The BROTHERHOOD SUNDAY POST

HEY,

THIS IS A GOOD ONE—I’m blown away daily about things I learn. I’m more confused than I was on Thursday with the news.

But fuck it, let’s party. We received the opportunity to drive a Vanderhall Venice Trike. Amazing! The entire driveline is GMC with a four-cylinder turbo-charged engine and front wheel drive.

Let’s get right into the news. I need to take this puppy out for a spin.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–There were protesters at the grocery store handing out pamphlets on the evils of America. I politely declined to take one. There was an elderly woman behind me and a young (20-ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined. The young protester put her hand on the old woman’s shoulder as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice the young lady said, “Lady, don’t you care about the children of Iraq?”

The old woman looked up at her and said: “Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea, and a son in Vietnam. All three died so a bitch like you could have the right to stand here and badmouth our country. If you touch me again, I’ll stick this umbrella up your ass and open it.”

STURGIS MUSEUM INTERVIEWS HAMSTER–
Spring is right around the corner and there’s lots of new things happening at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, including an outstanding new group of Hall of Fame inductees.

We took the opportunity to sit down with this year’s Hall of Fame inductees to talk with them about their career highlights and influences on the motorcycle industry over the years. We asked our inductees a handful of questions and this month we are highlighting the Hamsters USA motorcycle club, represented by Keith Terry, here is what he had to say:
SMM: What does being a Hall of Famer mean to you?

KT: To be recognized as one of the all stars of the motorcycle industry is extremely rewarding to me. I am so proud and honored to be in a group of so few.

SMM: What would you like to see in future Hall of Famers?

KT: To be more involved. I think it’s up to us to find a way to get the hall of famers more involved.

SMM: What got you started in the industry? When did you get your BIG BREAK?

KT: I switched over from automotive to the motorcycle industry where my real passion was. I was self-employed in the automotive industry and also in the motorcycle industry.

SMM: How can the Museum best preserve the history of the Rally and Industry?

KT: By showcasing the people that have dedicated their life to the motorcycle industry. (Hall of fame over the motorcycles)

SMM: What would you like to see in the Museum?

KT: More information about hall of fame inductees than anything else.

SMM: What can the Museum do to engage young people in the history of the Rally and/or future rallies?

KT: The museum is going to be a destination for all motorcycle enthusiast to better their understanding how and who played the larger roles in developing the motorcycle industry as we know it.

SMM: What is your greatest achievement?

KT: Pitching five scoreless innings against Vida Blue. Helping LifeScape provide treatment and equipment to all the young children in need. Our donation each year has made the difference to so many children.

Stay tuned for upcoming Hall of Fame highlights!

ARREST OF THE WEEKEND–Couple arrested for public sex, beating up witness
A couple was arrested in Cape Canaveral earlier this week for openly engaging in oral sex in the parking lot of an apartment complex where multiple witnesses were able to see, according to arrest documents.

Not only that, but both have been charged with beating up a witness who asked them to stop.

Deputies from Brevard County Sheriff’s Office were called to the Grant Avenue apartment complex Wednesday about 7:30 p.m. after receiving several calls from people saying they’d seen a woman performing oral sex on her partner only a few feet from the road, according to arrest reports.

Nicole Vargas, a 28-year-old New Jersey woman, was seen performing oral sex on Colton Voegele, a 23-yearold man from Washington. Both were arrested and charged with unnatural and lascivious acts in public, battery and exposure of sexual organs.

However natural or unnatural their sex acts may have been, arrest documents say both Vargas and Voegele began attacking a witness who asked them to “move along.”

“Nicole proceeded to rip the victim’s shirt off by the neck causing
the buttons to rip out, punch him in the chest with a closed fist and hit the victim on the back of the head,” according to deputies.

Colton also punched the witness in the head and jaw after being confronted, witnesses told police.

When deputies initially confronted a topless Vargas, she took off. Deputy Matthew Olka engaged in a foot pursuit with her before he caught up with her. Vargas attempted to “roll away” from Olka during the arrest and a witness helped secure her to be handcuffed, arrest reports say.

Voegele is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex on $1,500 bond. Vargas has since been released on bond.

Good article, pretty comprehensive…..but still, I have a problem with it.

First, from what I understand, if one can’t get the bike to stall out by screwing the idle mixture needle all the way in then the pilot jet is too rich. Seems to me this is never addressed within the context of this article.

Also, there SO many different needles, main jets, emulsion tubes, air bleed jets, pilot jets, etc….that I think some commentary should have been given to this aspect of things.

Specifically, what to do about ‘other’ performance issue? I’ve just recently acquired an ’03 883 Sportster, and while the motor itself is ‘stock’, I’ve installed a high-flow air intake and a 2-into-1 exhaust system.

Being in Baltimore, I’m pretty much at ‘sea-level’…..so ‘heavy air’….and generally have to run a tick or two ‘rich’ just to retain good tuning at ‘stock’ levels. But, add stuff like the pipe and Air Intake system…..and ‘tuning’ becomes even more tricky.

A proper idle isn’t too hard, nor is WOT main jetting…..but….the ‘in-between’ is a bitch! This is where proper needle type and adjustment along with a proper emulsion tube can make the difference between just ‘ok’ performance, and a real screamer. And, that kind of info was what I was looking for. WC

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT WORD OF THE DAY–
truckle

[truhk-uhl]
verb
1.
to submit or yield obsequiously or tamely (usually followed by to): Don’t truckle to unreasonable demands.

QUOTES

If anything, having professionals serve who remember that their oath is to support and defend the Constitution—and not to truckle to an individual or his clique—will be more important than ever.

— Eliot Cohen, “To An Anxious Friend,” The American Interest, November 10, 2016

ORIGIN

The noun truckle originally (in the early 15th century) meant “a small wheel with a groove around its circumference for a cord or rope to run.” Later in the same century, truckle also had the meaning “a small wheel or roller placed under a heavy object to help move it.” In the 17th century truckle was short for truckle bed or trundle bed, i.e., a low bed moving on casters and usually stored under a larger bed. It is from this last sense, the supine sense, as it were, that truckle acquired its current meaning “to yield or submit meekly” in the 17th century.

FULL THROTTLE–Bikers for Trump has big plans

It was Thursday of Daytona Bike Week, and Chris Cox was standing on a makeshift stage out in back of the No Name Saloon, a biker bar advertising cheap beer and a wet t-shirt contest.

Cox’s group Bikers for Trump was hosting a rally, ostensibly to promote the gubernatorial bid of local Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis. But DeSantis didn’t appear and his name was barely mentioned.

That’s because the bikers’ real purpose in holding the rally was to demonstrate their loyalty to President Trump. “The fact that Donald Trump has endorsed DeSantis is all Bikers for Trump needs to know,” Cox explained to the few dozen bikers on hand. “What I intend to do is simply to follow Trump’s lead.”

Following Trump’s lead has served Cox well. Three years after launching Bikers for Trump, Cox is attempting to transform the group into one of America’s most powerful grassroots political organizations.

Cox has had what can best be described as a colorful life. A chainsaw woodcarving artist who once worked as an advance man for Vice President Dan Quayle, Cox’s first brush with fame came when he mowed the lawn near the Lincoln Memorial during the 2013 government shutdown. That stunt earned Cox the nickname “lawnmower man,” and several national media appearances.

Cox launched Bikers for Trump in the fall of 2015, back when Trump’s campaign was eliciting more laughter than endorsements. In an interview in his Bikers for Trump RV the night before the DeSantis rally, Cox said he was initially laughed at for backing the reality TV star.

And it did seem odd that a group of rugged ex-vets and tattooed blue-collar types would endorse a draft-avoiding, necktie-selling Manhattanite who prefers riding in limos to mounting motorcycles.

But there was something about Trump that resonated with these bikers. There was his aversion to political correctness, which they shared. “Like Trump, the biker will tell it like it is,” Cox said. Also, Trump’s platform seemed tailor-made to bikers. “The backbone of the bike community is the vet,” said Cox. Trump’s promises to “knock the hell out of ISIS,” rebuild the military, and improve veteran healthcare were exactly what vets wanted to hear.

Bikers for Trump quickly became one of Trump’s most visible backers. The bikers patrolled the candidate’s rallies, informally working with law enforcement to identify rabble-rousers and, at times, getting into scuffles with protesters.

The bikers’ volunteer security work earned it appreciative tweets from Trump and some national media attention. After the election, Cox was invited to meet the president in the Oval Office.

Cox earned more love from Trump in the lead-up to Trump’s inauguration when some left-wing groups threatened violence. Cox responded that his bikers would form a “wall of meat” to prevent protesters from causing a disturbance. “Bikers for Trump are on their way,” Trump tweeted.

After Trump’s presidency started, the bikers began thinking of ways to capitalize on their newfound stature.

Working mostly with a staff of part-time volunteers, Cox has increased the group’s social media presence and the group now boasts 100,000 members, according to Cox. He established the Bikers for Trump political action committee to boost Trump-backed candidates across the country. Cox has held rallies and produced promotional videos for several Republican candidates. He is planning events in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.

But Cox’s ambitions aren’t confined to the ballot box. Speaking with me, Cox seemed most excited about helping the Trump administration combat the opioid epidemic. His plan involves erecting mobile drug treatment centers across the Rust Belt and on Indian Reservations.

Cox has visions of turning bikers into a voting bloc as influential as evangelicals or gun owners. “There’s no reason we can’t be the NRA,” he said.

But unlike those groups, Bikers for Trump isn’t rooted in a religion or a constitutional right but rather in an unflagging loyalty to a man. “We are not ‘Bikers Who Think We Know Best,” Cox likes to say. “We are ‘Bikers for Trump.’ He has to point the direction. He’s the compass. We don’t ever get ahead of him.”

Trump has delivered on the issues bikers care about most. Under Trump, the United States has helped liberate nearly 100 percent of the territory held by ISIS. The spending bill signed by Trump in March included $700 billion for the military, the largest military budget in U.S. history.

Not surprisingly, Cox thinks Trump is doing an “awesome job.” And he has some advice for the Trump haters. “Remember that song by Stephen Stills, ‘If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with’? The ones that don’t like him, they should take that song to heart, because he’s doing a great job,” Cox said.

According to Cox, reforming the VA should be America’s most urgent priority. “Twenty-two vets a day kill themselves,” he said. “Who’s helping them? These vets I meet, they don’t go to the VA because they don’t think they’ll get care they need. That in itself is a crisis.” Cox thinks that Trump’s plan to replace David Shulkin with White House physician Ronny Jackson to lead the VA is a step in the right direction.

Back at the No Name Saloon, Cox was followed on stage by Rolling Thunder’s Michael Shelby, or “New York Myke” as he is known in the biker community. Supporting Trump is just like being in the military, Shelby said, “You fall in line and you follow orders.”

After Shelby spoke it was Fred Costello’s turn. A dentist and Florida assemblyman who’s running to replace DeSantis in the House, Costello looked a little out of place wearing a sport jacket and slacks.

But Costello knew his audience well and, after a brief introduction by Cox, gave them wanted to hear: “Let me tell you what I love about Donald Trump.”

NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL MOTORISTS ASSOCIATION–Driver’s License Watch—Your Private Info for Sale

Personal information privacy seems to be a fluid construct these days. We give our information to social media companies like Facebook who sell the information for gain (Cambridge Analytica Scandal). We also give our private information directly to marketers if we enter any online contest, ask for information online about products or fill out an information form to obtain a preferred shopping card at the local supermarket.

According to a recent study, identity theft hit an all-time high in 2016 and one in six US adults were a victim. Date of birth is the biggest prize an identity thief wants because then he or she can open up credit cards, cellphone contracts and bank loans all under your name. Social security numbers are also prime targets. Both of these pieces of information can be obtained from your driver’s license.
Motorists have an expectation of driver’s license privacy. The Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) was enacted in 1994 to protect the personal information assembled by your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Under DPPA, personal information about an individual in connection with a motor vehicle record is prohibited for release or use by DMV personnel. DPPA also requires states to obtain permission from individuals before their personal record may be sold or released to third-party marketers.

That hasn’t stopped a number of states from selling driver’s license information to marketers without consent. States like Texas claim the selling of information does not violate DPPA because it is sold to a middle man who THEN sells the information to marketers.

In November, Austin television station KXAN investigated and found that Texas made $2.1 million per year by selling information to marketers. KXAN also found that some of the businesses that bought data had been hacked. The biggest: Equifax.

In early March, Equifax reported that the data of another 2.4 million Americans had been breached with just the availability of their name and partial driver’s license number. This brings the total to 147.9 million Americans who were victimized with the Equifax breach since the middle of 2017.

The vast majority of those affected had their Social Security Number exposed.
In a 2016 interview, Joe Malley, a Dallas-based lawyer with the moniker “Privacy Crusader,” said that Texas roughly sells 30 million motor vehicle and driver records to more than 200 companies per year. Malley said in the past, he had filed federal lawsuits in eight states involving 500 companies seeking privacy protection for 145 million Americans. And selling this information is not just about identity theft but personal safety too. He gives two important examples.

After receiving an extended car warranty pitch on the phone, a frantic woman called Malley to ask if her address was publicly available. She was concerned because her boyfriend had tried to kill her when she lived in Arizona and she was frantic to learn that since her address was public, he could find her again.

Looking into Washington State records for a different case, Malley found a pedophile had requested information for any girls aged 7 to 12 who had asked for a state ID card. Using the list he obtained, the man marketed a beauty contest for these girls. To enter, they only had to submit a photograph of themselves wearing a bathing suit. Malley forwarded his findings to the authorities who quickly handled the situation.

In a November 2017 Mobile TV station story about Alabama selling driver’s license information, Malley was interviewed and noted that “The DMV data is basically (what) I call the holy grail of all marketing data. Most states sell the motor vehicle records, about 37 of the states.”

In 2015, a Texas Court of Appeals declared that the date of birth of “every living person” is not public information. When middlemen sell that information to marketers though, that private information becomes very public.

In 2016, a Tampa, Florida TV Station investigation revealed that Florida had generated nearly $150 million in the past two years from sales of driver records to 75 different marketing firms. A number of those firms resold the information to other businesses and individuals, stating that they were utilizing exemptions under the DPPA such as “requesting my own record,” “requesting a family member’s record,” “requesting an employee’s record,” and “requesting for other business purposes.” As you might expect, none of these are actual exemptions under DPPA.

With the advent of current state experiments with digital driver’s licenses and REAL ID which connects information into a vast national database, and with states selling information to the highest bidder, protection of personal data is moving in exactly the wrong direction.

This is happening at my local VA – BAY PINES….April 5th……..Please share!

So this morning I got a call from my wonderful friend Rebecca about Star, a beautiful and super sweet disabled veteran’s PTSD service dog who needed a bath and flea pill so she could stay with her Dad, Vietnam veteran, John Cunios at the nursing home at Baypines VA nursing home.

John has another month stay ahead of him at the VA nursing home. Grabbed the shampoo, towel, stopped by my vet to buy her a flea pill and off Rebecca and I went to the VA where me met up with her son (head custodian), John and Star.

We were polite and asked, if we could bathe her here or had to take her off property for the bath. Oh you can use the woman’s locker room. We were thanked and reassured bath and pill is all that’s needed for John to keep her during his one more month at the nursing home.

Off we went to the locker room where I showered with this beautiful girl. Everything was great, Star really enjoyed her bath until nurse Grevilla (RN Susan) came in and ran her mouth and a couple other nurses, visibly, appalled for me bathing her. You all know me and my mouth and I fired back wanting names, badges…. and how they will be mentioned in my letter to Trump.

We got done with the shower to be met by the nurse manager, Serena Haughbrook and were informed that this dog must be removed from the premises or she’ll be going to the pound.

It was implied that Star isn’t a service dog, although she had her credentials and service jacket on her. Oh, anyone can buy this off the Internet insults were thrown out. (At that point, Rebecca and I had spent an hour with Star and she presented just like a service dog would).

I wasn’t letting go and continued to fight for her and John. So Serena took us to the head of patient advocacy and we pleaded with her. She says, PTSD dogs aren’t real service dogs and then reached into her folder and pulled out a paper defining service dogs. Well PTSD dogs are on that list.

Next excuse, dog has shown aggressive behavior towards staff and the VA’s owned therapy dogs, dog roams off leash, sleeps in bed, blah blah blah.

There was no winning this case and we took her with us. It was so heartbreaking to watch John and Star say their Good Bye for now, but I couldn’t allow the VA to send Star to the pound. She’s in my custody, now. I will get her with a service dog trainer to keep up her skills, so she can jump right back into her job when John and her will reunite.

The instigator RN was put on suspension w/o pay until further notice and more head rolling to come. John and Star have quite the support from outside as well as 90% of staff at nursing home he’s at.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY POLITICAL SCIENCE CLASS–Parallel’s between today’s USA and the centuries of misery of India.

India is supposedly a 5000-year-old civilization, which became a melting pot of cultures some 2000 years ago. The Hindus went into decline in practice and popularity with the wave of Buddhism and Jainism, which conquered most of India. The greatest Hindu Emperor till date, Ashoka, also gave up Hinduism and started promoting Buddhist religion.

Of course there is no similarity whatsoever between the Buddhism preached and practiced during the time of Gautam Buddha and the present day Buddhists in India and around the world. Just as well, of course, there is no similarity between the Hindus of Golden Age of Vedic Hindu period and modern Hindus in India and elsewhere.

Further corruption and destruction of native Indian culture and lifestyle happened with the invasion of Islamic savages around 1000 years ago. Suddenly, Hindu women had do cover their faces in “pallu” just as Muslim women wear bound in “burqa”. Ancient sacred temples were demolished overnight to build mosques on the very same spot to prove conquest and submission of native Indians.

Convert or die was the order for non-Muslims by their new Emperors, Nawabs and landlords. The great Eastern State of Bengal was raped, pillaged and slaughtered in a mass genocide.

The Sikh religion came into being 500 years ago as a new alternative to save Indian natives against the incredible torture of humans by Muslims. Sikh leaders and warriors prominently also saved the local Hindus from extreme cruelty and death from the inhuman animal-like Muslims.

Finally, the British Empire with just a handful of troops managed to conquer the vast Indian subcontinent and as elsewhere was their practice, imposed Christianity at gunpoint to the heads of Indians.

After India’s pathetic Independence in 1947, India was penniless, helpless and burdened with the incompetence of handful of its leaders. Invasion by China and Pakistan to this spineless Republic of India occurred despite India having bent backwards and forwards to have allowed Chinese and Pakistanis to ass-fuck India innumerable times.

In 21st century, India continues to bear the sins of its ancestors. Every religion in India wants its own independent Republic nation carved out of modern India. Further still, there are the numerous languages along which also the Indians want separate independent nations. Illegal immigrants from Tibet, Nepal, Bangladesh, Burma also demand their own independent nations from this same India.

This is typical multicultural democratic nation. This is what USA wants to become as per popular American intellectuals, media, celebrities and politicians.

Modern USA is surrounded by incredibly less privileged nations. Mass illegal immigration from its neighboring illiterate, incompetent and alien cultures have caused a chaos in its natural resources, economy, citizen lifestyle and internal security. The well-to-do American neighbor, Canada, has incredibly strict immigration laws where you can’t get in without exceptional test scores in English language, accredited recognized academic qualifications, proof of financial strength and thorough background check by police.

Meanwhile, landing in USA and getting hold of a Green Card and a Social Security Number, Driving License and Voter ID is cakewalk for people around the world. Eventually they get a full citizenship without knowing the English language, without accepting or adopting American culture and lifestyle and continually refusing to follow law and legislation. Then there is the bulk of refugees from around the world who petition for overnight citizenship of USA.

Similarly the multicultural Republic of Secular Democratic India continues to entertain illegal immigrants from shit-hole neighboring nations of Tibet, Nepal, Bangladesh, Burma, etc. There are refugees escaping genocide in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and China who also end up in India. So the celebrated melting pot of cultures called India is cooking a stinking mess of piss and blood overflowing into daily terrorist attacks, riots and organized crime in all cities of India. Of course, having captured territory before from this hybrid Indians, the Chinese and Pakistani military continue to stage advances to try and grab more sovereign territory from a nation of India where the citizens now have no identity. They are all now Indians.

These unchecked immigration and unfair citizenship granted to them is encouraged by vast majority of politicians in India. It forms their voter base or as is known to Indians, a “Vote Bank”. This cultivation of voters is why politicians in USA want to hand out citizenship to anyone and everyone who can divide the nation to make it easier for them to rule the broken State. “Divide and Rule”.

So now, Indians fight against Indians in India. Americans fight against Americans in America. The average American has a valid identity crisis. If all these despicable immigrants are also American citizens just like them then what does it mean to be “American?” No Indian citizen can define what it means to be an Indian either because they have had an identity crisis since many centuries.

The Empire of Rome was such. An expansive vast territory trying to govern multiple religions, multiple languages, multiple races, multiple cultures, multiple philosophies.

Before that, the beautiful Kingdom of Israel built by the most wise King Solomon had celebrated the same damned multiculturalism. Solomon only had Israel. He didn’t invade neighbors and had no ambition to conquer the world the way it was dreamed by Caesar, or Alexander the Great, or Genghis Khan. True to his G-d, he only wanted to have his Israel.

The thriving Israel of King Solomon attracted people, traders, scholars from the thriving civilizations around Israel, far and near. Solomon allowed them to practice their culture, speak their language and build their own places of worship while living in the utopia of Israel. Even the foreign wives of King Solomon prayed to their native Gods including Baal. After the death of King Solomon, nothing remained of the great Solomon’s temple and Israel collapsed in a matter of few years.

If USA and its leaders can learn from the past and from recent history, they can still correct the direction of their nation. As-is, USA, known as the land of opportunity to modern world will soon perish, no longer the world leader, no longer the superpower, no longer a “United States.” There is no such thing as unity in diversity. Education cannot change beliefs. Just as there are highly educated white Americans who will cling to orthodox beliefs that the Earth is flat and that the Earth is only few thousand years old, do you sincerely believe you can educate the cold-blooded savages from the Middle East who continue to live like tribal cavemen in modern cities of America?

The final parallel between the fate of India and USA is the present day Government. Both India and USA are in awakening having elected determined head of state in the last election. Both India and USA face a life-changing upcoming election. In USA, leaders from all parties rally against their elected President to make sure he does not get a second term as President. In India, every political party and its leaders have isolated the elected Prime Minister to ensure he does not get a second term in office. There is no Third World War. There is only Civil War, riots, corruption and slavery.

I thought this was very informative and well written story about the status quo of bikers today!!! At time I felt that I was there talking

to all the folks he mentioned in his story. It seems that this level of enthusiastic bikers never get older only better.

Whenever I read an account of a past happening or looking forward to the next event a familiar saying on a t-shirt always comes to mind, ” For some no explanation is necessary and for some no explanation is possible !!!

Thank you for a beautiful visit on a nasty rainy day in North Carolina.

QUICK KEEP THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN–
Every time I hear the dirty word ‘exercise’, I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

A man got on the bus with both of his front trouser pockets full of golf balls and sat down next to a beautiful (you guessed it) blonde.

The puzzled blonde kept looking at him and his bulging pockets. Finally, after many glances from her, he said, “It’s golf balls.”

The blonde continued to look at him for a very long time, thinking deeply about what he had said. After several minutes, not being able to contain her curiosity any longer, she asked, “Does it hurt as much as tennis elbow?”

QUICK New Bikernet Reader Comment!– CONFUSING BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for April 5, 2018

http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=13611

The internet has not only killed magazines, it has killed swap meets and even parts sales by local shops. It’s sad to take a trip to a news stand nowadays. Very few motorcycle magazines left.

To add to this THE HORSE magazine cancelling subscribers does not help.

I used to look forward to swap meets around as a seller and a buyer. They have dwindled to nothing. Another very sad realization.

You can not sell anything there no matter what the price is. First thing you hear is” I can buy for half that price on e-bay?”

As far as selling parts from local shops it is the same story. With all the good things the internet has bought us, it has hurt this part of the industry.

MORE FROM THE STURGIS HALL OF FAME–Motorcycle Riders Foundation’s Kirk ‘Hardtail’ Willard
Recipient of Coveted Sturgis Freedom Fighter Award

The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame recently issued an announcement confirming the incoming class of the 2018 Hall of Fame-ers.

Each year, the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame recognizes individuals or groups who have made a long-term, positive impact on the motorcycle community.

This year’s class is noteworthy and diverse featuring artisans and craftsmen, philanthropic organizations and several women; all who have made an impact in the world of motorcycling. However, this year, a special award category, designated as The Freedom Fighter Award, was identified. The recipient for 2018 is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, Kirk “Hardtail” Willard.

Hardtail, as he is known in the motorcycle rights world, is spoken upon with the highest regard from riders representing all walks of life. From the aftermarket industry and original equipment manufacturers to the motorcycle clubs and state motorcycle rights’ organizations, he is known as a force to be reckoned with.

Logging thousands upon thousands of miles on his motorcycles, his objectives have always stayed pure; to promote and preserve motorcycle riders’ freedoms and lifestyle. He has done just this not only locally in his home state of Wisconsin, but nationally and internationally through his work with the Motorcycle Riders Foundation.

A Lengthy List of Accomplishments

His name is synonymous with the Motorcycle Riders Foundation; an organization of motorcycle rights activists directly responsible for the historic repeal of the federal government funding incentive for states to require a helmet to ride a motorcycle. Though Hardtail himself worked to steer the MRF and its supporters in their efforts to ban National Highway Traffic Safety Administration employees to lobby state governments to implement universal protective gear laws.

He worked tirelessly throughout the years, refuting EPA’s “Color and Chrome” initiative which would only allow riders to make cosmetic changes to their bikes, but would affect their performance through emission control devices. Prior to his taking over as Chairman of the MRF Board of Directors, he helped voice support to establish (and eventually expand) the only national lobby and advocacy day for bikers in the nation’s Capital.

Known as “Bikers Inside the Beltway” Hardtail helped to augment this yearly gathering into a highly anticipated powerhouse of an event, attracting hundreds of bikers from across the country to Washington, D.C. to meet with their elected officials. In recent years, the event has expanded, bringing rider education and training tools directly to the Capitol for lawmakers and staff to experience as well as plans to collaborate with the House Motorcycle Caucus this year in an event to recognize May as Motorcycle Awareness Month.

In more recent years, Hardtail’s leadership and work on the federal highway transportation bill lead to provisions which ended all federal funding of motorcycle only checkpoints which had been used as a way to target those who ride under the guise of “compliance checks.”

He was also one of the catalysts in resurrecting the Motorcyclist Advisory Council – a group of riders with a direct connection to the nation’s top highway safety professionals to advise them on issues of importance to motorcyclists. And under his direction in 2017, bipartisan and bicameral legislation was introduced, recognizing and condemning instances of motorcyclist profiling and encouraging states to take action.

Accolades Across Aisles

Those who know him often compare his leadership style to that of President Theodore Roosevelt’s mantra – to walk softly and carry a big stick. His tireless and relentless commitment to the motorcycle community has made an impression on his friends and colleagues including Dave Dwyer, who is a former Board Member of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and active member of ABATE of Wisconsin; “I have traveled the country with Hardtail and I feel that there is nobody in the United States more deserving of inclusion in Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame than Kirk “Hardtail” Willard.”

And in Willard’s home state, the Executive Director of ABATE of Wisconsin Dave Charlebois said, “Not only has Hardtail given a significant amount of time and effort to the motorcycle rights movement at the local, state, and national levels, he has inspired and mentored leaders for decades and has selflessly ensured we remain strong and vigilant. I can think of no one more deserving of inclusion to the Sturgis Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame.”

Even those not directly involved in the motorcycle rights world were aware of his affect on the motorcycle community. Former Member of Congress Reid Ribble, who represented the 8th district of Wisconsin from 2011-2016 said, “No one could be surprised by the news that “Hardtail” has been selected for the Sturgis Freedom Fighter Award. He regularly visited me while I served in Congress and was among the most effective advocates for the motorcycling community that I ever worked with. He is a true champion of riders everywhere and this recognition is well deserved!”

Mr. Willard will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 78th Sturgis Rally set for August 3-12, 2018. A breakfast and ceremony in honor of the inductees will take place at 9am on Wednesday, August 9. Tickets are available online at https://www.sturgismuseum.com/Hall-of-Fame-Banquet-Tickets or interested parties can be invited to sit at a table purchased by the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and ABATE of Wisconsin in honor of Willard’s induction.

New TRUCK Bikernet Reader Comment!–CONFUSING BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for April 5, 2018

Hey Bandit maybe you should look for an old needle nose Peterbilt or LJ mack, a custom sleeper on a 6-wheel frame and a toy hauler as well.

I have a good friend, who has a cabover Peterbilt to pull his camper and haul his toys.

I have worn it out, just saying I came home in ’67. The ones who protested and hid in Canada now run the country or their offspring do. Now we have several red flag states. Is this another way to disarm the country?

What about 18-year-olds not being able to buy a rifle or ammo? They are old enough to serve and carry a weapon.

I don’t want self-driving vehicles or electric. If you don’t want to drive take a bus. We have the sundial here in central fly. If I want to go the Ace cafe and don’t want to drive take the train. Enough, I will get off my soap box and go to for a ride.

HANG ON—Next week may be full of surprises. We will attempt to publish the Vanderhall road test unless Quick Throttle Magazine steps in.

We are going to spill the beans on the Trikes of Daytona, and I’ll work on Frankie’s Dyna, the final chapter.

As soon as Larry Settle has time to fill out his turbo charges tech chart we will feature his Dyna pumped with a Trask Turbo.

And I’m working on a feature on a classic Evo chopper. It’s not that special, but the owner can’t stop and repainted it recently. We will bring you the original and his upgrade. Can’t leave well enough alone.

See ya, I gotta take the Redhead for a spin.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
