ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE SUNDAY POST for May 17, 2015

Hey,

It’s another strange day in chopper paradise. We are scrambling to see some girls, hit a few parties and feel some wind in our faces. So let’s get right to the news. It’s all good, I hope.

It’s the Buddha’s Birthday and Dennis Hopper’s. Amazing.

THE BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS NOW OPEN– Lewinsky and Kaczynski:
The Washington Post runs a weekly contest in its Style section called the ‘Style Invitational’. The requirements this week were to use the two words ‘Lewinsky’ (the Intern) and ‘Kaczynski’ (the Unabomber) in the same limerick.

Third place:
There once was a girl named Lewinsky Who played on a flute like Stravinsky ‘Twas ‘Hail to the Chief’ On this flute made of beef That stole the front page from Kaczynski.

Second place:
Said Clinton to young Ms. Lewinsky, We don’t want to leave clues like Kaczynski, Since you made such a mess,
Use the hem of your dress And please wipe that stuff off your chinsky.

And the winning entry:
Lewinsky and Clinton have shown What Kaczynski must surely have known, That an intern is better Than a bomb in a letter, When deciding how best to be blown

RECALL ANNOUNCEMENT– Harley Davidson Recalls Nearly One Million Motorcycle Riders.

MILWAUKEE, Wisconson–Harley Davidson CEO Keith Wandell announced today that the popular American motorcycle manufacturer has issued a nationwide recall of nearly a million riders of its popular motorcycles. Wandell said the recall was issued “due to the alarming increase in the quality of consumer purchasing the Harley Davidson brand.” Wandell promised that all riders recalled from their motorcycles would be provided a line of credit at their local Honda dealers along with DVD copies of the 2004 Ice Cube/Dane Cook film, Torque.

Harley Davidson released a statement explaining the reasons for the recall, which will affect numerous white-collar Harley riders with a focus on those in the medical and legal fields, as well as hundreds of thousands of bankers and financial advisers. The recall will also affect anyone who attempts to ride a Harley Davidson while wearing a helmet, without facial hair, or enjoys regular bathing.

“Harley Davidson deeply regrets any inconvenience unworthy riders may face as a result of this recall, but we feel it is necessary to ensure that real Harley Davidson fans can continue to enjoy the sense of superiority they have felt for more than a century,” the statement read, “And we want to make certain that true Harley enthusiasts will continue to purchase our over-priced and under-performing motorcycles the way they always have: by stealing, dealing drugs, and through the occasional contract murder.”

BRAND NEW BIKERNET READER COMMENT–

The Day of the Long Bikes, Straight outa Berdoo and into AZ

Really enjoyed this article. I remember as a kid in the ‘70s wanting a Denvers chopper so bad I could taste it . Im now 54 yrs old, just bought my first bike in 32 years (‘05 springer classic ). But it’s not a chopper . I want a ‘70s era chopper with a looooooong springer frt end, hot rodded Knuckle motor in it, with the mid sissy bar, 2-up seat, the whole shebang.

I have a ‘36 Indian Chief I’ve been working on for 7 years now, just got the engines back from Cali last year. Ain’t nobody left that can do what I want but Billy Lane, and Sugar Bear. So it looks like that’s where I’m gonna start when the Chopper buildin commences. I have the ‘41 Knuckle motor already, built and good to go . And know what I want …all things in good time I suppose ……….happy trails folks……see ya on the road !

NEWS FROM THE DEVIL–
I had high hopes of showing off some progress photos of the Pat Kennedy front end restoration/molestation project but I got hung up on a little service work yesterday and didn’t get the client his copy first so that will have to wait till next time.

With the completion of the pipes and a couple other goodies I am also nearly ready to get the hot rod Ironhead project out of the fab shop and on to the last round of assembly, so there is a lot going on this week. (Right, what else is new? haha). I took a little time to set up the seat for the streamliner to make sure we made the right choice.

Fortunately it looks like it will work out well, as I hoped the top of the seat lines right up to where the backbone will meet the roll cage.

Once I can get a couple projects out of the way I’ll get started on the front part of the chassis and we will start to have a better idea of how much fiberglass work we will need to do to fit the belly pan (or parts of it) over the framework. At this point I am thinking that it will take quite a bit but that never stopped me before!

CATALINA GRAND PRIX: THE MOVIE
Documentary maker Todd Huffman and crew, who most recently made “Penton: The John Penton Story, are working on a new feature film documenting the 2010 Catalina Grand Prix. There will be footage from the 1950s, but the movie will focus on the battle between race winner Kendall Norman and the late Kurt Caselli. Todd and his company worked along side ‘Cuz’n” Vinnie Mandzak, the promoter in 2010, and got some fantastic footage. Vinnie did an exceptional job on this event and we are elated that it has been recorded for posterity. Expect the premier in December 2015.

HELP FUND THE CATALINA MOVIE
Here’s your chance to help bring the film about the Catalina Grand Prix to the big screen by the end of this year or early 2016. It will feature history of the early Catalina races from 1951-1958 leading up to the race in 2010.

It should be quite a story.

To raise funds they are using Kickstarter.com as they did for the Penton movie. They need to raise $83,000 in the next 51 days.

Please check out the link below for all the great rewards you will get as the film’s “Backer”. Any amount is appreciated, but the more you give the greater the rewards, like DVD’s, posters, T-Shirts and even movie credits and a tour of Tom White’s and Kelly Owen’s incredible museums.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/toddhuffman/the-catalina-grand-prix-the-race-returns just click on the above link and follow instructions. Super easy and only takes a couple of minutes to sign up.

You won’t be charged ANYTHING until and unless they reach their goal to produce “The Catalina Grand Prix: The Race Returns”, film.

They are also looking for corporate sponsors, so if you want your company involved talk to them about benefits.

Please contribute what you can and spread the word to friends, family and other motorcycle people.

BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING LESSON OF THE DAY–
For my friends, both fortunate and unfortunate

This guy brings his best buddy from work home with him, unannounced, for dinner at 6:30pm, after work.

His wife goes ‘ballistic’, screaming her head off at her husband in the kitchen while his friend sits open mouthed and shocked, listening to the tirade from the living room..

“Have you f****** lost your mind?! My f****** hair and makeup are not done, the house is a f****** mess, the dishes aren’t done. Can’t you see I’m still in my f****** pajamas and I can’t and won’t be bothered with cooking tonight! Why the f*** did you bring him home unannounced, you stupid idiot?”

“Because he’s thinking of getting married.”

MARIJUANA AND MARRIAGE–
Washington State and Colorado recently passed two laws. They legalized gay marriage and legalized marijuana. The fact that gay marriage and marijuana were legalized on the same day makes perfect Biblical sense. Leviticus 20:13 says: “If a man lies with another man they should be stoned.” Apparently we just hadn’t interpreted it correctly before!

BB KING PASSES– BB King, whose scorching guitar licks and heartfelt vocals made him the idol of generations of musicians and fans while earning him the nickname ‘King of the Blues’, has died aged 89.

While he had spent the better part of 70 years on the road, playing gigs in pretty much every corner of the world, when he died, the blues guitarist, singer and iconic figure did so at home in Las Vegas.

BB King, left, and an accompanist perform during the opening of the 1980 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

His lawyer, Brent Bryson, said King died peacefully in his sleep. Mostly likely, the latest version of his trademark Gibson guitar, all of which were called Lucille, was not too far away.

Bryson said funeral arrangements were being made.

Although he had continued to perform well into his 80s, the 15-time Grammy winner suffered from diabetes and had been in declining health during the past year.

BB KING LYRICS FOR OUR BOOK PROJECT– Beware, Brother Beware Lyrics

Hey, fellas, yes you fellas, listen to me
I got somethin’ to tell you
And I want you to listen to every word
And govern yourselves accordingly

Now, you see these girls with these fine diamonds
Fine furs and fine clothes
Well, they’re lookin’ for a husband
And you’re listening to a man who knows
They ain’t foolin’, and if you fool around with them
You’re gonna get yourself a schoolin’

Now listen, if she saves you dough
And won’t go to the show, beware
If she’s easy to kiss and won’t resist
Beware, I said beware
If you go for a walk
And she listens while you talk
She’s tryin’ to hook you

Ain’t nobody lookin’ she asks you to taste her cookin’
Don’t do it, don’t do it
And if you go for a show
And she wants to sit back in the back row
Bring her down front, bring her home down front
If you wanna go for a snack
And she wanna sit in a booth in the back
Beware, brother

And listen, if she’s used to caviar and fine silk
And when you go out with her
She want a hot dog and a malted milk
She’s trying to get you brother
If you’re used to goin’ to Carnegie hall

But when you take her out night clubbing
All she wants one meatball
You better take it easy, [Incomprehensible] take it easy
If she grabs your hand and says
“Darling, youre such a nice man”
Beware, Im telling you

Should I tell ’em a little more?
Tell ’em a little more? Alright
You better listen to me cause
Im telling you whats being put down
And you better be [pickin’] up on it

If her sister calls your brother
You better get further
Im telling you, you gotta watch it
You better get on [down]

And if shes acting kind of wild, and says
“Darling, give me a trial”
Dont you do it, dont be weak, dont give it to her
And if she smiles in your face
And just melts into place
Let her melt, forget it, let her melt

Should I tell ’em a little more?
Tell ’em everything? Alright

Now listen, if she calls you on the phone, and says
“Darling, are you all alone? “
Tell her, “No, I’ve got two or three women with me”
Dont pay no attention to women
Stand up for your right, be a man, be a man
Are you listening? Are you listening?

Put on that [lotto] step and listen to me
If you turn out the lights and she dont fight
Thats the end, its too late now
Shes got you hooked, you might as well stick with her

Should I tell ’em a little more?
Give ’em a little more? Alright

If you get home about two
And dont know what to do
You pull back the curtains
And the whole familys looking at you
Get your business straight
Set the date, dont be late, yeah

Brother, beware, beware, beware
Brother, you better beware

The Atomic Punks are a tribute to early Van Halen, the David Lee Roth era. Formed in 1994, the Atomic Punks have performed well over 1500 shows in various locations including: Hollywood. San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Seattle, Denver, Honolulu, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, New York City and most importantly Pasadena where Van Halen started their meteoric rise to stardom. Voted best tribute band by LA’s Rock City News six years in a row, The Atomic Punks have established a national following that continues to grow by leaps and bounds.

In his 1997 autobiography, Crazy from the Heat, Van Halen front man, David Lee Roth, referred to The Atomic Punks as the best tribute to Van Halen ever! Dave cemented his admiration and appreciation for the Punk’s talents by hiring original guitarist Bart Walsh to play guitar in his DLR band tours from 1999 to 2001. Bart’s replacement Brian Young recreated Eddie Van Halen’s sound and furious guitar playing so precisely that Dave again looked to the Punks and took the guitarist out on the road in 2002 for his national tour with fellow frontman Sammy Hagar. Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony has performed with the Punks on three separate occasions and said I feel like I’m back in 1982 performing with the old band. Anthony added The Atomic Punks rock!

THIS IS RIDICULOUS– Harley-Davidson denies warranty claim for man who’s ridden 2.5 million miles…but why?!

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — He’s ridden a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for more than 2.5 million miles — most likely more than anyone else in the world. But now, this Marine Corps veteran is fighting the very company he loves so much.

“If you initiate that wave, you`d be surprised how many people return it,” Dave Zien said.

As he rides his Harley-Davidson across the country, Dave Zien is constantly getting noticed as the flags on his bike flutter in the wind.

“Very, very few people give me the finger and when they do I say ‘God bless you’ or I`ll give them the Harley Hallelujah with both hands high in the air,” Zien said.

Now, the Marine Corps veteran, who has ridden more than 2.5 million miles on a Harley-Davidson is giving the iconic company the “Harley Hallelujah.”

“I mean Harley-Davidson this is ludicrous. The mystique and heritage of Harley-Davidson is suffering,” Zien said.

While he was riding in Dallas in March, Zien’s clutch went out. So he made a claim because his bike is under warranty.

“They tell me ‘because you fly flags, you`re blocked. You`re black ball listed. You could never get any warranty work — which is unlimited mileage for seven years because you`ve been flying flags,’” Zien said.

Zien’s flags are held by mounts attached to his bike. FOX News says Harley-Davidson believes the flags cause drag on the engine and transmission and the mounts that hold the flags aren’t Harley-Davidson products — so they denied his warranty claim.

“For heaven sakes! They were put on by a Harley-Davidson dealer and technicians. So that null and voids that argument,” Zien said.

Even though Zien isn’t getting his warranty honored for this claim and is unhappy with the decision — he’s still a Harley-Davidson man.
“Ain`t nobody — ain`t nobody going to stop our flags. Not even corporate Harley-Davidson. We`re going to continue flying flags,” Zien said.

Zien, who is from Chippewa Falls, says he’s “heart and soul” Harley-Davidson — despite this situation.

The company says his claim was denied because the bike wasn’t designed to deal with the wind resistance that the flags create.
But the warranty is still intact.

SCRAMBLE FOR ACTION—Life is full of twists and turns, and the action is ramping up for this riding season with Ink and Iron, the Smoke Out, Born Free, Sturgis 75th, Laconia, to name a few. It’s nuts but all good.

I’m just a biker who loves freedom, to build something crazy once in a while and enjoy the open road. I’m not much of a crowd kinda guy. I’d just as soon ride past the concert to meet her in the hills. Or ride to see a couple of brothers and miss the crowded rally.

I look at motorcycling as one of the last bastions of freedom. I equate whistling across town, in and out of traffic with a surfer catching a killer wave and making it through the tunnel into the sunlight.

Like Arlen Ness said one day. Some of the best times are spent in the garage figuring out the perfect part or modification.

Watch for news from Scott Jacobs this week, a Barnett Clutch for a new Indian, and a sharp Triumph feature.

Hang on for non-stop action.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
