HOLIDAY SPIRIT SUNDAY POST for December 4, 2016

Hey,

This is a good one and we’re scrambling from one project to the next in an effort to find Nirvana in the weeds.

In pondering 2017 we need to create peace and tranquility in our lives daily, hence Nirvana. As life rolls along our definition of Nirvana changes. At one time it’s living in a constant party, and then maybe getting married and raising kids. Then at some point it becomes a true sense of security and finally, a summation of all the past into a relaxing form of comfortable existence.

There must be a way, the Way. I will find it, but I only have three weeks… Let’s hit the news.

NEWS FROM THE KHAN OF BIKERNET TRIKES–
Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away was a lonely planet called Earth. It was full of creatures that either wanted to rip each others flesh or hump it based on their mood and opportunity. Mankind was doomed due to its inherent nature of profiting from anothers’ loss.

Aliens knew of this weakness and planned to subjugate Earthlings with an offer they could not refuse. Earthlings were to be governed by the aliens or to be enslaved. Since it was no different than what existed on Earth, the Earthlings laughed and mocked the short-sightedness of the aliens.

Far in the trenches and caves and deserts, the word spread about the impending death of humanity. Bikers rose from their beer naps and rode to the hills to preach freedom and identity. NASA sent Voyager 69 with the obscene rants and music and photographs of bikers everywhere on Earth. NASA was sick of alien probes into human anatomy.

Their probe penetrated deep into Andromeda galaxy and expressed a new hope of war and hate with humanity. As a result, the weary bikers had to negotiate building a wall around the Milky Way at the expense of alien intruders. But the aliens were worthless.

All they had as commodity and currency was self-respect, dignity and a God of War that spit acid from his dick. A NASA nerd spoke out of turn and mentioned the trivia that the Milky Way is called so because most of the astrologers are females with big titties. After numerous debates, discussions and conflicts, the aliens suggested smoking the peace pipe hailed as the common ground among humanity.

Thus began the only useful export of mankind to the universe – marijuana for the extraterrestrials. They did not want our women, nor our wine or gold or armor or celebrity viral status. They wanted to forget that they ever came across human race. So they smoked and puffed and sent down a shower of diamonds and blonde jokes. Humans lived happily ever after. The universe may soon be dead.

Best Wishes,
Ujjwal Dey

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY– Students in an advanced Biology class were taking their mid-term exam. The last question was, ‘Name seven advantages of Mother’s Milk.’ The question was worth 70 points or none at all. One student was hard put to think of seven advantages. He wrote:
1) It is perfect formula for the child.

2) It provides immunity against several diseases.
3) It is always the right temperature.
4) It is inexpensive.
5) It bonds the child to mother and vice versa.
6) It is always available as needed.
And then the student was stuck. Finally, in desperation, just before the bell rang indicating the end of the test he wrote:
7) It comes in two attractive containers and it’s high enough off the ground where the cat can’t get it. He got an A.

THE CLIMATE HUSTLE–
Ford, industry blast Obama on EPA’s greenhouse regs.

The battle between the industry and the Obama administration sets up the the potential that the incoming Trump administration could scale back the regulations automakers initially agreed to in 2012

Ford on Wednesday accused the Obama administration of playing “eleventh-hour politics” after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it would recommend keeping strict greenhouse emission standards in place through 2025, despite a major industry lobbying effort aimed at relaxing those standards..

Ford signaled that it hopes that President-elect Donald Trump will roll back the regulations.

Ford’s uncharacteristically harsh public statement was at the forefront of a chorus of criticism hurled at the EPA and the Obama administration after the government tossed aside concerns repeatedly expressed by the industry since July about emission regulations that will take effect between 2020 and 2025.

The battle between the industry and the Obama administration also sets up the the potential that the incoming Trump administration could take control of the review process and scale back the regulations automakers initially agreed to in 2012.

“It is deeply disappointing that eleventh-hour politics in a lame-duck Administration has short-circuited a data-driven process for developing regulation,” Ziad Ojakli, Ford’s group vice-president of government and relations, said. “Ford and the industry stand ready to work with the next Administration and Congress to find a way forward.”

The Auto Alliance, the industry’s leading lobbying group, sent a letter to Trump’s transition team that specifically asked the incoming team take part in the mid-term evaluation of automotive regulations “to ensure that these are consistent with the policy objectives of the new administration.”

THE PLAN BIKERNET NEWS for December 1, 2016

I often wear a bandana being the pale face that I am. This kind of law is a lot like carrying anything that can cut wire (ie barbed wire) in your saddlebags or in your car or truck.

Can’t wear rings, can’t cover your face, can’t mount the license plate this way or that, bars too high, glasses too dark, put on your gloves, quiet down, fly right, don’t wear colors round here, don’t hang out with your friends.

They stone you when you’re going…but I would not feel so all alone, everybody must get stoned.

ACTION FROM THE CLIMATE HUSTLE FRONT–
I did communicate with Hardtail, president of the MRF, and he wanted to talk by phone last week but we didn’t hook up. He’s in Europe most of December on business (he’s an engineer for Ocean Spray Cranberries).

He stated that the MRF is all over the EPA issue and they have released many press releases on the subject. My opinion is they have voiced concerns, and report occasionally on the ethanol standards, production increases and dispute over production waivers pursuant to the Clean Air Act and congress’ promulgations, but I haven’t seen any strategy or direction on how to combat any of this to date other than their plea to write to your congressman to express concerns over blended fuels and increase in E-15 reserves.

The quandary, as I see it, is we as a people are caught between the battle of the experts once again. The standards, CO2 emissions concerns, greenhouse gases, 2017 volume requirements for Ethanol, climate warming and more are so technical that a layperson cannot understand it all.

When you have scientists and other so-called experts disagreeing on climate change, what is causing it if it’s actually happening, what is the greater danger contributing to CO2 emissions and so on, what chance do we have of knowing what is real and what is fantasy?

It’s like belief in God. Some have an unyielding devotion to believe in the existence of God, without tangible proof that he exists. Other’s call it an illusion or belief in a superstition. Those sides can argue to eternity, with neither having real proof to verify the argument.

With regards to our situation, we are stuck in the middle with each side arguing more on belief than “real evidence.” I don’t want to believe the planet is warming like some claim, and I don’t want to believe that man is the major contributor to this claim. But not being an expert, I can only cling to belief and faith that it isn’t so.

The one thing I do know as fact, is the EPA working in concert with European nations on Global Harmonization, is regulating business into submission through increased standards (some of which cannot be reached because technology doesn’t exist yet to meet those standards), punishing fines that cripple small manufacturers, Swat-team raids that violate constitutional protections and destroy business, families and bank accounts, and total refusal to co-ordinate planning on initiatives to meet these problems with local, non-governmental committees or agencies, as was mandated in the original clean air acts decades ago.

Without someone in congress to champion the cause of reining in the EPA, we are spinning in circles without an end in sight. Looking at the open comments document the EPA posted concerning the 2017 Ethanol volume requirements, it was clear that most comments were in favor of increasing the volumes and opposed waivers that allowed for lower volumes or retaining current levels.

Most of the comments came from interested parties, as expected, like corn growers and ethanol manufacturers. I could only find three submissions from our friends in the motorcycle community: ABATE of Michigan, ABATE of Illinois and ABATE of Pennsylvania.

There were a few other organizations that opposed the increased Ethanol production, most notably some antique car organizations, but most comments were in favor of increased production levels of E15.

The arguments for the most part were of a technical nature and included comments by manufacturers and gas station/service plaza owners and organizations, that were beyond my understanding, since they alluded to business practices and manufacturing technology. These are stakeholders representing huge companies. My other concern is how big of an impact is the motorcycle after-market industry and motorcycle riders in general going to have on this global stage?

My Response to Tony’s Report:

I agree regarding the highly technical aspects of this argument and I get a kick out of your equating it to the God debate. Regarding the God debate, don’t we have something in the constitution about this? You can debate and believe all you want for or against, but don’t pass laws. The question remains. Can we give up or give in? And what we hope to fight for goes way beyond the performance motorcycle industry to cars and trucks, anything performance.

I would rather equate the global science discussion and over regulation to the McCarthy Era. Can we allow the government to control everything with an exhaust pipe and put half of these industries out of business, only to discover tomorrow or a year from now that the transportation sector has a very small climate change footprint.

Plus there is science and scientist who don’t agree with the regulators’ contentions. In fact, Australia, through scientific conclusions threw out recent regulations. Watch the documentary “Climate Hustle.” Plus, over the 40 some years we’ve been in this game, every time the government threw another law at the Biker’s Rights community, our band of grubby bikers stepped up, found the data, researched the facts and came back fighting with Freedom on our side.

THE INVESTIGATOR RESPONDS TO THE BANDIT IN THE CANTINA–

I don’t have a particular link to give regarding the Ethanol issue, since there is so much out there from many sources I’ve looked at. The particular comments I made regarded the recent alerts put out on the Ethanol volume requirements by both the AMA and MRF. As for giving up or giving in, I think you know me better than to think I would ever throw the towel in when matters of rights or personal liberties are concerned.

You are right when you say the issue is much deeper than our niche in the scheme of things. As usual, two things loom large; money and control. Money comes from the huge business of alternative fuels and renewable energy.

The greenhouse scare has helped to create new industries endeavoring to capitalize on alternative fuels. Ethanol seems to be king at the moment, with manufacturing plants popping up across the mid-west an elsewhere.

Corn crops are being devoted to Ethanol to meet the demands of volume dictated under the Renewable Fuel Standard. The greenhouse scare/conspiracy fuels the acquiescence is increased regulation, not only on car, diesel and motorcycle emissions, but also coal powered energy plants.

Since its creation in 1970, under Richard Nixon, the EPA has declared war on industry in America. Bolstered by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the war on coal powered energy plants and coal mining in general has cost thousands of jobs. By 2030, it’s predicted 34,000 jobs lost. The coal industry itself has already lost over 47,500 jobs. 37 percent of coal mining jobs in Kentucky have vanished since 2008, yet America relies on fossil fuel energy for 2/3rds of its electricity.

We tend to think of the assault on emissions as singular attack. But farming, mining, ranching and logging are all under attack from the EPA. This is costing jobs and eliminating small business altogether.

In California, independent truck drivers are going out of business because of the EPA and CARB. Standards and regulation on diesel particulate emission make older trucks illegal. Newer trucks or some able to convert have installed Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF), which are suspected in numerous semi-truck fires of questionable origin. These fires are not a consequence of crashes but rather spontaneous affairs. Interestingly, many of the original reports point to the filters but final incident reports exclude the cause and only refer to undetermined heat source. Was the EPA behind the exclusion of first opinion conclusions of origin of the fires?

Exhaust emission regulation has been at the heart of most of our problems dealing with after-market accessories. Before establishing any regulations or restrictions, federal agencies were required to “coordinate” with local government agencies, according to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969. Any federal agency action had to be submitted to environmental study and for coordination with local governments affected by such action.

To be considered was the impact on society, culture and the economy. Recent hearings attended by independent truck drivers in Redding, California, indicated that local government was not contacted by or coordinated with the EPA or CARB on any of the regulations suppressing that industry. The fact that EPA and CARB continue to create more regulations and enforce existing ones, seemingly without regard to local government concerns, is most disturbing.

Even more disturbing is the move toward Harmonization of Motorized Vehicles based on European standards. That should scare the hell out of our industry. It’s no secret that the EU, headed by Germany, has set a target of 2030 to eliminate all fossil fuel vehicles.

The EU envisions an all-electric or at least alternative fuel motor vehicle culture. The consequences of global harmonization reawaken all the fears of the “One World Government” that so many of us oppose. It goes so far beyond vehicles when you consider land acquisition, deforestation and the so-called reliance of foreign oil.

I suspect the reliance on foreign oil should be blamed partly on the EPA and its regulations. Regulations, not environmentalists, have slowed down or halted oil drilling operations in the U.S. Our refineries are operating at capacity, and building new, more technologically advanced refineries, are stifled by EPA regulation.

Just like coal burning energy plants, the regulations promulgated by the EPA make meeting those standards impossible because the technology to meet emission demands doesn’t exist yet.

So, instead of investing in our own domestic oil program, congress invested billions of dollars (taxpayers money) to explore alternative energy sources like wind turbines, solar panels and Ethanol.

We know how the first two experiments turned out, and the jury is still out on Ethanol as a viable alternative to fossil fuels. As it stands, despite pouring billions of dollars into the search for alternative fuels, no technology or alternative fuels come close to replacing fossil fuel systems in place.

Sweden sought a 100 percent carbon-free emission for its power supply, relying on a combination of hydroelectric and nuclear power, and exchanging power with neighboring Scandinavian countries. It investigated substituting its nuclear power with wind power in order to reduce the demand for hydroelectricity. It found that it would have to supplement the system with power from fossil fuel (gas) to meet the demand, resulting in doubling the CO2 emissions.

Can the EPA also have a role in Second Amendment Rights? Consider the closing of the last lead smelting plant in America and the stockpiling of ammunition by federal agencies like Homeland Security. Why did the EPA also stockpile millions of rounds of ammunition after regulating lead smelting in the U.S. out of business.

I could go on, but I think finding allies in congress is essential. The Tenth Amendment was based on federalism, in which the power of government was possessed by independent sovereign states, as opposed to a centralized government with power reserved for a central authority. To preserve the autonomy or sovereignty of the states, we have to have a Supreme Court made up of justices to understand and support the original intention of the Tenth Amendment to limit the powers of the federal government. In that respect, the Supreme Court is a more important player than even congress in our goal to reduce the regulatory powers of the EPA.

KEEP THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN DURING THE HOLIDAYS–
A woman and her 12-year-old son were riding in a taxi in Detroit. It was raining and all the prostitutes were standing under awnings. “Mom,” said the boy, “what are all those women doing?”

“They’re waiting for their husbands to get off work,” she replied.

The taxi driver turns around and says, “Geez lady, why don’t you tell him the truth? They’re hookers, boy! They have sex with men for money.”

The little boy’s eyes get wide and he says, “Is that true Mom?”

His mother, glaring hard at the driver, answers “Yes.”

After a few minutes the kid asks, “Mom, if those women have babies, what happens to them?”

She said, “Most of them become taxi drivers.”

CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN POST —
from Ujjwal Dey:

We love Cows in India. We just don’t eat them. LOL. Being an ancient 5000+ years agricultural economy, cows, horses, dogs, elephants are all precious as gold to us Hindus and Indians. We even like snakes because they kill the rats and pests that destroy crops. So, while snake is evil in Abrahamic religion, here in India we would never hurt a snake if we can just avoid being bitten.

Another stark difference is the bride wears white in the West. Here in India a widow wears white to showcase her divine purity. Yellow flowers are a favorite at temples and has been known to color therapists as a color that improves mood, brings joy and enables contentment. So while yellow is a coward to James Dean, in India we offer it to the Gods in decoration for a festive mood.

All the Gods and Goddesses in our mythology ride one animal or bird or such creature. It is nature and mankind united to seek benevolence of the universe / cosmic spirits. I sometimes think Columbus did the right thing by calling the native Americans as Indians. Columbus was searching for a new route to India and landed in America. But those native Americans had a much similar lifestyle and kingdoms and spiritual outlook.

India and America are parallel in so many million ways: Former British colonies and forever having influx of foreigners. Both nations face the same challenges of finding unity in extensively diverse races, religions, languages, culture, etc. And the problem of illegal immigration and politicians trying to create a vote bank by helping the illegals get citizenship, etc.

Just like USA, we in India too have a very diverse flora and fauna. Different animals and birds and reptiles and insects. Just as USA, in India too there are hills, rivers, islands, coastal docks, deserts, forests, national parks, snow capped mountains, etc. If India and America were any more similar, I would just hop on a ship and apply for visa there.

FEDS SEE PHONE DRIVE MODES–

In late November, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) asked smartphone manufacturers and automakers to work together to develop a “driver mode” for mobile devices for use in the car. The 96-page document of voluntary guidelines calls for cars to be more easily paired with mobile devices so that drivers can access them through an in-vehicle interface. The “airplane mode for the car” would lock out the ability to type text messages and to view social media, apps and website displays for everything non-map related.

NHTSA officials say that creating a driver mode for mobile devices would be voluntary. That is how most other safety devices, now mandatory, first started. The big difference though between this proposal and devices such as airbags and seatbelts is that mobile phones are external to the car design.

Many questions arise about driver mode.

· Would motorists be allowed to opt out of driver mode when purchasing a new car since this is a voluntary program?

· Would motorists be pressured by their own insurance company to use driver mode every time the insured vehicle is driven? How would the insurance company monitor the use of driver mode?

· Would motorists be required to engage driver mode with their own personal phones when driving company fleet vehicles, carshare vehicles and rental cars?

· Would motorists be required to use driver mode every time they drive in order to register his or her vehicle every year? How would this be monitored?

· Would driver mode be extended to passengers?

· Shouldn’t car infotainment centers be subject to the same rules as phones and other mobile devices while driving?

Joe, an NMA member from Montana, has some experience with a similar device on a company fleet vehicle. He shared these thoughts after news broke on the proposed guidelines:

A few years ago my company decided everyone needed to stop checking e-mail, texting, etc. from their phone while driving so they forced us to download an app called Cellcontrol, and also install the required device on the vehicle’s windshield. The device talked to the phone via Bluetooth.

As soon as the vehicle exceeded about 3 MPH, the phone would automatically lock, completely kicking you out of whatever app you were using, even something useful like weather. Stop moving and the phone would automatically unlock. Phone calls could still be played over the vehicle’s Bluetooth connection while you were moving, but because the phone linked to the Cellcontrol device via Bluetooth, the audio had a very distinct chopping sound to it, kind of like “picket fencing” on an FM station.

Overall the experience was very frustrating and probably not successful in reducing crashes or whatever the company thought it would reduce (we could still use our laptops to check e-mail/web while driving). Last year we were given instructions on how to delete the app and told it was ok to remove the device from the windshield and throw it out. Phone Freedom Day finally arrived!

SEAT OF THE WEEK FROM CORBIN–

Corbin has replaced the two piece stock unit with a single piece model to provide more structural support and the ability to accept a removable passenger backrest.

We’ve built two models, one to emulate the seat height of the stock seat in the upper position and one to provide an easier ground reach like the stock seat in the low position (Available Soon!) By designing each seat specifically, we were able to keep excellent ergonomics and a properly neutralized seating platform.

Passenger seating area is designed with a neutralized platform to curb sliding forward in the saddle. Dished shaping provides an excellent contact patch while maintaining a clean look. This gives your passenger excellent comfort.

For additional comfort and feeling of security, the Corbin saddle works with an optional removable passenger backrest. Simple to install with just a single bolt under the saddle and fully adjustable to provide a tailored fit.

Corbin’s saddle is designed to work with the optional Honda saddlebags. Mounts to the motorcycle similar to stock and secures with the Honda key lock system. All brackets are included and pre-mounted on the seat so it’s ready for immediate installation.

NEXT WEEK DRAWS US CLOSER TO THE HOLIDAYS—
Like we are flying at Christmas. I’m headed to Bennett’s Performance tomorrow to work with the lovely Jasmine King on a Yelvington tech for Cycle Source Magazine. I should be working on my mother’s memorial party on the floating Chowder Barge in Wilmington or wrapping presents or something…

I’ll work on my 2017 plan of inaction more next week. One or two of the issues, maybe three include projects, security, and dynamics. You watch inactive folks sort of slip away. You watch folks who are abusive to themselves waste away. You witness active positive folks keep at it to the end.

The other side of the coin is planning for the future while knowing where to draw the line. I suppose I’m trying to draw the line and relieve the workload. Another item haunts me. As you look around you see folks who make the same mistakes over and over. Or you watch the rich guy count his pennies until the day he dies. It’s like they get stuck in a groove and can’t stop. They do the same shit over and over.

I’m determined not to make the same mistake, or did I? Who the fuck knows.
