Bikernet Banners For Your Use

http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=426

I think the banner idea is great. I’m just wondering if it’ll work for my business, which is a small b&b in real American Indian Tipis on a biker crossroad in Florida. I hope it will.

This puppy has had its issues, and I believe I need a connection for batteries. We had that bike dialed in and a city block later, Kyle crashed it. It’s back together and ready to rock with a new battery. I might consider selling it… –Bandit

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–The pharmacist asked me my birth date again today. I’m pretty sure she’s going to get me something.

I think it’s pretty cool how Chinese people made a language entirely out of tattoos.

The reason Mayberry was so peaceful and quiet was because nobody was married. Andy, Aunt Bea, Barney, Floyd, Howard, Goober, Gomer, Sam, Earnest T Bass, Helen, Thelma Lou, Clara and, of course, Opie, were all single. The only married person was Otis, and he stayed drunk all the time!

Question: What’s an Australian kiss? Answer: The same thing as a French kiss, only down under.

BONNEVILLE BOBBER 1st Ride Review – Rider Magazine Feature

Bobbers are quite possibly the original performance custom motorcycles. Riders have been stripping extraneous parts and “bobbing” fenders since knickerbockers and straw hats were in fashion. The idea is simple: take an ordinary motorcycle, remove anything not related to going fast, including rear shocks, side covers, and passenger seats and pegs, chop off the fenders to their most minimal size (or better yet, toss them in the bin with the other bits you’ve removed) and soup up the engine.

Read our 2016 Motorcycle of the Year award story about the 2016 Triumph Bonneville T120

Part of the whole point, of course, was to build your own. There was no such thing as a “factory” bobber—and how cool could one really be? Admittedly, my expectations upon arriving in Madrid, Spain, for the global launch of the 2017 Bonneville Bobber were modest.

Oh, the bike looks awesome, and it’s one of the most anticipated new models to be announced this year. Triumph itself has made it clear that it built the Bobber to appeal to customers looking for a certain aesthetic—but so often in the past, building for style has also meant a compromise in performance.

I think he was missing the point, but I’m sure the article covered more. I think these bikes are too cool, classic, inspiring, traditional, and maybe just what the market needs.–Bandit

ACCORDING TO THE LA TIMES FLAT TRACK RACING IS COMING BACK
Is flat track racing getting back on track?

Jared Mees squinted dubiously at the dirt motorcycle track.

“That ain’t no mile,” the Grand National champion and X Games gold medalist said.

Indeed, the short indoor course was a temporary track laid out by American Supercamp, a training academy that had come to Los Angeles with its techniques and teachers — including 2016 flat track champion Bryan Smith and seven-time national champion Chris Carr — as part of a broad effort to help get flat track racing back into public view.

Flat, or dirt, track racing was once the dominant motor sport in America, when daring men on twin-cylinder Harley-Davidson and Indian motorcycles went handlebar to handlebar on mile and half-mile dirt ovals before thousands of screaming fans.

But the sport began losing speed in the 1980s, eclipsed by rising enthusiasm for the wheelies and wild jumps in motocross and the high speeds and sleek machines of Grand Prix racing — which led manufacturers to concentrate their budgets on dirt bikes for off-road use and sport bikes for the street. Flat track was left in the dust.

Now a disparate group of promoters, investors, motorcycle companies and race veterans are hoping to restore luster to this American-made sport — and profit from doing so.

With new corporate sponsorship, a cable TV deal, major investments by top manufacturers, revised racing classes, schedules and events, and a coincidental wave of interest in vintage machines, flat track may be headed back toward the mainstream.

“The history of American motorcycle racing is the history of dirt racing,” said motorcycle historian Paul D’Orleans, creator of the Vintagent website and coauthor of “Cafe Racers: Speed, Style and Ton-Up Culture.” “This is a whole new era.”

Spectators new to the sport are often shocked by the visceral action, which features racers traveling at speeds up to 135 miles per hour down the straightaways before sliding at 90 mph, inches apart, through the turns.

“It’s far more exciting to watch than car racing,” D’Orleans said, “partly because it’s clearly so much more dangerous.”

CRASHTINA BILLINGS AMERICA’S ONLY FEMALE STUNT RIDER–
It’s a warm Saturday morning in North Carolina, and Christina Billings is prepping for her show. She curls her long blonde hair, applies her makeup, and cinches her rhinestone Harley-Davidson belt buckle. She loads her Iron 883 into the bed of her truck, along with fresh tires, spare parts, and tools. Tools because something is bound to go wrong, because something always does. It’s part of what it means to be a stunt rider and Christina is ready for whatever comes her way.

Check out her coverage in the New York Times.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS NEVER CLOSED–On his 70th birthday, a man was given a gift certificate from his wife. The certificate was for consultation with an Indian medicine man living on a nearby reservation who was rumored to have a simple cure for erectile dysfunction.

The husband went to the reservation and saw the medicine man. The old Indian gave him a potion and, with a grip on his shoulder, warned ‘This is a powerful medicine. You take only a teaspoonful, and then say: ‘1-2-3.’ When you do, you will become more manly than you have ever been in your life, and you can perform for as long as you want.”

The man thanked the old Indian, and as he walked away, he turned and asked: “How do I stop the medicine from working?”

“Your partner must say ‘1-2-3-4,’ he responded, “but when she does, the medicine will not work again until the next full moon. He was very eager to see if it worked so he went home, showered, shaved, took a spoonful of the medicine, and then invited his wife to join him in the bedroom. When she came in, he took off his clothes and said: “1-2-3!”

Immediately, he was the manliest of men. His wife was excited and began throwing off her clothes, and asked: “What was the 1-2-3 for?” And that, boys and girls, is why we should never end our sentences with a preposition, because we could end up with a dangling participle.

FIRST GUN NUT REPORT OF THE YEAR–California Department of Justice Withdraws Proposal of “Emergency” Large-Capacity Magazine Regulations

On Thursday, December 29, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) backed down from its proposed “emergency” regulations on large-capacity magazines, asking the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) to withdraw them from consideration.

The NRA would like to thank all those who submitted comments and made their voices heard! This would not have been possible without your efforts.

Thousands of individuals weighed in despite the suspect timing of the five-day comment period opening at the start of the Christmas weekend when few were paying attention.

The NRA and CRPA submitted a letter to the DOJ and OAL opposing the proposed “emergency” regulations on large-capacity magazines that can be read here.

A full analysis created by the NRA and CRPA attorneys of the proposed “emergency” regulations on large-capacity magazines can be read here.

While DOJ withdrawing the regulations is good news, this fight is not over. For updates please continue to check your email and www.nraila.org.

READER 2017 REPORT–I wish you and yours a very Happy New year. Here’s my two cents worth as a loyal reader.

I would really like to see more from the bagger and trike areas. It would be great to see a “refreshing” of new Cantina Girls.

You once posted a story of WW1 intrigue that in my opinion was of excellent quality but was apparently unpopular. I have always felt that Koz and the new trike editor really over reach in their writing. It seems I am in a true minority and not in the target audience for your publication, but I’m hooked none the less

–Sam

Sam, thanks so much for your comments. Like any publication we have our ups and downs and not every article will appeal to every reader. But we keep plugging away and having a good time in the process.

We will keep an eye on Bikernet Baggers and Trikes. Our new group of Editor’s is doing a helluva job and we’re looking for more advertisers to support them.

Hey Jonathan, you might check with the team at Paughco. Do you know who built frames for APC. They would have sheet metal and other components. You might look around for Daytec. They are no longer in business, but Phil sold the company to another manufacturer.–Bandit

HANG ON FOR THE NEW YEAR—It’s always a rush, a challenge, coupled with concrete goals. Then there’s the unexpected hurtles, but I’m looking forward to this one in many ways.

I’ll try to explain my plans to our Cantina members, so you have a heads up. I have a stone on my desk that says “Inspire.” Okay, with that in mind I need to put a handful of kids on the right path, while staying true to myself and our goals.

Let’s hit them quick. Let’s try to roll the Salt Torpedo onto the salt for the first time this year. I’m going to finish the mural project on the side of the building and re-coat this old building. I’m going to finish a screenplay I started last year and we are going to try our hands at a bronze sculpture for a Hamster charity effort.

Okay, but the hard part is slowing down some. I need to remove some elements of my life usurping time unnecessarily. I started yesterday. We have a Macaw. “Claude” the Macaw is a pain in the ass, and I deal with it a couple of times a day, everyday since Sinwu ran off with a sailor. Yesterday, I turned Claude over to her son Kyle. That alone freed up a half-hour everyday.

I’m going to eliminate any unnecessary electronics gadgets. I’m sick and tired of all the user names and passwords in life. I want to eliminate anything that creates an account or could force me to look at, or listen to advertisements. Think about it. Eliminate one computer, one cell phone, one land line, one extra bank account, you name it.

I’m going to back away from a few community efforts to free up more time for a ride or a race. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. It’s not easy, but there must be a way.

Let’s have more fun in 2017 and more time with friends.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
