Hey,
Life is so nuts we need to keep it light once in a while. This has been an incredible week. First I hear the current deal for Easyriders Magazine group is no longer on the table. I made a call, and a new deal was kicked off with a passionate player (ex-staff member) who was left behind and his new investors. I wish them and the brand all the luck in the world. The next day a rumor was passed that I was involved in buying Easyriders, again. How shit flies fast, unfortunately that rumor was false.
I found out Cyril Huze is shutting down his blog on Tuesday. I hope it’s not health issues. I met with Mil Blair, who was one of the partners with Easyriders and Jammer Cycle and bought two David Mann paintings, one for my son and one for my grandson. He has quite a collection.
Union: Harley-Davidson will ship jobs overseas–Sorta
A labor union for Harley- Davidson believes the nation’s best known motorcycle maker is closing its factory in Kansas City in order to move some of the work to a new plant in Thailand.
Harley has said it will close the Kansas City factory despite pleas from some members of Congress to keep it open and retain about 800 jobs. Harley says it’s moving the Kansas City work to the company’s plant in York, Pa., creating about 400 additional jobs in York.
But in a meeting Wednesday with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., members of the Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said at least some of the work was headed to Thailand.
“Part of my job is being moved to York, but the other part is going to Bangkok,” said Richard Pence, a machinist at the Kansas City plant.
Harley-Davidson has denied there’s a connection between Kansas City and Thailand.
“The plant under construction in Thailand is a separate and unrelated issue,” the company said in a statement. “Part of our long-term strategy is to grow our international business to 50% of our annual volume by 2027.”
Harley-Davidson has said the Thailand plant will assemble bikes from components produced at the company’s U.S. facilities. The Milwaukee-based manufacturer also has a motorcycle assembly plant in India, where it builds the company’s popular Street-model bikes for foreign markets.
“Increasing production capacity in Asia is consistent with the company’s long-term strategy to focus on growth internationally. It is not intended to reduce U.S. manufacturing,” the company said.
But that case is tough to accept in Kansas City, where the company has assembled some of its
most popular motorcycles since 1997.
“I am being directly affected by a corporate decision that I had no say in,” said Pence, who has worked at the plant for 21 years and has the highest seniority in the facility. Pence, who works in machine maintenance, said engineers from the plant are going to Thailand to help set up that operation, with trial production runs expected this summer.
He believes that some of the Kansas City plant’s equipment, too, will be shipped to Thailand. “They are going over everything now, getting ready to crate it up,” he said.
About 35% of the bikes assembled in Kansas City are destined for sale outside the U.S., Pence says, although Harley would not confirm that.
Asia has been one of the company’s fastest-growing markets, but over the years it’s also been a market with steep tariffs on U.S.-made motorcycles.
“We have been fighting tariffs for the 21 years I have been employed with the company. But tariffs are just a fact of life,” Pence said.
U.S. sales have been sinking in recent years as Baby Boomers begin to age out of riding and fewer younger people step up to take their place.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY– A man was looking for a place to sit in a crowded university library. He asked a girl: “Do you mind if I sit beside you?” The girl replied, in a loud voice: “NO, I DON’T WANT TO SPEND THE NIGHT WITH YOU!”
All the people in the library started staring at the man, who was deeply embarrassed and moved to another table.
After a couple of minutes, the girl walked quietly to the man’s table and said with a laugh: “I study psychology, and I know what a man is thinking; I bet you felt embarrassed, right?”
The man responded in a loud voice: “250 FOR ONE NIGHT? ….. I`M NOT PAYING THAT MUCH!” All the people in the library looked at the girl in shock.
The man whispered to her: “I study law, and I know how to screw people.”

Nashville BIKE WEEK Founder Gets Jail Time In Tennessee On Unrelated Charges–
The man behind the failed Nashville Bike Week and at the center of a recent NewsChannel 5 investigation was sentenced to nine months behind bars in Tennessee.
Michael Leffingwell was the man behind the music and motorcycle festival that was supposed to be held last fall, but never happened.
It was originally supposed to be held at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Humphreys County, but that and at least four other locations eventually fell through.
The NewsChannel 5 investigation found Leffingwell was wanted in nearly half a dozen states at the same time he was promoting the event. After serving time in Kentucky on unrelated charges, Leffingwell was moved to Maury County. Now a judge there has revoked his probation in another unrelated theft case where he’d stolen more than a thousand dollars.
Leffingwell has not faced any charges however in relation to Nashville Bike Week. It’s estimated that he sold more than a million dollars worth of tickets, but refused to provide refunds to most of his customers.

THE SEARCH FOR A BOB HALL BIKE–
Hey I came across a posting or article asking about Bob Hall and US Motorcycles. Do you know much about them? My dad had a bike built there with paint by Vol Sol and it was a ‘50 Panhead with dual Lake Injectors. He sold it back to Bob Hall in the mid to late ‘70s.
I’m trying to find info on the bike and or if it is around anymore. Here are some images. It was featured in Custom Chopper, February ‘74. Article was called Peacemakers Pacemaker.
I know the bike was candy apple red and had the paint work done by Von Sol. My dad (Dave Foley) was for a little while a LA County Sheriffs deputy (when he had the bike), then moved to Parker, AZ.
He ended up getting rid of the bike, said he sold it back to Bob Hall maybe. Have always had interest in finding out if it’s possibly still around. Probably a long shot.
–Pat Foley
This is wild. I knew Bob Hall. He was my boss at US Choppers in Inglewood just after I got out of the Navy, after three tours in Vietnam. I enrolled at Long Beach City College and went looking for part time work.
I didn’t know shit. I had built one bike and rebuilt one engine. I knew how to weld with a stick and braze and bugged Bob and his partner George until they gave me a job. We had a couple of customers who were LA Sheriffs and madmen. If you wanted to ride into the night and raise hell, these were the guys to ride with.
When I left the shop, I went to work for Easyriders Magazine on the third issue. I hope he can find the bike. Bob was a helluva builder. –Bandit
BLENDING IN IS NOT AN OPTION: NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON SOFTAIL BOBBER-STYLE ACCESSORIES
The heritage of Harley-Davidson Motor Company runs deep on greasy hands, on tire tracks in the dirt and on streets of all shapes and sizes around the world. Over the past decades, also synonymous with motorcycles comes the need for owners to customize them.
One of the most popular ways, the minimalist Bobber-style, arose from a desire to go fast. In the 1930s, early American Motorcyclist Association racers tore off excess parts and used only what was needed to win. This history was built two hands at a time in garages and backyard sheds evolving in the 40s to feature distinct paint, smaller gas tanks, raised handlebars and upswept exhaust styles.
Fast forward to 2018, and Harley-Davidson is continuing to inspire customers to stand out from the crowd. H-D Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories inspire customers who yearn for a garage-built, striped-down look a plethora of new Bobber-style options.
The new Bobber-themed parts are designed to appeal to those who prefer classic lines, minimalism, authentic materials and built-to-last products. Transform your Softail® motorcycle into a custom Bobber with the new living-finish Brass Collection, a Single-Sided Swingarm Bag, a 21” Sissy Bar, a Fat Ape Handlebar or a Leather Solo Seat.
SINGLE-SIDED SWINGARM BAGS
The new Single-Sided Swingarm Bag (P/N 90201567 Black or 90201568 Antique Brown, $219.95) will hold riding essentials a rider might otherwise stuff into pockets or bungee across the passenger pillion.
Constructed of heavyweight leather, the bag features a pouch-style flap lid that is secured with two quick-disconnect clips hidden behind traditional straps and buckles on the Black and buckles-only on the Antique Brown. Shaped to hug the contour of the bike’s frame, this compact bag adds an old-school look. The semi rigid-backed bag is secured to the left side of the bike with easy-to-install adjustable straps.
Fits ’00-later Softail® models (except Heritage Softail® Classic, Softail® Deluxe).

ONE-PIECE TALL RIGID MOUNT SISSY BAR
Strap on your bed roll or your backpack, and hit the road with the new One-Piece Tall Rigid Mount Sissy Bar (P/N 52300502 Gloss Black or 52300503 Chrome, $209.95).
This classic paper-clip style sissy bar is the perfect finishing touch to a stripped-down bobber build. The 21” sissy bar features a rolled steel upright that is welded to the rigid-mount side plates for a custom look.
Bolted directly to the fender struts, the upright offers a narrow profile and clean installation. Designed to complement two-up and solo-seat equipped motorcycles, the kit includes installation hardware for a Passenger Backrest Pad (P/N 52300504, however, the pad is sold separately).
Fits ‘18-later Heritage/S, Street Bob, Deluxe and Slim models.
FAT APE HANDLEBARS
Experience a true fist-in-the-wind riding position with a new 12” Fat Mini-Ape or a 16” Fat Ape Handlebar. The 1.25” fat ape bars are big, beefy and shaped for the perfect mix of comfort and style.
The bar features a traditional shape that tapers from a narrow base to a wide-open stance. It provides a flat hand position with less of the turned-in shape that can put stress on your wrists.
The bar is also factory drilled to allow internal wiring and finished in your choice of show-quality chrome or gloss black surfaces. The handlebar can be installed in the Original Equipment risers on models with 1.25” handlebars or use a Fat Handlebar Riser Kit (P/N 55900122 Chrome or 55900123 Gloss Black, $139.95) to install on motorcycles with a stock 1” bar.
BOBBER SOLO SADDLES
Harley-Davidson’s new Bobber Solo Seats take the stripped-down garage-built look about as far as you can go.
Each seat features different styles of supple leather creating unique appearances in four options: Tuck and Roll, Smooth Leather with Trim Ring, Black or Brown Distressed Leather.
Each seat is easy to install with no cutting, welding or fabrication needed. The purchase of a separate Spring Seat Installation Kit includes everything needed for fitment on Street Bob and Slim motorcycles. The Installation Kit includes beehive style springs that help cushion the ride, or for maximum old school style, add the low profile Rigid Mount Kit (P/N 52100043, $49.95) for a truly slammed look.
Looking to go long distance two-up riding, without hassle the solo seat can be removed and replaced with a touring seat.

NEW FROM SCOTT JACOBS--Happy Spring! I hope you are enjoying the change in weather, colorful flowers beginning to bloom and the days getting longer. We are in South Dakota; we just had our last snow about two weeks ago!
Anyway, back on track!
After ten years in the making, we are finally unveiling a painting of an extremely unique motorcycle. This motorcycle is the rarest motorcycle Scott has ever released as a Limited Edition Print, let alone, photographed.
Without further ado. I give you, “Cyclone”.
Giclee on Canvas
Edition Size: 50
Image Size: 20″ x 30″
Available unframed or framed.
NOTE: We will release the edition to the public Tuesday, May 15h at 6pm MST.
“I am honored to paint what a lot of enthusiasts call ‘The Holy Grail’ of motorcycles. It is, to date, the most expensive motorcycle in the world!”—Scott Jacobs
If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, you’ve heard of Cyclone’s. It’s unlikely that most of us will ever see this motorcycle in person, but with Scott’s painting, you get to see it close up. You’re able to experience its character; its patina paint and scratches, and possibly understand why it was the fastest motorcycle of its time.
The vibrant colors make the painting want to jump off the wall. It’s hard for anyone to not notice this beauty and want to know more.
It’s something that any Motor Head would respect and drool over.

“Why, nothing,” says the girl. “I just sat behind him with my arms around him, holding onto his saddle horn.”

The Dan Auerbach Collection– Vintage Harley-Davidsons from 1937-1950
Lane Motor Museum Hosts The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach’s
Lane Motor Museum is excited to announce that it has opened its newest public exhibit displaying The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach’s Vintage Harley-Davidson collection, starting today.
While known as a talented musician with a passionate work ethic, Dan’s passion for vintage motorcycles is less well known. Dan Auerbach’s collection consists of those Harley-Davidsons that have not been fully restored, yet retain much of the character of the prior owners, including the modifications that reflect their personalities.
Ten of these motorcycles will be on display in the exhibit The Dan Auerbach Collection: Vintage Harley-Davidsons from 1937-1950, opening Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, TN.
“We are honored and thrilled to host Dan’s vintage Harley collection” said Jeff Lane, Lane Motor Museum Director. “This is the first time that Dan’s collection is being shown to the public and he has such unique pieces so full of character that casual observers and collectors alike will enjoy it.”
From the revolutionary 1937 EL “Knucklehead”, Dan’s first Harley, to his favorite, a 1940 EL nicknamed “Red Devil”, these bikes fuse his appreciation for folk art with the sound and ride that only a vintage Harley can deliver. As the son of an antique dealer, Auerbach caught the bug early for a vintage aesthetic that has carried into his adult life. Filled with patina and personality, each of the bikes in this collection reflect his love and appreciation for a time long past. All of the bikes are in working order and are ridden often by Auerbach.
The Dan Auerbach Collection: Vintage Harley-Davidsons from 1937-1950 will be on display starting May 10, 2018 at the Lane Motor Museum, in Nashville, TN.

SMOKE POT OR LOSE YOUR MIND–Elderly people should smoke POT to prevent memory loss, study claims: Cannabis revived brains of old mice – and could do the same in humans
A study by researchers in Germany found THC in cannabis slowed memory loss
Old mice regained their speed of memory and learning after consuming pot.
The researchers are set to start human trials this year using the drug, just 2 months after Germany legalized medical marijuana.
It comes as countries around the world race to understand the drug as medicine
Cannabis could help prevent memory loss in the elderly, a new study has found.
Researchers in Germany, who are set to begin human trials later this year, say the drug may even help delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease by slowing the brain’s natural ageing process.
The mental power of older mice improved dramatically after they were given THC, the psychoactive part of marijuana that makes users ‘high’.
In fact, their brain connections in the hippocampus – which controls learning, memory and emotions – were firing as well as those of young adults.

Old mice regained their speed of memory after consuming pot, German scientists found
Psychologist Professor Andreas Zimmer of Bonn University in Germany said the findings are essential in the movement to understand cannabis as a form of medicine.
More than half of the highly influential United States has voted in favor of legalization for medical use, and Germany followed suit just two months ago.
In the latest experiments three groups of mice that were 18 (old), 12 (mature) and two months (young) were regularly injected with low doses of THC for 28 days.
The equivalent ages in human years would be 64, 58 and 20, respectively.
Both before and after the treatment they were challenged with a series of tasks that tested their learning and memory skills.
These included negotiating their way around a water maze, locating objects and recognizing other mice.
In young mice THC impaired their performance. But the same therapy actually improved learning and memory in both of the older sets of animals.
Prior to receiving THC they did poorly. But afterwards they were as efficient as the young mice had been before being given the compound that, interestingly, reduced their mental skills.
Prof Zimmer, a psychiatrist at Bonn University, said THC boosted genes that control neurons in the hippocampus – restoring them to the same patterns observed in young animals.
‘THC treatment restored hippocampal gene transcription patterns such that the expression profiles of THC-treated mice aged 12 months closely resembled those of THC-free animals aged 2 months.’
The study was published in Nature Medicine.

A Voting Rights Push–Allowing Felons to Cast Ballots–As the midterm elections draw closer, Dameon Stackhouse is eager to cast a ballot, but he can’t under New Jersey law because he remains on parole after more than a decade behind bars for second-degree robbery.
“We have no say,” said Mr. Stackhouse, a 41-year-old construction worker and student at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. “This is one of the worst things you can do to a citizen.”
New Jersey is weighing a measure that would immediately restore voting rights to Mr. Stackhouse and more than 94,000 other state residents with convictions. If passed by the state’s Democratic-controlled Senate and General Assembly, it would be the third U.S. state, along with Maine and Vermont, to allow people to vote even while incarcerated.
From the Northeast to the Deep South, advocates are working to roll back felon-disenfranchisement laws, saying they are unfair because they strip away fundamental democratic rights and disproportionately affect African-Americans. Those who back the restrictions contend people who have committed felonies need to demonstrate they are truly reformed to regain the vote.
Fights are flaring in several states, including in New York and Mississippi. In 2016, Maryland lawmakers overrode the Republican governor’s veto to enact a measure restoring voting rights for people on parole or probation. The same year, then-Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia, a Democrat, issued an executive order re-enfranchising people with felony records.
Florida is in the midst of a two-front battle. Last month, Republican Gov. Rick Scott and other Florida officials appealed a federal judge’s ruling that the state’s system for restoring voting rights to former prisoners is unconstitutional, securing a stay of the order. Meanwhile, an initiative on the November ballot in Florida would restore voting rights to an estimated 1.4 million people with felony convictions.
Forty-eight states remove voting rights in some way from people convicted of crimes, but policies vary widely. Some, like Florida and Kentucky, revoke such rights permanently and require petitioning for reinstatement. Others, such as Indiana and Massachusetts, automatically restore voting rights upon release from prison.
During the past few decades, the general trend has been toward reinstating voting rights, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Still, the ranks of those disenfranchised for felony convictions have increased, reflecting decades when incarceration rates were swelling. Between 1976 and 2016, their number grew more than fourfold to 6.1 million, according to the Sentencing Project, which advocates for loosening restrictions.
“We can see that perception is clearly at work because Democrats are the ones clearly championing” the efforts, said Hannah Walker, assistant professor of political science and criminal justice at Rutgers.
Last month, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order to restore voting rights to about 35,000 people on parole. The Democrat, who is facing a primary challenge from actress and activist Cynthia Nixon said it was wrong to deny voting rights to people who had paid their debt and re-entered society.
“Withholding or delaying voting rights diminishes our democracy,” Mr. Cuomo said at the time.
The move has drawn fire from New York Republicans, including state Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan, who argued the order circumvents the law. On Facebook, Mr. Flanagan said the order “will allow rapists and murderers to be given voting privileges that they don’t deserve and they shouldn’t have.”
In Mississippi, which has some of the tightest felon-voting restrictions in the U.S., the state is facing two separate legal challenges. One, filed by the Southern Poverty Law Center, argues that lifetime voting bans—possible for certain crimes in the state—are unconstitutional and that the process for restoring voting rights is arbitrary and discriminatory.
The second challenge, by the Mississippi Center for Justice, argues that the list of crimes subject to disenfranchisement specified in the state’s 1890 constitution—such as theft, perjury and forgery—target African-Americans. “They enshrined a list of crimes that at the time were believed to be black crimes,” said Robert McDuff, lead attorney in the case.
A spokeswoman for Delbert Hosemann, the Republican secretary of state listed in both lawsuits as a defendant, didn’t respond to requests for comment.
In New Jersey, advocates are pursuing a legislative route to entirely end the system of felon disenfranchisement. The measure has drawn support from scores of civil-rights and faith groups, as well as other organizations, but its prospects remain uncertain, said Scott Novakowski, associate counsel at the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, which is promoting the measure.
Republican state Sen. Gerald Cardinale opposes the measure, saying at the time it was filed that for people who commit felonies, losing voting rights is “part of the risk they assume when they break the law.”
“I’m excited” about the bill, said Mr. Stackhouse, who also is trying to win an early end to his parole. “Let’s fight to stop this nonsense.”

WACO ONGOING INVESTIGATION–FORT WORTH — One of three bikers indicted on murder charges Wednesday stemming from a chaotic 2015 shooting outside a Texas restaurant is accused of killing a man who was also shot twice by police, according to ballistics evidence reviewed by The Associated Press.
The indictments against Glenn Walker and two fellow members of the Bandidos motorcycle club mark the first murder charges filed in connection to the melee that left nine bikers dead, 20 wounded and nearly 200 arrested outside a Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco.
Investigators say the shooting was sparked by rivalries between the Bandidos and Cossacks motorcycle clubs ahead of a biker meeting. Waco police monitoring the gathering said officers opened fire after fights and gunfire broke out in the parking lot.
Walker is accused of fatally shooting Richard Kirschner, a Cossacks member. An autopsy report shows Kirschner was shot three times: once in the buttocks with a pistol and twice with a rifle in the right thigh and left knee.
A pistol registered to Walker and a bullet it fired were recovered from the back of a police vehicle at the scene, according to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Kirschner’s rifle wounds were traced to a Waco SWAT officer’s .223-caliber rifle during a forensic firearms analysis conducted for police, according to police records previously reviewed by the AP.
The officer who used the rifle, Michael Bucher, said during an internal investigation that he saw Kirschner chasing another man with a big chain. Bucher said he fired one round and Kirschner fell, but then fired again after he saw Kirschner get up on one knee and swing the chain. The officer said Kirscher then stayed on the ground.
Kirschner later was pronounced dead at a hospital. The autopsy report said only that Kirschner died of gunshot wounds.
A grand jury in September 2016 cleared the officer, along with the two other officers who fired their weapons. The police evidence reviewed by the AP showed that two people killed during the shooting were hit only by bullets from law enforcement weapons. Two others killed were hit from Waco SWAT rifles and other firearms.

“I KNOW—I’ve got to find some kind of peace of mind.” That’s another quote from an old R&B tune. I grew up listening to Soul Music. I loved that stuff. Maybe I was born a romantic.
I’m going to go to Deadwood in two weeks. Bikers are lucky mofos, who know the true meaning of life. Just own a motorcycle and the open road.
I will run the David Mann illustration shots starting on Instagram tomorrow, or at least one of them. I should also be able to wrap up Son Frank’s Klock, Lindby and Windvest tech tomorrow, hopefully.
I’m going to try to rough out my California Air Resources Board report this coming week. This shit scares me, and I’m going to work with Tony Sanfelipo to help me tell the story just right. It’s so interesting, challenging and threatening, yet most folks just don’t give a shit. Or maybe they admit to our historic fuck-ups and feel like we have it coming. I don’t know, but I can’t give up the fight to ride free.
Let’s see what next week brings.
