented him from doing the mandatory second run. Many knowledgeable observers feel that Sam’s streamliner definitely has the potential to break the existing record. Any new challenger to the record will need the capability of going over 400 miles an hour. Sam’s major competition presently is Mike Ackatiff who is the current world record holder.
Sam hopes to run at Bonneville this fall if the conditions are right and everything is ready to go. A world record is the average of 2 runs – one in each direction on a 12 mile course. The center mile has timing lights. The runs must be done on the same day with a maximum of 2 hours elapsed time between the runs. At 300 MPH approaching the timed mile it takes less than 10 seconds to cover a mile.

5-Ball RACING WHEELER REPORT–THE ADRENALINE CLOCK IS TICKING

Late Saturday night in Morgan Hill, CA. camped at Beach Racing taking care of the final details such as wiring, air lines, oil lines, fuel lines and the latest in aerodynamics. We’re scheduled for start-up the 6th or 7th in Napa, Ca, only a few days/ hours away.
The week after start-up we will spend part of the day in Corona, CA with the pros at Race Tech for a suspension tune and alignment from axel to axel. Roll back to Napa, CA. for a Bonneville tune and more. The first tune up will be a mild tune for break in purposes only, then we re-tune and have fun.
In 26 days your 5-Ball Racing Team will lock and load in the dead of the night, peel out of the foggy harbor city, destination Bonneville in the ongoing quest for speed.
Thursday received a call from an AMA official indicating the rules have been changed for the Special Construction (A) Class. seat/tail section.
7. G. OPEN CLASS ……2011 RULES……
Any aerodynamic aid at the rear of the motorcycle (including the riders seat/tail section), shall not extend past the most rearward edge of the rear tire, should not be higher than 5 inches above the lowest section of the top of the seat cushion or seat base if no cushion is used, nor shall it be wider than the rider as viewed from the rear. The rear wheel (excluding the tire) must remain visible at all times as viewed from the side.
If the seat/tail section does not meet the above standards, the Chief Technical Steward will determine its legality by observing the motorcycle and rider in a race position to determine if the seat/tail section is an aerodynamic aid.
The primary seat area of the motorcycle must be covered at all times.
The rules have changed..no limit as of mid week.
7/26/2012, seat height to top of tail section….UNLIMITED. (These are my words gathered from an official scrutiniser, Thanks, Drew, Your the Man)….27 days and counting.
We are now in the re-think the tail section? With the K I S S Theory in effect now, more so than ever. We’re burnin daylight.
The Crew along with the owner Dan Stern, House of Thunder Harley Davidson in Morgan Hill have been an great source for parts and encouragement. We rummaged through boxes of old treasures in search of fuel injector pieces, oil coolers, nuts and ?. Dan Sterns shop is a must stop if your in the area.
http://www.airtech-streamlining.com
Wednesday we expect the lower part of the fairing from Air Tech, their located in San Marcos, CA. With the lower piece of the fairing we expect a slipperier package, which reminds me of an ex-wife, something to look forward to?
Ray Whitehead of Pegasus was kind enough to design and machine key pieces for the Raycer. The major component Pegasus will machine is the air plenum (adding a heavier backing plate with a square o-ring), adjustable clip-ons, mounting brackets for the oil cooler, locating brackets for the foot pegs, and a dash to mount the Auto Meter Tach and shift lite.
Thanks Ray Whitehead and Pegasus for the help and inspiration. When we met at Brads Beach Racing shop and after Ray walked around the Raycer on the rack, Ray asked ” Are you the pilot”? when I answered yes he picked up a pen and clip board, what do you need? design and bring me templates.
Late Thursday afternoon templates were delivered. We expect stellar parts from Pegasus mid week at the latest. Life is simply amazing these days.
My son Ryan celebrated his 35th Birthday the 27th in Dallas, Texas..
