A Retaining Ring Tool Tech

6

This tech is really, really simple, but as everything else in life, we just try to make things easier on ourselves and this will solve a big pain in the ass. Yes, I'm talking about the clips that hold the pipe flanges. I'm sure the devil had a pretty good agenda when he decided to put those on the pipes for Evo's, it's just a matter of wasting time, patience and some flowery words, or just doing it in a couple minutes.

We have tried several tools for removing and installing the clips. I sort of wandered the tool aisles looking for something we could use, and I'm saving you guys the pain of hanging out at your local store and watching all the cute chicks buying stuff for their homes.

The best tool is this one from Craftsman, part # 9-4662. It has two wedges that keep the clip on the tool and not flying into the fresh paint job, plus you can open it wide enough to miss scratching the finish on the pipes.

Like I said, I’ll spare every one of the retarded intricate how to, it will just waste our time.

So let's get to it.

Get the tool and put the clip on in the wedge between the prongs. Remember to install the flange first. If you are doing this for a customer watch the fucking pipes they might be hot!

3

Install the clip, release pressure and you are done !

4

To be boring, same deal if you are taking the clips off……but in reverse.

Now put the fucking pipes back on and go make some nasty noise. Another tip; clean those pipes really good before starting the bike, that will avoid premature stains in the finish.

I don't know how many fucking times we wished we had all the right tools for the job. We work on bikes daily and need every possible tool. The options are, chase it down, buy it, or make one. One source for precision motorcycle related tools is JIMS. Check with them for other tool needs.

See how simple is to do a job with the right tool? It will take longer to read this than to actually do it.
