GOT THE BLUES, THINK CHINESE NEW YEAR SUNDAY POST FOR February 15, 2015

Hey,

My mind is whirling this Sunday. I’m scrambling to finish the post and hit the road. I road my FXR with new Progressive shocks to the club last night for the Valentines gig, but I had no Valentine.

I heard stories about the port of Los Angeles trying to eliminate marinas for more container space. I heard about officials trying to break the unions and eliminate jobs for automated docs. My mind was reeling as I pull away from the seaside and headed back to the Bikernet Baracks.

I’m listening to KJAZZ this morning. They are playing swing tunes from the ‘40s and it brings back images of simpler times. If you think about it, we have all the technology to afford us great times again, if only we will use the right elements for the right intentions, and take the right path to pure nirvana.

Sounds simple enough. Yeah right. Let’s hit the news:

THE AMA RECOGNIZED THE EFFORTS OF ABATE ON INDIANAPOLIS—FOR CONTINUING TO MAINTAIN A WEBSITE PROVIDING MOTORCYCLISTS AN EASY WAY TO REPORT INFORMATION ABOUT ROAD HAZARDS TO THE PROPER AGENCY.

THE SITE: WWW.ROADHAZARD.ORG ALLOWS VISITORS TO FILL OUT A FORM DESCRIBING THE LOCATION OF THE HAZARD AND THE TYPE OF HAZARD.

QUICK OPEN THE BAD JOKE LIBRARY-– The day it all started was MARCH 6, 1836.

On that fateful day, Davy Crockett woke up and rose from his bunk on the main floor of the Alamo and walked up to the observation post along the west wall of the fort. William B. Travis and Jim Bowie were already there, looking out over the top of the wall. He joined them.

These three great men gazed at the hordes of Mexicans moving towards the Alamo. With a puzzled look on his face, Crockett turned to Bowie and said, “Jim, are we, by any chance, having any landscaping done today?”

Great article! I have a ’98 Road King that I love. Rapidly approaching 70K. Not bad as far as I’m concerned with all the deployments over the last 13 years.

I am also very well versed in the aft cylinder base gasket leaking issues.

One of the reasons I had/have interest in the BMW motor with both cylinders getting equal amounts of air for cooling. So it’s a long term test with my 14 GSA.

But my Evo fits like an old glove and I will also enjoy putting my knees to the breeze with it.

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION ALERT--United States House of Representatives Address Motorcycle Checkpoints Action Needed.

Today, February 12th, Congressman James F Sensenbrenner (R-WI) circulated a “dear colleague” letter to inform his fellow members of the House of Representatives that he will be soon introducing legislation to end the federal funding of motorcycle only roadside checkpoints.

Currently the federal government can and has supplied cash to states to conduct mandatory motorcycle only checkpoints. This legislation, which will be known as H.R. 1861, would put an end to that. In the letter Sensenbrenner states, “I will be reintroducing H.R. 1861, the Stop Motorcycle Checkpoint Funding Act, to protect motorcyclists’ rights and promote crash prevention as the most effective use of taxpayer money to save motorcyclists’ lives.”

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), along with ABATE of Wisconsin met with Sensenbrenner earlier this week to discuss this important matter. The MRF obviously strongly opposes this sort of motorcyclist discrimination. “Pulling law abiding motorcyclists off the road does not make anyone safer is a waste of taxpayer money and is law enforcement harassment at its worst,” said Jeff Hennie, Vice President for Government Relations and Public Affairs for the MRF.

The MRF urges you to contact your Representative in Congress and ask them to join in support of this important legislation as an original cosponsor. You can reach the capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and you can find the name of your Representative here: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/. It is important to gather as many cosponsors as possible to ensure passage of H.R. 1861.

The MRF will keep you informed on this matter so you can engage your member of congress on this important matter impacting motorcyclists on a national level.

BOOK OF THE WEEK–POST-ROMANTIC STRESS DISORDER (PRSD) What to Do When the Honeymoon Is Over By John Bradshaw

Visionary John Bradshaw Offers A Step-by-Step Program for Deepening Mature Love and Intimacy,

Deerfield Beach, FL, February 13, 2015 – Most divorces could be prevented if couples knew what to do “when the honeymoon is over,” visionary counselor, theologian, bestselling author and addiction specialist John Bradshaw explains in a new book, POST-ROMANTIC STRESS DISORDER (PRSD): What to Do When the Honeymoon is Over (HCI Books, Publication Date: November 2014, ISBN-13: 9780757318139, $15.95).

Based on Bradshaw’s new research, PRSD is a very real and serious psychological disorder destroying relationships unnecessarily. In the book, however, he offers a step-by-step program for deepening mature love and intimacy, as well as an easily mastered series of exercises for becoming a better partner.

Couples just don’t know how to navigate the emotional swings that almost every marriage creates, he argues. If couples learn and understand the concepts Bradshaw presents in his book, the portrait of the family unit could have a whole new landscape. In POST-ROMANTIC STRESS DISORDER (PRSD), Bradshaw explains the brain circuitry that connects us to love and romance.

It was Bradshaw, in his groundbreaking work HOMECOMING, who helped us understand and heal the wounded and vulnerable “inner child.” His dynamic therapies are practiced all over the world. A much sought-out speaker, Bradshaw has truly touched and transformed the lives of millions. Bradshaw’s other best-sellers have included HEALING THE SHAME THAT BINDS YOU and CREATING LOVE. He has combined his exceptional skills in the role of counselor, author, management consultant, theologian, philosopher, and public speaker, becoming one of the leading figures in the fields of recovery, family systems, relationships, spiritual and emotional growth and management training.

In POST-ROMANTIC STRESS DISORDER, this great teacher opens the gate to a new frontier, tackling issues that threaten and endanger so many modern relationships. As he so brilliantly observed some time ago, “As the health of the marriage goes, so goes the health of the family.”

Paranoia over terrorism and the money it makes is a problem restricting our freedoms. I watched a recent interview with a number of investigators. They summed it up with a simple fact. They can have all the powers, equipment, man-power in the world, but it’s the public who can help the most.

So, if we trained the public, and honored freedom, we could be stronger, more guarded, more confident, and free once more. Seems simple.–Bandit

QUICK WEEKEND GUN NUT REPORT— In a move clearly intended by the Obama Administration to suppress the acquisition, ownership and use of AR-15s and other .223 caliber general purpose rifles, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives unexpectedly announced today that it intends to ban commonplace M855 ball ammunition as “armor piercing ammunition.” The decision continues Obama’s use of his executive authority to impose gun control restrictions and bypass Congress.

It isn’t even the third week of February, and the BATFE has already taken three major executive actions on gun control. First, it was a major change to what activities constitute regulated “manufacturing” of firearms. Next, BATFE reversed a less than year old position on firing a shouldered “pistol.” Now, BATFE has released a “Framework for Determining Whether Certain Projectiles are ‘Primarily Intended for Sporting Purposes’ Within the Meaning of 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(17)(c)”, which would eliminate M855’s exemption to the armor piercing ammunition prohibition and make future exemptions nearly impossible.

By way of background, federal law imposed in 1986 prohibits the manufacture, importation, and sale by licensed manufacturers or importers, but not possession, of “a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely . . . from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium.”

Because there are handguns capable of firing M855, it “may be used in a handgun.” It does not, however, have a core made of the metals listed in the law; rather, it has a traditional lead core with a steel tip, and therefore should never have been considered “armor piercing.” Nonetheless, BATFE previously declared M855 to be “armor piercing ammunition,” but granted it an exemption as a projectile “primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes.”

Now, however, BATFE says that it will henceforth grant the “sporting purposes” exception to only two categories of projectiles:

Category I: .22 Caliber Projectiles

A .22 caliber projectile that otherwise would be classified as armor piercing ammunition under 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(17)(B) will be considered to be “primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes” under section 921(a)(17)(C) if the projectile weighs 40 grains or less AND is loaded into a rimfire cartridge.

Category II: All Other Caliber Projectiles

Except as provided in Category I (.22 caliber rimfire), projectiles that otherwise would be classified as armor piercing ammunition will be presumed to be “primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes” under section 921(a)(17)(C) if the projectile is loaded into a cartridge for which the only handgun that is readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade is a single shot handgun. ATF nevertheless retains the discretion to deny any application for a “sporting purposes” exemption if substantial evidence exists that the ammunition is not primarily intended for such purposes.

BATFE is accepting comments until March 16, 2015 on this indefensible attempt to disrupt ammunition for the most popular rifle in America. Check back early next week for a more in-depth analysis of this “framework” and details on how you can submit comments.

How to comment – from the BATFE

ATF will carefully consider all comments, as appropriate, received on or before March 16, 2015, and will give comments received after that date the same consideration if it is practical to do so, but assurance of consideration cannot be given except as to comments received on or before March 16, 2015. ATF will not acknowledge receipt of comments.

REPORT FROM THE BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER
Regular exercise like having sex and dancing are ‘miracle cures staring us in the face’, leading doctors have said.

Some of the country’s top medical professionals at the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges examined existing evidence into the benefits of exercise as part of a new review for the NHS.

And doctors concluded that 30 minutes of exercise – including sex, walking and dancing – performed five times per week would dramatically lower our risk of contracting cancer, dementia, heart disease and diabetes.

The risk of getting heart disease would be slashed by up to 40 percent, stroke and dementia by 30 percent and breast cancer by 25 percent, the report found. Bowel cancer rates would be cut by nearly half.

The report said that getting Britons to exercise for just 2.5 hours total per week could save the NHS billions each year.

2015 RoadGlide Windscreen Shootout

http://www.bikernetbaggers.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=12928

A very detailed comparison of windshields from the point of view of rider comfort particularly. What was not mentioned, was that the Klock Werks FLARE was primarily designed to created downforce on the front wheel to reduce instability at speed.

While this is less important on 2009 and upward models it is still a factor to consider. Although the later model Harley baggers have improved handling, bigger, and faster motors mean that many riders travel at speeds where every bit of extra stability is welcome. Not a criticism, just making a point.

THE COURTS STAND UP FOR FREEDOM— On Wednesday, Judge Reed O’Conner of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas issued an opinion and order in Mance v. Holder, holding provisions of federal law that generally prohibit the interstate sale of handguns to be unconstitutional.

Subject to very limited exceptions, the challenged federal law prohibited a federally licensed firearms dealer from transferring a handgun, but not a rifle or shotgun, to any non-licensed individual who resided in a state other than the state where the dealer’s business was located.

LIFE IS NON-STOP—Just this week I’m working on a fine Cycle Visions Bike Feature with Randy Aron, and a Progressive Suspension tech with my Mudflap Girl FXR. It’s an interesting test.

I’m scrambling on the Bonne Belle mods. Including new shifter, which I will cover shortly.

Look what just flew into the shop. We have been working on the new Wheeler Work Station for about seven months. We built the first one (under the new one), and then said, “There must be a better, more shippable, easier to manufacture route, and we found it.” Now for the details.

I reached out to Valerie Thompson. She broke plenty of world records last year and I’m proud of her. She is also sponsored by C-Tech battery chargers. I ordered a new one, since they are very handy and can be used with cars, motorcycles, boats, you name it.

Don’t ask me, but a movie house contacted Bikernet recently to promote a couple of movies and I now have some DVDs to give away. Hang on for the simple contest for a care package from Bikernet.

That’s just scratching the surface. Hang on for another hot-action week on Bikernet and in the Cantina. I need to write the new Girl of Bikernet.
