STARTLING NEW SUNDAY POST for April 26th, 2015

Hey,

There are all the adages in the world about today and making the best of it, because it’s all we have at this moment. Everyday I learn something about life and even the universe.

My thought processes have been challenged over the last couple of years, and recently I’ve been challenged about religion. For some odd reason I’ve been pulled in a spiritual direction. I was given some very vague religious guidance as a kid. “We don’t care what church you go to, just get up and go to church.” For a couple of years I studied the Lutheran religion, embraced it and got baptized.

Then I met the two-wheeled religion and became an outlaw. For most of my adult life I’ve lived the life of an outlaw with only the notion of the Code of the West at my back.

But throughout life, we should all try to keep our mind wide-open too much broader pictures. Okay, I won’t roll into this topic any deeper, but to say that nothing is life is insurmountable. Each roadblock is a challenge and each challenge can be faced with a positive attitude and joy. Think about it. The poor bastard on the corner collecting spare change is happy as a clam.

The bastard who just won the lottery is pissed off all the time. I’m going to drop a note on change from the Dalai Lama in the Post. Let’s hit it:

GLOBAL FEAR TACTICS–
In its “Earth statement”, the group[Earth League] said that three-quarters of known fossil fuel reserves must be left in the ground if warming was not to breach a rise of 2C, the “safety limit.” Spelling out what a global deal at the UN climate summit in Paris should include, the group demanded governments adopt a goal of reducing economies’ carbon emissions to zero by mid-century, put a price on carbon and that the richest take the lead with the most aggressive cuts.

Three-quarters of known fossil fuel reserves must be kept in the ground if humanity is to avoid the worst effects of climate change, a group of leading scientists and economists have said in a statement timed to coincide with Earth Day.

The Earth League, which includes Nicholas Stern, the author of several influential reports on the economics of climate change; Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, a climate scientist and adviser to Angela Merkel; and the US economist Jeffrey Sachs, urged world leaders to follow up on their commitments to avoid dangerous global warming.

Spelling out what a global deal at the UN climate summit in Paris later this year should include, the group demanded governments adopt a goal of reducing economies’ carbon emissions to zero by mid-century, put a price on carbon and that the richest take the lead with the most aggressive cuts.

In its “Earth statement”, the group said that three-quarters of known fossil fuel reserves must be left in the ground if warming was not to breach a rise of 2C, the “safety limit” agreed to by governments.

Johan Rockström, the statement’s lead author, said: “From a scientific perspective, 2015 is a decisive moment. The window to navigate ourselves free from a ‘beyond 2C future’ is barely open. It’s the last chance to navigate ourselves towards a desired future.

“It’s so frustrating, because it’s the choice of moving down a business-as-usual route with devastating outcomes for humanity and, at the same time, we have this almost unprecedented opportunity, we can transform the world economy to a fossil fuel-free one and moreover do it in a way that is security and health-wise more attractive.”

Brian Hoskins, one of the Earth statement signatories and the director of the Grantham institute for climate change at Imperial College London, said that given the importance of the Paris summit, the attention given to climate change in the UK general election campaign was “pathetic” and “extremely disappointing”.

RIVERA/PRIMO AND SU CARBS–
Rivera Primo has championed the British SU carburetter in modified form for Harley motorcycles for over 40 years, in fact that’s how the original Rivera Engineering got started in the motorcycle industry! The SU provides smooth, even power and torque throughout the entire power band, with excellent cold-start characteristics, and drivability.

What the heck does it fit?

From Panheads & Shovelheads, Iron XL’s & Evo XL’s all the way to Evo big Twins and Twin Cam engines, SU fits them all!

So, its been a while since we introduced new stuff for our SU carby and we think it’s high time that we came out with a few cool bits (as they say in Merry ol’ England)! We’ve had a ton of people ask us for a retro velocity stack so we figured and designed and came up with this beautiful puppy that we call the ‘Retro Air Scoop’.

Our innovative air scoop allows directional flow from wither a verticle position or a forward facing horizontal position.

The kits are available in an as cast finish (1005-0058) (Retail $95.99)or polished finish (1005-0059) (Retail $ 123.71) and include the bolts, gasket and instructions. You might also note in the pictures below, our new solid brass retro dome nut & gasket (1042-0589) (Retail $30.00) and idle adjustment screw (1042-0588) (Retail $40.19).

LATEST ACTION FROM BIKERPICS– The Leesburg Bikefest in Leesburg, Florida is one of the states best hidden rallies. I say hidden because at one point, it was a small festival. But over the last several years, the crowds have been exceeding 300,000 and the vendors say the visitors aren’t afraid to open their wallets, which helps to fuel events such as this.

Three days, beautiful weather, 75 bands… WOW, what an event. This gallery is full of the first images from this massive event. It’s full of everyday bikers, no super models, just pure fun. Over the next few days, additional galleries will be posted, so enjoy!

DIRECT FROM THE DALIA LAMA ON MAKING CHANGES— Bringing about positive changes within oneself is most auspicious. Learning is only the first step. There are other factors as well: conviction, determination, action, and effort.

So, the next step is developing conviction. Learning and education are important because they help one develop conviction of the need to change and help increase one’s commitment.

This conviction to change develops into the determination. Next, one transforms determination into action. The strong determination to change enables one to make a sustained effort to implement the actual changes. The final factor is critical.

MARIJUANA MARKETING: Can the Blossoming Cannabis Industry Overcome ‘Stoner’ Stereotypes?

Marijuana smokers. Pot heads. Stoners. They’re a bunch of dirty hippies, right?

And boy are they lazy! These “pot smokers” live in their moms’ basements. No job. No routine. Ok, maybe they have a routine, but that routine consists of getting stoned, giggling, eating Funyuns, and doing it all over again.

That, my friends, is the “stoner” stigma; the stereotype that people who use marijuana are dirty, lazy, stupid, or otherwise unsavory. And this stereotype casts a shadow of illegitimacy across not just businesses operating in the emerging recreational marijuana space, but also businesses operating in the medical marijuana space.

Whether it’s for health or pleasure, using marijuana tends to get a bad rap. And that’s a major hurdle that marketers in the cannabis industry need to overcome in order to be successful.

So, what are marijuana marketers doing to overturn old stereotypes? And, more generally, what are their tactics and strategies for promoting marijuana and marijuana-related products in a not-so-easy-to-navigate legal environment?

Why Are We Writing About This?

Marijuana has been a taboo subject for decades, and we are now just starting to see a shift in the conversation. Several states in the United States have legalized marijuana for medicinal use, and a handful have done so for recreational use as well.

After decades of radio silence, “Marijuana marketing” is suddenly a thing again.

Businesses in the cannabis industry are now ramping up their marketing efforts. They’re hiring agencies. They’re developing and expanding their web presences. They’re attending conferences and expos.

In short, they’re doing everything they legally can, while simultaneously navigating a tricky set of rules and regulations.

From a marketer’s perspective, it’s a pretty intriguing — and difficult — landscape to be a part of. And keep in mind that it’s not just marijuana growers, distributors, and dispensaries that make up this landscape. It’s also fertilizer companies, and lighting system companies, and hydroponic supplies companies, and jar & container companies, and analytical testing laboratories … there are even staffing groups that specialize in placing workers in the cannabis industry.

Cannabis is already big business, and has the potential to get even bigger.

In a 2014 report, the marijuana research and financial analysis firm, GreenWave Advisors, predicts that if the federal government (and all 50 U.S. states) legalize recreational marijuana, the cannabis industry could pull in $35 billion annually by the year 2020. That’s including sales of both medical and recreational marijuana.

Now, to be clear, neither HubSpot nor myself are taking a stance on whether or not marijuana should be legalized. Instead, this post is simply an exploration into how public opinion around marijuana has changed over the years and how it continues to change. And of course, we’ll be highlighting the role marketing has played — and continues to play — in all of it.

For the purposes of this post, I’ll be focusing on marijuana marketing as it pertains to the United States, but it’s worth noting that other countries (like the Netherlands) are dealing with some of the same issues. And as legalization campaigns continue to crop up around the world, marijuana marketing will undoubtedly become more and more of an international issue.

NEVER A DULL MOMENT— I need to see the gang at BDL this coming week, and Junior at Lifestyle Cycle.

Junior just moved his shop next door for 1,400 more square feet and a cooler location. I need to check it out and discuss how Bikernet can help.

I need to get to work on some installs for BDL. There are several ways to go. We tore up our belt system in Bonneville on the Bonne Belle and need some replacement parts.

We are determined to clean up some of the Cantina departments. And I’m working on the Bike Builds area. It needs some help. I’m also working on a Cantina episode.

Plus, we should have a paint report on the new 5-Ball Racing 2014 Chief being built in Charleston, SC. I’ll be headed out to ride in to the Smoke Out.

And my new Progressive Shocks should arrive tomorrow for the Mudflap Girl FXR.

And I’m hoping to have some very strong workouts this week. Hang on for all the action.

Ride Free Forever,
