This is a strange one. Paul, the new owner of Aeromach called one day. “What do you guys think of adjustable dogbone risers?”
“Adjustable what,” said Snake during an editorial meeting. He's the only staff member who installed a battery in his motorcycle upside down. He's not mechanical.
“Sure,” Bandit said. “Let's check out a set.”
Paul shipped his first R&D set and we went to work installing a variety of bars in a assortment or locations and a range of positions. Here's what the Aeromach team said about their new product:
March 24, 2010 – Aeromach USA announced today that their new 6” Dog Bone Riser is designed for the Harley-Davidson marketplace and is designed for custom builders, backyard chopper jockeys and available for stock motorcycle upgrades.
Each 6” riser is machined from solid 6061 T6 aircraft- grade aluminum billet on computer-controlled CNC machines. Bottom threads are standard 1/2-inch – 13 and will thread directly into a Springer front end.
The riser body provides 5 inches of adjustability top to bottom and two front to back adjustments. The riser is finished raw and allows the builder to chrome, anodize or polish the unit.
Aeromach's Dog Bone Risers are made in America by true metal craftsmen. All of Aeromach’s products can be seen at www.aeromachmfg.com.
Here's what we discovered. They give any builder tremendous flexibility up and down and a 4-inch front to back adjustment for riders with long or short arms. The more we messed with these puppies the more options we discovered.
We installed drag bars, standard bars, and highbars. We moved 'em up and down. I even tried to find a set of bars that could be wrapped around the risers and different heights.
If a builder runs a set low, then they could cut off the extensions, or mount a speedo on the top portion, or even a Windvest windshield bracket. Hell, the GPS could be mounted between the two extensions on long rides with lower bars. For around town the bars could be jacked and the GPS left home. It's not the most handsome system on the planet, but once a rider finds his sweet adjustment spot, they could be powdered any color.
We discussed with Paul a cap system. The rider could cut off the risers at his perfect length and screw in finishing caps. The alternative list goes on. If you try a set of these risers and do anything different, send us a shot of your bike.
