LITTLE BIG TWIN REPORTS COMING TO BIKERNET TECH AREA IN THE MONTHS AHEAD– I just spent the evening sorting through all the material I have for Little Big Twin–I’ve got more than I originally thought. After organizing most of it I have another three solid articles, not including the one I’ll have to you by the 15th, for a total of four parts almost ready to go.
Part 3: approx 37 pics- (due April 15th) front and rear custom fabricated motor mounts
Part 4: approx 19 pics- grinding down motor mount welds and final prep for polishing, cam chest cover cutting/modification
Part 5: approx 18 pics- dynamic crank balancing and 883cc iron sleeve to 1250cc nickel/silicone/carbon w/no sleeve cylinder comparison
Part 6: approx 20 pics- headwork comparison (used/stock 883 heads before vs polished/ported/larger valves/beehive springs after) and comparison between stock/cast finish/chopped 883cc assembled motor mock-up vs 1250cc modified/polished assembled motor mock-up

To get to the point, there’s no rush on those parts from JIMS and Andrews. I’ve got enough material for a few months, more if you want to seperate the segments in each part I listed above–but I think they’re grouped appropriately and I’d like to get this bike built before I have gray hair.

BIKERNET PHOTOG INTERVIEWED BY TOP TATTOO WEB SITE– We?ve been on the phone for a good half-hour or so, having a perfectly pleasant conversation about his 15 years as one of the top photographers at Tattoo magazine, and now this? He gives me the high-hat over a harmless, standard interview question?
?How old are you?? I ask with my typical childlike sweetness and wonder.
?I?m, uh?.? He stops himself short. What have you got to hide, Cuff? ?I?m 103,? he finally says. ?My age is a closely guarded secret.?
?You can be vague,? I tell him. ?Just say you?re ?something-ish.??
??Something-ish,?? he repeats, and pauses again. ?A hundred and three.?
Whatever, wise guy. I?m only asking because his story makes it seem like he?s lived through (and contributed to) a number of seminal cultural moments, and these life experiences just seem a little incongruous with his lively, almost boyish voice. But, sure?103.
What he tells me is by the time he got around to photography, he already felt like he was late to the game. If he?d started in earnest as a teenager, he could have been going to concerts and shooting bands like Led Zeppelin and Cream, guys like Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn, and maybe he could published a retrospective book by now, making money off portraits of rock gods. He saw others go that route, but while his potential peers were chasing fame as photographers, Cuff, the boy from suburban Maryland, home of Link Wray, took a detour and made a name for himself as a musician instead. He spent two years handling the drum kit for Emmylou Harris?s band, touring and playing on her Pieces of the Sky album. Some time in the late seventies/early eighties, he moved to Los Angeles and ended up playing in The Textones with Carla Olson and Kathy Valentine (the latter of whom would go on to join The Go-Gos), hitting the L.A. club circuit with bands like X and The Blasters. It was there in L.A., though, that he made friends with some kids who were taking photo classes at Santa Monica College, and Cuff, who had once long ago learned how to develop prints from black and white film, felt that old passion start to warm. ?I looked at their work,? he says, ?and thought, ?Damn! I know I could do as well as that! I think I?m a lot more artistic than these people!? And I think it just sort of clicked with me?no pun intended.?

SCOTT JACOBS NEW HARLEY WINE PAINTING OPPORTUNITY– For those of you who have been anxiously awaiting the release of Scott?s next Harley Wine painting here is your opportunity. It has been two years since the last one; Welcome to the Club, was released and all of the Harley Wine editions now are completely sold out from the studio. Most are selling for almost double what they were released at indicating the huge demand for these artworks.
Scott and I just returned this week from the Hogs on the High Seas cruise and in three auctions totaling six hours they sold an impressive seventy one of his limited edition artworks. It was a very fun and successful cruise and we definitely plan on going on the next Hogs cruise.
For those of you who already have one or more of the Harley Wine signed canvases we will try our best to match your numbers (especially if you have a full set) but the key there is contacting me ASAP to discuss availability. You probably know that this series is the most popular and high demand genre of art that Scott has done in his sixteen year career as Harley-Davidson?s official artist. As an added incentive we are offering you a true pre-publication price which reflects a ten per cent discount off the release price. In other words, the cost will NEVER be lower if you order before the deadline of April 30, 2009.

The work, entitled A TIME TO UNWINE, is exceptional in every way; from the striking detail of the Jacobs? designed wine label to the subtle warmth of the lighting emitted from the candle. This is a masterpiece that everyone should have the opportunity to describe so I will allow you to fill in the blanks. Good news: two canvas sizes; Medium (25.75? x 34? framed) special offer price till 4/30?$1210. Large (32.5? x 44? framed) ditto?.$1750. Now for the kicker: you WILL receive a signed and matching numbered bottle of the wine depicted in your piece with the brand new HD label as a gift from the studio! This truly rare and collectible bottle will accompany each giclee ordered, including the smaller one. I look forward to hearing from you. Best Regards, Ron Copple 303-431-4453 or email. (Numbers will be assigned on a first come basis.) Enjoy!!!

Rock Band Hinder Joins Buffalo Chip Bill– BUFFALO CHIP CAMPGROUND, SD — Hard rock band Hinder will play at the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground Thursday, Aug. 6 during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. They join Tesla for a night of hard rock ?n? roll.
In the spirit of what some critics have called ?the politically incorrect Sunset Strip days of Guns N’ Roses, LA Guns, and Faster Pussycat,? Hinder has taken cues from these rock legends and combined them with big hooks, vocal harmonies and modern guitar sounds to create their own brand of hard rock.
The band?s debut album, Extreme Behavior, went triple platinum and their second album, Take it to the Limit, will be released in November. Hinder?s hits include the chart-topping ?Lips of an Angel,? as well as ?Use Me,? ?Better Than Me,? and ?Without You.?
Since 2001, the Oklahoma natives have infused the music scene with tales of their self-described wild ?n? wooly lifestyle, which according to their artist bio include downing J?gerbull shots like water, encouraging audiences to do likewise and partying with Playboy models on the set of their latest video.
The band, made of up lead vocalist Austin Winkler, guitarists Joe ?Blower? Garvey and Mark King, bassist Mike Rodden and drummer Cody Hanson, never played outside of Oklahoma before signing with Universal Records, but is now used to life on the road.
?Hinder is a great addition to the music line-up at the Legendary Buffalo Chip,? said Rod Woodruff, campground owner. ?Hinder embodies the free-spirited, fun-loving hard rock vibe of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and we?re excited to welcome the band to our stage.?
Other confirmed performers for the Buffalo Chips concert series include: Aerosmith, George Thorogood & the Destroyers, Toby Keith, Lita Ford, Billy Squier and counter-culture comics Cheech & Chong. Information and reservations are available at: www.BuffaloChip.com

MORE MAGAZINES FOR SALE– NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. is looking to sell a group of its enthusiast magazines including Popular Photography, American Photo, Boating, Cycle World, Flying and Sound & Vision.
It was not clear whether the titles being shopped around were available individually or only as a group. It was not clear whether the titles being shopped around were available individually or only as a group.
Hachette has been feverishly scrubbing its budget under CEO Alain Lemarchand since he arrived last fall, even dropping out The media investment bank DeSilva & Phillips has been shopping the titles for several weeks, industry insiders said. Word of the sale effort appeared today in the Delaney Report, a trade newsletter. A Hachette spokeswoman and a DeSilva executive declined to comment, but others confirmed the offering. It was not clear whether the titles were available individually or only as a group. Hachette also publishes Elle, Car and Driver, Road & Track and Woman’s Day magazines. The recession has made 2009 a terror for most media owners, but it hasn’t completely stopped asset sales. Management at Garden & Gun magazine recently bought a majority interest in the title from its founding owner, Evening Post Publishing, which had decided to stop funding the title. And last week Sandow Media said it bought Western Interiors & Design magazine. Ad pages from January through the April issues fell 48.7% at Boating, 18% at Cycle World, 19.3% at Flying, 15.3% at Popular Photography and 27.8% at Sound & Vision, according to Media Industry Newsletter.

HINES TAKES SCREAMIN? EAGLE? V-ROD TO HOUSTON SEMI-FINALS– Hines Sets Track Record to Lead Qualifying; Krawiec Advances to Second Round.
HOUSTON, Texas (March 29, 2009) ? Screamin? Eagle?/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines rode a Harley-Davidson V-Rod? to the No. 1 qualifying position and advanced to the semi-final round in Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations at the O?Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec, the defending NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, qualified sixth and advanced to the second round of eliminations.
Taking advantage of the 54-degree temperature and low humidity, Hines claimed the 23rd top qualifying spot of his career with a 6.889-second pass in the first round on Saturday, at the time a new Pro Stock Motorcycle track record and the sixth-fastest ET in Pro Stock Motorcycle history. Krawiec qualified sixth with a 6.983-second run.
?We took advantage of optimal conditions in the first session,? said Hines. ?To run this strong in just our second race with the new Screamin’ Eagle V-Rods is great. We had the set-up just right. That was an impressive run.?
Hines opened Sunday eliminations with a 6.946 run to score a win over Suzuki rider LE Tonglet (7.204), and used a 6.934 run to defeat the Steve Johnson WyoTech Suzuki (7.011) in the second round.
A red-light start by Rum Bum Racing Buell rider Shawn Gann gave Krawiec a win in the first round. In the second round, Krawiec rode his Screamin? Eagle V-Rod to a personal-best ET of 6.932 seconds, but that was not enough to defeat the NitroFish Suzuki of Matt Smith, who made a 6.865-second run to set a new national Pro Stock Motorcycle ET record.
?Smith had a great pass,? said Krawiec. ?We had just installed a new engine for the second round, and I made the best pass of my career at an NHRA event. It?s clear the new V-Rod has a lot of potential and we?ll just keep dialing it in.? Making his second consecutive semi-final round appearance of the season, Hines left the line 0.013-second early to give a win to Douglas Horne. Horne lost to Team Scream Suzuki rider Craig Treble in the final round.
?I chunked the rear tire in the second round, and the new tire affected our set-up for the semi-final round,? said Hines. ?To compensate, I focused a little too much on the tree and got the red light. This one?s on me.?
After two events on the 17-race 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock Motorcycle schedule, Smith leads the standings with 174 points. Hector Arana is second with 172 points, followed by Hines in third with 152 points. Treble is fourth with 151 points, followed by Horne with 125 and Krawiec in sixth with 107.
The next event on the 2009 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle schedule is the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals, April 16-19, in Atlanta.

THE BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER IN CONJUNCTION WITH DR. WEIL APPROVES SNACKS– Snacking during the day can be a healthy habit, as it can help to keep blood sugar and energy levels steady. However, what you choose for mid-day edibles is important – use the four suggestions below for some healthy snack ideas.
Berries. They are sweet, easy to pop into your mouth, and a much healthier choice than a candy bar. Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and blackberries are all anti-inflammatory, rich in flavonoids and carotenoids, and offer immune-boosting antioxidant activity.
Crudit?s. The fiber in veggies will help fill you up, and they provide a nice, satisfying crunch. Choose a wide range of colors (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots are good choices) and serve with low- or non-fat plain yogurt – add some fresh herbs and seasonings for flavor.
Nuts. When eaten sparingly, nuts are a terrific snack. Walnuts are one of my favorites, as they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Almonds and roasted soy nuts are also good choices. Nuts can be high in calories and fat (even if it’s the healthy monounsaturated kind) so don?t overindulge.
Dark chocolate. An ounce of dark chocolate now and then will satisfy a sweet tooth while providing antioxidant polyphenols. Choose high quality dark chocolate with at least 70 percent pure cocoa, and enjoy the rich flavor.

CELEBRATE EASTER, GODDAMNIT–Just don’t eat egg yokes or too many sweets. Watch, they’ll regulate how many eggs you can eat. I can’t wait for the reaction to the drug wars in Mexico. They’re blaming it on our gun industry and drug use stateside. Watch, they’ll try to pass more restrictive gun laws, rather than fix the borders. Then they’ll pass mandatory drug testing for everyone.
Can we just party, build cool bikes and ride. I truly believe choppers and custom motorcycles will represent the last bastion of freedom in this country.
Ride Forever,
